He leaned forward, slightly, and listened intently to the story she was about to tell. He noticed her hand run through her hair and the newfound stiffness in her posture. It was probably as difficult for her to talk about it as it was for him. It was a situation different than his, and he couldn't imagine the panic at being held hostage in such a tense situation. He shook his head instinctively at the thought of anti-quirk protest. Normally he'd reach out to console someone who was recounting a harrowing dilemma but it didn't seem to appropriate for a student to be trying to console a doctor who probably didn't need it.
"That sounds awful. Sorry it happened to you," he spoke in the brief pause before she would demonstrate her quirk. Ray counted himself lucky to have found someone that was so open in speaking with him though. A feeling of guilt took hold as Sophie brought her hands close to her body in discomfort. Ray reached out his hand to her shoulder but retracted before he got to her, "It's okay. I don't need to know anymore. But that's a pretty quick reflex you had back then. I'd assume most people would freeze up," he wove in a compliment to help ease the painful memory that she recounted.
Seeing her smile was a comfort to know that she hadn't dwelled on the pain of what she said as she began to show her quirk. He sat back as she formed the paper sized pink shield and sent it sailing across the room. His eyes followed the path of the shield until it vanished. "That's impressive...how does it..." he was about to ask her the ins and outs of her quirk when he caught himself and gave a lopsided smile. After all, they were here for the exact opposite reason. But he did like seeing her quirk in action and wondered what all it could do. "Seems versatile," he added, remembering the bubble she made around his arm in the beginning.
"I think anyone would be shaken," he replied with a small nod and relaxed back into his chair. When she mentioned it had made her stronger, Ray was still looking at her but half of his thoughts drifted back to what had happened to him. If she could look back on an experience like that...maybe his own wasn't as bad. It was a small step but hearing her words eased some of the burden he carried on his shoulders because of it. "Made you stronger huh?," he said faintly and more to reaffirm what she had said. Nothing in his tone was sarcastic or questioning of her experience, just ponderings of how he could look at his own in the same way.
"You took up Judo?" he asked and veered away from trying to unscramble his own traumatic memory for now and his laid-back demeanor returned. "Doctor, Judo practitioner, quirk user. That's getting to be a long list." Sophie proved to have more and more layers as the talk went on. "I took up kung-fu...I guess trauma will do that to a person." he joked about their motivations having both come from something similar.
"I'm glad it treated you well. I liked it," he said but there was less sadness and longing in his voice than even he thought there would be. It wasn't Toronto per se that he missed but some of the people he knew.
"Oh no I," he tried to backpedal on his statement but blushed as she batted her eyelashes with a grin that could still a man's breath. Ray looked away for a moment and ran his hand to the back of his head. "I just meant that...You probably came here for work..." He said and brought his attention back to her once his pulse began to settle again and the red hot warmth left his ears. "I mean you are young. But not my age of course. Not that I wouldn't try to charm you if you were. I definitely would..but," he replied looking into her eyes with both a mixture of honesty and nervousness, and it was clear that he would have been the one to fall under her charm. He let out a quick breathy chuckle and looked down at the desk and then away. He cleared his throat and his hand reached up to his shoulder to scratch it. "So, quirk study right?" He said trying to get the topic back onto that, not knowing exactly how to navigate the batting eye-lashed that peered at him.

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Hmmmm, well I’d guess it was mostly an autonomic response tied to the flight or fight system, given the tie between quirks and biology…” Not really recognising the reflex she had shown back then until Ray pointed out how uncharacteristic it had seemed, everything had happened so fast that Miss Sequoia couldn’t really recall exactly what had passed through her mind at the time, if anything, and could only fall back on her extensive bodily knowledge to offer anything in the way of an explanation for her behaviour. “Possibly a good subject for a research paper, now I think of it…?” That seeming to naturally stimulate the more intellectual parts of her brain as she did so, the brainy blonde could readily see how a few well performed case studies could provide a wealth of evidence that might help the world to better understand the actions of quirkers, and maybe also aid those with more volatile abilities avoid criminal convictions as a result of unintentional complications. However, that was probably a topic to devote herself to in moments that were more her own. “Judo and a few other things to learn to protect myself…” Nodding as she confirmed her allegiance to the art of the gentle superiority and also confessing that this was not the only manner in which she had become a martial mistress, by this point Sophie was blessed with a wealth of mixed combat experience that wasn’t to be sniffed at, even if it was largely recreational. “Hahahah, we do the best with what we’re given, besides… Good exercise can help to focus the mind and personal fitness naturally improves blood flow to the brain?” Amused even more with how her young companion seemed with her resume, even if she was glad to have her talents be appreciated, some urge to be humble propelled the blue eyed beauty to downplay her achievements just a little in order to seem modest. “Heheheheh, oh really~?” Licking her lips a little bit when she saw how quickly her little effort of flirtation seemed to leave her comrade flustered and smiling because of it, even though she was certainly flattered to have her looks and manner complimented in the way that Ray had already Miss Sequoia couldn’t help but feel a little mischievous, and aim her next little shot to tease the teen even more than she had. “What about now then~? Am I still worth your charms~?” Certainly by no means wishing to go beyond her boundaries with a lad this young but it at least seeming to provide a moment of entertainment to the enchantress to pick at the specificity that he had shown, the siren with the irises like sapphires smirked and batted her lashes a bit more as she rested her jaw on her hand and crossed one leg over the other in an effort of vanity, and wondered how her subject might dig himself out of this particular ‘hole’ he had created for himself. “Heheheheh, indeed~ It’s an interesting field, isn’t it~?” Ultimately just teasing him however and happy to take his little hint to move onto a separate subject, though Sophie was left chuckling by the exchange she followed his change of subject with a smile, whilst leaving her gaze lingering on his face in a manner that still held a hint of implication about it, before beginning to laugh of course.

