"Ya know I'm starting to think we might be out of a job soon."
At one of the more high end zoos located in Japan, the workers were doing the evening rounds, cleaning out the last handful of guests who hadn't gotten the warning they were closing, or the odd wacko who tried to hide and stay after hours to try and get in an animal cage or some other dumb crap like that. One such worker, Hanzo, rested his broom up against the side of the gift shop, resting his shoulders back against the wall and lighting a cigarette to enjoy to his own delight, his female co-worker, Yun, a part time employee, resting herself against the other wall acting as the 'frame' for the zoo's entrance, quirking her brow at Hanzo's comment.
"And how do you figure that exactly? I mean we landed a pretty sweet gig, nice zoo, nice clientele... I mean this job will last longer than you if you keep smoking those things." She smirked idly, watching as what seemed to be the last guest left between them and turning her attention back to her co-worker.
He shook his head and took a long drag of his cigarette. "Oh don't get me wrong, if any zoos gona survive it's one of these fancy ones. I mean we got elephants, monkeys-"
"We helped save the pandas."
"Everyone played their part in that don't put that on this place-" Hanzo raised his hands, not about to give this place any more credit than it was worth. "But I mean, yeah, pandas, tigers, Possums... that old ones going but I think the kids like seeing her. She's so worn out they're actually able to keep an eye on her, unlike all the ones that keep skittering about." Yun nodded slowly, though she did feel a little bad for the poor thing.
"Anyway." Hanzo continued, taking another breath of his cigarette before tossing it into the extinguishing pan ontop of one of the trashcans nearby, and grabbing his broom, idly starting to sweep up as he spoke. "Zoos are where people come to see things they otherwise wouldn't. The animals you don't get in the city, or seeing those rodents in what seems to be a more natural state of living. With all these quirks popping up you really think that'll still be the case? I mean I can walk outside and see some kid with an elephant trunk if I look hard enough. They're gonna be closing all these places down once people start getting tired of the freak show on their doorsteps I tells ya..."
He shook his head with a grumble as he continued to sweep up the entrance, Yun meanwhile briefly looking at him with disgust before grabbing her own broom and sweeping up in the opposite direction. "Yeeeeah er... I'm gonna make sure I don't get a shift with you again."

He wondered in shortly after through the main entrances, Having picked a odd time as to ensure no unruly or awful human children and customers were walking around as often or at all if he could help it. He recalled many a ugly snot nose child runt tossing peanuts or other snacks over the safety walls of the enclosures. Rarely ever reaching close to he or his kin but still the rude sights and past of this 'prison' zoo did haunt him at times. A reminder of the metaphorical latter he had to climb just for some recognition in the human world out of such minor standing that he and his people had normally... Reduced to novelty sights to make money... Humans... He'd snort lately as he kept to his inner thoughts and not to words just yet.
He wore his suit for now, a small overcoat over that. His little suitcase at his side as well with some money and other thing should he need to grease some wheels as he wasn't fully sure how things would go fully to plan or not. He waited in the shadows shortly and when the conversations would die down a bit he'd approach one of the workers from the shadows emerging from darkness and silence as he did so.
Of course even with his small trench coat and suit with his little briefcase. The mysterious look didn't really do much to hide who he was given his look and appearance were... rather distinct so to speak and easy to recognize whether someone was a full fledged fan or not. Approaching he did make himself known clearing his throat though.
"Hello, I am Perry P Possum, I called ahead before. Not sure if you're who I talked to on the phone or not. It's regarding your possum enclosure." He'd say simply enough in a soft tone without his normal animal gusto of wildness that seemed to be something he was lightly known for as well. But then again this wasn't exactly normal occasion either sadly.

