Tick tock tick tock,
The sound of the clock's relentless ticking was a rather suitable representation of the situation they found themselves in. Time waited for nobody, and just like time, there was no chance for anyone to stand still, life always went on, and there was always need to walk onwards. This peculiar situation with Yusaku and Goro Utari was no exception. Fortunately, after long deliberation and discussion among the principal, Spymaster and even some government officials it was decided she was given a chance to carry out her plan.
It was, after all, the type of work that a Spymaster needed to master, and if she wanted to succeed him she would be required to gain this type of social skills also. With Yusaku's help, they had learned that the robot boy tended to often meet up with Goro at a hotel on the outskirts of Tokyo, and as a result, she had decided to carry out her plan in this location, after all a familiar place would make Goro hopefully a bit less restless.
They had been at one of the hotel rooms, actually, it was a suite of sorts, and so far there was just her and Yusaku, although the latter had already informed Goro of their meeting, and the robot boy's intention to have him meet a friend. Of course, she had not gone without precautions herself, her master's kunai was safely stashed in her pocket, and if things went wrong she could easily alert Spymaster who was hiding in a nearby room.
Although a part of her hoped it wouldn't come to that, she knew all too well that Yusaku would likely come to the defense of Goro if their meeting escalated into a conflict, a part of the reason why she was hesitant to allow Yusaku to come along, but he was an essential factor in her plan to convince Goro. Just tricking him into meeting her by herself would be a bad idea for sure, after all her psychological lessons taught her that in a case like this she needed to make sure that Goro didn't feel like a cornered animal, after all, everyone knew an animal that was cornered would become very, very violent if it felt it was in danger.
"Yu-kun" Elise called out calmly to him, dressed in a somewhat casual attire made up of a long pair of jeans, a vest with a stylish logo of a popular anime character and a blouse underneath it, with a light jacket covering all of her upper-body. "I just want to tell you, but if Goro-san does get violent for some reason, try not to intervene outside of calming him down verbally. I assure you that should he become agitated and attack, I will try to only restrain him till he calmed down, but the last thing we need is for you to get into even more troubles by having aided a villain in an assault case, right? Then again, if what you said is correct, we might not even need to worry about such a theoretical situation."
She paused for a moment, looking at the clock, yep Goro would be arriving any moment now if he was the type of person to get here on time.

"It won't be easy." Yusaku dryly replied. "The moment he notices you he won't trust me anymore. I will have an appeal to the feeble bond we share and hope that is not shattered the moment he comes in here."
The robotic cat chuckled nervously. "My life is already destroyed. That said, I won't allow him to lay a finger on you. Should I have to pin him down myself. If Spymaster comes in here, it's over. Oh by the way, I can tell you don't trust me either. That's fine. But this is where your plan ends and I step in. The only reason I do this is to save Goro. After that, feel free to recycle me."
It was nearing showtime. Yusaku was beyond distressed. He had never felt this way before. He was forced into this situation and the only thing he could do is pray Goro would somehow someway come to terms with him.
It dawned on the catbot that he might need to use his DNI. He...he did not know how it would go. He needed Goro to merge with him again. If he could get him to do that, he would be able to calm him down no doubt. But that was the problem. That and Elise being there having fun playing mastermind.
"Listen Elise. I might need to merge myself with him. It's my only hope to get him to belive me again if everything else fails. Please do not speak and do not intervene unless there is the absolute need. Even if he damages me. This is of vital importance. I know he most probably won't get violent. But this will be serious blow to his psyche. I don't need any more pressure that what I already have. "

When Goro had gotten Izumi’s message, telling him he wanted him to meet a friend, he was immediately on edge. He certainly trusted the kid a lot more now, but part of their agreement had been to bring as few people as possible into things. It was personal, for both of them, and Goro was already a little uncomfortable every time he remembered Izumi’s cousin in law was in on it to begin with. Every person added to the arrangement was a potential leak, a potential end to everything.
