With the establishment of the government's hero program, there existed a naive portion of society that hoped the side of law and justice had achieved a critical landmark that villains couldn't achieve. That milestone was the establishment of government infrastructure, designed to organize and deploy heroes all over Japan. Where villains were disorderly and chaotic, heroes were methodical and responsive. That naive portion of humanity chose to believe that villains would be unable to organize and thrive in such a society.
That turned out to be a foolish hope, not only due to the formation of quirk-based organized crime, but also, due to the many shadow brokers and underground opportunists seeking to hire talented quirkers. Villains had their own means of adapting and had proven resilient in these times. While government-branded villains like Ndeye sought opportunities to use their talents outside the law, folks like Narcissa sought them out and provided the gray or dark areas where they could utilize their skills for the kind of money that honest work rarely makes.
Whereas working for Wang Ba had meant setting up an ambush under the guise of bodyguard work, this job under Narcissa meant more classical bodyguarding. The tough part about being an information broker: you have good information to offer for a fair price, but when dealing with criminal elements, you may expect criminal means to be employed. With certain clients, it was only natural that Narcissa would face clients who thought the most effective way to pay for information was to dispose of the broker who'd given it to them, after the fact.
Ndeye knew, because she had contemplated the same. However, a broker as talented as Narcissa was a connection worth keeping and nurturing to fruition. For that purpose, Ndeye was doubly advantaged by this latest arrangement: by keeping an eye on Narcissa's dangerous clients, she would be paid as requisite her work, but also, could continue to get information on jobs and even the odd bit of useful hero news.
The arrangement was sweet, but there was very little that could put Ndeye in a good mood, short of victory in combat. As such, she led the way through a half abandoned village, known as a dwelling for the disadvantaged and the drug-addicted alike. All sorts of illegal businesses ran through here, though they tended to pick up stragglers and move on, rather than hanging about. Inside the decrepit buildings, the sunken faces of the hopeless and abandoned occasionally appeared, before vanishing into the darkness. Who could Narcissa meet of any worth around this den of poverty?
One of those taking advantage, of course. A certain businessman had come here with men who could not be called such, a small troop of hired thugs, who would be doing the real work of debt collecting and brutalizing victims. According to him, he wanted information on the status of some of the larger debts he planned to collect on... the kind of people who lived in town, rather than out here in the muck. Debt collecting was a nasty business, but... "That's not all they will do," Ndeye told Narcissa, though she was certain that her boss knew. "They will want to collect a debt from you, one which you do not owe them. Being you are thin and pretty, they may want to collect debts even beyond your money. If my presence does not deter them... they are fools and they are dead men."
It became clear that the two were getting closer to their target as moans of tormented debtors began to creep from the modest dwellings surrounding them. The sound of someone being beaten with some kind of billy club or baton was evident, but Ndeye simply ignored it, pushing back a curtain to lead into a low-roofed stone dwelling. She stepped aside to allow Narcissa in. Her serious face: a stern, dark brow over severe, smoldering amber eyes, told Narcissa that she needed to give no gesture to tell Ndeye it was time for action. If anything, Narcissa only needed to worry about Ndeye attacking the other men first. She seemed to have a bit of a hair trigger.
Inside, a bald man with a long, round-tipped chin and squinted eyes, was wearing a smile that looked far too genial for his field of work. He was dressed in a dark, black suit, much like Ndeye's, but much more narrow. By himself, he didn't look especially dangerous, unless he was hiding some kind of quirk. Two other men were inside the room, one shamelessly looting from a lockbox atop a dresser, while the other squatted in front of a television, so broken and abused that half the screen was blackened out. Those two wore full black clothing, obscuring their identities, with balaclava masks over their faces like robbers. Neither was carrying a gun, but both clearly had knives on their hips.
Ndeye would close shut the curtain, which acted in place of a door, doing nothing to keep out the dust and insects. Whoever was... or had been... the owner of this home probably wasn't missing much from the looting of the house's new occupants. Ndeye would remain by the door unless motioned forward by Narcissa, or unless the time came to jump in herself. For now, her arms were just muscular, dark flesh, but the glint of gold and black scales dotting across the biceps showed she was ready to armor up at any time.

