Sixty hours after Meara O'Connor disappeared, Jack Orion was summoned to the gates of UA at the break of dawn to try to find her. It was the early days of summer, and a heavy mist had settled over the school grounds--one that promised to be burnt away as the sun rose, making for a hot, muggy, day. For now, Mustafa was hidden--the city beyond the school gates muffled and quiet, the low hum of cars and drone of cicadas soft enough that they could be a trick of the imagination.
Mikhail Orlov was waiting when Jack arrived, a thermos of steaming liquid in one hand, a gleaming ASTA-brand cellphone in the other, dressed in a purple silk yukata that looked absurdly expensive and authentic. Even if the snake-man’s face was as smooth and rough as always, Mikki seemed somehow tired. Apparently, he wasn’t using his time off to sleep.
Mikki didn’t respond to Jack’s approach until the student had gotten within a couple feet, then smoothly tucked his phone into his belt, looking up with a wry, slightly sad smile, nodding in greeting.
“There you are, Orion. Punctual. I suppose you would be today, of all days.” Mikki said, slithering closer and gently clapping Jack on the shoulder. He sounded like he was trying to be more cheerful than he felt, probably for Jack’s sake. “Your escort will be along any minute, don’t worry.”
Mikki stayed facing Jack, hand on his shoulder, lowering on his tail so he didn’t loom quite as much over the tiny student.
“You’ve been cleared to be out looking until 8PM. So you’ve got nearly twelve hours, Jack. If you leave Mustafa, warn us. Keep your phone close, call for help if you get in trouble, and if you see any known villains...call in the pros. There’ll be cops at the maid cafe where she worked, they’ll be expecting you.” Mikki said, explaining camly and deliberately. It was hard to tell how much he expected from Jack. It could have just been a pity offering, but still--there was the sense that the teacher hoped for the best as well. “Do you have any questions?”

The moment that Mr. Orlov notified Jack to meet at the U.A. gates the next morning, the young dragon boy found himself quickly unable to sleep. He found that his mind was too busy; planning on where to go, who to look for, even going as far to polish up his newly upgraded hero suit. He was beyond restless, even more than he usually would be. He was like a small bundle of energy waiting to explode.
However, there was a great reason for this. While he admittedly could have been a little bit more quaint with his emotions, Jack had been biding his time for the moment he was given the go-ahead to go and search for Meara. When Principal Kobayashi granted him the proper permission - after noting both his faults and achievements, of course - Jack immediately found a spark of the life that he was missing for the last few days. He had practically been counting the hours since Meara had gone missing...only 60 now, but to him it felt like a lifetime. Too long, he decided. Now was the time to take action; to do his part in either finding his love or bringing the people who took her to justice.
Admittedly, he almost preferred the latter idea, even if it only meant that they could face his wrath. No one was going to stand in his way now; save for time. Time was always a bastard.
Jack was relatively early in terms of time, but he didn't really mind. The more time he had to search, the better. He was going to make use of all of it. He wore his hero suit, of course, though he elected to throw a purple cloak over himself, and made sure his wings and tail were practically invisible. It would be easier to talk to people that way, not as many people giving him the odd look. And, considering where they were going, he was probably going to be grateful for the lack of attention.
He nodded silently in response to Mr. Orlov's greeting, his face stone cold, his mind clearly set only on the mission at the moment. Attain information, nothing more. He did, however, appreciate his teacher's seemingly warm touch on his shoulder. His expression didn't give away much, but Jack knew that he was hoping for the best as much as the young student was.
He listened carefully to the teacher's words, giving him a brief rundown of his time limit and other limitations. "I'm aware, Sensei. I'll do what I can within the time given to us. I'm sure this won't be the last time I go out, assuming everything goes well." he replied, his tone an odd mix of his usual, happy tone...and a very angry undertone. "And I assure you...I will make U.A. proud."
With that, though, he would look around for a moment, before letting his guard down just a little. He exhaled a shaky breath, steam puffing out of his mouth like a sauna. "...Thank you for this, Mr. Orlov. It means more to me than you know," he said, looking up at his teacher with a grateful smile, a depressed look in his own eyes, before he quickly hardened back up, taking another steamy breath, and crossed his arms under his cloak. From there, he would wait patiently for his escort to arrive.
