Candy. It was a simple thing. A simple thing that made so many children behave. A simple thing that could ruin your life as an adult. She had bought a hundred of them, with only a dozen left. Lollipops. Kasey was not a patient person, and could barely let it dissolve for the flavor. Instead she had gotten into the nasty habit of chomping down on them in less than a minute. With so few left in her bag now, she was trying really hard to savor them, for her own good. They were all various flavors, but with so many eaten so quickly, they had gone without her tasting them. She had taken all of them by preference, leaving her least favored choices as her final twelve. Grape. She didn't hate it, but it wasn't as good as the other ones. She walked down the street with her long brimmed sun hat, her periwinkle dress and yellow slacks. Her shoes were nothing more than cloth, or some bandage wrapped around her feet. She had gotten used to it, and hadn't bought shoes for the past year. Besides, they were also handy to have in emergencies. Her rose colored bag was slung to her side, as she walked with the last cherry treat in her mouth. "I've gotta make this one last." she thought to herself. ~ 226 ~

Get up, GEt out. This is your wake-up call. We run this town and you can fight us all. She was in a good mood today.
It was a good day. The weather was nice; the sun out to spread its warmth on the suburbs of Musutafu below. The temperature was in the golden middle - warm, but not too hot; cool, but not too cold. It was on the threshold of utter perfection. And as the blonde lioness walked along the long sidewalk leading to the dorm, coming back home from a pretty decent jog to the beach, she couldn't find it in her to even entertain the thought of complaining about life.
Shit had gone pretty sour for her these past couple of weeks. At one point she even questioned why she was even in Japan to begin with. Her friends back in the states were still fighting the good fight, trying to climb atop a steep mountain that seemed endless, all while she was living the good life over here. Attending school, joking with friends, having fun. Being safe. She had trouble coping with that idea, her survivor guilt giving her this idea that she wasn't worth any of it.
And yet, after she turned seventeen, everything just... everything just pieced itself back together. For the first time in what seemed like a long, long while, Jaz was able to smile without feeling bad about it.
Jasmine was fixing her one pony-tail as she was walking down the street. She didn't dress for excess - a loose golden tank over a sports bra, slim fit black khaki sweats and simple black sneakers. A refreshing breath left her as Jasmine stopped in her stride, taking a moment to wipe some sweat off of her forehead. The muscles in her legs were burning a little; it had been a while since she broke a personal record for running distance, not to mention that it didn't take her all too long either. Clearly, the now-seventeen-year-old was improving physically, and that showed on her muscular-yet-not-disgustingly-so frame.
The teen took a brief moment of rest, going through her stretches all over again. The weather was just too good outside to be going home to homework. She was feeling pretty good as well so she figured another couple of kilometers wouldn't hurt. She could take a dip at the beach, too. That'd round the day off pretty nicely.
Though, unfortunately for Jasmine and the pink-haired girl who was innocently walking towards her from behind the blonde, Jasmine had been a little too eager. Clumsily, the female turned around and blew into a full-blown sprint, realizing too late that there was a person right behind her.
The blonde grunted when she hit her face first, a large sun hat flying into the air. The girl rubbed her forehead, "Shit, sorry. My bad," she said, glancing at the other girl apologetically, "You alright?"

Everything in her life had been going good. It didn't matter how much freetime she had now. She had gotten to where she wanted. Now she had a reach to the parts of the world she wanted to be, even if she didn't want to actually be there. She sucked on the remainder of her candy, thinking only of the joy of her brand new job. Soon, all of her volunteer work would end, and she would be perfectly satisfied. But in the back of her mind, she wondered about Japan. If they were getting more organized and well off, how was the rest of the world? Well, that was another question for another day. It was out of her hands. There was no sense worrying about their problems, while problems still existed here. After all, if they could make a change, so could they. "Y'kno, it's not that bad." She laughed a bit, with the candy slowly disintegrating in her mouth. Patience. That would be her first lesson of the day. She was happy for once, and she hadn't even told her brother the good news yet. Maybe that time would come soon. She even took the moment to spin around in her own bliss- " . . . Fuck." the voice of the spirit called out, almost as a warning. Kasey stopped to look before her. The sound of the crunch filled her ears as she fell to her knees. Her eyes begun to water. Her teeth crushing the candy at the impact. Her right hand went to cover her face as her left would ball into a fist to slam into her chest. The stick from the lollipop would be freed, only to be spat out onto the ground, along with the drips of blood. She looked forward to see the other girl, spots of blood on her forehead as she tried to gather herself as well. Kasey would rub her eyes with her free hand, while she held her nose. With a twist with her right, she would snap her nose back into place and let Setsuna do his magic. Blood would continue to drip, slower, but still a constant issue. "Are you okay?" she asked, "I'll be fine. Is that your blood or mine?" she would lift her hand to point at her forehead. Surely, she had not cut herself on Kasey's bones, right? ". . . I really should have been watching myself, I'm sorry." she would say, apologizing. She had felt as if it was all her fault. She was so caught up in her own joy . . ~ 436 ~

