"Dammit, dammit, dammit...!" "And stay out! Maybe you should think about starting lifting, if you wanna have hideout, am I right fellas?!" A burst of laughter rang behind Ed, as he stumbled forwards, running like he was on frog legs, with quick hops. His other eye was starting to bruise, as he glared panically through its almost closed eyelids for a way to safety. However, he occasionally had to stop for a breather, clutching his chest, also giving time for his family of frogs to catch up to him. "CROAK! Krrrrrrr! KWAK!" He croaked, as he perked his ears. From the distance he could hear couple of frog cries... although there was again one less seemingly. "Sigh, gotta keep moving... Gotta find a better place to hide! Hang on, Rosita!" The chunky frog on his head just croaked in a disgruntled fashion.
How had it come to this? It had literally been only a week, and almost all of his dedicated hideyholes had been taken by new owners, villains he had never even seen before! He had seen on tv the weird announcement. Maybe he had been a little bit too complacent? These brutes were pretty much like savage, in that they all had gangs of their own, and they were big dumb idiots who thought they were better than him! ...And without savage, Jean and the others it really felt that way. How many had his frogs been able to knockout? 5 or so? yet there was always that one guy who in the end reached him and could punch him in the face... And after that, it was a downward slope into being crushed underfoot...
For now, he ignored these depressing thoughts, as seemingly one of the frogs he had contacted had found a place... Not exactly the greatest sort, but it had to do for now. It was under a moderately small bridge on the outskirts of Kabukicho. One of the places to connect the different parts of the city. As he made it over with his little bunch of toads, he noticed, that it was an entrance to the sewers... Ed Grimaced. But for now, he probably didn't need to get in there too deep atleast. As much as he was a frog, he was still a man. He did like moist places, but not exactly the bacteria filled disgusting swamps or that sort of places. He couldn't live in lakes muddy bottoms either... although he really wished he could just sleep over this.
"Now, ninós, senoritas... KrrrrrrrrrOAK!" Once again, a simple command. The frogs started moving, croaking in their own words the commands, telling other frogs in range about it... Eds quirks strength was how he didn't really have to maintain it as much as many others would. While he could in combat only control about 12 frogs at once, he could leave more frogs around the place. These frogs pretty much allowed him to hear a lot of casual talks around town. For now, most of them were pretty much just handled like sentries, or guards, to make sure nobody was planning to attack him, with most of them being in a rough line, where they could hear each other and say the things they needed to the next one. The fact that they were conspicuous and small enough, that they would be ignored by any layman, also helped. I mean, who else would think a frog croaking would mean anything?
For now, the command was to find some place for supplies. Something to bandage himself up with. Atleast he was stable. No bleeding or anything like that. Just some VERY painful and annoying bruises. He lifted Rosita off of his head, and lifted her up and down like weighing a baby. "Atleast you are eating well... You cutie pie~!" He pressed his nose against the chunky frog, and rubbed his face against it, the frog struggling against it. He lowered it against his lap, and started stroking it like anyone would a regular cat. "Still haven't seen any frogs catch your eye? You are starting to reach quite an old age at this point..." Oldest of his frogs still alive that is. She was the only one still alive from the time he left spain. Almost like a little trinket off that time of his life.

Business was quiet today, but who was Marceline to complain. If things were quiet, all it did was speak to her talent at the end of the day. No one was onto her, no one was seaking retributions for a faulty product or a mistake in one of her counterfeits, and thanks to her laundering money through the system her cafes were all doing quite fine. In all honesty she should just be enjoying this. Heck thanks to the recent repairs she had to make to several of her café’s on the side of Tokyo closest to the latest prison outbreak, she was almost rolling in it as the repairs managed to allow her to run a lot more of her dirty money through the expenses.
Yet… it left her bored.
Part of the reason she’d came to Japan was the desire to up her game a bit. Play in bigger leagues with bigger risks but… here she was, just sitting back with an almost depressed sigh in the back room of one of her café’s, pretending to look over expense reports that weren’t even relevant at the end of the day and sinking deeper into her seat. She needed to spice things up a bit… maybe she’d try and arrange a meeting with that Ishtar woman. She seemed to be a big player in Japan and it’d do her well to forge contacts like that… Maybe Thunder. A little more risky but he seemed to be in the more… dangerous side of Japan’s criminal underworld. If she wanted to make things more interesting…
KrrrrrOAK
“… What?”
Marcie rose from her seat, looking to the open window she’d left for a bit of a breeze and taking cautious steps towards it. See Marcie was used to the sounds of nature… but the natural ones. This specific café was her usual resting point when looking over the business, so to hear a frog croak in the back of a Tokyo alleyway? Far from natural. Far. Briefly she thought she was imagining things but before she even reached the window she heard another croak, confirming she wasn’t just going crazy. Her amber gaze peered about the edge of her window, spotting the small group of frogs lingering outside her window, she’d say… about three, in a semi circle, briefly just… flexing their throat sacks at eachother before turning their gaze towards her window. Following their gaze they seemed to be looking at the first aid pack she kept in the backroom of all her establishments…
Briefly she considered ‘oh, its green, they’re green, stupid things must think it’s a frog’ but… that didn’t sit right. Marcie stepped into view, and the creatures backed off, scattering down the back alleyway. On a hunch, Marcie continued over to her first aid pack and slowly leaned over outside of her window, placing the first aid pack on the ground and leaning her folded arms on the window sill. It took a moment, maybe a full minute, but slowly they returned to the pack. From the way they pressed into it they seemed to even be testing if they could move it themselves, only for Marcie to snatch the handle again, cautiously climbing out her window, careful not to step on any of them.
She looked down to the frogs. They were smart. More than most animals at least, and they needed this for some reason. She didn’t expect them to understand language, and so she gestured for them to lead on, holding the pack as she followed behind, calling back to her Café to remind them to use the emergency first aid kit under the counter just incase anything should happen.
