Million Reasons (Nimue)

The good thing for G was that Nimue had just gone upstairs to the cafetaria to get some coffee, something she did not have in her own little infirmary office and went down the stairs at the entrance hall to go back to the infirmary that was at the corner. She had been rather busy lately, moving out, finding a good apartment, she had cancelled training because of that only last week and after that she had shortly not spoken to G at all. Right now while going towards the cafeteria she had realized she forgot her phone but as she had locked the infirmary for the students and any other curious minds she wasn't afraid that she would not find her phone at the right spot where she had left it. 

So with her mind only considering what more she had to do today, she had no biology class today but she had a few things to check for the infirmary, she was planning a new first aid class focused on burning wounds and so on and decided that there were a few more things to do now that she had a few things less on her mind. Albeit she felt like she was slow, maybe she was catching a cold? Still possible in the summer after all. She mused a little on while walking down the stairs until she heard the door and leaned over the stair rails to see who just walked in at this hour. It could of course be potentially every one but many students were still in class, so she simply wondered. "G what are you doing here?" She called out surprised, leaning back over the balustrade and quickly moving down the last few stairs, there must be anything wrong, no concerned looking parent came to U.A. for nothing, should she point him to where potentially Haruuhi and Miku could be or what? 

It was definitely a good question of which classes the two of them could have because she wasn't a homeroom teacher and she clearly did not remember everything of it, so it might be best to just stay quiet at this point. "I could look up where Haruuhi and Miku are, you can follow me to the infirmary, just give me a second." She might not listen at first, she was simply trying to be helpful, smiling and trying to calm the man down that she considered her friend. Until she realized he wasn't here for his daughters. 

She took the last five steps on the stairs, one at a time as she had no idea what was going on, which was why she suggested Haruuhi and Miku but he simply put his hands on her shoulders and she looked up surprised because well he surely was worried, maybe slightly aggitated about something and she frowned and looked worried. She had no idea that his son was born and she frowned only more. She put her coffee on the reception desk and nodded, "Yes-yes let's go." She wasn't sure if she could do anything for his baby and she followed in a hurry after him. She was not the fastest but she was thank god not slow either and she hurried after him because damn why was he so fast. "When was he born?" She only knew that they-wait... "Wait are you back together?" She had so many questions but that all did not matter and it did not make her walk slower but there were so many questions that only would she want to be asked to get an idea of what she should do. She stared at the cab that was at the pavement and she quickly took a seat there and she smiled shyly at the cabbie, "So the hospital?"  The cabbie seemed to be afraid that G wanted to take the wheel again so he tried to speed enough through the traffic that was there. 

When she could focus on G now that they were driving towards Tokyo, "Okay, tell me what's going on." She had wanted to take a sip of her coffee but realized she had put it down and not take it with her to hurry and now she had paid for a coffee that she did not have... oh well. She turned to look back at G, not sure what she could do but her quirk would maybe fight an infection, Iwayo and Nkosi were worried as well so she was sure that the two of them could help her out with what to do but she needed an answer. 

The fact that he shook her around because of his well issue was making it a bit more of a problem. She simply wasn't sure what to do or say at this moment because he surely seemed to be in trouble, he was yelling in a way, not even too loud but boy he was stressed that's for sure. "Okay, okay I got it." She brushed his hands calmly from her shoulders, she had to get him to call down and she pulled his face to her as he stared with a very mean expression so she took his chin and pulled his attention towards her. "Look listen to me, I am going to do whatever I can for your son but I need to know what is happening." She did not want to say the harsh words that if his son was really dying that the changes for her and Nkosi were small. "But tell me something else, okay focus, what's the name of your son and when was he born." She wanted him to tell her steps about what she needed to know but the conversation would have to continue a little longer than she would have liked with the stressed man next to her and she followed him quickly into the hospital. She had not much of a chance when he dragged her along and she hobbled behind it to make sure that she could keep up. She had no idea what she should say or do about the issue. 

