Monday service. Not exactly the busiest time ever for the Athena Greek-Japanese restaurant but to call it 'empty' would be dead wrong. The exclusivity and novelty of dining at the famed Otsuno-san's restaurant kept the customers coming in all week, especially on a Saturday and Sunday, even if that was starting to dwindle a little. A usual occurrence between seasons of the show, Otsuno had seen such before. It would pick up again once the show resumed, as it always did; as much as she wished the food was enough to bring them back it was often simply the idea of dining in a celebrity's restaurant that gave them their kicks.
Certain complexities of a dish were lost on people who did not regularly eat fine dining, however she understood this perfectly. She'd been there before, when she was younger, cooking for family and friends rather than paying customers. Most people wanted something warm, satisfying and filling, rather than something with complex flavours and expensive ingredients. Luckily both Greek and Japanese food covered both. Greek food was exotic enough that even a simple dish to most of the Japanese populace would be a different taste than they'd ever really experienced before; whereas Japanese food prepared to the utmost perfection was exactly what foreigners wanted from a Japanese cook.
Sometimes it felt like a dichotomy of character.
With it's bright atmosphere and Mediterranean feel, the Athena restaurant was built in part to emulate the one she had worked at in Athens. Three floors, the higher one went the more 'VIP' the place was, with the top floor and roof both acting as functionary halls for parties and expensive group bookings. The kitchen spanned all three floors, being the largest on the bottom floor with a double wing formation and getting smaller as it went up the floors, all connected by a system of elevators and easy-access stairways, all of which was open and easy to see by the diners. Her cooks would have nowhere to hide from their scrutiny, just the way she wanted it.
The bottom floor dining area was wide and square in design, with upwards of forty tables seating over one hundred guests at a time; white walls and soft wood grain floors hearkened back to the Greek villas of her youth, giving the place an exotic feel, even during an evening service like this. Easily accessible by a grand central staircase, the second floor is at least partially visible from the first, acting as a series of overhanging balconies that all look down over the kitchen. The third floor is not visible from either floor and features a color scheme of black and red like Otsuno's famed apron and shirt combo. This is where the show Satan's Kitchen was filmed, acting as a fine dining section for guests.
Bustling with activity, the kitchen charged on even though the restaurant was barely half full. More guests could arrive at any moment, so preparation was key. With an empty third floor, Otsuno directed her troops to focus on getting meals turned around as hastily as possible for the other two floors. With years of hard work she'd whipped her workforce into a near-perfect machine, turning out dishes that she could be proud of in short order. Some concessions had to be made to account for time, such as preparing certain aspects of dishes before opening; however it was best to be over-prepared than under.
The only trouble Otsuno was having today where people getting up and leaving before she could deliver the food. This had happened before, hell it'd been a plotpoint many, many times on Satan's Kitchen when amateur chefs took too long for dinner service but... this was different. They were waiting maybe fifteen to twenty minutes and then leaving in a frantic hurry. She'd heard there was some villain attack elsewhere in Tokyo right now but those happened all the damn time these days. You wouldn't hurry home if there was a small fire in the next district over, so why was this one different?
There had been a lot of cancelled reservations today too. What was going on? One chef timidly tried to turn on the news and Otsuno almost let him. However, at that last second she gave a short growl, which was enough to make him drop the remote and go back to his job preparing the tzatziki sauce. A lot of them looked nervous and jittery, moreso than usual. Contrary to popular belief, Otsuno did care about her workers, hell they'd worked their asses off if she was allowing them onto her regular staff. Not just anyone could work here and nerves were generally the first thing to go during training. If these guys were scared, something was wrong. Something was very, very wrong.
And just then... she heard a crash!

[attr=class,zpunkisavelighttext]
Survival instinct, that's what determined the difference between those who would survive this wretched day full of horror....
[break][break]
Those who evacuated, they took all the warnings flittering about on social media and the digital word of mouth, they knew what was up! Some of them acted on their impulses a bit too late as these panicked souls pushed past them, crying for help and screaming...others couldn't even find their voice. What shocked them most is that the undead surrounding the infamous Athena restaurant weren't out for flesh and blood. No...they were after...the building itself?! This place was a well known restaurant that knew how to make damn good food and pump out some serious entertainment!
[break][break]
Too bad it went on hiatus...
[break][break]
...maybe the cliff hanger really pissed these guys off?
[break][break]
A big ol' rock was chucked right through the door by a hulking, large zombie that pushed its way through the frame. Maybe people would believe this story due to the mass amounts of insanity being dumped on Tokyo, but even what stood where normal people would wait to be seated looked like if some beefy as hell wrestler wanted to have a chef gimmick! Oh yes, he even had the hat, jacket and checkered pants to boot! Plus he looked pissed, "YOU NO CANCEL MY RESERVATIIIIIIOOOOOOON!" Those words were announced in such a furious tone that even the spooky Karens would want to run in fear!
[break][break]
Punting the hostess stand, he ripped the rest of it up and chucked it across the room to cause more damage to the place!