Eventually, a long walk away from her Café, Marceline would find the frogs guiding her to some sort of bridge, easing herself down the flood walls either side of the river and down to the little path that would run under the bridge, hoisting the pack over her shoulder and glancing about, careful but… definitely intrigued. “Hellooooo? I’m gonna sound insane but I was led here by a gang of frogs…” God that did sound insane when she said it out loud didn’t it? But all the same, she was intrigued...~

A little while passed. Ed slowly stopped caressing Rosita, instead perking up his ears... Problem about relying on frogs, was that you had to hear them speak yourself. They might have been smart enough to know what was happening around them, but teaching them to use headsets or the like would have made them way less stealthy. That, and how would he buy that many headsets with his budget? The risks were just too great. Besides... Nobody else understood them, so all he needed to do, was catch the ribbit flying through the air to get what the message was. And then, it was all up to him how he put it to use.
Soon enough, He could hear plenty of croaking... "Aaaah, Huey, dewey and louey. Glad to see they have not split up yet." Ed had named pretty much all the frogs with something that was on his mind at the time. Since this trio had been born at the same time, he had gotten a little lazy at naming them. And since then, they had pretty much hung out together. Ed supposed, that they were just nervous about going off on their own, or feared some bird snatching them. The croaks however, were clearly an answer to his call... "A medkit, huh? Perfecto. But, where... inside? Ugh..." He scratched his other eye gently. If it was inside, he would need to go and grab it himself... poor frogs weren't exactly stealthy enough to do it on their-
"Huh? they got it?" Darn, had they gotten brave? Any establishment would probably try and kill them, if they saw them... maybe he should utter some sort of retreat command. Besides, it was not like they could carry the thing back. They were made of flimsy stuff. But there were three voices. Luckily the thing hadn't fallen on any of them. Maybe he could go and grab it himself. Something outside could just be called an accident...
Ed's eyes widened all of a sudden, as Rosita hopped off of his lap. "W-wait... A nice lady? Helping you!?" Ed bit his lip! How many times had he told them that they should NOT work with strangers!? Oh darn it, now they are probably walking her right to him!? He was not ready for a fight! He was tired, and bruised! Okay, how far were they!? Maybe he could just tell them to attack her, and then he could run, grab the medkit, and move to somewhere else! Mistakes like this happen! He could still...
“Hellooooo? I’m gonna sound insane but I was led here by a gang of frogs…” And there she stood. Ed was panically standing up just in front of the sewer entrance, as he turned to look at the girl the 3 innocent frogs had pulled to him, now happily croaking about their successful mission. His eyes scanned her quickly, trying to see if she was dangerous...
Before he had to hold a little sigh out of relief. Eh, she looked like a typical bimbo... what did they call em, Kiero? No, Gyaru. Admittedly, it seemed semi possible she had followed the frogs just out of curiosity... Maybe she was still foolable? "A-Aaaaah... a f-fellow frog enthusiast then?" His voice had a bit of a nervous tinge to it still however. His eyes had noticed one thing that made her entrance a little less innocent: The medkit. The girl had taken it with her... maybe she knew something. That the frogs were special. However, he tried to stay calm, and hide his slightly sweat-tinged hair, as he squatted near Rosita. "C-come closer! I am uh, a little hard of seeing currently!" He waved his hand towards her invitingly, with his black eye still clear to see.
"V-very cute creatures, if I say so myself. And way smarter than some dove or a duck..." He gently rubbed Rositas head with his finger. Almost trying to tell the girl to do the same. "They don't bite unless provoked, and they have no sharp parts to stab you with... perfect in simplicity and safety." Luckily, talking about frogs had always calmed him down a little bit. "That and if you feed them often enough, they can recognize your face, and come for food! Like a dog. Way better than a dog..." His biases he couldn't hide however.
"I assume that uh... that trio wanted a little extra. Guess I've been too NICE to them!" He grinned towards the frogs, with the frogs getting quiet all of a sudden, huddling closer to each other. "I apologize. But wildlife... sadly I can't control what they do... Hopefully my hobby isn't that problematic." He felt a little bit heartless referring to Rosita especially as just some wild frog, but in this case, it just felt necessary... that and humiliating, but he was used to dropping his pride to gutter as of late... BAH!

Marcie’s gaze eventually found the ‘pond-leader’ of these 3 little frogs that had lead her here, and suffice to say she was immediately intrigued. Visually he had clear indications of having a quirk of some kind or another and Marceline wasn’t about to judge someone on their looks alone, especially when they seemed to have a unique quirk such as this… did he control the frogs? Simply communicate with them? It was impossible to say without observing it more directly but… it seemed that frog boy was deciding to play dumb, or just play Marceline for a fool… should she play along? Take it as a sharp insult? She had a few tricks up her sleeve if she wanted to intimidate him in turn afterall…
No. No. She wouldn’t be his fool but… he seemed interesting. Useful perhaps. She wasn’t going to risk scaring him off. From his stuttering to the clear black eye it seemed he wasn’t in a position to fight and a bit jittery at that even, so she wouldn’t push him too hard or anything. She simply took a slow breath and started to stride over, clutching the med kit firmly should he try to make a grab for it.
“MMm. Quite. It’s almost like they knew exactly what you needed too… I mean it’s one thing for a frog to come to you for food, but to understand that you have an injury, AND understand the intricate human symbols that signify a first aid kit, or even-“ She started chuckling almost sarcastically at this point. “What that means in terms of fixing your injuries! And to do all that for food when they could JUST go out and latch onto some flies in a bog somewhere… hahaha…~”
The chuckles faded, and her expression shifted to something mildly cheeky but entirely calm, showing clearly her chuckles had been easily faked and she was entirely in control over herself in this given moment. “Yeah. They totally did that on their own. Very clever creatures.~”
Still, they both knew now (hopefully) the other wasn’t anything as simple as some random dim-wit who stumbled upon the other, so she cut to the chase somewhat. A hand raised up above her head and flicked about in a short circle, a halo forming above her head making no more than a very dim light that helped the rippling circle of energy seem more like a perfect circle to the naked eye perceiving it’s glow. With the flow of her hand the halo flowed over her body, sparking against her as it passed her hips and down her legs, a long skirt forming seemingly from the halo upon Marceline’s body, enough for it to cover her legs entirely as she came over to the squatting frog man, laying on the side of her hip to sit down and starting to unpack the first aid kit. “Now, you going to keep lying to me or will I get an honest answer if I ask how you got that black eye?~”

Marcie could probably feel Eds eyes latch onto her the moment she started walking towards him. There was tension in the air. If she did grab the frog, he could just leave and continue moving... with a medkit in hand. But, the moment the girl opened her mouth, and started clearly reading how obvious his plan was, Ed hopped backwards, pulling Rosita with him. It just showed his funky shaped legs even more. He didn't the interrupt the lady though, as she kept chuckling at him and his plan. His eyebrows lowered in annoyance, as he gritted his teeth, with the underside of his jaw lowly bulging. "Krrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...." The bulge vibrated with the sound emitted from it, like a loud murmur of a tiger telling her to stay away. The trio of frogs screeched in mild panic, as Rosita kept her cool.
