Danica took the day to herself; she was caught up on her schooling and she had been sociable most of the time so far. But she needed a day to herself. Something that she could do as a treat to herself. Waking up and getting ready for the day she slowly made her way out of the dorms near noon and made her way to town. Not in a particular rush she decided to walk and enjoy the day.
As she moved down the road, she took the time to Reflect back on her time at the school and her move to japan. It had certainly been a bit of a Rough road, but she was happy she had stuck it out though she was still not too much further on finding friend, sure Luna was a very Sweet girl, she still had not gone to go and knock on her door, and she seemed to be either to busy or didn’t want to bother Danica either.
Encroaching upon the town she decided the best way to treat herself was to get a coffee and have lunch out on the patio, after all it was a lovely day and her pale skin could always use a touch of sun, if anything it would help break her from the Stereotype of a vampire, a comparison she absolutely loathed, but unlike her school back in Canada no one seemed to call her out on that, or tried to work it into a mockery quite yet.
Once she had made her way into town and stopped at the café she stepped out onto the patio and set herself up, placing her bookbag onto the back of her chair and resting her legs up on the chair opposite of her, after all no one was going to use it, yet she felt slightly guilty after recalling her mothers words. ~ its unladylike and rude, no one wants to sit where your feet have been~ Rang out mentally as she moved her feet down and pulled a book from her bag, and placed it beside her plate and coffee.
Danica took a deep breath inhaling the fumes off her coffee, its robust smell was quite refreshing when mixed with the salt in the air, something about the combination seemed to be calming. She looked at the turkey club she ordered and picked at the top bun, which seemed fresh and had small poppy seeds littering the top section of her sandwich. Her side was a small pasta salad, something she didn’t particularly want but seemed better than the other sides offered.

LONELY TOGETHER THE UNFORGIVING LIGHT OF THE MID-MORNING cast harsh bars of light across Nimue’s bed, outlining the hills and valleys of where U.A.’s nurse lay. Behind the bend in her knees, a small, flattened sphere of black rose and fell periodically, but was otherwise motionless. The faintest of snores could be heard from the furry, black orb.
Outside, the scream of a car horn. Kuro’s head lifted attentively, grass-green eyes blinking groggily. A horn? The cat unspooled himself, yawning. He got to his feet and stretched the sleepiness away. He’d polished his food bowl clean last night—so if he wanted breakfast, he’d need the help of someone with thumbs.
Kuro walked oh-so carefully along the length of Nimue’s body, before settling upon her shoulder.
“Nimue~ hey, Nimue~” the cat sang softly. When the blue-haired woman didn’t respond, the cat lightly patted her cheek with his paw, “Ni-mu-eeeeeeee~”
The nurse groaned and rolled over, sending the cat toppling to the comforter below.
Fiiiiine then. Kuro rolled to his feet again, padding to edge of the bed and jumping down.
They had systems for situations like these. For example—Kuro strode out into the main living-space, towards the dinette by back the door. He leapt onto the table, surveying a chart at its center. It was a spinning wheel chart, much like one would find in a childrens’ game. The main difference was that, rather than directions, the items on the chart were locations and actions. At its axis, a plastic arrow that Kuro could push with his paw.
Kuro nudge the arrow with his paw, pushing it until it pointed to “Adventure!”
It was a compromise that he and Nimue had worked-out—if he left while she was asleep or away, he was supposed to tell her where he was. Kuro was certainly not an indoor cat, but Nimue didn’t take kindly to the cat randomly disappearing.
From there, Kuro’s adventure whisked him all around town, through the residential. He’d taken some kibbles from some other, hapless cat’s bowl, and some water too. It smelled like raccoons had been in it, too, so Kuro hardly felt guilty. And then he found himself in the shopping district, residential homes giving way to buildings of commerce. The city was exciting, but also dangerous—so many cars, so many people with dogs—Kuro kept to the quiet alleys and the fringes. He would only stop to calculate his next move and then run to his next vantage point.
Busy people were hurrying past, too preoccupied to notice a miniscule black kitten near their feet. He moved quickly, close to the wall where he wouldn’t risk getting stepped-on. Of course, that meant he was easy to see—a shiba spied him and let out a few short barks. Kuro went scurrying, claws out amidst his retreat. He took shelter in a café patio, sparsely populated by patrons. If anything, the tables and chairs would inhibit the dog, if it chased.
It… didn’t seem to be chasing him.
The cat remained, back arched, against the wall, eyes wide. Once he calmed himself, he was finally able to assess the area—such a nice café, with such nice people food! Perhaps he could sucker some of these sucker into sharing? The cat wrapped around the legs of the tables and chairs, his nose to the air as he perused the scents—oo, turkey!
The girl dropped her feet, and the cat leapt into the chair that the feet had previously occupied, sitting primly in the seat.
“Meeeewww?” Kuro cried sweetly, fully aware of what he was doing. From this vantage point, he could barely see onto the tabletop.

