It was an event a year in the making. One year ago, almost to the day, Iwasaka Shouko had witnessed an event which would change her life forever. On the very stage she now stood on, 24 students had battled for the title of UA's strongest fighter. Such classic matches as Darren versus Yumi, Tetsuko versus Arthur, Risaka versus Feng... Now that Shouko was in their place, how would she compare to her idols of the year before? What amazing abilities would her opponents show her? And for those she had faced before, how much had they grown in between the two encounters?
Amidst the roaring crowd, the twintailed brunette would wait in the staging area. Her outfit was her usual- A sleeveless robe wrapped around her, becoming both shirt and skirt. However, her opponent and any watching classmates could easily tell that it was not her usual- The robe she wore today was blue, a stark contrast to her usual brown. And yet the white and red highlights told the whole story- She had had this one customized to match her classmate's sports uniforms! Although they were not required to wear them, the girl still felt it was appropriate to represent her school in her clothes.
Across, on the other side, she could see her opponent. Kouta, or as she preferred, Koutoto, was no new opponent to her! The pink-haired boy had been the recipient of her challenge way back at the beginning of the year, when she had learned that he was a student of her idol, Feng-senpai! In the end, that match had ended with both sides pulling their final punch, declaring it a draw... After all, in a light hearted spar, there was no need to truly name a winner! After all, what mattered was to learn! To learn what your opponent could do, to learn your own shortcomings! And with so much time passing since that time... Shouko couldn't wait to see how much Kouta had grown!
However, she herself had not slacked off! Even her quirk, which as always did its own thing, had become denser by a level! And that was besides her martial arts, which had polished to the point of even cornering that very Feng-senpai! While her heart remained that of the battle analyst... It would be wrong to say she wasn't looking forward to proving her own growth in this battle! After all! If she didn't give it her all, how could she expect to see Koutoto's!?
In short, whether she won or lost... Having seen her friend's growth firsthand, she would be satisfied!
In what little time was left for preparation to fight, the energetic girl stretched herself out, showing off her limberness for the crowd. Those who didn't already know, would hardly be able to tell that she was wearing hundreds of kilos of stone beneath her clothes! At the very least, it wouldn't seem to hamper her movements... And even her opponent, would be able to tell that she was even more free than she had been their previous bout. If there was one hint as to the truth- Every once in a while she would be unable to resist hopping back into a neutral impression, and each time, land with a solid thud.
But with her routine complete, Shouko would finally be motioned to take the stage. As she walked up the cement steps, her hand would fall to her robe's sash, pulling it free in the same swift motion as she discarded the garment as a whole. As the two pieces of cloth floated to the ground beside the stage, the costume they had hidden was revealed to the public for the first time.
It would be mostly familiar to Kouta- And most of her other classmates. Clearly made of stone, it comprised of three pieces- Four, if you wanted to be technical, and 6 if you wanted to nitpick. The first, the largest, was the stone dress which hung from her waist to below her knees, growing wider as it fell lower. The second, the band of stone which wrapped around her chest, clearly meant to preserve modesty as much as to protect herself. However, the third and fourth pieces were brand new- Clogs of stone which wrapped about her feet, and really should have been visible before this. But then, who was looking at her feet?
As for the nitpick- Technically, the hair ties which bound her locks into their signature style were also made of stone. But it would be quite the stretch to call them a part of the armor.
As she waited for the referee to announce the fight's beginning, Shouko would wave at her opponent cheerfully. "Nyahaha! Fancy meeting you here, Koutoto! It's been a while, so! Don't you dare hold back 'cuz we're friends, k?" With a broad grin, the girl would settle into position- Fists raised in front of her, legs slightly crouched. A stance so neutral it did not even fall into the four stances of her Yaogun style, and yet, from which she could immediately switch to any of them!

Kouta hadn't been taking the entire thing all too well. Sure, he had made an objective to himself to win the entire thing a long while ago, though that was before he talked to so many of his friends, before he came to understand his own quirk and become friends with that aggressive, furious personality that manifested in his quirk, before he.. understood his own desires. He did not wish to win due to pride and, though he had said it before, he didn't truly wish to win to bring recognition to the support studies. In fact, he didn't want to win.