(hey perry DEAD sorry I tagged you for this the other day but I didn't realize the post didn't send. Ive lost it so this re-do will be a bit brief by comparison)
Hanzo rolled his eyes as Yun dismissed what he thought to be at least a sound enough argument, adjusting the cigarette in his lips with a long drag and moving to brush up the entrance path of the zoo. Sure he may have kinda called quirked people zoo animals, but it was a changing time. People were adjusting and mutating and things were gonna change, he swore it. Sure he may be wrong in HOW they're gonna change but at least a few of his theories were sound as far as he was concer-...
He paused as someone addressed him, turning his head around at the clearing of a throat before turning his eyes down low to see... a talking possum addressing him. His lips started to part, barely catching his cigarette before it fell but looking at it suspiciously. Ugh, he'd let a mate roll this for him before he came to work. Probably snuck something in as a joke. "Aye get gone ya spooky git-" He flicked the still half lit cigarette in the possum's direction, but when he reacted as more than any illusion should, whether he dodged or batted away the lit smoke, he jolted back, realizing this thing was real and pointing the brush end of his broom at Perry's face with some alarm.
"HANZO!" Yun called out just barely arriving in time, kicking the shaft of the broom out of his hands and glaring him down. Despite being the less experienced part time worker she felt fairly confident holding a strong glare at him, gesturing to Perry. "You're pointing you're broom at a pro hero you dunce!"
"I... wha!? He's a talking rac-" He began, completely forgetting the difference between a possum and a raccoon in his confusion. Yun didn't take it, pointing to the monkey enclosure close to the entrance as she shoved the broom back into his hands.
"Monkey pen! Now."
Hanzo didn't have the confidence to argue, but he did mumble something about her not being his boss as he walked away. Yun brushing off the front of her uniform and crouching down to address him on his level, hoping that'd be in some way polite, offering her hand. "I'm Yun. Sorry I'm not the one you spoke to... I am right in thinking you're paw might right? Not confusing you with another hero?" She asked cautiously, before smiling as he likely confirmed that. "Do you remember the name of who you spoke to or anything?"

He felt a little taken back with wide eyes as the clothed critter attempted to take a step back. Gearing up to defend himself as once again his life those blasted dust cleaner brooms was coming straight for him. These things had been a bane of his existence when he'd first escaped the zoo in what felt like a eternity passed now. He crouched preparing to attack or defend. It was a bit surprising as he hadn't expected such reactions anymore but of course to expect all of humanity to know his situation or of the pro hero was foolish in its own right.
Thankfully another had removed the dusty weapon before things had escalated. Perry a bit surprised in his expression but remaining calm all the same. Given the present situation he didn't have as big of a fighting spirit as he did at any other time normally. He slid his hands back in his pockets with a calm demeanor as things quickly became settled. Trying to look professional in his tiny standing as the new arrival explained the situation. At least someone knew of him thankfully. It felt nice in its own way as well of recognition.
He looked up after watching the younger stranger being take his leave as he dealt with this other human now. "The conversation was brief, I don't remember who exactly but it has to do with the... Situation in the possum enclosure. Assuming you've been informed that is about my situation as well?" He could have outright explained but given the serious tension and emotions of it all. He'd rather just see if he could spare them and himself a bit of the pain and other details hoping they'd been informed somewhat at least. For now he stood looking up in his clothing and tiny suitcase at his side.

Yun offered a polite smile even as she heard Hanzon storming off behind her, not wanting to show any disrespect to the diminutive hero and listening to him explain the situation, a frustrated look, though in no way aimed at him, forming on her features. “Sorry I’m only part time, they don’t really think to give me the memos…” She hummed in thought for a moment, trying to think who might have information on that before holding up a finger to the tiny hero. “Just a second okay?”
Pulling away from the conversation and returning to her full height, Yun pulled out a small radio and held a mildly private conversation off to the side, sometimes glancing back to the pro hero who had rocked up to the zoo and just offering a reassuring smile to give the impression she was making some progress, though from the time it took it was reasonable to assume she possibly got bumped between 3-4 different people looking for an answer here, but her tone definitely picking up a little towards the end.
“Oh no no its okay. We all forget to give our names now and then so don’t worry about it. Okay. Over and out.” Hanging up the Radio link she offered Perry a warm smile and gestured for him to follow. “Alright, full permissions for the possum enclosure. Do you want a guide? I don’t imagine we’ve moved it since you er… last.. ‘visited’, I guess?”
Sounded a lot better than saying ‘locked up for people to gawk at’ but when she said it out loud it sounded… wrong in some way. Like she was making light of a situation she shouldn’t and while that was in no way the intent she definitely felt a bit guilty about it, evident enough in her expressions alone.