Danica’s feet moved off the chair, and leaned down to pull a book from her bag and place it on the table, as she got back to a seated position she noticed the black cat sitting opposite of her. Having been oblivious to the hardship the cat seemed to be having she would look at him with eyes open wide. Her green iris’s shifted as she looked at the cat in disbelief. What as a cat doing here, was it the café’s maybe she thought before looking back to her sandwich. Though a Meow sounded as she looked away, which took her attention again “ yes?” she would ask tilting her head slightly as she watched the cat with curiosity. “I bet you want some of this don’t you” she said, talking as if the cat would answer her, before picking up the top bun and finding a piece of turkey with none of the condiments on it. She would shred it into a few pieces and make a click with her tongue a few times “ Tck tck tck, here” she produce to grab the cats attention before tapping her finger nail onto the chair beside her, where she placed the first piece of 4 she had divided off the sandwich.
From there she would wait as she flipped her book open and to her bookmark. ~ Applied Kinesiology~ was the cover the would be seen as she held the cover page open for a moment and then picked it up using her hand that didn’t touch the turkey, and brushing her hand off her jeans making sure not to get food on her books pages.
Although it was a day for herself, she could never stop learning, it wasn’t that she didn’t understand it but she wanted it committed to memory, she wanted to learn in a way that made each thought command all of the information she knew, the ability to remember everything was something she was quite Envious of, after all she tried very hard to achieve even a resemblance of that extraordinary talent. For her it was her future, a doctor didn’t have time to look up each thing as it came up they had to have it memorized, and A hero would be no different, you hardly had time to think of a plan sometimes let alone math out a route or find a solution. It had to be Memorized.
Danica would sigh as she looked from the book back to the turkey she placed on the chair beside her. If the cat didn’t approach she would wait and continue to read, if it did come closer she would pay it a bit more attention. Her thoughts hardly on her book as she kept glancing up to see if it moved or ran off. She was willing to share but it wasn’t going to be for nothing, she wanted to pet him, and she would wait until it got closer to continue to entice it with food.

LONELY TOGETHER THE GIRL ANSWERED KURO'S PLEA with a patient yes, followed by an offering of her sandwich. Kuro rose onto his hind legs, placing his front legs upon the tabletop to get a better look at the sandwich. When the girl lifted the top bun of the sandwich, Kuro smelled—and saw—a number of ingredients. The most prevalent was the mild, somewhat-salty scent of turkey. Turkey!
It wasn’t his first choice of meat, by any means, but meat was meat. Kuro’s tail rose with curiosity, and he uttered another, more insistent, “Meeeewwww.”
Yes, lady, give the cat the turkey, and no one would get hurt. In his eagerness, and in fear of the dog that had just given Kuro chase, the cat would leap onto the tabletop rather than the ground, as the girl intended.
He kept his nose low to the iron café table, following it towards the sandwich. The girl had deposited the turkey on the ground, distractedly opening her book, and Kuro—ever the opportunist—was going for the sandwich. How would she reconcile that?
Whether she reacted meanly or calmly, the cat would draw its nose back from the plate, taking a seat upon the tabletop. Eating off of the ground? How undignified! He wasn’t one to dine and dash, but he wasn’t one to eat off of the pavement, either. If she were to set that same piece of turkey on the tabletop, though—now, that was a different story.

