The winter months were upon Musutafu, with snow falling periodically and the whole town beginning to, as they say, look a lot like Christmas. This was one of Farrah's favorite times of year, on account of the singing, the festivities, the gift-giving, the decorations, and really, just about everything. The one thing she wasn't especially good with, having come from California in the states: the cold. One might think that with her signature top-coat and the rainbow-colored scarf she always donned, she'd be perfectly geared up for the weather, but there was a critical hole in her defenses: her hands.
As a habitual drummer, Farrah felt the need to keep her hands uncovered at all times and her bongos looped into her belt, just in case she got the urge for an impromptu jam session or a poetry slam. While ordinarily, this ranged from a fun idea to a nuisance of one, it was especially ill-timed for the winter months, because it meant that her hands were always cold. The best she could do was either tuck them under her arms or into her own scarf, but the latter was really made for fashion more than heat. As a result, Farrah always, always had cold hands during the snowfall, which stung worse and worse the more she attempted to spread joy with her drums.
Some might call this a labor of love. Others, foolishness. Either way, it was a constant, and at this point of time, between random training and her increasingly intense hero training as of late, Farrah felt like the stinging was becoming a bit much. As she passed by a mall-Santa in the shopping district, waving at him, he couldn't help but remark that she ought to wear some gloves. "Oh, I'm just feeling the love of Jack Frost's kiss! To wear down a hero will take more than this!" she reassured him. The old man returned a look of confusion, barely understanding the rhyme and certainly not finding himself fooled by it.
At this point, an ordinary person would probably think: "gee, I've been pushing it too hard, I really ought to pop in somewhere and buy some gloves." Farrah was no ordinary person, and thus, instead, she found herself staring at the other mall-goers. There were plenty of people holding each other's hands... should she find someone else to hold hands with, for warmth? No, even she realized that was a bit too intimate. Instead, Farrah decided to do what any rational person would do: she looked for the most bundled up, cozy looking person she could find, then began a dancing spin towards them while their back was turned to her.
Once she achieved ideal range, Farrah thrust her hands out under the unsuspecting stranger's scarf. Feeling immediately a profound sense of relief, as if she'd just entered a warm kotatsu, Farrah did what anyone enjoying a kotatsu would do and enveloped herself more fully, grabbing the stranger in a hug around the neck. The stranger might think they were being attacked by some kind of hoodlum or choked out by some kind of maniac, if it weren't for the gentleness of the gesture. The softness pressing against the stranger's back may or may not be wanted, depending on their preferences.
"Sorry, my friend! A port in a storm! But I simply had to find something to keep my hands warm. Thank you so much for lending me shelter, the poetess cries, as the winter weather pelts her!" Farrah introduced herself, in a manner. "Farrah di Prima, and boy, was I cold! May I ask your name; may I be so bold?" She wasn't entirely sure if she'd grabbed a guy or a girl, but the shock of pink hair she saw from behind certainly stood out from the rest of the crowd. The stranger was a little shorter than she... she contemplated in one corner of her mind whether it was less weird for her to grab an unknown child in this manner, or an adult.

Winter is bad and stinks! With the cold snow that refuses to stop falling into the entire town, the obnoxious singing, the loud festivities, the gift giving that actually was kinda nice, the lights that literally burned his quirk-retinas so hard that it blinded him if he looked directly at it! It all bundled up into the most detestable of holidays, totally not biased because he spent most of his life never celebrating Christmas and all his memories of it, for the longest time, was him being behind bars, brick and mortar, listening to the muffled Christmas songs and parties from the cities.
The cold? Screw the cold, it ain't getting him now! Not now that he had access to some money from his camera gig and allowance. Thanks to all that, Kouta bundled up like a small furnace with the money he had, in warm shirts, hoodies and a big jacket over himself. Gloves, big socks, small and almost way too adorable boots, ear warmers and two scarves that covered both his neck and his mouth through a tight rubber-like strap, covering him from head to toe, making sure he was super warm, snuggly and comfortable in this weather. And as long as he kept his head low and didn't stare into the light, Kouta wouldn't suffer thanks to it either! He'd be able to go out and enjoy the Christmas candy, the best thing about the holidays, in peace!
So, as he quietly paced about the streets, his pitch black eyes constantly scanning the area around himself for a good place to eat at, his entire back was taken by a creeping sensation when he felt like he was being approached. A sort of instinct reaction to a thing that was about to happen: out of nowhere, someone's hands went under one of his scarves, the boy forced to yelp out of surprise, clearly startled over it, wondering if this was it and he was now being kidnapped. The touch was super soft, though. Is this the way that kidnappers get him? By being soft and gentle with him?
Then he was pulled into a hug. An actual hug. Hugs were a sort of super-amazing thing that he always accepted no matter what, really quite weak to it actually, twitching a little while the stranger introduced herself. That was a way to introduce herself by methods of shock therapy. Sure, it was a girl, but if she had the perfect chance to hurt him and chose a hug instead then, maybe, she isn't that mean or strong and he can relax. Relax he did, pushing his back a bit into Farrah. "A-And.. I'm Kouta. I don't mind you doing it, though you should still ask first." The young boy told her, slowly turning around so that he could wrap his own arms around her tightly, pushing his head against her torso so that he could continue to warm her. His entire body felt like it was on fire, thanks to the mixed warmth of joy and his own actual clothing.