She had met Ndeye in a specific situation and she had learned about her and well a information bringer, a spider in a long web could better use someone that would be okay with protecting that little spider that was so easily squished. Now, she wasn't that much in a bad state anymore as the six months ago when she recently arrived in Japan and had come into the hands of the villains and work with them. She had played difficult cards and still was on the tip of her toes with everything she did. The card game was a difficult one but she had decided she was working on it and becoming better. She had to work on her poker face or more likely her poker voice but at least she had managed in the recent past pursuade Ndeye to work with her as her bodyguard and gain money with it at as well as information about others that she wanted to know. After all, she was with her a lot on jobs like this.
With her black and red heel she stepped forward after her partner had moved the disgusting curtain away and she gave her a short smile, that is to say the corner of her mouth curled up shortly when she met Ndeye's eyes but turned down as she turned away. Her client was waiting, he was fancy dressed, like she herself, though she had taken Sunaho's advice of not wearing skirts at adventures like this. She did wear heels, but they were black, she would kick them off when necessary and continue on the short white socks that she wore in them. Like a little school girl. The rest of her outfit was closer to her skin colour, a beige brown pants and a white blouse. No, she had to train to become better in many categories. She could maybe ask Ndeye later for a training or so, some advice now that she had seen what kind of people she worked with. However, Ndeye was a reliable partner enough. She took the hair pin and put it back in her long brown hair and leaned a little on the disgusting desk in front of her. "Well here I am." She said rather arrogant, considering he had wanted her to come to her and this shit place was definitely the lowest of low. Meaning she knew exactly what kind of person she was dealing with. Wang Ba was far away from Tokyo but his establishment had the luxury that she expected villains to carry.
The man almost coughed over her and a shiver went down her spine and they talked about the deal. The information he had asked and he wanted in return. She clicked her tongue impatiently, she wasn't going to be behaving better because they thought they could snap her spine in a matter of seconds. She might be weak but she wasn't that stupid either. The man laughed at her and leaned forward, asking her for the information and her eyes quickly glided over the people on his side. "Is it necessary to guard yourself against me?" She wanted to point out that she wasn't blind, she wasn't sure if that was smart though.
But she sighed as no response came, "The man is in Musutafu, on the edges towards Yokohama and Tokyo." It was a difficult spot to explain, "But he expects you and there is a trap in the works." Would she sell what kind of trap? Ah yea, she would but that meant that he would have to be very careful because he didn't ask for the details, he had actually pushed her away before when she wanted to make work of the deal, which was another reason to why she had brought Ndeye.

Unlike Narcissa, Ndeye hadn't worn her suit; when she anticipated using her arms, and moreover, needed to threaten to use them, there was no point in messing up a good suit to do that. Instead, she was dressed in black clothing, tight over her chest and long pants, along with footwraps rather than shoes. She hadn't bothered to cover her face; there were no cops or heroes out this way to interfere with her. Besides, doing so was almost ridiculous in the first place, given her muscular frame and tendency to act out in the eyes of the law... it didn't take looking at her face to recognize her as the criminal Calibar.
From what Ndeye could hear, it seemed like the negotiations were going about how she expected them to. She'd worked with Narcissa enough to know that this kind of client was beneath her- and this kind of setting way way beneath her. There was no way that eerie, over-dressed guy and his slaver buddies were going to mesh with Narcissa on a personal level. Still, information and business opportunities were what they were; Ndeye understood better than anyone that your sources weren't likely to be your friends.
The inside of the house was pretty gross, but the outside was an equal horror show. The people on the inside were certainly criminals, but the ones on the outside were just waiting for an opportunity themselves. All kinds of folks, mired in gross poverty, had seen Narcissa and wanted to think of her as a mark, even though Ndeye was with her. She gave a glare to a withered old man who was gradually making his way across the alley, pretending to put up flyers. As the man vanished back into the shadows, she returned to listening inside.
"Oooh, very good! The fact that you've tipped me off shows you are reliable!" the bald man grinned, rubbing his hands together obsequiously. "Ho ho ho... Of course, my men will handle it. There's no need for me to get anywhere near this trap. Ho ho ho ho..." This was the part where he should perform the equal exchange of information...
... Instead, the man pulled out his smartphone and began seemingly browsing the contacts. "Ma'am, please stick around for just a moment longer! I'm putting various plans into motion now. This information is just so critical, I can't sit on it, you understand? You understand!" he continued, holding up one finger to tell her to wait, then pressing the phone to his ear. "Mmmm... Mmmhmmm... Yeees..." he continued on and on, seeming to be taking his sweet time relaying the information.
