The shopping district was pretty perfect, all things considered.
There were numerous stalls with products up for anyone to browse, and it was easy to just blend into the crowd around him and not draw attention to himself. This let him explore the city without being bothered too much, which suited him just fine right now. He was dressed nicely enough to make sure nobody questioned him being there, with khaki long pants and a dark grey dress shirt that had the sleeves rolled up. Since he couldn’t actually afford to buy anything right now, looking the part was definitely needed.
He moved from stall to stall, taking care not to stay long enough to get bothered too much. Watches on one, necklaces on another, and some weird wooden sculptures on another. He still felt wildly out of place here, but Alex simply needed to push through that. If he was going to be here for the next few years, he needed to force himself to do things until he didn’t even worry about it anymore. The interactions he had were short, but it was something and he had successfully gone out and at least attempted to do something.
So it was a win, at least for today. The sun was out in full force, but aviator sunglasses took care of that bit. Alex didn’t know for sure, but he definitely thought that the bright light from the sun bothered him more than others. It was rare that he was out in broad daylight without some sort of cover for his eyes, and today was no exception.
There were maybe a hundred people around him at the moment, which to him was extremely crowded. Red eyes surveyed the crowd every now and then, just out of habit. He wasn’t expecting any trouble today, and plus it was kind of fun to try and predict which young people are other students. With three classes filled with people, there were quite a few of them to go around. After a fuckup his first day, he certainly wouldn’t go approaching any of them but it was a fun exercise nonetheless.
It was always good to practice being aware of the immediate surroundings, especially when Alex’s power set made him a lot less able to defend himself in the daytime when everyone was out and about. In his current field of view, there was an elderly man walking around with a kid who may very well be his grandson looking at bags, a couple of middle school aged boys running around the area playing some sort of game, and a super pretty blonde girl looking at some clothes.
The sensation of someone bumping into his shoulder interrupted his thoughts, and maybe showed that his gaze had been wandering for a little too long on that last person. It was done with enough force that if his stance was not so solid he would have been shoved aside or to the ground. He turned to see who rammed their shoulder onto him, and it just looked like an extremely moody teenage boy all huffing and puffing about something. Definitely a student in the hero course, Alex decided. Most of the people he had interacted with so far had egos the size of skyscrapers and there was more than one tantrum during the testing he had participated in.
Sad that this was the first and lasting impression of his classmates, but that was how it stood for now. There was no use doing anything about the bump, because that would only lead to a conflict. It was pointless to start a conflict in the middle of a crowd of people just trying to live their lives and enjoy a nice day out.
Shit happens, and there was this super cool watch stand somewhere around that he wanted to take a look at again.

Kyoko had been walking around the shopping district for a while now, she was SUPER bored. She had been given some money from her group but she couldn't find any clothes that caught her eyes. it was pretty hot this day so she decided to wear white jean shorts and a black top that had been tied in the front since it was too long. It served as a pretty stylish way of wearing the shirt and her boobs looked good in it, so she rolled with it! She wore wedges that were brown with black straps on it, black butterfly glasses that sat on her head between her pigtails. The girl also wore black diamond shaped earrings that had a red center in them. She also carried with her a small purse that had a couple of her belongings a few things any regular teenage girl villain would carry, lipstick, some make up,her wallet, a burner phone, and finally her favorite! Her taser! Her eyes were glued to her phone, the sound of her gum popping as she chewed it was drowned out by the sounds of people chattering nearby. "Ugh..they're all talking about nothing important...boring.." she said scouting around to see if she could find anyone of interest. She entered a brand store, closing her flip phone as she waltzed into the store. she hadn't been to this store before, they had a wide array of clothing for women, men, heck they even had unisex clothes! "Ouuuu.." She whispered as she analyzed some of the clothes on a racket in front of her when something caught her attention out of the corner of her eye. She caught a boy staring at her, she didn't react to him but watched him from the corner of her as she pretended to continue looking at the clothes on the rack. She watched as the kid behind him bumped into the boy, she took this opportunity to move since his attention shifted. she moved out of his line of sight and watched as the events unfolded in front of her. A snot nosed brat was being extremely RUDE, how dare he bump into that boy and not even flinch? What a jerk, she was not going to leave this be. As the brat walked away from mr peepers she bumped into him as well " Oh! im so sorry! are you ok?" she said as patted the brat's clothes down to distract him in unison with her charm, she reached into his pocket and took his phone. The kid didn't say anything and continued to walk, typical. As she walked off in alex's direction until she stood in front of him and smiled. "That kid was rude huh? You ok? I'm glad i got this off of him." she stated as she lifted up the kid's fancy phone, "It's a pretty knew model...even i dont have this kinda tech, im honestly jealous. My name's Kyoko by the way." she continued to say as she analyzed the phone "What should we do with it?" she asked the rather handsome boy curious to see what his response is. The phone had a slight pink glow to it, kyoko had begun using her quirk to unlock the phone so she could use it freely. "Kyoko's outfit"

That whole focusing on the surroundings thing needed some work.
