The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Sophie, your three o’clock has arrived.” A slightly tinny sounding voice piping up over the intercom to thankfully leave a young scientist not wholly reliant upon the reminder’s she might set upon her phone, the aforementioned woman who possessed a doctorate looked up from what she was doing and smiled to herself, before resuming her task for a few more seconds yet. “Thanks, I’ll be there just in a moment~!” Speaking up as she carefully applied the contents of one test tube to another before placing them in a rack with several other specimens to mature, the soul who was named after the greek word for Wisdom eyed her latest set of little fun experiments for a second or two before standing up and heading toward the door that separated her mix of laboratory and office from the rest of the world, and caught her image as a reflection as she did so. My first sample from the school, how exciting~ The polished glass of one of her store cupboards highlighting her svelte frame tucked away within the confines on a short white coat and for one reason or another seeming to inspire feelings of satisfaction from Sophie as it did so, the educated enchantress paused in place to run her fingers down her collar to settle it before pulling them back through her hair and smiled at what she saw looking back at her, before setting off again with a feeling of excitement throbbing through her form fresh from her heart. Today was a special day, after all. How long has it been since I put those requests out, and finally… It the kind of day that she felt like she had been waiting upon forever, even though what she was to do with it was not terribly far removed from how Miss Sequoia spent about half her week this event seemed to have a certain sentimentality to it, and the reason for that was rather simple. No longer inviting some soul she had found and fluttered her eyelashes toward in the street but rather a gem falling into her lap, or at least the closest thing to something pretty and dazzling that her overly scientific mind could recognise, after weeks of waiting to spend that little portion of her time and research grant that she had tucked away for this project she was finally getting the chance to indulge her desires and that was something she was not going to leave to lie lightly. I’ve got one in my hands… No the chance to study one of the best and brightest of the future something that Sophie had been looking forward to for quite some time, while she had inspected those who shunned their powers and even the occasional soul who had managed to polish them to perfection this opportunity seemed new to her, and she was going to enjoy it. How delightful~ A nice slice of talent waiting for her that was in the process of honing the wonderful gift that had been handed to them from whatever power governed scientific advancement, it was like she was looking at the first chapter in a story and could gleefully speculate on how it might end, which was rare to her really. This was likely to be one person who would keep her attention for some time, if both of them were lucky.

Ray held the request in his hand about the quirk research that was seeking students. He didn't expect such a quick turnaround from when he had put in the request to be taken on., but they had already set a meeting and he was headed there now. His classes had ended for the day and he snuck away from the other students, not that it took much, he was still pretending to be more of a lone wolf.
The doors were just like any other and the waiting room too. He stepped inside and informed the woman at the desk of his arrival and she made an announcement to the back. He looked around the room and paced for only a few moments when the woman said he was clear to go on back. He stuck the request back in his dark pants pocket and walked through the door. He took a silent but deep breath, still unsure as to what exactly he was walking into but hopefully, it would benefit them both.
He slid off his dark-colored jacket and folded it over his arm, now only wearing the black dress shirt with the top button undone. As he stepped into the office room and walked over to the chair but decided to stay standing. He looked around the room taking in all there was until another door opened and a woman emerged. He took a small almost imperceptible gulp. he could see why people would come here regardless of whatever risk there was.
But a shiver ran through him, as he couldn't help but fell sized up but the woman in the short white coat. It was almost like being stared at with hunger, one born from science that threatened to consume him. He steeled his resolve and reminded himself why he was here.
"You must be miss Sequoia. I'm Ray," he said taking a small step towards her. "I found your request and wanna know more about my quirk.
He looked back over his shoulder and made a fist to point with his thumb at the chair, Sooo, how do we start this? Out here... he arched his head to the side and peaked over the scientist's shoulder at the room she just walkd out of, "Or in there?" Despite his thirst for knowledge about his own quirk and his drive to be here. Now seeing her in person there was only one worry that ran through his mind. Nothing that would stop him from being here but what her reaction would be once she found out his quirk at self-regenerative properties. he could tell by the look in her eye that she meant business.