[break][break]
YEAH, THAT'LL SHOW THOSE CHAIRS HE COULD NEVER SIT AT!
[break][break]
Some other zombies flooded on in and goodness, they were all dressed up...like someone seriously took the time to make all of them look nice. Who would even do that? Well, that was a question left to the resounding mystery of all these dolled up zombies looking like they were either high end, well to do guests OR wanting to work in the back! Speaking of the ones that look like they were dressed up, ready to get cooking in the kitchen....most of those reanimated pests hobbled on over toward the back. Oh yes, they were gonna force this place to get renovated and take over the damn joint!

She turned just in time to see the rock fly into the dining area from the reception, knocking aside tables and chairs. People were screaming, running wildly to the back of the restaurant just as the reservation lecturn got sent following them, spiraling through the air like a strangely shaped football. Behind that... a giant hulking lump of flesh. She couldn't not in good conscious call that thing a man, it was more of a pile of muscle loosely stacked into the shape of a human. It's pallid complexion, the missing chunks in it's body, it's manner of speaking. A zombie? Just like the horror shows? More poured in behind it as it screamed bloody murder. The chef was frozen watching the scene, her own staff halting their dishes and peering out as well. What were they supposed to do? These things didn't look like they were willing to accept surrender yet nor did they look like they were explicitly coming for them. They wanted the building... and from the fact they'd just thrown a huge stone through the glass entryway showed they weren't exactly playing for keeps here. As those lumbering monsters lurched towards the door and the small wall that separated the kitchen and the dining area... Time stopped. Where were the Heroes? The police? Anyone? Where were they!? What was going on!? Her gaze snapped between her staff, the guests, the lumbering brute, the horde of dressed up denizens of the deep. What was she supposed to do? This place was her livelihood, it was everything. And the guests she'd served were special to her, people she'd given everything to, her sweat, tears and... blood. Her eyes darkened. Her breathing slowed. She knew what she had to do but she didn't know if she had the strength to do it. Her foot moved almost on it's own, that first step feeling like it echoed around the entire restaurant, even if the commotion technically drowned it out. Of course she had the strength to do it. She was Otsuno-san. The greatest chef in the fucking world. How dare they interrupt her service. How dare they threaten her guests, ruin her food, destroy her restaurant? This place was everything she had. And even if she perished here protecting it, she had a responsibility to do so. Her voice was low and quiet, but audible to the chefs behind her. "Go out the back way, grab as many guests as you can and flee."There was a beat of silence, then one chef spoke up but she cut him off. "GO!" Another beat of silence... but diligently he turned, as did the others. If these were to be the final days of Otsuno Akuma, they would be in a blaze of glory the likes of which no one would be able to match for aeons. She moved towards the door of the kitchen, her body shaking but her mind resolute, as if she could walk into a wall and it would be the wall that'd give way first. A firm boot opened the door, revealing her silhouette backlit by the light of the kitchen. "Kitchen's closed."She swung her wrist out to the side, a sharp, long knife forming from her palm. These things weren't living. She'd have no compunctions about cutting them to ribbons. A firm gauntlet-like shell formed around her second arm, a shield to her sword. She had no idea if the horror stories were right but if these things bit her she was probably french bread toast. Let's face it she was probably dead anyway but the more time she bought the longer her chefs and the guests had to escape. Her heart hammered in her chest as she moved forward, first at a jog, then a sprint, swinging her knife with a precision only someone trained for years could attain, attempting to separate the first one's head from it's shoulders. At the same time, she swung her protected arm out into the face of another, trying to stop it from biting her and also knock it back at the same time. It was impossible to tell how many there were, but she had ways of dealing with them if they tried to overwhelm her. If those were successful, she'd twist her body around to launch a roundhouse kick into the next one in line, forming a shell of porcelain around her leg as she did so. She wasn't an experienced fighter. Hell, most of this was instinct but it's not like these zombies were kung fu masters themselves. They seemed slow and the garments they were wearing certainly weren't suited for combat. Usually clothes were ripped and rotten and torn in zombie movies but these were clean and precise, almost freshly pressed. That, combined with the zombies she could see moving up the staircase towards the upper levels told her whoever was directing this attack knew the layout of her restaurant. Then again that wasn't exactly difficult, it had been on TV for six full years.

[attr=class, izpunkisavelightbottomslant] [attr=class, izpunkisavelightseparator] focus on me, do as you're told!
[attr=class,izpunkisavelighttext]
Sometimes all anyone can do is fight for their right to stay alive, the woman who had a firm grasp of fame, even after six years...this was her time to show the world that she wasn't just some famed face. No, she was more than that, so much more and right here, right now, she was taking those first steps to show it through her actions. The workers who were verbally reprimanded for perfection had eyes filled with fear as the undead who shared their uniform made their way in. All shaken to the core to some extent or another, even in a world where quirks exist...this was insane, crazy, even!