Ray just arched his brow at her scientific analysis of the situation she had been in. It wasn't that he couldn't decipher the deep meaning of what she was saying, but more so that it was such a typical thing for a scientist to say. For him, it was a simple matter of good reflexes. "I see."
"Sounds like it would be an interesting read. I imagine its something that a lot of quirk users have some experience with," he commented about the possible abundance of research subjects she could find in that area of study. He felt a little proud of himself that even if it was a small contribution to a fleeting idea he was able to help her come up with something new to look into. It was like he could see the gears turning in the background of her mind. A hallmark stamp of a scientist and in a lot of ways it was kind of how he thought about his quirk sometimes. Trying to come up with some new and tricky ways to use it.
The fact that she mentioned a few other forms, kept the woman's air of mystery as to what those could be. Ray had stayed pretty close to one style for a long time. Mostly for lack of access to others and his father's single-minded insistence. But if she didn't bring it up, he wasn't going to pry too deeply for fear that he would tumble down too deep in the rabbit hole of martial arts.
"Yeah, That's what my father would always say about the practice of martial arts too. A healthy body is a healthy mind," he repeated and thought about all the long days he spent with his father teaching him the art."Do you still practice now or has being a doctor taken up most of your time?" She evaded the compliment to her resume and waved off the achievements as something more casual.
Her slight giggle sent another shiver up his back, it was a mingling of excitement and worry as to what sort of corner he had just backed himself into. She licked her lips and his heart thudded against his chest, he knew she just wasn't going to let him off the hook now. "Now,' he remarked as he cleared his throat once more, and repeated to make sure he heard her correctly. Hearing her say if she was worth his charms almost prickled the hair on his arms. She had already given him her phone number and now this. He looked away again and shook his head with a grin, dismissing whatever conveniences he was piecing together in his mind. She was just being coy he reminded himself, but it didn't make it any easier.
His attention turned back to her sapphire eyes, like blue flames beckoning him closer. "I mean..," he began and held the back of his neck with his right hand. "Yeah.. Definitely worth it,"he just decided to lean into it. He then saw a small window of his own as she sat there with her chin resting in her hand seductively. He pushed down the nervousness he felt the best he could and hid it behind a lopsided grin. "Who knows, you may have to watch out when I graduate," he said with some of the confidence he had when they had first met, even if it was to cover up what he really was feeling.
They had almost slid into a different conversation when she let out a chuckle and Ray couldn't help but be caught up in the teasing expression on her face that lingered from her goading him into expressing his interest in her.

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Yes, I fear the sad fact is that many still seem to face discrimination for what they are, regardless of any other influence?” Frowning a little as she considered the effect that quirks had on society and the disappointing degree of negativity that seemed to be associated with them, Miss Sequoia nodded as her subject seemed to approve of her vague proposal for her paper, and lifted the tip of her finger to softly roll back and forth over her chin as she did so. “So something to boost awareness and hopefully acceptance can’t hurt, can it~?” The vision of the vixen becoming a little bit hazy as her mind flooded with optimistic interpretation of the weight that her work might carry if she used it right, the brainy blonde was already seeming to mould her report in her mind as she sat there for a moment or two then smiled, and returned to the moment with a sense of hope and ambition as a result. “Heheheh, I still do it where I can?” Grinning as the boy seemed to support her mentality for the martial arts as well or at least demonstrated some form of descended desire to do so, though Sophie was not practicing or pushing herself as hard as she had been in the aftermath of the incident she had mentioned that did not mean she was any kind of slouch, and still kept up the routine as best she could despite the business that her days seemed to involve now. “Sometimes I even push the tables in here out of the way so I can go through a few kata’s while I ruminate on my research~?” Appreciating the value of a little exercise in any manner and the positive effect it could have on her mind, the blue eyed biologist was also inventive enough to work around the problems she might find in her pursuit of her hobby and adaptable in her approach, and as a result had probably lagged in her ability far less than one might expect of someone who spent most of her work day near her desk. “Hehehehe, yes, I might have to be careful when that happens, huh~?” Licking her lips when the lad seemed to take the bait that she laid out and respond with an air of confidence rather than embarrassment, while she responded to his joking reply in a similarly playful fashion perhaps Ray might have underestimated the small degree of sincerity she carried in her words when she contemplated the notion of him coming back older, wiser and with a bit more desire in mind. “Who knows just what kind of effect a handsome hero might have on a helpless soul like me, hm~?” Remarkably open minded in her approach and perhaps a little too happy to indulge the illicit interest of others when one considered her opinion, even though she didn’t really voice it Miss Sequoia could tell that this student was already something of a looker and that quality was likely to only be enhanced through age as well, so she found herself unable to entirely deny the idea that on some day in the future they might become far more familiar with each other. Unlikely for sure, but as any good scientist knew; nothing was impossible.

