A few things about U. A. High that were really surprising Misa had shown up. For starters, everyone here seemed to be truly amazing and there wasn't really any odd man out there that wasn't something special, but really that wasn't the most surprising thing. No, the most surprising thing was probably the amount of non hero related classes and clubs that the school was filled with. She should have guessed there would be a lot after she met Elise, that girl was the definition of the phrase multi talented. Misa had thought that her Meister would be more of an outlier than the average, and though Elise and her talents and skills were anything but average it was clear she wasn't as huge an outlier as Misa had thought.
It made her want to be better herself, so one of the first things she did when classes started was look at the different clubs and classes they offered. There were some that seemed very useful for the career. Martial arts was one, robotics was another. She was sure those skills could be applied to being a hero... but something about the clubs made Misa think that she should broaden her horizons. She would be training to be a hero at school every day and at the gym every night. She wanted to be able to more than just that. Maybe it was because she wanted to be like Elise? Amazing at everything? She hadn't even met the number one student yet, so maybe being multi talented would impress Tetsu when they finally were able to meet!
Her first thought was literature. It was a fun sounding class, and Misa loved reading and writing occasionally. Was it a little too... dorky, though? Maybe. Also, not a very practical skill for anything. No, maybe she should just stick to reading on her own for fun instead of attempting to improve herself at it. She should find something else. She went down the list some more and finally spotted it. The cooking club. As soon as she spotted that, the other classes seemed like silly choices. She wanted to become a better cook! She always enjoyed cooking and it was a practical skill. "That's the one. Definitely."
She took one of the tabs that had a room number on it for where the club met, nodding confidently as she started navigating the halls. She was still a new student, so she wasn't the best at finding things yet. There was still time before it started though, so she had the chance to take her time. When she did get there, the class was still empty. Of course. She was thirty minutes early, after all. She stepped in, putting her bag on a seat in the front row and looking around.

Tetsuko Shindou was fairly well known among her peers. After all, she had earned a fairly prestigious spot among the first cohort of students, and had made an effort to help her peers. Yet, even she, U.A.'s #1, had more to her than met the eye. Though most people generally associated her with her iron-willed command, traditionally Japanese aesthetic, and combat prowess, Tetsuko wasn't all swords and seriousness. After all, as much as she loved the art of Kenjutsu and all that it had brought into her life, there were certain stressors that had always been attached, and that necessitated other, more relaxing hobbies that she could enjoy.
One of the more useful of which was cooking.
The ironblodded girl had always been one to manage her diet and eating habits, so when she got the chance to join U.A.'s cooking club and take greater control over her nutritional intake, she saw it as a perfect opportunity. Plus, being able to cook nice food was always a benefit. Since then, she'd had plenty of fun with the club, and had taken their lessons into her daily life. Cooking for herself and her girlfriend plenty, and making it into a hobby that was both enjoyable and useful.
Having decided to meet up with the cooking club that day to further enjoy this hobby of hers, Tetsuko would end up also arriving earlier than normal to their clubroom, in order to try and get a headstart in prepping some of her own meals. She wanted to do a bit of extra training over the next few days, so some carefully prepared bentos where highly important.
As she stepped into the room, however, Tetsuko would find herself taken aback by the presence of an unfamiliar, yet oddly familiar, face. A girl with blue eyes and light hair, who reminded Tetsuko of her younger self. It was a curious sight, but she didn't forget her manners, bowing her head lightly to the other girl in greeting.
"Ah, hello. Are you a new member? Well, then let me be the first to introduce myself. I'm Tetsuko Shindou, it's nice to meet you."