Danica flipped the page of her book before turning her attention to the turkey she had placed on the chair beside her, but the black cat opted for climbing up onto the table. Though Danica wasn’t sure its intention until it started to head straight for the sandwich, at this point she would snap her fingers at the cat “ no,no over here” she would point down onto the chair she had moved the turkey to. “ you have some here, once you finish that we can negotiate about more” she would response to the cat, before taking a second to look about to see if people might be watching her.
What was worse was the feeling that someone might mistake the cat as hers, and give her trouble for it being in the café, but it wasn’t something she was going to try and figure out at this moment, she was too busy at this moment.
With the cat taking a seat on the table instead of where she intended, she did another quick survey to see if anyone might be watching before moving the shredded turkey onto the table before him “ alright this time its okay, but next time you have to sit on the chair, or youll get me in trouble” she spoke to the cat, before looking back at her book. Taking the time to look at the chapter questions before flipping the page and closing her eyes to think about the answer.
Opening her eyes up again she would look for the cat before asking. “ what is used to treat hypertension?” She asked the cat, though she was purely using the cat as a wall to bounce idea’s off of. “ i have it narrowed down to wither beta blockers or calcium channel blockers. . . What do you think?” She asked before looking at he sandwich, thinking it might be a fun way to play the game, is that if she got the answer right she would take a bite but if she got it wrong she would make the cats day.

LONELY TOGETHER IT WAS A CONTEST OF WILL. The girl snapped her fingers at the cat, to which Kuro simply flicked an ear and took a stubborn seat upon an open spot of tabletop. No one told Kuro what to do, particularly not a stranger. Even if they were a stranger with turkey. Kuro tilted his chin up at the woman and thinned his eyes, feline disdain written clearly upon his features.
Finally, the girl buckled, depositing the turkey onto the tabletop after a cursory glance around. Kuro stood up again and eagerly scarfed the offering down once it was where he wanted it to be, his tail raised high with his delight.
The girl asked Kuro some nonsensical question about treating an affliction, to which Kuro licked his whiskers. As if he knew the answer—he didn’t even know what those words meant. The cat padded closer to the girl, using his grass-green eyes to survey the page. He would survey the small, uniform print for a moment, before placing a delicate paw upon the corner of the page.
Assuming there were no immediate protests, the cat would begin to inch onto the splayed book, before settling soundly upon its peak, assuming a “cat loaf” position.
If Danica protested, however, Kuro would hunker down next to the book, and next to the sandwich, and drape his head over the corner of the text. His black fur was warm from the sun, and he looked entirely too satisfied with himself over inconveniencing this diligent student.
Kuro flicked his tail, a quiet purr starting to grow in his chest.

The cat clearly was having none of her instructing, finally caving and bring the turkey to it, the cat seemed to scarf it down with vigor.
After no more then a minute of trying to study she would quickly find a cat pushing his way onto her textbook. She would slowly raise her hands up and out to the side as if to ask ~why~ but she didn’t say anything immediately, and thus lost the battle, the cat assumed the ~cat loaf~ position over her text. Slowly she placed her hand down on her lap and tilted her posture to look closer at the cat, a distinct low rumbling purr starting. “ well i guess that’s a sign to take a break, if ever I seen one” she would pause looking at the page number before leaning back and stretching her arms back behind her head sitting with her hands touching the back of her neck and her elbows up above her head. Taking a deep breath she would close her eyes and let it out slowly. If there was one thing Danica needed to learn it was to settle down, unwind and take things a step at a time.
Her eyes opened slowly as she took in the sun light, the small purring that was just barely audible felt relaxing, and she had the sudden urge to nap, though of course she resisted it, this was not the time nor the place.
She would examine the black cat, for collar and made sure not to move to suddenly or to look as if she was going to touch the cat, she didn’t know how friendly it would be. This had been one of the closest interactions with a cat she had had thus far. Her family didn’t have any pets, as they ~just eat up money~ according to her grandfather. Though she had a friend with a cat once, not that she took rightful advantage of that though, friends tended to be far and few between for Danica, but she treasured the ones she had. “ more turkey?” She would ask the cat, as if it would respond to her, before pulling the top of her sandwich back off, and pulling another shred of turkey from her sandwich, and placing it beside her book, near the cats face, but not close enough to possibly startle it, but close enough he would just have to lean his neck out and pick it up, or at least that was her goal.

