It was a delightful afternoon. The sun was high in the sky as the weather was starting to settle into a mild heat with the occasional soft breeze taking the sent of the city with it. The shopping district slowly being filled with people looking for an afternoon brunch was a sight that was unchanged across the globe. The soft puffy clouds offering an occasional cool spot as the small lunch shops started to capitalize on the weather with terraces being pulled out.
Archibald found himself within the reach of these shops' encapsulating scents as he passed them by. The softly sweet smell of freshly baked breads and the sweet of the pastries drifting his way. It took him a second as he stood in front of one of those shops as he put a gloved hand in his pockets. His hair still featuring its iconic frozen tips, he was dressed slightly too fancy for the occasion. The smooth blue blouse with the black pants, accompanied by black gloves on his pale white-skinned hands. The rummaging of the soft gloves through his pockets causing the coins and bills to rattle before pulling out some of the money he had saved for "Fun expenses".
"Well... it was for something to enjoy... ah why not, get something familiar for myself and try to enjoy this heat as well as I can."
He thought to himself as he went through the money. It should cover the meal easily, so he decided to walk into the shop. A deep exterior that looked like most other small lunch shops stretched before him. A mixture of people looking perfectly normal and those with visible quirks littered the cool inside's benches as he stared for a second before walking to the counter.
His clear western descent made it that often the Japanese cashier would look at him with a mixture of nervousness and curiosity, but he quickly tried to start the conversation in his relatively fluent Japanese.
"Good afternoon, a croissant, some cream buns... eh make that two... and a bottle of water please."
He saw the girl's reaction to his speech, a small blush spreading on his face as he received his order and paid. His touch as always cold even through his gloves he saw the girl recoil her hand for a second and realized she had not expected his quirk. The small puffs of cool air creating tiny clouds of mist and with a small nod he left the shop. Outside the shop on one of the small benches, he sat down. Opening the bag he placed the content on the small table in front of him. The food looking incredibly tasty to him at the moment.

Things were complicated. It wasn't what it used to be a year ago. Time passed. People changed. Policies changed. The world changed. Everything was different, except for her. To her, it was just a day ago. Time didn't exist. It was just a name tied to a measurement between moments you last saw someone. If you felt decades passed in just a few moments, what was the difference to someone who waited decades for what felt like a few seconds? To her, Semper Fi was yesterday. Yet, between those hours, she had done so much, but remained the same girl. Girl? No, she was a woman now. Time passed. People changed. But she didn't. A soft black jacket worn over her loose white shirt. A blue cap on her head, hiding the horns. Her silver hair free in the wind. Her hands were buried into her pockets, holding onto the small folded wallet that held only a few things. There was no paper money with her, only two credit cards and identification. A white wallet cold to the touch, one people would soon find to be made of bone. Though the reason it was soft like leather would be a whole other process of discovery. She looked up to the sun in the sky, enjoying the light upon the skin of her legs. Short jeans that rested upon her knees, and black cloth shoes. She wandered, free, only to take a moment to enjoy the world, and what gifts it may offer her. She could see the people, and with it, the idea that it must have been a place worth visiting. A simple exterior that was something that would blend into a market. Nothing spectacular about it. It was average, and she hoped the food would not be so. She would walk in, with a smile, only to wait in line, finding a boy before her, ordering with a strange accent. As he paid and walked away, she looked at him, taking a moment to catch his face. The small clouds of heat against the cold air around him. It was familiar. It was like Maxi."I'll get the same as he did, but I'll take a juice. Doesn't matter what kind." The girl would nod with a nervous smile. Kasey handed over the black card to the girl, and watched as she played with the weight of it. "Oh wow, I thought these things were a myth.""Well, they aren't.""You must be loaded then!"". . . if only." She smiled, trying not to say more than needed. The receipt would be printed, and soon handed over with the card. As she signed her name, she would pass over the paper to receive her order in return. With a nod, she left. Making her way outside, she caught a glimpse of the boy again, only wondering how many quirks like that existed. Surely things were bound to be repeated. She tucked her buns into her pocket, leaving one hand holding her juice, and the other her croissant. She dropped the bag into a nearby bin and made as few steps, before slowing down past the boy. Slow enough to speak and wait for a reply. "Wool is better." she would say. If he any anything to say, she would wait for that moment, otherwise she would continue on to the next store. Maybe she would buy a necklace today. But, of course, it would be more beneficial to craft one of her own. Then at least she wouldn't be wasting money, and it would have a bit of more use out of it. She hated wasting things. ~ Word Count: 607 ~ |