When they got into the right room, she looked at the woman on the bed that stared shortly at them before turning her head back to her son that was in an incubator beside her bed. "Oh." She had no idea what to immediately say about the issue, and it seemed that they were back together as the woman immediately indicated to G to come closer, having no eye for Nimue, which the nurse accepted simply because well she could imagine that you as a new mother only had eyes for one thing. "I need to know more before I can do anything." She whispered to G as she looked at the baby now walking around the bed and looking in the incubator at the little one that seemed to have trouble breathing, it did not seem to be an infection. "Give me a minute, I will talk to a nurse." She got out of the room and quickly spoke to them all to know what was going on before coming back to the room and making sure that she had swapped to Nkosi, the woman seemed to freak out shortly about seeing the skull and again Nimue did not blame her but she had to get their approval to look after Kai. "Do you allow me?" She looked at the mother to make sure she agreed with G. When the two did she opened the incubator carefully, she did not like it but she had to touch the baby to let her quirk do its work. 

She wasn't sure how she would calm him down. He was angry maybe or more worried, she had seen him annoyed and that wasn't the same as this, but they were friends and that would mean that she accepted his behaviour unconditionally because of course you would be worried about your child. She shortly thought about Mosa and Kasumi. She was sure Mosa would do anything for Kasumi too. Maybe one day, she would experience that feeling that she had to do everything to help her baby. The way he spoke, about the swear word how anticipated that he timed the birth of his son made her hold G's hand and squeeze his hand softly. "That's wonderful that you did that, and you should tell him that every birthday." She would do anything within her power of her quirk, this was she had a quirk, so nothing bad should be happening for her friend. 

So she ignored that he dragged her to the room, she ignored everything that would make a reasonable person complain because she wanted to understand, those feelings would not be hers but she could imagine, she could try, she wanted to do everything to safe this Kai Hajimari. Her eyes went from G, to Hanako, to their son and she could now understand very practically their worries and the looks, the baby looked so small, so fragile and he seemed to have trouble breathing and it pained her that the couple had so much trouble, the new mother looked so tired and done that Nimue wanted to help even more, but she needed to know more, which was why she asked G first before heading out for a quick chat with the nurses, she never came to this department but apparently her hero-name was going around good enough. 

She hurried through the conversation with the nurses, he had not yet have a fever but they were basically waiting for it and Nimue got the rush, G wasn't stupid so he either caught word of it or they simply had told the couple so when she came back and he told her that he trusted her judgement, Nkosi and Nimue decided to try a new way of healing. For the sake of the baby and the need of the incubator, they channeled the power in her right hand and opened the incubator and touched the baby's soft little skin three times, on the head, on its wrist and on its little leg before quickly closing the incubator again. Her eyecontact did not break, the two of them sort of separated, Nkosi in the closed incubator and Nimue outside. It felt like ripping herself apart, it made her nauseous and vulnerable but everything to help her friend. She muttered words under her breath, a little song her mother had taught her, the baby had to survive. 

While she muttered softly, in a singy-song voice the song of her childhood, it was in xhosa so they would not understand but the baby had to survive. She heard Nkosi more in her mind than ever, how strangely, it was as if Iwayo and Uphondu were the one that left instead of Nkosi. She shortly broke the eye contact with her invisible spirit and the baby and looked up at Hanako and G. She had been angry at him and pushed him to go and talk to her but she did not want them to have this issue. The baby had to survive. Her eyes met the blue eyes of the woman and she noticed how she tried not to cry and stare at her and the baby, she turned to G and seem to focus on him instead of looking at Nimue and the nurse turned her eyes back to the baby, listening to what G said to her to calm her down. Our boy will be fine now. They should be fine, they should be together, all three of them, the girls should have a baby brother to worry about instead of anything else. She had to make sure that the baby survived. She had no idea if the woman would pull through if not. 

Nkosi scolded her for her absent mind and she turned her attention back, fully to Nkosi and the little one. Kai Hajimari, born at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, six minutes passed and twenty-three seconds. Not bully the child but tell him how much he loved and cared about his birth was what she had in mind but she had not told G so, she had just nodded. He must be everything to the two of them. She did not want them to worry and Nkosi agreed with that. The cold seemed to disappear and the child had been so quiet before, barely breathing but now it started to cry. It cried loud and powerful that Nimue and both Nkosi took a deep breath, the fever seemed to be avoided and the cold gone, but he was still small and fragile, she would come back. She nodded to herself and opened the incubator carefully. Feeling Nkosi immediately connect with her fingers and form one with her again, she lifted up the little one and brought him carefully to the bed to the grabby hands of his mother who quickly checked him and started to cry without making a sound. Little Kai immediately understood the bubble of love from Hanako and G and stopped crying and looking at them. "He is a strong one. I will be back to make sure the process will go fine." She looked at G and Hanako and their eyes met again and she smiled when Hanako sobbed a thank you to her and she waved it away. "That's what friends do." Because G was her friend and that included the bonus for Hanako that she was important to her as well, because G was and Kai, well he was. 