Immediately after the bump, Alex was deep in thought trying to figure out who that was and whether he recognized them. There were three classes, and he had only kind of interacted with one so far so that left two other classes of kids. The general culture around these parts is more passive than anything, which meant that random aggression meant that the guy either had a really strong quirk and people couldn’t hit back or was just a delinquent who relied on people just not reacting. Nobody really reacted when he walked by so he probably wasn’t a local, or at least a well-known one because with a hundred people in the area it meant that…
His awareness came back with a little jump as he was more than a little surprised to find the blonde girl from earlier in front of him. Red eyes widened behind dark sunglasses as she started talking and he realized what had happened. ”You can’t...” he started, and looked back to find the boy from earlier. The guy was long gone, though, even if he could have seen through the crowd of people. He turned back to the girl, Kyoko, and was honestly so flustered in the moment that his jaw kind of just moved without making any noise at first.
”Just…” he started again, before pausing for a moment and continuing, ”Well, he’s gone now. Just give it to a security guard and say you found it on the ground.”
He stuffed his hands into his pockets, both to verify that his stuff was still inside of them and also because he thought it would make it impossible for anything to get stolen. It was completely obvious what he was doing, but he tried to play it off like it was natural.
”Name’s Alex, and we’re going to go find one of those security people to give that phone to. Shouldn’t be too hard, right Kyoko?” he continued with a smile creeping through his face, realizing that if he just walked off at this point the phone would never make it back to the boy. He appreciated the thought behind the action, just not the method. It was a minor enough crime that he wasn’t exactly going to go all berserk and start screaming for police, and if the phone was returned to security then it was completely victimless.
If the phone was returned to security. She could easily just ignore him and slip away in the crowd and there was basically nothing he could do about it. Best he could do is offer the suggestion to do the right thing and not punish her for doing it. ”Shame about that, it’s really easy for things to lose stuff in a crowd like this.” he started, brushing past Kyoko and making his way to where he thought there might be some sort of authority figure at a leisurely pace. ”Good thing you were there to pick it up before someone trampled it.”

Complete! The hack was done and Kyoko now had access to the phone. The hack was rather simple, while the phone was new and had a good security system, the brat had not activated yet which meant kyoko had an easier time than she usually would. She giggled a bit when Alex tried to play it cool, he was like a silly cat who tried to pretend nothing startled him and she found it cute. "Oh trust me, I had full intentions of returning the device to it's rightful owner." she told him in earnest as she followed behind him scrolling around the phone while she had access to it, she also changed the passcode in the mean time to lock the kid out of his phone.
As they walked around she also casually took a few glances upwards to get a better look of him, it was obvious from first glance that he took his appearance very seriously, nice clothes, good accessories, the way he carried himself even oozed practice. She guessed he was older than her since the way he carried himself seemed similar to that of an adult. She sped up a bit to walk side by side with him and grabbed his hand to stop him "Hold up, we don't need to get security involved, I have a better way to try to return it to that jerk who shoved you." she said smiling as her other hand held up the phone and it showed the kid's contact information and name. She then pulled alex by the hand with her to a nearby fountain "Here help me up, and hold this up since you're taller." she said as she climbed onto the fountain and handed Alexander the phone, she held onto his right shoulder to get a better grip incase she fell.