As he sat down the coolness of his skin was catching the rays of the sun that fell between the cracks of the parasols above him. The heat of it uncomfortable to him as he started to have a droplet of the wet hair slide into his neck for an all too familiar uncomfortableness to him. The murmur of the streets fell as waves over him as he started to stare at the bun in front of him. The choice of what to eat first tempting him. He vaguely remembered the people behind him in line, a feeling of uncomfortableness washing over him for a second as he realized he might have been making any of them uncomfortable like the shopkeeper. He tried to shake the feeling as he looked to the side. The woman he saw in the shop, one of the many faces that he saw while waiting in line, passed him by.
The noise of the people seemed to dull out as she spoke, it was clear that she aimed her comment to him. He blinked for a second and as he translated the sentence and he stood up as he replied to the girl:
"I-I eh... I really don't think so... eh sorry! I hope I didn't make you cold. Would you like to sit down? I don't mind sharing my warm croissant... oh you have one already... I mean... you are free to join me if you like."
He realized his sentence was a whirlpool of assumptions and likely misunderstandings, but he was mildly interested in this young woman and what she meant. He also realized he had stood up, and with a quick glance turned back to the bench he sat down once again, leaving space for her to join him on it without having to be uncomfortably close. The well-dressed boy looking at her as he realized he did not introduce himself properly yet he hastily added;
"Oh, my name is Archibald Reighn, I'm a first-year over at UA. Nice to meet you."

She wasn't the greatest with names, but she could remember instances and quirks. Little moments spent with people were all she needed. To learn about one version of a quirk, was to understand the other. You could see a dozen fire quirks, and at the basis they all functioned the same. One would raise their own temperature, which defined it as heat, others controlled temperature around them, which was fire at its finest. Ice, was just the same. The extremities of the other boy, made this one, seem simple by comparison. "Trust me." she would say, "If you don't want others to recoil, wool helps out the most." She spoke of course, from personal experience. She lifted her treat to her lips, taking a step towards the seat, but not yet sitting down. "Kasey Setsuna." she would answer in reply. "I'd shake your hand but..." She lifted the croissant to her mouth. Placing it between her teeth as she extended a hand to shake his own. Her own set of teeth baring fangs akin to a vampire or some other animal. If he took her hand, she would shake it and take her meal again, if not, she would just take a bite and sit down after. "My sister used to go to Yuuei, but that was a while ago." She'd speak from her seat, not really looking at the boy as she took small bites so she could chew quickly and speak again without food in her mouth. "Was a nice place to work." She smiled, nodding about the good times. She'd place her treat on her lap for a moment as she opened her juice, tossing the cap into her pocket before resuming with snack in one hand, and drink in the other. She would take small sips and small bits, savoring the taste, enjoying the small peace she had, for now. ~ Word Count: 314 ~ |

With a raised eyebrow he looked at the girl. He realized she had no clear sign of her quirk's type or ability. He looked down at his hand as he words rang true in nearly all cases. Often people who would have cold related quirks would put themselves in a warm packet of clothes to isolate themselves. He himself often found himself wishing his skin was not as cold as it was. It wasn't that he hated it, but the reaction itself was quite unwanted. He looked back up as he shook her hand, only then realizing the pointed teeth. He had not realized, and for the first time he also realized that he should have been paying more attention. He nodded and saw her sit down.
"I agree... I tried it but it warms me up too much, my hands get wet and the wool does too. In the end it will simply be cold wet gloves. But I appreciated it. Oh and I don't mean I get sweaty hands or anything... you know just to clarify..."
As he spoke he looked down at his hands, he liked the kind of gloves he often wore, but they originated with a need that was to be fulfilled, so to an extend it a non-issue. It took him this long to realize it has long been since he thought about it this hard. His eyes blinked for a second as he turned his gaze to the lady once again. The small horns and silver hair a stunning combination. He blinked a few time with a dumb look on his face as he felt an interest in the last two sentences she spoke. A barrage of questions settling within his mind as he looked at her.
"I am sorry... you sister went there? Did she like it? I came here for the school from the Netherlands and eh... I mean... you use to work there? Were you a teacher? Also... do you know a lot about quirks like my own?"
He quickly realize he was asking a lot of questions he should probably not be asking. A lot of them personal. He shook his head as he realized that is she were to avoid the answer, he would let the topic rest. He would simply raise the cream puff in front of him and eat it. If she were to answer he would instead listen intently, letting her speak without trying to look at her too direct, afraid it would come across as invasive. His knowledge of the culture likely making him overcompensate.

