July 4th, 2074. 9:00 PM.
She was finally alone with her. There was other times she was alone with her, but either her brother came in or someone interrupted them. This was first real time they were alone since their first time on the beach together. The smell of the ocean air mixed in with the aroma of the campfire from afar set the mood. The group was around the campfire, Niji's song carrying on the wind to the two that walked alone. Her mother had given them an out to spend some time alone. They weren't going to share a tent alone, which was fair. But for this moment, she had her to herself.
The stars in the sky danced as the two walked along the beach shore. Silence fell among the two, nothing but smiles and blushes from the two. "Well, after some time, we are finally alone," Mizuki said quietly. She though back to the first kiss their shared at the birthday party... before being interrupted by her mom and dad, who took tons of pictures of the moment. She understood though. She was their little girl growing up to be her own person. And she really like Yang.
"I wanted to talk to you alone," she said holding her hand. "You remember our first time here on the beach? I was... confused and I didn't know what to really say. But I want to say it now."

Yang
Yang enjoyed the camp out but now it seemed like her and Mizuki had drifted away from the crowd. They had begun to walk along the shoreline. The excitement was in the background but they could still hear it. It was peaceful. Yang never thought she would have a moment of peace.
She was humming a lullaby before she realized Mizuki had spoken. She flushed and looked at Mizuki. Mizuki wanted to speak to her about something. But before that she had mentioned the first time they came here. It was the first time they meditated and it went south but it didn't ruin their day. She had a great time with Mizuki.
Of course things have been a bit awkward between the two lately. It was expected since Yang had taken the initiative to invite Mizuki home. Yang didn't really think of what that could mean for Mizuki. She felt like this would be the best way for Mizuki to get to know Yang. It was also something that Red wanted as well.
Now that Yang thought about it. Since the riot, Yang realized she felt something for Mizuki. Maybe that something was love? She wasn't completely sure since she has never felt like this with anyone not in the romantic sense anyways. But watching Mizuki almost get hurt in the riot was Yang's reality check. Even though Red was in control, she lost control that day because she watched someone she cared for deeply in the way of danger. The last time she lost control was when she lost her sister. She loved her sister. Did this mean she loved Mizuki? She wasn't sure but she wanted to discuss with Mizuki somethings as well.
"Actually you aren't the only one. I wanted to talk to you as well" Yang spoke softly.

Mizuki was surprised, to say the least. Yang never started the conversation when the two of them talk. Usually, it was just them staring awkwardly at each other until someone said something. They had been a lot closer during the riots, and they had to work somewhat on communicating more. But when it came to how they felt about each other or the subject of going home with Yang... It was either an interruption or something awkward happening.
Not only that, but the kiss from the birthday party was also still on her mind. What possessed her to do that? Was it the feeling of just going ahead and doing it? Was it the joy of having Yang near her? Or was it the fear that Yang didn't like her? Even after all the meditation with Jessie-sensei, this was the only part she was scared and confused about.
"Okay," said Mizuki with a small smile and a blush. "You go first." Mizuki didn't want to put her out there and it gets shattered to a million pieces. She just couldn't deal with fi Yang didn't want to be with her. She wanted to take the leap. But what if Yang said she didn't want this? She did want to be with her, right? Mizuki's heart knew she wanted to be with Yang. Was this love?

Yang
Yang stopped in her tracks. She wasn’t expecting Mizuki to tell her to go first. “I…I…I” she stuttered. It was almost as she if she forgot how to speak. Red sighed watching this in the mental realm. This was a train wreck that should been easily predicted.
Yang looked at Mizuki and cleared her throat. “During the riot...” she began. “Red was in control but she informed me of everything that happened. That’s when we realized we had something in common…” she blushed as she quickly looked away from Mizuki. She knew she probably peaked Mizuki’s interest at this point.
“You. You are what we have in common” she finally stated. “Red told me how you got hurt and how it made her felt. Which made us both wonder what we felt about you…” this blush was definitely not going away anytime soon. At this point all Yang could hear was her heart thumping against her chest and could barely hear what she was saying. But all she could do is trust that the words she was speaking was the words that were on her mind.
“We both realized that there is definitely something there about you. A feeling that neither of us could really explain. All I know is that when Red saw you get hurt in the riots, she reacted in a way that she said she hadn’t in a very long time. She said she lost control of her quirk that day and the last time she did that was when we lost our sister…” she spoke softly. “We loved our sister dearly…” she said after a moment of silence. Obviously Yang was attempting to explain to Mizuki that she might be in love with her and that she would never want to lose her like she did with her baby sister. That hurt. Yang didn’t want to be hurt anymore in that manner anymore. She didn’t want to lose anymore loved ones.
But of course she was laying it all out on the table quite literally for Mizuki. All she could do was hope that Mizuki had the same feelings for her and they would figure out what to do next. This was probably the most Mizuki ever heard Yang spoke in one given moment. Almost of all of their conversations were awkward as hell or interrupted. Yang was grateful that she had some alone time with Mizuki.

