The sun shone overhead, having passed it's highest point the time was currently somewhere in the afternoon. Now would be the time for students to be heading home or to their dormitories after having finished extracurricular activities. Those working regular jobs would be punching out and preparing to return home to their families so that they might settle down for the night. At least that's what the case would be if you were native to the area or knew your way around. Unfortunately, Radimir was neither of those things. What he was however was lost. A bit embarrassing to admit considering he was holding a map that clearly wasn't doing him much good. Japan was a vastly different beast from his homeland of Russia, even with all the moving around he did growing up navigating there seemed like a cakewalk. Although aside from being in a completely different part of the world he was also now in a big city compared to more rural or countryside towns as he'd grown accustomed to. This wasn't the best way to start off his arrival to his new life, but he'd find a way to manage. Thankfully his possessions had already been delivered to the dorms ahead of time so he didn't have to worry about lugging all that junk around with him. It would have been impossible actually. But maybe his inability to move around in that situation would have been beneficial, at least it seemed better than being lost. He'd already been at this for a few hours and didn't seem to be making any headway. Continuing down the road the sound of his combat boots pressing against the ground echoed ever so slightly through the air. He hadn't noticed it before but the place he was in was currently rather quiet all things considered.
A few more steps and he came to a sudden halt. Anyone who happened to be looking at him would have seen the look of realization briefly spread across his face. Flipping the map over he realized he'd been looking at the damned thing upside down. Pinching the bridge of his nose lightly with his index and thumb he exhaled audibly. Normally he was the type to not let things get to him and especially not let it show to others, but even he couldn't help but feel like a complete moron right about now. His Japanese still needed some work as his mother had only recently started teaching him. He thought he'd been doing fine picking up on it but obviously he could stand to do a little more studying. Folding the map up and tucking it into an inner pocket of the large trench coat he was wearing he glanced around. A sign caught his eye and he tried to read it the best he could. "Kabuchoko? No that's not right. Kabichiku? No that definitely sounds wrong. Kabu...kicho? I think that's it." Regardless of whatever this city was called it wasn't like he knew where he was standing either. It wasn't the high school though and so his journey was still likely to be a long one.
The sound of his stomach grumbling interrupted his thoughts and he placed a hand over it. It'd been a while since he'd eaten, so he should probably look into getting some food before trying to find his way. Beginning to enter into Kabukicho his eyes darted around, not only for a sign indicating food, but to be aware of his surroundings. Something about this place didn't seem all too inviting. Truthfully though, he figured the same thing could be said about him.

can i offer you a tangerine in these trying times? DURING THE DAY, SHILOH WAS left to his own devices—Bishop and Wesker were busy people, or canids, or whatever the heck they felt like being at the time. They had to scrounge for food, fruit included, and Shiloh had to stay out of trouble.
Of course, things could grow very boring, very quickly, when your only directive was “stay out of trouble”. Besides, the area that they were in today—decidedly the “rough part of town”—had very little to do. No playgrounds. No comfy places to nap. No people to talk to. Shiloh could only eat so many mandarins before becoming sick of those, too.
So the bat decided to take a walk—the sun was low, which meant Wesker and Bishop would be back for him soon. They would be back at sunset, Wesker had assured the child, so Shiloh shouldn’t wander too far.
The little bat leapt from the fire escape where their belongings had been stashed, hidden in garbage bags to detract attention, and he waddled out of the mouth of the alleyway, clutching a mostly-polished bag of mandarins.
Kabukicho was such a funny place to walk around. There were ladies in funny clothes and mean-looking men—buildings with neon lights that looked just like amusement parks but inside! How could Shiloh get in-trouble in such a wonderful place?!
As often happened when Shiloh walked crowded sidewalks, he walked headlong into the legs of another person. The bat reeled backwards, nearly stumbling but managing to catch himself.
“Par-don me,” the bat said in stilted Japanese, bowing faintly.
He was answered by the yowl of the person’s stomach. Oh!
The child blindly prodded at the net of the mandarin bag, bumbling claws bumping-against plastic mesh a few times before finding the opening. He grabbed a mandarin and held it up to the person, without lifting his head. An apology, a tangerine offering, for bumping-into them!