He smiled back at the optimism she had about her work. "Sounds like it'll make a big difference in people's lives." The way she knew exactly what she wanted to do and stayed true to her path was worthy of admiration. Something that he could probably learn from and hopefully by the end of the school year have more defined future for himself.
Now that he knew about her martial prowess it made more sense. She sat and walked straight-backed and with a grace bestowed by years of kata and practice. "Judo must be hard to do solo," he phrased it more like a question than a statement. The art of throwing people was a tricky discipline let alone without a partner. Ray scanned the room and thought about the doctor with her hair up and the tables all pushed to the side going through her forms, "I would probably still crash into the used needle bin," he smirked with a bit of humor. Kung-fu was a style the had far too many jumps for him to be safe in a place like this. "I usually just sneak out of the dorm and head into the..." his eye scrunched a bit with his mouth still open as he realized too late that he shouldn't be saying something like that so carelessly. " I mean I usually use the facilities at the appropriate times." He tried to clean it up knowing that the damage was already done.
"Concentrating on research while practicing. Seems your mind is always at work," he stated sincerely but also to quickly evade any potential backlash from a student sneaking out of the dorm. His father had always told him though that forms were like moving meditation and could ease the mind.
The giggle she let out before her sentence was even cuter now that she had lured his interest in her out in the open. The thought of it all coupled with the compliment she gave sent a warm rush through his back and into his neck. The room suddenly become hotter and despite his open collar, he felt the urge to tug at it to be able to breathe easier. A feeling that he suppressed at least for now.
"hardly helpless," he joked back as he was the one that felt helpless in the face of her playful flirtations. "I guess I'll have to really give it my all towards graduation now," he replied partially joking but with a hint of sincerity. He was glad for once that they hadn't started any part of a physical exam as she'd see just how sweaty his palms had become. Luckily he could play it off as a part of his quirk.
"So uh, do you have any water around here," he asked as his mouth ran as dry as the dessert from the conflict of playing it calm while being utterly off-balance by her innocent seductions. He couldn't help but think about coming back to her after graduation for a date, but the odds of that happening were incalculable. But he was stubborn enough to take the chance even with the deck stacked against him. Nonetheless, it would be a motivating thought to hold onto. One thing he did know for certain is he'd find as much time as he could to come down for quirk research study.

