APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY
Appearance:
Ray's hair is often a little messy, mostly from waking up late. His eyes have a way of capturing all that's around him when they aren't a little droopy from waking up from a nap. He predominately wears a black dress shirt, that he leaves the top two buttons undone and he rarely tucks it in. Over the shirt, he wears a slate or lead-colored jacket that matches his pants. He has an athletic build from the time he spent training in his youth. While he was growing up he received a tattoo of a serpent that goes across his back toward his right shoulder blade. Its the symbol of the leviathan. He typically keeps it well concealed to avoid and probing questions. Despite his proper dress he prefers to wear black athletic shoes, for comfort and preparation.

Personality:
Bullied while he was young, primarily for having a quirk, Ray adapted a level of street smarts and a protective personality to those around him. Having to stay on his toes a lot he acquired a knack for being able to understand people's motives and what they are going through but that usually equates to more work on his part though. Dealing with thugs and bullies, and also wanting to avoid messy combat, he became adept at thinking of crafty ways out of a situation and making tactical retreats. He'll even do that to draw attention away from innocents. Some consider his tactics to be dishonorable because as long as he lives and people are safe, he'll employ whatever trickier or deeds are needed. What people think doesn't tend to bother him as he is shameless in his actions which, unfortunately, bleeds over into his social interactions.
He was trained from a young age, and because of that, he is making up for some lost time and just likes to take things easy. He is fairly easy-going and stays calm because letting emotions get away with you can lead to defeat and most of the time it's too much effort. Raised by a kung-fu teacher, he learned a lot about patience and being peaceful. While he understands violence and combat are sometimes necessary, he does his best to avoid it. This is one of the reasons he chose the rescue faction instead of going out to face villains head-on, but would gladly support his allies in that cause and stand up to them if lives were threatened. He is passionate about self-improvement, even if he hides it behind an image of laziness. He knows that the better he is with his quirk the more he can protect people. In contrast, he also worries that if people know what all he could do, he would never get a moments peace.
Even so, he doesn't like doing things he doesn't feel are improving him, and will sneak away from manual labor and rigid authoritative approaches. He'd rather just be out taking a nap. His avoidance to work and things he doesn't think are beneficial, shows a bit of how stubborn he can be. He loves to explore, especially if it gets him away from having to work.
Because of the regenerative abilities of his quirk, he often finds himself taking a beating for others and being clumsy in mundane situations as he tends to worry less about bumping into something or getting hit by something. but the pain always serves as a reminder he needs to pay more attention, when not working.

HISTORY
Ray was born and raised in Canada. His mother was Canadian and his father was Chinese. His mother was a detective that patrolled the streets. She had on occasion dealt with quirk based crime and hide the fact that she also had a quirk and could manipulate water. She did so in her way to protect Ray and the family, but she stood on the side of quirk users. Some considered her too friendly with quirk users and this trickled down to Ray being picked on which was later amplified by his disregard in hiding his quirk. His mother continued to hide hers, but Ray never found out why.
His father is Chinese, and trained in the art of Shaolin. He teaches classes but many people don't find it useful in a world full of quirks. Ray knows the basics but invested more time in practicing with his quirk. His father did make time to teach him the philosophy of martial arts, peace, non-violence, and meditation. Something Ray hated and ignored in the beginning but came to appreciate. Something that came in handy as Ray was prone to getting into scuffles while trying to help people. He spent his days training between the two of them and sneaking out to have a life until he became 13 when he spent more time sneaking out with friends than in training.
At 14 his parents enrolled him into the Canadian Hero Academy. A way for him to improve on his own quirk and put it to good use. he remained fairly apathetic about the education process and slack on some of the other studies. During his first year, he earned less than stellar marks but his personality changed slightly towards the middle of the year. Ray was running the town with his friends when a building was on fire. He could hear the people calling out inside. He paused for a moment with the flames reflecting in his brown eyes. The flames began to look like they danced on two round lakes, as Ray's eyes turned blue like the sea. He ran toward the building, leaving the firemen behind himself. The fire rushed out and he threw his hands forward to send water flooding into the doorway and forming a barrier. He made his way through, with sweat pouring down his face from using his quirk. finally, he found the people and tried to usher them to safety, but the heat was too fierce. The flames broke through the barrier raged towards him and the family. Ray closed his eyes but all that washed over him was a cooling splash of water. His mother appeared and was using her quirk.
"I suppose better late than never," was all she said as she helped the family out and the police force became aware of her powers. Not long after that, the decision was made to transfer Ray to the Yuuei academy in Japan. They never mentioned why but Ray assumed it was to keep things safe and deal with the readjustment of his mother's quirk coming to light.
So Ray boarded the plane and set out for the beginning of the year at True Path. As soon as he arrived he was caught up in customs and took the wrong train. His little side adventure cost him precious time and he arrived late for the start of the school year, but he was there and ready.