He just hoped they wouldn't take too long. He wasn't a very patient dragon right now.

Jack was more than a little off today. Yasashi kept his hands in his pockets while he stayed close by. The assignment from the Disciplinary Committee had been clear; keep near Jack Orion, Keep him out of Trouble, failing that, keep him and yourself safe. There was not a lot of wiggle room on that point and Yasashi was something of a stickler for the rules to begin with. All that said, permission had gone through at the administrative level for Jack to go ahead and search for Meara. The boy was nothing short of impatient and reckless; which reminded Yasashi of a few other people he knew.
Yasashi exhaled, a flare of heat bursting from his nostrils as he approached Jack and Orlov Sensei. Serperior was as incredible looking as ever; a damn near blazing symbol of heroic elegance. Yasashi scratched his head a little, aesthetics didn't work very well for his quirk, so he felt a little pang of jealousy for the man.
Yasashi cleared his throat and let out a boisterous laugh; "BAHAHA! Jack Orion's personal escort, reporting for duty Serperior Sensei!" The giant of a boy guffawed, stepping toward them with his hands still in his pockets. On his hip, his skull mask bounced while he stepped. He kept the small trinket handy as a 'transformation tool'. It aided with his muscle memory for using his quirk to form armor. Without it, he would have to use that much more effort to form his armor. He scratched the side of his head and looked around before nodding to Jack.
"I'm here to help as much as I can. Freya will be along shortly as well, I asked her to grab a few things," He said, resting one hand on his hip and nodding to Serperior. "Thank you for allowing her to come with us. I know her situation is a bit..." Yasashi scratched his nose; "Unusual, but she's a second pair of eyes for me. It will be helpful to have her." | TAG WORDS NOTES

“Don’t mention it, Orion. You deserve a chance to prove yourself.” Mikk replied, giving Jack a small, encouraging smile. It wasn’t even fake.
Mikki was surprised to find Jack acting far more professional than usual. Mikki certainly hadn’t anticipated that. No, he’d anticipated Jack’s usual poor self control, kicked to a deadly new level by anger, and grief.
And the anger and grief clearly was there, but it had, just perhaps, put a hint of steel into the boy’s spine instead of sending him into a spiral.
Mikki felt faintly guilty for underestimating the boy. It was easy to expect the worst of others, and, as unprofessional as it was for a teacher, Mikki was often prone to underestimating Jack. Unfair, perhaps, but poor emotional control and one of the most destructive quirks he’d ever seen were a combination that went together as well as orange juice and milk.
“Yasashi-san, welcome. And your companion as well.” Mikki said, pivoting to the second student. Jack’s (current) clear head made him feel a little less bad about roping Keiko’s child into this messy affair. Taka Yasashi was exactly what UA needed more of--responsible, outgoing, a pillar of good behavior for the rest of the school. A pillar carefully built up over the past nearly-two-decades by a well-meaning, but somewhat overbearing mother, but…
Well, it could have been worse. They needed people like Yasashi. Until they crumbled.
“Jack’s ready to go, so as soon as the bus arrives, we’ll be off. Yes, the bus. My car’s at the train station. In Tokyo.” Mikki added, waving at the stop at the end of the long cobblestone stairs that lead up to the school. Someday, he’d start driving again. Someday, when using public transit for everything became too inconvenient.
“You’ve both been briefed, so as Jack doesn’t have any last minute questions, you can ask yours on the ride. I’ll be in the area, on my standard hero patrol. Expect a...fifteen minute response time, at worst.” Mikki added brightly. Hopefully, it would be less. Part of him did want both Yasashi and Orion to have a chance to prove themselves in actual combat, but if a student got kidnapped, or seriously injured under his watch?
Mikhail vividly remembered Tsuji’s small, crumpled form during the riots, and shivered.
No. He wasn’t that careless.
Once Yasashi’s--Mikhail weirdly thought of the creature as a daughter, as did Yasashi himself--joined them, Mikki started to slither to the bus stop, humming a bright, catchy pop-song under his breath, the picture of carefree joy. As Yasashi already knew, appearances were important. Hopefully, Orion would learn that soon as well.
