Amare would of traveled quite a bit of a distance to get to the restaurant that was hiring. He could not remember where he had saw the sign, it could of actually been one of his followers who sent it to him online. Showered and dressed in his Tuesday best, Amare fixed his hair with a bit of gel and popped is collar as he put on his shades and colored contacts. It would be a productive albeit extremely sunny day because today he would get his first job since landing in Japan. To be honest he had always loved Italian food in Canada but was always told that it was not actually "authentic" due to the watered down family tree of this owner or that owner. None of the food was like they made it "back home" but to Amare it all tasted great. From the spaghetti to the meatballs to the pasta to the fettuccine alfredo Amare knew that even if he did not get this job he would at least leave with some take out.
He had wondered if he should call ahead of time to let them know he was coming but thought that it was impolite. Instead he had sent an email letting them know that he was interested in the position and just like that he had gotten a reply explaining the time and place to arrive for an interview. Amare had never applied for a job before and this would technically be his first one, but he had read up on alot of the rules of working for a restaurant so that he could be ready for any curve-balls the interviewer might throw at him. He knew a bit about labor laws and proper hourly wages and he also knew about unions. Though he was not sure if that last one would apply to "mom&pop" type restaurants like this one.
He would find himself within Musutafu the sights quite something to behold. Due to his online efforts Amare had not much time outside of school to actually explore his surroundings. There was that one time with the girl named Jess, but other than that he had not really taken to learning what was really in his community. Well with this job he knew everything would change. This would be his gateway to learning about the community, the people in it and all the different cultures that make up the city. But which position offered would allow him to gain the most amount of information? As a busboy he would mostly be cleaning off tables and working in the back, that would be no good. So that left him with server and host. As host he would greet people at the door and seat them right? Meanwhile as a server he would have to memorize the menu and offer suggestions to people who wished to dine in. Somehow that seemed way more daunting a task than greeting people at the door, and it was in that moment Amare knew what he wanted to do without much doubt.
The restaurant would quickly come into sight, as Amare walked up confidently his resume packaged in his hand. Walking up to the door he would peer in quickly before reaching and entering inside.

The resaurant wasnt full, but neither was it empty. It had a decent amount of people, but nothing to go crazy over. Once someone enters it, they could immediate tell this was nothing like anything Japan had to offer. This atmosphere was pure european and western culture. Heck, there wasnt even a japanese person employed here. Only foreigners of this stange land. Even the quiet music was set to make people feel as if they left Japan. Now even though the place wasnt as understaffed as before, Antonio liked to work as a waiter occassionally. He trusted Elena enough in the kitchen, she was a good cook. Now he decided to work at the front and well, soon a new customer entered the establishment. He approached and greeted the young one "Buongiorno and welcome to Osteria dei Mascalzoni. Can I help you today?" he said with a smile and tried his best to hide his spanish accent. He spoke italian and japanese and was neither of the two. Still he tried his best to make a good appearance. He was though oblivious that this young lad came for the job interview, instead he thought he was a new customer who had trouble finding a nice spot

Upon entering Amare knew instantly this was nothing like he had experienced before. Whether it was the layout of the restaurant, the smells of the food being eaten and plates being prepared in the back Amare took a second to just admire. The colors spoke out to him of a calm and respectful atmosphere, but it also made its mark as if it was yelling that "hey were are different from what you have out there!". The decor made Amare think that the culture of the restaurant was one that was unique to its own, not even the Italian places in Canada looked like this. Slowly taking his shades off and turning in a circle in place Amare was taking it all in before even noticing that someone was speaking to him. Amare wasn't japanese and it was slowly dawning on him that probably no one else here was either.
Out of the corner of his eye he could see someone had approached him, a guy he did not even notice until now. He may of been standing there for a full 5 maybe 10 seconds before Amare would finish turning in his circle to face him.
"O-oh yea! Hi um.. I'm Amare and I emailed earlier. I'm here for a job interview about working here. I saw that you had a few positions open here. Is your supervisor here?"
Now Amare would clench his free hand and lightly hit his leg for the fumble that he just did. Not only did he mean to say 'manager' but all that stumbling over his words was making him look nervous. Well, he was nervous but online it said that its best to approach a potential interview with confidence. This was super hard because Amare had never worked for someone before and he did not want his confidence to come off as arrogance or to be taken as if he was being condescending. So while keeping his tone in check and not wanting to make any unnecessary hand motions or gestures Amare came up with that sad excuse of a sentence to explain his 'being there' to the oddly well dressed gentleman in front of him.
Grabbing the envelope he was holding onto and opening it Amare would pull out his laminated resume and hold it at the ready so that he could give it to the person in charge as soon as they showed up. This entire situation would be a great opportunity for him to network as well as learn about the restaurant business. Not that he wanted to own his own restaurant someday just that any experience working for someone is good because when you get into a position where people work for you, you can understand their points of view whenever difficult situations arise.