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ I was expecting a boy… Opening the door to find her guest waiting for her, for a moment Sophie found herself a little bit astounded by the guest that she had found herself in such an excitement to meet simple because of the unexpected aspect of how tall and adult he looked, and because of this she lingered in her doorway for a second or two to look him over out of a sense of surprise and curiosity. A surprise from the first moment, hm? Surrendering the opportunity to seize the initiative as she did so as well, the blonde scholar looked over this slim and objectively slightly dashing figure with a gaze that wanted to devour every detail about him, and as she noted how assertive he seemed with her, a woman who was a good ten years older than her. But did not find that fact particularly off-putting really, after all, she had been quite the precocious youngster as well. “Ah, Sophie is fine~” Finally finding her words after a second or two to allow her guest to greet her, as she found herself being called by her surname the scientific siren could only smirk and nudge the thick-rimmed lenses she was wearing up a little ways, and then offer a little correction as to what she could be called. “It’s nice to meet you Ray~” Not really the type to stand all that much on ceremony in this regard and happier than most academics to foster something closer to a friendship with her prospective patients, the girl in the glasses offered out her hand to shake as she returned the greeting of this young man who had come to meet her and found her gaze continuing to explore him curiously, silently wondering just what gifts this tall teen might reveal to her in the examination that would fellow. “Heheheh, well that makes two of us, doesn’t it~?” That matter also seeming to be on the mind of her subject as well, as Ray professed a desire to learn more about himself and the quirk that he had been given Miss Sequoia could readily profess a similar desire as she studied him, almost as if she was trying to memorize his features or find something unusual about his initial appearance that she could add to her notes for later on. However in that matter it would seem that this lad was rather ready to pass for normal, or at least what society was currently seeming to present that status as. “I think you’d probably be more comfortable in here?” All too quickly the eager youngster seeming to want to inquire about how best they might proceed, though this aspect of him was something that took her by surprise given how she usually had to coax hesitant stranger’s into her lab for further study it was an easy element for Sophie to work with, and consequently she dipped her head and stepped to the side to allow him through the door in front of her. “Take a seat please~” Always a fan of those who liked a little efficiency, once her subject had entered her room of examination the young scholar would follow after him and gesture to a chair that waited next to her desk, as she herself collected up a clipboard ready to get things under way in short order…

"Oh, uh. Yeah. Sophie, it is then," he muttered a little taken back by the informality of it mingled with the lustrous look over an older woman. The feeling was underscored by the general reason he was there. This woman was going to study him and his quirk and all the ins and outs that came with it. She came off more friendly than just someone who wanted to pock and prod at him, which was something he appreciated. He returned the handshake with a smile."Nice to meet you too," he replied, feeling a bit silly that he had forgotten that initially or got swept up in getting things started. he thought about asking how many others had walked through those doors and what had happened to them. Questions he dismissed as regardless of the answer he would agree nonetheless. Something about the woman was enough to bolster his resolve about his choice. She didn't seem the type to have anything dangerous, at least not at this impression, although even during the handshake he couldn't shake the feeling she was sizing him up.
He caught himself in the brief seconds of pause between conversation, watching her back as she quickly examined his features. her witty remark gave him a one-sided grin. it was nice to have someone with a sense of humor. that would probably make things go a lot easier. "Then I'm in your capable hands," he added with a nod.
Upon her suggestion, he stepped past her and into the laboratory section. Crossing the threshold he suddenly had a feeling that this would either be a brief encounter or he'd be seeing this wall for some time to come. It was a bit more private which was something that already put him at ease. He didn't want too many people overhearing what was going on about his quirk. mostly for privacy sake. He imagined with the woman's honeyed tone that it was easy for her to find subjects.
The lab was what he expected. test tubes neatly stacked and a small chair next to a desk. She gestured toward it and he crossed the room to ease into the seat, "Yeah This is more relaxing," he said honestly before turning his attention to the woman that now held a clipboard.
"Alright then," he began, a little nervous as it was not often in his life that he was the focus like this. "My quirks name is Aqua Genesis. It lets me control water from my body and at a range. I mostly make barriers with it. Domes and bubbles. I can use it to attack too but to a lesser degree. By adjusting the surface tension of the water I can make it almost as hard concrete." he wouldn't conjure anything unless asked to just in case she wanted something specific for that.
Ray glanced over the counter for her instruments and saw a small scalpel. "May I," he asked politely as she had been nothing but courteous to him and he reached over to the cutting tool and brought it to himself. With it in his hand, he rolled up his shirt sleeve. "I can also uh..." he made a tiny cut on his arm with it and set it back down. The wound slowly covered over with water and the skin closed up, healing the wound. "Regenerate." He stopped so she wouldn't have to rush with her notes and waited for any follow-up questions.