[break][break]
Especially to the chef that was going to speak up, one who knew that Otsuno-san was all about quality because she only wanted the best for her guests. Demanding their full potential since she had a strange way of believing in all of them and their capabilities. Words were caught within the chef's throat and tears began to well up at the rim of his eyes, clenching those teeth to stop the chattering of those rattling nerves. GO! This man had instructions...save as many people as possible...shit...okay. Despite all the fear, he wanted to stay and help her...but Otsuno-san was right, people were in danger and needed to be evacuated immediately.
[break][break]
With a stern nod, tears rolled down his cheeks and you know what? He figured since Otsuno-san was trying to be discrete, he had to be as well, there was always a damn good reason behind what she did or would say, even when it wasn't obvious! One thing was certain, he and the others shouldn't run like a headless chickens while screaming at the top of their lungs. There were two more floors to evacuate and fuck, he had to be damn quick before some asshole took out the stairs for them too! That or try to hole up somewhere...but it could be a death trap if they didn't barricade things properly.
[break][break]
...that's why Otsuno-san told him to flee...isn't it?
[break][break]
Okay, next thing of reasonable concern, how bad was it outside?
[break][break]
...goddamn it...who knew!
What he did know is the back way was clear, Otsuno-san suggested it so that's the plan!
[break][break]
If it wasn't for Otsuno-san, many of them would be dead right now, she was bravely fending off a few of the more violent zombies...but they seemed mostly fixated on her? It's....almost like they had motive or something...shit...! She had this for now, he quickly rallied up his fellow workers first who were definitely freaking the hell out right now, guiding them to the back, practically pushing some of them, one getting a swift slap on the back, "C'mon! Otsuno-san is covering our asses! Hurry up!" Hissing out those words, he stopped those tears born of fear and doubled back to grab a cutting board, a nice thick wooden one.
[break][break]
While Otsuno was slicing and dicing away at those zombies, she got em' she was definitely mowing them down for now! The chef's gaze fell upon one that was trying to tip toe behind the ol' star of Satan's Kitchen...OH HELL NO! He rushed over in a leap and SLAMMED it down upon the undead bastard's head like a slam dunk and swung it on the side with determination! That particular zombie stumbled into a nearby stove and flumped over while fidgeting and twitching. With a heavily huffed out sigh, he left the area to carry out the orders that his brain jotted down like a proper ticket: Survivors to go!
[break][break]
Meanwhile...a pale woman who looked as though she won the who's a spooky babe contest strolled on in with a disappointed frown, "BWUH! Biggie Boy! I expected more than this! I thought you were super mad at her just like me! SHE DENIED YOUR RESERVATION BEFORE YOU DIED! SHE PUSHED IT BACK, IF SHE DIDN'T DO THAT TO YOU, GUESS WHAT?! YOU'D HAVE A CHANCE TO DINE HERE YOU DOOF! OTSUNO AKUMA! GET HER! GO! KICK HER ASS AND BRING ME HER HEAD!" Bringing up her phone after snapping out those words, she mumbled and grumbled as she typed in a review for this place on Gulp from her aPhone with a twisted grin as she narrated "Oh em gee WORST PLACE EVER EXPLANATION POINT EXPLANATION POINT EXPLANATION POINT I ALMOST DIED HERE, NOT WORTH IT, LOTS OF EXPLANATION POINTS!" Snickering a bit as she swapped accounts and continued her shitty review spree. Little spherical specters slowly emerged from her body as they giggled about because you know what they were going to do?
[break][break]
These little guys were going to have fun!
[break][break]
The muscular zombie grunted as he recalled how if his reservation wasn't bumped back...he'd have had the chance to dine here at Athena. His mistress was right...where was that bitch?! Looking around as he smacked tables out of the way with a snarl, he was on a mission and caught a glimpse of the chef running out from the back... "OTSUNO...AKUMA...THERE..." Oh yes, he grabbed a chair, chucking one at the kitchen door and the sheer force caused it to break the damn thing off its hinge. The demented woman who was in charge of this whole invasion fiasco cackled loudly because she wanted the potty mouth culinary queen to hear her glee, everything she worked hard for was getting ruined! Serves her right!
[break][break]
The innocent customers who remained, some sustained bad injuries from not moving out of the way, confused that the undead were more concerned with ruining their food and throwing it around rather than trying to take their lives. So you know what they did when they saw the chef trying to wave them over, they fucking took the opportunity to get there. There were those just concerned about themselves and others who were families trying to help one another to the directed exit. A good handful were panicking and deeeeefinitely not taking the calm route, "OH GOD WE'RE GOING TO DIE!" To which the one who called herself Mistress Izanami chimed out with frustrated glee, "You might~! Kekekekeheheheheh I'd actually like you better that way, muuuuuch better, you annoying sack of flesh!" Wow, the last chunk of her words were practically dripping with bitter venom, though. They were damn lucky she had beef with Otsuno...maybe she'll murder someone to mess with that mouthy, stuck up chef...who knows, it was definitely something she'd consider~