In the mean time, the men in the room began to circle, not towards a new place to search, nor toward their boss... instead, they moved toward the door, as if taking up position on either side of the curtain, backs towards Ndeye. It was hard to tell what their plan was.
On the other side of the curtain, Ndeye was no longer standing respectfully. Her arms were armored up and outstretched in a wrestling pose, as though she was prepare to start grappling. She'd seen their shadows shifting on the floor and managed to put together that this must be part of some strategy... at this point, all Narcissa would have to do was say one strange word and Ndeye would reach through the thin, rickety walls of that building, smashing them easily and wrapping a hand around each man's throat. Part of her was begging for that word... there was one way to make sure that bald man gave honest information. She was ready to ensure that it happened... but only if Narcissa shared her same sense for how this business ought to conclude.

She had been careful, she knew not exactly all the people in Japan but this man had reminded her of Wang Ba. But where Wang Ba had manners and was interested in testing her, this person was anything but. She heaved her head and told him the information as if it was nothing, but he had said he had interesting information for her, that's how she worked. Money was useless if you already had it, if he would still not give it to her, she would take money though and probably give it to Ndeye, but who cares for now. It was his attitude that pissed her off and she took a deep but soft breath. She would give him the information he had asked for, after all, he had not set the proper deal and that was another thing she learned from the rich Wang Ba. Don't give all your wears if the questions weren't asked. That was how this world worked and Narcissa quickly had learned to play with that.
The trap was perfect for a swine like this but she did not say anything. She watched him cautiously and see what he would do. She felt the cold blade of the knife push against her ribcage, of course, Ndeye was the strongest asset she had, but she shouldn't be defenseless herself. But she wasn't a fighter that much it was still wasn't something she could consider, not after that. She would get over it but that were plans for later. She wanted to get out of this place as fast as she could, she had leaned on the desk before and ugh that was disgusting so she had stood up again but the man apparently didn't plan to talk about the payment. She gritted her teeth when he called her reliable, obviously she was, the rumours of the Daffodil were out there, she wasn't stupid. But this was maybe a source she could lose, after all, they should also learn no one was going to make fun of her. It was itching to send Ndeye to do the job, but not yet, maybe he was reliable as well. His men would handle this? Hm, that was exactly what idiots like him would say, she gave a nod. Now-
Her eyes turned into slits as he simply pulled out his phone to make a phone call, no. No one was going to disrespect her. She stared at him, to see if he was literally going to do this. She went to sit on the desk, she had noticed the rotation to the door, and took the phone out of the fat man's hands when she was done with this display and clicked on the red horn. "Let's put things in perspective. You don't waste the time of an informant, and especially not mine. So give me my part of the bargain or there will be worse things happening." It was kind of obvious that they planned to take her information and not pay her and that they underestimated Ndeye.
So the man stared at her, because the look in her eyes was anything but beautiful and her lips spoke the codeword that Ndeye was waiting for. "Just hold them down, we have a deal to finish." And else, there was no one to fall for the trap. She would know how to make that work though, this was the trap after all. Not only was the things he wanted protected by a trap but there was a bounty out for this man and again the money wasn't for Narcissa but she could get allies out of that. Ndeye would only have to be ready for the dirty work.

The previously aloof man wore a disapproving frown as Narcissa took his phone, seeming to be focusing on his men more than her, as if to say, "why would you allow her to be in position to do that?" His intention not to pay her, or even to think about her past what her men did with her, was obvious in his every procrastinating, dismissive action. If he knew that she was pocketing a blade (or that Ndeye was listening), he probably would have been more cautious, but he was one of those types that thought if you got to a certain position in the criminal underworld, you ought to be untouchable. Egotistic villains seemed to make that mistake all the time these days.
He wasn't listening to anything she was saying. He even failed to notice a certain codeword.
Two ridiculously thick arms, glittering with a dense layer of snake-like scales and ending in club-like fists, shot through the weak walls on either side of the curtained door like whips, raising a cloud of wood and plaster. More importantly, the swiped into the necks of the bodyguards that Narcissa's rude clients had brought along, hitting each across the head with force beyond what a human's clothesline maneuver ought to be able to provide. Their feet briefly left the floor as their bodies smacked into each other and then collapsed into a pile, possibly unconscious, possibly dead. Ndeye didn't care either way; she stepped over the two of them and entered the room with a frown that said she wished the guy would have brought more men for her to take care of.