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Hahahaha, yes that one is still something that usually requires outside input~?” Giggling and smiling as Ray pointed out the obvious flaw in her practice when considering her premier form of self-defence, Miss Sequoua smiled as she imagined the idea of throwing a few of her colleagues onto nice, firm surface, though confessed truthfully that this was something she didn’t really do. At least not without their prior permission, of course! “The lab is more the sort of place for Tai Chi, or Tae Kwon Do on daring days?” Smiling and maintaining her blue gaze on the boy as he very nearly made a little slip with what he said but offering the kind of look that promised that while she guessed his secret it was safe with her, the brainy blonde bragged humbly of the range of disciplines she had practiced in her lab as a hint to the scope of her abilities, and while she had no reason to seek the approval of her subject or impress him she did consider that a happy little bonus. After all, people did too readily see those in intellectual disciplines to be all mind and no might, didn’t they? “Heeheehee, well in that case I’m glad I can offer you a little additional motivation~” Licking her lips as she saw the way in which the young man tried to remain staunch in his resistance of her charms but obviously was starting to feel a little out of his depth, with her vanity satisfied by the impression she had seemed to make Sophie giggled as she decided to move on from the issue before making him feel too uncomfortable, even if it was rather fun. “I can’t wait to see what sort of handsome hero you’ll become, then~” That latter fact possibly prompting her last little bout of playfulness as she flicked her hair, as if to make her point non-verbally as well she surveyed the student with the cool confidence of an experienced woman in a manner that definitely was intended to catch his eye, before she grinned at him innocently and moved back onto the topic that had brought the two of them together. “Ah, yes… I can draw some from the tap I suppose?” It seeming like this was a good time to get back into the practical demonstrations and for that purpose the young woman standing up and sliding her chair back to the desk, when Ray asked for some water there was an obvious source in her little mix of office and laboratory, and Miss Sequoia headed over to it with a little bit of a wiggle in her walk that reflected her innocent enjoyment of the little bout of flirtation they had shared between them. “And if that’s not enough, I know my gym has a pool we could commandeer for future endeavours~?” Cocking her head as she picked up a plastic bowl and began to fill it with a cool mix of two parts hydrogen to one part of oxygen, even after her saucy comments the girl did not entirely intend to tease him further with the idea of him seeing her in a swimsuit as she suggested a method of stepping up their game next time, showing that while she was a naughty little vixen sometimes her heart belonged to science and the discoveries she could make in the pursuit of it…

"You know if you want...I could be your judo partner," he said enticed by the idea of spending more time with her. He overlooked the lab and thought about the wide-ranging kicks of taekwondo taking up the whole space. She let out a bit more on the various styles that she knew but never came off conceited about it. Her blue-eyed gaze enthralled him and let him know that his secret was safe with her. The thought of sharing a secret even if it had nothing to do with her felt scandalous and exciting. He could have never thought he would be lucky enough to share a moment with a seductive doctor.
He swallowed again she licked her lips with flirty words. She knew exactly what to say to tickle the imagination and could see clearly that Ray had fallen headfirst into her charms. "Hopefully a good enough one for a pretty doctor," he said in reply to being called handsome again. It just slipped out. A moment of instinct from his shameless nature that overtook his shaken nerves from the attention of an experienced woman. "Sorry, that's inappropriate," he added hoping that she would dismiss it and assure him it wasn't.
"Thanks"he replied and trailed her swaying hips over to the faucet. She seemed to know exactly what she was doing to dance around sensuality. "Oh, a pool. That would be..uh..good for future endeavors."His mind caught between how dry his throat was and now thinking about her at a pool with eyes on him. He leaned forward to see she was filling a bowl with water. Crap. She was getting it for his stupid quirk, he cursed himself and his throat was nearing itself to a desert. He crossed the room and stood next to her. His hands brushed hers briefly as he took the bowl and sipped the water down. "Thanks I was parched." He filled it back up replacing the water that he had drank not knowing if she had cups around or not. He set the bowl on the counter with water sloshing at the lips of it.
"So is there a physical or bloodwork. Or do you want me to start? I'm in your hands." He didn't want to jump the gun like he had when they had first begun and once again it was up to Sophie to lead him through the motions.