"Clever enough to do things on their own." His face was cringing. The girl was either underestimating his frogs, or just insulting his performance. In either case, the frogs deserved a bit of defending. His loud rumbling undermouth kept going, as the girl pulled out seemingly her own quirk. A flash of light, running across her body, as her clothing changed. "Besides, we sneaky types need all the help we can get..." He didn't know what the quirk was capable of other than creating more clothes for her for now, but even a sillier fellow would know that this would allow her to hide herself easily. Camouflage in a flash, and what not. As the girl walked towards him, ed took steps back. "KRRRRRRrrrr..." And at this point, the trio of frogs proceeded to bounce. They hopped and sat near the girl. In that regard, this was a blessing in disguise: she had brought him a bit of a way to defend himself if things went a bit too far in the direction. "Don't get cocky, senoríta."
He proceeded to squat, as the lady proceeded to open the medkit and asked about the source of his black eye. He almost looked like a bit malformed chimpanzee, as he proceeded to cover it with his hand. The rumbling stopped however. Luckily for her, he was in the perfect mood to rant a little. Just to get it out of his system. "Unfair is what it is..." He licked his lips. "The fact that you can be completely oblivious about it all, while I need to keep it in my mind every day." His head tipped from side to side, like he was stretching it. "There is a LOT of villains, that I haven't seen before running around. Many people who people don't even talk about anymore. The sort of buggers who are immediately looking for somewhere to hide...!" Like an annoyed roar, he croaked loudly. "They keep taking places I live in, and kicking me out, and I am getting sick of it...! So many frogs have died just because these meatheads think that any hole they shove their heads in is their own!"
He forked through his hair with his his fingers, as he sat down proper, crossing his legs, almost relaxing his guard a little bit. Though his eyes were still locked onto her and the frogs around her. "All of this, is supposedly because of this weird new villain lady. Ishtar I think was her name. Made an announcement. Apparently she is recruiting or something. Typical stuff from newbies." He spat against the ground... before his gaze changed into something more befuddled.
"Admittedly, I would expect a girl like you to know about something like that." A slight insultive grin grew on his face. "You would look exactly like the sort of Nina, who just sits at a cafe all day sipping coffee and looking at her rolex, and then would hear something like this in the radio and end up sitting on a brick soon after." He chuckled. Guess he was trying to get a little bit back at her for being mean towards his frogs. that or prove, that he was just a little bit more clever than her in this case. Although he did lift his head for a moment. "But, who am I to talk. You are the nina who would follow three frogs for wanting the same human thing all of a sudden... That's pretty clever." Taking that some bigger organizations had needed to actually study where he went before and then sort of ambush him to get in contact with him, the girl had certainly done a funkier job at that... even more of a reason to keep an eye on her.

Seems she’d struck a raw nerve getting all sarcastic about the frogs, but no matter, at the very least it seemed to bring out a bit more of an honest tone in him, and Marceline’s smile work perk on one side in a sly smirk as he mentioned that sneaky types needed all the help they could get. She didn’t know if she was referring to both of them or using the ‘royal we’ but all the same she couldn’t help but agree. “Preaching to the choir there Vous grenouille.” She smirked a little more, as he gave a hint of what might be his native tongue she gave a hint of her own in turn, winking at him a little even, hoping he might find some comfort in the fact he was dealing with another foreigner to Japan. When the frogs hopped around her, she’d be about to reach to touch one, not the kind to be easily grossed out by such things, but her hand hesitated, pulling back. She wasn’t exactly a biology expert but she felt she remembered some documentary or another that said such creatures could be poisonous even to just touch, and as such she glanced to the frog-man. “Are they safe?” She asked, not showing much fear in the question.
As she took out the medical supplies, she wasn’t exactly a trained nurse or the like but she knew enough for some simple wound treatment, doing what was needed to disinfect any of the frog man’s wounds, or, letting him do so if he didn’t trust her to help, but she would make sure anything he needed was prepared before handing it to him. There wasn’t much she could do for the black eye beyond offering to go buy him some cold peas from a supermarket or something, but she’d more than happily do so after they’d had a bit of time to chat and she had time to learn more about who she was dealing with. From the sounds of things, the prison break out had ironically affected him too. Criminals looking for hideouts pushing him out of the places he thought were safe… at least, that’s how she assumed it was going. She may be misunderstanding as he was being just a little unclear as he ranted it out in an annoyed tone, though, she did have to resist a small laugh when he croaked. It was just mildly amusing.
“Well, without meaning to be rude what else do you expect from a bunch of low life criminals?” She teased idly, but remained calm, not wanting to insult him or be rude about the matter that was clearly leaving him in a rough state mentally and physically, but it was a fair point to be made all the same, idly treating, or helping treat any wounds he had as they spoke. “Honestly though I can understand the frustration. Another person moving in on your ‘turf’ is one thing, but to actually try and force you out of a place you call home? Despicable. I certainly hope you’ll find some of your old dens ‘evicted’ by those heroes by the time this all blows over. Afterall it’ll be even safer once the heroes have been there once, they won’t expect another criminal to fill the same space so soon after.”
At the mention of Ishtar, Marcies eyes perked up a little, scoffing a little as she recalled that broodcast interruption the villainess had sent out. “I’m not personally the kind for flashy call to arms like that… much like you I imagine I prefer to do my work in the shadows… plus, putting such chaos out there? She certainly hasn’t earned my interest all too quick…”
In truth, Ishtar had SOME of her interest just for her approach, but more in a morbid curiosity fashion. To be able to pull this off was IMMENSELY impressive but… to even want to pull it off… Marcie hoped she had some larger goal in mind rather than just sowing the seeds of chaos.
