Kumoko sighed. She just hoped that winter would hurry up and go already. Sure she liked the snow. But that came at the cost of having to wear thick clothes, especially around her spider body and legs. Making special clothes for her unique physiology was not the worst thing in the world, but it did mean that her legs (which functioned as her ears) were covered up, making it harder to hear things. Very inconvenient. But what could she do? This was the quirk she was born with.
On the bright side, Kumoko thankfully didn't trip yet on her way to the park. She was always a fan of the park. Not only did she meet some wonderful friends here, but the place was often crawling with insects. Most people would naturally avoid the creepy crawlies here, but Kumoko was fascinated by them. Beetles, flies, butterflies, pretty much anything not named wasps. And even better than insects? Spiders! Beneath a tree branch, Kumoko noticed a large web with several spiders. She took her phone out and took several pics of the cuties. Sure, most people were afraid of or hated bugs and spiders, but not Kumoko. She believed them to be underrated, fascinating creatures.
Then again, seeing as her head was a giant jorō spider, this was probably to be expected.
She was carrying a large bag of goodies that she had bought at the mall. Kumoko took out one of her favorite snacks: a honey cake shaped like a bee. The girl was a fan of sweets. She was a fan of insects. So naturally this would be one of her favorite snacks ever. Which was why she bought a bunch. Plenty to eat now, and plenty to take back home and save for later.
There were several people at the park as usual. Many of which were off doing their own thing, like making snow angels, getting into snowball fights, talking among themselves, and just having a good time. With how frequently Kumoko visited the park, most people were not freaked out by her bizarre appearance. There were the occasional few that glanced in her direction sometimes, but Kumoko just ignored them. At least they left her alone and didn't cause trouble. Most of the time, anyway.
Kumoko sat down on one of the park benches, smiling cheerfully as she unwrapped the sweet cake, lowered the scarf that covered her mouth, and took a bite. Mmm, so good! She then noticed a snowball zooming by, missing her face by only a few centimeters. Kumoko almost jumped in surprise. Thankfully, it seemed to be an accident, as she heard someone in the distance apologizing. Afterwards, Kumoko just continued eating her cake.
Hopefully I won't actually get hit by one. That would be terrible.

Brrr, it was SO cold. This snow was terrible and the bush it was hiding in was of no help. The animal ran away, the snowballs were of no help either. It ran to avoid snow angels and eveything. The animal jumped on a random bench to avoid the cold snow. Coincidentally it was the same place where a familiar spider landy sat. The animal was surprised to see her. But still wasnt sure was this animal or human, it just remembered the tasty treat. Speaking of which, she had one with her now.
It drooled as it looked at the snack. But it didnt dare to come close. It was still cautious. But then the cold wind blew, which made the animal change its mind and scurry close to the spider girl to huggle and snuggle with the spider for warmth. It probably freaked the spider out that a bug suddenly did this. But it was necessary for warmth. Because it was really cold. The animal hoped this wasnt bothering the spider lady, but it couldnt be helped. After a bit of huddling, the animal looked at the spider lady. Still uncertain as to what this was. So many confusing signs

Kumoko shivered. No matter how wrapped up in warm clothes and scarves she was, it still felt cold. Oh, how she wished she had a giant plushie or something to snuggle with. That would be nice! Perhaps she could head back to the mall to order some hot chocolate or something. A shame she could not drink coffee. Seeing the effects coffee had on regular spiders, Kumoko would naturally avoid it herself. There was one time where she had a tiny sip of coffee, just because the girl was too curious. Needless to say that it was not a pretty sight. Fortunately, Hiroshi was there supervising her that time. So at least the girl did not do anything too stupid.
As Kumoko was just finishing her honey cake, she felt something brush up on her leg. Eh? She was freaked out at first, wondering what it was that was touching her. But upon looking down, Kumoko's expression and thoughts pretty much made a complete 180. "Omigosh, hi!" It was the cutie from that other day at the park. It was so good to see it again! "Aww, you cold too?" Kumoko felt bad for the poor thing. At least she had clothing to protect herself from the cold, but the poor little green one had no such luxury. Well it was time to go fix that! Kumoko slowly extended her arms towards the little guy (or girl, it was not easy to tell a mutated insect's gender). Assuming that the green insect made no visible objections, Kumoko would then pick it up very gently as though it were a baby, then place it next to her on the bench where it was free to huddle up with her for as long as it wished.
Regardless, Kumoko would then take out one of her honey cakes, taking it out of its wrapper and placing it in front of the adorable critter. "You hungry? I have plenty, so I don't mind sharing with you if you want. Help yourself to however much you want." Kumoko just wanted to pet the cutie, hold it, hug it, but she had to restrain herself. She did not want to startle or overwhelm the little one. It was better to let it come to her, to let it do what it wanted.
Ooh, I should take a pic of you! Or maybe do a sketch! Or both!