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ Goodness, straight into business then? The blue eyes of the beauty fluttering as her lashes washed over them in a repeated blink, it seemed as soon as they had finished their pleasantries the young subject she had called into her lab began to describe his skills, and then took things a step further than that still. He’s keen, and so am I, but… Even more astounded when the young man scooped up a scalpel and plunged it into her flesh, even though the more scientific part of Miss Sequoia’s mind was keen to see the reason for the confidence in Ray’s skills of recovery, she still couldn’t help but feel rather alarmed both with the method of demonstration and the apparent enthusiasm with which he dictated it. Which prompted her to act with her own quirk. “Ray, I would understand if you’re nervous but there’s no reason to rush through this stuff like some kind of test in school…?” Reaching forward and resting her hand on the top of the one that her young charge as she spoke, Sophie then took a small breath in as she attempted to create a blue bubble of protection around both of their mitts as she activated her own quirk, though this was more as a gesture to slow him than an actual desire to trap him or protect herself. “And, perhaps hold back on the self-harm as well?” Both scientifically and psychologically what this student had done feeling somewhat disturbing to the blonde beauty, it was something she would neither condone nor encourage, though as she cautioned him the cautious Canadian at least tried to offer a smile to soothe him as well. “As impressive as your regeneration skill might be, and don’t get me wrong it’s intriguing…” It really rather worrying how quickly the situation had seemed to run out of her control and the urgency with which the young man had seemed to act in his demonstration, it was curious in a way to note that he had been happier to push a scalpel into his skin than show off the wonderful water-based skill he possessed, but that was by the by really. The situation needed to be reined in rather quickly. “This isn’t some kind of carnival freak show?” Cocking her head as she offered a warning against such behaviour in future as gently and as encouragingly as she could manage, while it was hard to be put under the microscope no matter who you were, Miss Sequoia was more used to those who sought to evade the spotlight rather than those who seemed so keen on thrusting themselves into it, and as such had not been wholly prepared for someone to lurch at the task as they saw it so fiercely. “We don’t need to dive straight into the deep end so recklessly?” Thinking that was perhaps partly her fault and maybe some of her own enthusiasm and desire to get down to business had rubbed off on the boy too readily, with a pleading pair of eyes like sapphires Sophie looked toward her young specimen and sighed as she held his hand and gave it a gentle squeeze, before releasing her quirk and holding her palm out in order to take the scalpel from the young man. “Just try to relax, OK?” This boy probably just full of nerves and out of his element ultimately, while the brainy beauty was quick to caution him against what he had done she would also be forgiving of it two, and happy to start again at a more sedate and scientifically suited pace if he was?

Ray cocked his brow when Sophie responded in surprise. he didn't really feel nervous, it was more of his upbringing of getting down to business. Her next comment made him even more confused as it seemed she thought he was some crazed student ready to harm himself in some deep-rooted depression. "Uh," he uttered, surprise at the activation of her quirk. he poked the pink force field, fascinating now by the demonstration of her own quirk.
"It's not... I'm not trying to rush. You just had the clipboard out so I thought we were starting," he replied a little surprised at her response to the largely superficial skin-deep cut he gave himself. The way she spoke was comforting but when she mentioned carnival freak show he felt something was little off between them. He sat relatively quiet as she kept trying to talk him down but he patiently waited for her to finish. "I just figured this was the reason I was here. I'm not treating it like a freak show, but I am here to show you my quirk and well...to be honest. Eventually, we'd talk about regeneration and I'd much rather show you where I'm at than, well...have you poke around and see," he replied with a small nervous chuckle now that her reaction was so abrupt to him, and he set the scalpel in her hand still as calm as when he first walked in.
"But I promise, I know the baseline of my regeneration. I wouldn't do anything more than scrap," he tried to reassure her now worried that she thought he was unstable. he decided to leave out the amount of bullies and beatings it took for him to get to that understanding. "I thought that you would treat me more methodically and formal. But I guess I ended up doing that to myself."he said with a shrug. He didn't expect things to have turned out this way. It was apparent now that this was more than just business for her, and there was more of a level of compassion involved. And now he really wasn't sure what to expect anymore. And that unknown element made him more nervous now than when he arrived.
She gave his hand a small squeeze and he looked away a little embarrassed at her kindness and how fetching she was. He had entered the lab with a clear mind and ready to go but now he was a bundle of confused emotions that he hid behind a calmer exterior. "Alright well, I'm ready when you are Miss Sequoia...Sophie"He decided to just sit and wait, but had no idea now what was going to follow or what she would ask.

