The crowds let out a wild cheer, so loud it could easily be heard even from the outside. Shizuoka Stadium was a packed house tonight, as two rival teams met for a heated match that had been weeks in the making. Unfortunately for her though, Izanami Ryū was unable to watch the actual spectacle within. She looked up at an LED scoreboard, kicking off the beginning of the first half of the match, and let out an irritated sigh. Pro-Hero work was not as glamorous as it often seemed to the public. One of Dragon Queen's least favorite activities was when Heroes were requested to work security at major public events. Concerts, sports events, parades, all could be easy targets for major Villain attacks and need immediate Hero intervention. Not one to turn down work, Izanami reluctantly agreed to take up the job.
However the reality was she was little more than a glorified security guard. Most of her afternoon had been spent collecting parking ticket stubs, checking ID's, and making patrols of the stadium grounds. Even now she was finishing up her last sweep until the end of the first quarter. The Heroes contracted by the stadium administration had been given over a break room on the stadium's main level for their interim. It wasn't much, a few tables, enough chairs for a few dozen people, and a worn out old couch. An old T.V. was mounted on the walls, showing the game in a relatively faded picture. There were a half dozen Heroes here in total, Izanami being the most notable of them. On her walk back to the break room Izanami passed by a concession stand, the smell of warm food filling her nostrils. "I need to get something to eat..." She muttered to herself. However greasy stadium fare didn't sound exactly up her alley.
Returning to the break room, Dragon Queen signed off on a time sheet before slumping down into a seat. "Ironhide you're up." She called out to her coworkers, and a large rhinoceros looking man with steel horns stood up from his seat at the table. He was midway through a game of poker with the other Heroes, a cigarette hanging from his mouth.
"Yeah yeah, I'm going. Queen you play my hand out ok? You win you can keep a third of the winnings."
"Half." Izanami shot back coyly, taking his seat and looking over her cards and the chip piles the other members of the table had.
"Grrr... Forty percent, take it or leave it." Ironhide stated, grabbing a comparably tiny pen and scribbling out his name on the time sheet.
"Deal." Izanami said with a coy smile, studying bids as she got into a competitive mindset. The card game continued for a while uninterrupted, the participating complaining about the quality of the TV, the match, or the coffee throughout. None of the Pro-Heroes were particularly thrilled to be here, and did it more as a courtesy than because they wanted to. The monotony was eventually broken when another Hero returned, bright eyed with a cocky smile plastered on his face. His hair was made of fire, as were his eyebrows.
"Hey-hey boys and girls, guess who's back from the pizza place?" Announced Wildfire, proudly holding up a dozen large pizzas of assorted types. He set them down a counter by the coffee machine like a conquering hunter returning with a fresh kill.
"Wildfire!" The Heroes chanted in unison, setting down their cards and picking themselves up from the couch. Nothing brought people together like hot food, even for Heroes.
"Now remember you guys were all supposed to pitch in, so nobody eats until they pony up their share of the bill." He said playfully, wagging a finger. "Also sorry dudes and dudettes, they were out of breadsticks. Busy night with the game and all, I can't remember who put that one on the order." He held out his hand like a ticket collector, as his fellow Pros grumbled and rummaged through their costumes for cash to pay up with. Izanami herself retrieved her payment from out of her enormous cleavage, doing so in full view of the Flame Hero.
"Will this cover it Darling? I hope you got me meatlovers." She said with a sultry tone, batting her long eyelashes before rifling through the pizzas for hers. Wildfire had steam coming out of his ears and looked like his brain had fried at the woman's flirtatious remark. He nodded dimly, and Izanami blew him a kiss as she found her pizza. She carried it back to the table with her, along with a fresh cup of coffee. "You guys should put Ironhide's pizza in the fridge, he's not gonna be back for like twenty minutes." Izanami said to her coworkers, as she opened her box to inspect her delicious smelling feast.
"Still can't believe a guy that big is a vegetarian..." She mused to herself, taking a slice of pizza and throwing it into the air. It never hit the ground, snatched out of the air by the air by one of her serpent tendrils, the other seven joining in the feeding frenzy biting off hunks of pizza like piranhas to a fresh kill. As they did Izanami took a sip from her coffee and pushed forward a small stack of chips. "Alright I'll raise."