Then, frog man started talking about her, and Marcie’s amber gaze narrowed with a more annoyed little scowl. She was typically restrained in her expressions but the assumptions made here certainly weren’t… pleasant. She always hoped shave gave off a playful if still ‘high end’ air about her but… well. Seemed she needed to work on that. “I’m more one for counterfeits, if im honest.” She generated her halo again, but this time dragged it solely over her arm, smirking as a watch seemed to generate over her wrist. It seemed pretty indistinguishable from the idea of a rolex. It was still by no means ‘genuine’ but as Marcie had scanned such items in the past it was easy to make a replica. “I prefer to buy things that feel comfortable or actually look nice. Brand names don’t exactly interest me. Why spend ten thousand yen on a dress when you can get something just as good for a thousand, maybe 500 in a sale?~”
Of course, she still got a compliment in the end, and she smirked in turn. “And I’ll say using such small, unassuming creatures as spies across town is very clever in it’s own right… did I get your name, sorry?”

This ladies use of language got a raise of an eyebrow... french? It had been a while since he had heard it. Admittedly, there was nothing really special about people from other countries, but it was still surprisingly a calming tone. Although, they ate frog legs. Barbarians. A surprisingly tense moment came, when the girl proceeded to reach out downwards towards one of his frogs, only to look at him and ask if they were 'safe'. Ed perked his lips, before a calm "Fffffff...fufufufuhahahahahaha!" escaped them. He still wasn't sure if the girl was as clever as he gave them credit for, but at this point lying just felt a bit too obvious. "I appreciate you thinking I would already allow my ninos close to you without some sort of defense." With that calmness, he walked closer, and took off his vest... bruises and moderate cuts all about his body. no major bleeding, but painful all the same. "Their poison pretty much puts your muscles to sleep for a while. Very effective if they come in contact with anything. Besides, if you do anything bad to me... they'll give it to you in kind. Safety measures, and what not." Also, since the girl knew he was a villain... knocking her out at this point was pointless. She could just call the cops on him afterwards.
They were pretty much the main assurance he needed to allow himself to be helped by this lady so casually. "I am not poisonous though. So no worries in that." It didn't mean he felt comfortable though. Cold peas to the eye would make any frog flinch or fall asleep. Ed himself had never really liked the cold. Any bandages and what not also were very uncomfortable.
"kero, kero, kero!" He let out in minor pain, as the girl proceeded to taunt her whilst fixing him up. "Cierto..." However, with the girl talking about 'heroes' evicting the new villains to the block, Ed just cringed harder. "Bah! Heroes just mean I need to stay away from those places even longer!" He lifted his arms to the side like a shrug. "The saying 'criminals always return to the crime scene' exists for a reason..." If heroes knew about the places, they were pretty much 'tainted'. Anytime they would need to look into something, they could just go to them, and check, if there were any sort of hints of life, and bam, he would be recognized and soon in jail! "None of those places are safe anymore, if they find something even once there!"
Talking of ishtar just made him even more sour. To him, her tactics felt very amateurish. "It's called 'going up too fast'. Any Torre built that quickly can't hold it's weight. And with an announcement like that, she has pretty much invited an army of ducks to slam into it to help with that, with the pile of lemmings she has invited to run inside." The way he was talking about Ishtar might have come off as 'an old man yelling at the juniors for not doing their things right', and having done things for a while, he felt justified. Especially, cause he had been part of one of these 'towers'. He had been invited into a crew to take on the whole world, and then one day it all just crashed and burned without his input. He could do nothing to help or alleviate it. And now... he felt smarter than that. Smart like this girl here. Staying in shadows. "If you or me would do something like this, we would be trampled instantly. Thankfully, we don't need to to be effective!" ...well, Ed had been in a slump for ages. But he really didn't wanna look down on himself.
However, Eds mood changed almost instantly, as the girl proceeded to show her quirk to him. "Ooh..." He waggled his fingers, as he glared at the clock he had just joked about her having. Apparently, her quirk wasn't just about disguises, it was counterfeiting too. Just seeing the quirk made him have a bit of a nostalgia streak. Just remembering watching Jean studying quirks like this to find use for them. "To have a quirk like that... I wouldn't need to worry about the cold, or money ever again, hehe." Sometimes, life was unfair. "Although admittedly... most of us become crooks BECAUSE we want that stuff for free. Not for a discount. But, that's a risk I do not want to take." Ed was convinced last winter would have been even worse if he had decided to steal something like that for himself during it. "Besides, food is more important, when you have a lot of mouths to feed." Only good thing about winter: Most of his frogs were asleep, so he didn't need to worry about them.
The girls praise made Ed grin a little. But her next question reminded him, how different they were. "You REALLY are the socializing type of villain, aren't ya? Giving names willynilly, and still asking me first, before giving yours." He was thoughtful... Should he give his name? Eh, it's not like his name was exactly known. Savage and Jean were the usual faces of the operations back then. What could it hurt? "...Call me 'Ed'. Although I bet most of the folks would just call me a crook, so may as well use that." That, and it did leave his full name still a mystery. Not that he had used it in ages. Savage thought 'Eduardo' was too hard to pronounce.
"But yeah, if curiosity was the only thing that made you want to find me, I would prefer if you go as soon as possible." With his wounds slowly patched up, he leaned towards the girl. "And I think we both know good enough to not tell anyone about each other, right? Villains code of honor, if that even exists?" Ed was almost a little bit too excited to be left alone again.

“Oooo. Allow huh?” She teased idly, careful not to touch the frogs afterall and instead focusing on the first aid kit. The laughter wasn’t something she really appreciated but if the frog man even wanted to attempt to pretend the frogs were still just clever little pets he was going about it the wrong way, letting slip he seemed to exert some sense of control over them. While Marcie wouldn’t be able to say for sure if such small creatures could truly be intelligent, she also heavily doubted that they’d be able to follow orders to stay away from her to the level of say, a trained dog or the like, so hearing that he seemed to have some control over their actions gave Marcie more information as to what this man’s quirk potentially was… to control frogs huh? Poisonous ones at that apparently. Very interesting…~ “Well one can never be too careful I suppose. I mean I’m certainly being at least somewhat cautious even coming here. A few safety measures in place here or there should I not return to the office and all that…~” And that’s all she’d say. She did have smallll cautions she could rely on, but nothing the frog man should really worry about. Best to keep it vague and let his imagination or paranoia do the work for her.