LONELY TOGETHER THE GIRL YIELDED-- ACTUALLY YIELDED-- to the tiny cat’s insistence. For example, when Kuro started to creep onto the textbook, the girl tossed her hands up, but didn’t try to relocate him. She simply allowed Kuro to crawl forward and hunker down, and declared that it was time for a break. Kuro closed his eyes, his tail flicking contentedly. He let his nose dip a little closer to the page, purring contentedly, entirely unaware of the fact that he was being inspected.
Nimue had, actually, coerced Kuro into wearing a collar—something about “if animal control got a hold of him, a collar prohibited him from being whisked away to the pound. It was “get out of pound free” card.
The collar in-question was a red, leather collar, with a simple gold tag. The tag read “Kuro” on one side, and hosted a phone number—Nimue’s phone number—on the other. If the girl happened to reach for the collar, or Kuro, he wouldn’t make indication of noticing until she potentially touched Kuro personally. Any touch would be answered with an inquiring, “Brrrep?” and inquiring grass-green eyes.
For now, though, he dozed on the warm textbook. That’s the ruse he had up, that is.
That woke Kuro up. He looked at the girl, and gave a much more insistenr, “MREH” at the mention of turkey. Turkey was always welcomed. She set the shred of turkey upon the table, and as anticipated, the cat craned his neck to reach it. Kuro this time bit the turkey and relocated it to the surface of the book, picking it apart more delicately than the first time.
The girl seemed pretty okay, really. Quiet, maybe. But good enough to share her food with a random cat off of the streets. Anyone willing to share food with Kuro was alright in his book. Perhaps he’d keep her company, until her patience grew thin, hm? Or, until she was out of turkey. Kuro found himself wondering what kind of conversational partner the girl might be, but he was hesitant to speak in such a crowded seating area.

Danica Inspected the collar, but because he was a Cat that belonged to someone, she opted not to touch him, not unless the cat demanded the pets or scratches, she didn’t know too much about cats, it wasn’t a topic of interest to her, but she did find them quite adorable. The soft purr was quite comforting. The thought crossed her mind about getting a cat, but she had to consider that she lived in the dorms, and though she didn’t remember any rule that said no cats, she was quite sure it likely was in there somewhere, and she didn’t know if she would have the time to give them the proper love and attention.
She took note of the name on the collar either way, it was nice to be able to give a name to the cat, she leaned back and offered out more turkey before taking a bite of her sandwich herself. With a mouthful she couldn’t Verbally protest against the cat putting the turkey onto the pages of her book but she sighed all the same as she exhaled through her nose in discontent. Once she finished of the mouthful and Kuro was done eating the turkey she would take her napkin and wipe the corner of her page off, taking care not to touch the cat, she just didn’t want turkey juice to ruin her pages and stick them together or anything. She would lean back in her seat looking up at the blue sky above, the small clouds slowly crossed the sky and she couldn’t help but feel like she was wasting time stalling so she didn’t have to do her training. It was an issue; you could only procrastinate so long before her own mind would catch on to her own shenanigans. She would lean forwards and take another bite of the sandwich before pulling another Shred of turkey off the side and placing it on the napkin onto of where Kuro had chosen to eat the last piece, at least it would be on the napkin opposed to her book this time. Once her mouthful was done she lean back and casualty look at the cat “ it must be nice being a cat, no responsibilities, no social pressures. You just have to be you to be loved and taken care of” After verbalizing her though she couldn’t help but to feel a little jealous of the cats assumed life style.