She wasn't used to physical contact. The distance she had with Oz over the last year or maybe even more had been weird. She surely tried to touch people to get their attention but that was just fingertips on an arm or shoulder, nothing much else. She had maybe unintentionally done so with people but she could not remember for now. That's why the hug that G gave her surprised her. As she had said that it was what friends did, she had not expected it to be so happening or direct. She wasn't used to friendship, apart from Oz, she had not made much contact with her fellow students back at medical school and right now she seemed to be more closer to the students than any of the other adults which was not exactly what she tried to reach or do or well there were no words for it. She held on to his shoulders, even if he was taller than her, it was an easy thing to do, she did not feel the need to tiptoe as he basically held her, supporting her on her legs while he was the one that seemed to be broken, crying maybe even, she wasn't sure. 

All she could imagine was that she would be the same if it was her child. She felt already worried and sad that it was his child, G was an important friend in her life so she would not... she would not wish this upon him or anyone for that matter. She was still wondering what happened and what the hospital had done as she had only asked about the current process and happenings, which was a cold, in summer, but that wasn't strange, it was a virus or something and it was maybe not even directly a cold as he was in the incubator for safety. Maybe it had to do with creating a quirk it would be in his DNA already. Nimue did not know, she only looked up from her thoughts when G let go of her. "Don't worry my friend, I would have done the same, it's understandable. I am glad I could be of help." She shortly looked at Hanako who seemed to be absorbed by Kai and only have eyes for her little one who now seemed to have only eyes for his mother and seemed to do a lot better as Hana spoke to him about him being the best little boy in the world and Nimue calmed down a little, she felt exhausted and yet relieved, she smiled and turned her attention to G as he said he could pay her the taxi. "No, I will do it, and I will be back tomorrow after school to make sure everything is alright. If you do not mind of course?" She wanted to make sure it would not return and Nkosi and Iwayo agreed, family was everything. She wasn't sure if it felt like she would be here too much, especially to Hanako but the woman did not seem to mind now either.  

There was no way how to stop the man from worrying. She only could smile at her friend who seemed to try in every other way to please her while she did not need any pleasing. She was fine with him storming in to come and help his son, the reason why to was simple: he trusted her. She could do something very useful to him, something very important and she wanted to keep doing that. Because the baby had to survive, that was all that mattered. She shook her head, he did not owe her anything but she gave up in trying to convince him for now so she let it be. She turned to the door, watching Hanako being absorbed with talking to her baby who laughed a little at her and that seemed to make the new mother glow. Maybe she could check on Hanako too tomorrow, but not right now, not while the worry of today was over. She turned to look on G, "No, I want you to stay here, I can walk myself to the taxi." She grinned at him though, "I know you rather want to stay here anyway." She pulled him by his wrist closer to the door, "Keep an eye on your wife, I am not sure if she is okay, physically I mean, maybe she is ignoring it." She looked at him strictly before smiling reassuring, she was sure it wasn't so drastic as it was as their son but maybe Hanako would tell him of her pain once Nimue was gone. 

"Well I see you tomorrow. Oh and congratulations on becoming a dad." Which was weird to say, he had Miku and Haruuhi but at this point she had simply guessed that they were adopted, age guessing and that this was the first time that it was his child. That did not mean that she implied that the love was different because she would not believe that. She simply closed the door softly behind her, spoke to a few nurses shortly and told the reception that she would be back tomorrow before turning to the hallway and finding a cab to go back to Musutafu. Happy and satisfied for today that it worked out, it was nice to have something to hold on to, something good, a positive vibe. Yes she would be back tomorrow and planned to keep an eye on Hanako just as much. For the sake of her friend.