Get up, GEt out. This is your wake-up call. We run this town and you can fight us all. Maybe she uh... hit harder than she thought? She was sure the damage wasn't that bad but uh... did this girl just crack her nose? Wait, the fuck? Did Jasmine actually break her nose with that? How the fuck- "Yo, are you alright?" Jasmine asked again when she noticed how much blood was leaking all over the place, getting a little worried. All she wanted to do was go for a run. But, of course, life has its ways of fucking with you. And, in this case, Jasmine just broke some poor girl's nose by complete accident.
"What the fu- don't-. What??? Don't apologize. I'm the one who bumped into you!" Jasmine said quickly, confused out of her mind. She crouched down to be on eye level with the pinkette and cupped her cheeks, trying to asses the damage, "Fuck. Do you have a tissue or something?" This entire situation was just so damn weird. Looking at the girl's nose, it didn't look broken. So why the fuck was it leaking so much blood? Shit made no sense whatsoever and Jasmine's head had trouble processing all of it.
Was this a quirk or something? It was possible, but... no. Just no. This crap made her head spin.
And it was such a nice fucking day, too.

Cartilage. It was one of the few things her body could not change or manipulate. She would be able to regrow it, allowing it to heal, but how it healed was not up to her control. Instead, she had resorted to replacing some of her cartilage with rather thin, soft pieces of bone. She didn't have any physical problems with them yet, at least, not until today. Her nose had shattered into pieces. She simply have to put them back into place and allow Setsuna to reform. But that did not heal the cuts that she had created. At least, not yet. Kas has plugged her nose, holding both ends shut. Either nostril would get air, not until the bleeding as stopped. She would have to suck it up and drink her own blood for the time being. But that wasn't a new taste to her anyways. She had lifted her hand to stop the girl from getting any closer. Kas would get up on her own, and away from the girl. She would lean her head back as she stood back up and reached into her red bag. She would grab a napkin and place it in front of her mouth before looking at the girl. The white napkin would cover the lower half of her face, but still, her smile would be seen. "It's fine, really!" Kasey would say, "I was lost in my own world, y'kno, got the job I wanted and everything." her eyes would still begin to tear up, not out of sorrow, but out of the sheer pain of her nose fracturing. She took a deep breath. "I'm Kasey." she reached out with her left hand, which was covered in bits of her own blood. She would look at it, only to wipe the fluids on her plain white dress, staining it. She didn't seem to care at all. Again, she would hold her hand out, but not as far. As if to say, "I'd shake your hand, but I'm kinda gross and covered in blood right now."Look at her, speaking to actual people for once, and not plants. They grow up so fast. ~ 361 ~

Get up, GEt out. This is your wake-up call. We run this town and you can fight us all. Uhh...
What...?
Jasmine could only blink dumbly, the entire chain of events that had been transpiring in front of her only serving to confuse her. Clearly, the girl was in pain. And while her trying to ignore it was admirable on some level, it was also pretty stupid. And that poor, poor dress. It was so damn nice, too. The fuck.
Was this girl actually retarded or something?
"J-Jaz... Jasmine?" She ended up stating-asking, which wasn't entirely surprising how utterly confuse the blonde felt. She glanced down at the offered hand; she could just walk away. Sure she'd end up looking like a bitch, but this entire situation screamed bullshit that she would undoubtedly have to deal with in one way or another. Did she want to do that? Not really. Was she obliged to? You could say that. Inwardly, she sighed. First of all despite what this Kasey girl had said, this was Jaz's fault. The pinkette had done nothing but mind her own business until Jaz had the bright idea to go full sprint without being aware of her own environment. And... she couldn't believe she thought like that but, honestly? She felt like it was part of the responsibility of a hero in training to help people out, even if they said they didn't need it.
Poking her nose into other people's business... she'd have to get used to that one.
But, shit, frankly Jaz just felt bad for her. And that dress. Both were cute.
And so, despite her better judgment, Jasmine extended her hand and grasped Kasey's. Her grip was gentle but her shake was firm as the blonde offered a small smile, "So, uhm... yeah," her grip suddenly tightened a little. "We're getting that looked at. Normally I wouldn't be so forward about this but I figure you won't listen to me so... yeah. Not letting go of that hand until we get your nose checked out and get you some pain meds. Sucks, I know. But what can you do?"
Forcefully yet easily not enough to hurt the other girl, Jasmine tugged at her arm as she turned towards the direction of the nearest hospital, "Come on."