LONELY TOGETHER THE CAT TORE SMALLER PIECES off of the offering of turkey, happily munching away on each torn piece, before taking another ferocious bite. When the girl sighed, the cat rose himself off of the book, circling back to the other side of the table. Although Kuro had no way of knowing what the intention was behind the girl’s sigh, he wanted to be sure that she didn’t make a grab for his turkey.
When the cat finished chewing, he noticed the next turkey-offering, and went hastily to grab it before retreating to the opposite side of the table.
The cat tore-off a piece of the newly-offered turkey, chewing it loudly as he seemed to weigh his options. Her sandwich was starting to look a little thin, in the turkey department—that was to be expected, since she was sharing the sandwich with a cat. So… now was perhaps as good of a time as ever to make conversation, right?
“I could deal without the dogs,” the cat said primly, gulping down his first bite of turkey. Kuro fixed the girl with the stare, “Being a cat is all well-and-good until dogs get involved. Also—dry food. Who does that?”
These were very feline concerns, and Kuro still brought them up, eager to see how the girl would react to a talking cat partaking in her lunch.
He strained towards the piece of turkey and took another bite, keeping it pressed between his two front paws.

She happily shared her meal, the company was rather surprisingly pleasant, though it was mostly a projected self reflection that she talked to, the absence of other people made it seem more normal, and she could ask questions that didn’t need answers, and it would feel like a conversation but it really wasn’t.
she casually mentioned how nice the cats life must have been, but the answer back was something she didn’t expect, as her eyes widened a bit in surprise and she drew a breath in hard, causing saliva to pull back into her windpipes and sent her into a bit of a coughing fit. She quickly picked up a napkin from beside her plate, sending the cutlery onto the table with a slight clatter. Before continuing to cough into the napkin aggressively. After a few moments of that she managed to regulate her breathing and get the much-needed air she craved.
Now a bit red in the face and slightly out of breath she would look at the cat with her head slightly tilted. Before she quickly placed two fingers against the side of her neck. Clearly, she had been poisoned or maybe it was a drug in her system, what was her pulse. But her hasty heartbeat check came back as average to her. It meant that this might actually be happening. She would reach for her cup and retrieve it for a drink.
Once she finished the mouthful and got her breathing down she had to recall what the cat had said, perhaps this was a person with a quirk that could shift into animals. A black cat would make sense, easy to go through the town unnoticed and with being a black cat superstitions people would keep their distance too. Dogs. . . Something about dogs. . And dry food. “ oh? is that right?” She questioned to see if she could get it to talk again. Or if the late night study sessions and the early rise for training at the gym were taking a toll on her sanity.

lonely together WHEN THE GIRL SPUTTERED in surprise, the cat reflexively jumped back slightly, arching their back. Coughing was a sudden surge of sound and motion, coughing could mean an attack, so it was best to cautious. It was best to be ready to run away at the soonest convenience. As the girl checked her pulse, eyes locked on the cat, the cat remained frozen, back still arched, spring-green eyes roving this way and that.
She then… went back to eating. Pretending she hadn’t heard anything? Proceed as normal? Kuro eased out of his tensed stance, and cautiously resumed his prim, seated position once again.
Wow, a quick recovery!
“Yes,” Kuro said simply, his tail swishing, “Dogs slobber and bark and chase you. And dry food is just gross. Horrible stuff.”
Kuro had closed his eyes as he made these proclamations, speaking plainly. But he opened one eye ever-so-coyly as he remarked, “The turkey from your sandwich is very good, though.”
Give a cat a piece of turkey, and he’d surely ask for more.
Whether or not his “subtle” remark was effective, the cat would rise off of his haunches to inspect the girl’s book once again. Now that the ruse was up, he would satiate his curiosity further—
“So— what are you reading? Is this for fun? Or for school?”
