The last few months have definitely been something else, and that was to say the least.
It all started to spiral the moment Jack had encountered his sister, Diane, for the first time in almost a decade. It was then that Jack discovered the kind of path his sister had started to take, and, to make a long story short, they had a bit of a falling out. That experience alone had left Jack a bit frayed, and it all seemed to kind of go on a downward spiral since then. His girlfriend up and leaving him, his own mental state not even remotely being helped by most of his classmates, etcetera.
There eventually came a point where Jack just said "Screw it all, I can't keep doing this." Since then, he made it a mission to just focus on improving what was damaged. While it has only been a few months, and of course was still by no means completely fixed, he had made some definitive progress. He started socializing more with not only his immediate friend circle but also most of the town of Musutafu as a result. He became more open, and his mental state has made a considerable improvement. There were still a metric ton of problems that still needed to be fixed, of course, but he was gaining the mental and physical strength to face these problems at a rapid place.
Who knew leaving a chatroom could do that to a person?
That said, now was one of those days where Jack's newfound socializing skills started to come into play. It was a day not unlike the day he and his sister reconciled, shiny and bright, with Jack carrying grocery bags on both of his arms. He had on his headphones, which contrasted with his new attire of a sleeveless, white jacket with a fur-rimmed hood, sleeveless red shirt, and black, baggy pants, with his usual jewelry and shoes. This outfit showed off the shining scales on Jack's arms proudly, almost like they were a symbol of his growing pride in himself.
He hummed along to the song he was listening to as he wandered along, looking at the stores and waving happily to all of the people he came across, who, knowing Jack well enough at this point, waved back kindly. People still looked at Jack oddly for his draconic appearance, but Jack started to find himself not caring anymore, after talks with friends and councilors helped remind him of that he shouldn't. He was a beaming ray of happiness, which by itself was a huge improvement to what he was before.
His long tail wagged happily as Jack window-shopped, wondering if he should buy a gift for someone, or just spoil himself a little with a treat. There was a new Capsule Creatures game coming out soon, so maybe he should pre-order it real fast, and get that sweet Type: Null plushy that he could have only dreamed of getting in the past? This was the kind of decision Jack loved to make, free of drama or random evil siblings to deal with. Today was going to be a good day, as Jack started to tell himself every day as of late. Who knows, maybe it could get even better!

It all began in a rather innocent manner. Back at home, after her parents and the hired help finished tending to the farm for the day, her father had entered the living room to notice his daughter was in a rather lively mood, her legs swaying up and down as excited muffled sounds came from her. He knew by now that whenever he heard those sounds, it was a sign she was having fun, kind of like the laughter someone might make. Walking over to the couch he spotted his daughter lying on her stomach, seemingly holding the tablet they had purchased for her birthday last year, and judging from how attentively she was looking at the screen, it was clearly showing something of interest to her. "Seems someone is having fun~ What are you watching Mel?" Hearing her father's voice Melinda sat upright and proudly displayed the recording that was on the screen. Her father recognized it rather quickly, the battle tournament of the Sports Festival at U.A, it seemed his daughter had been quite interested in the Sports Festival, and yet for some reason had declined the invitation to attend the hero academy.
"The sports festival? You really love watching that, don't you?" The girl nodded her head excitedly, the sparkle of liveliness in her eyes making the man smile kindly at her. He truly loved it when she seemed so happy, forgetting the hardships her quirk brought her. "I wish they had showed a bit more footage about your cousin." Her father's mumbling did not go unnoticed by Melinda who suddenly was perched upright, looking at him with a gaze that was so intense that it made him almost a little nervous. "Your mother didn't tell you?" He paused for a moment, the swift shakes of the girl's head making it evident she had not known about it at all. "Remember your cousin Jack? You two often used to play together as children back when we visited Texas for those family reunions." Melinda nodded her head attentively, and then suddenly turned around, grabbing her large notebook and scribing something on it, which upon display showed a little girl, seemingly based on herself standing on a higher elevation to give a taller boy a pat on his head.
"Haha yes, you did love to give him head pats didn't you?" The girl nodded her head, judging from the softening of her eyes and the muffled sound that came from behind the bamboo piece, he could have easily imagined his daughter to be smiling. "Well, from what I heard your cousin attends the hero academy in Japan."
