The small city of Komae, Tokyo in Japan is host to several quirker gangs, to the chagrin of ordinary citizens. They vary in their degrees of influence, stated goals (if any), and gang activities. These gangs are united by only a few features: they inspire quirked youths to gather together and oppose the law, and, of course, they operate in a small enough sphere to avoid stepping on the toes of larger criminal organizations. These small factions butt heads on the daily but are rarely completely exterminated.
Below is a brief list, not all-inclusive, of some of the noteworthy quirker gangs identified throughout Komae, Tokyo's history:
The Gold Grip
The Gold Grip were at one time positioned to become the most powerful quirker gang in Komae and are presently recognizable by the gold neckerchiefs they don. Led by the intimidating Gold Daichi, a Japanese man so named for his permanently clenched golden fist, this faction muscled its way to the top of the ladder by directly assaulting other gangs, scaring them out of territory. Their activities included extortion and protection racketeering, as well as, obvously, turf wars. The faction's prosperity began its decline when Daichi entered a one on one confrontation with Hotarubi Deguchi of the striped snakes, an incident which robbed Daichi of his sight and part of his namesake hand, while also destroying the latter's jaw and throat. Without Daichi's leadership and aggressive tactics, the Grip has "lost its grip" as the other gangs are fond of saying and its territory has immensely declined, to the point that wearing the recognizable kerchief in Komae is asking to be jumped.
The Striped Snakes (disbanded)
Started as a group of teenage delinquents by one Hotarubi Deguchi, the Striped Snakes were recognizable by the distinct, striped clothing they favored as a means of showing their solidarity. The group's activities mostly consisted of vandalism, but also extortion, violence, and turf wars. The Striped Snakes, which Deguchi led into her young adult life, are most often remembered as good-for-nothings who turned their backs on decent lives in order to lash out at adults, society, or whatever had them aggravated at the time. What sprang from that was a group with one strength: its sense of loyalty towards its leader. However, the gang abruptly disbanded after a conflict between the Gold Grip's leader and Hotarubi Deguchi, which left the former crippled and the latter hospitalized. Word is that it was Deguchi alone who decided upon the disbanding, which her lieutenants enforced. There has been no word of the Striped Snakes in years, but the name and history continue to haunt the troubled career of Deguchi, now a political hopeful.
The New Fingers
When the Grip receded, the New Fingers moved in, taking control of much of the old territory; some joke that the Gold Grip fits the Fingers like a glove. The New Fingers are so named for two reasons: the first is their boss, a very young quirker named Arata Nakamarua, with the unique ability to execute others simply by sharpening his fingers and chopping their necks. The Fingers are recognizable by fingerless gloves they wear, in imitation of their boss. The Fingers activities include violence and theft, particularly targeting tourists and vulnerable targets in the area. So far, the gang has avoided the major pitfall of engaging in needless turf wars, and as such, has continued a mostly uninterrupted rise to prosperity, though they remain localized in Komae. A hot topic for all politicians in the area is how they plan to put an end to the Fingers.