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Hehehehe, I suppose I’m more used to dealing with people who are a little less willing, or able, to demonstrate their gifts?” Chuckling softly as she felt a slight sense of embarrassment as how hastily she had cautioned her young charge, especially after his explanation for his eagerness, Sophie smiled and ran her fingers back through her hair as she offered a little explanation for her reasoning and also gave a little bit of an overview of how things usually went down for her in the past. “And we were starting, but the methodology usually begins with some simple health and lifestyle questions, for the sake of the subject data?” Certainly appreciating the desire of her subject to get things underway speedily and efficiently and intrigued also by the hint of scientific understanding he showed as well, the blonde explained her process a bit better so as to clear up any misgivings about how their little session was going to go down, and as if to further clarify it turned her clipboard over to reveal the simple sections at the front of it for the boy to see as well. “But I suppose now we’re on the meat of the matter, we can probably save those for the end?” This lad seeming like he was the sort of person who liked to get stuck into things as she was as well, however, even though protocol dictated a specific routine of doing these kinds of investigations Miss Sequoia decided that it would be fine to mix things up a little with Ray, given the fact that he seemed ready and raring to go. “Wrap up with the boring stuff?” Not really wanting to stifle his enthusiasm or the rapport she hoped they were building by taking them back too many steps because of the strangeness in the beginning of their meeting, so long as the more trivial elements of her study were covered at some point it was fine by this angel of academia if they jumped into something a bit juicier, and as such she smiled as she flicked through a few pages of her prospective notes onto something that would be a bit more fun for both of them. “So, in order to get onto something more intriguing, but also not rush into anything too risky before we’re both relaxed…” Still not quite ready to have him be flinging around balls of water or slicing himself with the scalpel again for the moment however, and not just because she hadn’t turned on her camera in order to document the feats for later study, instead Sophie was as interested in the discovery of the boy’s quirk as the ability itself for the most part. “Why don’t you tell me when, and perhaps how, you first noticed you had your powers?” Quirks still a subject of great speculation but certain patterns seeming to establish some specifics in their developmental process, the young scholar was keen to see where her first subject might fall upon the ‘curve’ that had been established by bright minds both within and outside of this lab, and hopefully begin to add her own conformation on matters they had begun to prove…

He smiled at her soft chuckle. It did ease the situation and Ray was a bit more relaxed now that it seemed they were getting back on the same page with one another. "I'm more of the all-in type, but I guess I could dial it back a little some times. i didn't mean to make you worry for me." The situation made him feel like he was in safe hands with her though.
"Yeah, that does make sense. I never looked at it that way," he replied shaking his head at finally looking to the clipboard to see the simple questions she was ready, to begin with. He never figured that she would want something that in-depth and that it would just be all about the quirk. But the quirk was a part of him and a lifestyle would certainly play a role depending on a person's quirk after all. It seemed like she was about to learn far more about him than he surmised from his initial assumption.
"That sounds good to me," he said and settled into his seated position. She was very open and flexible, as she found a bit of common ground for a place for them to both start with. He was ready to answer whatever questions she had, both exciting and routine. She flipped through the pages, and Ray eyed them with a cocked-brow, curious as to just how many pages they were going to go through and what all questions there were.
It seemed this meeting would be a passive one, and part of him was thankful for it. Now that they got by the awkward start he was starting to steadily feel more at ease. And he was fascinated by the idea of how much a quirk related to mental state, which is something he figured she was after as well.
She asked him a question about the origin of his quirk and he looked away for a moment in thought. For all the readiness he had in getting into the details of the quirk, he gave this question a moment of pause. "hmm, It manifested when I was pretty young. Small things at first like a burst of water from the fountain or puddles of water that would stick to my feet as I walked. But there was an earthquake once while I was at school. The building was falling apart and some of my classmates were trapped. Some debris started to fall and I just moved. That's when I made my first barrier," he shook his head again and looked down, "It was a lot weaker back then. Messy too. The sides were all different shapes...But most of them got out until the firefighters showed up." he brought his attention back to Sophie and took a slow breath through his nose. "The regen didn't come until later."