Hearing the person introduce himself, it all clicked to Antonio "Ah. You are the one that Boss is expecting. Right this way, right this way" Antonio said and gestured Amare to follow
Together the two would make their way to the office. Along the way as they walk, Antonio chatted with Amare "You know, I am not a host normally. We are a tad bit understaffed, so today I work as host, while normally I work best as chef. But we have someone good in the kitchen. Although it was a funny story of how we employed our current cook" Antonio said with a chuckle.
But alas, the spainiard didnt tell their young visitor the story as soon as they arrived to the office or rather its closed door. Antonio crossed his hands and pondered if he should give some tips. He thought what to say "The Boss may seem scary strict, but he's nice. You just got to say what you want to work and convince him you are qualified for said position. And of course convince him that he should hire you. Ok, so more or less a real interview. But no biggy. I'm sure you can do it. Good luck" he gave Amare a pat on the back and left. Leaving Amare to knock on the door

...The Boss...
It was almost as if he was in a film as Amare was lead through the restaurant towards what he assumed was the back. Here they two men quickly arrived at a plain looking door. The story the young staff member engaged in Amare knew was meant to help with his nerves(maybe) but Amare was too worried about sounding like an idiot to speak back. He was already probably underage and unable to work in such a professional establishment but he could not also help but notice the type of paetrons who were already inside eating. Many seemed from a completely different world Amare was used to and trying not to let that bother him or let it show that it was troubling him was taking quite a bit of his concentration. The hallway he found himself in was done quite well as the décor matched the rest of the restaurants feel. The door itself seemed plain enough but well taken care of. Almost as if someone polished the door to make sure it would not look rough or dirty for anyone who came inside. Amare had read online that most restaurant owners do not spend a lot of time in their restaurants because running a business requires you to be in different places at once. So the fact that not only was the boss here but his door was kept so clean that it signified that the boss was here often, was beginning to unnerve him a bit.
"Y-y-yea regular interview luck yup. Good gotcha."
He would fumble and stumble to say as he stood in front of the door. For a few seconds he would gather himself and his thoughts before giving the door three quick knocks one after another. The pat on his back made Amare turn to look at the boy as he left, something about his nonchalant yet confident stride momentarily stirring something within.

He was in his office and he was glad that he got some new job applications. 2 ones in fact that are scheduled for today. As he looked at his papers, he heard some knocks on the door. Ah right on cue "Come in" he said and told the person to come in and open the door
When the person arrived, Giovanni was surprised to see how young he was. Still, he got up and offered to shake hands with the youth. "Giovanni Trapani. And you are?" he asked Dajh Amare to introduce himself so he knows which interviewe he was getting
Once they introduced themselves, they were free to sit down. Which Giovanni did. And thus the interview started. Giovanni started with a simple question "So which job did you apply for?" he asked as he looked at some papers. He listened for the young mans answers and the colour of his voice and how he speaks. Was he overly meek and shy? Or was he confident but not overly confident. He had to start evaluating the youth to see if he can somehow employ him even if he is underage. He even calculated how he would pay the young lad.

Walking in, Amare would of been underwhelmed at the natural look of the office. Based off of the outside restaurants look he expected the Boss' room to look extravagant. With a fish tank here and a candelabra and maybe heads of animals he has hunted with his bare hands hanging over a fireplace or something. But there was none of those things. Stunned as he continued to look around Amare tried to stay focused as he heard the boss introduce himself as Giovanni Trapani, sounded like a gym leader from a popular video game.
"My name's Dajh sir! But I would rather be called Amare. I am here for the host or server job position. I am very friendly and capable of working in a fast pace environment. I am also a student at UA but I won't let my studies interfere with my work here."
Amare would try to sound confident but the pitch of his voice would of been a bit too low as he attempted to sound older than he was. It was a cheap tactic but definitely instinctual since earlier that month he had actually snuck out to try and buy alcohol. One thing lead to another but it was definitely not his acting skills that got him that beer. So why resort to it now? Perhaps it was just his nerves kicking in due to the lack of familiarity, whatever it was he mentally blamed it for whatever negative result was going to come about because of it.