“So, the cafe--I’m sure you know it better than I do, Orion, but everyone there is going to be shaken up, and exhausted. They also might feel guilty. Expect tears.” Mikki said, unable to fight his urge to lecture. “Eyewitnesses accounts are unreliable. Make sure to talk to people separately, and compare stories.”
The bus arrived, and Mikki boarded, waving cheerfully at the driver and slithering right into the handicapped spot, the only place he really fit, acting as though he’d been having a pleasant chat about homework or something with the students. What an odd thing to spend his summer break on. People were staring at them, as always, but that didn’t bother him. If anything, it encouraged him. Reminded him how much faith people had in UA, and how much they had left to do. He squared his shoulders, still grinning.
Maybe they would find Meara. If he acted the part--perhaps!
“Now, have you watched any shows you’ve enjoyed lately? I’ve been watching one about robots in a simulated wild west. It’s very thought-provoking!” He said, shifting his thoughts on a dime. People could hear them. It was better to talk about lighter things. “Oh. Do you have a plan of attack? Rehearse, then act!”
...If he could stop himself from overcoaching! How had he become unable to stop teaching?
The cafe was just a short ride across town. It didn’t look like the site of a super-battle. It was a short, cute little building decked out in blue maid (or perhaps lolita) styling, with lace buntings in the window, and a frilled blue canopy. Nothing seemed out of the normal outside, either--tables were sat outside in the summer sun, with patrons (mostly men), eating pastries and other sweets off small dessert plates, while attractive young women in maid uniforms scurried from the back to serve them, often stopping for long conversations. The only person free to talk was the host at the counter, an older girl with bubble-gum pink hair. Except…
In the alley next to the cafe, one of the other workers was taking a break, smoke drafting from the short cigarette held between long, egg-shell blue painted nails as she stared off into the peeling paint on the building across from her. She cast frequent, evasive looks at the street, probably afraid of being caught smoking.

Jack tilted his head to the side lightly as he detected Yasashi's arrival. He gave a light smile in response to his friend's boisterous spirit, admittedly a little thankful for it at the moment. He needed the light side of himself to shine just a little bit more during this trying times. Even if he was probably one of the many people who thought Jack as nothing more than a reckless idiot... His smile faded for a second at that thought, a steely determination suddenly filling his eyes and his heart. He hadn't gotten much of a chance to actually show what he's learned. Now was most certainly the time to prove himself.
"Hopefully she doesn't take too much time, then. We've only got 12 hours. I intend to make use of all that time," he said sternly, giving the light undertone that implied authority. He didn't particularly care if he was the one being watched - he was the one who took the initiative and ask for this mission. As far as he was concerned, all things considered, this was HIS mission. Yasashi and Mr. Orlov were there to provide supervision and assistance, nothing more. Even that, he was determined to show that he was more than capable of more missions like this. That extra half-year of training wasn't going to be for naught.
Mr. Orlov would then go more into detail of their starting point: the cafe where Meara worked. Jack was actually a regular there because of that, so he knew that at the least he would be a familiar face to those who worked there. He pursed his lips at the aspect to expect tears. "...I'm aware, Sensei," he replied, his tone still relatively flat and dropping the subject of the matter there for now. He felt his own enhanced emotions acting up for a moment, sending a flurry of anger and anguish surging through Jack's system. His horns turned a bright crimson red for a moment. Jack took a deep breath, letting the emotions fuel him, rather than control him. The bright red color eased into a more comfortable orange color - a mix of his anger and his calm state of mind somehow finding a nice middle ground.
"We have one mission. Gather intel. The more information we have, the better. Especially if we're heading into the Red Light District - there's more than likely more eye-witness accounts there," he said, replaying the night he went in search of her with Tetsuko in his head, like the probably thousand times he had before. With that, he would go quiet as the bus would arrive to whisk the three Heroes to their destination.
And, admittedly, Jack ignored the small talk. Can't exactly watch many new shows when you're busy grieving, after all.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Once they arrived on the scene, Jack would take the area in. It was just like any other day he was there - the only main differences being Meara's absence and Jack's lack of a shy attitude while he was here. He eyes shifted from the overall interior of the cafe, to the side of the building where one employee was on a smoke break. He tilted his head from side to side, trying to think of the game plan. He would look to Yasashi and Freya after a moment.