There it was again, the mentioning of the academy made her suddenly bounce onto the sofa again, looking up at her father. "Umm... You have an appointment with Doctor Nimue tomorrow, right? Then why don't you ask if you can meet your cousin afterward?" It certainly was a plausible idea! and with that the girl had set things in motion. The next day, after her meeting with the doctor she had started her search for her cousin, but to her bewilderment, his classmates had told her he had gone out shopping, although it did take her a few drawings for them to realize what she was trying to say... then again, once she showed a picture of a dragon, it was clear who she meant! And so the girl had found herself now properly wandering on the trail of a certain dragon boy. Fortunately, it was not that difficult to recognize a Quirker with dragon-like properties, especially when Jack was window-shopping with a large dragonic tail swaying behind him.
Of course, calling out to him wasn't that easy due to her situation, and with all the people passing by she found it quite difficult to even reach him properly! The woes of being a small girl... so instead she went for the second-best option after her attempts to draw his attention with her waving hand failed. An attempt to reach for the sleeve of his jacket didn't earn a response, so instead, as if she was ringing a doorbell... she lightly tugged the dragon's tail and looked up at him, waiting for his reaction.
It seemed today was a day for family reunions.

Jack's tail swayed from to side to side as he happily received the pre-order bonus for the Capsule Creatures game. He hugged the plushie affectionately, happy to have another little guy to add to his collection. He got a bit of a curious grin from the worker that gave him it, making the boy's face flush a little. "What, I like this kinda stuff. Gimme a break!" he said, giggling. He then thanked the worker and promptly went on his merry way. He held the plush close to him, his much younger looks coming into effect as he got the attention of more people he walked by, but he didn't pay them any mind.
He put his headphones back on as he walked, delightfully becoming ignorant for a moment to the world around him. As he walked, he promptly went back to his thoughts, wondering about what other errands he should run. He could get Hye-Rin some extra cooking stuff perhaps? Maybe some tools for Yojin? Maybe he shouldn't just worry about it right now and look more into what some of his friends needed. It wasn't like he was trying to butter them up or anything; he just liked giving people stuff. It was honestly one of his more favorite things to do, and that was just making people happy. Within reason, of course.
In the middle of thinking, Jack could feel a rather startling sensation to him: it was a small, but highly noticeable tug on his tail. It sent a shocking but pleasant feeling throughout his body, and the boy's face turned red with embarrassment, and squeaked rather loudly in response to the feeling. At first, he was enraged, being quick to wrap his tail around his assaulter, who he could tell was already small and light, and lifted them with his tail in front of him. The boy had a bit of an annoyed scowl on his face for a moment, before he saw who it actually was that tugged his tail.
A little girl? Jack blinked in surprise, the scowl instantly fading, being replaced by a rather confused look. What was a little girl doing tugging on his tail of all things? She didn't look any older than 10, with her stark black hair and wide pink eyes. He questioned why she had a bamboo stick in her mouth as well, but he wasn't about to judge her on that. He was more concerned with the reasoning behind this. Did she think he was a Pro or something? Was she lost?
Jack took a deep breath, and exhaled lightly, any tension leaving his body all at once as he smiled kindly at the girl. He lowered her just a little to where she was at eye-level, looking partly embarrassed. "Sorry about that, little missy. You startled the heck out of me! A dragon's tail is their most sensitive spot when they aren't paying attention, you know~," he said, giggling lightheartedly at the small joke.
He was quick to set her down, kneeling down slightly to reach her level. "How can I help you? Are you lost? I was actually heading home myself, so I don't mind taking a small detour if I need to." He smiled widely and kindly at the young girl, not even remotely thinking that they may be related in any way shape or form. Nonetheless, he protective instincts were quick to kick in, wanting to make sure the girl was back safely with their guardian. Oh, how little he knew...~

The loud squeak that Jack made caused the girl to expect Jack to turn around. She knew all too well that the tail of the boy was rather sensitive when he wasn't paying attention, so to her it was the perfect solution to draw his attention. At least much better than yelling at him, something she couldn't do anyway. Feeling the dragon's tail coil around her waist like a serpent, she was easily lifted off the ground, her arms instinctively waving upwards. One might had thought she was holding up her arms in a surrendering gesture, but judging from the softness of her gaze and the muffled sound that came from behind her bamboo piece made it quite easy to also imagine her going 'wee~' and enjoying the lifting as if she was riding a rollercoaster.