So while he’d come unarmed, he had his guard up. If it was a friend of Izumi’s, harming them would almost certainly compromise their alliance, so that was out of the window. They’d probably be a UA student, and he’d learned long ago not to underestimate them. He’d come dressed as normal, with his pilot suit uncomfortably hidden underneath his suit. His tablet’s absence was already making his anxiety mount, but it was a necessary precaution in case the “friend” was a spy. Instead, he’d brought a burner phone, one he was sure could access the villain chat if the need arose, but had no logs or sensitive information stored. The wing armour was also on, though retracted.
Every moment he spent in the elevator, every floor that went by, felt like an eternity. His stomach twisted into a thousand knots, his mouth felt as dry as the Sahara, and he’d grinded his teeth so hard that he had a headache. The metal doors in front of him seemed to blur and warp as sweat drenched the lenses of his glasses. Thoughts ran wild in his brain, horrid nightmare scenarios that he couldn’t dismiss or reason away as hard as he tried. What if someone had Izumi hostage, and would dispose of him the moment Goro walked through the door as he’d been but a lure? What if Izumi had willingly betrayed him, had never trusted him at all, had been a double agent working to turn him over to the cops this entire time? There was no way this was anything good, why would Izumi not just tell me who the friend was if that was the case?
A million possibilities played out in his head. An assassin, putting a bullet in his head right before he opens the door. The cops, apprehending him before he could turn away. Nick, taking one of the only things Goro has left. By the time the elevator deposited him on the right floor, he was half-way to a panic attack. It was hard to even use his echolocation, as the pounding of his heart in his head was nearly enough to drown out anything else.
He fumbled with the doorknob before finally managing to get the door open. What he saw on the other side was almost enough to make him slam it shut again.
Elise von Eisenberg. A UA student. The girl Nick had rendered comatose almost a year prior. The girl who’d made the news for saving the life of a quirkless soldier, a survivor of Semper Fi. Everything he’d feared was true. There was no way a girl like her was here to join them.
He’d been sold out.
The pounding in his head had overtaken anything else, and his lungs felt like they were filled with cement. He couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t see. He couldn’t hear.
He was frozen to the spot in the doorway, his hand in a death grip around the handle. The only movement he was capable of was trembling. In anger? Betrayal? Fear? Pain?
The next moment, he slammed the door shut behind him and stormed into the room, stopping just a few feet from the both of them. His wild eyes boring into Elise’s. “If you’ve come here to arrest me, go ahead. I’m unarmed. Alone.” He seethed.
“I hope you’re very proud of yourself, both of you. You,” he turned to Yusaku then, with a face somehow lacking any of the emotion present in his voice, “for manipulating me into placing my trust in you, for even briefly considering I was capable of friendship, and YOU-” back to Elise, “-for looking so pleased with yourself that you had the opportunity to do something like this. To turn someone’s only friend against them just so you can come out looking like even more of a hero. Well done.”
“So, how much have you told her?” And, again, back to Izumi. Goro’s voice had gone from a whisper to almost a hiss now, almost snake-like. “Just the basics, or did you go into detail? Did you laugh when you told her of my injuries, of how much I’d trusted you with, or are you so robotic you couldn’t even manage that? Or, I don’t know, maybe that’s not a robot thing, maybe it’s just what they teach you at that child soldier training camp you call a school, since she must’ve been fine with it too.”
His face remained stony cold, but his eyes were watering. The salt water ran down his cheeks and invaded his lips, filling his mouth. The minute childish part of his brain insisted this was yet another nightmare, that any moment he’d wake up, that the only thing that would remain a reality would be the cold wet patches on his pillow.
But he knew this was reality. Crashing down around him.

Elise couldn't help but turn her head slightly to the side, a gesture of confusion at Yusaku's statement that she seemingly didn't trust him. "Yusaku-kun, you seem to be developing an unhealthy tendency to jump to conclusions way too quickly. Do you genuinely believe that I would allow you to be here if I did not trust you?" She shook her head for a moment as she continued. "I do trust you, but I also know all too well the power of bonds. Friendship and love can make a person do unreasonable things during times of urgency, just like I wouldn't hesitate to cut down someone should they endanger Tetsuko, even should that person be a pro-hero, so would you jump in to save Goro-san, should his life be threatened, correct?"