"No." the word fell from her lips almost coldly. For once, she did not speak lightly. It found its way past her prison of teeth and danced before the girl, wanting to be noticed. "I jsut came from there, besides, it will heal, I'm used to it, really." The napkin was doing a good job stopping the blood, but it would only last so long. Eventually, she would have to do something else. "You nit, this is why you wear those damn bandages." her voice of reason reminded her of her habit, and a habit that started for a good reason. She would kneel to the ground, reaching to her foot with her free hand. She would begin to unravel one of the cloth wraps around her feet, only to tear and tuck it in. She would pull it in front of her face, wrapping it around her head, holding the napkin in place. Even if it didn't hold out, the cloth bandage around her face now would have to do. She would worry about it later. It wasn't like she was far from home. She would tug to get released from the girl, and if she let go then all was well. Kasey would have to figure a plan to get back home and to her job the next day unharmed. But if she refused, Kasey would pop each and every bone out of their place in her arm, causing a flurry of gross and loud sounds. Each bone would dislocate itself turning her arm into a limp noodle until she would let go. If worst came to worst, she would leave without her arm. She would just have to find someone who was able to help her put herself back together. She wasn't worried about the bones, it was the muscles she was concerned about. "If it's that big of a deal, just make it up to me tomorrow or something." she would say. "I really should be going though."~ 332 ~

Get up, GEt out. This is your wake-up call. We run this town and you can fight us all. The girl's cold tone caught Jasmine a little by surprise. Then again she should've expected it. This is what she got for taking a page out of her roommate's book of I care too fucking much. Ugh. Luckily Jasmine never read the book on How To Care About People That Don't Want To Be Cared For, meaning she forcefully expunged the last fuck she gave through a sigh as she let go of the pinkette's hand. Sure, she felt a little bad for breaking the girl's nose but... if she refused help, Jasmine wasn't about to break herself trying to do otherwise.
"You... you sure you're okay?" She asked, yet the question seemed more like a statement than anything. "That looks pretty painful." With a slightly tilted head, the blonde lioness stared at the other girl with some curiosity as she went to work with the random bandage she had on her foot. Normally, a broken nose really wasn't anything to scoff at. Sure, you could ignore it for the most part, but Kasey really didn't seem like someone who fought through pain on the battlefield. She had 'readjusted' her nose back into place way too easily for a civilian, which she definitely looked like. Was it a quirk of some sort? The blonde hummed to herself. It was definitely a possibility.
"Uh... sure...?" She asked again, the entire situation seeming a little weird to her. What, was she now supposed to ask her out for a 'sorry for breaking your nose' coffee? Sure, she's done weirder shit, but this was just... fucking weird. She didn't even mind her own lack of vocabulary on account of how weird this was.
"You need me to walk you home or something, at least? It's uh... the least I could do, I guess."

She really didn't want the girl to follow her home. She didn't really want to be caught up with her anymore. But still, she was drawn to her. But why? "Could have been worse. I've been worse, I'm okay, really." she would continue to step away from her, walking backwards. Her bandages would stick to the gravel and begin to trip her up, causing her to stumble. She would let out a small yelp as she did so, just trying to remove herself from the situation. It would happen a few times, before she would land right on her ass. She would sit there, a bit confused as what she should be doing in the situation she was in. She really didn't want to stay, but she didn't really have anywhere else to be. "I'm fine I'm fine I'm fine I'm fine . . . " she would mumble to herself. She wasn't sure what to do exactly anymore. Maybe she would run, or maybe she would stay. Either way she needed to figure what she wanted, before she could figure what she was able to do. She didn't want to hang out with the girl, that was for sure. And she did want to be better for work the next day. She wanted to drink. That was what she wanted. ~ 221 ~