"Luckily my mother had the same quirk. She taught me how to control it once she knew." He looked back to face her and his expression turned away from the wistful if not slightly painful memory of his past. "

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Was that before you started school, perhaps? When you noticed it first?” Perhaps relying a little on the research that had come before today as she tried to nudge her subject for a slightly more precise answer on his description of initial manifestation, while she wasn’t going to lose much sleep if he contradicted her guess or couldn’t properly recall the specifics of his story the sound of it seemed familiar, and Sophie was happy to see if her experience might help to line the data up with what they already knew. The feet is an interesting observation though, hands is a more common focus point for quirk abilities? Certainly interested in the details he revealed all the same, the pen of the young scientist scratched and scribbled at the paper as she noted his story down as quickly as she could manage in a fashion that was admittedly rather messy and typical of a doctor, enthralled even if she didn’t seem the most responsive or engaging conversationalist as she did so. “In an earthquake…? Gosh, that must have been… So awful.” Looking up from her work when the lad mentioned the earthquake he was trapped in with his classmates, her detail orientated brain seemed to pick up the term ‘ most of them got out’ among his description and for some reason the implication of that made her feel a bit sad, yet she did not wish to dwell too heavily on potential loss out of consideration for the feelings of the boy. “I’m so sorry you went through that, Ray? Truly…” Not trapped in an earthquake but Miss Sequoia herself having been through an ordeal in which she was forced to use her quirk a few years back against another person and that affecting her more than she expected, because of this she felt a strong sympathy toward the plight that affected him, especially when it sounded like it had done so at such a young age, and offered an apology for that even though it had nothing to do with her. It just felt right to do so, really. “Y-You’re a second generation quirker?” Not given all that much time to dwell on that particular misfortune when her mind was drawn toward another tasty little gem in her description, though Sophie had been looking toward and writing her notes she couldn’t help but glance up in surprise when her subject mentioned the fact that he shared his ability with a parent, which was really quite exciting to hear. “Gosh, how exciting, you’re my first…” The newness of the global revolution meaning that the children of those who had been blessed with abilities were only now coming to the forefront, the intrigued intellectual couldn’t help but widen her eyes and smile at the news that the lad had seemed to inherit his powers from a similarly gifted matriarch, and envied him in a way as well. “Do you have the exact same powers as your mother?” A latecomer in the original ‘round’ of quirks, her own parents were what people would call ‘normal’, and Miss Sequoia couldn’t help but wonder how her life might have been if her mother or her father had a gift that was similar to hers. “Water manipulation and bodily regeneration?” That however by the by at the moment and the prospect of testing the difference between the generations even more appealing to her right now, in many ways the blonde wished that Ray had brought his mom with him right now, so that she could compare them and marvel at how similar or defined their abilities were from one another…

He should have been more specific and Sophie's follow-up question showed that she wanted to learn every little detail. The time it manifested felt like a long time ago in what all had changed since then but he remembered it clearly. "I was 12 when the quake happened. But I think my earliest memory of weird things happening because of my quirk was 6?,"he asked wondering how he compared to the other subjects that she studied and general quirk users altogether. Throughout his youth, his mother had tried to conceal his quirk and have him live a life without it.
The woman he told his story too, was keeping track of everything he said. He didn't know a person could write that fast. "As I got older water started getting attracted to my whole body. I can absorb water into my skin to replenish it," he elaborated on his story about the puddle and his foot as Sophie took careful note of that one. He leaned his arm on the desk next to the chair, trying to find any other way to sit than just upright and looking at her.
He made eye-contact with her as she finally looked up from her notes to console him. His lips parted slightly and he took in a shallow breath. His lips pressed back together and he exhaled through his nose, "Thank you. It was...a tough time," he replied with a head tilt and a small squint to his eyes. He had never talked to anyone about that before or had someone reach out to him with kind words about it for years. The memory was usually kept tucked away and hidden. Despite her fiercely analytical mind, Sophie was easy to talk to. Maybe it helped that she was a doctor and there was a level of confidentiality too.
"It's nothing," he dismissed it and looked away from her once more and brought his arm closer to his body and placed his hands in his lap to regather his thoughts and find where he was again. He appreciated her concern, but exploring those memories aloud was new to him.
Ray cocked his brow at Sophie's sudden reaction to that information. He had never paid attention to if that was a big deal or not. "Uh...yeah?"he replied nervously to her excitement. When she called him her first he put his arm back on the table and held his head up with it, a little embarrassed by her phrasing and scratched the back of his head. "Oh...That is exciting," he replied and cleared his throat to bring back some of his bravado.
"Yeah almost. We can both regenerate and manipulate water. She can only make barriers but I've been able to use it to attack as well." he gave it some more quick thought on whatever she may ask next about the comparison. "We both have the same way of manipulating it and it affects us the same with dehydration and fatigue." It was a fact about his mother that he didn't know for a long time but once everything was out, it brought them closer together.
"I don't think I know the full extent of her capabilities. We didn't get far in our training together. And then I moved here," the Canadian born boy remarked. Now he was an ocean away from her and likely wouldn't see her for some time.

