forcing the hand TERUKO STOOD BEFORE THE SHATTERED WINDOW of her establishment with her hands upon her hips. With the glass-curtain-walling along the two faces of the restaurant, it was only a matter of time until some asshole attempted a smash-and-grab. Unfortunately for them, Teruko lived immediately above her restaurant. As soon as she heard the shattering glass, she was down the stairs with fire roiling from her maw.
Still an inconvenience, though—after the Fuchu breakout, crime was through the roof (obviously). Legitimately dangerous criminals running rampant were one matter. But the uppity little shits that broke the windows of privately-owned bakeries were something else—those bastards thought they could do anything, just because there were worse people on the streets now.
Hurgh, if she were still back in Tokyo, things would be different. The Watch would give those assholes a run for their money.
Teruko rubbed the end of her snout with the back of her hand. For now, the window was boarded—the glass company would take a few days to come and replace the window. Teruko checked her phone. The security company would be there soon. Her phone was re-pocketed, and Teruko padded back inside, muttering beneath her breath.
She’d closed shop, for the day. In the midst of smashing and grabbing, those assholes had also smashed her cakes and pies. It would take a whole day to clean the place and re-make the baked goods. Fucking assholes. So much wasted product.
Teruko took-up a mop, which she’d propped against a counter, and began to clean in a place where she could keep an eye on the door. She’d already swept-up the shattered glass, picked up the larger bits of cake and pie and disposed of them, and was now mopping-up the grime. While she worked, the woman muttered to herself, her brows furrowed. She’d expect something like this in Tokyo proper, but never in a place like Musutafu. Ah, well.

"No one will leave her side even for a second. You got that?" No one ever saw Shodo as serious as this before. After the assassination attempt of Chisa, he doubled the security protecting her. Even though it meant more work, no one ever asked for more pay. Shodo and Chisa was like a parents to them. They'd do it even if Shodo didn't asked them in the first place. Today he was going to Musutafu for a business deal. Normally he'd send someone else considering the recent events happened but it was Chisa who insisted that he had to go. "Can't leave bad impression with your customers!" Shodo wanted to say who the hell cares but hold his tongue to not get himself into trouble. After getting ready he'd leave with his driver and head towards Musutafu. He wasn't frequent in this side of the town even though they had businesses they protect.
Taking his tablet in to his hand Shodo looked at the info they had about the customer. "Mutation huh? What mutation..." Shodo looked at the folder containing her pictures and... "Damn... Must be though running a bakery like that. Hell running anything like that. " Hearing Shodo's reaction driver, who was a quirkless person chuckled. While people with mutation quirk was very... different, this Teruko person was the most unusual. There were always inconveniences when it comes to mutations. While thinking that Shodo realized how true that old saying was. "Don't just cover by book... No no, don't cover the book... Da hell was that?" He asked his driver, "Don't judge the book by it's cover, sir." said the driver smiling. They were all used to Shodo's weird personality. Sometimes he'd act like genius, sometimes like an elementary kid who doesn't know much. It was interesting yet sometimes scary to be around him. "Yeah yeah.. that one." Shodo replied without any shame. Of course he knew it! Just had a tough time remembering.
After a ten minutes of travel by car they finally reached their destination. Getting out of the car he looked at broken window. They might be able to help with this as a show of goodwill. "Times are tough, aren't they?" He would said as he get inside. "My name is Shodo, founder and president of Shodo corporation. We had a meeting with you concerning security business." after getting inside and introducing himself he would extend his hand, force of habit. He didn't know if they could even shake hands but it should not be bad to try... right?

forcing the hand A VOICE SPOKE FROM THE DOORWAY, and Teruko lifted her massive head. A man with an eyepatch had entered the building—besides the eyepatch, however, he was nothing noteworthy. Looked Japanese.
“Ah, Shodo-san,” Teruko echoed. She propped the mop against the counter, and stepped around the counter to meet his handshake. She had to stoop a bit to shake his hand, being well over two meters tall, but she wouldn’t use that as an excuse to not shake a person’s hand, “Thank you for taking the time to meet with me today. I appreciate it.”
Sure, it was his job, but she appreciated it nonetheless.
“Teruko Serizawa,” the kaiju replied, “I own this establishment. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Introductions having been exchanged, she released the handshake, and stood upright again.
“It isn’t my first rodeo,” the woman sighed, in regards to his “times are tough” remark, “I am surprised to see this kind of trouble in Musutafu, though. I was in Tokyo before this, but… here?”
She shook her head.
“That’s why we have insurance, though,” Teruko attempted to ease the discomfort with some humor, smiling thinly. She cleared her throat, rubbing her hands together.
“How do… consultations like this usually go, Shodo-san?” the woman inquired, “Is there… anything you need from me? Or should I stay out of your hair?”
While she was curious about what the visit might entail, she didn’t want to get in the way of a man trying to do his job, either.

