APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY
Appearance:
Rei is a tall, muscular young woman with sharply defined muscles and a hefty bulk to her frame. At over two meters in height she looms over most normal people, and her musculature ensures she appears proportionate to her height. Rei has dark, caramel coloured skin most of the time, with bright red eyes set below thin eyebrows. Her short, messy hair is white at the front and red at the back, hanging around her face and most importantly covering her forehead. Red tattoos cover her cheeks.
At the top of her forehed hairline Rei has two circular patches of hardened keratin where her horns grow in, however she keeps them ground down to small stumps. In the middle of her forehead sits her third eye, normally kept shut and hidden from the world it appears as a simple line in her head when closed. Opening the eye reveals a poisonous yellow iris with a four pointed star shaped pupil and a black sclera.
When agitated, Rei's skin can change to a red tone, her primary eyes shifting in colour to match the third one. She cannot consciously control it at this stage.
Rei prefers loose fitting comfortable clothes that show off her body, often preferring sleeveless tops and sports pants in simple colours. When on the job she dresses the part of an Oni, wearing a few armour plates around her hips, loose fitting pants, and sandals, and wraps around her chest and arms, fur lined leather gauntlets adding to the 'barbarian' aesthetic. She wears a string of prayer beads around her neck, and an Oni half mask rests on her head, ready to be slipped over her face when needed.

Personality:
On the outside, Rei appears to live up to the stereotype of her 'species', loud, brash, violent, and fond of three of the four Fs. Rei is the sort of person who wants to live life to the fullest, and she isn't inclined to let others get in her way of a life well enjoyed. Rei enjoys fighting, allowing herself to use her strength and skill to overcome others in feats of ability, and she has no qualms in killing or maiming in the name of her enjoyment of combat. That said, she is not inherently cruel, rather simply lacking sympathy for those in her path. Self confident, she has a short temper that is especially triggered by underhanded tactics, pompous idiots, and other 'useless' things. Rei is not one to let slights go, and can hold a grudge for quite some time, the vengeance she reaps ranging from a simple punch to trying to kill the target of her ire, depending on the severity of the insult done to her.
Beneath that layer is someone who is capable of great emotions, joy, sorrow, fear, rage, Rei feels them deeply. She is a loyal individual once her loyalty is earned, will try her best to do what is required, and follows her own moral code to the letter. In some ways, she emulates the traditions of the Samurai, at least the ones that she agrees with. Not one for falsehoods, Rei speaks openly and stands up for what she believes, putting herself on the line for it. Some might be surprised to learn she is quite devoutly Shinto, focusing her devotions on the Kami Hachiman. Even further down, buried so deep she doesn't really realise it, Rei holds some deep seated insecurities about herself and her 'monstrous' heritage.

HISTORY
Nakamura Rei was born in Ise, in the Mie Prefecture, to the son of a Kannushi and a Miko connected to one of the many shrines to Amaterasu that form the Ise Grand Shrine. Rei's family were deeply entwined in the Shinto community of Ise, and she was expected to follow in their footsteps to become a Miko herself. When her quirk first started manifesting at a young age, her parents were horrified, knowing how the rest of the family would react to their child's changing body. When the toddler's horns first grew in, it was her father who carefully ground them down to hide them from the stern patriarch of the family, trying to ensure that his beloved child's secret was kept hidden. When her lower canines fell out and were replaced by large tusks, her mother took her to a dentist to have them reshaped.
Eventually, her parents' attempts at disguising her changing form became futile, while she could hide her horns, her tusks, and even her third eye, the shift in her skin tone eventually drew the attention of her paternal grandparents. It was obvious to her family that she had become an Oni, and as any good Kannushi knew, only the most evil of people became Oni while they were still alive. Caught off guard by her grandfather one morning, she was subjected to numerous rituals meant to purify her at best, or banish her to the spirit world at worst. It took two days of this before her mother and father found where she was being kept and she was quickly moved out of the city, shuttled off to live with a distant cousin in Kyoto. She was 13 at the time.
In Kyoto, Rei found that her cousin had no real interest in supervising her, and so was left to fend for herself in most situations. Sure, she had a roof over her head, food to eat, and an opportunity to go to school, but that was all that the cousin did for her. With such a free rein over her life, the young girl soon found her way into the darker parts of the city. With her quirk fully manifested, she appeared much older than she actually was, and as such was able to become acquainted with the various criminal elements of Kyoto from almost the moment she arrived. Labelled a delinquent in school, she spent much of her time on the streets deciding that if she was going to be cast out as an Oni, she would be an Oni. It didn't take her long before she was fighting criminals to prove herself to the underworld, her body becoming larger and stronger as time passed, much to the surprise of those she regularly interacted with.
Rei eventually codified her experiences of combat into a unique martial art she (not so creatively) named 'Onido', the Way of the Oni, and managed to get her hands on a sturdy kanabo to reinforce that image. Her teenage years were split between attending just enough school to get accreditation for completing it, and doing odd jobs for various gangs, gangsters, and up-and-coming villains. Freed from the constraints of her traditionalist family, Rei decided that life was meant to be lived, and she would have as much fun with it as she could. She could never shake her early beliefs and outright obsession with Samurai culture as a child, and so she added some elements of that to her own moral code and attitudes before advertising herself as muscle for hire for whichever group wanted to pay her enough. Her steadfast loyalty to whichever person held her contract, along with her casually mercenary attitude, earned her the pseudonym Yojimbo.