Well, it's not that he DIDN'T want to win, it's that he knew he didn't need to win. All he wanted to do was make a wonderful display that would stay in the minds of all of the ones who saw it. To do that, he knew that he had to reach at least one of the later rounds, where more people would have their eyes nailed to. For this, he needed strategy, more than just brute force through all enemies he could get. So, obviously, he came to an obvious conclusion: if he wanted to improve his chances to reach far instead of strictly winning, he'd have a better chance if he went through the loser's bracket.
However, going to the loser's bracket was technically him losing one of his two lives in this "game". To that effect, he had drawn up a simple objective that had taken him a bit too much time to think up: He'd do his best in the normal brackets, however, he wouldn't push himself past any limits or put himself in any actual danger until he went to the loser's bracket. After all, he knew that if he gave it his all, and by that he'd mean to go past his limits into the realm of reckless self harm, he would likely not have enough time to recover for the next match, since he figured that it'd all happen in a day.
The first opponent? Shouko. It hurt, mostly because he already had that sinking feeling that he'd lose. He calculated that he'd be at the very least a match on raw power, however, he had much less time that he could allocate for training. She'd be more.. refined. Skilled, really. For that reason, he knew that he'd have to stretch out all raw advantages he had if he wanted a true shot at winning.
"C'mon, Shouko-san.. I don't want to hurt you.~" The now much more confident Kouta winked at her with a snarky giggle, placing himself in a proper power stance, already indicating his aggressive intentions, making sure to try and please the crowd by playing a bit on the theatricals, letting out a deeper growl, making sure that the explosion and subsequent transformation was particularly violent and flashy, having that darkness wrap around as a hectic, tentacle-lashing creature that entirely possessed the boy, releasing a dark, cavernous and shrill scream, pushing his feet out into the ground to crack it, making it look like as if his very presence was that violent. "Come. I'll give you the first strike."

Shouko would laugh out loud at Kouta's comment. Not mockingly or anything, just the exuberant cheerfulness that was her hallmark. "Nyahahahaha! No need to worry about that, Koutoto! Sensei's right there!" The brunette would break her stance to gesture toward the referee. Just like in the many sparring matches that took place in the school, if things actually became dangerous, someone was there to stop them! In fact, it was probably even safer than their last match! After all, at that time, there was only one teacher for all the training rooms... Today, each stage was monitored by it's own judge! And that was before considering the control both of them had showed... They knew when they were making a hit the other couldn't take, and when they were about to take a hit they could not! Which was why, despite their last fight ending in a draw, neither of them had walked away injured. They both knew that the last exchange would have resulted in a KO and pulled their punches.
But there would be no such thing this time. In the first place, how would the brackets end up if they ended up tying again?
"Wehehe, cool as ever, Koutoto!" Shouko would praise as the boy shrouded himself in the darkness of his quirk! Some others might call it scary, monstrous, or even downright evil... But not Shouko! To the rock-laden girl, all quirks were the epitome of coolness, and using them well even moreso! She knew full well that Kouta had blended his quirk into Feng-senpai's high-paced fighting style... She couldn't wait to see what adaptations the boy had made! After all, in her last fight with Feng, so many of the older girl's moves involved using friction to create flames... But that didn't seem like something Koutoto could do!
As one of the few others in the school to have created her own style, Shouko quite idolized Feng and her Dragon's Tempo. It was much easier to adapt an existing style than to fuse concepts and techniques seamlessly into a set! So the dsiciple of Dragon's Tempo... Shouko could hardly wait to see how Kouta had made the art into his own!
With the other offering the first move to her... Shouko smiled brightly. "No way!" Came a response that seemed the opposite of her expression! "I just said not to hold back, Koutotototototototototo!" Judging by the amound of to's after his name, Shouko wasn't happy with his offer! "The first move belongs to the person who can take it!" If she got the first move in... It was because she earned it, not because it was given to her! "Anything else is an insult to the spirit of battle!"
It should be noted here that Shouko has an odd set of rules for battles. Not the least of which, was that nobody was supposed to get her! From that alone, it can be understand that her so called universal laws... Are anything but. Realistically, if someone was giving you a free hit, you should take it! And so, was it Kouta being unnecessarily honorable by offering the first move, or was it Shouko who refused it?