She pondered quietly for a moment about the warning he gave her, about possibly needing to 'merge' with Goro. "Do you mean have him wear you? That should be fine..." She went quiet, and a moment later the door opened to reveal Yusaku's friend, the person they had been waiting for: Goro Utari.
A momentary pause followed as Elise's expression remained calm, allowing Goro to release his frustration in the form of slamming the door shut and then addressing the two of them. She had seen this coming, anticipated even that he would be frustrated, feeling cornered and betrayed. If there was one thing she understood after her medical education, then it was at times like this she would need to give him enough time to say his piece, and only afterward did she start speaking.
"Goro-san, please calm down for a moment. If I were to arrest you, do you believe the government would have send just a single girl who is still undergoing training to arrest someone of your importance?" She shook her head lightly in response as she continued. "You were not invited here as a villain but as Goro Utari, Yusaku-kun's friend."
She went quiet for a moment as she considered something. "Although I am pleased, because your presence here proves to be an opportunity." And then her calm expression changed in the hints of a softer expression. "As I mentioned, you are not here because you are a villain, nor am I here simply because of my affiliation to the hero academy."
She stepped away from Goro, turning her back toward him, a gesture of goodwill perhaps? As she stepped toward a table near the end of the room that contained a plastic bag she continued. "Since you seem to recognize me, you likely are aware of my profession: I am a doctor, and as a doctor I act with a slightly different mindset than heroes do. They have a certain creed, a code that comes with their profession, and as such should someone desire to genuinely be helped, it is our duty to reach a hand toward them."
She opened the plastic bag, seemingly containing several still closed soft drinks, a bottle of water and a bag of batteries. "But for a doctor to help, the patient needs to be willing to be helped. Which brings me to the current nature of our meeting. As you assumed, there were suspicions about Yusaku-kun's activities outside the school, which led him to be forced to confess his association to you."
She turned toward him, holding a bottle of apple juice in one hand, and a soft drink in the other. "In most cases it would have led to Yusaku-kun's arrest, and for you to be tracked down and detained by the police... but according to Yusaku-kun there was a chance for you to be saved, and as such I voiced my desire to attempt to turn his ambition into a reality."
A small step forward was made, her soft expression still showing quite a kind side to her, quite unlike the Shadow that was the leader of the disciplinary committee. "That is why you are here Goro-san, this invitation is an offer, a one-time opportunity, or in terms that might fit more with certain environments: a deal."
She stopped right in front of him, raising her hands to show the bottles to him. "Do you desire to get a chance to reclaim your freedom Goro-san? Give you an opportunity to escape from that treacherous pit you find yourself in? Certainly, there is no doubt your crimes can't be ignored or excused, something you are surely aware of, but if you desire to break free from that darkness, to start a new life alongside your friend here, please work with me and let us talk further."
She sighed softly, a soft hum following afterward. "Phew~ Despite the fact many consider me a chatterbox, I have to admit talking this much does make me thirsty, do you want a drink? I can reassure you that they aren't poisoned, although if you ask me to sample the apple juice first, I fear you won't have much left to drink."

Yusaku remained quiet, for now, as hell broke loose. This was the extact reason he did not want anyone to barge into his stuff.
He just stood there, staring at the ground, ears and tail drooping. One after the other. One after the other. He couldn't think it would be possible to hit this kind of lows. But there he was, repeatedly stabbed right in his feeble emotions again and again.
He remained silent and still. Took it all in. So...Goro did think him as a friend. He did manage to be seen as something else than a machine for once, even from someone who would probably be the last one to ever acknowledge him as that.
It hurt. It hurt bad.
"Everything I did...I did to protect you." Yusaku mumbled, with a volume not high enough to be heard if the other two were screaming at eachother. "This hurts me...more than it hurts you."
The robocat glanced once as Elise offered drinks to Goro, keeping an eye on both of them just in case he needed to step in. Raising a paw up, he rubbed his visor a little, probably to clean it up.
If either of the other two glanced at him, they would catch a glipse of his dark brown oil staining the back of his paw and his white fingers, right before the robocat would try and hide his hand behind his back...

Elise’s silence while Goro ranted was deafening. She may have been doing so to let him speak, but to him it just hammered in how smug she was. All he could see was some piece of shit kid acting holier-than-thou. Someone who thought he wouldn’t dare question anything she said.
