A rather tired looking high schooler sat at a table- Before him, his former classmate. Former, in that she had long since left school, having completed her coursework and received a medical license. Despite being the same age, the one was a bona fide doctor, with some famous exploits under her belt already. It would not be a surprise if the white haired youth were to be envious- But far from, he seemed quite happy to meet this old friend of his. Even though the exhaustion in his voice was impossible to disguise, and the drooping lips left his smile looking more wry than intended. "Thanks for finding the time, Elise-san." He would finally say, greeting his old friend. "I know your schedule's quite full these days."
Of course, he didn't even know that half of it. And that was for the best, for if he knew the half of it, he would never be able to sleep again. Out of worry, of course- While he was aware of Elise's work as a doctor, he was entirely unaware of her other position- That of a spy. But then, if even Haruto knew, then it wouldn't reflect nearly so well on her abilities, would it? However, he was at least aware that she was quite busy, and that she had taken the time to meet with him... Frankly, it was almost as soon as he had asked. He had worried that they were growing apart, but it seemed that was just his imagination.
Still he couldn't help but chuckle. "It's really been a while, hasn't it? Almost a year since we got to talk like this." Well, there were a lot of reasons for that. First, the military exhibition had gone south... And by the time they had recovered from that, Elise had fallen into a coma... He had briefly seen her during the sports festival, as he helped the school nurse treat the injuries which had occured, but... Even that, hadn't had much to it. The whole event had been so hectic, after all. And so, despite his best efforts to keep in touch, Haruto always felt caught off guard by the changes in Elise's life. He still found it hard to believe she had performed a televised surgery, and back then he hadn't even known she had received her license!
And of course, even that last conversation they had had... Had been tainted. The shadow of the death of Elise's parents hung over it, causing Haruto's expression to sour at the thought of. This past year would have been the time Elise needed her friends the most, and where had he been? The whole time was such a blur, he hardly even knew what had seemed so important at the time! But whatever it was, was the true reason to have led him here today. As much as he would love to spend the whole time catching up with his friend- If it were only that, it would never have been worth her time. Even if she did not see it that way, he would.
"I apologize for my appearance. It has been an... Interesting week. Nimue-sensei took an extended leave, and this fool I thought it would be a good idea to volunteer as Serperior-sensei's TA while he is on leave as well..." Although he did not know it, Elise likely was more aware of said events than he himself was. The most he knew of the Shinagawa raid was the official press release- Hardly its effects on his teachers. "But that does lead me to why I asked you here... Honestly, if anyone can give me advice on this, it is you." Eventually, he couldn't stall any longer, and gave up why he wanted to speak with Elise. Because she had taken her college courses while still in school- And, funny, that was the exact opportunity he was being offered.
"Hatsumomo-sensei and Nimue-sensei have arranged- A chance, as it were. For me to take college courses while maintaining my enrollment in UA. I just... I don't know. I love the idea- I've always wanted to be a doctor, as you know. But... If it's something I can handle? Would it be better to wait the year? The sensei seem to think I have something I don't..." Talent. If he had a talent for medicine, it was purely in his studies of it- In which he would hardly claim to be second to anyone. At least in terms of dedication. But then there were those such as Elise, or Rin, who had studied as much as he had, but had... A level of talent besides. A nature that allowed them to exceed their age. Haruto was skilled at medicine for a high schooler, but in the grand scheme, he knew better than anyone his actual talent.
"At the same time... I keep seeing people hurt. Semper Fi. Even in UAs own sports festival. As much as I hate to admit it... I'm impatient. Eight years of schooling is a long time, cutting it down by even one year... How much could I accelerate my studies? But that's on the premise that I can keep up... Elise-san, you've taken these courses before. What do you think?" Impatience. That was exactly it. A trait few had accused Haruto of- And yet, that was how he felt. He was tired of being the one who only watched as his classmates sacrificed themselves- He wanted to be able to put them back together after! He just... Wasn't sure if by being too hasty, he would have the opposite effect.