Get up, GEt out. This is your wake-up call. We run this town and you can fight us all. What the hell is wrong with this chick? Jasmine thought, looking confused as she raised a brow in wonder. Is she autistic or some shit? The way the pinkette was reeling back from her made Jasmine think Kasey was scared of her. Like she was under some kind of mystifying illusion that the blonde was going to hurt her in one way or another. She had seen it before. Back in New York, lots of kids with traumatizing pasts had it - they were scared of human contact. The mere idea that somebody was genuinely concerned for them something that they simply couldn't comprehend. They naturally assumed that whoever showed even an ounce of empathy was out to use them in one way or another until they were spent and useless.
She had seen it. And she had experienced it herself. It wasn't a pleasant memory, nor was it a pleasant feeling to have. Heck, even watching this girl Jasmine was reminded of how cruel the world could be, even though she probably had nothing to do with anything of the sort.
The blonde stopped her train of thought there, reminding herself that she had no place judging somebody based on nothing more than appearances and the few words that they traded. It was a strange thing, really. You could never know where a person was coming from. Nobody knew where Jasmine herself came from, and all of them judged her as being some kind of stuck up blonde prima-donna just because she refused to associate herself with people and events that had absolutely nothing to do with her nor interested her in the slightest. All of this social butterfly bullshit was getting on her nerves.
The sixteen-year-old heaved a tired sigh as she crouched down, her forearms on her thighs, helping her balance herself. With a tired expression, Jasmine graced the other girl with a gaze that, paradoxically, betrayed both empathy and apathy, as much as that was possible. She cared for the pinkette, but mostly because it was her own fault the girl had a broken nose in the first place. And her care wasn't something that was never ending. Frankly, Jasmine had been reaching the bottom of the list titled things I give a fuck about in this particular situation. The mere fact that this girl was being so damn difficult was starting to annoy her and... honestly? Jasmine didn't want to be there anymore just as much as the pinkette wanted her gone.
"Alright, so, clearly, we got off on the wrong foot." She pointed to the girl, "You're Kasey," she pointed to herself, "I'm Jasmine." She pointed yo the girl again, "You have a broken nose," then to herself again, "I caused it." Kasey, again, "You don't want my help," and, unsurprisingly, herself. Again, "I want to fix the shit I caused."
"But, well, obviously this shit isn't going the way either of us want, so how about you tell me if you want me gone and I'll just fuck off somewhere I can do... something. Otherwise we can see about getting you cleaned up because, girl, look at yourself. You look like a hot mess." Jasmine stood up again, another sigh leaving her lips as she dusted herself off. This whole situation could be rounded off as being just one grandiose fucking mess. All Jasmine wanted to do was exercise, get a little bit of a jog in. But, as was per usual lately, lo and behold something came out of nowhere to screw her day up in a way she hadn't expected at all.
"So I'd appreciate it if you could make up your mind right now because I'm at the end of the list of fucks I'm legally supposed to give here, Kasey."

Kasey, hated people. People never so much as gave her coin to feed herself properly on the streets. She had resorted to petty thefts and eating out of the trash to live. On occasion, bakeries and restaurants would toss out good food as she happened to be close by, and she was able to get a proper meal. Money was meaningless in her life. She had learned to live without it. But the people who had extended their hand to her, to feed and shelter her... it was no home. It was a prison. She listened to the girl's words. When she explained it like that, it was kind of hard to argue. It was right for the most part. But Kasey would still be on the floor, seated as she had done before in the past, but instead, fear did not fill her heart, instead it was confusion. "No no! look!" she would take her right hand and place it under her left elbow. She would extend her left arm as as demonstration. "Kasey can fix, I swear!" and she would punch her own elbow, breaking it, causing her arm to bend in the completeoppositefukcing direction. She would then take her right hand and put it back into place. Her joint would snap and rebond itself back together. What she was unable to do, was fix all of the small cuts she had caused with her shattered bone, just as her nose was. Both were structurally sound, but both had been the direct cause of a wound, and would bleed until all of the other tissues were back together. "I don't think legally we're allowed to fuck in public..." she would say, "Plus we just met, and I'd just get blood all over you." she would speak, trying to step back up. The girl was harmeless it seemed. But for how long? How long would it last? Maybe she could actually get her to pay for food, that would be a good idea, but she could also make her way far from her, and do her own thing. "The fuck are you on?" Setsuna would ask her, a thought that was long awaited while it all unfolded. "You're Jazi-min, right?" she would repeat, even though the girl had just told her, "And you want to break my nose again? Are we fighting now?" she would scratch her head, ". . . wait are we even allowed to use our quirks in public.. . OHSHITNOWEARENT." Immediately she would panic, "JAZI-MIN, I DON'T WANNA GO TO PRISON. I JUST JUST WANNA GO TO THE WORKS."And like that, her worries were shifted. ~ 604 ~