“Do you think I’m an idiot? I watch the news, Eisenberg. I know full well what a UA student alone is capable of,” snapped Goro. “and I don’t believe that you’re here alone either. Unless you’re aiming to be expelled for vigilantism, there’s no way there isn’t someone watching us! But sure, go ahead. Try and convince me otherwise.”
Her turning her back on him didn’t help any. Did she think him so little a threat that she didn’t even need to watch him? Was she relying on her allies in the shadows, wherever they may be, in case he did try to strike? “You could at least look me in the eye, unless I’m not even worth that much.” He remarked.
He fell silent to let her say her piece, he had said he’d let her try to convince him at least and he might as well pretend to give her a chance.
As paranoid as he was, as unethical as he believed Eisenberg to be, Goro believed her when she said the drinks weren’t poisoned. “If you wanted me dead or incapacitated, there’d be more reliable ways than poisoning a drink.” He muttered before snatching the juice from her and chugging the entire thing. The juice was cloyingly sweet to his dry as bone throat, but he forced himself to swallow.
“Do you expect me to just accept your offer?” He asked. “I don’t know you. Every fact I have about you gives me less reason to trust you. I could be agreeing to anything as far as I know,” He waved his hand dismissively, “but let’s say you aren’t planning anything. I’ll take you at your word.”
He put the empty bottle on the floor, before he leaned forward, one hand on the bed and pushing his glasses up with the other. “If Izumi has told you anything, you should know that I don’t really have a choice in the matter. Do you really think I’d survive for even a day if I suddenly left the Underground? Izumi’s seen what the price for failure is for me, surely he’s told you.” As if to punctuate his point, he stretched his wings out, enough that the large scars near the base of each were visible.
Before he could say any more to Eisenberg, the motion of Izumi hiding his hands behind his back drew Goro’s attention. Even with his hands behind his back, Goro could easily hear the echoes of drops of oil smeared across his hands.
In his already heightened emotional state, the possibility that Izumi was injured or damaged was enough to send him into a panic spiral all over again. “Oh, oh my god, fuck, Izumi, are you okay?” He babbled out, as he tried to grab Izumi’s arm and pull it back in front of him. “Is something broken?”

When Goro told her to look him into the eye, she merely smiled as she turned around and answered him. "If there is one thing I was taught, then it is to never show your back to an enemy, the fact I turned should have been a sign that I do not consider you an enemy, and that I put my trust in your bond with Yusaku-kun."
As she approached him she answered one of his earlier statements. "Of course I am doing this with the permission of the principal and as you deducted, there is a failsafe in place which will only interfere if you were to get violent. Although getting me expelled will be hard, because I am a 'former' student. If anything my earlier words still stand: I am a doctor first and foremost and work as a hmm... consider it similar to a sidekick as a secondary role?"
A brief smile lingered as he watched Goro finish the drink and explained how he believed he could not survive a single day if he left the Underground. "You are correct, based on the intel I learned from Yusaku-kun's explanation, and my former interactions with your 'brother' I acknowledge that the environment you are currently in is one of an extremely high danger level."
She raised a hand to her chin, pondering quietly. "Which is why you obviously need help, if you were to try to escape the Underground without help, surely they would hunt you down and kill you, a thought that surely lingered in Yusaku-kun's mind also about why he didn't seek out any outside help."
Of course, the subtle gesture of Yusaku's arm and Goro's panicking reaction made Elise frown for a moment before realizing what was going on. "Is that from when you punched the wall?" She inquired calmly and stepped beside Goro, a hand gently reaching for his arm as she gazed up at the robot. "Can you shut down the flow of your oil to your arm for the time being? When we get back I'll see if we can't find someone that can help fix the damage. Unfortunately I'm a doctor, not an engineer so there is little I can do there."
Withdrawing what appeared to be a large handkerchief from her pocket she handed it over to Goro and stated calmly. "Can you please wrap it around the ruptured parts? I think Yusaku-kun will prefer it if you did it Goro-san."
It was only afterward, whatever decision had been made in terms of how to treat Yusaku that Elise turned back toward Goro. "But to get back to the earlier point, you clearly would need help if you were to try to break away from the Underground, help that fortunately can be provided."
