Case #001: The disappearing trick
20 February 2070
In the first weeks of January, news channels reported a dangerous hacking within a Japanese security company that was responsible for the protection of several corporations their security system. Initial reports stated that the culprit had gained access from the outside, obtaining the sensitive information from the corporations their databases and then tried to sell them off. Initial investigations led to a wild goose chase, at least till the unexpected involvement of a Public Prosecutor who voiced her interest in the case changed everything. Believing the culprit intended to sell the data in some way or form, she had people scouring the internet for any potential clues, and finally found it when a hacker on a questionable underground site was offering to sell a database of usernames and passwords that the hacker had acquired from a famous multiplayer video game, one which was published by one of the hacked corporations.
Fortunately, it seemed the prosecutor was right on the money with her guess, and when acting like an interested buyer, the trap was spun. The hacker offered to exchange the data once a payment was made to an account, but unfortunately for the hacker, it didn't take much effort to discover the trace leading back to their identity, for the bank account was signed under a real identity: Fujimori Haru.
In the early days of February Fujimori Haru, a seventeen years old teenager living in Tokyo was arrested, and confessed to his crimes, and yet the prosecutor was displeased. She didn't believe that this was the entire story, mostly because a background check showed Haru knew almost nothing about coding, let stand how to use a computer for hacking: He must had an accomplice. Taking the opportunity to question the teenager, a cruel mind-game was enacted upon him where the prosecutor told Haru that he was ratted out, a classic tactic sometimes used when interrogating gang members or people who acted in group. If her bet had been wrong he would had likely just been confused, but instead he had become vengeful and called out his accomplice, a person who made the entire case make much more sense.
Fujimori Hayate, the elder brother of Haru and a software engineer at the security company that had suffered from the hacking attempt. It made all the more sense now: This had not been a hacking attempt, it had been a leak of info by one of the company's employees. Of course, now she had seen the whole picture and gotten the evidence she desired, it was time to set the pieces in motion.
On 20 February 2070, an eighteen years old prosecutor who had just passed the bar exam made the local news by getting a confession out of the Fujimori brothers. The younger one was sentenced to be followed up by child counsel center, while his brother was sentenced to three years of imprisonment under accusation of Hacking. Little did people know that for Hifumi Inukai her first solved case as a Public Prosecutor would only be the start of her future as the 'Demon Prosecutor'