That's when the show began "OIIIII, is there anyone here who knows a -Insert random kid's name here-? He left his phone here and I wanna return it to him!" she then began to go on to the good part "He seems to attend U.A! He also really likes to read some saucy fanfictions between anime characters! Not to mention he's quite a rude person who purposely shoves his way through crowds despite there being PLENTY of room to move around" she announced to the crowd who was beginning to form around her. She figured either the kid would show up and retrieve his phone or she would teach him a lesson on being rude. Her inner internet troll was emerging from her personality, growing up with a computer in your body gave you constant access to internet trolls that rubbed off on her quite a bit. "Has anyone seen him?!" she said as a picture of his face showed on the phone screen.
As the crowd around her began to whisper to each other she smiled gleefully at her work, she jumped off the fountain and waited for the kid to show up and looked to alex as she spoke again "See? told you we would try to return it to the kid." she said smiling to him after a few moments she frowned a bit realizing she had gotten ahead of herself and might have caused alex some trouble. "Sorry about making this a spectacle I can't stand people being rude for no reason." She sat in silence wondering how the handsome stranger would react to her words.

When Kyoko said she had a better way of getting the phone back, Alex didn’t think to question it. That turned out to be an enormous mistake, because the woman was extremely decisive and before he had processed what was happening he was helping her get up on a fountain for some reason and she started yelling. His goal for the day was not to draw attention to himself, but by the time he realized how badly he had fucked that up it was already too late. Kyoko was already on the fountain and if he moved at this point she would probably fall, so he was effectively trapped in place with everyone wondering what the hell was going on and staring. His gaze was focused on the growing crowd as he sort of just froze while trying to figure out what to do.
There were certain situations where Alex didn’t mind attention, but this definitely wasn’t one of them. There was no reason for this, and no way for him to leave at this point without making an ass out of himself. Unless Kyoko was the one to stop, which meant all he had to do was convince her to do it. His gaze turned upwards and he opened his mouth to try and return some normality to the situation, but he just ended up freezing again. From the angle where he was standing, with her up on the fountain and bending over slightly to keep her hand on his shoulder nearly all of Alex’s field of view was taken up with Kyoko’s fantastic butt that filled up those white jean shorts quite nicely…
Freezing in that position was not exactly the most heroic or picture-ready, and that was a fact that the boy quickly realized as he turned his gaze back to the crowd and desperately hoped that nobody noticed. Honestly, he was so flustered that he just didn’t register what she was actually yelling until the end when she waved around the phone and asked if anyone had seen the guy. At this point, Alex really had two goals that he needed to accomplish in quick succession. First, he needed to get the hell away from the crowd staring at him. Second, he needed to make absolutely sure that the phone at least made its way back to going somewhere that wasn’t immediately his problem.
He had no idea who the heck was in the crowd, or if this incident would be brought up again. If it was, he sure wasn’t going to be forced to admit he was engaged in delinquent behavior at least this early on. When Kyoko got back down, Alex handed her back the boy’s phone instinctively. He noted that a picture of the guy from earlier was on the phone screen somehow, which meant that at the very least the woman was really good with technology… or the guy didn’t have a passcode.
Perhaps his best and worst trait was how decisive he could be, and this situation was no different. In the motion of letting Kyoko down and handing the phone back, he used the proximity between them to put his arm around her shoulders and basically start steering her towards where he thought security was. When she apologized for making a spectacle, Alex just shrugged. ”Making a giant scene isn’t really my style, but we’re committed now.” he started, his tone a lot more casual and calm than he felt. Since he was so close to Kyoko, he was basically just softly talking into her ear at this point. ”Back to Plan A. Sorry for being insistent, but my hands are kind of tied at this point.”
Which was completely true, for better or for worse. He was accepted into the first hero class at U.A., so he had an obligation to act heroic. At this point, he didn’t quite realize how much he was physically cozying up with Kyoko with the arm around the shoulder and the whole whispering in her ear thing. Truth be told, he was mostly still panicking about the crowd and just completely focused on getting that phone back so it wouldn’t be his problem anymore. It was tunnel vision, sure, but fully assessing situations and keeping track of everything under stress was hard.
Right?

Kyoko groaned out of boredom "Ugggghhh come on stop being a wet towelllllllll.." in a jokingly whiney voice. But suddenly his arm was around her shoulder and he was whispering in her ear. Her face turned immediately red as she tried to keep her composure, she usually did not get this red but Alex was a bit of a special case to her. She composed herself after "Fine, we'll do it your way. You're a touchy person huh?" told him after rolling her eyes, she placed her hand on her hip as they both walked towards the security guard to turn in the degenerate phone. But not soon after using a website she knew of to cause the phone to crash and lose it's data without Alex noticing, 'whoops' she said in her thoughts as she handed it to the authority.