She raised a hand to her cheek, a thoughtful pondering upon her visage. "You possess information Goro-san, information that would be incredibly valueable, surely with the right approach we could get the government to provide you asylum in return for your cooperation."
She paused for a moment, looking at Yusaku before continuing. "But for now that is enough about that, I primarily requested this meeting in order for us to get to know each other better, and for Yusaku-kun to get the opportunity to meet his friend without getting into troubles. Can you tell me a bit more about yourself? I assume that you were born in England also, how did you get involved with the Underground? How did you meet Yusaku-kun? There are so many questions lingering on my mind, but as I stated before: please think of me as a doctor and a friend of Yusaku-kun rather than someone who is affiliated with the hero academy."
She turned toward Yusaku and pondered for a moment. "Yusaku-kun, is there a way to minimalize your pain currently? As much as I want to get you straight to someone to fix you, I'm afraid I don't know any engineers personally and my healing skills likely won't help much..."
She though for a moment about something when suddenly an idea hit her. "What damage are you currently dealing with? Would it be something my quirk can help with? If the damage is inside the system distributing your oil, then liquidfying my slime and having it course through your system and harden in the damaged areas might be possible, then again I never been good with machines, so I might be entirely wrong here~"

"I'm fine I'm fine." Yusaku grubled, not really opposing Goro's attpet to take his paw in his hands. It was, indeed, slightly oily. "I repaired by paw before heading out. I guess...I dunno. I'd say these might be tears, but I can't really cry so it might only be a small leak due to all the pressure I've been through."
He patiently waited for Goro to wrap the bandage-thingy elise gave him around his wrist.
"Goro...listen. I know this must not be easy for you. It's not easy for me either. But...I can't see you slowly descend further and further down to hole. I..."
The cat robot clencehd his bandaged fist. "I care about you. I care about you alot. Since when I became a machine eight years ago...I've never been able to bond with someone so deeply. We...we're similar. Maybe it's because that I wanna save you from your slavers."
He paused for a moment, shaking his head to politely refuse Elise's slime oriented help.
"I could ask you to trust me like our first time together. I really want you to be happy. I really want you to...stay with me. But I understand that this situation we are in doesn't really lend itself to trust..."
Yusaku glanced at Elise. She knew him enough to know where this was going. He just hoped he would allowed to from both her and Goro.
"But there is one thing I can do to prove I'm on your side and I still want to help you." The robot placed his bandaged paw on his chest and tapped lightly, a sign Goro would recognize.
"I offer you my memories. I offer you to relieve any memory of mine from my point of view. You'll get nothing but the honest truth on the facts and events that led us three here rigt from my neural network. Well, my perception of them at least. You'll be able to scour anything you want inside my mind through a DNI connection.
But you know that to do that you have to wear me again. I...I kinda want to merge with you. Being worn by you would surely make me feel better. I've told Elise too. I don't know why but the two of us merged together feels...just right."
Yusaku let his paw move back to his side. His digital eyes had a glint of hope. He raised his good paw and gently placed it on Goro's heart.
"I don't want to lose you. You...you are like a brother to me. You're a connection I tried so desperately to create all these years. Please Goro. I don't want to go back to the way it was before. Can you please wear and merge with me for a little bit?"

“Oh, I’m sure.” Goro snapped back. Was that really how she thought it would come off? Or was she mocking him even more? At least she’d fucking turned around, but she could’ve just apologised instead of trying to make excuses and act all high and mighty.
“A failsafe, now what would that be? How many people are here watching us?” He continued. “How many agents of the government are feverishly noting down everything I say, so they can use it against me later?”
The mere mention of his brother put Goro slightly more on edge, but it did remind him of how much Nick must despise Eisenberg. Part of him, the very petty part, was tempted to accept her help just to spite his useless piece of shit brother, and he couldn’t shake that impulse, no matter how hard he tried.
He couldn’t really think of any snarky quips or retorts to what she said next, either. Eisenberg was right, that was exactly why he’d asked Izumi to keep everything a secret. Again, before he’d actually reply to her, his attention was pulled away by the oil on Izumi.