What she said was true. Tokyo was chaotic enough but lately all that chaos was spreading to other places too. "Nowadays there is no safe place sadly... Villains and criminals are rampaging everywhere. Sad reality of the world we're living in. But fret not, that's the exact reason we're here for." He was glad that insurance would handle the damage caused to the establishment. Seems only thing he could do now was tell her the options they provide and see if they can make a deal. "For now we don't really need anything from you. First let's talk about the options we offer. Depending on the option you're going to choose, we can talk about details." Shodo smiled to ease the tension if there was any. He was never good at reading the mood. For that reason he would always try to smile and act good. That way he was hoping his general yakuza image would disappear too.
"We offer three different option. First is unarmed security. This option generally provide 1 to 2 person who is trained in hand to hand combat. It is the most simple security option we provide. Also it's the most popular among the customers as many Japanese people don't like the presence of the guns. 2nd option is armed security with handguns. Of course our people are trained in how to deescalate the situation, so they'll always talk before pointing their gun. If your troubles are more then simple window bashing i would offer this second option. 3rd option is the least wanted option due to it's extreme nature." He stopped to take a little breath and give the lady a chance to consider previous options. The last one was the safest one but it was also the most expensive and as he said... extreme. "In our last option, a tactical squad made up by 5 to 6 person will provide security with SMG's. This kind of option is more suited to dangerous businesses, i honestly don't think it will be viable for you. Also, all the guns our teams use is produced by us. So i can guarantee their reliability." He was honest when he said she did not needed the third option. This kind of bakery would not have anything dangerous like weapons or chemicals to protect. As long as there were some shady business going on background but... shady business in bakery? He didn't even entertain the idea. 2nd option would be the best if she wanted the best security with least trouble. Yet he would not go out of his way to stop her from choosing the 3rd one. After all this was business and he would make more money with that option. To not inflict information overload, Shodo decided that was enough for now. If she had more question he'd answer it more in depth.

forcing the hand TERUKO SMILED GENIALLY AS THE MAN spoke, bowing her head graciously. Although facets of her shop were in disrepair, the furniture was mostly still good. She extended one hand towards a table and chairs, encouraging Shodo to, “Please, take a seat.”
She wasn’t sure how long Shodo’s spiel would take, but Teruko wouldn’t be a good host if she didn’t offer him a chair, first. She would wait for the man to either take a seat or decline, before following suit.
The woman listened with polite interest as Shodo explained the three options, offering quiet “Ah, I see’s” and “yes, yes’s” at the natural breaks in his explanations.
Each option held its appeal—but she had to be mindful of the bakeries reputation. A bakery that served desserts and coffee to families, with armed guards? That would be such a bad look for her business!
That said… the guards were more for the evening hours and after-hours, when the business was closed. So did it matter if they were armed?
But with a quirk like hers, did they need guards with handguns?
Teruko’s Japanese sensibilities were truly at-odds with her need to make the business feel secure. She drew a hand to her chin, clearly weighing her options.
Her gaze went to the glass case, which had been emptied of goods and scratched by keys. It was clear that whoever had done this wanted more than wanton destruction—this was an attack against a Quirked business owner.
“Perhaps the second option is best,” she sighed, her tone not entirely convinced, “Although I am reluctant to have guns around my business… who knows how extreme these people are, or how bad it will be next time…”
Next time could be worse, if there was a next time.
And it was better to have guns and never need them, rather than to not have them and be caught unaware. Teruko touched a hand to the side of her muzzle, a frown creasing her expression.
“Is it… obvious… that they’re toting guns?” Teruko inquired, gesturing vaguely at her chest-area as if to suggest a chest-holster, where a gun would be in plain sight. Appearance was everything, after all. Additionally,
“Also... what other protocols do security at level two follow? What services are expected?”
In other words, what hours did they work, what services did they provide? Sure, they had guns, but—what were other reasonable expectations for Teruko to have of them? (Would she have to worry about prying eyes seeing her when she did vigilante patrols?)
It was also intriguing that Shodo’s company made the guns that their employees used—but she’d table that question for a more natural part of the conversation.