Getting here early seemed to be a mistake for the young teen, as she sat in the room looking around at the supplies and things scattered about the environment. Did she really belong here, she asked herself. Was she going to embarrass herself in front of strangers? Sure, she liked cooking enough and always had fun doing it. That did not mean that she was any good at it. Not by a long shot. What would she do if everyone who showed up were really good and made her look like a joke? She wondered if she should maybe just leave. A few more tense moments passed for the girl before she decided that yes, she should probably just leave. She was about to stand up when someone else walked through the door.
Misa's eyes widened a bit at the girl. She looked like a more grown version of herself, and Misa was quickly able to deduce that this must be Tetsu. Elise's other half and the number one student at U. A. High. Of all the people to be walking in now, why did it have to be the greatest student at the school?! Oh no, she couldn't just leave now. That would look even worse, most likely. So instead she stood and bowed to her senpai low. It did well to hide her slight blush. Her suspicions were confirmed when the stranger introduced herself as the one and only Tetsuko Shindou.
"A-ah! Yes, well, no but... ano, uhm, I was here to check out the club. I'm a new student here. My name is Misako Suzuki, but please call me Misa. Everyone does. You are... Tetsuko. Sorry if it sounds weird that I know you already, heh, I uhm... well, I'm friends with Mei-er Elise. She told me a bit about you. We do look a bit similar, don't we? Heh."
Misa straightened herself back up, looking around nervously. Gods, she really had to get over this shyness that plagued her. It was starting to get embarrassing. "I was wondering if the club might have room for me? I'm not a great cook but... I really do like cooking. I want to be better, and I'm told that having a hobby would help me progress in other things too! Not... that I have to explain that to you, I'm sure. I'll stop talking now, okay?"
She let out an awkward laugh, putting her hand behind her head and looking back at Tetsu with an awkward grin.

Tetsuko was somewhat aware that introducing herself may be unnecessary. Her status within the school wasn't lost on her, but she did her best to treat it with humility. The swordswoman didn't want to be treated as better than her peers, and was fine being treated as nothing more than another one of their senpais. Her #1 position was just a responsibility; something that meant she had to do her utmost to keep up her duties and be a respectable student of the academy.
...Of course, as much as she wanted to be treated equally, Tetsuko often found new students could be a bit nervous around her because of the circumstances. Well, local ones, anyway. This was certainly the case with the First Year she'd stumbled across in the cooking club room, who seemed a very polite young woman judging by her strong bow.
This shy kouhai, however, quickly became very interesting. Tetsuko's brow was raised quickly at the reveal that Misako knew Elise, immediately curious as to how the two were related. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Misa-chan. You should count yourself lucky, I grew my hair out after First Year, if I hadn't, we might qualify as doppelgangers." The Shindou girl joked, with a welcoming smile.
"That being said, you've met Elise before?" The swordswoman's interest was piqued, wondering what the details where. Elise was much more of a social butterfly than Tetsuko, so she was curious under what circumstances Misako had met the Germanic lass.
Once Misako straightened herself up, Tetsuko tried to remain upright and calm, wanting to be approachable to her underclassman. Being a good senpai was something she always, always tried to do. That often meant calming the nerves of her easily-flustered kouhais.
"Ah, you needn't worry so much. I was much the same when I joined this club." Tetsuko would say with a dismissive wave of her hand. "I was utterly hopeless when I first joined. I'm good with a blade, less so with a kitchen knife. But, like you, I wanted to try and make a hobby of it. Not only is cooking fun, it's an extremely useful skill to have for a Hero. Eating right is important, after all."
The ironblooded girl was a bit of a nutrition nut, so cooking was a wonderful skill for her to have. Tetsuko gave Misako a dignified smile, trying again to make her feel welcomed. Although, the Shindou girl couldn't help but think at how different they were despite similar appearances...
Of course, Tetsuko had been quite socially awkward in her First Year, but in a very different way.

