Introductions. They were important. They weren't always the first step in a first impression, but were often the little things that held the most weight. She was careful to pick what to say, careful to leave pieces behind to be picked up and threads to be pulled. Meticulous in her methods, though, she was far from perfect. With the information passed about the lives of her parents. "Then I suppose we're alike in those regards. My parents aren't around either." Though, the reason was murder, to the first degree by none other than her twin sister. Kasey tried to feel sorrow, sadness or pain even. But it was hard for her to feel anything for people she just could not remember. Not their names, or their faces. Their own family name lost to the system, the both of them forging their own identities. "Just a few." she would answer. "Students used to come in all the time. We were most known for working with Darkshine, the former, and the first, top hero. Now we work with anyone willing. Though only Army of One comes to mind." The small truths. No one knew Sashi was a Ketsujo. No one knew of the friendship between the aged men. And none would know that when Thundershock ended her life, he was ending the life of his friend's own daughter. ~ Word Count: 226 ~ |

Niji listened carefully to the young woman's response. This basically sounded like a hero agency to her. Heroes wanted to get their names out there, but the public didn't trust them on their own. Maybe that's why Niji couldn't stand the government at times. They created all these laws to make those who were different follow a set of rules instead of growing and changing with the times. To her, the government that was in charge now felt like an inconvenience to her; it seemed they only picked situations that benefited them but not help others. Just like her incident. The officials ignored it. They didn't care that she lost her father and friends to a madman. They cared if she was fit to run an empire.
But she wasn't fully upset. There were benefits to some things. She had a wonderful friend in Jeeves, who has watched ever since the incident, taking care of her finances and making sure that nothing went amuck. It was nice to have someone in her corner. Even her talk with Honey proved to have some effect on her seeing things a little bit differently.
"Sorry for the wait," the waitress said, returning their order. "I hope you guys enjoy it. If you need anything just give me a yell." As she walked away from the table Niji turned back to her guest. "So you said you worked with students. Are you talking about the ones from UA?"

The world lived more on secrets and half truths than money. Money was related only to time. Money bought you time, it bought you people who could spend time doing the things you didn't have time for. Research, labor, and other tasks. That was how the world functioned. The secrets, you had power, and with power, you could control someone, and by extension, all of their assets. With it, money. Secrets, were money. Secrets, gave you all of the time in the world. Kasey could never trust the government after what happened before. It was more than a small mistake. It was an entire organization, a division to take out quirkers, both villainous and heroic. The government wasn't trying to equalize the public, but regulate the powers they could never understand. They were foolish. Those that suffered then, would rise in the new age. They would lead the world that this government could never. "Mostly Yuuei, yes. Was about a year and a half I think?" she would ponder the thought. She would take a bite of her croissant before continuing. "After the events of Semper Fi," that event could never escape her. It was something that defined her, and rightfully so. "They decided to let me go. Something about someone being unregistered to help. I just did what anyone else would do, I saved lives. Even got in the papers.
The Crimson Skull. though, instead they just used my name. Which is still pretty cool I guess." She shrugged before taking a sip from her drink. "Not everyone is allowed to play hero, I suppose. Not even when your own government is trying to kill you." a laugh escaped her. In her eyes, it was all a joke. All of it a giant facade of playing pretend. Sooner or later, there would be a revolution. Heroes and criminals alike would pick sides and soon find unlikely allies. ~ Word Count: 318 ~ |

Niji felt a little sorry for Kasey. She actually tried to help people and what was her reward? She was probably doing the right thing and she was written off as an afterthought. Yes, the laws were in place to prevent quirkers from using their powers unnecessarily, but she felt that some things were unnecessary. Everyone should have the right to define what being a hero means and what lives they should lead with quirks. Not to be ostracized and outcasted. She believed it was the hate and laws of the government that bred the villains and heroes in the first place. Not to be used as an asset. But to be treated like people. She hoped once she went pro, she could change some that.
Niji took another sip of her latte and looked out the window for a second. She hoped the last part Kasey said was a joke. If you disobey by protecting others it means death? She would have talk to Jeeves about it some more. But for now... "I know firsthand how the government can be," Niji said watching the kids play. "I know what it feels like to become "unimportant". I want to change that one day by owning my own tech company and changing the views of the government."
She looked at Kasey, her eyes and smile speaking of a promise she wanted to keep. The promise she wanted to keep towards to her father. "I know that sounds a bit silly, building tech to change the world's views. But I feel like everyone should be protected and feel important. Building tech to help save lives and bridge gaps between quirkers and quirkless seems like the right way to go about it." Niji wanted to say more. To make sure no one else had to suffer the way she did. To make sure no one else died on her watch. To make sure that people were being paid attention to when they were in a crisis. That's why she wanted to be a hero. That was the promise she wanted to keep towards the people she lost in her life.

