APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY
Appearance:
While it's more subtle than many of her quirk category, Michi is a girl whose outward appearance is affected by her quirk; her hair and her eyes could easily be excused by mere genetics, but her skin, if looked closely enough is tainted with a very slight grayness, and is otherwise pale. Beyond that, she has a general 'heavy' sort of air about her, her hair is never really very perky and it's almost like plants droop around her. When alone, she prefers simple clothing, not putting much effort in her appearance beyond what is necessary, and usually wearing something along the lines of sweatpants and sweatshirts.
In public - meaning whenever she is around company - she puts as much effort as a good Japanese girl would; her UA uniform in particular is always clean, pressed, and free of lint. Slightly less care is taken to her other clothing, but even so, an effort to keep a groomed appearance is made, though even then, it's more to keep proper than to look good specifically.
Under the clothes, though, she's very average in weight (in appearance at least) despite her eating habits, and her skin, very pale with tinges of gray, looks almost sickly, to say nothing of the severe bags under her eyes that makes her look like she hasn't slept in several years. Despite looking rather frail and sickly, though, her musculature is well-developed, and with her skinniness, is very noticeable as well.
POSITIVE
✔ Self-reliant, studious, hard-working, calm
NEGATIVE
✖ Apathetic, lethargic, monotone, self-depreciating
LIKES
✔ Chankonabe, stone gardens, canned coffee, sumo wrestling, heroes
DISLIKES
✖ Sleeping, loudness, crowds, baths/pools
Personality:
"Never be angry; that is when you lose control. Never be sad; that is when people ask what is wrong. Never be happy; that is when things break. Never be a burden."
Self-reliance, self-sustainment, hard work and studiousness; Michi lives by a code that is quite like the overarching cultural ideals of Japan; she keeps herself well-groomed, works hard, and studies very hard, with other interests and needs secondary. She goes farther, however; Michi hides her true feelings, she keeps herself locked in an emotional cage, keeping herself distant from anyone and everyone, physically and emotionally, putting up a wall of total apathy around her, not letting herself get distracted by things like friendship.
She does this with the ultimate goal of detaching herself from her family, her non-existant friends, and, if the need arose, even society itself. This has been her goal for years, for nearly as long as she can remember; more than anything else, she does not want to be a burden to anyone, physically, emotionally, financially, or otherwise, a mentality she developed from her parents emotional distance. She hopes to figure out a way to make her weight leave as few ripples as possible.
However, even if she denies it - claiming that her enrollment in UA is more for academics than heroics - she does have hope in her heart, and her hobbies. She is a very big fan of sumo wrestling and culture, and particularly likes the art of dry landscaping. However, the new hero program is giving her hope especially, an idea that is challenging everything that she has lived for up to this point; she has noticed the political climate of late, and she has seen the attempt at creating heroes for people to look up to. If she can become a hero and prove that she isn't a burden, then logically, that means that most other quirkers cannot be burdens.

HISTORY
From birth, Michi Yamazaki has known loneliness. Her quirk, like many in the mutation class, developed in the womb, and while she was not always the absolutely tremendous weight she is today, even in the womb her weight was more than enough to complicate her mother's pregnancy, and the eventual birth, to the point where seriously complications occured and surgery was necessary. While both mother and child lived through it, her mother, Chinatsu, was left traumatized both physically and emotionally.
Her father, Kenzou, due to the trauma and mental help needed for his wife, took care of Michi alone for portion of her life. Adding onto the stress of the troubles with his wife, he was unprepared to deal with a child that was several hundred pounds. She was always kept at an emotional distance, the few times that she got strong emotional reactions from him were when she broke something, whether it was a dish or, in one case, the wall. The yelling she got that day awoke something in her; when she was younger than she needed to be, she became aware of herself, and the effect that she had on both her father and her mother. She looked around her, and came to a realization: she was a burden, one that shouldn't be placed on anyone.
This sparked a change in her; she became more withdrawn, quiet, sullen, brought her activity to a minimum, and focused more on hard work and studies than playing around. She immediately noticed the change in her father's demeanor, too; he became more relaxed, yelled at her less, and even her mother started to improve at the time. While her parents recovered, she became even more withdrawn, glad that her parents were improving... but also saddened that it was all because of her.
Her fear of becoming a burden solidied more when she was eight years old. A vacation in America, taken to help improve her mother's growing health, took a very dark turn when they visited a pool. Michi let her attention to herself lapse, opting for just a little bit of fun, running around the pool. She slipped, falling into the water with a splash that caught more than enough attention, sinking to the absolute bottom of the pool and trapped there. One lifeguard tried, but Michi had to watch him barely able to lift her arm. Just when she was starting to black out, she could see someone MASSIVE dive in and grab her just before she blacked out. When she came to, even when she was coughing up water, she could hear something about a hero and a horn, but couldn't get more information before she noticed her parents looking at her. She could tell they were worried, but she wasn't sure how worried.
Even to this day, she has mixed feelings about her rescue, but even so, life since then felt a little brighter, a tiny little spark inside of her that felt like she was worth something. She looked into this 'hero' business even as she returned home. She was surprised at the concept of people helping people just to help, though she wasn't sure what to do with this information, spending years mulling on it.
When she was much older, only 12, she, performing a delivery in one of her first attempts at employment, found herself in a heya, a communal stablehouse for sumo, high and low ranks. After performing the delivery, she found herself fascinated by two junior wrestlers training. The way they fought fascinated her in particular; they utilized their own massive weight in an attempt to push the other out. For the first time in her life, she felt like she was relating to someone.
One of the senior members suddenly called to her, and in a mystifying decision, made her fight one of the other trainees, a decision that she could only guess was an attempt to humilate the trainee. She was reluctant, but she walked into the ring for a very short round, the result shocking everyone except her. She was sure that people would be furious with her, but the highest ranking sumo that was spectating was more amused than anything.
That event started a friendship, or as much as one as Michi allowed herself to have. He was always amused by the event, and even more when she explained it was just due to her quirk. He showed some of the ways of the sumo - not all, as she could not join for multiple reasons - but provided an introductory explaination of the wrestling art, showing her a few moves, and even helped her fine tune her careful nature from her weight, and even pointed her to a restuarant owned by a retired rikishi, where she continues to get chankonabe from to this day. She was treated as an honored guest, since he was one of the higher ranking rikishi. Through him, Michi actually started to feel appreciated, cared for... and, in a rare moment of panic, she cut that relationship, not returning to the heya since she started to feel like that.
Another year, and there was big news in Japan; the implementation of the Hero Program, and with it, the formation of the UA High School. Once again, Michi was fascinated, reminded of the person that once saved her life. She did not think to apply, though; between the quirkist movement, her responsibilities with her jobs, and other factors, she continued on with her life. It took two years, but her parents announced that they had made arrangements for her to join UA.
Michi wasn't sure whether or not they were just trying to get rid of her, but even if they were, she understood. And besides, she couldn't help but have a thought, partially inspired by the person that saved her life: what if she could somehow not be a burden? What if she could help instead? If she could prove that she wasn't a burden, then wouldn't that mean that other quirkers weren't burdens? No one was a bigger burden than her after all....
