APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY
Appearance:
Shimizu Haruto is a relatively tall young man, with white hair and dark brown eyes. It may be noted that his hair is not naturally white, but takes on the color due to his quirk siphoning the pigmentation. This is not normal and requires intentional effort to do, but apparently he likes how it looks. Beyond this, Haruto is relatively normal, if on the scrawny side. His quirk’s downside leads to him having little in the way of muscle, and practically no body fat. Fortunately, regarding this quirk, he has made significant progress in the control of- While in the past it caused him to appear sickly, now he merely is slightly more pale than others. In fact, his entire aura has changed significantly compared to the past- His tired and sharp eyes rounding out to contain a permanent friendly gleam. And while he still does have a piercing in his ear, he does not use it, and it will likely close up before long.
In terms of clothing, Haruto enjoys wearing plain colors, typically in the Polo or Henley style. He does have an aversion to certain dyes, as in the past his quirk would remove them from the shirt and make him ill in the process, leading to minimal color variation in his wardrobe. For his hero costume, Haruto chooses to dress as the doctor he dreams of becoming, though a part of him feels that this should wait until after he is licensed.

Personality:
Optimist is the first word most would use to describe Shimizu Haruto. Difficult to keep down, even when he becomes depressed it rarely lasts for long. A boy with big hopes and dreams, Haruto spares no efforts when it comes to the things he believes he can do. However, he holds no illusions when it comes to the things he cannot do, and refuses to let that hold him down. Lately, however, he has become frustrated at himself due to there being things he could do, but was unable to do at the time he needed to. This has caused him to redouble his efforts, so that he will never have to feel this way again.
Since his youth, Haruto has dreamed of becoming a doctor, as that was the way he saw to help people using his quirk- He is not overly fond of the traditional hero, who uses their quirk to fight villains head on. He appreciates what they do, but is of the opinion that to the quirkless, when these quirks are the ones televised, see quirks as a tool of violence, rather than of peace. As such, his ultimate dream is to become known for how quirks can be used for so much more than fighting, such as how his own will be used in his work as a doctor.
More recently, Haruto has obtained a new goal. Crushed by his failure at the Semper Fi military camp, Haruto has sprung into gear, training himself to serve as a hero specialized in rescue operations. While still refusing to enter the fighting force of heroes, Haruto believes his quirk has just as much potential for saving civilians in the field, as it does for saving them on the operating table. However, he has not decided to abandon his original dream in pursuit of this, and time will tell how the cards fall.
Haruto is an extremely friendly person, easily befriending nearly anyone he meets. His optimism frequently rears its head, causing him to imagine good intentions behind nearly anything they do, regardless of their actual intent. As such, he rarely becomes discontented with his classmates- And will even make excuses for others who do such things as punch him in the face.
A workaholic to his core, Haruto has happily filled up his schedule with more work than he should probably be handling- And he is more than happy to accept this burden, so long as he can be of use to others! As this includes being his class’s vice president and his cooking club’s founder and president, Haruto has lately become much more comfortable taking leadership roles in group activities- Though he never forces his suggestions on others, and allows them to consider the merits and demerits of his ideas without feeling criticized when they are rejected.

HISTORY
Shimizu Haruto’s quirk developed relatively early in his life- Before he was even old enough to be aware of what was happening, really. His parents were both quirkless, but were both great people and excellent role models for the young boy- And at the time, very concerned as to why their son was suddenly in such great discomfort. Rushing him to the doctor, they learned of their son’s quirk. It turned out that Haruto’s quirk was constantly absorbing any air pollution, car exhaust, fumes… In short, anything nearby that was unhealthy for the boy. And needless to say, an infant’s body was without a doubt incapable of withstanding the noxious environment in the city.
His parent’s did not need to be told twice before instantly moving as far away as they could, to a small town deep in the mountains of Hokkaido. While the young Haruto was still burdened by his quirk, the pristine environment was enough to keep him alive until his body was strong enough to withstand it’s own quirk- In part due to the near paranoia with which his parents treated everything around him. Even when drinking, they were careful when giving him anything that had even a chance of containing a compound which could trigger his quirk.
As Haruto grew up, he was not aware he had a quirk for the longest time, merely considering his physical frailty to be due to a chronic illness he had had as long as he could remember. His parents did not correct him, as their remote village was a bastion of anti-quirk sentiments. To protect him, they allowed him to believe that his quirk was no more than an illness- And the boy had no reason to doubt this fact.
In the end, Haruto’s first experience with quirks came when his classmate developed her quirk out of the blue. A true mutation type quirk, the girl’s appearance distorted into a monstrous appearance, and Haruto witnessed the horrified reactions of his classmates. Being himself, he attempted to befriend the girl despite the anti-quirk sentiments in his class- But his efforts came to naught, as her parents soon transferred her far away to escape from the same anti-quirk sentiments that Haruto’s parents had protected him from for so many years.