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ A year or two older than the research might dictate, but since we’re talking about things a decade ago it’s possible something happened before he doesn’t recall, given the initial subtlety of his powers especially? Once again the machine that was Sophie’s mind going into overdrive as she digested another intriguing little piece of data and made her own assessment based on it, while what was revealed did not entirely seem to suit the model that she and others focused on understanding these powers had hypothesized it was also not wholly discouraging either, and only narrowly outside the window of possibility really. Hopefully as public acceptance grows the manifestation of quirks and assessment will occur at younger ages? Like check-ups in childhood? In many ways the story simply affirming the belief of this particular academic angel that the younger years of potential quirkers were a prime area of discovery and perhaps also aid to the development of the people involved, though she knew some might feel uneasy about having their babes poked and prodded it seemed to this ravishing researcher that with the right approach the world could only benefit, and hopefully in the nearer period of the future this might become something that became accepted as a natural part of life? “Don’t worry, we won’t linger on harsh memories?” Clearly the topic of the earthquake something that brought the lad a feeling of discomfort and that rather understandable, as Ray fidgeted with his hands Miss Sequoia found her sympathy skyrocketing, and leaned forward to rest her hand on his reassuringly as she offered a small smile and words to let him know this was something he could avoid if he wanted. Or perhaps not, if he didn’t? “Unless you want to talk about them?” This mostly about her research but the empathy of the young scholar enough that she wouldn’t mind taking a break from her findings if he needed to vent his grief or something, while the scientific siren knew she was no psychologist and could only offer an ear and her best understanding it might have helped him to talk about it, and if he really needed someone more able to help she would also have been able to use her sway in the community to find a counsellor as well, if that was what he needed. “Oh my yes, it seems I have found a gem in my lab, apparently?” That something that Sophie would leave hanging as their topic moved back toward the light and something a bit more informative, as her young subject seemed to show a bit of excitement in being her first son of a quirker gun she smiled and winked at him as she offered a few playful words, and then picked her pen back up to continue their examination. “I see, so your powers have evolved a little when compared to hers?” Nodding as the lad divulged a bit of deviation between the abilities of himself and the woman who had borne him, in truth the answer only served to make this eager lady of learning more enthusiastic about having the woman as a comparison, and as such she felt a little disappointed when the boy inferred that was unlikely to happen. “Oh that’s a shame… Did you move here alone?” In many ways the story of this boy seeming to follow her own tale of venturing from her home in order to seek out an excitement opportunity for education and career, because Miss Sequoia herself had been through this experience herself she felt another pang of sympathy and understanding with Ray about his current circumstance, and since she felt a bit sad that he was parted from his parent enquired about the matter despite the fact that it had little to do with her research. “Actually, it’s one of the more trivial aspects but whereabouts are you from, Ray?” The curiosity of the brainy blonde growing more and more in regard to this boy both because of his abilities and the hints of similarity she seemed to share with him, even though it was one of the less significant aspects of her usual interview she couldn’t help but feel possessed to ask about where he came from as well, and would probably be pleasantly surprised by the answer he might have been able to give to her…

Everything he said, the woman seemed to absorb and analyze in great detail and thought. It was like she made connections where he only saw disjointed pieces of information. The young hero in training could only spout off what he remembered and hoped that it was good enough for her to make use of it. In the end, he was elated at the prospect of hearing her thesis on what he was capable of and what it meant.
The topic had grown heavy and delved into the deeper trials of Ray's life. Memories that he skirted around and in his awkward rumblings while he spoke, he felt a hand reach out to his. Her soothing words accompanied the gentle squeeze from her hand on his. He looked back at her with lips slightly ajar, "Uh," he responded in surprise although it was a welcome one. It served to lessen the burden on his mind, "Thank you." Were he the more emotional type he could have found himself weeping his past into her shoulder. But for now, he restrained his outpour, but his eyes welcomed the thought. If there was a person he had met here so far that he felt comfortable in confiding in it was Sophie.
"Not much to tell about that day really..." he took a slow breath. "I remember the ruble that fell from the ceilings..and creating a barrier of water above myself and some of the students. It stopped the debris for a moment...long enough to crawl through to safety." He replied with an ache in his heart and leaving out the detail of the ones left to meet a darker fate. "A piece of debris struck me, and I remember feeling the trying to hold back the blood. I passed out from shock and when I came to, I was in an ambulance, and the wound was gone."There were some clear details missing but, he didn't know how much she wanted to know, nor or far he could travel down that road so soon.
As their topic turned to something a bit lighter. He smiled at her words and when she winked his ears filled with warmth and a slight blush appeared on his face. He looked away. Over the years he worked hard to fine-tune a personality of indifference and trying to play it cool, but something about the older doctor tip-toed around it.
"Yeah. other than the ability to attack though, they are identical. I don't know if she has ever tried to use them for offense though."Despite talking about his mom, he knew very little about her abilities and what all she was capable of. They had spent years avoiding it and only when he became a problem did she reveal her own in earnest.
Her next question made the conversation more casual than an interview and Ray didn't mind. Contrary to his previous rush into experimentation the light-hearted detours she took became a relaxing stride for him as well. "Yeah. Both my parents stayed home. It's taken some getting used to." He did miss them, but not as much as he thought he would. he didn't have time to resolve those emotions between class and internships. But it may have been the case he used those as excuses to evade those feelings.
"I assume you ask everything for a reason," he replied with a lopsided smile. "I was born in Canada. My mom's Canadian and my dad is Chinese. They sent me here because they said this school is the best," he shrugged.