To Farrah's surprise, the stranger turned around to face her and reciprocated her scarf invasion with a hug of his own. It was the first time Farrah had ever really locked up in a hug with a near complete stranger, but somehow it felt right, in spite of everything her mom had told her as a kid. Plus, this boy may be a stranger, but he was also as cute as a button. It was hard to imagine him being a dangerous person.
For these reasons, Farrah accepted the advance from introduction to hug, and the two ended up looking far more intimate in the street than if she had simply held his hand like the various couples were doing. Her cheeks had a rosy flush, though it was hard to tell if that was the excitement of the sudden embrace or just the cold. "Ha ha! Rest assured, next time I'll ask! It is worth a chance at rejection if in this warmth I may bask," she agreed, keeping the hug locked on.
Kouta was about as over-prepared for the cold winter climate as she was under, with countless coats and scarves covering his body. Farrah hated to bundle up quite so thoroughly... but the sight of how cozy he looked bundled up was making her reconsider that stance. "Kouta, hm hm... I'll remember your name! But your hair is also like a strawberry pink flame. It'll be easy to pick you out in a crowd, so I'll hug you again, if you're ever around!" she promised, being a big fan of the practice herself and not appropriately self-conscious to wonder what people would say.
Seeing Kouta's candy reminded her of a nice candy shop here in Musutafu. It was just a little far away, however... but now she was craving candy. Maybe she could settle on something closer by? "Tis the season for candy canes and chocolate! And seeing your candy has made me wish I'd bought it. In exchange for saving my hands from frostbite, would you like to join me on a candy excursion tonight?" she offered, giving a smirk that said "I just got my allowance and have enough squirrels away to buy you some candy" without so many words.

Honestly, the way that this person talked made Kouta so weirdly comfy and happy, feeling like it was a funny way of talking that would ease anyone's heart if they just took the time to enjoy it. She even seemed to be happy with continuing to give him a hug, so, obviously, Kouta just leaned in further into the hug, his arms tightening a bit around Farrah, his very warm, bundled up self sharing the comfort it had with her, listening closely to what she was suggesting. "Please do hug me again. Hugs are so nice, but it feels like people are so against contact.."
That made Kouta so endlessly sad, really. So many times did he want to hug someone and they'd just want distance, referring to something weird called "personal space" which, sure, fair. No one wants to be close to something scary or bad or threatening, but a hug is nice and friendly! It's shared between friends and people who just want to relax and share happiness, so why did they repeatedly refuse to enjoy a hug? "..Candy? You'll pay for me?" The small boy asked with a slight upturn of his eyes to stare at Farrah, the dark, thick voids within his irises staring directly into her eyes, the calm excitement and joy on Kouta manifesting through a light shuffling with the hug, still keeping close to her, head pushing a bit against her collarbone to get comfy, hoping that she'd be serious about it.
He even knew the place she was mentioning for them to go get candy and that place was awesome! Every sweet it sold was super good and impossible to stop gobbling up once he got a simple taste of it, so he'd obviously say yes! "Of course I'll join you tonight!~ In fact, I'll join you right now! What's your name, though?" Kouta asked with a wide, happy smile, moving his right arm away from her for just a second so that he could lower his scarves, feeling troubled enough while talking due to them muffling him, going the extra step to take one of his off and, by getting on the tips of his toes, gently wrapped that fluffy, warm thing around Farrah's barely protected neck, allowing her to feel the boy's leftover warmth, working to help her neck warm up faster.
"Here! You looked so cold and I just can't stand to see your neck exposed!" The boy giggled a little, letting go of Farrah so that he could stand next to her instead, his left arm still tightly holding onto her, now able to walk to the store she had in mind without having to stop sharing his warmth with her. As long as she enjoyed it too, Kouta wouldn't stop.

