Today, on the 10th of November 2073, the Australia and New Zealand Heroics Oversight Program, ANZHOP for short, has officially commenced operations. Twin headquarters in Wellington and Sydney have allowed their employed Professional Heroes to begin operating within the borders of both countries.
During a morning press conference in Sydney, Australian PM Lachlan Taylor and New Zealand PM Manaia King officially announced the beginning of a new age for Heroes in Australia. Inspired partially by the Japanese Model, ANZHOP will be incorporating prior vigilantes into their initial rank. These carefully selected few will be forgiven of any prior offenses for Vigilantism, and the newly employed ‘Heroes’ will be tasked with aiding in the fight against rising Quirk crime in both countries.
Accompanying the leaders of both countries were representative Heroes of each respective nation. Australia’s popular mutant ‘Hopper’, and the gravity-bending ‘Topsy’ were both responsible for bringing in massive crowds for the conference. Although Topsy declined to provide comments, Hopper provided reporters with his own statement, saying;
“I think it’s a real great thing, y’know? Before this, we were jus’ ‘Vigilantes’ and that meant we didn’t have the best support behind us. Meant we couldn’t do much without havin’ to worry about gettin’ caught ourselves. Now we got this ripper of a program, we can make a bloody big difference to the people of Australia and Aotearoa. Any crooks out there better be ready for us, I’ll tell you that much.”
This event marks the conclusion of year-long negotiations since the concept was first broached in 2072 after the successes of the so-called ‘Japanese Model’ for Professional Heroes. The governments of both countries saw an opportunity to cooperate and coordinate in order to tackle growing concerns within their own borders. Proponents of the program have said that the cooperation between Australia and New Zealand will allow them to tackle greater that than one alone could handle, and implement more effective measures for countering villainy in Oceania.
Many analysts are calling the ANZHOP ambitious but promising. Depending on how successful the program is, we may see a greater interest in transnational Hero Programs in the future. However, only time will tell.
As part of the ANZHOP, Australia and New Zealand have also begun discussions over the opening of their own Hero School to begin training the next generation of Heroes. Details are unclear, but one thing is for certain; in the world of Pro Heroes, Australia and New Zealand are certainly taking their place on the stage.