Eisenberg had made the same assumption that Goro had, that it was an injury, a break in Izumi’s hydraulics, but on closer inspection there were no breaks in the plates. Plus, there was oil on his face as well, even though that wasn’t broken either.
His heart dropped at Izumi suggesting they were… tears. He hadn’t even considered the boy was still capable of that. He hadn’t considered how Izumi was feeling at all. Goro had been so caught up in feeling betrayed, in his anger and hate and fear, that he’d completely forgotten that within the robot before him was a child equally as scared as he was. This was a feeling Goro hadn’t had in decades now. Not betrayal, not anger at himself but… something else. The feeling of having betrayed someone else. Someone else’s pain overtaking your own.
Was this what guilt felt like?
“I’d say it’s fine, Izumi, but. It’s not. You know this. I don’t understand why you’d ever care enough to feel that way, it’s obvious I’m not worth it, but…”
He wrapped the bandage around Izumi’s paw, just in case, but he didn’t put too much effort into it. It was obvious that physical damage wasn’t the problem. He barely heard what Elise asked him, too absorbed in his own horror at the emotional strain he’d put Izumi through. Whatever he’d done, he’d managed to upset him so much that a body incapable of crying, had shed tears. All of a sudden, Elise’s inability to recognize what Goro could made him angry all over again.
“He’s not injured, Eisenberg. They’re tears. I would’ve thought someone so concerned about the wellbeing of others would give enough of a shit to see when their friend is fucking crying, but I guess for you it doesn’t matter, does it? Just try to ‘minimize it’ for the moment, so things are more convenient for you and your fucking government dogs watching us. If you consider yourself a doctor, you should work on your fucking bedside manner. I can’t think of a single person in the world who’d want to be treated by someone with an attitude like yours.” Before Goro could stop himself, he’d started ranting again. He wasn’t yelling, instead doing his absolute best to keep his voice down and not upset Izumi further. “You said he punched a wall when you confronted him about this, and yet… You didn’t think there was anything wrong with going on with this plan? No problem at all with putting a child, your friend, through something like this, as long as you got something out of it? How am I supposed to see you as either of those things when you can’t fucking behave like it?”
When he finally managed to catch his breath, and Izumi offered to use the DNI to prove how much he cared, Goro’s heart sank even more. Even with everything he’d just said and done, Goro’s trust in Izumi was still shaken. A part of him he couldn’t ignore screamed that this was a trap, that giving someone who’d betrayed his trust unlimited access to his own mind was the last thing he should want to do.
“I’m sorry Izumi, I just… I can’t do that right now.” He muttered, grabbing the paw over his heart and trying to push it away. “The mere thought of what the DNI opens me up to… I can’t take that risk either.”

When Yusaku stated he thought it might had been tears Elise shook her head lightly in response. "As I mentioned before Yusaku-kun, you might be within the vessel of a robot, but your soul, your identity is still that of a human being, there is nothing that doesn't say you wouldn't be capable of feeling grief or sorrow, although I didn't expect your body, in its current state would be able to show such signals." However, her train of thought was rather brutally interrupted by Goro's statement. "You can check the room if you wish, I can promise you there are neither cameras or recording devices to be found, and the rooms next to us are unbooked and empty, if you desire to check them, be my guest."
She answered him, her voice still calm and gentle, almost unflinching in spite of the accusations. However, it was what happened in the wake of Goro's statement about her medical profession and her manner of treating a friend that earned a more stronger reaction. "I apologize if my decision is viewed as such by you Goro-san." Her eyes narrowed slightly as she took a step forward toward him.
"I believe you misunderstand the situation that you and Yusaku-kun find yourself in. You, are a wanted villain, by all means you should have been greet by an armed response from the government, the government would have gladly used all their resources to get their hands on you. Police, army, pro-heroes, you wouldn't be talking but fighting for your freedom right around now. Yusaku-kun? He would be detained, any information within his database would be forcefully extracted just to give the government that advantage they might be so paranoid about obtaining. In the aftermath, you can likely imagine what state Yusaku-kun might have been left in"
She shook her head lightly in response as she continued. "Instead you find yourself in a room with a friend of yours and a girl who is attempting to have a civil conversation with you. This was only made possible by me pulling way too many risks and favors that it could have put me in serious troubles, but I still did so to give Yusaku-kun's belief a chance to be proven true, for his dream to become a reality because at least I believe in my friend. Can you say the same thing Goro-san?"