She hated that people looked at others like they were freaks, monsters, anything that made them inhuman. In a way, they were right, they weren't human, they were more than human. She was lucky, that her own quirk was so easy to hide. From the public's eyes, to the senses, she nearly went under the radar, save for the horns on her head. Her former pink hair was almost a tell tale sign of an ability, but with quirks, bright blue hair wasn't so strange either. Nothing was natural. From quirks, to how people acted. Everything was regulated. Everything was an act. She listened, and watched him look down at his hands. If his hands did get wet, it meant his coldness was really just a captured heat. Taking in the moisture and trapping it. The best way for him to do it, was to easily breathe his skin to allow heat to leave, but what would that do with his quirk? Would that hinder him for the sake of comforting others? No, it wasn't like he was hurting anyone. What he needed was a simple breathable fabric. One that benefited both sides, mostly himself. He asked far too many questions, ones she didn't find the need to answer. At least, ones she wasn't comfortable with. Was it fitting to tell a stranger that just a year ago her sister was murdered? Was it fitting to say she was suspended for suspicion, rehired, then laid off? There was much to say, yet none of it came out. He shook his head, likely realizing the same. "Not a teacher. All of the teachers are professional heroes. I am not licensed." she answered, still with a few things in mind. "I think, the students I helped trained, are third years now." She looked up in thought, her eyes following clouds and flies as they buzzed by. "I don't know a lot about quirks, but I have seen my fair share. There was a kid, Maxi, he too had an ice quirk. He hated when people recoiled at his touch." her eyes would fall upon him, curious to what he would say. "Before you ask, as I'm sure you're curious, my main ability is regeneration. But the one people take note, is my affinity for bones." She was careful not to say it was her quirk. Because it wasn't. It belonged to her own spirit. ~ Word Count: 403 ~ |

He looked at her. Her reaction was clear from her face that there was more to it then she said. Ice was a type of quirk that more people had, yet it was still relatively normal for people to have such a strong reaction. It wasn't like a comfortable heat that some fire quirks produced, it was often a bitter cold that stung to the touch. He looked at her face as she spoke about her quirk. He realized that her sentence was purposefully put together in the way it was, he did decide to not press her on it.
His gaze went across her body, bones were a thing that was easy to hide. His quirk was a lot harder to be kept hidden. Her skin seemed fair, and her hair could have been like that from simply being a fan of the color. It was only the horns and teeth that gave it away. He then realized what she said, she wasn't wrong. It was very common for people to recoil and it was painful to see. He nodded as he answered with a soft voice;
"You are right. It shouldn't be that way. But it sadly isn't... I was born with the ability to control water and ice... and well... it's still a bit hard. But I can make things that actually work, so I have to say its more useful than just a blast of cold air or anything... I'm sorry I must be babbling your ear off with all this. I simply want to help people... that is the reason I came all the way here."
He looked up once again at the sky, his eyes almost a bit hazy as he brushed the frozen locks of hair back out of his eyes. He looked with a smile at her as he took another bite from the bread. Chewing, swallowing and then responding with a smile:
"If you had students you helped train... I think they were better for it. I'm sure they felt understood. I know I do. Even if we only just met."
He smiled at her, going from the average smile to one that showed a kindness and warmth that was contrasting with the cold air around him due to his quirk.