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Heeheehee, well I might take you up on that offer, if you don’t mind having a girl throwing you around~?” Smiling and feeling a little bit touched by the consideration that she was shown by Ray in regard to her martial arts practice, now that she had given the topic a little consideration Miss Sequoia could see that she had gotten a little out of the habit in regard to her judo abilities and probably could use the help of a partner in that regard, and considered the offer of the young man seriously because of that. “It might be nice to get a bit more practice in, and maybe you might find it useful too, for your studies?” Pausing for a second as that blue gaze grew a little misty with her mind turning to a speculative topic, after a moment the dishy doctor returned to her surroundings and smiled again as she realized such a habit could be a boon for both of them, and pointed that out with eagerness and a sense of approval due to the her fondness for efficiency. It was nice when one had the opportunity to fell two birds with one stone, and all that. Pretty huh? Maybe I’ve been a bit naughty? Feels like I might have whipped up a little crush there~? The awkwardness that her subject showed to her only making Sophie smile all the more, the academic angel couldn’t help but feel amused and rather flattered as well when the lad responded on instinct, and then had to fumble with his words in a flustered fashion afterward. “Heheheheh, well don’t worry. As a woman who spends her day with a bunch of married old men, I suppose could use being told I’m pretty a little more often than I do~?” Perhaps a twinge of guilt striking through her because she knew all too well that it was probably more a case of her taking things too far than anything that created this moment, the brainy blonde didn’t like the idea of her young charge feeling uncomfortable about his interest and apparent attraction toward her, and while she didn’t want to encourage some kind of forbidden love type idea at the same time she felt it important to mention the fact she was comfortable with such comments. Happy to hear them, even, so long as that was as far as things went. “Hahaha, you should have said, I would have got you a drink~?” Gasping and then chuckling when Ray seemed to wolf down the bowl of water that she had brought to him because of his thirst, after shaking her head the scientific siren moved toward the sink area again and pulled out a couple of cups and an array of beverages she kept in there in order to sate her own desire, and was happy to share them with the student since she now knew of his need. “So, what’s your poison, eh?” Perhaps even feeling a little guilty now that she realized that she had been talking to him for so long without offering this simple accommodation, Miss Sequoia picked through sachets filled with all kinds of tea and coffee as well as a few cans of soft drinks and bottled water as well, the latter of which she produced from a little fridge which also kept a few ‘delicate’ drug samples within chilled within it. “Oh not for the moment really, that would probably only be if I needed to conduct a more thorough examination, or if your power came with associated mutations, which you haven’t mentioned so don’t worry…” Blinking a little as the boy next asked if she needed his blood sample or something more and then smiling, Sophie shook her head as she answered him whilst getting whatever drink he demanded ready for him, and prepping one for herself as well while she was at it for good measure. After all, if he was shy or something, he’d probably feel more comfortable drinking with her than alone. “I won’t be asking you to strip down to your smalls any time soon?” Not quite losing her sense of playfulness yet though and that fact showing as she slipped back into her seat and took a sip from something to moisten her own throat as well, the young intellectual smirked as she offered yet another wry line toward the teen in her office and passed him his drink over, all the while feeling a bit more at ease with their rapport now that she could comfortably offer a little wickedness with her wise words…

"Not at all," he replied with a smile at the thought of being tossed around and perhaps picking up on a few combat moves. He was already excited to practice martial arts and spend a little more time with the doctor. His intentions may not have been purely set on the idea of martial arts. "I'm sure it will be. And if I happen to get injured, what better place to be." Not that he would need much medical attention because of his quirk but being in a doctor's office did serve to add a bit more safety to the thought of taking a rough fall.
"Well, then It's my pleasure. Just don't knock me out first with a Judo throw," he answered at being the one to give her a moment of reprieve from all the older gentlemen that frequented her office. He still couldn't wrap his mind around the fact that she didn't hear it very often at least out in the city. But then maybe she spent just as much time confined in the school as he did. The student eased back in the chair, noticeably more comfortable about the playful flirtations now that he had garnered something close to approval from the doctor that it wouldn't be awkward.