Part of her wondered why she was still virtually unknown, even as a vigilante. All of it was public information, yet word never got out, almost as if the agencies made it happen that way. It was something that never really saw the light, even when all of the articles about it were circulating like mad. One thing that could have changed her life, and it was pushed aside like everything else she worked so hard for. This world would never see her as a hero, no matter what she did. No matter how hard she tried. She was just a nobody. She was Yuuei's puppet, and still remained that way, even a year later. "If it was that easy, it would have already been done." she would say, "This generation of Heroes isn't the answer, it's the new generation being brought up." The new kids on the block. The third years, when it was their time, would make a huge impact on the world. In that time, quirks and strange abilities will be much more common. Eventually it will get to the point where the seats in government will be forced to have quirkers, and the stigma that followed them would be dismissed. Of course, Kasey understood that it would come with civil unrest. But by then, those people trying to kill off all of these mutants will be long dead, arrested or simply missing. That was how it worked now. Villains would still have the upper hand in control. If they didn't sit on the throne of the world, they would at least influence who was allowed to be on it. "All the more reason why I worked so long at Ketsujo." she would answer. "The only way for normal quirkless people to accept this new world, is to make quirks easily accessible and understandable. Then there is no longer fear of the unknown."~ Word Count: 317 ~ |

The new generation. She was not going to lie= that worried Niji a bit. Because when she looked at UA, it kind of worried her a bit. Some of them can be... unmatured. Others have way too much baggage to help anyone else. But there were a few that tried to help and make things better. But was this generation of heroes really the answer? Was the solution them? Maybe the pros could pull it together and make things right. Maybe.
"Maybe understanding one another might be a good step forward," Niji agreed, putting her hand under her chin to think. "It is sad to think about how people view us- even the government. But I believe that one day their minds could be changed. And whether it will be this generation or the next, a solution will come." Again, wishful thinking. This was the same government and people wrote off her case as "unfortunate circumstance." She wondered if it was because she was a quirker or because her dad supported it.
Their waitress came back to their table. "Here's your bill," the woman said with a smile. "Whenever ready to pay, just let me know." Niji thanked the young woman. "You know," Niji said looking at Kasey. "If it's all the same, I think you are a hero in my book. As long as you want to help others, you don't need permission to be a hero. Just saving lives is enough." If Kasey was there to save her friends on that night when she lost her father and her friends, Niji believed her father and friends would still be with her. Maybe the world needed more people like her.

Maybe people feared her for her horns, or maybe it was how she spoke. Many feared her for her quirk, at least the ones that were still around. She was far from perfect, and in her eyes she was rough and very blemished. She may have been a diamond, but she was far from being cut and polished. And in a way, she preferred it that way. Looking pretty was one thing, but it was another to be strong. "Well, I know it will be your generation." The first heroes, the trailblazers would set the stage, but still the world was unrefined. They did their work, but even now, it was hard to define what that work even was. When the programs advanced, and students became sidekicks, then heroes, only then would the world change. Kasey hoped to be at the center of it, acting as the bridge between the chaos of both ends. The quirks that couldn't be controlled, and the quirkless who couldn't understand how quirked worked at all. It was science at the base of it. And with anatomy, it was all something for them to grasp. There was always going to be corrupt people, or moments were things fell between the cracks. But soon, in this lifetime, Kasey would see the shift. Or, she would force it to happen before she left this world. "You may call me a hero," She would say with a smile and a nod. "But once i steo out that door and stop an armed robbery, I'll be charged with obstruction of justice for not being licensed, or, using my quirk in public." She laughed lightly. "Sadly, doing things, and doing things legally are very different in this world." She was a nightmare. But even so, the fear she instilled in others, was always done so hundreds others would live. It was her will. This was the way. ~ Word Count: 317 ~ |