Soon afterwards Kyoko moved a bit away from Alex and looked at him strangely, "Welp you ruined my fun and this place is boring so how are you gonna make it up to me?" she said looking the student up and down. "You could treat me to lunch? im kinda hungry if your up for it." she said trying to make alex buy her lunch despite the fact she had money to pay for herself, she loved to pinch pennies unless it came to clothing.

When Kyoko’s face started turning red, Alex’s first reaction was that of confusion. He didn’t realize what had happened until she asked him if he was a touchy person, where he finally realized just how close he was with the arm around her shoulder and the lean in super close. For the briefest of seconds, he didn’t know what to do and simply just froze.
The largely unintentional façade of being suave and cool fell apart almost immediately. Alex turned as red as Kyoko was and immediately backed off, stammering due to an inability to form complete sentences. ”No! It’s just… You know… I just wanted to…”
A flood of thoughts started rushing through his head at that point. What the hell was he thinking? He just met this girl and now things are so awkward he didn’t even know how to act. His hands shifted from being in his pockets to his right hand going to the back of his neck to just rubbing them together in front of him as he visibly panicked for a little while. The initial panic gave way to more panic because now obviously she was staring at him and oh god that just made it a million times worse.
He ended up just closing his eyes and taking a deep breath to try and force him into some sort of normalcy. ”Sorry, just got into hero training and don’t want to have a reprimand before I even really get started.” he ended up saying as he opened his eyes back up and at least forced himself to pretend how hard it was to stop shaking from embarrassment at this point. When the phone was finally returned, Alex let out of a sigh of relief that he hoped wasn’t audible.
When the woman walked in front of him and proposed lunch, after a jab at him for ‘ruining her fun’ Alex had to bite back a retort about doing the right thing. ”I’d love to!” he responded like he just won the damned lottery without thinking instead, because in the moment having lunch with an exceptionally pretty girl was much more important than things like having to spend all the money you were allotted for in the week. At this point, he was committed and he knew he had to act like it.
His body language settled down again, finally, and now he was intentionally projecting that cool demeanor as if he didn’t just completely blow it a few seconds ago. After all, it was mind over matter right? And he was awesome! He looked great and he felt fantastic! He was taking a super cute girl on a lunch date and he was winning at life! All he needed to do was keep up the positive thoughts and he was set!
Crap, did he seem too eager just now?
”Where do you want to go, Kyoko?” he asked, trying to downplay his earlier excitement and hide the fact that he was momentarily flustered again so easily. One day he would get that consistent, cool, and confident persona down. He needed to, if he wanted to be a hero one day.
The more pressing matter today, though, was how to pretend to be interesting for the next thirty minutes to an hour or so. That would take some acting, but Alex was up for the challenge.

"Hero training huh? look at you mr big shot." she instantly had a nasty reaction to finding out Alex was on the hero's side but she disguised her emotions perfectly. Alex would be a useful asset should he be able to prove interesting to her and she might spare him from future shenanigans she decides to pull. She smiled when he seemed enthusiastic to be eating with her, did he have a crush on her? she pondered for a bit about it and decided to leave those thoughts for later once she had more evidence. "Its fine, it makes sense you wouldnt wanna stir the pot, after all all of japan has there eyes on you. I can't even imagine the stress placed on you." she said "What's your quirk then if you don't mind me asking? it must be something super amazing im guessing if you were part of the first batch they let in." she said in a curious tone.
She crossed her arms and looked around, wondering what exactly she was in the mood for. Then she realized as if it was even a question. "I want some burgers and fries. Is that fine with you?" she said pointing to a nearby mickadees, it was cheap and she didn't like the owe others large sums of money and alex was no exception to this rule. She wondered how old he was, he seemed to have older features but his actions were that of someone who was younger. "How old are you by the way alex?" she asked curiously as the both of them walked to the fast food joint. As he spoke she started at the streetlight waiting for it to turn into the correct signal for them to pass.