Tetsuko seemed to be aware of her own intimidating presence, and Misa was obviously not doing great at hiding the fact that she was nervous. She felt a little bad, not wanting to make her Senpai feel as though she was a scary presence or anything. So when she straightened, she cleared her throat a bit and steeled her nerves as best as she could. "Yes, it's wonderful to meet you too... and yes, I have to wonder if my stylist had seen you around somewhere and wanted to copy the look, heh. Either way, I'm excited to get to work with you."
Tetsu, in a few short words and without really asking, pressed for some more information on how Misa knew Elise. Misa brightened up, relaxing a bit at the casual question. She took a moment to decide how she wanted to word it. "Yes! It was a random accident, really. A happy one though. I was out shopping by myself when I overheard some beautiful singing. I just had to go meet the creator! She was amazing. You're really lucky, Tetsuko!"
Ah, but that might have sounded bad. Misa didn't want to give the impression that she was interested in Elise as anything but a friend, no, that would be disrespectful. "Me and Lyse really hit it off too. She's wonderful. I'm excited to see more of her too. Maybe the four of us could hang out sometime. Like a double date!"
A lot more relaxed, the freshman kept interested as the topic switched back to cooking. Tetsuko was much the same when she started, and for some reason Misa felt like that was a white lie to help her feel better about not being very good at cooking. The idea that the great Tetsuko not being excellent at even just one thing seemed... taboo, at best.
"I never really considered it that way, but I suppose eating and sleeping well are very important for a hero. I think it also helps to be able to invest time in something else, something that can be relaxing too. I know hero work takes priority, and requires a lot of concentration... but I guess having a hobby to stop yourself from overworking is important too. With a senpai as talented as you at my side, I'm sure it won't be long until I'm a respectable cook."
Misa was glad that she'd stayed here. Not only did she get to meet an impressive person like Tetsuko, but now she was comfortable and looking forward to learning how to cook properly. A step in the right direction.
"What's a good way to start practicing, senpai? Do you have a favorite dish? Oh, are there ingredients already here... that's probably important, yeah."

"Likewise, I look forward to working with you too, Misako-chan." Tetsuko said calmly, chuckling internally at the idea of a stylist copying her look. It was a bit of an interesting thought, but the Shindou girl didn't consider herself that popular by any means, so thought it was amusing to think about. What was also amusing, and quite interesting was to hear that Elise had had something of a chance encounter with Misa not too long ago. Being called lucky had Tetsuko wearing a fond smile, her cheeks reddening slightly. "You don't have to tell me that, I remind myself all the time... Erm, anyway, interesting that she met someone from U.A. during one of her performances." The swordswoman mused.
It only got more fascinating when Misa mentioned having gotten along well with Lyse, Elise's... Well, she wasn't quite clear on all the science there. The whole thing still confused Tetsuko somewhat, to the point where the idea of a double date did sound a bit imposing at first. "It... Could be an idea..." Tetsuko offered, thinking that at least she'd get the chance to hang out with her underclassman/doppelganger a bit more.
That aside, the topic switched to the probably much more currently relevant of cooking. Tetsuko was far from an expert herself, but was at least experienced enough to help out a beginner, she helped. If anything, the fact that she wasn't much beyond beginner herself may mean she was more familiar with Misa's concerns. Speaking of which, the girl elaborated on her own reasoning for wanting to get involved in the culinary arts, pointing out how it also served as a hobby that was 'separate' from the busy life as a Hero.
"That's a good point you make. It's important for us all to have hobbies, things we can distract ourselves with, else we might just lose our minds." Tetsuko said in agreement, as she herself had been thankful for 'distractions' plenty of times in the past.
When it came to showing her around, Misa set the bar pretty high for Tetsuko, who was really hoping she could respond to all of the other girl's worries and queries. Well, respond helpfully, at least!
"Well, my favorite dish is probably buri daikon, but seafood might be a bit much to start off with. Ah, yeah, we do have ingredients here, of course. As for how best to start..." Tetsuko raised a hand to her chin a moment, thinking back on how she'd gotten her start.
"No better way than to practice the real deal, hmm? There should be a few recipe books around, why don't you choose something you wanna cook? Something that doesn't look too hard, probably. I'll be here to help too, of course."