She was complicated, and for good reason. Anything she said, even if blurted out was carefully picked. It was easy to pick your words when you had two minds to think for you. She processed the same information twice, and thought over her words twice as often. It meant that any time she second guessed herself, would be done to three, as would be anything else. That was the cost of her quirk; the conveniences of the privacy of your own mind. "What are your goals with this child?" the voice of Setsuna beckoned for an answer, all the while hidden within the recedes of her mind. Her conscience that was conscious and aware of the world around them. There was no "I" with her, it would always be "we". Her reply would be silence to him, only to be verbal to the boy. Bones may have been an easier thing to hide, but it came with a heavy toll. Ice, was one that lingered to the touch, but left small ailments that didn't cause puddles of blood to follow. "Then go help people.' she would answer. A simple plan for a simple goal in mind. "You might not be licenced yet, but nothing is stopping you from being change." She looked around at the people that passed by, finishing her treat, only to take out another from her pocket. She lifted her drink to her lips and sipped it, before speaking again. "Helping doesn't have to be your quirk. Picking up litter, or helping the elderly in a care home is just as useful for our society." She set the drink at her side, reaching into her pocket to pull her identification card for work. She would hold it out, close enough for the kid to look at, but not enough to touch. Just enough to read. "The Ketsujo Corporation is full of people with, and without quirks. It doesn't matter if you're a doctor, or just a receptionist. People have come in, just to put on a few sensors, and use their quirk normally. Even small things like that help all of us." She would flip the card over to show the back as well. Her name. Her photo. Her position. The plastic covering that protected the card. Kasey Setsuna. Pharmacist. R&D. "But you, for now, should probably focus on school.' She smiled, and gave a light laugh, "Now it seems like I'm the one talking too much. Haha.'~ Word Count: 412 ~ |

He looked at her. The woman he had only just met went through the effort to give him a fairly good life lesson. He took another bite from the bread or attempted to do so as he realized he had finished it. He lowered his hands and looked at her once again. As she pulled out her card he reached out for it but quickly retracted his hand as he realized she didn't hold it out for him to hold. He looked at her and it took a moment to realize what the implications were.
"You are with a cooperation that helps people like that? I mean... that is impressive. I'm sure your sister is proud of you if she wants to be a hero too. I mean, it makes you a hero in my book."
He smiled at her with a kind look in his eyes. He took out his cream bread and looked at it with a hungry look. His eyes focused on it, but it was clear that his mind was still fully at the conversation;
"I know what you mean. It may be a good idea for me to get strong, and until then I will help people in whatever way I can. If you ever have any idea for me to come help... where my powers may come in handy, then be sure to let me know. I know I haven't had my quirk examined in great detail so perhaps it would be a bit of a wildcard, but if it allows your company to help others with ice quirks... then you know."
He looked up again, as he spoke a charming smile took over his face and he looked at the bun she had. Surprisingly to him it was the same as his. He took a bite and as he swallowed he added in a teasing tone;
"Oh don't worry, I talk too much as well. I think it suits you. Makes it feel less like you are trying to filter things out. I know I'm only a young student compared to you, but it is a simple truth."
He then put the bun down and wrote down a few lines as he put it down in front of her on the table. It contained his name and number. He pointed at it with a smile as he looked at her with a serious look.
"You bet that one day I'll be strong enough to help you and everyone else who wants to help the world. I will become a hero that saves those who need to be rescued and makes everyone realize that there is no need to be afraid of those with quirks. Because there will be a hero to save them if that happens... but that is a faraway future I'm sure, I will need to work hard to achieve that. But I will one day, and then you know who to call."