The request for a meeting had come unexpected, although not unwanted. In fact, Elise was quite glad that her former classmate had asked for her time. After all, with all the official business she had been getting involved with, and some of the paperwork that she had to prepare for her work at the disciplinary committee had left Elise von Eisenberg in quite a need to relax. Certainly, during the weekends she could enjoy some time off with Tetsuko, but at the same time this was a healthy change of pace also. When Haruto spoke, the first thing she noticed was the evidence of exhaustion in his voice, the signs of tiredness evident and as he spoke Elise raised a finger, shaking it lightly. "-san? Geez Haru, you're sounding so formal that I almost thought I was working right now. Just call me Elise, we're friends, after all, ~" Still, the talk about the schedule bit earned a slightly wry smile from the girl. "No kidding, between emergency meetings at the hospital and the paperwork for the new job I applied for I have my hands full, but I'm more than happy to make time for a former classmate and a friend, I'm sure you would do the same~"
She smiled kindly at him, the chuckle earning a light nod of her head. "Time passes quickly, doesn't it? Then again, I find that it makes the moments of peace like this all the more precious." She gazed softly at her drink, a cup of tea she had ordered a bit ago. There was something about it that made her feel at ease, just the flavor of the tea and the chance to look at the seemingly tranquil surface... "We all tend to grow up so quickly, and get involved in so many things that it sounds outlandish at times. Where are the days that all I dreamed of was to become Tetsu's bride~" she giggled sheepishly at the last remark, a little joke to easen the mood a little.
Elise raised the cup of tea to her lips, a soft sip being taken as she noticed the changes of his expression, his words that followed making her nod her head lightly in response. "A brave decision that I'm certain many of the students will have appreciated Haru, it's unfortunate that so many heroes got injured. Certainly, Oracle might had been captured, but at what cost? How many police officers fell victim to those villains? How many heroes and vigilantes might have gotten injured in the skirmish. The media calls it a victory, but it still came at an immense cost." Indeed, especially with the death of her master being tied to those events. She paused for a bit, giving him the chance to speak, yet when he asked for advice she couldn't help but blink in confusion. "Me?" As he started to explain the idea was raised of college courses being offered while maintaining his studies in UA, Elise frowned for a moment. She could see where this was going. To take college courses to speed up his education, to obtain as much knowledge and experience as possible to become skilled enough to protect people... to save them.
"I think you're putting the cart before the horses Haru." She paused and smiled gently as she continued. "What you desire to do requires dedication, to persevere no matter the hardships you'll endure during your studies. To accelerate your education is not a matter of being a genius, in my opinion, the first and foremost requirements are to be hard-working and to have a certain talent... the talent known as being so stubborn. However, more so than anything, you need a goal, motivation for you to endure this, so that no matter how difficult things become you'll always find that push to go forward."
She nodded her head in affirmation to Haruto's concern. "It is important to pace yourself, learn your limits and know how far you can push yourself without your body suffering for it. However, considering Orlov-sensei thinks highly enough of you to appoint you as his Teacher Assistant, and both Nimue-sensei and Hatsumomo-sensei believe in you, I believe it's more than worth a try."
Still... she felt her smile turning more sorrowful. "Just keep in mind Haru that we aren't omnipotent, we can't save everyone even if we desire to. You're right that I took those courses before, but in all honesty, it also had its downsides. I lack the experience of my peers, and as much as I like to consider myself mature, I am still only nineteen years old. Some things require time and experience, don't forget that Haru. Especially in our field, impatience can lead to a patient's death."
She leaned back in her seat and shifted her gaze from Haruto to the window. "I guess it's not impossible... If we were to focus on strengthening your stamina so that you can study for longer periods and need less sleep." She shifted her gaze back at the teenager and smiled. "Although to be honest my stamina isn't on par with what it used to be after my injury. However, if you wish we can work alongside the teachers to develop a proper schedule for you?"
She raised a hand to her chin, pondering softly. "Maybe ask Kirk to jog with you, having company does tend to help stimulate the results, and if anyone has the know-how of such stuff it should be him~" She smiled and leaned back in her chair. "Still, to think you are going this route... it's nostalgic. Ah well~ it's only fair I tell you about my new job after all the entrusting you did to me."
She chuckled softly and looked at Haruto as she inquired. "Do you know about the Public Safety Commission?"
Indeed, she might as well tell Haruto, to reassure her friend that things were alright. After all, she did recall the last time they had actively talked was during one of her more trialing times...

Haruto lightly smiled. That was Elise-sa... Elise. Always wanting him to drop the formalities. He acquiesced, smiling helplessly. "Very well, Elise it is." He volunteered. It was rare enough for him to use someone's first name, let alone dropping the honorific- He was just habitually polite! But she was telling the truth- When it came to his friends, there was nothing he would not drop. "Oh, you applied for a new job?" He was surprised, but then- That was Elise for you. Never stopping, always moving ahead. Now that was what he wanted to be like. He smiled. It seemed some things hadn't changed, at least.
