The Shien family goes back quite far in history, with records of their existence being confirmed as far back as the Edo period of Japan (1603 to 1868). Not much is known about the family, besides their reputation as honorable and exceptionally skilled samurai and strict believers of Bushidō, or the way of warriors. To them, a sword was not a weapon meant to take one's life, but a tool used to protect others, defend one's pride, and battle with honor and respect. Their wills to protect the innocent were matched only by their impressive swordsmanship.
Throughout their lifetime, the Shien family would often construct many dojos. They were eager to not only hone their own skills, but to instruct and teach others the ways of the sword and Bushidō. They wished to forge the hearts of their students, helping them grow and become prodigious and honorable samurai. They were very selective of who they chose to teach, however, turning away those who only wished to learn swordsmanship for their own selfish needs and desires. To the Shien family, one who sought power but had no interest in using said power for honorable deeds and noble goals had no right to even step foot in their many dojos. This of course led to them gaining many enemies throughout the years. Despite this, the Shien family's resolve to persist was incredible.
However, the Shien family's fate would not be too kind. Several decades of fights, assassinations, disease, and the burning down of their dojos and schools would ensure that the family would eventually dwindle down and become obscure enough to almost completely fade away, their teachings lost to time, their accomplishments all but forgotten to history.
However, despite the hardships, the Shien family would do their best to endure whatever trials fate would throw at them. Their fiery will would refuse to allow them to die off completely. Even to this day, the teachings of the once proud family of honorable samurai lives on with the current head, Tenkabito Shien. Determined to bring back the teachings of his family, he had worked hard throughout his life and used the money he earned to open a sword school: Shien's Dojo.
Shien's Dojo is a traditional Japanese dojo located a few minutes away from the shopping district of Musutafu. Run by the old sword master Tenkabito Shien and his employees, the dojo teaches anyone who wishes to become a student there the many different styles of swordsmanship. All who come to visit are free to join as a student, spectate sparring matches, and even take part in one under very close and heavy supervision. Within the dojo are several rooms in which to train privately, a main arena to have sparring matches in with benches for spectators to see, a cafeteria, and a display room showcasing various models and replicas of swords and armor used by legendary swordsmen and samurai of ages past. Classes are separated by age, with children, teens, and adults each having their own separate class. Dojo hours are 8 AM to 8 PM Monday through Saturday, while being closed on Sundays and major holidays.