In any case, even if she refused a free first move... Shouko wasn't about to give up the battle for initiative! As soon as her words had sunk in, the girl would move, the stone shoes on her feet hardly more restrictive than her outfit was without them! With surprising speed- Not only for how laden she was, but for how she had even improved since their last match- The girl would dart forward in her lightest stance! However, even compared to the speed Kouta showed last time, she knew she was a step below, and would he have stopped growing just because she had trained?
However, even though she lost in speed... Had she ever let that bother her before? As she closed in, her steps would tighten. She gave a generous estimate of Kouta's distance of engagement, his maai, as she had taught him in their last bout. The distance from which he could launch an attack. Considering the excitement on her face, the caution was incongruous... Nor would it last long! As much as she wanted to skirt the edges of his range to learn as much as she could... Such a fight would be boring for the audience!
And so her lithe body would drop, lowering to reduce the area her opponent could target as she dashed in. Her first attack, should she reach close enough to launch it, would be simple- An unadorned punch, obviously meant to see how Kouta's defensive ability had improved since their last bout!

The more she said Koutoto, the harder it was to actually hold back on his laughter. He was supposed to look cool right now, which made Shouko's upbeat, bubbly and excited personality make it painfully difficult juts to hold it in. Still, Kouta managed, hissing quietly to himself to stay calm and not move at all and let Shouko approach, even if she was against him letting her get the first strike - though he very much wanted it to happen.
Not out of chivalry, but actual strategy. By this point, he had learned to actually cover his actual face with his cape too, so that he could have that protected in case he got punched. And since he could protect his entire body, he wished to assess the power boost that Shouko surely had acquired, wondering if he could overwhelm her in raw power like he hoped. Since, as he was already aware and had thought about it, he was surely way less skilled in combat than Shouko, since he didn't spend that much time practicing martial arts, which meant he'd have to overpower her.
"Do you think that I'm holding back?" Kouta asked with a little smirk, standing entirely still even as she approached, all too aware of her incredible impatience towards combat. Also the fact that she had a love for the flashy, which made her come directly at him, with a simple, non-comitting punch. In her light form no less, which meant that she was going for the aggressive. Kouta was pleased with this. Since, as her fist connected with him, his body budged a bit, though he remained mostly in place, the pressure he put out with his power only increasing as he "realized" that he could indeed overpower her in raw physical prowess, if this was even close to the strongest she could pull off.
Now, even if her stance was low, Kouta shot out his right arm towards her, letting the cape manifest itself as a much bigger hand, harshly reaching for his enemy. Hopefully with a tight grip on her, the boy didn't say as much as a word, choosing to laugh excitedly, letting his quirk's influence give him that spark, that enjoyment for a friendly battle that his typical self would be reserved about, attempting a harsh throw towards the edge of the arena, directly ahead of him, an action not to take her out way too early, but to test out her defensive abilities.
Could she stop her own crash course towards defeat?
[Kouta takes the simple punch with no damage, just to attempt a big-hand-grab and throw towards the edge of the arena to see if she can stop herself.]

"Heh, there's only one way to find out!" would be Shouko's response to the taunt. Of course, she hardly expected him to! Who would, on this most fantastic sports festival stage? Certainly not her! Although her lightest stance had the least force of them all, she was pleasantly surprised by how ineffective her attack was... Koutoto had always been stronger than her, at least with his quirk active! And it seemed he hadn't fallen far behind at all! A bubbly grin surfaced as she- as expected- faced his follow up move! The shadowed hand swiftly wrapped around the girl... Despite expecting it, had she failed to respond? Was it simply too fast for her, or was it a part of her plan?
But as the heavy girl was flung away, it grew increasingly clear that it was the former. The difference in speed wasn't so easily overcome... She thought as she sailed through the air. But she was never concerned by this fact- The edge of the stage was simply a long ways away, and if there was one thing she was proud of... It was her balance! The stone dress and boots weighing her lower body down, it was almost inevitable that Shouko landed on her feet, sliding a distance before coming to a stop.
"Nyahaha, as I thought! You've grown a lot, Koutotototo!" To Shouko, the only difference between the stage and the sparring room... Was that on stage, her opponent had no reason to hide anything! A mirthful laugh filled the air, hardly bothered by the complete defeat in the first exchange... She may have lost the battle, but Koutoto still had more to draw out! And if she wanted to see every last drop the support student had... She would have to draw out every last drop that she had!