"Yasashi, you and Freya head inside and get info from in there. I'll go question the employee smoking over there..." he started, mostly waiting for any sort of objection of him being alone for a moment. If one was raised, Jack would raise his hand to stop him. "I will be fine, before you say anything more. We're here collecting info, and splitting up for 10 minutes at most won't hurt us. I'm here to make use of our time - trust me when I say I have control," he would say, stressing that last bit of information. Despite his looks, he wasn't exactly a child here. He was more or less just making the most of his time.
Whether Yasashi agreed or not, Jack would start to make his way towards the smoking employee. Despite his orange horns, Jack quickly put on a rather lax smile, a mask he was more than used to putting on at this point. "Hola, amiga. Been a while," he said, recognizing the employee briefly, though they hadn't had too many interactions. "You probably know why I'm here. I'm sorry to lay on a somber mood on your break, but I wanted to ask you what you remember from the night Meara O'Connor disappeared."
Despite his calm demeanor, Jack's eyes were more than attentive. His ears twitched now and again, listening for the odd noise, his nose even working to smell any hint of Meara or anything else unusual. He was in his element - a hero doing hero work. Especially when the mission meant as much to him as it did - he refused to let even himself screw things up now. For HER sake.

[attr="class","oneword1"] [attr="class","fromyou1"] @name Lets have ourselves a little fun~
BA HA HA HA HA HA!
[attr="class","itsover2"]Yasashi slammed his fists together and bowed to Serperior when the man greeted him. Overhead, Freya was coming in for a landing. The small, white-skinned golem-creature bowed in her oversized sweater and handed off a duffle bag to Yasashi. She looked at Yasashi probingly and he gave her a smile; "This is Serperior, a Pro-Hero," He said, gesturing to Serperior, "You saw him once during your hearing," He added. She turned and looked up at the Beautiful Hero with wide eyes before bowing into a deep bow, her hair falling down over her head as she mutely tried to demonstrate her position. Yasashi laughed and pulled her upright.
"Thank you. Sir." She muttered sheepishly, her steely gaze turning to Jack.
Yasashi nodded when Serperior pointed out that they'd both been briefed. A fifteen minute response time was a long time, but they both had panic buttons on their phones and both of them were trained enough to handle some violence. Yasashi had already fought a villain once; and he also had Freya. More importantly, he took a deep breath and let out a tuft of steam out of his nostrils. As a Fear-type hero, getting nervous was the last thing he should be doing. They followed Serperior to the bus stop and Yasashi hummed along with the man, a big smile cracking his features as he pushed through nerves back to his usual jolly self. Freya was steely as always and said very little, but that was just her way.
He sat, thinking for several moments, humming along with Serperior before clapping his hands together loudly; "BAH! Wait! Now I know!" Frey looked at him bewildered; "That song's Rush Rush Rush by OurSound? Right?" He asked loudly, pointing over at Serperior with a beaming look on his face. Frey's expression drooped and even she hid her face.
Yasashi guffawed out a laugh; "Don't you worry Sir! Jack will be just fine with me on his side!" He clapped his fist to his chest; He reached over and grabbed Jack by the shoulder, pulling him into a brief hug before releasing him; "I got your back friend!" He chortled, trying to jolly up his comrade.
On the bus Yasashi cheerily swayed left and right despite being huge enough to take up three seats. He nodded emphatically when Serperior mentioned shows; "I've been following that one too! Though I have been caught up on this one show recently, a mystery series following a gentleman thief who ends up solving more crimes than he does stealing things! Its amusing and heartwarming! BAHAHA!" He clapped a hand on his knee.
They arrived not long after, Serperior parted ways with them and he slid in behind Jack, He kept his smile but his volume dipped quite a bit. When Jack suggested splitting up, he did begin to raise an objection but was put down immediately. He glanced at Freya who nodded without needing to be told. She lingered at the window to the cafe, keeping an eye on Jack since she wasn't much of a talker to begin with. Yasashi himself peeked around and approached the first person he saw. He was wearing casual clothes but had a phone in his hand and looked like he was taking notes.
"Excuse me friend! Could I trouble you for a few questions about what's happened here recently?" He asked, breaking into a huge smile while those present were either amused by the giant reporter or terrified of his way too big to be natural frame. Regardless, he was able to single out one willing to answer questions.