Despite himself, being called a big shot plastered a smug grin all over Alex’s face. It was a huge change, going from a literal nobody that was barely above scum to having people be openly jealous of the opportunity he was given. He didn’t think he was a big shot yet, but he sure wasn’t going to tell anyone otherwise if they wanted to think that.
The highbrow talk about everyone in Japan watching the progress of U.A. was something that Alex just kind of ignored. He didn’t want to really think about that, let alone talk about it. He was a foreigner nobody who many might rightly think stole a spot from a local who was equally or more deserving. He would much rather let his work, once it had the opportunity to go public, speak for itself.
Kyoko asked what quirk he had, but Alex just laughed a bit in response to buy time for him to think of what he wanted to say. ”Where’s the fun in guessing if I just tell you right away?” he teased, and paused for a moment before adding: ”Plus, I think I like the sound of ‘something super amazing’. It has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?”
When Kyoko ended up wanting something that wouldn’t force him to eat dirt for the next week to make up for it, Alex just stopped himself from actually sighing in relief. When she asked if her choice was okay, the boy responded with a noncommittal ”I’m fine with anything you pick.” while internally counting his blessings. ”So, you from around here or just passing through?” he asked in his best impression of cool and disaffected. He was trying to think of cool and interesting things to say, but that was failing pretty hard so he would just default to asking some innocuous questions until he found something to sink his teeth into later on.
Plus, there was no need to make it obvious that he was asking if he’d be seeing more of her around. Nope. Not at all. She then asked how old he was, and before he had a chance to check himself from replying instantly he did it anyway. ”Sixteen.” he said matter-of-factly. ”Almost seventeen. How about you?” he added a moment later, his fake cool tone back on in full swing by that point. Fake it ‘til you make it was one of Alex’s enduring life mottos, because it usually at least somewhat worked out for him.
When the signal went for them to cross the road, Alex shifted position pretty seamlessly to be on the side closest to the incoming cars that were parked for the pedestrians to pass. It was something he learned from movies, that the guy for whatever reason was supposed to be the one body blocking nearby traffic. He didn’t quite understand what was so romantic about being potentially run over by incoming traffic, but he did it nevertheless because that was what he was supposed to do in his mind.

Hmmmm poo, no fun at all, this boy was very dry in her eyes. He didn't mention anything of his quirk and seemed to be pretty secretive, it kinda pissed kyoko off but she decided to play nice since he seemed like a nice kid and a useful asset. "Well it's obviously not a mutation...or if it is must be a small one cause i don't see anything different about you. But I digress, yeah it does have a nice ring to it i suppose" she said staring closely at alex's face while the street light was red and began inspecting him very closely there was nothing that really even gave a clue towards what made him different, special even. As the light turned green she walked forward with boy of her hands behind her back over her shoulders in a relaxed pose.
As they walked to the location that was close by she continued to indulge the kid as he asked questions about her personal details."Born and raised here. I've never left japan before and to be honest I don't know if I even want to." she said in all honestly "Traveling seems like a pain in the ass and with the way things are in the world right now with quirk bans and racism running rampant through societies, doesn't seem like a really good idea." trying to make some conversation with the boy, he seemed to have an aura of cool around him but it did very little to impress her, she would be more interested in seeing how he reacts and his actions.
"Sixteen? almost seventeen?? haaa you're a baby. You gotta call me senpai now. Im eighteen." she explained to him with a delightful giggle in her tone she walked next to him on the inside, she began to think this was one of those romantic things that happen in the movies and shows she watches at home on her quirk computer so she could fall asleep more easily. "What are you gonna get from mickadees?" she asked curiously.

The greatest part about Quirks like his was that there was basically no way to tell what he had unless it was used. All of the smaller signs like being particularly vulnerable to glare from the sun and feeling lethargic were easily missed as normal human behavior, which was honestly just the way he liked it. Plus, it was funny to see people guess random things because Quirks could be so unpredictable.
Alex could feel Kyoko’s eyes on him, so he decided to just look forward and try to look as normal and confident as possible. It wasn’t until she started answering personal questions that he turned towards her and started his own guesswork on her quirk. Or just an excuse to stare at a really pretty girl, either or. One of those explanations made him seem like not a creep, so he would use that one. One hundred percent.