Which was why! She didn't return on the attack! It was a simple fact that Kouta's defenses were stronger than her attacks... Even if he didn't put up a guard, it seemed like he hadn't taken damage! She needed something stronger than her lightest strength if she was to break through his dark armor... But with how slow her more powerful stances were, there simply wouldn't be an opening. Which was why... The second stance! Two could play the counterattack game!
With her legs bowed and her body low, Shouko's second stance had the lowest center of gravity of the four- Making her a nigh immoveable object. Yet unlike her third stance, which was almost as low, it retained a full freedom of movement, perfect for responding to an incoming foe!

Shouko had weighed herself down naturally, due to the fact that she was, no matter how quick or light she could get, wearing a dress made out of rocks. It showed him that she was no slouch and that the punch she gave him was nothing more than a simple test, something that he'd made sure to reciprocate in full. Holding his quirk active without actually fighting with it didn't waste a meaningful amount of energy, however, there was likely a time limit. ..Was there a time limit? He actually may have forgotten. Screw it. He still had to make it quick. To do or die!! Except not die! This was a safe place where he shouldn't die!
"And you're still persistent!" The confident "Dark" Kouta laughed excitedly, letting out his inner confidence and passion for a good, healthy fight come out with the help of his quirk, his legs finally moving, and moving way faster than before. This was no longer just him going "quick", this was him going faster than a lot of cars -- not including highways --, from no speed at all, clearing the distance between them in just split moments. If she was using a low stance for counters, then he'd overcome that gap in skill, overload her ability to make up the difference by just being BRUTAL!
And while it might not be as graceful as Feng, it was the way he developed his style, the Wyvern's style: a furious, mobile style, one that intended in pinning and finishing off the adversary in moments. Kouta was right in front of her in no time and, with the cape around his arm "inflating", making his arm look much bigger than what it really was, he shot it out at high speeds towards Shouko, trying to nullify her low stance by getting the entire area she stood on in the danger zone, as well as a simultaneous attempt at surpassing her counter by making that attack so grievously powerful that she couldn't just simply counter it.
Powerful enough for it to release a shockwave that would crack the very ground below his arm.

In contrast, making it quick was the last thing on Shouko's mind. Not because of any perceived time limit or stamina advantage- But because where was the fun if things ended so soon? She still hadn't seen enough! Hadn't felt enough! Hadn't experienced enough! A wide smile would cross her face at the other's confident declaration... Persistent? It was the kind of declaration a villain would make to the hero, thinking he should be squashing them like a bug! She couldn't help but chuckle at the thought... Kouta, a villain? Who could have ever imagined?
But no matter what strange paths her brain went down, she would not underestimate this pink-haired boy cloaked in darkness. While his quirk lent him a sort of overconfidence that was his greatest downfall, he did have enough strength to back it up for the most part... It was just! As always! He had the strength, but his finesse was lacking! He moved as fast as a car down the highway, but... As long as it was in a straight line, how could Shouko not react in time?
But even as she made her moved, she observed with a smile- "En, that's right, Koutoto! There's no point in wasting energy on thinking! You have the strength, you have the speed, so move like it!" She called back to their previous fight- A tie, but only becauise Kouta had insisted on focusing on his 'plan' instead of simply using his strength to its limit. He had wasted time and energy shattering her stone dress, but with little to no harm dealt to the girl herself, when he finally went in for a finisher... She was able to match him blow for blow!
Speaking of shattering... Her stone dress may have become harder than last time, but it would still hardly stand up to the massive blows Kouta was capable of unleashing! One or two may be fine, but any more, and the armor would crumble to pieces, leaving her defenseless... Right? But at the same time... No risk, no reward! Only on the verge of defeat could true victory be obtained! Which was why, as his full force reached towards her slim body, the girl's hands would move firmly and purposefully. Size? Size was of no object! The stability of her stance transmitted through her arms as she pressed them into the oncoming force- Not to stop it, but to shift it. A force so gentle that Kouta may not even realize how effective it was.