Narcissa told her to hold them down, which made sense; after all, they could still be threatening if one reached for a gun. In fact, Ndeye probably should have waited for some instructions before she came in swinging. Still, she assumed that it was no harm, no foul... for a certain extent of no harm. She crouched and placed a hand on the back of each man's neck; the moment she felt some kind of suspicious twitch, she'd be ready to bury the offender's face further into the floor.
The bald criminal fell backwards onto his butt, now uncaring for his phone, but instead worried for his life. "... Th-The agreed upon amount, then?" he asked, adjusting his spectacles and reaching for his coat pocket.
"If there is a gun in that coat pocket, you will lose that hand." After imparting the warning, Ndeye broke off a small portion of scales from one shoulder and clutched them in one fist, preparing to throw them.
"... N-No gun," the man gulped, pulling out a checkbook instead. "The agreed upon amount... yes?" He turned his eyes to Narcissa now, no longer denying her the attention she'd wanted but still not catching on that the transaction he'd planned on was no longer in the cards.

She remained casually seated at the corner of the desk. The mobile phone still next to her left hip and she stared at the effect Ndeye had over the guards this man had brought upon them. She was highly aware that he could do something to her, but she was sure the intimidation of the snake armed villain in front of them was far too intimidating to even try. So she turned her attention back and gave him the most kind smile she ever possessed, aka it was very sarcastic. She just told Ndeye to hold them down and the like but to be honest, Narcissa couldn't give a rat's ass about those people as long as she got her money. This would at least be money, she did not want money because she had enough, though at this point it was horrible to consider that she had lost out of this job. The only thing Narcissa had won at this point was that she knew how much she could counted on Ndeye, which was a very nice thing to consider. She would have to ask her a little bit about some things here and there after this ridiculous meeting was over.
She watched the idiot fall off his chair onto his ass and she slowly turned to him while leaning over it. Ndeye gave a fair warning, which made the woman smile only more sinister. "I don't think he wants to know how hard and painful your scales can be." She tapped to her cheek when he asked for a second time if the appropriate amount was okay and looked over her shoulder. "What do you think? After all they kept more of our time then necessary. So I would say he has to increase it with at least one third?" Now surely again, she did not care but she wanted to install that amount of fear to people, no one was going to be that stupid when it came to handling Narcissa King or as they knew it Daffodil. "Don't you think?" She turned her attention back to the man on the ground, "If you do it quickly, we will be gone rather soon." She brushed a piece of her caramel coloured hair away and took the cheque when the man was done. "Now don't forget, you know a trap is waiting and also don't forget to never play with important information." She walked past Ndeye, "Do what you feel like."

"Ha. Well, they are that." Ndeye didn't exactly chuckle, but rather, dryly acknowledged that her quirk was the excruciatingly painful type when applied the right way. The bruiser continued to kneel with her hands on either man's neck as she watched Narcissa doing the important work of actually getting something out of this violent exchange... the matter of profiting was a crucial step that she often overlooked in her own criminal activities.
"Easily one-third," Ndeye agreed, thinking to herself that if she'd been alone on this venture, she'd have killed the guy before he had a chance to disclose payment. Of course, she'd also have just swiped everything the guy had on him, but she figured maybe keeping it to some ratio of the original amount was a point of pride for Narcissa. "If that check bounces, it is your funeral, little man. Do not think that our business is over until that check clears..."
"Indubitably, ma'am!" The bald man nodded his shiny head so hard it seemed like it might snap off from his stem-like, thin neck. "You are very generous! I apologize so much for the inconvenience. This is just the sort of inconvenience people in our trade run into all the time, ha ha ha ha! Y-You can't hold it against me, for trying to maximize my profits in this economy!" Despite his annoying excuses, he wrote out the check with the speed of one hoping to preserve his own life, then held it out to Narcissa in one skinny, quivering hand, laden with big-shot jewelry that no longer seemed to fit him. "Thank you so much for the tip, no, not just the tip, the valuable lesson! I'll treasure it!"