“Good to know I can handle you though.~” She offered with a mildly sly wink, wondering how they’d react to what could possibly be taken as a flirty comment, though it was moreso to mess with them and provoke a reaction than anything serious.~
As she listened to him complain about how the hero presence would just make things more dangerous, Marcie couldn’t help but mildly disagree. “Well I mean, they can’t scout those places out forever. Sure they know about them but after so long they’ll have to move their resources elsewhere. Besides, someone as sneaky and clever as you who’s able to use these sneaky little spies? I’m sure you’d be able to figure out when those pro hero lot have moved onto their next project and your hidey holes become safe again.” She shrugged casually with a smirk. “On the other hand, maybe consider it motivation to find somewhere even other criminals won’t be able to sniff out.~”
At the words that Ishtar could be setting herself up for a fall… Marcie had to admit, the frog man had a point. Sure she’d like to see where this goes, what entertainment it could bring, but it definitely had the makings of a horrendous fall from grace to say the least. She did raise her brow however as she was told she ‘didn’t need to be effective’, unsure if that was meant to be a compliment or an insult. “Excuse’ mwa? Ineffective am I? Well I mean, if my first aid kit is ineffective too I suppose I can just take it elsewhere…”
Still, she’d remain at least to talk about their quirks despite the potential offense, smirking as her quirk actually did seem to receive some praise and impressed sounds from the frog man before her, Marcie idly toying with the fake watch, ticking just a miniscule beat off each second that past ultimately meaning it would be a bit slow. Visually it was perfect, but the complex inner clockwork… she couldn’t replicate that even after scanning true Rolexes. She sighed in annoyance with that… maybe one day, but for now she ran the halo over her wrist again, the watch seeming to vaporize into her halo. Something she could only do to inanimate objects of course, and even then, mostly only things she herself had created, as they seemed almost designed by her quirk to be pulled apart as such. “It’s definitely good for clothes I suppose, but it’s hardly ‘deadly’ like a lot of villainous quirks… but I’m definitely more partial to it than, say, breathing fire or something trivial like that. Besides.” She swirled her wrist, the halo forming and hovering above her head, tipping with her as she tipped to the side, sticking a finger against her cheek. “I think it makes me look quite adorable, don’t you?~”
Given the young man’s name, Marcie offered a gentle smile and rested a hand to her own chest. She briefly considered giving an alias but… well, it would be easy enough for anyone to find her ‘real name’ and still not get her in trouble if she played her cards right, and she felt assured she played her cards quite excellently. “Marceline Labelle. If you ever see a ‘labelle café’, that’s my establishment.~” She offered for a bit more honesty in their situation, starting to rise to her feet, a descending halo over her body replacing the skirt with the pants she’d been wearing a moment ago, not about to walk out of here in such filthy attire, listening to Ed suggest she get going.
“You know… I wouldn’t mind making a disguise for you? I own a floor above one of my café’s for a bit of a rest-pit when I’m doing the rounds on my business, but if you like, I wouldn’t mind letting you stay there? At least till the streets calm down and you can find something more permanent.~” She rested a hand on her chest, bowing over. “Thieves honor and all that, we have to look out for eachother where we can…~”

Ed was surprisingly calm about the fact, that the girl was talking about her own little precautions in front of him. Perhaps it was just the fact, that he felt like he was in control. If she DID do something, the frogs would handle her, and he could just back off with whatever small wound he had later. The implication she gave off, was that people would start looking for her if something happened to her though... Oh well. It's not like he would kill her. Although briefest flash of the thought went through his mind, when the joke about being allowed to 'handle' him was brought up. "I consider myself lucky medkits don't exactly come with proper scalpels..." He was annoyed enough when Jean always wanted to dissect his frogs, never mind himself. Atleast that nuisance had ended with the crew. It just reminded him that he should be still wary, even as nice as the lady was.
Ed briefly scoffed at the prospect, that he was overreacting. He was the one who had lived outside for a long time. But for a moment after, he went quiet, aside from ruminating rumbles of his underjaw. Police spending materials to spy on tons of places with just a potential of being a hidey hole would be insanely pricy. Meanwhile, his frogs could just live wherever he wanted them to spy at... "I guess you do have a point." He rubbed heweys non existant neck gently with his fingers, like tickling a pet. The frog ribbited happily. "Whatever the case, it's gonna take a lot of work to get them back. And I can't even start it yet." The frog gripped onto his hand, as he quickly shook it off back onto the ground. "Kerokerobit." A small command. 'no more before lady gone.' Hewey looked a little disappointed.
The effectiveness of both of them was clearly a bit of a question in her head. Ed chuckled again. The way she scoffed, and was almost ready to deny this help of hers, Ed clearly had struck a nerve. Fun in it's own right. Although it definitely wasn't what he meant. Heck, the girl seemed proud to strut her stuff according to her own words, so it was a little confusing she was that ready to snap and give up on the whole thing. "I think you yourself know what I meant." He smiled like a cheshire cat. "We don't need to grab peoples attention like a dang lighthouse in the middle of the ocean to be successful! And the less we are known about, the more certainly we can avoid the fall! You catch my drift? We work in the shadows, and never really need to worry about being recognized or grabbed!" Of course, this was a viewpoint he himself was accustomed to. The less people knew about his ability and his existence, the better for everybody involved.
In Marcelines case however, the question was a little bit more complicated. As the girl switched clothes, Ed soon stood up as well. "Reason why I said, that we stealthy types need to stick together..." He nodded, as the frogs seemingly calmed down, with the situation over. "If I slipped that your things would be forgeries, all what you would sell would go under high scrutiny." In that regard, they both had a weapon against each other, just cause they showed these aspects to each other. "However... coffee is coffee..." He hadn't exactly slept in a long time, so having one place to enjoy a drink at would be nice.
However, the moment the girl offered to make him a disguise and an outright hiding place, Eds eyes narrowed and the smile turned more neutral, as he lifted an eyebrow. He had already gotten help from her once, and now she seemed to be leaning into his own words. And like they say, third time was the charm. His suspicion sparked. "With all due respect and honor... you are being a little bit TOO majo to a stranger who knows a little about you!" His paranoia hit hard. She was simply too damn nice. "How do I not know you will put a tracker in that coat? And how do I know you won't immediately throw me to the police after I start living in your attic? I might not be as big of a villain as I used to be, but I am still worth something!" Healing was a very different sort of thing. He could easily check his body for anything weird afterwards. Heck, his frogs had been watching her moves. This was pretty much her changing the area to be to her advantage.