”You’re right, travelling is a pain in the ass.” he agreed readily when Kyoko mentioned her concerns about it. ”Especially with the language changes, those are really tough. When you’re a kid, your accent isn’t too strong but later on it becomes so much more obvious. Some places aren’t so bad, though. I’m just glad my accent isn’t as bad as I thought it was at first.”
He spoke with the sort of self-assured, projected confidence that he hoped he actually felt one day. He was enjoying saying just enough to give a lot of information about himself, but absolutely no specifics and just watching her mind race. Whatever she was coming up with was probably more exciting than the reality, anyway, so he let her. He paused for a second while looking Kyoko directly in her eyes and an excited grin spread across his features in an instant. ”I think I know what your Quirk is, though. Your eyes have a second ring of blue inside, so it has to be a visual one. It looks kinda like…” he trailed off for a few moments, losing his thunder completely in that time. ”Vision… Eyes… You can magnify things like a… a…”
This was where Alex completely drew a blank and instead made hand gestures about that weird scientist thing with the tube and the glass that they looked through to look at the cells like in middle school and… shit, what was it called? He remembered looking through one of them in one of the science-y classes he had in school, bio-something. Biology! That was it! ”I remember! A magnifying glass!... no, a microscope! That’s it! You have eyes that can zoom in like a microscope! Easy!”
With that, the boy looked completely pleased with himself and continued on as if he was Sherlock Holmes and he had just solved a high profile criminal case. He was fully aware that he just looked like a complete idiot, but sometimes in life you just had to be continue on so confidently that nobody questioned you.
And what if he was actually right? That would be super impressive, so doubling down like he was completely positive would make it even more impressive.
When Kyoko giggled about his age and told him that he had to call her senpai, Alex bantered back without a second’s hesitation. ”Well, if you’re my senpai then at least you noticed me.”
Okay, that was super cheesy but he was committed at this point and he at least got it out before his better judgment could stop him. He made sure to open the door for Kyoko and just shrugged his shoulders when she asked what he was going to get. ”I’m not really hungry, senpai.” he lied, throwing in that extra word and winning smile in the hopes of distracting her from the fact that he was lying. He didn’t think he had any visual tells for lying, but of course there was that uncharacteristic pause and hitch in his voice this time because the question caught him off guard. Not something that the student himself noticed, but then again he wasn’t exactly the best people reader or investigator in the world.
All he was good at was picking up heavy things and hitting people with shadows. Which were great skills, to be sure, but not the most applicable ones to this particular situation. There was a decent sized line in front of them, and the smell of way too much salt to be healthy assaulted the boy’s nose almost as soon as the door opened. Nothing here was healthy, and it was probably good that he couldn’t afford to eat here. He could get food from the school when he got back, so it wasn’t the end of the world. He had good self-control for the most part, and this was just another aspect of practicing that.
A quick glance up at the menu would make that extremely hard, though. Apparently there was a brand new triple bacon cheeseburger on a discount, and it looked way too delicious in that ad to be true. Fucking hell, why did life have to be so hard all the time?

"RIGHT?! Besides who would want to leave japan, this place is pretty good in relation to the rest of the world, we have some good extreme weather conditions, ya know snow and blistering heat. Since we're a major nation we get a good majority of shows at the same time as american studios and stuff, lots of fishing and artisan goods, etcetera." She said before pausing for a moment "You have an accent?" she said playing stupid "Where are you from then if not here? Your japanese is pretty good for a foreigner." she asked curiously to satiate her hungry for knowledge brain.
As the topic of quirks continued Alex tried to guess her own naturally, but at this part she felt a bit conflicted. On one hand she saw the need to lie because they may eventually be opponents and him thinking that her quirk is useless could be an advantage. On the other hand she DESPISED having to lie in any way shape or form, not revealing something is different though because not mentioning it is not the same as telling someone something false. Her mother was the one who engraved that lesson into her head, going onto the news and portraying herself as a loving woman who placed her family and her love for them above anything else. ALL LIES, she would tell them that she would be spending a late night at the office preparing for her campaigns and stuff when in reality she was with that HORRID man. Her blood began to boil at the thought of her lying...that is until she found a way to not tell the entire truth.