"Not a problem," he said and whipped the water from his mouth with a refreshing sigh.
"Whisky," he replied with a smirk and held a pause for a moment. It lasted a second before he waved his hand with a laugh at whatever reaction or concern the woman would have. "I'm just messin. Green tea is perfectly fine for me." In fact despite his semi-devious nature alcohol had never ensnared the young man and soda only served to dehydrate him more than he would like. He kept the bowl of water with him for when it was time to demonstrate his quirk.
"Nope certainly no strange mutations here," he answered not wanting to get anywhere close to a slew of blood samples being drawn from him. He sat back down across from her and drank the tea.
"Soon?" he questioned back with a bit of playfulness in his own tone. While he wouldn't mind stripping down, and they had already talked about going to the pool where they would both be more open, he couldn't help but feel when the moment came he'd be a little hesitant in the presence of the vixen.
"Alright then," he said and rolled his sleeves up a bit higher. Setting down the drank he turned his attention to the bowl. With a simple hand motion, he lifted all the water out of it and formed it into a small bubble that would feel as thick as a thin layer of concrete. "There ya go. I can strengthen the surface tension of the water."He held it there as it was easier to focus on something that small compared to what he had done during the training sessions.

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Heeheehee, don’t worry, I’ll hold back~” Giggling and winking playfully as her would-be partner in pugilism asked for a little gentleness on his account, Miss Sequoia couldn’t help but fall back into her flirtatious habits a little as a response, and found no shortage of amusement in the irony of the role reversal that had seemed to be presented to the pair. “I wouldn’t wanna hurt a pretty thing like you, now would I~?” Smirking and resisting a temptation to fall wholly into the role of a smooth charmer by running the tip of her finger down Ray’s face to tease him, all the same she let her own blue gaze linger on him with a played up sense of suggestiveness clear in her eyes, before giggling and shaking her head as she focused on making him the drink he demanded. “Oh, quite sophisticated for a young man from the west, or I suppose given where we are now, from the east?” Surprised when the lad seemed to ask for a drink that felt a little mature for the tastes of a teenager, though she was happy to provide him with the green tea he asked for and set about giving him a nice deep cupful of the mellow substance Sophie couldn’t help but comment on her astonishment at such a fact, though quickly found other parts of her mind and mentality seeming to strike up as a result of their subject of refreshment. “Actually, given your ability has to do with water, does your hydration level have an impact upon it?” Not having really thought of how much hydration might have played a part in the power that the student presented her with, even though the young brunette had offered little hint that thirst might play a part in the ability now that it had occurred to the brainy blonde she couldn’t help but ask about it, as it seemed another potential note through which she might understand the ability better. “Well, there are no absolutes in science, so never say never, I suppose~?” Smirking once more when Ray seemed to put a little emphasis on the little joke she had made about stripping him off and deciding to roll with such an idea, while she still felt a little bad for teasing someone who was far too young an innocent to ever be an option for her in terms of sensuality sometimes it was hard to hold back the urge she felt to bolster her ego through bawdy banter, and she flashed a cool smirk at the lad as she laid out another playful but nonchalant line to tease him. “Ohhhhh, interesting… It’s hard, but not wholly like ice, is it? Cool rather than cold, and a little clammy to the touch?” All too quickly distracted when he presented his power however, once Miss Sequoia had set the drink down for the boy she hummed and examined the shape he had created from the water and probed it gently, and immediately herself intrigued by what was presented before her for study as a result…

An unstoppable and ever so slight, lopsided grin inched its way across his face at her playful flirtations yet again. His throat ran a little dry again as her blue eyes lingered on him with that subtle giggle that made his mind fall prey to amorous thoughts. Especially at her mention of gentleness. "I'm sure I'll be safe in your hands." His words ringing with a bit more comfort more and more as things seemed to settle into a norm of roundabout teasing. Having her call him both handsome and pretty aired on making his head spin. The gaze that held his full attention broke away with another giggle to return to making the drinks. But Ray couldn't help letting his own eyes linger on the serene figure before him.