All in all, it was a nostalgic moment. A rare bit of peace. It almost made him wish that they could remain reminiscing forever, without moving on to the future- But time, as always, moved on. "Indeed it does. But that's what Heroes are for- Protecting those small moments of peace. So even if it gets hectic, I won't regret my decision." For those small moments of peace- To protect the friends he had made, and the ones he was yet to make. Even if it meant that time would continue to fly by like this. As for Elise's wish- He couldn't help but smile. Elise and Tetsuko were a constant, even if nothing else was!
A moment of silence fell upon them as the conversation took a darker turn. Even not knowing about Spymaster's death, or his relation to Elise- Haruto knew that she was right. Too many villains had escaped, too many heroes been injured... Nimue-sensei and Serperior-sensei, both on leave. it was a sobering thought... And one that maintained his determination. He wanted to be there when it was his classmates raiding the villains, so that when they came back alive, he could make sure that they were also in one piece. Or, failing that, putting the pieces back together. He just... Wasn't sure if he was capable enough to do so.
And it was that renewed determination which led to him being able to speak his mind so firmly. To lay out the insecurities he had not even let Chise know about, the fears he could not even show before his teachers. And Elise listened to them all, as his friend. And gave him advice, as one who had been there and done that. She was right. He was getting ahead of himself. It was amazing how Haruto could assume the best of everyone he met, and yet assume the worst about himself. But Elise's follow up forced him to pause- Eh? It was clear by her words that she hadn't meant what his first thought was. It wasn't that he was trying to put his desires before his skills, but that he was looking at the wrong skills in the first place.
If it was anyone else telling him so, Haruto may have been more skeptical. But Elise was one of those people with the talent he lacked, someone who had taken the path he was staring down. And moreso than that, she was his friend. "Is that so? That does... Put me a lot at ease." He admitted. After all, if there was one talent he had, it was at working hard. He didn't know if he would be called stubborn, but... He sort of got her point. If he did decide to do it, he had to see it through to the end. He couldn't give up in the middle. The question was, would he be able to do that?
As for a goal... A goal was something he had too many of. Becoming a doctor. Rescue studies. His work in the infirmary tied into the first... But would he be able to keep it up alongside working on college courses? And his time spent as a TA... He couldn't just abandon those kids! Was his goal worth abandoning the things he had found? Were the things he had found, worth abandoning his goal? He simply couldn't be sure. He kept listening.
And her next words aligned with the words that had been pushing back his self doubt all this time. That the teachers believed in him- Or they wouldn't have given him so many opportunities. Even Hatsumomo-sensei deferred to him with regards to the infirmary. He wasn't that skilled, didn't deserve such treatment... And yet, they saw something in him, that even he himself had not seen. His lips pursed as he contemplated. Elise thought it was worth trying. The teachers thought so as well. Why was he the only one to not think the same way? He paused... "Thank you." Elise was telling him exactly what he needed to hear. Giving life to the tiny voices in his heart that had been screaming at him ever since he was given the choice- The ones saying, you can do it!
However, she did not simply stop there. The downsides were laid clear- Inexperience. Immaturity. The dangers of impatience. His pride chilled as soon as it had warmed- The exact fears upon which his self doubts lay, had also been given voice. ..." And that's exactly why I'm so conflicted about it..." He admitted quietly. If before he was subdued due to intently listening and ruminating, now his quiet voice was the voice of a boy encased in self doubts. "Am I being too impatient?" His insensitive question would come- If starting a year early was impatient, then what would Elise's path have been called?
However, her next suggestion blindsided him. "Eh? Stamina?" He was quite surprised. His core strength had always been weak due to his quirk- And despite its downsides lessening, it had still proven difficult to improve in that respect. The damage had already been done, and despite being under control, his quirk remained as voracious as ever. For each step forward, he took a step backwards as well. It was already a miracle that he had been able to recover to what could be considered a normal level as far as stamina went- To go beyond that? But... She had a point. If his body were to be healthier than this, would there really be any problem as far as workload went?
"I see, I had not considered approaching it from that angle before. As you know, and Kirk as well... My quirk is not exactly conductive to such things. But if I were to give up without a fight this early... I shouldn't even bother with college courses, isn't that right?" He seemed to have gained an understanding of what she was saying. And finally, that new job she had mentioned earlier, came up again. "Public safety commission? No, I can't say I have." He admitted frankly. Such things were above his level in the first place. But he couldn't help but be curious- What this job Elise had applied for was.