Kasey was full of memories and teachings. She was one that could share stories from her own experience, rather than from theoretical examples. She had fought on the front lines as a civilian. She had no duty to uphold. She didn't need to save lives, but she did. She fought true corrupt evil, and still she emerged a victor. She fought battles she had no chance of winning, only to survive and come out on top. She had something many heroes didn't, and it was experience. She may not have fought many battles, but each of them, was a lesson to be learned. Each of them improving her skills. "A corporation that actually strives for medication with minimal side effects? Yeah, crazy right?" To have a corporation that didn't care about the bottom line was unheard of. Any CEO would be out of their mind to care about their people. Any pharmaceutical company would keep their medications with ailments so they would be on another pill, to deal with the first pill. But that wasn't how she saw things, it wasn't how Sato saw things. To keep people alive, meant to have customers that would return. If a prescription came and bettered their life, they would be open to other suggestions. That was how he succeeded. People who felt great were fine in being monitored for new possible advancement and further research. If it bettered their lives for a bit, then it would also help others. There was nothing to lose. There was only things to gain. "Just go to Tokyo General, say you want to participate in a Quirk Study as a subject." she would say, "It's non-invasive. I've done it." A pause in her words. Something near to none would understand, and even fewer would actually catch. She was once a participant in the testing, but by force. Her life dissections feeding off of her regeneration. All knowledge they possessed, and Kasey had used even now, to further the lives of others. She had used the research, from her torture, to save lives. It was dedication in every sense. The better lives people lived, the better world they all would have. She tucked the card away. Filing it away with the others. She took the bun from her pocket, and with two bites, would devour it before continuing with the conversation. "You'd need training first. Stick around at Yuuei. Eventually you'll find a hero to mentor you. Then you'll learn what hero you want to be." She'd smile, giving a small laugh for a moment, "But, if all goes well, you might be ahead of your class. After all, there's a few that work with K-Corp too."~ Word Count: 450 ~ |

With a smile Archibald realized the woman was smiling, not one as carefree as he hoped for, but one with more comfort behind it. From his own experience, every quirker that had the chance to learn from their quirk, were better for it. He nodded and with genuine interest he looked at the woman as he felt most reservations of his cultural sensitivity ebb away. "I wonder if you smile like that often... you do good work, so no matter what, you deserve that. I-I mean that is what I think." With a guilty look he averted his eyes to try to get his composure back. He was used to blunt and direct conversation. However this was him just blatantly spouting what came to mind. He agreed with every word, but felt that it sounded somewhat too personal. He looked up slowly as he took another bite. Trying to get his focus on everything as thin strands of water vapor, nearly invisible to the eye, emerged from his body. It was his way to focus, just such a small amount of water was easy to control, and let it not bother others. But it was a great way to empty the mind for a second before he looked back up to the lady, his face with a kind, charming smile he looked at her before he took the last food item out of the bag. His eyes not losing it's focus for a second as he mentioned something in a serious tone that did not match the happy tone he had been using until that moment. "I appreciate your time to talk to me. Its not easy for people to talk openly about these things. You see... I want to make sure even the people who kill and hurt others, get a chance to be understood and helped. We all know the world simply isn't as black and white as it sometimes seems... and I want to make a difference. You say other students have joined. Be honest, if I come over, would I be able to get an examination and actually help others with it. Could you tell me about yours? I don't often hear about other people's quirk." He then softened the tone as he let his deep gaze fall upon hers with a slow nod he signaled her that he would keep her words a secret if she wished for it.

Word choice. Carefully picking words could make your message mean more, or mean less. In some cases, for trying to make something overlooked, a softer choice of words. To bring attention, stronger words. To pick your allies and enemies required knowing a bit of what the person you talking to were. Were they someone who wanted evil, or good in the world? How good were they? Was it just about themselves? The more she spoke to people, the more she begun to understand them as a species. A feeling she didn't belong. The more she spoke with students, the less she felt human. Less than. But why?A smile. One cast in times of darkness and in light. She brushed her hair past her ear as she listened to the young boy. Or perhaps he was already a young man. In the coming years, time would tell, and her own plans would come to fruition. Her own meal now gone for the moment, only to sit quietly. She lifted a hand, her fingers straight as if to chop the bench between them. Her nails extended, and would mold and fuse together. "The bones in my body." she would say, "In addition to my regeneration, I control my bones. From small cartilage, to other fibers." Shapes would form from her nails, giving a shape of vines as they twisted until they formed a smaller dragon like creature before receding. "That and-" She reached out to the empty juice bottle she had set beside her, and placed the end of it in her mouth. Her teeth would grow into jagged sharp points as they would tear into the plastic, and rip it apart. "The fact I can practically eat anything is nice I suppose."Perhaps it was strange to showcase all of her weird quirks, but, if she was going to do things right, she had to be honest with him. ~ Word Count: 319 ~ |