The massive black hand would be forced downwards- Not significantly, just ever so slightly. Enough to ruin the absolute territory it had created, open the room for a counterattack that her opponent had been assured would not come- The girl's body lifting from the ground under her own strength. Kouta's attack collided not with her upper body, but with the skirt which hung below, cracking through the bell of the dress. While it would not break off the entire front of the piece, it cleanly broke through the hem, revealing even more of her pale legs. What's more, the carefully maintained balance of the piece would be changed by the lost weight.
But Shouko had fought in this outfit many times, and adjusting to its changes was well within her grasp. Sliding down the engorged cape, Shouko's counterattack would come- Flowing with the force of the blow she had partially taken, her entire body would flip, heels over head. With her hands grasping the top of Kouta's cape, her stone shoes would descend in an axe-kick to the other boy's head. Even if his armor was more thorough than ever before, the weight of her blows was not a force which could be ignored!

The lack of finesse and reckless brutality was the greatest trait of Kouta's, after all, it took someone that was specifically prepared for that type of fighting to beat his overwhelming strikes: since no normal "elbow block" or whatever those second rate martial artists would try to use when blocking an attack like his. Instead, he'd just overwhelm them at full force and win! Shouko.. knew this. She knew how to deal with this. So, instead of just taking that giant brutal swing head on, Shouko redirected his attack, in a subtle way that he only noticed when he cleaved through her dress and not her body, smashing directly into the ground.
In fact, the smashing fist created a terribly loud rumble, an actual shaking running along the stage, small cracks running along the entire floor, with the area where he directly punched being reduced to loose, smashed up rock. It was impressive in its own right, sure, but not what he needed. Then, Shouko used her momentum and skill to do an axeheel kick, or whatever she'd call it, to smash right into his protected head, the power behind it pushing his head a bit into his shoulder, his head growing slightly dizzy when she landed it.
It was not dizzy enough to stop him, however - and as her heel hit his head, he decided to surprise her with the versatility of his cape: it moved away from his head after the impact, releasing itself into loose tendrils so that it could wrap around her entire pale leg. Sure, she could redirect brutal blows from his arm, but could she redirect HERSELF!? So, even if he had to leave his head unprotected for that moment, he still started swinging her body around quite harshly, repeatedly attempting to slam her body into the ground as if she was a ragdoll, trying to push as much damage into her before she figured out how to escape.
..There was a problem. He hadn't eased up on his brutal pace since he started and this, though it hadn't showed yet in any tangible loss of force, was still internally felt. If he continued to keep this up, he'd start bleeding power..!

The connection was solid. Perhaps too solid- The expected recoil and retreat was not to come, the boy's quirk grabbing her leg in the very moment that it struck. Once more, the girl found herself tossed about in the air, her immense weight no barrier to the violent strength of Kouta's quirk. Yet what the high speed cameras in the audience would catch on her face as she was whipped about was not frustration at falling into the boy's clutches. Nor was it pain at the repeated impacts at the floor, although those did no favors to her armor. Least of all was it despair, the girl's grin shining even as it was lost to motion blur... It was amazing none of those pearly whites had shattered on the ground, but that was suspension of disbelief for you!
This was exactly what she wanted to see! This strength, this skill... The minute control needed to weave the shadowy cloak into not one big mallet-like fist, but into the numerous tendrils wrapped about the stone shoe of her outfit... Yes! this was it! This was battle! The giving, the taking! Kouta had asked a question, and she answered! She had asked a question, and Kouta answered! Now he was asking again... What would her response be?
In this case, the answer was that- Yes, she could redirect herself. Or rather, the entire core of her fourth stance, the most unusual of her four, was predicated on the idea. Like how a judoka used the opponent's momentum against them, she was a genius at using her own momentum... of course, that was typically momentum which came from her own efforts. This would be her first time attempting to control the flow of her own momentum in the midst of being thrown by an opponent... And as ridiculous as the idea sounded, even to her... It was that ridicule that brought such a foolish grin to her face, as she sought that rarest of rare opening!
Weight and rotation. Two simple concepts formed the basis of all that Shouko did- And she would use both in conjunction, in her effort to break free from Kouta's hold. The cracks in her battle dress grew with each swing, the garment unlikely to last long even if she broke away that very instant... And so, rather than preserve her armor, she chose to abandon it thoroughly. Twisting her body this way and that, such that the impacts which shattered the concrete floor shattered the stone instead of her bones.