Despite the softness of her voice, there was a clear sharpness in her words, the focused stare making it event that Elise was quite serious, and quite displeased also. "I could have told Yusaku-kun to stay back, but that would be a discredit to my trust in him. Even knowing the risk his presence brings, I still allowed him to come here, so next time take a moment to look in the mirror before scolding me about how I treat my friends or my profession as a doctor."
With that said and done she took a step back and sighed audibly. "Like I mentioned I'm a doctor, not an engineer, as much as I want to take Yusaku-kun to someone who knows how to help him, that means ending this meeting, and going against Yusaku-kun's desire to try to continue this conversation."
She looked at Yusaku and shook her head lightly in return. "I'm afraid a DNI would only be an option if he is willing to accept it also."
She looked quietly up at Goro, luckily her mood was returning back to normal slowly, she knew getting agitated would do neither of them any good, but it appeared that some people really were that self-serving that they couldn't see beyond the length of their own nose! At least Yusaku had realized it after a while, but Goro might be an entirely different problem to handle in that sense.
Perhaps for now she would pass the ball to Yusaku and see if he could earn a favorable reaction out of Goro.

Yusaku gave a meek nod at Goro's refusal. "A-alright. I...uuuh."
Well what now? The two of them were in the middle of a confrontation. He was just there...unable to do anything. He would try to persuade Goro into a fusion one last time. It was the only thing he could do there.
"She does say the truth. There is no police no government and no other stuff here. Just the three of us. Come on Goro, please. You go to hell and back for people that force you to kill and then torture you. I'm trying my hardest to save you. To pull you away from this stupid situation you are in."
He walked right face to face with him.
"I am literally standing here pleading you to not abandon me. You may think you're underserving of all this but it's not true. I will give my life if it means you get to walk a day in the sun without dread or grief. Hell even if you think you're undeserving, then you should take the offer and prove you are instead."
Yusaku's tail wagged in a slow pace. He was tense.
"I...I don't have much else to offer you to make you feel better about this. The only thing I can give you is my body and you know that. W-we don't need to use the DNI of course. But...uhm...yeah. Allowing you to become Nightmare again is the only thing I can offer you right now to make it better... Though...to be honest...right now it's me who's really feeling the need to merge into Nightmare."
He paused for a moment to glance at Elise. "This situation is entirely in your hands, Goro. My LIFE is in your hands. I really don't want this to be the end of everything we built.
We should move forward. Together. Like we always did. It just changes a little because now we have Elise here to help us out too. So instead of everyone being negative nancys how about we try what we always do when we need to think? We merge into Nightmare and we go for a walk on the rooftops or wherever we want. I'm sure Elise wouldn't mind some fresh air herself. It wouldn't be too bad don't you think, big brother?"
Hose last words he mumbled wihout noticing, but he was really at the bottom of the barrel. Becoming Nightmare and giving Goro his powers was the only thing he could do to possibly calm him down and let him feel in control. It would also calm Yusaku down. If even that last appeal failed...well...Yusaku dreaded he had lost him. Goro would probably be able to see the look in Yusaku's eyes though. It was a plea. A plea to wear him and let him know he wouldn't be left alone.
It seemed that the roles had been switched. Usually it was Goro craving to merge with Yusaku, but his time it was the other way around. Yusaku was the one in desperate need to feel himself connected to Goro. He needed to become Nightmare again. Yusaku decided to kneel down. This was his last resort.
"Big brother...I beg you. P-please. Let me stay with you. Just for a little while if you want. It's fine. Just please. I know you're mad with me and all but I really really need it. Just five minutes. I can do with just five."

If Eisenberg wanted Goro to stop seeing her as a smug holier-than-thou bitch, she really wasn’t doing herself any favours. To him, it was like she was seconds away from pulling out a cup of tea and sipping it while talking about how losing your temper means you lost the argument. When a friend is breaking down in tears next to you, and a friend of a friend is screaming and yelling at you to give a shit, it’s a pretty bad look to care more about looking ‘calm and superior’ than comfort your friend.