Get up, GEt out. This is your wake-up call. We run this town and you can fight us all. Y'know... in retrospect? Things could always get worse. Always. It was like some kind of unwritten law. No matter how bad a situation was, there was always some way for it to get bad. She remembered the term one of her friends once mentioned. Murphy's... law? Yeah. That was the one. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. And, well, things were already plenty wrong. A broken nose and a god awful mess. But then apparently it got worse. Worse to the point that Jasmine had actually got lost for a brief moment.
"Jazi... min...?" The blonde repeated, a little lost for words at the complete change in demeanor. Oh and then she broke her own arm. That was neat. Neato. Utterly neato. The blonde barely managed to resist the urge to recoil, feeling utterly shell shocked. She just broke her arm. This dumbass actually broke her own arm to prove some kind of point. Oh, wait. Now she was shouting. Wait. What? What the fuck was she saying? Jasmine didn't really give a fuck about the people around them, their faces utterly horrified at the display of a mutilated limb and, well... apparently now they were calling the police. So that was now a thing.
Well, fuck.
"Yeah? Well then we better get the fuck out of here. Otherwise both of us are going to jail. Fuck that noise," she said. If Jasmine looked like she was completely unfazed by the act of the girl breaking her arm, then she was doing one hell of a job hiding it. Sure, she had seen a lot of shit way back when, but seeing an arm being utterly disfigured wasn't something that a person could possibly get used to.
"Can you stand? We really need to get out of here."

Police. Crime. Prison. That was how they worked. They worked together. Clean. Money. Friends. That was what happened. They came together. She had forgotten the corporation for that moment. She forgot that all and any of the cops that would show up, were working under the payroll of another corrupt man, the same man she worked for. The man who had any and all foods she wanted. The nice man who liked dinosaurs. "Child, you must stand. Go with her." The voice of a demon spoke to her, and she would stand and obey. "This is no time to consider using Sato's help."And she remembered. She remembered that there was nothing to fear. There was no reason to be scared. This girl could not kill her. The cops would not take her away. Evil could not be done to her. People protected her. She was the most important person. She was the school janitor. "Lead the way." she would speak, calmed, relaxed. Wherever the girl would go she would follow. There was no way she was an evil villain. No, she was kind, she was willing to help. If she was one of those people she would have left her behind. She needed to learn to accept the help. She needed to accept it. . . "The scientists are dead, Kasey. You don't need to worry about them anymore." again he spoke to the girl, his commentary on her life locked to her mind. It was comforting, coming from the person who had murdered all of them. But it was her life. It just worked that way. ~ 268 ~

Get up, GEt out. This is your wake-up call. We run this town and you can fight us all. Okay... so suddenly this girl just up and did a 180. Yep. Totally normal. It wasn't like she totally lost her shit and broke her own arm for fuck all of a reason. Nope. Everything was a-okay. Yeah.
What the fuck even was this chick?
Deciding to not question it just in case Kasey randomly decided to break her own neck for fuck knows what kind of reason, Jasmine simply nodded. If there was one thing she had learned over the years it was to never question the decisions of people who pretty much anybody would fairly easily label as bat shit crazy. It wasn't her business. Nope. She wasn't some kind of psychiatrist. The fact that she was still there with her - even though she sure as fuck didn't want to be there anymore - was enough.
For a brief moment Jasmine's first instinct was to grab the girl's arm and drag her over to a location far, far away from here. On second thought, though, the fair-haired teenager very quickly stopped herself. The last time she had tried to touch her, Kasey ended up breaking her own arm. So... yeah. Better avoid that.
"Alright..." Jasmine said, motioning with her hand to follow as she switched gears into a moderately fast jog, glancing over her shoulder every so often to make sure Kasey was still following her. After a good few ten minutes or so, the two of them found themselves in a random alley, closer to the markets of Musutafu. Jasmine stopped to catch her breath, glancing at Kasey to who, if she followed, Jaz would ask, "You alright?"

She would have followed, mindlessly and obediently. There was no reason for her to fight back, the demons in her mind were all of her past. Pieces of it locked away, meant to never be remembered, until now. "Yeah I'm fine." she would say ripping the bandages off her face. She would drop it onto the ground, only to touch her nose to make sure she put it back together this time correctly. "I just kinda, hada flashback I guess." she would say it, without having the need to explain herself. She was now in an alley with a girl she didn't know. Was it time to head back home? She needed to go to work tomorrow, so she wouldn't have that much time to mess around. Was she planning to keep her around? Maybe she was a student and she too would have to go to school. There was so many questions, and little to no time to find the answers. Or well, she had all of the time to answer them. But she didn't care for a single moment. She was sticking around to see where her adventure would go. After all, her life was simple. She didn't often get moments like these. ~ 205 ~