The woman's quirk was one that he knew would mean she couldn't show it off to most people without them being devided. Some might have found it hard to stomach a sight like it, and other may see a reason to wish to impart such power to others. The boy simply looked at her and with a kind smile he replied to her."I think it is a beautiful quirk. A power that allows you to be more in touch with your body, and even helps you regenerate, means you get the chance to help even more people."The young man knew the feeling of having a quirk people couldn't always see. The moment a person changed their oppinion of you when they realized you bore a quirk, a devistating feeling to be sure. This woman sounded like she was managing, but everyone had a moment where that could weigh heavy on their soul. He turned his gaze up to the sky as he breathed out, a thin mist erupting from his mouth as he let his gaze fall down back to the corner of his eye where the woman sat. "I wonder if there will be a time where people can openly talk about these things, with everyone. It would be better that way. And you know... I think this tastes better than that plastic bottle."With a nod he tore his bread in half and with a broad smile he put it down in front of the woman, one half of a cream bread for her and the other half for himself. His head turned to the woman as he gave it. A second tuft of haze escaped him as he let his gaze turn to the woman and looked at her with a soft look. "You know, your quirk is likely completely different from mine, but I feel more understood all the same. You are a great listener."
He took a few bites from the bread he had left, seeing how it wasn't much, he finished it and looked at her. Wondering what her reaction would be.

"It's a bit more complicated than that." How she would have killed for a simple quirk like fire, lightning or even the cold touch. Any of them that didn't leave her body torn and misshapen, like a aberration of sorts. She might as well have been a demon, for that was how most people saw her. Most quirks didn't leave the user vulnerable, and those that did, were often villains. People who fought to make their weakness their strength. Others fed on the living like vampires. But in her case, what set her from those mistakes? She waved away the offering of bread. It wasn't that she was hungry. For her, it was just tasting the few moments of a street she didn't take the time to enjoy before. She had food at home, and she had the money to pay for more anyways. All she wanted was company for a little while. "The trash piles up, and sits forever." she said, taking another bite of the plastic. "At least this way, it's not festering a new bacteria at some dump." A weird choice of words, when it would leave her body by the same means. She smiled at the sentiment. "You can't learn if you aren't listening." she would say, "Even if your abilities are different than mine, there is something to be taken from it." She looked down at her hands. "Even I tend to avoid touching people when at work, hiding my hands in gloves, for safety reasons as well as medical. It would be one hell of a case if I scratched someone with claws or something." That was saying the least, but wasn't like she was in complete control all of the time. Sometimes she just mindlessly did things. To be careful was one thing, but to take precautions was another. She might not cause just discomfort, but a full injury with her quirk. But that was a different matter. ~ Word Count: 326 ~ |

With a polite nod Archibald took the bread he had offered and finished it off with a few more bites. The comment on trash one that he could only try to approach the understanding of. He looked at the lady and realized that she was likely very correct in her assumption. He looked at his own hands and then to her's. It took him only a moment before he looked up at her. "I can't wait to see the future that you are working for. To a future where no person has to worry about such a thing. Through understanding and progress."He took his own hands and with a small smile he wiped his mouth. The moment he did he realized his gloves were on and that for a moment that had looked perfectly normal. He looked back at his conversation partner's hands and with a moment of hesitation took his gloves off. He stretched out his hand and offered it to her in a proper handshake. One without gloves. "I am very happy to have met you. I feel that you have opened my eyes to some things. And perhaps one day we can both make the world better. You do well."He looked at his hand, proper yet vulnerable to not being taken. However more so to show Kasey that he was not afraid of his own, or her quirk. The judgement behind it at least. He did focus to make his hands more regulated, making the cold manageable for her touch."I do wish to ask, I would love to get the chance to learn from your experiences some more miss Setsuna. Would you be open to that some day?"With enough time for the woman to grab his hand and shake it, if so he would feel very pleased. However it not, he would retract his hand, and simply listen to her response.