He would have perhaps been a little more angry or snappy at such tactics. The broom in the face in the past had been a thing he always remembered before he was seen as a citizen by the law and allowed to have all that came with such a legality as well. But given the situation, circumstances, and the severity of the day it was merely a trivial annoyance he allowed to slide down his back and down his tail and quickly forgotten as well.
"I don't need a guide now, Simply allowed in and some privacy as to what all is allowed. An discretion is always appreciated as well, Thank you." He'd say simply with as much professionalism as he could muster. He would follow along easy enough his small suit and suitcase at his side. He felt he was gonna need a drink or two after all of this... or two or three depending. He was relatively quiet as well as he followed a bit quickly in toe behind her walking on two legs though instead of all four given his suitcase he presently had. The walls of the zoo and its many enclosures weren't new to him in a variety of ways from both the point of view outside and within the enclosures. He allowed himself to sigh as he followed along forward towards the goal. Hoping he could go through with it well enough as hard as it might be.

“No guide. Got it.” She gave an affirmative little nod, very much ready to leave the possum but… realizing very quickly how dumb an idea that was, lowering the edge of her uniform’s ‘cap’ over her eyes as she chuckled to herself. “Sorrry I… I was just thinking I’d let you go there yourself but you still need me for the keys huh?” She shook her head a little and turned on her heels to walk towards the possum enclosure. She’d briefly thought someone like a super Hero as Pawmight was might just be able to jump the fence. Buuuut she soon remembered the possums had one of the indoor enclosures. Tended to be best for critters who scurried about a lot and were kinda agile and at times, unpredictable.
“Er… here. I think my boss’ll want me to keep an eye on you… without meaning to be rude she’d wanna make sure you don’t try and ‘prison break’ or something but… I’ll just keep my back to the door. You can just knock when you wanna be let out.” She turned her keys and unlocked the backdoor they’d typically use to feed the possums and adjust their enclosure, easing off to the side to let Pawmight in, not wanting to disrespect him and sure to close the door slowly behind him so she didn’t come off as rude.

It was true given he wanted to do things properly and not get in any trouble. Having someone properly walk him to the enclosure and open all the proper lock and keys. He could have done this sneakily or with some force but such actions would have possibly just made it all worse if anything slipped up or didn't go perfectly as planned. The more he adjusted to the life and citizenship he lived now the more he had to do things properly and by the law. At least for the most part...
"I appreciate your kindness and discretion, I know this is a odd request and equally unconventional circumstances. I have no intention either of doing anything bad or break outs. You have my word, As well as such as to why I chose to come through openly and in a direct fashion. But you have my word I'll try and not make any trouble for you." He'd say to the kind woman. Trying to appear somewhat gracious for her respect in the matter at hand.
He'd give her a nod as they moved forward before the door eventually closed behind him. Immediately once the door was closed and he was within mostly the familiar smells flooded in his nostrils and a sense of nostalgia both pleasing and saddening taking over. It caused him to gulp lightly as the sense of something metaphorically stuck in his throat set in. Eventually settling like a rock in his stomach. One of the internal pains and struggles of being so close yet so different and far from his own people.
He'd take the time in the small corner near the feeding area to remove his suit slowly folding it neatly and cleanly in his suitcase before latching the fine case shut and shoving it in the corner near the door for later. Given he was the only one of these possums that could speak it wouldn't be that hard for him to make himself known if anyone came in. For now he prepared himself mentally as best he could steeling his heart as he moved forward.
When he was down to his natural body he prepared himself shoving his natural ideas to the back of his head and embracing his native tongue for the moment. Things were simple... He would wonder slowly into the enclosure on all fours again all of it... like slipping on a old pair of shoes one might say it. Sniffing in the air searching for a scent he'd never forget. For a little while... he'd be who he was so long ago when he was a tiny baby. He knew what was happening even if he who he was looking for didn't understand in these final days. For now he sniffed the air looking for her naturally as he walked through the enclosure on all four of his little pink feets.