"Oh, thank you." Shodo would sit down as a sign of kindness. Just as expected, she'd choose the second option. While first one was the most popular, with the rising level of crimes it was always best to be sure. Just as she said, who know if they actually wanted to do more then simple breaking the window? "Normally they're dressed as security guards so yes, guns are seen." Shodo didn't thought about that being a problem. But now he was thinking again... This was bakery. In this kind of business security guards sitting at corner would not only be an annoyance to customers and the employees but also it could scare people. Stroking his chin for a second Shodo tried to come up with a solution to this problem. "We can dress them as employees here... They might not be able to help you with all the baking but they can at least clean the store, or act like cleaning it... They can also hide their guns inside their suits this way... What do you say?" This was not normal business model they followed but Shodo was willing to make exception for this once just for the sake of this lady. A bakery being targeted was a sign of how terrible the times are and he was going to protect as much as people possible. Also he was sure that whoever he decided to send would have nice time here. After all they were going to work at bakery as civilians. It was way better then guarding a school or some other building.
"Other services?" Shodo was surprised. Did she wanted more? What exactly was she asking? This was the first time someone mentioned this kind of thing... "They will work at whatever hour you want them to work at... other than that... I'm not sure what exactly you want to learn. If you have a special need we can try to provide that."

forcing the hand TERUKO NODDED ATTENTIVELY AS THE MAN spoke, clasping her hands before her. She found herself falling into a persona of her younger years, the polished demeanor of an actress who was being interviewed on live television. Serene. Unconcerned. In-control.
Internally, however, a nervousness whirled in her chest. Gun-toting security guards, at a family restaurant? Sure, periodically there were armed guards at banks, but not a low-profile place like hers. What kind of image would that give her business? Like it was some sort of criminal den? Unsafe to eat at?
(If one wanted to get technical, vigilantism was criminal… but she wasn’t thinking in that frame of mind.)
“Ah, they don’t need to dress in the company uniform,” Teruko said hastily, smiling amicably, “Candy-striped aprons are, perhaps, not befitting for a security detail.”
She exhaled sharply, amused and disconcerted at the idea of gun-toting waiters. It certainly brought a… peculiar dichotomy to mind.
“Hiding it in their suit would be preferable,” Teruko insisted, bowing her head, “Please. I don’t want people to think my business is… dangerous? Especially in a quiet place like this.”
When Shodo met her question, Teruko realized that she’d been misunderstood. Oh dear--
“Ah, forgive me,” Teruko said quickly, flapping a hand dismissively in front of her snout, “I was unclear. This… is the first time I’ve hired… security guards. So I am… unfamiliar with how they might conduct themselves. I don’t know what they do, or are allowed to do, contractually.”
So, for example, would they stop thieves? Patrol the perimeter? Use lethal force? Or were they more… meant to be seen, not actually interacted with? Did they interact with patrons outside of keeping the riffraff out?

"Whatever you wish, Lady Serizawa." He was just offering her possibility and she was right that it would not fit them. He would help his customer in any way he can so their wishes were the highest priority. "Yes, it's fine. Normally we do not offer this kind of service anyway. I just thought you might not like the idea of dressed up security personal in your bakery. Seems like my idea was even worse. Please forgive me." Bowing down he would apologize for his thoughtlessness. Once he get back up he would meet with another misunderstanding. What was the problem here? He never did so many mistakes before. Was his mind stuck on Chisa? Is that why he was making all this mistakes? Or was it because Chisa was always with him and helped him in the past, now he was seeing how useless he is on his own? "Keep it together, Shodo!" After trying to give a wake up call to himself, he would listen his customer very carefully to not make any mistake again.
"Oh, i see what was your question now. Please pardon me for misunderstanding it." Good going... Good going, Shodo! "They do not have a license to use excessive force. They can only disarm the aggressor and handcuff him. When they use their guns, which usually does not happen, they will use it to not inflict fatal wound but to neutralize the opponent. They'll protect the bakery against any kind of attack, including shoplifting, arson or any kind of aggression happening in the bakery such as fighting or loud customers. Of course if there is an extra thing you want them to do we can talk about it to see if it is possible. They're going to be under your orders, as long as those orders do not conflict with law and our work ethic. I hope this answer your questions." In his mind, this was a very good answer that Chisa would be proud. That's why he was happy with himself. He hoped Miss Serizawa would also be happy with it.

FORCING THE HAND TERUKO WAS EVER-POLITE as she interacted with Shodo, flapping an apologetic yet somehow dismissive hand as he apologized for the proposal.
“No offense taken, there’s nothing to forgive,” she said mildly, her tone taking-on a sort of breathiness, “I appreciate the accommodations that you’re providing, or offering to provide.”
It called to mind her days of fame, whereupon Teruko would be invited to daytime t.v. programs for interviews or features, and would speak in similarly stilted, dulcet tones. There was a sort of simmering awkwardness in exchanges such as that. But, like any professional, Teruko did her best to power through them.
And, thankfully, it seemed that the kaiju was able to clearly articulate her confusion, and elicit further explanation. She listened to Shodo with hands folded on her lap, crossed at the wrists. They would disarm or neutralize anyone that posed a threat, and protect the bakery. Well… that sounded like precisely what she was looking for.
“That sounds perfect,” the woman lauded Shodo’s explanation, her golden eyes glinting with delight, “So… what would our next steps be, Shodo-san?”
A tour of the establishment, perhaps? Discussing rates? She realized, once again, that the gaps in her knowledge made it difficult to anticipate what the security professional might want from her.
