ASHES TO ASHES, DUST TO DUST It wasn’t the first time Sunaho had been to an art gallery. It was, however, the strangest one she’d been to. The entrance wasn’t advertised well. The door assembly of the shipping container had simply been spray-painted with the desired message. ‘Paintings Within - Speak to Mercury Rep for Price’. Though the words seemed to be somewhat welcoming, the pair of armed guards were much less hospitable. One was stationed outside, the other within the container itself. They didn’t bother Sunaho too much. She was well aware they would only give her trouble if she tried to swipe on of the paintings for herself. Which she had no intention of doing. Hell, she didn’t even want to buy any of them. Given her current living situation, purchasing one of these pieces of fine art would just be putting it in a position where it was liable to get stolen or damaged. Her appreciation for the paintings wouldn’t allow her to purchase them, strangely enough. As she entered the shipping container art gallery, Sunaho wondered when the last time she’d been to a gallery was. At least seven years ago, she figured. A much, much different time. The green-haired girl was different now; she even dressed differently. On this occasion, her attire was rather discrete. A brown bomber jacket, dusty jeans, shades and a cap, all to make her most inconspicuous. Could never be too careful, after all. Her Dust Devils had made some enemies, and she didn’t want to run into them while they were out shopping. It would be a pain in the ass to have to have to deal with them when she was just browsing, leaving her second-in-command to focus on the actual goods. Weapons and other supplies would be a big boost to their little group, so Sunaho was ready to capitalize on the auction. That said, it obviously wasn’t her forte, and she obviously was content to leave it to someone else, given her presence at this little makeshift art gallery… As she walked inside, earning the gaze of the armed guard, Sunaho let out a low whistle at the works within. Some of them were familiar, all of them were extremely expensive. They must have been stolen from some real rich assholes, Sunaho thought. That notion put a small smile on her face. The idea of taking the art from people who only bought it as some kind of symbol of status, or whatever other bullshit the wealthy had used them for… Walking slowly through the container, Sunaho stopped at one particular piece. It was familiar, very much so. Maybe she’d seen it before. She stopped in her tracks, her eyes fixated on it. When was it she’d seen the painting… Perhaps in her youth? During her days in Tokyo, when she’d had such luxuries as going to art museums. Sunaho wondered how she might have seen the painting back then, and thinking that… Could see why she’d remember it. She could see why the younger, emptier self, could have noticed it. There was nothing there, after all. Sunaho glanced around a moment, wondering if anyone else was looking at the art. She was starting to wonder if she really would leave without buying anything... MADE BY ★MEULK

Otome❖Kurokami ❝It's not always what it seems❞
Otome never asked for it. Her usual contact who would hook her up with jobs reached out to her one day with a spare invitation. They said something about taking this chance to do a bit of networking. Apparently she had been trusted enough to be welcome to these sorts of things. Now she'd be lying if she said that it didn't pique her curiosity a bit. As much as she loved her "normal" life, it was her hobby that helped keep her mental state "stable" so to speak. But she had always been on the fence about stepping in further into that world. This was a chance to see more without actually doing so for work. Unfortunately it wasn't the kind of educational trip she was hoping for. Weapons, technology, and other similar supplies - basically it was a whole lot of things that she had little to no interest in as far as the eye could see. Of course it's not like she didn't read the pamphlets and didn't expect any of this. But maybe she was hoping to see other things up for auction. Still she found it impressive that they could have this sort of set up in the city. Whoever was behind it must have some good connections with the higher-ups. At least that was the best explanation she could think of. After walking around for a bit, it was a breath of fresh air to finally see something for sale that couldn't be used to kill someone. Now Otome wasn't much of an art person. Most of the knowledge she had on the subject she gained from reading books. She never actually visited art galleries of her own accord outside of school trips. What she liked best about them was the atmosphere, quiet and peaceful like a good library. But in all her years she hadn't really seen any pieces that spoke to her. Art was something that drew an emotional response and for a girl who fabricated her emotions most of the time, it wasn't hard to imagine why nothing really clicked. She headed towards the container anyway thinking it would be a nice change of pace. She drew some gazes from the guards assigned to the place as she casually stepped inside. It wasn't surprising. Long dark straight hair and a pitch black sailor uniform was as eye-catching a combination anywhere, even in her own school. To top it all off she was even wearing a kitsune mask. Yes, today she was strolling around in her villain attire. For her this entire event was like a job and so there was no reason not to assume her villain persona. Besides walking around the auction area for a while, she was hardly the most unusually dressed person around. At least for those who decided to go around in their villain outfits too, she was still on the tamer side overall. It would seem she wasn't alone in the gallery. Another more casually dressed individual was already there having a look. At first glance the girl didn't seem like someone who would appreciate art, but it wouldn't have been right to judge people based on appearances. The girl appeared to be fixated on one of the pieces. That level of attention alone meant she was already ahead of Otome in the art appreciation department. Otome would nod politely when the other girl glanced around and met her eyes for a moment. Well not directly since she was wearing a mask, but it would be obvious that they saw each other. Otome would continue to mind her own business however and not feel inclined to make the first move with regards to introductions. She wasn't interested in the girl any more than the paintings around them. At least not at the moment.