When the girl noticed the bug, she went what the humans call 'fangirl mode' and greeted the bug happily. The critter replied as it was taught from various interactions with like "B̷̝̓a̵̝̒r̸̲͂k̵̜̾" it was an attempt at a bark. Spider girl asked if the animal was cold too. And the animal nodded back in reply. Yes it was very cold. Then it noticed that the spider girl extended her arms at the animal and picked it up and held it in a strange way. But either way it was a bit warmer so it didnt figdet even if it had the urge too. She then offered food, another offer the animal happily took and munched.
After some time of munching and helping itself with food. It once again looked at her curiously and "B̷̝̓a̵̝̒r̸̲͂k̵̜̾" again, its something it saw in life. Certain animals would make this barking or borking sound like this and humans would find it cute. They approved of this strangeness. Anywho the animal now clung close to the spider human for warmth. This weather was terrible, but like this the animal figured it could manage the winter times. It only needed to find that green woman once more

Now this was quite the surprise! Not only did the little cutie know how to bark (and quite adorably too, since it took everything Kumoko had to not squee right then and there), but it seemed to be able to understand her, nodding at Kumoko's question. Now of course Kumoko wanted to hug and snuggle it and keep it safe from the harsh cold. But first, it was chow time. Kumoko knew better than to try and interrupt the lil critter while it ate. It was a given that basically every life on Earth ever did not like to be interrupted during a meal. Plus, doing so would be quite rude.
After finishing its meal, the critter barked again at Kumoko, who smiled back. Of course, she did not want to suddenly pet it in case it did not like or want that. Despite seeing that it could secrete acid the last time they met, it was not the acid that made the girl hesitant. Rather, it was the fear of doing something to make the adorable insectoid feel uncomfortable. Kumoko wanted to make sure hugging or petting it was okay before doing so. But then the little cutie clung close to Kumoko for warmth. The spider-headed girl smiled. How could anything in the world be so adorable?!
She then decided to take off her scarf. Carefully and gently picking up the animal, Kumoko wrapped the scarf around its body like a silk cocoon (but in such a way where it could still move around and not have the scarf on too tight), leaving only its head exposed. She then picked it up as though it were a baby, and then held it close to her, snuggling with it and shielding it from the cold. Of course, removing her own scarf meant that now Kumoko felt colder. But that did not matter, because she preferred being the one to suffer the cold than the poor insect. "Don't worry, I'll keep you all nice and warm."
As she gently held the little one, a thought occurred to her. Was this cutie someone's pet? Or was it a stray? As much as Kumoko just wanted to take this adorable critter home with her, she knew that it was wrong to do so. Even if it did not belong to anyone, it was wrong to take away a little sentient bug that for all she knew wanted to remain free. Kumoko would just help keep the little one safe from the cold until it could find its way back home.
Speaking of home, Kumoko decided to ask the little one. "Where's your home? Do you live here in the park? Or is someone taking care of you?" It might feel silly to someone to try asking an insect where its home was, but Kumoko wanted to make sure that the lil critter wasn't lost. Or if it was lost, she wanted to help get it home. But in the meantime, she would just do whatever she could to keep the cutie safe and comfortable.

The spider girl took off her scarf. She then gently picked up the animal and wrapped the cloth around it. It was an interesting feelling to say the least. But then she also picked it up as if it was a human cub and held the animal close to her. Hmm, this was actually kind of nice~ And it was warm. The animal liked this a lot. It was happy. She was so nice for a human insect hybrid.
The animal looked at her when she asked if it has a home, the animal pondered. How to answer. Maybe it should try and speak "H̸͔͛e̸͛͜r̴̯͐e̸̪͆,̷̏͜ ̶̯̍t̸͍̂h̷̢̋ẹ̷͋r̶̨͘ẹ̴͊,̸̔͜ ̷̪͌a̸̧͆ń̴̝y̴͚͛w̵̮͊h̶̞͋e̴͔̔r̸̺̈́ẻ̸̺" it made its noise trying to explain that home is a very relative term to it. But it doubted the girl can understand it. The animal wished someone did. It hoped that her arachnoid insect lineage would help her understand what it was saying to her. Perhaps it was wisful thinking on the critters part. It did try its best to mimic human noises. Hmm, it needed to become more human in order to survive in a world populated by them

It was a shame Kumoko could not understand the little critter's words. What was it trying to say? Did it have a place to call home? Or did it not? There was one thing Kumoko could understand, however. This small critter's voice... is SO ADORABLE, AAAAAAAA! Something this precious needed to be protected. Kumoko was happy she had given the little one her scarf. Even if she was now feeling a bit colder, at least the small one would be fine. Kumoko did not mind shivering a bit.
But one thought did cross Kumoko's mind. She may not understand the insectoid's words, but maybe it could understand her? Hmm, how to find out, though? Well right now, all Kumoko could think of was just to ask directly. Perhaps ask it to nod if it knew what she was saying? But did it understand the concept of a nod? Was its version of 'yes' and 'no' the same as a person's? There was only one way to check and see.
"Hey, um... Can you understand me? Do you know what I'm saying?" Maybe it could understand her words. But how would she even be able to tell what it's saying? If only she were better with technology. Then perhaps she could build a translator of some kind. Wouldn't that be wonderful? The spider girl decided to try and do so once she got back to the school. She was a Support Studies student, after all. Surely it would not be too difficult to build one, right? And even if it was, Kumoko could always go ask one of her senpais.
At the end of the day, it did not matter if Kumoko couldn't communicate with words. As long as the little one knew she wanted to help it any way she could, that was what mattered.

The spider girl spoke, asking if the animal can understand her. The bug first yawned a bit to get that out of the way. And then it nodded. Yes, indeed it understood what the sider, erm spider was saying. But it was a one way track of communication. The animal yawned once more and tried to position itself in a rest position.
But the animal did not nap nor sleep. It was still awake as it was listening to what the spider girl would do. It didnt wanna go to sleep yet. This spider insectoid girl seemed interesting and nice. The bug wondered if she frequented the same building as Honey and that green woman do. That building seemed like their place to live, their nest? Nice people originate from there. Maybe thats their human species like? Humans use nests, right? Hmm, is that why the animal wasnt allowed to go there. Because its their territory? Maybe the bug should find some territory for itself. Something that would be its own and no one elses. Maybe one day it should take a stand instead of bending over to humans and give them everything. That was food for thought. Maybe one day when it finds something it likes, it will pounce and take it