"But your countries language was a hard to learn," he chuckled. It was also a roundabout way of finding out if she was born here or not. He was curious about her as well but caught between asking questions or sticking to answers as it was an interview for him.

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Heh, no wonder UA was glad to have you, it sounds like you’re already a hero?” Clearly the topic at hand something that was not the most comforting thing to think about and as such the blonde finding herself impressed bravery of the boy as he discussed it so openly, in an effort to reassure her subject Sophie leaned forward and offered the kindest smile she could whilst reaching toward his hand to squeeze that as well, and spoke as optimistically as she could about the event in the hopes of brightening the opinion of the lad about it a little better. “Thanks for telling me, I was caught up in something a few years ago… A hostage incident?” It never easy to reveal something that made one feel so vulnerable as something involving strong emotions like fear or the feeling of regret, after nodding the scholar opted to share her own experience partly in the hope of letting her junior know they had some common ground but also in something of an act of quid pro quo as well, so that he didn’t feel so off kilter about being the only one sharing secrets here. “I had to use my quirk as well, but I’m fine now? Certified sane by my therapist and everything?” Unsure exactly of what Ray might make of her story and perhaps somewhat brief in it so as not to overshadow his own feeling with some perceived game of one-upmanship, Miss Sequoia hoped that sharing his experience had been helpful to him as it had been her when she had been through counselling, and also wanted to offer a little bit of ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ as she made a joke about her experience as well at the end. “But I understand what you’ve been through, to an extent, so… If you need someone to talk to just get in touch, OK Ray?” Ultimately sensitive and sympathetic to the ordeal of such a young person however and reaching over to her desk a moment later, though she didn’t know if the lad had sought some form of professional help for his issues in the aftermath or not she wanted this young man to know he wasn’t alone if he didn’t want to be and jotted down her cell phone number for him before passing it over, and was happy to take some time out of her schedule to lend an ear if he needed it for this or anything else really. He seemed a fine figure, and so she was happy to help him, ultimately. “It’s weird at first, isn’t it? Like there’s a hole in your life?” Perhaps the issues of person seeming to get the better of her research as well when they discussed another matter in which they had a common position, even though Sophie had been keen on pursuing her dream position of study as well and was rarely the sort who seemed to see companionship when she was fulfilled intellectually even she had noted a certain loneliness about moving so far away from home, which she had no conquered but could recall vividly and empathize with. “Canada? Wow, not I wish I’d asked that question earlier…” That sense of sympathy seeming to quickly give way to a smiling sense of excitement a moment later when the youngster before her revealed a fact she did not expect at all, as he confessed the fact that he came from the nation some knew as the great white north the blonde could only smile at the coincidence she saw, and broke into English a moment later when the topic of language was brought up by the bow. “I’m from Vancouver originally myself…” Bouncing into her native tongue and an inherent twang of British Columbia as she confirmed another sense of commonality between them, Miss Sequoia beamed with amusement at a revelation that felt like it had taken its time coming, and found herself delighted to engage unexpected with a fellow canuck. “What about you, Ray?” It truly rather strange how one little piece of information could put a whole different inflection on a conversation, even though the blue eyed biologist would have ordinarily been far hungrier to eat up information on a person’s quirk on this occasion she couldn’t help but delight in the idea that they were from roughly the same place, and in a way felt happy to meet someone from back home. It was like meeting an old member of her family she had never seen before or something…

The gentle approach she had in conversing brought a feeling of comfort with it. Her touch was a soothing break in the unsettling memory that he recounted for her. The compliment she peppered in only made his face flush a little more. "Oh uh. Thank you but it was really nothing," he replied gratefully and not used to such flattering things. The attention that had trailed away in embarrassment was brought back when Sophie opened up about her own past. It was nice to have someone share a story back, so he didn't feel as though he was the lone person out in the ocean and clinging to a life raft.
He chuckled at the passing joke that trailed at the end of her story, "Thanks for sharing that. It's nice to feel like I'm not the only one. I mean I know that I wasn't...but it's different when you hear someone else talk about it," the words came out much more relaxed. "Can I ask...what happened?" he knew it was a small detour to the task at hand but was curious how things turned out for her. The talk felt more natural to him now. Having talked about it with her, he felt a small weight lift from his shoulders. It was a time he never really spoke about and getting at least some of it off his chest was a relief.
He cocked his brow when she made the first offer and it wasn't until she jotted down her number that it hit him. He was getting her number. Even though it was something purely professional, he couldn't help his heart beating a bit faster and was glad she wasn't taking his pulse. He cleared his throat and carefully took the note as not to bump hands with her. "Oh yeah," he started off trying to play it cool but paused. "Thank you, Sophie. I haven't really talked to anyone about it." he tucked the slip of paper into the pocket of his dress shirt, happy that he had someone to talk to if he needed. "U.A. is lucky to have you too."