The display of art and the variety of items set about likely to be for sale in the coming auctions in one form or another. The variety was quite a wide range of forms of art from the classics, Modern, and things of all sorts of twists and styles that could surprise and amaze anyone really moving among their selection. This place was one of many locations deep in this seedy underbelly of one of Japans worst districts and areas. He almost found it hard to believe how so much likely illegally owned if not likely stolen pieces could be put on display so brazenly. He felt himself lost in observation though not really all that far off from the other two women. His looks didn't really make him stick out though all that much. He seemed unseeingly average if any word had to be used to describe him. His hat pulled low as tired dark ringed eyes peered from under the bill of the hat. His long dark green coat hiding most his body of average height. Nothing of him really stuck out or would send the image of villain or great power like so many others in such a place that wondered around looking for their prizes to plunder or buy. He seemed to simply observe curiously a painting, likely a reproduction as he guessed quite a few were in such a place. But even so... Finding one of them in a place such as this. It had simply taken back in a long gaze upon it as if entranced. His chest and reactions so still it might have looked like he wasn't even breathing. It simply took the energy from his body as he felt the kindred sensation of something so familiar that he'd adopted into his life long ago when he'd taken to this path he now walked coldly and cruelly alone. It wasn't so much that he wanted it that... he could feel it.

ASHES TO ASHES, DUST TO DUST Sunaho had expected to sight some strange individuals in the makeshift art gallery. After all, art enthusiasts and career criminals were two of the strangest groups of people on the planet. Some kind of intersection between the two groups was likely to be suitably bizarre. The green-haired woman's suspicious were confirmed when she layed eyes upon a striking woman with hair black as night. It streaked down, long and majestic, framing a face masked by a standard depiction of the Japanese fox spirit. The kitsune. To top it all off, she was wearing a bizarre black sailor uniform. Classic, Sunaho supposed, but it wasn't really her style.
Dressing like a schoolgirl wasn't really her scene.
The other woman nodded politely towards her, the much more casually dressed Sunaho huffing lightly in amusement. "Y'know, I skipped school once to visit an art gallery too. Think that was a bit different." The gang leader joked, glancing down at the raven-haired woman's serafuku. It was merely a teasing gesture, of course, as Sunaho wasn't as quick to judge someone who was simply enjoying the same art she was. Looking back at the piece she'd been fixated on, the woman spoke up again.
"Nice piece, ain't it? By a Polish artist, I think. Saw it in a gallery once, guessing it ended up here thanks to a half-decent thief." That wasn't to say that Sunaho had any problem with the idea of art theft, however. A piece's value wasn't determined by how many brainless idiots gawked it at, nor by the amount of many rich assholes were willing to shell out. Reappropriation and redistribution was, to her, a perfectly fine way to break the spiritually devaluing cycle that art pieces got caught up in.
A brief glance to her side caught the only other viewer within the gallery. A man who was dressed even more plainly than she was. He looked almost unsettlingly ordinary, though, perhaps that was the point. He too was fixated on a painting, though a much different one from them. His eyes were piercing into a grotesque depiction of some kind of... Well, Sunaho didn't know what it was. It made her feel somethin' though.
"That ain't a bad piece either." Sunaho spoke up to the odd man, gesturing towards the creature he was so fixated on. "Dunno who the fuck it's by, but there's definitely some talent there. Looks like... What, a demon?" Her manner of speech wasn't particularly smooth or polite, but it was just fine for striking up some conversation with some fellow art enthusiasts.
Well, the closest things to art enthusiasts there.