The apologetic tone that Jack used to address her made the child blink in disbelief, little missy?! Sure, she was used to having adults treat her like a child, but Jack was only a few years older than her! Being lowered to his eye level the words spoken by Jack made the girl nod her head in affirmation to the revelation that a dragon's tail was the most sensitive spot when they were at ease. The girl lowered a hand to the boy's tail, patting it lightly as if to showcase she understood what he meant. Still, it was afterwards, when he set her down and asked how he could help her, that the girl tilted her head slightly to the side in a showing of confusion. Wait, could it be that he didn't recognize her? Certainly, it had been almost seven years since they had last met, but she could still clearly recognize the boy she had met all those years back in Texas! Shaking her head lightly in denial to the question about whether she was lost or not, the girl pondered about how to best convey her message.
In most cases she would have just showed her notebook and a drawing to convey a message, but she felt that this needed a different approach. Something which would surely get the dragon boy's memory refreshed. When he started to kneel down to reach her height, the girl gently raised a hand, trying to place it on top of his head and gently brushed her hand back and forth in light affectionate headpats.
It actually stirred a memory in her, of the older and taller Jack carrying her on his back while they played in the fields around the house. They did love to play that reenactment of a famous story about a dragon and his best friend, a human who had raised him from the moment his egg hatched. He would always play the role of the dragon, and after the family reunion, when a parting would happen she would always pat his head like this... and then the next year when they saw each other...
Slowly her hands reached for the red cloth that was wrapped around her jaws and connected to her mouthpiece and lowered it.
"W...We....Wel...Welco...Welcome... H...Ho...Home J.Ja...Jackie..." it was clear amidst the stuttering and gasps that it was difficult for her to speak, borderline impossible even and yet she tried so hard to give him their usual greeting. For Jack Orion's home was where his friends were, and with that pure and innocent smile dedicated to him, it was without a doubt that his niece was one of those people who cared deeply for him.
Feeling her quirk rapidly stirring, soft gasps coming from her as she tried her utmost to restrain herself, the child quickly wrapped the cloth back around her jaws and with the bamboo piece covering her mouth, she could feel the effect of the medicine already kicking in.

Well, something about what Jack had said clearly rubbed the girl the wrong way. The dragon boy's eyebrow's raised a little as the girl looked both confused and bothered by him calling her 'little missy'. The girl shook her head nonetheless, patting Jack's tail in understanding. A light purr emitted from the boy's throat as a result of the patting, the girl now being much more gentle about the prodding of his tail. He smirked, setting the girl down and kneeling down to her level, that smile of his never even remotely leaving his face.
However, the more he looked at her, the more his head began to hurt. Something about her seemed oddly familiar...he couldn't place it, though. It was like the memory was there, but something was blocking it. What was it, though...? Considering his already muddled emotions, purely because of his Quirk, and what he had gone through as a child...when he honestly tried to recall memories, he always found himself unable to unless he tried with all of his might. It was as if his own brain blocked out his past, as to not cause anymore trauma than it already had.
There was a small silence between the two for a moment, both of them trying to figure out how to go about this. The dragon boy narrowed his eyes slightly, and he pursed his lips slightly. "...Do...I know you...?" he asked, his voice small and uncertain. There was something he was missing...but he couldn't place it. He then blinked in surprise when the girl actually placed her hand on his head, patting him, almost like she were the older of the two, and she was petting her beloved sibling. The feeling felt good...but also familiar. The pounding in his head intensified, the boy clutching his head slightly.
However, the kicker was when the girl began to undo the bamboo strap around her mouth. Jack was about to speak up, already knowing that it probaby wasn't a good idea to do that. She had it on for a reason, right...? So why would she just take it off so suddenly? However, before he could say anything, the girl began to speak. He let her take her time, as the effort clearly hurt her. She wasn't mute...she was holding something back. Her Quirk, perhaps? Nonetheless, what she said shook Jack to his core.
"W...We....Wel...Welco...Welcome... H...Ho...Home J-Ja...Jackie..."
Jack was silent for a moment, his face a look of shock. It felt like a door was opening up in his mind, and memories began to flood forth. Most of them weren't exactly pleasant, as the memories of people tormenting him over the years were more than vivid. That alone made tears begin to form in Jack's eyes, his face looking like he was in pain for a moment. However, the memories of when his Quirk was still new, and his parents were still trying to figure out what to do with him...and the cousin that still accepted him, despite all of that, even though they had just met.
"...M...Melly...?" he asked, his voice cracking a little bit. A flurry of emotions surged through the boy, and he was quick to embrace his cousin, his head on her shoulder, silently weeping. He slighlty laughed, though he was shaking a little. "Sorry about that, cousin...it's been a long while, hasn't it...?"