As Narcissa moved to leave, Ndeye nodded her head slowly. The woman frowned, raising one shoulder but keeping the other lowered. "Your henchmen have not really paid for their own rudeness yet. You can manage to get out of this slum with just one, right?" The woman's eyes curled up into sadistic crescents as she tightened her grip on the one man's neck. The rock-like scales on her hand grew thicker and her hand clenched harder until she heard a sickening snap beneath her. "A fine lesson for the one that remains." The Senegalese bodyguard brushed both hands off, sending both scales and dust from them, then turned her shoulder to allow her wide frame out of the door.
Once outside, she rejoined Narcissa, curious to see if the girl had watched her take care of what was less business and more her own pleasure as a villain. "An easy target. But a substantial prize." Ndeye nodded, shedding the casings from her arms and allowing them to fall into the dust at either side of herself. Once they were removed, she recrossed the arms at the broad slab of her chest. Does that conclude our business? Or is there any more worry we should devote to that 'trap?' I am certain our man is going to take great pains to avoid it now. With any luck, a weakling like that will simply fall out of his business."

Ndeye was quite pleasant to work with, the obvious cool statement of her scales and how they worked was what worked very well to scare the man even more and she tapped her chin and increased the price of her time-wasting. She just got the generous reward and got up to leave. Glad to hear Ndeye warned the man even more and she eyed him while he nervously tried to talk his way out of Ndeye's grip and writing down the check, she quickly plucked it from his sweaty fingers. "If it doesn't cash out. You can learn about her scales for a very close meeting." She said with a smile and rolling her eyes to the kissing and sucking up to them, the man continued with. She told Ndeye that she could do whatever she wanted as she walked out of the disgusting room and building and would wait downstairs. She wasn't afraid now anything would happen, they already got rid of many of the goons and she could turn invisible if necessary.
However nothing happened to her, she lingered a little before leaving, noticing the sound of the snapping of the neck and she puckered before leaving the room. This was enough for her to see and she would just wait for Ndeye downstairs. She nodded when the Sengalese woman came downstairs where she was counting the check out through an app that the banks now had. "Easy money too." She muttered under her breath. "Oh no, I am sure he will take it. He will also say he survived the great Calabar, just mark my words. Which is exactly why I will make a visit to the place where he intends to steal and sell the information of him coming. Double the money and a dead idiot, it's so much easier that way. But I will just do that in a different way, no need to come along to something so dull. I will call you when I got to the next meeting like this, is that alright?" She smiled at Ndeye and offered her the cash that Narcissa already carried in the inside pocket of her blazer. "This is the number of Yen we discussed and I added a little more for the time-wasting effort, thank you again." With that taken care off and making sure Ndeye was satisfied, Narcissa gave her a sort bow as a thank you, before she left.

Ndeye nodded along with her employer's observations; it seemed Narcissa had a shrewd mind for these sorts of things, allowing her to see a few steps ahead while Ndeye was still stuck thinking about her latest conquest. She tilted her chin up and stared at the gray sky while raising one eyebrow. There was something to be said for someone with such predictive powers... while Ndeye prayed at the altar of physical dominance, she had to admit, Narcissa's attention to detail and proper forethought had made this a much more profitable venture than her average job- and at the cost of much less work.
The bodyguard nodded, keeping her arms crossed but resetting the position of her head to look down at the shorter lady. "Of course. This sort of business is barely a detour. On the other hand, let it be said: if you get a dangerous job, that is all the better for me. I consider the opportunity to handle such situations a significant bonus..." She accepted the money, which, thankfully, came in the form of actual cash rather than a check. Ndeye hadn't said anything at the time when their target had pulled his check-book out, but Ndeye didn't know enough of the banking system in Japan to open a proper checking account, and thus, ended up resorting to some truly outdated methods of squirreling away her cash. A check wouldn't have done her any good.
The cash bonus was just icing on the cake. It was good proof that Narcissa understood the value of her asset here. She thought back to the bald man, who she now realized to be completely doomed. There was a man who'd overestimated himself.
"A man like that should not try to fool himself. The man must have known his limits, but he did not acknowledge them. What a fool. Japan is full of these fools... Fools who think money is a substitute for power. This society is warped and turned on its head..."
Yes...
Ndeye thought to herself that as long as Narcissa employed Calibar, that was proof she recognized what real power was worth. A visionary like that was a person with actual value; an idiot who denies it, like that doomed bastard, is worthless. Narcissa was the kind of person who could survive, even in a world with monsters like Ndeye...
"Hmph... But she should train her muscles more..." Ndeye thought to herself, shaking her thick braids regretfully as she left the slum with her employer.