Elise smiled in approval as Haruto volunteered to her request to drop the honorific, after all she felt that as friends it felt so strange for her to be called -san, almost uncomfortable even. Indeed, to her friendship was something special, almost akin to a second family in a way, even if most would likely consider that notion silly. Perhaps it was for that reason she felt somewhat hurt by the lack of communication from the people she knew at U.A, and maybe that was the reason she was so glad that Haruto asked for this meeting. Elise raised a hand to her cheek, pondering for a moment at Haruto's statement. "Indeed, heroes tend to protect those small moments of peace, but no hero is invincible, which makes it important to ensure there are those that support their heroes in time of need." A momentary smile graced her lips at her statement, her resolution still evident. She might have left the hero academy, but her course was still clear, her goal still evident: to protect and support those dear to her.
Still, there was no denying the fact that the hero system was in a dangerous condition right now. A lot of heroes were injured in the wake of Shinagawa, her master had perished and there were still a lot of villains on the loose. It was worrisome to say the least, but she had to make certain that in the future, she would be capable of reducing the casualties as much as possible, it was for that reason she had been training so dilligently.
She nodded her head firmly when Haruto asked if that was indeed the case. "Often there were times I struggled with keeping up, others who had more time and experience seemed to grasp things better and faster, and sometimes there was this gloomy voice in the back of my thoughts asking if I was doing the right thing. I knew I was advancing faster than normally, so slowing down wouldn't hurt, people would understand. Yet each of those times I couldn't help but think of the times Tetsu got injured for my sake, how often she protected me, and how much I wanted to become someone who could save her from any injury. I wanted to become a great doctor who could save my hero. And that wish, that desire turned into a determination that allowed me to stubbornly put in more effort than normally to get where I am now.
She reached back for her cup, taking a soft sip from it as she waited for Haruto's reaction, knowing all too well how complicated of a decision the teenager was considering. Taking the college courses while dealing with the hero academy was going to be difficult, even more difficult than the way she had approached things.
Elise nodded her head slightly as Haruto thanked her, and soon she proceeded to explain the downsides of his decision, wanting to make certain Haruto was aware of the consequences his actions would have. "I wouldn't call it impatient, it shows there is a certain sense of urgency behind your decision, you feel the need to speed things up so that you can support those dear to you. The world won't give you time, nor will the villains that challenge your friends once they graduate. It is important however to make certain that with such urgency, comes an extra demand for effort. You will lack the time and experience of your peers, and as a result will need to spend almost each waking moment studying and practicing to ensure you catch up with them."
"Mhmm~ Surprisingly Stamina is quite important, when you have to spend such long hours, it is important to have a lot of stamina at your disposal. It's not just during your educational period, but even as a doctor you might have to carry out surgeries that take hours upon hours, each which will demand your utmost attention for every single minute without a break. Remember that surgery that was broadcasted? It actually lasted five hours, certainly, I had a nurse assist me, but it still was incredibly draining upon my stamina, and that night I slept waaaaay longer than normally."
Hearing Haruto's resolve earned a chuckle from Elise who hummed softly. "Indeed~ Besides I'm certain Kirk will have some ideas on a proper training schedule for you to grow into~" However, in the wake of that subject they turned toward the matter she had mentioned. "Well, the Public Safety Commission is a governmental organization that is responsible for coordinating the efforts of the police and the pro-heroes during operations. They tend to do a lot of behind the scenes work, like logistics, investigating certain things and during the event they are usually giving guidance and instructions to both groups. In emergency situations I will also enter the field to provide medical assistance to those injured."
She nodded her head briefly, lowering her cup a little and smiled briefly at Haruto. "After all, I think this type of work is best suited for me, entering the field as a hero would be irresponsible when an injured Tetsu might make me turn into a 'YandElise'" the girl joked with a brief snicker as she sighed softly. "Still, sometimes I miss the hustle and bustle of the hero academy a little, it feels a bit cold and lonely now that I'm all by myself. I mean, Tetsu obviously tries to come by as often as possible, but aside from her and you I haven't really seen or heard from anyone since I left the academy. Not that I blame them, I had to leave a bit quietly due to some complications I got involved in..."

Her response brought a smile to his face- It seemed that despite her new role in life, Elise had hardly changed from the person he knew. "Mmhmm! And I'm happy to tell you that Support's been going as well as ever... Though Saito-kun still worries me. We're coming up on our third year and he still hasn't decided on his goals... Nor found it in his heart to study..." Haruto bemoaned- It was clear that his classmate's struggles in his studies were concerning to him, even after stepping down as the class Vice President. But even in this, his optimism shone through- Rather than that Saito was having difficulty, it was more accurate to say that he was actively avoiding either thing. "But I've been helping Orlov-sensei as the teacher's assistant for the first year class, and while there's been a few hitches... Most of them are super enthusiastic, and I can't wait to see how they grow!"