Mizuki listened patiently to Yang's response. She understood where she was coming from. The riots put a toll on everyone. The fear of death was something Mizuki never really considered. Until it almost happened. But she never realized how much of a toll it would put on Yang on herself. Especially with some of the situations she had already been through. She had talked a little about her sister, but not much more than small tidbits here and there. She couldn't imagine what Yang had gone through or felt. In a way, Mizuki felt like she was at fault for making Yang feel that way. And she never wanted her to feel like that ever again. Mizuki couldn't imagine what would happen if she never got the chance to be with Yang.
"I am sorry for making you worry," Mizuki said, holding Yang's hand. "I thought if I put myself in harm's way, you would be okay. That you would be safe. I couldn't bear the thought of someone I cared for losing their life." Mizuki blushed a lot. "But at the same time, while I was in the infirmary, I watched as you slept next to my bed. I wondered what it would have been like if I never got to tell you how much I liked you. Or if I couldn't spend another day with you." Mizuki blushed a little harder, thinking back to her birthday party. "Or kiss you again."
Mizuki looked at Yang. "I want to go with you wherever you go. I want to be the one that comforts you when there is trouble in your life. I don't want to just protect you. I want to stand next to you." Mizuki smiled a little, remembering her session with her sensei. "You are the center of my storm. When there is so much chaos around me, I just think of you. I know I can't replace what you truly have lost. But I can try to stand with you in the storm. And face it with. Because I don't like you." Mizuki smiled. "I love you."

Yang Yang looked at Mizuki as she spoke. Red sighed mentally figuring that was the reason why Mizuki had went to such lengths. Mizuki could have died that day, it was very reckless of her to exasperate her injuries for Red to take advantage of. Even though it wasn’t Red who woke up in the infirmary but Yang instead. That was a great way for her to wake up in a hospital bed not able to remember the last few hours of what happened thanks to Red.
It sucked being in the infirmary, she got lectured for using blood so recklessly and had to submit to endless amount of testing and pills to ensure she didn’t inherit any disease associated with blood. But when she finally was able to or allowed to, she found Mizuki and saw how bad in shape she was in. Yang had cursed mentally at Red because she didn’t have the full story at the time. Red had gone silent. It was almost surreal.
Yang sighed. “Mizuki, I’ve already watched people I loved die in front of me. I don’t want to lose anyone else” she spoke softly. Mizuki had blushed as she spoke about the past things that had happened between them. Yang was barely over her own blush but turned beat red in an instant as Mizuki mentioned the kiss. It was so sudden, Yang wasn’t sure how to respond in the past. She still isn’t completely sure how to respond now in the present.
Of course she did now. She knew how she felt about Mizuki even though her past was damning and her future was definitely uncertain. Before Yang realized it Mizuki said something that made Yang’s whole world stop. Mizuki stated that she loved Yang. Yang didn’t immediately respond. She wasn’t sure how to respond. The L word that most couples would avoid unless they absolutely meant it. So does that mean Mizuki actually loved her and would accept her no matter what?
Yang wasn’t sure but all she could do was hope that her past wouldn’t change how Mizuki felt about her. “I think….”she started to say but paused. “I think I love you too…” she finally said it. At this point she could almost die from embarrassment. But at least she could die knowing that she was loved for the time being. Red was excited she guessed? It was hard to tell what she actually felt in this moment. It was nice that Mizuki loved her...them? She actually wasn't sure how Mizuki felt about the two personalities. But all she could do is see where this relationship could become.

If time could freeze on a single moment, this would be the moment that Mizuki chose. To be alone on the beach with Yang under the moonlight. She would never think that someone would like her for her. She always had the feeling of people judging her, looking for what she could do instead of what she was. But Yang saw that. In the past few months, Yang saw the true her. That's part of why she said that she loved her. Yang was the center of her storm, the calming peace that came after the troubles. She was the pillar that held her up. And that made Mizuki wanted to be a pillar for her. Holding each other up, weathering the storm.
She winced a bit about how Yang had already lost people. She never thought about how Yang would felt if Mizuki would have died that night. The only thing she could think about was making sure that Yang was safe from danger. To keep her alive. But in a relationship, Mizuki had to learn how the other person felt was just important. And for a moment, she felt bad.
That changed when Yang said the words back to her. "I think I love you too." It wasn't a confirmation of love, but to Mizuki that was enough. Tears swelled in her eyes as she quickly wrapped her arms around Yang's waist, picking her slightly off the ground. She was crying from joy as she held her tight, burying her face in her chest. She felt accepted. "That's all I want to hear," Mizuki responded holding her tight with a smile.