Kabukicho was exactly what one could expect of some seedy downtown area within the big city. This must have been the 'red-light' district that seemed to exist in every corner of the world for one reason or another. He could see plenty of business bustling for after hour festivities and fun he had no business being a part of. Plenty of rather burly looking guards made sure to allow only the finest patrons within establishments and Rad could hear the inviting calls and cheers of women trying to lure in any unsuspecting visitors. Something told him however that if you were in this part of town that you knew exactly what you were getting into. Unless of course you were some dumb foreign kid who had gotten lost and was currently rummaging around the streets for a place to eat. Most people barely paid him any mind, the rougher and more rugged individuals glancing over at him briefly before shrugging their shoulders. Some women here and there tried to invite him over but he pretended like he couldn't hear them. He could guess as to what they'd offer but would prefer not to think about it too heavily.
The sound of rustling coming from an alleyway caught his attention and he glanced over to try and identify the source. The only thing that really stuck out was the fire escape of some building but as far as he could tell no one was there. Maybe they'd climbed in through a window and he'd just missed them? Or perhaps it could have just been someone, without any sort of regard for the planet and the standards held by society, discarding trash into the vacant alleyway. Someone would probably have a use for it if that were the case. He could hear the sound of a man puking his guts out not too far away, somewhere up the road and most likely within a very similar alleyway. Something about that reminded him of home.
The feeling of something colliding with his legs surprised him but he showed no indication of being caught off guard. Instead he merely looked down at his feet and was met with the sight of a human sized bat about a child's height looking up at him. Blinking slowly he allowed his mind to register what he was currently seeing before regaining his senses. He looked around to see if there could be anyone missing a child even though he found that hard to believe given the location they were in. Offering an apology the small creature had offered him something he'd taken out of a mesh bag. It was a mandarin. Taking it Rad wasn't really sure where to begin with this situation. "Thank you, just try to be more careful kid." Beginning to peel the mandarin he kept a careful lookout in case of anything. "Are you uh, alone out here? Lost maybe? This doesn't seem like the kind of place someone as small as you should be wandering around in." Removing the skin of the mandarin he took a part of it and tossed it into his mouth, savoring the flavor as he chewed down on it. "This is really good."

can i offer you a tangerine in these trying times? SHILOH'S HEART FLUTTERED AGAINST HIS RIBS, his ears twitching this way and that, listening for the familiar skitter of paws on the pavement—or maybe Bishop and Wesker were walking around as people right now, who knew? He vaguely recalled the brothers’ warning about how this wasn’t a nice place, that people here couldn’t be trusted, and here Shiloh had just bumped into one… but he seemed alright! He really did! And he took the mandarin! That was good, right?
The man—if his voice was anything to go by—thanked Shiloh for his offering. The bat bowed slightly at the waist. Shiloh knew “Thank you”. He also knew “Be careful,” thanks to his… tendency to be clumsy. But hey, relying entirely on echolocation and bad eyesight, you were bound to run-into things (and people!) too.
The words that followed were… less straightforward. A question. A question. A statement. None of which Shiloh understood. (In his defense, neither he nor the brothers spoke Japanese, so who was going to teach him?) Uhh… the child wrung the plastic mesh between his claws as the teen spoke, floundering for what to say or do. If Wes and Bishop were here, they’d know exactly what to say! Why was this so hard?!
“I don’t know!” the boy chirped, the simmering panic clear in his tone, “Pardon me, goodbye!”
He was really using his whole repertoire of Japanese, even if they didn’t really answer the teen’s line of questioning. Shiloh wasn’t aware of how suspicious this might seem—a child, unaccompanied in Kabukicho, and unable to speak the predominant language of the area?
The child bowed again, hoping that his answers and his mandarin-offering were sufficient. The child would attempt to skitter past and continue down the sidewalk. Maybe it would be better if he just… did a lap around the block, then went back to the hiding place? He should’ve just waited for Wesker and Bishop, like he’d been told to…this was awful.

