Don't Let It Bring You DOWN It was Autumn in Russia when Anastasia decided to leave. The cargo ship was set to head towards Nagoya, Japan at the crack of dawn tomorrow. Not only did it mean that the redhead was leaving her hometown behind, but a new adventure with heaps of money and booze on the horizon.
Ana perched atop a crate in the dockyard as she watched the rest of her men carry the supplies into the cargo bay, applying crimson red lipstick as the reflection in her compact mirror looked back at her. Hidden inside of the crates was the last of the firearms that the family business had produced- all going to Japan and straight into the hands of a chaotic group of men.
"Будьте осторожны с этим.(Be careful with that,)" The redhead barked out an order without even so much as a glance towards her workers, confident that they couldn't so much as tie their own shoelaces without her help. There was many things that Ana was good at, and sitting on her ass while her underlings did the work for her was something she was profoundly good at. Though, once the lipstick was applied, she'd hop right off the side to speak with her crew directly. It was going to be a long journey south, and the last thing she wanted was for these men to believe that they'd earned their stay so easily. It was suffice to say that Cataclysm didn't take fondly to leeches, and so she'd make sure to single them out as she took long heeled strides towards her quarters. Along the way to her cabin, she'd hiss out quick commands to passing grunts as if her tongue was coated in the molten metal and ready to spit it at any given moment to those that gave her a look in return. This would be her last day in Russia, most likely forever, but she couldn't help but want to be rid of the place. Yes, Ana had carved her family's name into the history of Volgograd, yet it was a family that she could never call hers. The business may have been her inheritance, but it was never truly hers. She knew well of the whispers behind her back. 'The Bitch Daughter of Roman', as they had called her from the second she'd killed the same man in his sleep, was out to make her own name. Japan was the only way she'd be able to get the fresh start that she so badly desired. Her cabin was accommodating, but nowhere near as comfortable as she could imagine that the stable ground would be when their journey was completed. Reaching for her cellphone, Ana scrolled through her contact list until the familiar name from so long ago lit up brightly on her screen. It was true that going to Japan was to be the start of a new adventure, but the redhead would have been lying if she claimed it was solely for that reason. And so, her slender fingers moving on it's own, the redhead clicked on the name written 'Лев' and held it up to her ear,"подобрать ... (Pick up...)" She'd mutter, the ringing drilling incessantly until-
It stopped.

As the sun rose Savage relaxed in a couch they had... Procured from an unsuspecting patron, a tale for another time, no today Savage was resting after an extended night of havoc. The first of many nights he felt content with his actions of the day, it was a pleasant feeling to be sure but still Savage felt like something was missing.
Unfurling onto the couch, with his legs far too long for it and instead dangling off the side whilst he placed a hand behind his head to supply some comfort he was feeling the slightest bit playful. Fidgeting in his pocket for a small phone that made his already gargantuan hand seem titanic in comparison, he began to tap lightly on the screen while searching deep within his head, Savage was a man of many past's and made something of a habit of calling old allies and enemies if only to goad them, it was always good fun. But... Who would he go after this time? There were many, from Mesoamerican priests to African warlords all had some sort of bone to pick, but those could be left for another time... No... Perhaps it was better to check up on someone who's been without his presence for quite a while.
The numbers came slowly to him but were familiar nonetheless, after a moment of recollection he called with his normal wide grin fading only to a slight smirk as he laid his head against the arm of the couch staring up toward the night sky, it wouldn't take long for them to answer it never did. As he answered the phone he'd switch languages from Japanese to Russian, which he was far more comfortable with. "You were never one who could ever let the past truly sit could you?" While he spoke he'd check his nails to see if any dirt or blood had gotten into them from the prior day's activities. "The birds are chirping little red, and they say you're making way to Japan, is this true?" He said with his grin widening. "You don't need to answer." He'd probably "accidentally" cut her off. "They told me it's because you plan to open your market... However, we both know why you're here, you can admit it, I've always been told I'm hard to forget you shouldn't feel bad about it." His sides were about to give in only being abated by an exhale from his nose.
After a short silence or perhaps an outburst on Ana's part Savage decided to finally get to the point. "Ah... But tell me... Are you finally willing to set that drab city in the shadows where it belongs, or do you plan on bringing it to Japan with you?" By now his grin faded, he patiently waited for an answer looking to stars in the sky, they were rather beautiful this time of the night near the mountain only further enhanced by ringing of cicada and songs of grasshoppers. Truly beautiful.