"Either that, or you are trying to make me indebted to you!" He leapt backwards, to get a little bit of distance, as the frogs did the same. "Though why, I have no clue." He shrugged and shook his head. "How about you just tell me, what you are aiming at here, before I go being all alegro?" He couldn't be happy and content with all the offers, before he knew, why she was so happy to offer all this.

Marcie couldn’t help but chuckle at his comment about the scalpels, shrugging with a mild smirk and shaking her head. “I suppose so… then again you’ve seen me make a watch with my quirk… who’s to say I can’t make a simple bit of sharp metal.~” She winked but playfully so, clearly not meaning to pose a thread and just playing along with their back and forth, continuing to try and help Eduardo with his wounds before packing away the excess supplies. Not to self, get the first aid kit as the main Tokyo branch replaced just incase he was poisonous…
Marcie’s eyes drifted to the frog he was giving such gentle attention, smirking quietly and admiring how he cared for them, but clearly still drawing a line as needed. It also let her know if the frogs were poisonous he was clearly immune to them, he may have handled them similarly before but it just cemented in her memory the nature of his quirk at the very least. “Your very caring with them… if I may say you seem oddly gentle for someone with such… criminal implications in their words.” She teased idly, not meaning to insult, just… commenting on the nature of his gentle touches with the frogs. “Whatever the case, I’m sure you’ll find your hidey holes are free again before you know it.”
His save on the supposed compliment had her smiling, seemed he had a way with words too to some extent, and she appreciated the sentiment in relation to how she used her own talents. Personally, in the civilian world at least, she did like some eyes on her but… as a criminal? No, the exact opposite. The less people to ever know her face the better. What good were her talents afterall if she ended up locked up? “Fair, fair…~ I will say I don’t know what your ‘game’ is as of yet but… with these little friends, I’m sure you play it very well.~”
Dusting herself off as she rose off the floor, Marcie glanced to Eduardo as he seemed to be calling her out for being so nice. She briefly considered asking him if he could really be so choosy in his current situation, but he did have a good head on his shoulders to be so suspicious. She folded her arms and thought how to answer… shaking her head as she smiled warmly. “No… no debts. I’m not so shallow and I get by just fine on my own merit but… well. I don’t believe in direct debts or I O Us, but I do believe in being in someone’s good books.~ You seem like an interesting… perhaps even talented little fellow. To earn some trust and good merit with you would definitely not be something I’d be opposed to… and really what would it cost me?~ Unused space above one of my businesses? And since you want to hide too the risk would be minimal…”
She rose an arm and sweeped it in a circle, her halo formed above her head, but with a spreading of her fingers it grew outward till it was wide enough to engulf them both if she were to lower it.
“The choice is yours in the end. The offer is given… if it is too good to be true to you just take a step back and I will leave silently… but if you want a place to stay, however temporary… well, you can hardly walk so boldly out in the open without a disguise now can you?~” She readied herself to bring the halo down, but gave the man full power in his ability to make a choice here.

Ed lifted an eyebrow at the girls musings about him being so nice with his frogs. "Anyone would be to someone as close to them as they are to me..." His eyes turned towards Rosita apologetically for a moment, before he continued. "I think anybody would treat their cat or dog in the same fashion. I just have always felt a little bit closer to frogs, than people. No risk of betrayal from them, si?" Referring to his family as pets. Ugh, Ed could almost feel a bit of puke growing in his throat. All the things he would need to say to keep some of his stuff a secret. In the end however she was right in how she worded it. "Indeed. They play it very well!" Hopefully that was enough of a praise to work as an apology.
The ladies assurances that she didn't expect anything for her services however made Ed just more so suspicious. "A minimal risk to you, that is." As much as he liked her, he couldn't bring himself to trust her comments about doing this just cause she could use a connection with someone like him. Somebody useful. Kind of like Savage and all the others. But this time, he was getting something concrete in return. Was he being too careful? Or was it just something good he needed right this very moment? It really seemed too good to be true. And as the girl proceeded to widen the ring on her head to be able to engulf both of them, Ed took an animalistic step back instinctively. It was like a big gamble. If he stepped in this, she could probably wrap him up like a huge christmas present, and give him to the authorities. Or she could just give him the clothes...
Wait a minute, that's it. Ed looked in Marcies direction, with a questioning look. "Couldn't you just make the camouflage on yourself, take it off and give it to me, instead of needing to pass this thing over me?" A compromise. Something that would make the end result probably a bit worse, but didn't include the risk of getting betrayed. That and it should be easy for her to do. "I can take care of the fine tuning myself, if that's what it takes..." However it was still a free thing that he really needed. That, and if she was insistent on getting the thing scanned over him, it would prove that she had something in mind for him.
However, in the case of free housing, Ed gave a little bit more thought. "I will come for coffee often. And I will appreciate it if you keep the window open for me." He would make it a desperate measure. If he was ever wounded, or chased, he could hide there, and wait till the situation calmed down. "I will trust that you won't leave me any traps in there. Although, I might get one of my frogs to make sure that it's a safe place to come in to." A frog to make sure the place was hospitable. Simple precaution. For this situation, those were his conditions. Although, it would put the frog at risk... Well, he could discuss it with whoever he put to the job later.
"Would that be alright with you? Sometimes a frog climbing into your attic? You would never see me, unless you specifically wanted to." Handy thing about the frogs. They could contact him too if they were in danger. And in the end, it truly did feel like Ed had finally come up with a solution he himself was alright with. "Deal?" And even then, he kept his distance from the halos range. It was scary.

Marcie smirked a little at his initial retort, shrugging it off as a comment. “You asked why I’m offering. I don’t have to justify why you should take the offer, only why I’m giving it.~” She returned with a sly smile… and in truth that was a good part of how Marcie made her choices. Selfish as it was, forming trust with other criminals, choosing…’fun’ options, it was all about the risk to her. She could be offering Eduardo a death trap for all she really knew, she hadn’t thought it out from his point of view, but at the end of the day she’d be fine, so why not at least offer?