"Yeah," he nodded when she compared being away from home like a hole. "It's tough to come home to something so different each day. And the little things, like learning how to ride a bus all over again," he added with his own joke at the end and shaking his head. He was always a loner at home, but being away brought more thoughts about his family to mind.
"yeah," he questioned, unsure about where her excitement about it came from. It was probably uncommon here, though. Once she spoke in English his face lit up and he leaned forward with both hands on his knees.
"No way," he replied back in English, noticeably more fluent and confident in his speech."Yeah, I guess we should have started with the basics. I was raised mostly in Toronto' It was a visible delight to be able to speak his native tongue and more importantly to meet someone in a distant country that shared his homeland. He leaned back in the chair. "What are the odds? Did you come all the way here for U.A. too? And your Japanese is really good." Not only had she opened herself for him to talk to about his troubles but she turned out to be a person that shared a similar history as him. It was a small pocket of familiarity for the Canadian born student. For a moment the reason he had come here in the first place nearly slipped his mind.

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Hehehehe, well I’m not totally sure of all the specifics myself, but…” Lifting her hand and running her fingers back through to and around her ponytail as her subject asked her about her own experience, though maybe they were veering a little far from the scientific situation at hand Sophie felt that his openness with her was something she should respect and return, and as she spoke hoped that talking of her own experiences would encourage the lad with his own difficulties. “A few ne'er-do-wells took over a small store here in Tokyo to protest quirker rights, or perhaps people having quirks themselves, whilst I was a student?” Perhaps feeling a hint of tension when she went into her memory and remembered the day she wished to describe, this was probably reflected in the fact that the blonde beauty seemed to shift unknowingly into a slightly stiffer posture as a response to this, but despite the lingering sense of apprehension that she felt she wished to answer as honestly and informatively as possible. “I was there, obviously, and they kind of herded us up with a list of demands and well, as you’d expect of a hostage situation…” Many of the details of her day seeming to have been lost to the passage of time and how her memory seemed to highlight some details over others, much of what had led to her unfortunate experience seemed to have become vague even in her own honed mind and even then she wasn’t entirely sure how many of the details were accurate or blanks that had been informed somewhat after the fact, but regardless of this she spoke coolly and carefully as she documented that dark day. “Things were pretty tense but some brave vigilante’s burst in to take them down, and I responded kind of reflexively when one of them tried to grab me and use me as a human shield? I used my own ‘shield’ to throw him off me…” Pulling her hands together in another show of mild discomfort when she remembered the violence that had occurred in her presence before offering up a little live demonstration of the event, or at least a hint of it, as Miss Sequoia looked toward Ray she smiled and then activated her quirk again for a little display as she made a small and flat ‘sheet’ of psychokinetic energy around the size of a piece of paper and thrust it away from her with her palm like she described in her story, before allowing it to dissipate into nothingness again. “I was kind of shaken afterwards… I mean it’s not as if I’m the most emotional person in the world but it… Had its effect on me?” Shaking her head as she remembered the number that even this simple experience had on her, though she was mostly over the experience and had recovered from it in many ways that didn’t stop the memory making her feel somewhat sad in retrospect, that so many had been through so much; and perhaps revealed a little naiveté since she included the criminals included in that number. “Though in many ways it helped me to become stronger after the fact? I took up Judo and a few other forms of self-defence so I could regain my confidence?” Smiling after a few moments however as she tried to remain her usual bubbly and upbeat self despite the experience, though it had been something nasty to go through Sophie felt in a way like she had come out the other side as a better person, and because of that decided it would be foolish to consider it all bad. Which was something that she hoped one day the boy before her would feel about his own trouble as well. “Heeheeheehee, Toronto is a lovely place~” Happy to move onto a topic that they could share which a little bit lighter, as Ray confessed his Canadian credentials in full the brainy beauty beamed and chuckled, and could remember both visiting and enjoying the city he came from happily. “Hahahah, UA wasn’t around when I got here… Goodness, are you trying to charm me by saying I look that young, Ray?” Even more amused when the young man seemed to ask about her own presence in the country and for one reason or another seeming to assume his intention had to do with thinking she was a classmate or something, Miss Sequoia was left smirking at the perhaps foolish assumption that she made and a second later was batting her lashes at such a query next before grinning, and resting her chin on her hand in a relaxed fashion, finding their humour having swept away any ill feeling the memory had inflicted upon her rather quickly. It was always better to dwell upon something nice rather than nasty, after all…