The young one intoduced himself as Dahj but would be preferred to be called by his 2nd name Amare. He said he is looking to work as a host or a server. Right away he said he is very friendly and capable of woking in a fast pace enviroment. Giovanni nodded as he looked at the papers, these were all bonus points Dahj Amare would get. It was good he got some initiative. But now it was Giovanni's turn to ask the question. He went right to the point "What does the word hospitality mean to you, and how does it apply to being a host?" he asked
This question allows Giovanni to determine whether the candidate Dahj Amare is willing to take the extra steps to anticipate a customer's needs and exceed expectations. Hosts should not only offer a friendly face as customers enter the restaurant, but they should also go the extra mile to pay attention to the little things that customers may need. They must also know what resources to use to solve problems if necessary. What he is looking in the answer was simple. Empathy for customers. The ability to make things happen by any means necessary and the willingness to take extra steps to create a positive experience. Giovanni wants to see what will Dahj Amare say. Will he pass this interview... no... test! This was a test

Amare was not sure if he had overstepped when he rambled on. He answered what he felt was more than what the initial question was asking but from the Boss' face he couldn't tell if that was a good or bad thing. There was a pause where the Boss had taken a look at the papers in front of him before firing off his next question. This one Amare felt had some weight behind it and would probably be a deciding factor towards whether or not he would be getting the job. Perhaps he could take some time to think about it? But something told Amare that the sooner he answered the question the quicker he realize whether or not he would be employed. To stall this out would be to stall out the verdict and Amare was too impatient to do something like that. "Hospitality means to take care of someone. Sorta like how a nurse has to take care of their patient. But when your a host most people only think that your job is to seat people with a smile. But I think its more than that. It's finding out what the person wants to eat before they know themselves. Its knowing that each customer is different and one smile that works on one will work on the other. It's the ability to work the moment without taking conversation or focus off of the restaurant or all the amenities it has to offer."
Stopping to think if he had actually answered the question or not Amare would quickly start again so that the Boss did not think that, that was the end of his answer.
"As a host it would be my job to make the customers feel welcome. To make sure their time is a positive one from the moment they walk into the door until the moment they leave it. To solve problems before they arrive allowing a smooth experience through and through."
Taking a deep breath in the moment after speaking, Amare would hope that he had answered in a way that the Boss would of liked. It was without question that Amare had honestly spoken his mind and whether or not he got the job he knew that he made an effort with all his heart and mind. If he was able to work here not only would he have a steady source of income but he would also be able to work with that guy from earlier. Amare had never gotten his name but there was just something about him that made his stomach feel weird and his chest tighten.
But focus! He had to get the job first, before he even begun to explore what all of those feelings may of meant.

Giovanni marked something on his paper and wasted no time before asking the 2nd question "What would you do if the phone started ringing just as you greeted a guest entering the restaurant?" he asked and looked at Dahj Amare.
Now by asking this question, Giovanni wanted to see how his potential employee handles multiple pressing issues at the same time. He will also be able to see if his young candidate values face to face interactions over conversations over the phone. Making sure a host has priorities that line up with those of the restaurant is an important element of this position. What to look for in this answer is the ability to delegate tasks, prioritization of duties and the ability to tend to multiple people at one time.
Giovanni would prefer if Dahj Amare would greet the guest entering the restaurant before excusing himself to answer the phone. Thus he would then ask if the caller could hold for a moment and tend to the first guest. Something like that. Just the ability to multitask well and not be a bubbling bafoon. He looked at Dahj Amare and prepared to write whatever the young candidate answers. He needed to gather all data needed

Amare was starting to sweat now. He had thought the first question would be enough ot get him the job but the Boss had another question charged and ready to go as soon as Amare had stopped talking. This one was a scenario type question that put Amare in the position of a host or server he was not sure, but regardless there were two customers one on the phone the other there in person. Both required his attention but he was only one Amare. So what would he do? Knowing that not panicking was the first and obvious option he knew better than to say that as part of his answer. It was such a regular choice that Amare did not want to pick because if he did it would probably make him seem simple. No he would make things a bit more interesting from the scenario's perspective.
"I think the best option would be to call for back up. Maybe another waiter or host could come assist me with the phone while I helped and sat the customer. All while apologizing for the wait of course. Another way I could handle it, especially if I am working the front alone, is that I could ask the people on the phone to hold a minute. That'd let me greet the customer that just came in and seat them making sure they're available and ready for the waiter for when they appear. Then I could go back to the phone, hoping they did not wait too long."