Don't Let It Bring You DOWN Ana had never liked using telephones. That wasn't to say that she wasn't relived when the ringing on the other end of the line stopped. Quite the opposite, actually. It was simply that the redhead had been burned enough times by false security and plastic smiles that only hearing the person speak without seeing through their expressions made her anxious. The man, known to her as Boris, Savage, and her Lion, spoke up in her native tongue before she had the chance to greet him. That was how she remembered the behemoth of a man- loud, full of himself, and incredibly obnoxious,"It's good to hear from you, too, Savage." She responded back in Russian, the tone of her response sarcastic from the way he'd answered the phone call. Settling down into the chair just next to the desk provided to her in the ship's cabin, Anastasia glanced to the whiskey decanter sat on the silver tray longingly. It was Savage, after all. A drink to cut the edge off of her inevitable headache would be more than welcome. The redhead would listen as well as she could, one hand removing the cap of the glass liquor bottle while the other held her hand up to her ear. His voice was the strangest combination of both rough and smooth- like a sweet brandy that burns all the way through. Still, Savage was just a strange man to begin with. She knew that when she phoned him that he would ramble as he always did, giving Anastasia hardly any time to get a word in,"I-" It was a solid attempt, but her voice was cut off by the large bear of a man speaking as if he knew her.
He did, of course, but the redhead refused to give him yet another thing to get a big head from. By then she had poured herself a shot, placing the glass back onto the tray with an obvious 'clink' against the metal. It seemed no matter where she was, the Ruski was able to find alcohol just about anywhere if she looked hard enough,"You're as stupid as you are big, you know that? I am coming to Japan for business only, not for idiot men like yourself. So you can forget it!" She snapped back at him, her face turning as brightly red as her hair. Whether it was out of frustration or embarrassment, the woman allowed herself to be flustered in the company of no one but the prideful lion on the line. Though, just as fast as he'd riled the feral cat, Savage had returned to speaking to her plainly. There was never a dull moment, that was for sure. Her slender fingers would find their way around the top of the shot glass, throwing back the liquor with ease before standing to begin her pace around the room,"No. Japan is my fresh start. I need it." The hand holding her cell phone tightened, eyebrows furrowing at the idea of even slightly moving forward from the hometown that had only reminded her of the past. The bedroom she'd slept in for years above the family's pub, her graying mother, her stash of spirits in her desk drawer at the warehouse; as many reasons as she had to go, they were paired with many to stay. But Anastasia wasn't getting younger, and the memories of what happened to the rest of her family wasn't fading with time. Even if she'd truly wanted to stay in Volograd, she would have still gone through with her decision to leave. There was opportunity on the horizon that she couldn't dismiss so easily,"Your shipment should be ready for pickup as soon as I arrive." Her heeled boots clicked against the hardwood floor as she circled around the perimeter of her cabin, speaking now of business rather than pleasure,"I'd hope that the others would be there for a warm welcome. Well, maybe not Jean. Bitter old bastard." The Vagabonds were Savage's whole life, so knowing them was a part of the deal. It had been years since they met face-to-face, but the redhead still remembered the ragtag group of misfits from the last time she'd seen them in Brazil.Ana stopped pacing. Her glossed lips parted and she hesitated speaking, but continued with her thought as her heart of melted gold revealed itself,"Is he keeping you out of trouble, though?" The tone of her voice softened, and regretted saying it after it left her mouth. She could already hear the big brute of a man mocking the soft spot that she always had for him, and a premature scowl had curved on her lips just from the inevitability of it. Though there was much that she hadn't yet known about Savage Anastasia knew the surface level enough to already be annoyed with him. It's Only Castles BURNING |

Savage couldn't help but grin as the red headed woman went off at him, there always a little bit of pleasure found in pushing her buttons in particular. "Of course... Of course...~" He said, his grin almost being able to be heard through the phone. Red had always been a feisty one at heart, since he met her Savage could see the fire burning within although it did once need a little bit of stoking...
He relaxed further into the couch that was far too small for his stature, placing his hand behind his head and fidgeting to get in a more comfortable position. "Really? Nippon?" Staring into the night sky he shrugged thinking about it. "I've seen worse places for a rebirth. But I warn you it's not as fantastical as you may think, the people here are grey and boring." At least it sounded as if Red was going to and at least attempt to separate her past and the present, but would she succeed rests in her hands. "Ah yes the shipment..." Savage distracted himself for a moment reaching down to grab a pillow that rested in the grass. "That should make this a little more interesting... Tell me whenever you finally make it so I can play with my new toys."
"Hmm." Red and Jean always had a... Conflict of interests lets say, ever since Brazil. So it wasn't a surprised she still held some resentment over his partner in crim-
Savage's smile grew. "Why would you care? I am an idiot man after all you said it yourself!" He said smugly mocking her worry but after letting a victorious yawn he'd continue on. "... But if you're truly that curious. He couldn't keep me out of trouble even if he wanted, which he very much does, but he's at least kept me alive thus far. Does that answer your question?" As I said, the giant always enjoyed picking on Ana for her affection. "Anyway, as much as I'd love to continue to chat I'd prefer to wait till you arrive. After all you must have much more important duties than talking to idiot men, I mean, as you said you do run a business don't you?" He put his unoccupied hand over his mouth to try and suppress his urge to laugh. "I'll see you when you're in Nippon little red, goodbye." He ended the call chipper, tossing the phone to the side as he resumed to watching the stars.

Don't Let It Bring You DOWN
Ana clung to the words that Savage spoke, letting herself sit back into her wooden chair in the cabin of her room as the scowl faded from her face from his answer. There were many things that the brute of a man was, but predictable was never one of them. His voice held a softness to it, and it took near the end of the call for her to realize that it was a smile that she could hear. The redhead's face reflected it like a mirror, though she could not see it with her own eyes, and she tried to hide the bashfulness in her voice to avoid more mockery from him as she responded,"Yes, I'm looking forward to the change of scenery." She'd wanted to say something different, but turned the response on it's head to keep from looking like a flustered fool.Savage hung up the phone and Ana kept it at her ear to listen to the dead ringing, silently hoping that his boisterous voice would appear out of the noise and drown it out. She knew better, though. There would be no more of her Lion until Japan, nor would it be without it's complications knowing him. Still, the redhead smiled. She stood up from her chair, marching right out the same door she entered from to bark more orders at the underlings that loaded cargo onto the ship at Port Bronka. The feelings that made her feel like a girl again were crushed down, as they always were, and so she continued her journey to rebirth in Japan. It's Only Castles BURNING |