She tipped her head to the side as he asked if she could just give him the clothes, chuckling a little and nodding. “I suppose that is possible but I was more offering it like this to-“ She pulled in the ring so it only covered herself, and slowly let it flow over her body. The tendrels of sparks coming from the halo coated her body but… unlike before where a watch appeared on her wrist, this seemed like it was changing her almost entirely, as if someone else was flowing out of the other end of the halo as it flowed down her form. Her hair took on a slightly ‘spikier’ style and turned a brilliant, natural looking blonde, the features of her face subtly changing, still a young woman but less smooth finesse and more a ‘spunky youth’ appeal to it, the kind you could see going out clubbing. The rest of her attire was covered by a long trench coat and a matching trillbilly. “Give you the next level of disguise… but sure, if you don’t trust me…~” She took off the trench coat and hat, offering them across. There was no… ‘seam’ to the disguise, the features on her face seeming mostly genuine with just the faintest sense something was off if you really forced yourself to look for it, and flowed down into the rest of her body like it was entirely natural. With another drag of her halo over herself, she was back to normal, and Eduardo had a disguise to walk through the city in. “That should do you, I imagine?~”
As he talked more about the offer to house himself in one of her attics, she shrugged fairly casually as he took some natural precautions on the matter. “Just follow me when we leave, keep your distance if you like, or just tell your frogs to follow me so they can show you the way, I don’t mind at all… beyond that I’ll keep the window unlocked and let you make your way there whenever you need the roof over your head. If I say so myself we also do fantastic coffee should that be something you enjoy.~”
And finally, with the offering of a deal, she decided to offer some trust and offered her hand across directly, with no gauze or cotton swap or medical instrument between them, trusting that if this man could unleash some poison on her, they’d come to enough of an agreement for him not to do so. “Deal.~”

Ed in comparison to Marcie, was pretty much the sort of person to choose 'the safest' option each time. He didn't want to risk losing himself or any of his frogs to anything. So, in this case, making it perhaps a bit harder for this weirdly trusting benefactor, was worth it in his eyes. In the end, the girl proved she could indeed turn into someone completely different in front of his very eyes, as she gave him a simple trillbilly and a trench coat. Ed however proceeded to miss the girls maybe a little bit untrustworthy gaze, as he proceeded to immediately poke every single part of the fabric of both of the clothes. For now, it seemed like she had not put anything on them... and thus, Ed put it on a little begrudgingly. He scooped Rosita into the hat. "Hmmmm... good size." Then, he lifted some off the frogs of the ground, and put them in the inner pockets. "Bueno!" Ed liked the clothes for now. It would certainly be better than some raincoat off the streets.
Heck, the girl seemed alright with keeping her window open for him. In a city bustling with villains. "You are brave. A bit foolhardy maybe, but brave!" He chuckled. In the end, he felt like he had gotten the better deal out of this. And as the girl proceeded to push her hand in his direction, Ed proceeded to clap his hand in hers. "Deal indeed..."
As promised, Ed had followed Marcie to her establishment. At first, he had done nothing. Just informed, that he had seen it. But later on, Marcie would find this big chunky toad in the room, with a little letter. The toad was named 'Don'. To Ed, he was one of the lazier toads in his arsenal. It really didn't move much aside from finding food or sitting in the sun, or finding just a nice pool to sit in. However, it was loyal. Croaked back whenever Ed croaked. Of course, this was a risk. Ed didn't like risks. But Don ed was mildly alright to lose, since he wasn't exactly that good at defending others despite it's size. And besides, the risk involved was simple: if Don did see something weird, he would tell him. And if the frog was thrown out or disposed of (perish the thought), Ed would know he wasn't welcome. A simple, yet efficient plan.
Of course, Ed did ask how he was settling for the first week, with other frogs as middle men. Don didn't really like other visitors, and got quite grumpy about anybody cleaning the spiderwebs in the room. Guess the spiders were it's main source of nourishment. For a little while, Don just lived there. And nothing really special happened.
A couple of weeks later however, on a particularly rainy day, there was croaking again. Don let out a loud ribbit back. "Safe". 15 minutes passed, and soon, a figure in black clothing appeared. As soon as it came, it vanished, and soon, the window opened, with Ed rolling into the room quietly. Master climber as always, no visible tracks had been left on the wall. "Heee...! Heee...!" He unbuttoned the trench coat, as a bunch more frogs hopped out of it. "Darn coat, so hot to wear in this weather!" He took off his hat. Rosita was sitting in it a little bit annoyed. He had been running for quite a while. "Close the window! Close the window!" He ran to it and closed it, just as a gang of thugs got on the streets. "Where the hell did that guy run off to!?" "Eh, can't have gone too far! The guy looked too hefty and small legged to get anywhere!" The people ran around looking, as Ed could only giggle. "For once... Nobody died!" The frogs ribbited in unison, before ed pressed his index fingers on his lips and hushed.
Ed had once again lost a hiding spot. This time however, he had prioritized more on evacuating than actually fighting for it. His frogs tongues were long enough, that they could outright attack people out of the coat, which was really handy! However, now the coat was pretty much a hefty wet towel. Climbing with it and the frogs on him was exhausting. "Anyways... Whose hungry?" He pulled out a little canister. It was full of spiced insects. Edible for both the frogs and himself. Perfect power snack. As he sat on the bed and crossed his legs, starting to give each frog a bug... his eyes glared at the door.
...He had to be prepared to leave. This was exactly what he had assumed. Would Marceline throw him to the dogs now, that they were looking for him? He didn't know. "Krrrrrrrrr...?" He croaked towards Don. Don looked as if he had shrugged, but lacked the shoulders to do so. Ed shoveled bugs in his mouth. He had to prepare to run again. Just take comfort in the warmth for now. Honestly, it would probably be better if the girl didn't notice him at all.

Marcie had been... unnerved, a little, by the toad that had made it's home in the spare rooms above her cafe. She'd innitially rented out that space as well to maybe one day turn it into storage, or keep them as individual apartments to ensure she herself always had a place to stay wherever she was in the city, but to have it become the home for a toad was... oddly insulting. She knew why it was the case, of course, Eduardo needed to be sure this place remained safe for him. He probably had similar toads at all of his old hidey holes across the city and the outskirts to alert him should anything happen, this particular toad just looking out of place thanks to the cozy nature of the apartment above the cafe.