And by this preservation, she would find her opening! As she approached the ground, her arms would erupt into the stone clubs that were her signature... For the first, and only time this fight. Without her battle dress as a counterweight, the clubs simply proved too unwieldy to use... But she wasn't using them for damage, this time! Between the destruction of her dress and the formation of the clubs, the weight distribution of Shouko's body shifted completely! No longer was it centered well below her legs, where Kouta grasped- Her outstretched arms brought it to the opposite end of her body! The clubs slammed into the ground after one last of Kouta's blows... And there they remained, the girl's signature stability showing itself in a most unusual manner.
And from weight, rotation- As soon as her arms were planted, the girl's body twisted, testing the limits of the cloak's ability to grasp. It was like the death roll of a crocodile, attempting to tear not herself free from Kouta's cloak, but the tendrils of Kouta's cloak free from the rest! Of course, unlike the crocodile, she had no vice-like grip to ensure that the cloak remained wrapped about her legs... Nor was there any certainty that her strength would be able to rip the tough darkness that made up Kouta's quirk. But all she needed was a small gap, enough to worm herself free!
However, even should she do so, it would seem a herculean task to recover. As she flipped back to her feet, the stone around her arms would crumble away, the impact with the stadium not on a level they could withstand. Her stone armor would be lost in entirety, revealing white skin, and the sporty undergarments worn beneath it for... Well, for this exact reason. If there was any advantage she had, it was that her breathing was still light, her face still smiling. While she had not been going any less all-out than her opponent... It was clear that she had not been lugging all this stone around for nothing! But without her armor, could she withstand Kouta's blows for long enough to make use of it?

Kouta was beyond violent in his smashes and swings, to the point where some of the higher ups might have considered stopping it entirely, to disqualify Kouta from that match for taking it too far. The way his tendrils moved around while smashing Shouko everywhere with reckless abandon, the way he seemed to relish in the violence, the way his violent tendencies seemed to only worsen as dust and rubble continued to shoot up into the skies. It could have ended all there, should the hold have been put on someone whose quirk wasn't made for defensive capabilities and abilities weren't perfectly adaptable for situations like these.
Even as he shredded through her dress and crushed everything that she put out, including those clubs, what truly mattered was the temporary weight shift: as Kouta had been unwilling to really seal his grip by stabbing the cape into her leg, to really have the perfect hold on her, it wound up having his cape slip out of her leg, the gap worsened by the twisting of her leg, leaving it with naught but a harsh bruise on it due to the incredibly heavy grip that had likely only worsened due to the sheer weight she had on her until everything was shed off.
"You.. Always showing no fear, Shouko-chan. You always impress! I admire you so much.~" Kouta's voice had deepened a bit since the last time they fought, while it even deepened further once he used his quirk. He couldn't help but smile wide at his opponent, so happy that he had someone who could take a beating to really let out all that excess energy and fury bottled up in his quirk, even if he was starting to feel a tad bit short of breath - the reckless nature of his fighting style wasting a good deal of his stamina. Stamina that he was guessing that he had less than her.
Nah, actually, no need to guess. It was obvious that she had a lot more stamina than him, with her showing no signs of fatigue after taking such a harsh beating. He'd have to step it up if he wanted a real victory here. ..The loss wouldn't be too bad for him either way so, thankfully, the lack of pressure to win no matter what actually kept Kouta calm. "I like you, you know? You were the first to show me how much fun this can be, even if my quirk was an emotional time bomb. Don't fall, now!" Kouta bit his underlip with excitement, a slightly jagged grin showing soon after; he dashed directly at her once again, the recoil of his take off crushing the very arena under him, his speed taking him to her in no time. Still using the very functional strategy of going for several, spread out tricky attacks with tendrils instead of putting all of his figurative eggs in one basket, Kouta began an entire rush against her.
Chasing her, almost. With every punch of his real arms that he'd throw, the tendrils around his body would attempt to land ten others, feeling as if she was trying to dodge and parry six equally strong Koutas, all of whom were deathly focused on giving her a royal beatdown. Of course, this was still very much stamina-taxing.