"Oh. Thanks. My father was from the east and had a love for tea. Something about meditation and calming the mind. I always assumed it was what you'd expect to hear from an old man that knew kung-fu." He said with a shrug and thanked her for the tea as he took a sip. The drink reminded him of home. Of the comforts that laid within familiarity.
Setting down the cup of tea he placed on of his hands in the remaining bowl of water. The water clung to it and sipped into the pores of his skin. "Almost forgot about that one. Yes. The more I use my quirk the more dehydrated I become. Even being out on hot summer days can make me drowsy. A problem I have with accidentally oversleeping. But I usually carry water on me just in case." As he spoke he began to think about the times he trained to exhaustion and was nothing more than a playground fountain in the end.
"But the amount of water in my body doesn't directly connect to it. I can generate much more water than I can actually store," he chuckled to himself thinking about the catastrophe that would be if it were actually the case. "But overuse does make me rather thirsty and if I use my quirk too much I will dehydrate myself."
"I think I'm beginning to like science even more," he replied. Those small smirks were adding up and he could feel he was already held by them. The intrigue and thought of that moment were enough to pull the young quirk user back to this office as often as he could find time for. Even though her charms were clearly out of playfulness rather than seriousness it was comforting nonetheless. A small delightful reprieve from the madness of day to day schooling in the foreign land and a place to be able to speak his native tongue.
The scientist had emerged from Sofie as she examined the small shield of water. Ray peeked his head around the watery construct hovering in the air. "Clammy?" he replied with a cocked brow and a grin."Here we go, stay still." As soon as his words finished he pushed out his hand and dome of water sprang out, surrounding them in almost a complete bubble of water two-meters across. it covered around the table but left the floor untouched and the cold linoleum tiles still beneath their feet. More like an aquatic bubble bunker with the same durability as the small shield.
"This is pretty much what I focus on."

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Ohhhh, I see, I see~” Surprised for a moment when Ray admitted the fact that his grandfather came from lands like this one, after a moment of consideration at that fact Miss Sequoia hummed and nodded, and then realized that his confession suddenly connected a dot that she had been curious about since being introduced to him. “With your surname, that makes a lot of sense~?” Seeming to note the intriguing combination of names when the appointment with the lad had been made and the more inquisitive part of her squirreling such curiosity away for the opportune moment to explore it, though she had been far too engrossed in her research and the other intriguing aspects of their conversation to challenge the western origin of the boy given his surname the scientific siren was happy to learn the truth of the matter without needing to dig too much, and felt a sense of satisfaction in having her wonder quenched in this area. “Heeheehee, I’ll have to make sure I get you hydrated properly then, hm~? I’d hate for you to be suffering too much of a thirst around me, after all~?” Tilting her head as her subject seemed to confirm the suspicion that she carried and happily adding that fact to her notes as well, given how their chat had gone thus far Sophie couldn’t help but as the topic of need for liquid nourishment was broached, and as a result left a playful double entendre for the boy to pick up on. However, her cheeky distraction did not last long. “Oh so there’s no causality? Like a proportional reserve compared to your current degree of hydration?” Quickly reverting back to that more reasoned than raunchy part of her mind as the blue eyed boy got a bit more specific about the shortcoming, while it wasn’t news to her that the wonder of Quirk’s seemed to almost magically provide more than what was given she did wish to confirm there was no correlation between the level of fluid refreshment and availability given the impression that had been offered to her, since it was these finer points that often seemed to create the definition between overlapping abilities. “Oh, yes, I’m glad I can help you appreciate science a little bit better then~” Not so focused on their research that she couldn’t read a little more into the remarks of young Ray however, as the boy seemed to profess a fresh interest in the learned disciplines of observation and experimentation Miss Sequoia couldn’t help but raise her brow and cock her head as she responded, and opted to add a little sardonic implication as she reacted to his change of heart. “It has plenty of allure for me too, as I’m sure you’d guess~?” Winking playfully as she seemed to hint that she sensed a little more to the situation than would immediately apparent with her tone and word choices, the brainy blonde let her bright eyes linger on that of the boy before shaking her head and moving back to the meat of their matter, still feeling a little unsure of whether she should encourage him but hoping the way he took her wickedness in his stride was a sign of the maturity of spirit needed to not make more of what she toyed with than it was. She was just playing, after all. “Ohhhhhh, my goodness, you’ve certainly got plenty of fine control down haven’t you?” Practically cooing a moment later when the boy helped his bubble grow to be big enough to encapsulate them both, the fact that he could stretch it with so little influence or disturbance upon their person was impressive, and Sophie couldn’t help but feel a small sense of kinship in the manner with which he used his powers and how she tended to employ her own. “It’s amazing what you can do with a little creativity, and just a nudge in a more desirable direction, isn’t it~?” That inclination toward protection something that he seemed to unknowingly share with her, even though the ravishing researcher felt an impetus to demonstrate this commonality between them since she did not wish to upstage her subject she tempered the temptation, and instead she simply chose to praise his abilities and the unconventional manner in which the lad used them…

He lingered in the brief silence that accompanied his answer on origin. Yet again proving that the woman was far more contemplating and observant about the little details than he thought would simply go unnoticed. "Sometimes I forget that my name is an odd combination. Were both your parents Canadian born?" he slipped in his own question almost like it was something you'd ask on a first date. More than that, he had grown a genuine curiosity into who the seductive doctor was.
It may not have been intended but her words alone made his throat run a little dry yet again, just hearing the subtle and precise choice of words. Both remaining innocent and alluring at the same time. He took another drink of water. "I guess that just means I'll have to come around more often to stay properly hydrated under a doctor's care." He leaned over to see her scribble that note down all the while his mind wandered with the thought a future trips to the office, and staying hydrated poolside.
"Hmm," he remarked about her pointed question. "I'm not sure if there is an exact amount stored to used ratio. I know I can conjure way more water than is in my body. But I've never tried to measure how much is for what. It's also tricky because my pores absorb water for me to use as well. So like, if I were in a swimming pool I can really pump it out."
"I'm sure if I stick around long enough I'll appreciate science even more."Although it was hard to discern to what degree it was actually about science or about the scientist. He just smiled as she spoke about the allure of science and study. His hand rubbing the back of his head and ruffling his hair with it. Her wink was as alluring for him as science was to her.
"Oh, thanks. It's just something I'm used to doing," he tried to downplay the ability. "It helps with defensive moments and secret rendezvous," he joked. He remembered she could also cast something close to the shielding abilities he used. "Your quirk works something similar right? With a barrier?"
"The right motivation goes a long way," he said and cleared his throat, realizing that they had been surrounded in the privacy of his bubble this whole time still. He pulled his hand back and created an opening like a doorway. "I can propel things with it and make it into thin blades, but that's a lot more difficult. It's mostly shapes and barriers. bubbles and domes are the easiest." Normally this would be the moment he would conjure sprout of water from the water walls and give the pretty girl he was with a quick nudge toward him. He'd catch them and say whatever sweet thing he could think of. But he wasn't as suave around such a mature beauty, nor did he want to press the matter of their innocent flirtations. A more playful thing than serious and opted to open the bubble instead.

