IF YOU'VE GOT MINE TERUKO'S ARMS WERE TREMBLING FROM the adrenaline of the fight, her breaths short. The walk was mostly silent—there wasn’t much to say, when your companion was a panther. The streets were thankfully quiet, their retreat unhindered.
Teruko reached the entrance of her apartment building—which was wedged neatly between her business and Enda’s storefront. She keyed-in the code, and the lock buzzed, the mechanism of the door undoing itself. Teruko opened the door and stepped-in, holding the door open for Akiva. The walk to the lift was equally quiet, as was the ride upstairs via elevator.
When the elevator reached the top floor, the third floor up, it dinged and slid open onto a seating area—two sectional couches faced a coffee table like brackets. There was also a table with four chairs, and a few snack machines.
Teruko padded past the seating-area towards a large doorway, gesturing for Akiva to follow. She fished into her pocket, procuring her keys. After some fussing with her keys, the door was opened, and Teruko padded in.
“Welcome to my place,” Teruko said to the panther, “Please, come in.”
She’d hold the door open for him, allowing him to pass, before closing it behind him. Teruko went for the lights, first—casting the apartment into a golden light.
The brick façade of the building actually comprised a majority of the walls, too, stretching into high, vaulted ceilings with exposed beams. The layout of the penthouse was glamorously open, spread into distinct sections. Kitchen… dining… living, and a balcony facing away from the street, all to the left… to the right, bedrooms, a bathroom, and a washer-and-dryer, all hidden behind closed doors.
“Make yourself comfortable,” she urged Akiva, smiling faintly, “I’m gonna get some supplies from the bathroom.”
And with that, the woman dismissed herself, sidling down the narrow hall.
Her mind was still racing, despite the polite exterior she kept-up. Why were Akiva and Enda fighting? Why was Enda trying to put a gold leash on him? What was their history?
Teruko opened the cabinet beneath her sink, gathering an old towel, some antiseptic, and a basket of first-aid supplies. It was an allergy, right? So maybe some hydrocortisone, too. Teruko grabbed a bottle of that and dropped it into the basket.
Having gathered her supplies, she padded back into the main living space, her golden eyes sweeping the room for the inky-black silhouette of Akiva’s jaguar form.

[attr="class","grHeaderB"] [attr="class","grBody"]What was there to say during the walk? Should he explain that it was him and not Enda who pushed him? It had been his own stupid mind and this stupid power that he had no control of, ever since that moment at the Storm Knights it seemed to go crazier and he seemed to have lost control over his body and most of all his own thoughts. Was it some sort of rehabilitation that showed up? He was no longer killing, he was trying to think more positive and do things right and it seemed to be going all fine but he lost it. He really lost so much in his mind already that he had no idea what to do with it. He felt like everything was his fault and not Enda, but his ex-boyfriend had to pay for it. It also seemed that Teruko already knew him, so that was only getting worse. What should he do? But he said nothing, he followed her through the silent streets and nothing seemed to have stopped him until they arrived. He had to stop and wait, he did not know how to go back, he didn't even know yet if he could talk or not. It felt like he was tinkering in his mind, trying to form a human way of speech and thinking and not the barbaric panther instinct that had taken over.[break][break] He was glad it was an elevator and not a pair of stairs, he wasn't sure if he had the energy for that left. His neck itched and stung, but he couldn't change anything about it. His mind telling him also that it was hidden by his fur so if he changed back he would have to deal with seeing the wound, he didn't like that idea. He looked around, the chairs, the couch, the food, he could use some sugar, he felt exhausted, he wasn't sure if staying like this panther form would have any bad consequences. He for some reason couldn't remember what happened at the military base, he knew it somewhere far in the back of his head but it wasn't his concern right now and so he just followed and looked around when he entered her place.[break][break] In her apartment, she talked to him and his blue eyes looked up but gave no other indication, he did not nod or anything but he watched her again silently as she went to the bathroom and he looked around. He had seen her smile and he wanted to be convinced that he was safe but it did not always felt so easy. He moved to the balcony door and just simply looked before making a round through the living room and kitchen before softly hopping on one of the chairs and just sitting there, his tail wrapped around his front paw, his head more clung to the right to cover or scratch away the itch of the pain. He wanted it to go away. if you've got mine HE WAS PERCHED ON A CHAIR when she returned, watching Teruko with those silent, blue eyes. Usually, Teruko could take command of a pregnant silence and break it so expertly—she was the life of a party, so to speak. But… man, this silence was way too uncomfortable for even her expertise. She made a passing attempt at humor, with a faint,
“Heh, you remind me of those lion dog statues—you know, the Chinese ones?”
With how he sat so primly in a chair, while still in panther mode. It was an amusing comparison. Of course, the observation fell flat. Teruko’s already-uncertain smile faltered. She padded towards where Akiva sat, setting her first-aid kit on the counter.
“I got some hydrocortisone,” she said simply, “Should help with the sting, I think. It’s on your neck, right?”
She couldn’t help but feel like she’d fucked-up somewhere along the way—like she was wrong to intervene—like parts of the story were missing. Already the altercation was a blur in her mind—she’d seen Akiva, feared for him, and… blank. Teruko knew what she had done, but didn’t know.
With how Akiva’s head was tucked, though, it was hard to tell where the injury was. That, and the fur.
“Show it to me, kid,” she instructed. They’d have ample time to talk about this later. When he… wasn’t a panther? Could he even talk, panther-mode? Maybe not talking was for the best… for now, anyways. It gave the kaiju woman time to think.