"Yep! bingo! You're somewhat right." she said as her eyes focused in on Alex's face. "I can do this." turning on the webcam feature of her computer that was connected to her eyes. She then created a rectangle with her fingers and slowly moved them away from each other creating a screen of light in the middle showing a live stream of alex's face. "I can take a picture of what I see and send it to a device I want." the girl boasted in her version of telling the truth, it was true that most modern computers had a webcam and a screenshot functionality was a basic program that most computers came with. She just conveniently left out the fact she could hack stuff and that had a computer with her 24/7 that could access the internet with a good wifi connection.
"Yes I did notice you so that means you gotta do what I say, you can learn a lot from me. Taking pictures of the world around you could teach you a couple of things." she spoke to him. "For example someone lying to you when they say they are not hungry but are quite hungry." she smirked walking into the store. "Don't worry I'll spot you this time because I found out that im older. After all what good is a senpai for if I can't help." she said texting Miha about paying for a source's lunch which he approved on the condition she tell him about this source later. A small price to pay for them both to eat together and bond.
Regardless of what he said Kyoko would buy her cheeseburger with extra cheese and a side of medium fries, for alex she saw him staring at the new burger that the company had come out with. "And one of those new burgers, meal please. A medium soda should be fine." she said taking care of the order for him.
She then lead the way to a booth in the corner where the two could sit in private and chit chat while still being able to see the streets. "So what's a big shot like you doing at U.A? Are you planning on becoming a full time hero saving damsels in distress? Or are you one of those comic book nerds who is following in the footsteps of his favorite fake superheroes?" she asked curiously trying to learn more about Alex's motives and logic

For the moment, Alex was more than happy to let Kyoko rant about how great Japan was. If nothing else, it would give him some ideas on how to use his newfound freedom in the future when he had some extended time off. He couldn’t tell if she was playing dumb about the accent bit, though, because he was close enough to native speaker that there were a lot of people who didn’t exactly notice.
When she asked where he was from, he just gave her a little wink and said with an amused grin: ”A place not nearly as good as Japan, duh.” he paused for a second before continuing: ”If you guess right, though, I’ll confirm. Someone as smart as you should have no issue tracking the accent, right?”
It was a bullshit non-answer, but honestly that was more fun than just giving everything away immediately. Alex didn’t have a problem with saying he was originally from the United States, but then again few people ever really asked unless he seriously pissed them off somehow and they wanted ammo. If she was asking out of curiosity, that was honestly a first. He didn’t really have a lot of experience in this normal human interaction thing, and was just mostly focused on faking it until he made it. Growing up in foster care was not exactly the best place to learn amazing social skills, but it was a great place to learn posturing and making sure you didn’t seem like a weak target.
The live stream, though, made him feel more than a little uncomfortable. Was that thing on all the time? He tried to hide that initial reaction, but only partially succeeded in keeping his face neutral. That was such an… invasive quirk. If it could just save pictures, though, he guessed it wasn’t so bad. When they got inside, Alex took off his sunglasses to reveal his red eyes as he stuffed the eye protectors in his pocket as he squinted as he adjusted to the light. He took longer to adjust to bright lights than basically anyone else, which along with the sunglasses were basically the only physical clues of his actual quirk.
He turned his gaze to the ground when caught in the lie about not being hungry, but it shot right back up when she offered to pay to argue. ”You don’t have to—“ the boy started, but soon gave up because it seemed like there was no reasoning with Kyoko once she got going. ”Thanks.” he finally conceded, seeing that arguing would get him absolutely nowhere. Most people would find that trait annoying in someone, but Alex always really admired stubbornness for whatever reason. Plus, at the end of the day he was used to taking orders so accepted them much more readily than someone with a different upbringing might.
There were certainly worse ways to spend an afternoon than with a super pretty blonde who took the lead and paid for food, though. He was basically living the teenage dream at this point. When they sat down, Alex was much more careful about eating than he normally was. He waited to be the second one to take a bite and made absolutely sure to not make an idiot of himself by being gross or spilling something on himself. That would basically be the equivalent of being ripped in half by pliers or something on the physical pain it would cause him scale.
The question of why he wanted to be a hero didn’t surprise him. It was a natural one to ask, and it was one that Alex had a lot of practice in deflecting. ”I figured it would be a bit more exciting than a job in accounting or something.” he responded, his tone light and playful. ”What about you? You’re done with school at this point, right?”
