Mexico: Pro Quirk
———
JULY, 2068
Former featherweight champion and fresh politician Reuben Otez De La Mar has impacted his first term as president of Mexico with an interesting stance on the rising surplus of quirks. Several politicians are annoyed at this recent shift of power and how he has treated the over surplus of quirks.
During his run to obtain the election, The popular vote gave the new president the overall edge, with his serious yet calm personality managing to give him an edge in debates and public appearances. Recently coming under fire by opponents, he and his party managed to hold on despite all rumors and slandering, giving them the nickname of the "Fighting Party." So far, barring some few controversial budget shifts from opposing parties in the senate and his own party, Otez De La Mar's reception has been quite well received.
A recent incident involving a gazelle mutation quirk user and some officials rose Ciudad Juarez into a frenzy. Many claimed it was police brutality, while others started to push back other quirk users in a response. During a recent interview, Otez De La Mar and other members of the seat were given the question on the government's stance on quirks, a question that while asked and pestered throughout the election period, was set aside due to rising tensions. However, this statement managed to put the media into a slight frenzy:
"The tragic recent event that occurred happened between fellow citizens. Quirk or no quirk, they are citizens of Mexico. Simple as that. During my old run on the ring, I have seen many controversial decisions costing me and many other fellow boxers a good fight and a good friendship, quirk and no quirk. That has continued up until this point, diving cities and families apart. Currently we are looking into rules to help out all citizens. It does not matter if they can emit fire or summon an eagle."
This statement went on as Otez discusses their current plans to improve quirk relations within the country and to push this message to other messages. Some reporters attempt to latch onto a rumor that he wants to fight a quirk user on the ring, only for fellow senate members to push it aside. This pro-quirk attitude is slowly spreading its way, and while still meeting resistance, it hasn't fully gone away yet.