[attr="class","grHeaderB"] [attr="class","grBody"]He should talk to her but he couldn't find the words. He was so utterly disappointed in himself. Thanks to his shit attitude, Enda was... god yea again, head not hurt Enda only once but twice and this was their silly reunion. He would try to not claw at it, but it was itching and painful at the same time. He cocked his head to the other side and tried to get it away. He should talk to her when she made a joke, "I am half Chinese." He tried to grin at her, but it was a failed attempt, was more of a grimace and he tried to change back, but nothing happened. He was too focused on the pain and to be honest, afraid it would hurt him more as a human being than in his panther form. He looked at her with his blue eyes that did not fit his panther look and gave a small nod but winced shortly after that, obviously when you nodded... you moved your neck. He almost nodded again with her second question, but managed to keep his head level and not do so.[break][break] "I can't." He wanted to show her by turning back but he couldn't, it didn't work. He didn't want to be whiny but gosh it hurt so much. He moved his head away from her to show the bright red skin and burn wound that was covered by some of the black fur but it was obviously singed. He tried to focus on shifting back for her to see it but there was too much fear, fear he would be much worse that way and that's why hit didn't change. You could see it, pulling on his face to become human but it did switch back like he was some sort of light switch. The nightmare of werewolf stories but he sat there quietly in the end, not changed, just a panther in the hands of his boss, trying to patch him up. IF YOU'VE GOT MINE WHEN AKIVA SPOKE BACK TO HER, Teruko nearly fumbled her first-aid kit, yellow eyes going wide in surprise. Thankfully when the woman dropped the kit, she dropped it onto the kitchen counter.
“I… didn’t know that,” she remarked, a laugh at the edge of her tone. Hard to tell what race anyone was, really, with all the unusual hair colors and mutations and such. Did that make her observation racist, then? Hard to say. But Akiva was wincing, and Teruko was wincing and… god, the whole thing was awkward, so she let it drop.
“Didn’t know you could talk panther-mode, either,” she continued, “You startled me.”
Guess that made two of them, though. Teruko popped the first-aid kit open, setting the hydrocortisone out, first. Would she need to bandage it? Was there even a point in bandaging it, if Akiva would just shapeshift back into human-mode later?
It seemed that the whole misunderstanding had left the shapeshifter whiny and prone—she’d meant for him to give her some indication of where on his neck he had the irritation, either via gesture or word. But the panther’s tired insistence that he couldn’t show her meant that he’d either misunderstood the direction, or was simply too tired, too stubborn, or too scared to yield. Teruko’s throat clenched.
“Alright, kid, alright,” she sighed, ever patient. Teruko retrieved the tube of hydrocortisone from the counter, and stepped carefully around the stool where Akiva sat.
“I’m gonna lightly run my hand over your neck, okay? You tell me when I find somewhere sore.”
With his permission, she’d start lightly trailing the flat of her palm over Akiva’s neck, searching for a sore spot, waiting for some cue—either verbal or strictly reactionary.
“So… kid… what was up with tonight?” she asked. Teruko was never one to leave unspoken things alone for long, “Why did Halloran have you all leashed-up?”