Deflect and change the subject. It worked every time, because most people loved to talk about themselves. ”Though if you’re ever in distress…” he joked, eyes now completely adjusted to the light and easily meeting Kyoko’s gaze. ”I’m sure I could come up with something. If you could wait a few months to be in distress so I could get some more practice, though, I promise I’ll show you something worth the wait.”

"Probably american, at least that's what im guessing a lot of foreigners came to japan once U.A had opened, the majority being Americans." she surmised as she spun the straw around her drink that the fast food worker had handed her, she figured it out rather quickly once she had given it some thought, hopefully she was right. "I'm just gonna tell you right now I dont like being lied to Alex~ If you're hungry just say so, there is not point in telling white lies if you aren't being honest." she said in a playful tone trying to mask the annoyance of him saying such a pointless fib, she hated being lied too especially when it was written all over the young boy's face. While he was distracted staring at the new menu Kyoko saw and opportunity to snatch his phone and begin using her quirk on it, it was rather simple to unlock for some strange reason and kyoko then added her phone number on it and kept it in her breast pocket for safe keeping.
once the two of them moved on over to one of those high-top tables in the back of the fast food joint which was rather packed, she unwrapped her burger and fries. GOD how she loved fast food "I really love the food here, I know it's super bad for you, even worse in america im sure but at this point I really don't care cause of how pleasing it is to eat it." she said putting some fries into her mouth and swinging her feet under the table out of joy she said and listened to Alex's reasoning to becoming a hero. "Really thats your inspiration for being a hero? Not some kind of 'i wanna do good' kinda thing? that's surprisingly realistic." she admitted "Most kids want to be heroes cause it sounds good or some kind of misguided innocence that could lead to them getting really hurt right off the bat.." she said tilting her head and looking out to the crowd of people walking the streets of the shopping district. "I wonder what a world without heroes or quirks would be like, probably a lot less racism..definitely a lot less people committing crime just because they saw something worth challenging. Japan probably would have still had one of the lowest crime rates in the world." she said sighing, maybe she'd have been different if quirks never existed, she could have probably had a normal life and not this working from the shadows persona she created.
Soon Alex changed subjects back onto her, UGH she hated to talk about herself, it opened up chance for someone to take advantage of her weaknesses "Yeah I am done with school but I had graduated earlier than normal, I think i was around your age actually." she hummed as she scrolled down her phone and saw an interesting message from a man named Thunder-shock in the chat she had recently been added to. giving her an offer for an interesting job, when she looked back up at Alex it was obvious he was hitting on her...she didn't know how to feel about it since not many people really have ever hit on her. She knew she was pretty but this was pretty bold of him, or she misread the situation and this was him attempting to boost his ego
She then stretched her arms outwards towards him "Oh my hero~ thank you for the kind offer but im pretty sure I'll be ok" she joked. Alex was a pretty fun kid "Well it was nice meeting you Alex but I gotta go for now~ something came up with work." she said hopping off of the high seat "If you ever wanna hang out again, check your phone. I put my number in there while you weren't paying attention." she said laughing as she tossed him his phone towards him and the sound of her wedges clicking the floor slowly vanished into the busy streets of the shopping district. "Things just got really interesting." she hummed to herself as she walked towards the meeting place for her and thunder

A curious little meeting between future enemies...ooooh, the dramatic irony! I am gonna nitpick the story a tiny bit, though, but I just wanna say I did enjoy this thread a ton. Alex and Kyoko have an interesting dynamic. Can't wait to see them get into a fight. >:3c
Alexander: + 40 XP Kyoko: + 31 XP
Nitpick time. After looking at Kyoko's character sheet, I see she doesn't have any skills relating to pick-pocketing, but here she is nicking a phone from somebody's pocket with no problem. In the future, she shouldn't be able to get away with that so easily. Consider buying a thievery skill for the future if this is something she regularly does.
I'm also wondering why Alexander accepts Kyoko's request to buy her food after she's proven that not only is she a pickpocket, but also brings him a fair bit of negative attention from shouting at the crowd. Is it just because of her pretty face? If so, that's a character flaw that will likely get exploited. Not a bad thing plot wise, but just keep that consistency!
The falling out will be fun~ 🐾 Keiran 🐾