The truth of this world that Niji fears most. The fine between legal and illegal when it came to saving lives. Niji, even being trained at UA, couldn't understand it. It was basically the government telling those who wanted to help 'Hey, you are not a hero. You either have to be one, or suffer consequences,' How was that encouraging a change? Yes, legalizing sanctioned pros help control situations that deal with those who use their quirk due to evil purposes. But maybe those people became evil due to how the government treated quirkers- like some disease or plague upon the world. How was anyone supposed to progress?
"I guess you're right," Niji said sadly. The harsh truth of this world- you're a hero, it's your fault. You are vigilante or villain, it's your fault. You are a regular quirk person trying to make a living, you have to pay a tax, and its still your fault. The system was at fault and the new generation was probably the only group to fix it. When she became a pro, she hoped she could fix that.
Just as she was about to converse more on the matter, her phone buzzed with a text. Niji took a look to see it was from Jeeves. He was stopping by UA today to bring her some stuff and talk about what the benefactors decided on. Joy. "I apologize I have to go," Niji said. "But I would like to do this again in the future." She grabbed a napkin and wrote down a number to her cell for Kasey. "I hope we can hang out more if you like," Niji said with a smile.

Being a hero, it wasn't the same as being a good person anymore. A hero was someone who was licensed and allowed to do what was needed to save lives. A good person, was held back by these rules. A good person would be punished. A good person would do it because it's right. The cost? Jail. Prison. Or, in the worst case scenario, death. Students were people in training to be a hero. A place restricted by age, forcing those of adulthood to live a life between the law and right thing to do as a vigilante. A person, who might have been good, doing bad things, for good reason. This world wasn't black and white anymore, there was a million shades of gray. Something had to be done. Someone had to bring it about. "Yeah." she would say, knowing that the truth was a hard one to hear. It was touch to become aware of the outside world. It was hard to see the world in a different light, or worse, to have your fears become reality. What were you to do then? Did you fight to restore it to your ideals, or did you give in to what it was? Did you cave into structure and rules, or did you break free to redefine it all? Kasey reached over to her hand, cupping her fingers, pulling the bones posing as her nails from behind her hand. A parlor trick, but one she was getting used to. A quick motion, and a white rectangle, the name, the number, all of it engraved, embossed, and designed right on the card. her name, her number, her occupation, all there for the taking. She passed it on the table to the young hero. "I believe it would be rather inappropriate to call a youth unwarranted, but do call, or text should you need anything." She remained in her seat. There was no reason to leave with the girl. She would take in the moment for a while. ~ Word Count: 337 ~ |

"Of course," Niji said taking the card and reading it. She understood. She was a young girl and would probably be unprofessional to being hanging with an adult. But all the same, she did hope to meet the woman again in the future. "Well, I best be going," Niji said, putting money on the table for the bill. "Thanks for a having coffee with me. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day." And with that the young Niji walked out the door, leaving the woman seated in the seat. As the limo pulled up, Jeeves greeted her and ushered her in.
As they made their way to the meeting, Niji told him about her day and the person that she had just met. She showed him the card, and Jeeves had a concern look on his face. "Niji-sama," Jeeves said with a concern tone. "You should more careful who you speak to. You never know how most people are." Niji looked away from the window to Jeeves, with a smile on her face. "I don't know," said Niji, her face in thoughtful expression. "She didn't seem to bad. I think she just wants a postive change for the world that's all." But Niji wondered- was Jeeves right.

It would have been impossible for anyone to prosecute her. Kasey was careful in her methods, unlike the woman the world knew as Ishtar. She didn't hide her evils behind a package portrayed to help students and heroes. What was evil, was evil. What was good, was good. She helped people for no cost. She kept the impoverished in good health despite their misfortune, or rather, lack of fortune. She wasn't a bad person who just happened to be doing good things. She was a good person who just did really bad things. There was hope, that maybe the world could forgive her. An ending that would be fit for a fairy tale of a villain who just wanted to do things to help the world. It was a tale at best, and would never become a reality. Small moments of hopeful stories may have have given her just a bit of light to pursue her extremities, but even she knew it was past the point of return. She remained in the seat, her gaze falling outside of the restaurant, catching view of the ride that had picked up the girl. It seemed that with that, her location must have been tracked. Her escort not that far away to retrieve her. The man was of interest however. Her gaze watched, trying to trace the words of their mouths before looking back at the emptiness of the seat in front of her. She smiled, her mind full of hope as she lingered on the small conversation. Her mind played a thousand events over and over, but she always strayed on one. "So Cherry, when are you going to come back home?" She would smile, talking lowly to herself. Even with it all crashing down, she would always miss her sister. Maybe, just maybe one day she would return. Twins are never supposed to be so far apart... ~ Word Count: 316 ~ |