At least his comments about her choice of career earned him some reaction. Even just a narrow of her eyes felt like a small victory for him. She was acting as aloof as before, but this was more obvious passive-aggression. Targeting Goro’s position as a villain, Yusaku for aiding him, talking as if she was doing them both such a favour and that they shouldn’t dare criticize her because of it. Even daring to imply he didn’t believe in Izumi.
“Just because this isn’t the worst case scenario, doesn’t mean you’re a perfect, impossible-to-question paragon I can’t criticize.” Goro straightened his back and pushed his glasses up. “...Nor does it mean I have to believe you about the lack of surveillance.”
He ignored the rest of what Eisenberg said, not because he couldn’t think of a comeback, but because now was certainly not the time to be arguing. Not when Izumi was already distressed. He tried to put the wannabe-heroine out of his mind, and focused entirely on the one in the room he actually cared about.
When the robot approached him, Goro felt the urge to push him away, back onto the bed, as if he was being attacked. Holding back from doing it took almost everything he had left. No matter how damaged his trust in Izumi was, it was impossible for Goro to dismiss how hurt he felt. Every pause, every stammer was another knife in Goro’s heart.
Through Izumi’s long, long, long plea, Goro was completely silent, completely still. This was a feeling he’d never quite had before; the most he could compare it to was the absolute crushing dread that failing Mother made him feel, but it wasn’t quite the same. His inexperience with it meant he didn’t know what one was meant to do or say in a situation like this. The only thing he could think of was to give up, to allow the DNI to go forth, but he could never do something like that.
It was two words that brought him out of this stupor. “Big brother.” It was a phrase that made his heart stop, and his veins fill with ice. Something he hadn’t been called in years. All who called him that at this point were killed. He almost thought he’d imagined it the first time. With all the strain his mind had been under, perhaps he’d misheard the robot. He hoped to God he had.
But, no. Izumi repeated himself, the desperation in his voice clear as day. That was what broke Goro, more than he’d already been broken in that day.
He wasn’t in the hotel room anymore. Wasn’t in Tokyo, or Japan, or 2073. He was back in London, in the Gifted Underground’s “training grounds”. 2069. 18 years old.
And it wasn’t Izumi kneeling in front of him, pleading with him. It was. Someone else. Another kid from the orphanage, a few years younger than him. Her four insectoid eyes overrun with tears, mixing with the blood running down her chin. She’d struggled to even speak, as one of her lungs had already been crushed, and she wasn’t in a kneeling position by choice, but by force, for her legs had been broken. By him. He could feel the bruises and cuts and burns painting his body, and the way the corners of the rock in his hand dug into his palm.
He didn’t remember her name.
But he remembered her face when he’d brought the rock down for the last time.
Her voice, begging him not to. Even if he hadn’t cared.
The flashback must’ve only lasted an instant in reality, but to Goro it felt like an eternity. Even when he returned to the present, to the horrible buzzing of the yellow hotel lights, it was all he could do to not fall into the fetal position.
“Yusaku.” He gripped the robot’s shoulders as much as he could, Eisenberg now completely gone from the room as far as he was concerned. “It’s not that… that I don’t want to trust you. That I intend to forsake you, or Nightmare. It’s that… You don’t know what being Nightmare means. I know you’re trying, you want to know, but there's no way I can ever do you the injustice of allowing you to.” His voice was breaking, struggling against the sobs that interrupted him.
A few wet drops fell onto the robot’s chest, and Goro lifted one of his arms to wipe at his eyes. “After all, you want me to be a good person, right? What would be good about traumatising a child? What about forcing every last nightmare I’ve lived through onto an impressionable mind would be okay? There’s not a word you can say to convince me you’d handle it.” He was babbling by this point, barely conscious of what he was saying. That was the only reason he was admitting something like this, instead of burying it deep in his psyche and denying it entirely.
“Yusaku. Listen to me. I don’t want to be Nightmare right now. I don’t want you to have to be Nightmare right now.” He sobbed again. "Just be a person. Just be you."