(sorry if this is a bit short, I wasn't really sure how to play the possums)
Down to his bare essentials Perry may have felt like he was slipping on an old pair of shoes, but to the inhabitants of this little zoo exhibit it was like putting on golf shoes to a fancy high class party. Both high end items of footwear arguably, but definitely not right. Snouts began to pop out of the hiding spaces of the enclosure, rougher looking examples of the possum race easing out of their hidey holes, growing closer with cautious sniffs. Even if Perry rolled about in the dirt right now he'd still be coated in foreign scents... and while a human coated in such scents was natural to them, Perry was like... a pod person. Close to their own kind but something alien and offputting about him.
One of the possums, one Perry might recognize as something akin to a brother back when he was here himself, hissed at Perry. Taking the defensive to this apparent stranger in their enclosure. If Perry could still understand the 'language of his people' so to speak, they'd effectively be telling him to back off and leave, seeing this odd smelling example of their race as just some foreign entity they couldn't trust.

He didn't resist the snoots and sniffers that had come his way. He had somewhat expected this a little given his smell wouldn't likely be to familiar as well as he wasn't one they'd fully recognize. A new comer in several ways but as he moved slowly and softly one step at a time with the patter of small fuzzy pink feet. The sway of his tail slow and soft upon the soft dirt and grass bellow their feet in this enclosure from yesterdays long past. He would approach and back up several times much like a new comber trying to appear strong but also not hostile to lean into things.
One of the several siblings he had that would many of them be in their adult ages as well now without his gifts of evolution would still be recognized lightly. Perry offering a strong hiss as a warning but also communication. Swaying lightly where he stood as his tail swayed lightly behind him dusting a bit of dirt from here to there. His small paws and claws lightly digging into the ground bellow kicking up a little dirt and communicating as non hostile in manners as he could. The wide grinned hiss and display of his many teeth a sign of power and warning. He attempted to be careful making him self appear as large as he could as well. His muscular frame while still a Opossum in looks was a bit more muscular due to his quirk and the odd experiments he'd been forced to through against his will.
He hoped his display would work properly as a fight would make the reason he was here not only moot but truly scorned. While his behaviors of his people were a bit rusty so to speak. He would always be one of them so hopefully his skills weren't too rusty so to speak.

The possums could recognize the acts of strength mixed with non-hostility, but to see such a muscular example of their own race was intimidating in it's own right. For any other 'new comer' to the enclosure they may have seen these signs and acts as enough to allow them cautious entrance into the pack so to speak, but it was the equivalent of kittens looking to a tiger cub. They were the same, but also... so so different, and it was only natural for them to be a little timid and scared.
From the dug out dens in the back of the enclosure, a cautious sniff of the air brought out the curiosity of one of the possums too tired to move out with the rest of them, twitching little sniffs bringing their head to rise up, before letting out a mewling call out to the other creatures. Perry might very well recognize the tone of that call, the 'voice' behind it... but time had certainly aged it beyond what he may recall.
Slowly, looking to eachother, the initial wave of possums slowly backed away. They didn't seem to accept Perry, but with the call from an older member of their little tribe it was clear he had gained access to enter deeper. They would watch him cautiously, following behind him when he walked past the semi circle they had made to surround him, always remaining out of a swipe's reach but close enough that he still got a sense he was surrounded... even if in the end it would be very easy for him to face these odds.
In the back of the den, a tired Possum with frayed hair and tiny specks of bald patches would be resting on her side, laying in against a dirt wall. She still had the energy to rise to her feet but at this moment she didn't see the urgency to expend it, her dazed eyes flicking to Perry as he entered the hovel, another quiet, mewling sound coming from her, shifting to more clearly meet his eyes... their was a hint of recognition. She sniffed the air again, but it was... she had the points, she had the pen, but her brain still had to fully connect those dots...
Perry had most certainly been recognized but, as intelligent as Possums could be they were still very much animals, and while his mother knew she felt a connection of sorts, it had been a long time, and to have a child become what Perry had? it was not something any example of her species could ever be prepared to process.

