APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY
Appearance:
Ryouichi Shindou is a towering man, in both actual size and how he carries himself. With a body and face tempered and scarred by battle, thick grey hair that conveys his aged form, and piercing, focused eyes. His gaze seems to always carry with it the implication of dominance, of control and focus. Although his form is wrinkled and aging, Ryouichi has not let his body fall behind, and keeps it in great physical condition. He is, overall, the very embodiment of a powerful and old warrior, the kind of man whose very image brings forth thoughts of countless wizened martial artists...

Personality:
To many, Ryouichi Shindou is nothing more than the embodiment of martial prowess and experience. A stern and powerful man who doesn't hesitate to use his authority and unwavering dogma. His powerful will gives him the strength to protect that which he holds dear; his family and legacy, and his experience and time in Kashima has made him incredibly wise in the eyes of others. This old warrior is unwavering, unshakable, and utterly intimidating. At least, that's what many believe.
Beneath his virtuous, empowered persona is a man who is, at his core, desperately clinging to the past. His desire to protect the legacy of the Shindou family, the legacy of his late wife, has driven him to take to extreme measures. He is dishonest when he needs to be, willing to hide the truth of the past if it means maintaining those legends. He is entirely vengeful and ruthless, for to him, a future without honoring the past is meaningless. For that reason, one cannot so easily confront the sins of days gone by.
Yet, in the end, he is still desperate. He despises uncertainty and threats to the family and legacy he does truly love, leading to his extremes. Driven by love, hate and fear, this stoic warrior is a undoubtedly passionate. Just often for the worse rather than the better.

HISTORY
Ryouichi doesn't know his original surname. He never knew his biological parents. Instead, one day, a young boy was simply left to an orphanage, his name given in passing. In the city of Kashima, he would be raised, without any history to his name.
Like many who grow up without sufficient care from those around them, Ryouichi was a somewhat troubled youth. He quickly fell in with the wrong crowds, quickly fell into habits of delinquency and violence. When he was a teenager, he was already doing dumb things with his anger, even going so far as stealing from strangers. Old men were a particularly common mark.
Then, one day, he got his ass kicked.
He had considered himself a good fighter, until that day. Until a 40-something with a thin build was looking down at him. Until he met Noboru Shindou.
The esteemed and celebrated 21st Headmaster of Jikishinkage-ryu took a liking to the spirited youth, and offered him a better place to vent his violent urges. He offered Ryouichi the chance to learn kenjutsu in Kashima's most popular school of swordsmanship.
Ryouichi was quickly discovered to be a prodigy in the art of swordsmanship. His aggression and determination allowed him to quickly train his way to becoming one of Noboru's most promising pupils. He was, at a point, the second strongest student among the Dojo.
Second only to Noboru's own daughter, Yuki Shindou. A kind, willful and elegant girl, for whom Ryouichi quickly fell head over heels.
Working his way through the ranks of the school, Ryouichi found himself spending more and more time with the Shindou family, who came to accept him readily. They were a powerful presence in Kashima, with Noboru aiding local unions, and this presence allowed Ryouichi to learn more of the city, to fall in love with it, and with it's people. Particularly, Yuki.
Their love blossomed, and in time, the two were married. With no surname of his own, Ryouichi took on his wife's. He became Ryouichi Shindou.
A few years later, they'd have their children. A pair of twins - though not identical - who were given the names 'Akane' and 'Miku'. From their birth, Ryouichi knew what he wanted from them. He knew he wanted them to learn to love the culture and history that he had, to carry on their legacy, the legacy of the Shindou family, of Jikishinkage-ryu...
However, only one of them would.
When the girls were in their early teens, tragedy struck. Yuki Shindou had been aiding with training programs in a certain military base when the Atsugi Disaster happened. A Quirked villain, with all their fearsome power, had caused widespread devastation... There was no chance of her survival.
The family was shattered by the grief. Miku and Akane were heartbroken. Noboru disappeared. And Ryouichi was consumed by his rage. He became the 'Shura of Ibaraki'.
As vigilantism began to spread, Ryouichi joined the wave. He enacted violent vengeance upon the unjust Quirkers who'd harmed his family so, blinded by agony and sorrow. He fought criminals where he could, assaulting them without hesitation, though at least claiming only to fight those who'd threatened the city of Kashima. No one quite knows how far he went.
Many in the city knew of his exploits, despite the technical secrecy of his identity, yet none knew his bigoted views. He viewed Quirkers as simply a threat to his family, to his legacy, to the future of his wife's memory...
His rage subsided in time, but never fully dissipated. He took position as the 22nd Headmaster, and gained further influence in Kashima.
Then, Akane ran from home.
The letter she'd written revealed she'd been Quirked, and her fears of her father's violence, leaving Miku as the only successor. There was tense stillness in the following days, Ryouichi's rage continuing to fade and still, yet he kept hidden that his daughter had fled on bad terms.
Until, many years later, Miku Shindou met a certain steelworker, who'd soon become her husband. In a few more years, Tetsuko Shindou was born.
What happened since is more recent history, yet has changed little... Miku was attacked viciously, with Akane the likely culprit, yet Ryouichi did not reveal that to anyone... Tetsuko unveiled her Quirk, and Ryouichi encouraged her to become the next step in the Shindou legacy.
Everything moved forward. And he was just content to leave the past untouched.
For their history. For their legacy.