Tetsu thought it was interesting that Misa met Elise during a performance, and Misa thought about correcting the girl and saying that it was actually during a rehearsal, but realized that it was likely just as coincidental. Instead she just smiled and nodded with a giggle. The double date idea didn't seem to really catch her senpai's attention, but Misa didn't seem to mind. No way Tetsuko wanted to spend her free time hanging out with desperate underclassmen. Not when she was the school's number one, right?
The idea that it was because Lyse's existence was strange in itself didn't even cross Misa's mind, which might have said something about how accepting she was of the clone.
"Exactly what I thought, about the losing your mind thing. Overworking and losing your mentality is too easy in this line of work, I think. So much pressure and expectations, not to mention consequences... well, it's nice to have relaxing and fun hobbies to offset it, I think! Heck, you being here is kinda like proof. The number one student focuses on her hobbies too. I'll have to take notes."
Misa added a wink after the last part, smiling brightly. Maybe it was an idea for the school to make an extracurricular club a requirement? Misa didn't want to assume that everyone functioned the same way though. It was likely disrespectful, so maybe letting them stay optional was a better idea.
"I think the real deal is likely the best way to start! Besides, with you here I don't think I could mess up." She took the recipe book, flipping through it quickly to find something that she had never made before. She always loved making something for the first time! "Hmmm..."
What should she pick? Something easy, that she knew? She wasn't really trying to show off here, so she wasn't afraid of making mistakes. She wanted to try something new, if she was being honest, but would that burden Tetsu too much? Decisions, decisions. Ah, what the hey? Why not just pick something? She opened the book and picked a page at random, landing on a Thai dish.
"Pad... prik? Had you ever tried that? I think it looks like fun to make! Mostly just cutting up veggies and making a sauce... then cooking it all together."
Yeah, a stir fry wasn't the easiest thing she could have picked. Not with how much prep work was required.

Tetsuko was somewhat relieved to hear her underclassman had some healthy views when it came to balancing studies and more casual pursuits. It wasn't uncommon for newcomers to be somewhat overindulgent in their training, treating it like they were some kind of anime character and that they could just train as hard as possible to find results. Tetsuko herself had suffered from overwork on a few occasions. Most grew out of it, and adopted healthier balances, some less so. However, with Misa, she had a very healthy and positive view that Tetsuko greatly enjoyed.
"Well, like you said, it' good for offsetting all the pressure and stress... In that sense, as Head of the DC and the #1 Student, I can't imagine how quickly I'd snap without some kind of hobby." Tetsuko huffed jokingly. Her position within the school was, if she was being perfectly honest, more of a source of stress than a source of pride, after all. Nevertheless, she took it as a sign of the responsibilities entrusted to her, and if she was to live up to them, needed to not break from overwork.
"Even for those of us who enjoy working our hardest, we need something to pull us out of it every now and then." Tetsuko added, affirming Misa's ideas about the importance of having a hobby in the Hero Academy. It was, in Tetsu's view, almost vital.
Though, speaking of pressure, Tetsuko was feeling some on herself when Misa put her faith in the Shindou girl, even assuring that failure was impossible! "Well, I wouldn't go that far, but I can certainly do my best to guide you properly."
Misa took a look through the cookbook, seeing what dishes were available, before settling on a Thai stir fry that looked like it was actually a very good pick for a beginner.
"I can't say I've had it before, but a stir fry is a good beginner choice. There's a fair bit of prep, but it doesn't get too technical. Though, it might be best to just use some prepackaged curry paste, rather than make our own." The Shindou girl asserted, before looking over to the various cupboards and the like full of ingredients. "Let me know what we need, and I can show you where the ingredients are. Ah, but we'll definitely need a wok, which will be right..." Tetsuko opened up one of the cupboards, full of various metalware, and retrieved a well-maintained wok from within. "Here!"