Even those hitches had been mostly rectified... Kouta's lack of direction seemed to have been cleared up, at least. Though he was still concerned by how often Jin was asleep in class... Anyways! "And of course, we second years have hardly been falling behind them!" Once the hero class graduated, there would be plenty of people who had their backs! He guaranteed it! And he himself was only one of those people. Was Elise as well? But then, she never had transferred back into the support course, so perhaps her new job was more in line with heroics? He could only admit to having lost track of his one-time good friend... A fact which hit him like a punch to the gut. What other friends had he just been so busy that he forgot to keep up with?
But he could scroll through his contacts later, right now the one in front of him was Elise! And if he was already feeling a bit glum from his neglect of his social circle, then her words only made him more morose. Imagining the hardships she had gone through... It was true that her talent was significantly higher than his own, and that he had put in no less effort than her... But conversely, did that not mean that she had put in as much effort as he himself had? He would never dismiss her efforts under the regard of talent... But hearing it stated outright, really drove home the hardships she had gone through. But even her, as talented as she was... Had the same insecurities. The same worries when seeing others grasping things more easily than herself. What's the phrase... There's always a bigger fish?
But in the end, what mattered wasn't talent. It was the determination to push forward with the talent you had... And, when it came down to it... Did he have that determination? His reason to want to become a doctor... Even he admitted that it sounded like a children's story. He didn't have the memories Elise had, the love she had, the need she had. All he had was a dream, and a stubborn desire to reach it. Did he have a wish, with that level of conviction? He sought to aid the image of quirks in the world, but... Such a vague dream, could it truly support him in his darkest times?
"I see. When it comes to that, I... I don't know. Becoming a doctor has been my dream since childhood, but... It's not the kind of thing that has a strong reason behind it. Just a childish wish to make the world a better place." He derided himself. "But." His wavering voice regained its strength. It seemed he had come to an answer from inside of his doubts. "Even if, there's no reason. Even if, I don't have anything to fall back on. It's still my dream." Elise could always gain strength from her desire to help her lover. Haruto didn't have that kind of history. Perhaps because his own love was a fellow Support student, and he had never seen her hurt the way Elise had seen Tetsuko. But even so! "That much is my determination." He just didn't know if it would be enough. But! If he gave up now! That would just be admitting that his determination was too weak! His wavering mind stabilized.
Not impatience, but urgency. The knowledge that things were coming soon... Perhaps because the school had already announced that it would be aiding some students in attaining an early graduation? But, with his newfound force of will... "I understand. No, rather, I wouldn't have it any other way." When it came to hard work, Haruto was no stranger- He was the one who would overwork himself rather than have a moment's rest. His current frenzy of obligations was more than enough proof of that, if the frantic manner in which he had been studying medicine was not enough.
He was, of course, aware of how draining surgery could be. It had simply never occured to him how much his own physique would hold him back when it came to that... His eyes widened in realization. "Haha, I'll see what I can work out with him." Unfortunately, both of them underestimated how debilitating Haruto's quirk was towards his physical frame- Even with Kirk's help, he would never reach the level of stamina he needed. "Physical stamina and mental stamina, is it... I'll remember that!" His cheerful attitude was far removed from how he had looked when they met. It seemed his epiphany had helped more than his determination. But for some things, willpower and desire were not enough, and some creativity would be required...
But enough of that! His curiosity was finally sated! "Oh, coordination? Interesting! I'll definitely mention them to my students in the Support class... I know a few of them expressed interest in the communications aspect of support. Heh, and Chise may well be interested. I understand she's been training her investigative talents." The soft voice he spoke in served to show the affection he held. And medical assistance as well... It certainly seemed like a group to be proud of!
But, as she finished... Haruto could only whimper out a, "Sorry..." Her words struck the part of him that was already feeling discontent with his own lack of communication. As busy as he had been... No, there was no excuse. It wasn't fair to Elise to try to justify his own radio silence on the matter. As for her silent leaving... Indeed, he had been quite surprised. The lack of communication had begun long before her leaving, and he had only found out... Eh, how had he found out, again? Tetsuko had mentioned it on the school chat, he thought... Maybe? He... Really had been too focused on himself, he started to realize.
But what the boy forgot- Or perhaps, ignored due to a desire to blame himself over others- Was that communication is a two way street!