She of course had the only keys, and every now and then she'd check in, that same toad still there. After the first week or so she began leaving a small box of dried insects she'd gotten from the local pet store to give the creature a snack. She imagined it just hopped out the window whenever it needed to eat before but why not give it a bit of a treat once in a while. It mostly cared for itself otherwise of course, meaning Marcie somewhat forgot about it, only recalling it when she considered staying in the room herself after a long day of work, only to move on to her next little home away from home, or going all the way back to her pent house.
It was only a few weeks down the line that the room seemed to see any genuine use, and even then Marcie needed to be alert to put the dots together. Despite the fact her office in this building faced the alleyway, she still had a window should she need to make a hasty escape for whatever reason, so when a group of thugs staggered outside her window, seeming to have lost whoever they were chasing... and the creak of floorboards sounded above her head, Marcie hid a smirk behind her notepad, giving the goons outside her window a sharp glare, staring them down for a moment, putting on the facade of a business woman who just wasn't happy for the interuption or the distraction... and with their prey gone, the lot of them soon seemed to turn and leave, leaving Marcie to rise from her seat and head out to the main cafe area.
"Good day girls, everything going smoothly?" She'd ask, looking out to the quiet cafe area, the break time rush having just passed over leaving her employees some time to clean up their surfaces.
"Everythings going well Miss Labelle. Everything checking out fine with the books?"
Marceline giggled a little and nodded along. "We're still in profit if that's what your asking so don't worry. I know we still have trouble competing with Solar-bucks but you lot don't have to worry any time soon." Dipping into the Fridge, Marcie began to stack up a tray, two packaged sandwiches, two plates with a slice of cheesecake, a packet of crisps and two cups of coffee with milk and sugars on the side. "I'm going to be enjoying the company of an old friend upstairs. If we have anyone come in asking for me just tell them I'm in a meeting won't you? It's been some time since I've caught up with this fellow."
"O-oh of course Miss but... we didn't see anybody come in?" She'd ask curiously, the manager of this branch tilting her head, Marceline shrugging in turn.
"Guess he's just light on his feet. See you all later.~"
Rising up to the room, Marcie would balance the tray on a hand and knock on the door with the back of her knuckles before turning the key in the door, peeking inside cautiously, not wanting to be jumped while balancing two cups of coffee. "Eduardo deer...?" She'd let out, making sure she'd actually spotted him before speaking his name, offering a warm smile and revealing the tray of snacks and food as she closed the door behind her with her foot, walking over and pulling up a chair beside the mattress, laying the tray out on the bedside set of drawers and picking up her own cup and saucer, starting to make a rather milky coffee with plenty of sugars in it, preparing the bitterness to be drowned out by the sweetness of sugar.
"Seems your still 'on the run' so the speak... any more appreciative of my offer for this little hideaway now?~" She asked with a hint of smugness in her tone, smirking behind her cup as she took a sip, feeling she'd just seen an example of why Eduardo might wish to put some faith in her.

The brief moment of snacking was very much needed. Ed allowed himself to smile and chuckle as the little army of frogs happily croaked their thanks, although at a reasonable volume. However, oddly enough, Don was not taking part in the meal... come to think of it, the thing looked even chunkier than before. "Come on now... you've been doing a good job, you deserve a snack of your own." Ed walked up to the toad with fingers pincered into a hold over an unlucky cricket, as Don just sat there keeping an eye on the door. And then there was a creak! Ed leapt, and there was a loud *PLAT*, as his body entirely stuck on the wall! The frogs panicked, as they run under the bed, only for Ed to hear the voice of the person opening the door. The tone was exactly how he remembered... "Don't call me a dear if you don't mean it."
He cringed all sorts of annoyed, as the lady entered the room. She could probably see a bunch of glowing eyes under the bed, with weakish spooked ribbits echoing. It was like she had entered the driest swamp in her life. For a moment, Ed himself just observed, as Marcie made a cup of coffee with a whole lot of different stuff to make it less bitter. He tried to keep an eye out for any knockout pills or the like, but this far away, it was kind of hard to do. "Cro-Cro-Crakrak?" He asked. "did Don see the criminals still outside?" Don just stared at him, before its throat bulged. "Exited the scene, huh?" So, they weren't inside. Seemed like Marcie indeed had kept her side of the deal for now.
He still didn't appreciate her tone though. "Pfeh! If I had more of these I would have had plenty of other space!" However, the frog proceeded to climb down the wall, in complete silence. The slime on his body silenced the contact his body made with anything, which made it easy to both climb, and move quietly. He came over to the table, and took a cup... and proceeded to sniff it profusely. He even stuck his tongue, trying to taste, if there really was some knockout some agent, without taking too big of a doze of it. Instead however, his taste buds were hit by the delicious flavour of coffee beans. He closed his eyes, almost like a frog swallowing something good by pressing it down with their eyes... "But I will take the coffee as an apology for entering without permission." He took steps backwards, as he took a proper sip of the coffee... Ah, the brown goodness really hit the spot! He could feel his tired eyes opening already! "Krrrrrr, krrrrr, krrrr." His throat bulged, as he emitted something akin to a cat purring, with the frogs seemingly calming down, and coming out of their hideyhole. They proceeded to all croak a word or two at Marcie, before going closer to Ed. He however, wasn't considerate enough to translate.
"I have gotten couple of my hiding spots back. The criminals are slowly being captured and thrown back in jail." He said amidst all the sipping. "There are still some gangs about of course, with an extra level of desperation." The guy shuddered a bit. More because his body was warming up again after running in the rain. "It's surprisingly easy to leave a place instead of fighting for it." He took his spoon, and gave some coffee to Rosita. Rosita was unamused, so Ed just scooped it into his own mouth instead. "Although, the police decided to just make some of the hiding places collapse. so they are now unusable." Luckily the frogs were more often than not at the entrances.
"I assume you yourself have been just fine and dandy, sitting here, sipping this dark nectar all day." Despite him openly explaining his situation, it was still clear, that he had some bite at him. A little mix of jealousy and pettiness. He usually liked the rain, that was not the issue, but adding the good coffee into the whole thing just made him feel a little vein pounding on his head in annoyance.