Otome❖Kurokami ❝It's not always what it seems❞
The other girl's attempt at striking up a conversation was welcome. Otome was here to somehow engage in networking after all. In her head, someone who was knowledgeable in and could appreciate art was probably a person of class, despite how casually dressed they were. Otome was the pretentious one here. Though even if she wasn't wearing a mask she could still be perceived and staring intently at the paintings and other works. Feigning interest in things she personally found mundane was a useful skill. "There is no school today, else I wouldn't be here. Believe it or not, my attendance record is spotless."She would respond in a joking tone even though that was actually the honest to goodness truth. Villainy as a hobby meant she really prioritized her "normal" life over jobs. Today was no different. She only accepted the invitation because she was free and didn't have any other obligations. "I see. So you're certain it's the real thing? I've never had a good eye for counterfeits and reproductions."She didn't have a good eye for art period. But it doesn't hurt to learn a bit from someone who did, especially if they were willing to talk without being asked. The piece was peculiar to say the least but she could see how it could evoke some philosophical thoughts maybe. Or whatever symbolism of the lack of a face the artist was going for. Otome wouldn't know. There was another person present whom the casual girl would engage with as well. The work he was looking at was more on the grotesque horror side. Was this abstract? Those fancy art terms whizzed around her head however she only had a vague understanding of them. Truly she was a fish out of water here. But it didn't feel right to just say nothing. She'd play the amateur fool for a while longer. "It evokes very different feelings from the other painting for sure. But I'm not too great at putting it into words."

He blinked a couple times as he pulled out of his mild focus and trance from staring. Feeling a slight rush as he pulled back into himself so to speak. All of this giving little to no outer showing though as to the woman it would simply look like the man blinked and turned to face her. A small mild smile on his lips friendly enough as one might expect. When he needed to be he had a way of mimicking most emotions as needed to avoid any harm or problems when he wished to avoid such things.
"It's a demon," Answering her question briefly. "I imagine it's a replica to b e honest, But it's a piece or perhaps the subject more so that's always had a interest to me. For a price it can grant many things to those that seek what it can offer. Not so much evil as simply benevolence perhaps more so. I suppose it all depends how you view things." He'd say simply enough not diving into to much detail. His body language all the while rather disarming and his way of speaking only coming off as tired. He wouldn't really seem like someone that really belonged in such a place as a lower district like such a place and coming sale like this would have to offer.
The other one spoke to shortly after, He didn't show anything beyond his small smile and tired weary eyes. Looking simple enough and as kind as any other soul. Although just as he knew there stories likely were more then they let one they must have had a inkling he felt as well to know better then simply trust his face value signs. After all in a place like this?... No one was likely what they appeared to be.
"It seems they have many pieces of different styles here. But I suppose given they intend to sell much of what they have I can imagine it's to reach a wider set of buyers. They don't need to abide by the normal rules of a gala since they aren't going to remain here for long." He'd say in some speculation of how he believed it to be to say the least.