He would allow a small snort kicking up a little dirt with his back paws briefly. Not advancing quickly when others backed away and opened up somewhat. Tension was lowered at least as more familiar elderly scents wafted into the air. When he was good and ready and calm about approaching he'd slowly begin taking a few steps forward. Moving through the enclosure in a calm sauntering pace. Not to quickly and calm in his pace as if he belonged their natural and calm in each food step of his small fuzzy paws. His nose sniffing and whiskers frazzled lightly. He kept his beady eyes looking around often too calmly but still keeping a keen eye on his surroundings and his neck on a calm pivot. He wanted to avoid confrontation of a violent nature.
He would approach in moments the den of the elderly Possum in the back. His head kept low as a sign of respect and making small purring sounds as well as a sign of endearment. His tail swaying lightly behind him softly upon the ground as he would come closer and backup a step from time to time to make sure his pacing was both casual and calm. It was a long time since he was in a position or environment such as these and such actions were still normal in such times. The cool soft ground and dirt bellow his feet remained littered with his heavy paw prints and where his claws dug up small bits here and there as he approached.
His breath was calm but soon he'd be close enough for the old sniffer and eyes to see him clearly as he waited calmly purring a little outside of the den. Waiting and softly purring as if asking for the proper clearance to come closer and approach without risk or hassle.

The elderly possum in the back barely recognized that scent, like a half forgotten memory but as Perry came into their hazy view the idea became clearer. The small intricacies, the modifications that made Perry different from his brothers and sisters made her easily remember who this was. Briefly, a low growl flowed from her throat. Not innately angry or dismissive, but there was a clear sense of discomfort there for a moment. At the sign of this, the possums that now surrounded Perry from the back end began to growl a little more viciously themselves, only for something close to a bark to come out from the elder, followed by a dry, withered hiss as she pushed up to her feet.
She was unsure... uncertain... unclear... but this was still a scent she recognized. A possum she recognized. She pushed out from her little den, dragging her knuckles as she struggled to lift any limb more than just barely enough to take a step, and another, and another, falling almost gracefully into a slump next to the returned child, breathing slowly and deeply. She was old and she was tired... but that wasn't a reason to hold onto anger or the like. She closed her eyes, still with a fair few days, maybe weeks in her, but still incredibly tired at this given moment, just shifting her head closer to invite Perry to Nuzzle with her.

It was a calm and slow thing to watch as well as a little painful. Perry simply watched keeping his snoot low and his body language welcoming always in the back of his mind making sure he didn't appear hostile and only strong looking encase anyone wished to snort or hiss. Thankfully the worst reactions seemed to have already passed as he moved closer as well. It was a bit strange having to slip on a whole other life style he had long sense literally evolved beyond. But family was family in some sense and blood as well as familial bonds had a way of calling people back at times. So with a inward silent sigh he approached giving soft sniffs and a warm soft bit of fur brushing from his side against his mother after he approached.
His movements calm and relaxed as not to startle her and the familiar scent from long past yesteryears giving him a nostalgic rush. He'd approach and calmly relax beside her as the prodigal son returned briefly to the fold. A joey long lost back now at it's mother's side in a time of rest. He would for a time be a sensation of warmth and comfort to he's pained mother. Remaining close and wanting to be a sense of comfort and have some mental memory to remember her as well after coming days when such returns like this would eventually sadly no longer be possible. This was simply a time... to be near.