He looked at her with his sea-blue eyes and felt horrible that he had scared her. He should not have talked, it was actually a miracle that he managed to do so. But then again when he felt feral and stupid he wouldn't know how to say something. Something decent, or actual words and now he managed to slip out something so easily. It was a fact, easy to state and he looked at Teruko and he wanted to nod but that made him hiss and he stopped doing that but she was okay? Right? She smiled a little at him, so it was okay. He looked at her, followed her with his eyes, "It feels silly to do," He noted when she said she had no idea he could talk in this form. It felt weird and he did not like to do it but that also made it very hard to work with him. He was trying to be a good vigilante and that was a lot of work but he would really do good, alright? He promised himself and others, Teruko too? "Sorry." He had to apologize though because he had scared her. But yea he was half Chinese, his Chinese half sucked though but that wasn't the point, he would just... not talk about it anymore. He watched what she was doing, not liking the idea of finding the hydrocortisone, it must hurt him, right? Though the wound felt itchy and hurtful now and he did not know how to point it out. He couldn't turn back. He tried to talk more to her but it felt so hard.
It was a miracle he got so many words out but when she asked about pointing out where he was hurt. But he couldn't shift back. His mind albeit trying to get it together was still fumbling and feeling feral after what happened to or with Enda. He would change back and make everything easier for her but it did not work, he looked down in the sense of emotion. He wasn't even helpful to the person coming up for him. He didn't even lash out to the word kid, which he hated. But he wanted to be cared for. "Okay." He said softly when she suggested what to do and he did not like it, made himself sit tensely. It was clear by a soft hiss and him closing his right eye that she had found the spot eventually, the blood sticking to his dark fur was maybe more obvious now that she knew where to look but pushing the fur away showed a bright red skin and a cut.
But she also asked him another question and so Akiva tried to focus on that, "I haven't seen him for so long. Last time I was supposed to see him, he left my house without a note or anything and now pretended nothing was wrong." He sighed, finally daring to look up again at Teruko, "He is my ex-boyfriend." Was that smart to tell Teruko? She was an open-minded, nice adult, she wouldn't judge him right?

IF YOU'VE GOT MINE “S’ALL RIGHT.” Teruko said simply, “Just surprised me is all.”
Nothing to be sorry about. Just… wasn’t every day that you saw a talking panther. Then again, Akiva was not an actual panther, but a guy that turned into a panther. That was an important distinction to make.
With his permission, the kaiju began to lightly run her hand over the back of Akiva’s neck. Black fur made it difficult to see the dark, bloody wound. But she certainly felt the matted patch on his neck, and she felt the transformed man tense when she ran her palm over it.
“Maybe some hot water, first,” Teruko remarked. She padded to the sink, turning it to “Hot” and grabbed a rag out from underneath the sink as she waited for the water heat. Teruko was soaking the towel as Akiva began to dance towards an answer. He wove an explanation about not having seen the other man for so long, of pretending things were fine, and then… ah, something substantial. They were exes.
Teruko shut the sink off, wringing the towel so as to rid it of most of the excess water.
“Ah,” Teruko said simply, padding back over, “So… what I interrupted… was a lover’s quarrel?”
It very well might not have been just a lover’s quarrel. But she needed more details, and Akiva seemed reluctant to divulge too much information.
Teruko dabbed the matted fur with the warm washcloth, keeping her touch cautious and light, hoping to rid the inky, black fur of some of the encrusted blood.
She could see the wound better, now, as she wiped the fur down. The skin irritation, the blood. The wound was starting to scab-over, but it was clearly still enflamed. The hydrocortisone would probably help.
“What was the chain for, then?”
More pieces to the puzzle. Something as simple as a lover’s quarrel could become so much more complicated when quirks were involved.

As usual, it felt so strange and he felt not really human or anything really and he just sat there and he just watched, wondering, he rather cried but you could not do that, not as a man, so it was something to consider. Nope, he just sat there and just tried to say not much at all, words were difficult, unexpected, unaccustomed to. He wasn't sure what to do or what to say and well it was best to not say much. He apologized because he felt silly that he surprised her about talking. But every power or quirk and everything was different, so what should she say, she just was doing the best for him. He was not sure if that made it better or worse, he did not deserve it.
She would just let him do the best for him, so he let her pet him and run her hands through his fur and he just let her know a little. He just tried to not scare her again but it was painful in the end, he was mostly tense when she touched it and he made an affirmative sound when she suggested hot water. He did not want to nod after all, that would be horrible.
She would ask him more questions and it would make sense. He would try to give her an answer and he felt like he should because she had been so good for him all the time and actually he wanted someone to look after him, someone to care about him. "I do not actually know. I thought, I thought he was gone and suddenly he was here, calling me out and just I don't know." After all Enda left, and he still did not get it. He just did not know how to give more information because what was the information to give, so it remained that weird and he just winced a little when he felt the warm washcloth. "When we were dating I told him I was allergic, obviously he thought it was a lie and just kept up with it when we were dating but he is a guy that wears gold and now well he hugged me, not that I wanted it. But the necklace touched me. It's kind of like a werewolf thing I would say. Only I am allergic, very much allergic to Gold." He wasn't sure what to say more about it, he was so confused himself. "Sorry." He, therefore, said again.