"D'aw, people get shy with their personal space. But a hug always bring a smile to my face," Farrah agreed with her new friend, returning the sentiment. Truth was, when she was younger, she'd hugged everybody... but at some point or another, she'd learned that not everybody reacted so positively to it, especially as she became old enough to know better. Well, she'd sort of learned... that knowledge of social norms hadn't stopped her for using Kouta as a human-space-heater just a moment ago, after all. "It's especially nice when it's freezing like this! A momentary shelter of cozy kindness~" She let him settle into the embrace as deep as he wanted and gave him a chummy rub on the back, ignoring that even the couples around were starting to be distracted by the display of skinship.
The two could expound upon the joys of the lost art of the surprise friend-cuddle all night long, but they had a candy excursion to begin. "Oh ho ho! Now, that's a surprise! Usually my name hits one's ears before my form hits their eyes," she gasped. "Farrah di Prima, at your service! Now let's get some candy; we both deserve it!" As she began to dash off, she blinked twice, then smiled again in a slightly ditzy way. "Now I'm realizing, your name I'm without! I simply must have your name before we set out."
Kouta made it worth her while by offering her one of the giant scarves. "What a lovely idea! And oh, so snug! It's as though I'm wrapped in another nice hug," she sighed, rubbing her fingers along the length of the larger scarf before digging her fingers into it. She pulled him back in like a good chum and patted his shoulder. "We're going to get along as thick as two thieves! Two candy-gorged thieves, before either one leaves!" the poetess chortled, almost like a drinking buddy about to show her friend a night on the town.
A short stroll would take them to the snack parlor, which was a bit full, thanks to all of the people coming and going for the holiday season. Candy was in demand and whether Kouta or Farrah kept up their chummy lock of arms or not, they'd still be in close proximity thanks to the thick density of customers. "Chocolate or fruit? Bitter or sweet? With candy, half the battle's deciding what to eat," she mused, inspecting the few shelves she could manage to see from her current position. "How about you, my strawberry-haired friend? What sort of sweet would you recommend?" she questioned, standing on her toes for a minute and leaning back into the crowd to get a good look at a jar stocked high up... which turned out to be advertised as a pure cocoa mix, not the sort of thing you bought to casually chew on.

Hugging was the best thing and Kouta was very much happy that Farrah did actually agree. And no matter the looks and the "scandal" that even the young couples of the city would give them, Kouta continued to hug her for as long as he could, deeply enjoying the warmth and closeness that she allowed him to share with her. She seemed to like it too, so they were both very much happy, which was all that mattered to him. "Yup! Hugs stave away all the cold, right?~ We should do this more often!" Kouta spoke quite happily, almost too giddy by now, enjoying the funny poetry that Farrah used to simply speak.
And he'd stay there forever too, but candy was indeed important at the moment as well. Holding onto Farrah by one arm, the boy walked right next to her, super happy that she did enjoy his scarf as well, hoping that she'd keep it and give it a good life, just like he had done so far. He loved that scarf after all, it saved his neck from so many colds - but the warmest thing he could do for himself was share and make others happy, after all. "My name is Kouta! Itsuki Kouta, it's the greatest pleasure to meet you!~" The young boy greeted her happily, snuggling her a slight bit, still holding onto her arm, feeling like he was just a little boy latched onto his bigger sister.
Whatever.
As they got to the candy store, with people entering and leaving, he went inside with her, still holding onto that chummy lock of arms, taking a few moments to look around at the possible selections. He didn't really enjoy fruit candy, or well, he enjoyed chocolate candy a WHOLE lot more than fruit, but he also enjoyed both bitter and sweet stuff.. Oh man, it was super hard to choose, but eventually, as he finally got his mind set on something, he spoke happily. "Hmm.. Chocolate! Sweet chocolate and some more bitter gummies! Those combo so well, since they cancel each other out!" Kouta spoke right away, looking up at Farrah with a wide smile. He knew what he wanted and, honestly, he hoped that she'd like his choices too. After all, if he was to keep her as his new friend, he had to make sure that he made her happy, more than just hugs.
Though he loved hugs.