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Yes, I think so? Well, I do have some mixed heritage myself from scandanavia and such but…” A small crease of curiosity forming in the brow of the brainy blonde as she was asked about her own heritage, to the best of her knowledge she expected that the assertion that the lad offered was correct, but she wasn’t wholly certain of that fact really. “I’m pretty sure they were both born in the great white north~?” Only taking what would be little more than a glance at the origin of her name and the people that had born it, while her remembered her grandmother having a strange accent and tales of northern Europe beyond that Sophie remained ignorant of the full degree of her regional lineage, but then had always been more interested in what her genes were rather than where they came from. Obsession over birthplace seemed so old fashioned in a community that was growing increasingly international with every generation. “Heeheehee, don’t worry, I’m sure I can keep you refreshed~!” Showing herself not to be wholly infallible when she missed the little line about Ray’s thirst or at the very least the hint of innuendo about in and instead responded with a bright and breezy sense of sincerity, though Miss Sequoia could be skilled in the art of sensuous discourse that portion of her brain tended to come second to her own desire for knowledge, and as such she neglected it until she had finished digesting further scientific deliciousness. “Perhaps something to measure in future sessions, then?” Nodding as she noted the fact that he seemed to be unaware of the correlation she had questioned but that not really surprising or disappointing her at all, instead it was another juicy factor that they could explore in their future together, which naturally but quietly excited the ravishing researcher all the more. “Oh, well I’m certainly glad to be helping to pique your interest~” The bashfulness that the lad showed her next seeming to assure the academic angel that her suspicion about his intentions in regard to academics were not as shady as a more sinful part of her mind might have guessed, Sophie smiled at the affirmation and took it at face value for the most part, but all too quickly found herself intrigued by a far juicier piece of information that he had mentioned. “Heeheehee, secret rendezvous? I can’t help but wonder with whom~?” Giving a short giggle and tilting her head at the joke he had made, while she had reckoned from the hint of assurance that the young man might have been a more talented heart stealer than he was letting on this talk of clandestine meetings only seemed to confirm those assumptions all the more, and as such she couldn’t help but ask for a little more detail on the issue. However, it was mostly a joke, since she knew all too well not to dig too deeply into a teens business, especially in that area. “Ah, yes, hm, though most of my expertise with it come from testing my powers rather than training it?” Nodding again as Ray noted the similarities in what their quirks could do when used in the right manner but quickly pointing out the fact that the youngster’s range of abilities likely far surpassed her own, while it was true that Miss Sequoua could likely boast a far more impressive mastery of her skills than the average civilian, when confronted by someone who was studying to use their powers professionally she guessed she would pale by comparison. “Heheheheh, it sounds like you’ve practiced with it a lot to hone such unusual creations? I’ve never tried to make blades with mine, really…” Already able to note a number of ways in which she already felt like her skills had been surpassed or at the very least certain aspects of her imagination had been, while she didn’t make a big deal of it the gentler side of the young genius would mean she would struggle to ever use her powers in a manner that felt threatening like using blades, and perhaps showed a sense of naiveté to contrast her innate wit because of that…

"Scandanavian, huh," he said. It seemed the gears were turning in her head yet again. A woman in perpetual thought about some mystery. "I'm sure we all have a splash of something else in there somewhere, right?" he shrugged it off and left it as just two Canadians meeting in japan. deep knowledge about genes and lineage wasn't a rooted part in his education. A brief semester of science for the basics.
He swallowed again hearing her talk about...keeping him refreshed. If she wanted he would have fallen into her charms in a moment's whim. His stout-hearted stand that it was only faint flirtations of the jovial kind wanned under the presumption it could be something more true. If only he were a little older. His eyes trailed along her slender collar bone between the lapels of her lab coat and quickly remade eye contact. "I have no doubt," he replied.
The doctor assured that they'd meet again to dive deeper into the mechanics of his quirk. Aside from the banter between them, he was rather curious as to what correlation there could be. If there was one, it'd prove helpful to know in the middle of combat. "Next time it is then. It's a plan," he said casually intended to use the word date instead, but switched to something more wholesome in the end.
"Oh uh?" he replied with a raised brow, not expecting such an acute question from Sophie about the rendezvous. The water dripped around them and the barrier rippled as his concentration staggered. He placed a hand on the water wall, leaning his weight onto it. The shifting form of the bubble barrier stabilized once more. "Uhm, no one in particular not here anyway. Not.. yet," eh let the last part linger out and held his attention on her. A not so subtle hint of his bubbling feelings outlined in playfulness and humor.
"Oh...I don't know. I never thought of there being too much difference between testing an ability and training it. But then I've never done anything I'd consider testing on it." They seemed the same to him. Both just appeared to be repetitive use and understanding of the quirk and it's methods. But the scientist before him no doubt had an intricate understanding of the way her own quirk worked. She was reserved in the use of her quirk, much more than some of the others he encountered since coming to the country. More methodical than flashy.
"I've spent a lot of time with it, but nothing that impressive. I suppose making blades isn't high up on a list of things to use a quirk for as a doctor to heal people. I don't like to either, but." He stepped forward and pulled his hand across the watery side of the bubble dome, still around them. Reaching forward he would cup Miss Sophie's hands in his, leaving empty space between her palms with his hands on the outside. Water rushed over his hands and then hers. In the air between her palms, Ray formed a thin blade of water, shaped more like a scalpel.
"I'm sure you can do some pretty impressive things with your quirk though. And you never know when you'll need one of those right? I may be able to make a bunch of shapes, but I still don't know anything really about how it all works. I'm just swinging a tool. But you understand it." He forgot for a moment about professional distance and was caught up in the exploration of quirks and the beauty that stood before him in the shimmer of water he created. If she had pulled her hands away from his, he would apologize and simply make the scalpel of water between his own hands.