At first the small creature, or perhaps small child would be less rude in this case, didn't seem to react much to Rad's words. Their head remained hanging low as if scared or ashamed of the little mishap of having bumped into him. Honestly it wasn't that big a deal but they were acting as if something serious had happened. Or maybe they were just really timid and didn't know how to handle the current situation. That made two of them he supposed. No matter how he tried to justify things in his head there wasn't really any reason he could think of for a child being around here. Unless dwarfism was a side effect of their physiology, in that case he could be speaking to someone far older than him for all he knew. But their silence wasn't really doing him any favors. Glancing about it didn't seem like anybody was really paying attention to them, they had plenty of adult matters to be attending to one way or another.
After a period of silence sound finally escaped the bat child. They sounded scared and unsure but the reason for that seemed fairly obvious to the blue eyed foreigner. The kid had spoken in Japanese but it was rather broken and lacked any sort of confidence to it. That only raised more questions but he decided on the answer to them fairly quickly. Best as he could tell this one lived on the streets and didn't really have a home to call his own. Sure that was quite the assumption but it was the only scenario that fit given their circumstances. The kid tried to sneak past him but with his open hand Rad extended it to block the way around him. Sighing for a moment he grabbed another piece of the mandarin and tossed it into his mouth. Japanese didn't seem like it was going to get him anywhere and he highly doubted the child was able to speak Russian, so there was only one option he had left. "You should at least learn how to say you can't speak in Japanese." He'd now changed to speaking in English and his words had lost the touch of roughness to them and were much more clearly understandable, so long as the little bat could speak the language of course.
Finishing chewing he crouched down to be as level as he could with the child and although his expression was rather stern he softened up a bit and offered a smile. "I was asking if you were lost is all. Wanted to know why you're out here all alone, this seems like a pretty dangerous place." Despite his demeanor being kinder and more relaxed he still was keeping an eye out to make sure nobody would be trying any funny business. "My name is Radimir, Rad for short so it's easier. What's your name, kid?" He tossed the remainder of the mandarin into his mouth and began to chew it slowly as he awaited a response, hopefully he'd be getting more than just a phrase here or there this time. Although, if this was a bust too he had no idea how he was going to communicate with the child and it wasn't like he could just leave them out here.

can i offer you a tangerine in these trying times? THE BAT TRIED TO SCURRY past, but the boy stuck his arm out. The arm, too thin to be seen clearly with echolocation, was unavoidable. Shiloh collided with it, then stumbled back in alarm, scrunching his nose and shaking his head.
When the boy—Radimir—switched to English, the bat thinned his eyes. Nobody liked being reprimanded, particularly for things that they weren’t capable of. And Radimir seemed like trouble—he asked too many questions, and was healthily suspicious of the lone creature. Shiloh considered his routes of escape—he didn’t know when the brothers would be back. He couldn’t run very fast—and if he flew away, he would definitely lose the things that Wesker and Bishop had told him to watch.
His only option was to try and talk his way out of it, but even Shiloh knew he wasn’t that conniving.
“I don’t understand,” the child insisted stubbornly, in Japanese. Shame on the boy for assuming Shiloh didn’t know how to say that much.
The boy bowed his head, staring at the ground. Of course, if he understood Radimir’s reprimand in English, the other boy would figure-out that the bat could speak English. So the child offered only a scant amount of more information.
“And I’m not alone.”
He spoke English now, his tone husky with sulkiness.
"I'm lost. I'm looking for my brothers."
That was what Wesker and Bishop had told him to say, if anyone was ever suspicious of him-- that he was looking for his brothers. No one would have the audacity to argue over whether or not a mutant was related to non-mutant counterparts. It was, in a way, the perfect lie.
That did not, however, change how good of a liar Shiloh was. He looked at his feet, seemingly uncomfortable by the line of inquiry.