In the end, it was not until Haruto’s father fell ill and was accidentally cured by Haruto’s quirk that Haruto understood there was more to himself than met the eye. Confronting his parents with the knowledge that it wasn’t just his charming personality which had made his father better, they quickly admitted the truth- After all, the boy was now old enough to decide for himself what to do. Haruto continued to hide his quirk, which was not hard, considering no one would expect the sickly kid from down the road of being a mutant freak. The years passed, with not much of note occuring.
This was when things got interesting. The villagers grew ill en masse- Unbeknown to them, their water supply had been contaminated by a fracking operation. As the illness grew worse, Haruto found himself unable to hold back. Despite knowing how quirks were seen in the village, Haruto insisted- And in time, his parents relented, allowing the boy to use his quirk for what he thought was right.
Despite the common sentiments in the village, it seems it is hard to hate a boy who has just saved your lives- The expected fallout of revealing his true nature never did fall on Haruto’s head, instead being treated for what he was- A savior. And while it took quite some time, and much pain on Haruto’s part, he even managed to purify the water supply. It would not be incorrect to say that the praise for that got to his head a little.
However, this event caused the boy to think. The way the villagers treated him- That it was hard to hate a person who had saved your life. This experience led the kind natured Haruto to ponder- What if he continued to do this? To save those suffering from sickness and toxicity, using his quirk, and in turn, if they held anti-quirk sentiments, cause them to be able to accept quirks the way the villagers had?
The seed grew, and the more he considered it, the more Haruto felt convinced. This was something that he could do. This was something that he should do. And as such, the boy began studying to become a doctor. However, barely even being a middle schooler, the road ahead was long.
When UA opened its doors, Haruto had to make a choice. He could go to a prestigious high school, one that would with near certainty allow him into the medical school as he pursued his dream- Or, he could enter UA, a gamble on a school with no reputation as of yet. In the end, Haruto chose the gamble- His dream hinged on being able to use his quirk, after all- And while prestigious schools would help prepare him for medical studies, they would do next to nothing in terms of training his quirk.
Soon after joining UA, Haruto met the girl who would soon become the most important thing in his life- Ishihara Chise. Bonding over a shared love of cooking, the two moved quickly, and opened the first club to be found in UA- The cooking club, with Haruto as president, and Chise as his vice president. As the two interacted, they fell in love, and it was not long before the two were dating.
Meanwhile, Haruto was inadvertently caught up in the events of Herr Kunshu’s circus. Although he only managed to make it in time for the shit to hit the fan, it seemed, as Herr Kunshu created chaos in the circus tent. Using his quirk to purify smoke and smoke poisoning, along with his meager first aid skills, Haruto helped his new classmates rescue civilians from the smog- An event which, perhaps, introduced the idea that he could be useful in a rescue scenario.
It was not long after, when the QED epidemic struck UA. While Haruto did his best to purify afflicted classmates, the drug proved more powerful than his system could handle- In short, despite it being the thing he had most pride in, Haruto found himself unable to match up to the medicines produced by his classmates. However, in the process, he discovered something most unusual- The black substance produced by his quirk was not an amalgam of toxins as he had previously been led to believe, but a mutated form of white blood cells which consumed toxins and multiplied at a rapid rate.
Curious about the ramifications of this discovery, Haruto soon found himself on the grounds of the Semper Fi military camp. There, with the help of some old friends, new ones, and a doctor or two, the boy would discover some of the truths behind his quirk- Including that it was never what he thought it was. In addition, he was able to begin training to control the new aspects which were discovered. Unfortunately, before he had grown significantly…
The Semper Fi incident occurred. For Haruto, he was excitedly observing a famous doctor’s seminar on quirks, when the doctor released a poisonous gas into the room that the participants were gathered in. To Haruto, with his ability to purify, this should have been his moment of glory- However, his abilities proved too shallow, and while he managed to clear the cloud of poison with the help of fellow student Rin Kurama, Haruto failed to save the doctor who had inhaled a heavy dose at the beginning. The man died in Haruto’s arms, leaving the boy horrified- And combined with the amount of poison he had absorbed, quite useless throughout the rest of the night.
Due to a timely comforting by Chise the boy managed to recover, and does not appear to hold significant lasting trauma. However, the event has inspired him to train harder than ever, that he might never have to feel so useless again. In addition to his preparations for entering medical school, Haruto has been seen participating in various rescue courses offered by the school- And it seems he intends to use the school festival as a chance to show his growth.