Giovanni marked his answer and nodded, after which he asked another question "What steps would you take in the event of an emergency?" he asked as in answering this question, the candidate should demonstrate an ability to think quickly on their feet while remaining calm. Giovanni wants someone who already has a plan in place for dealing with general emergencies. This will likely include stopping to assess the situation in order to determine the nature of the emergency, removing the immediate threat if necessary and calling emergency services while keeping their full attention on the present situation. What he looks in the answer is the ability to take action while remaining calm, willingness to step in and help and preparation for the unexpected
The two would continue like this. Giovanni asks and Dahj Amare answers. Once Dahj Amare would answer, Giovanni would ask other things like 'What would you do if a party of 10 came in claiming to have a reservation, but it was not on the books?' where he'd look in the answer were citical thinking skills, ability to admit a mistake and methods of problem solving. As they talked, Giovanni would mark all the answers because even though he was a mafioso who used the restaurant as a cover. He still ran a legitimate business and wanted to keep it clean and proffessional. He wanted Amare to keep up those high standards.

"If there was an emergency I would immediately make sure the customers are okay. Then I would gather up the staff and see if we can figure out the source of the problem. I would even close the restaurant until the emergency was resolved if it prevented things from getting worse."
Amare was worried that he was actually getting some of these wrong, as the Boss never corrected him nor made any physical notion that Amare could perceive as wrong or right. Beads of sweat would slowly start to form along his brow and trail down the nape of his neck. Did the other guy have to go through this too? Or was it like a family sort of thing? Now that he thought about it, Amare would tilt his head as if he was thinking but he was actually trying to figure out whether or not the two of them were related. The boy who showed him in was really cute, especially the way he walked away...just something about the way his...
Snapping back just in time for the question, Amare would take a breath before answering "Ten people? That uh...I would apologize to them and ask them to wait for a minute while I check for space. I would ask around the staff and see if there was anyone who booked the party and just forgot to write it on the books. After figuring that out I would meet back with the party and have them seated."
Amare knew that the most important thing was that they did not leave unsatisfied and that meant seating them even if the mistake was not on behalf of the restaurant.

"Ok I think that's enough you got the job" he said Well, he was satisfied with what he heard. But there is a minor hiccup that he needed to get out of the way "Okay, now listen. Since you are a minor. I will have to slash your payment by half of what the adults learn, you will also work for shorter hours. Because Im not into child labor. But also I need you to write down your parents bank information. Your monthly pay will be added on their bank account. Is that okay" Giovanni asked before moving onward If Dahj Amare was ok with that, Giovanni would fiddle with his computer and printed out a paper"Take this. This is when we do not work. Holidays. We dont stick to those giapponese holidays" he said as he handed him the paper "Those are your days off. During Japanese holidays we come here and work. Sometimes if there is not enough work, we mingle and relax. On the other side of the paper are also your work hours" Giovanni said And since they did all that interview stuff. Giovanni asked the boy "Any questions?" considering he was teh one asking questions. Now Dahj Amare can ask whatever he desires or whatever he wants to know from the Boss.

A huge smile would cross Amare's face as he heard what the boss said. He was nodding his head vigorously as he heard his new employer layout the details about payment and work hours. He did not ask about availability though Amare was not about to tell him which days he could not work. As far as this place knew he was always available. Looking at the holidays on the back, Amare was familiar with less than he would like to willingly admit, and made a mental note to add them into his phone's calendar. His work hours were decent, usually open to close, something he was expecting from the beginning. When the floor was open for questions, Amare would be writing without looking as he wanted to keep eye contact with the Boss while asking his questions.
"Y-yea! That's fine. Thank you so much for the job. Is there a uniform I would have to buy from you guys? Do I start tomorrow or is there training first? Also will I be working with that guy that's out front now?"
The questions would of came out like word vomit, Amare just being super excited with getting the job. The fact that he had not been asked to leave after answering all those questions meant he did amazing on the interview and would officially start working at the restaurant. With a solid and reasonable place of business established as his main source of income Amare could look towards a future with sufficient financial backing. Was he ready to buy a car or something of the like? Not really he did not even know how to drive, but a new camera and filtering lens was definitely in his future and something he could readily look forward to.
