● waiting, waiting... i fall asleep Eh, she came from... left? No, she came from that side, was that left? What was left and what was right again? She looked at her little brown hands and tried to remember it. You see, Honey was lost and so lost that she did not even recognize what left and right was anymore, she only knew up and down because her feet were on the ground, she had considered climbing up in a tree to figure out where she was and how to get her way back to the people that were waiting for her, this was why you did not bring Honey Lemon with you on a scouting for a film location, it was nice that she was picked for a new movie, surely but now she was lost and that would probably mean she would get grounded because she left her mother's side and that she would lose the job in this movie and and... and... She started crying. It is not faaaair! She tried to pay good attention to where she was and being close to her mother and her fellow actor, buddy, whatever it was and when she got distracted by some flowers, she got lost because they were gone and she had run around in circles to try and find them and now she was all dirty, her hair in disarray with little twigs and leaves in there, her shoes were already gone and she was walking on bare feet, her tail dragging on the ground as she was absolutely not motivated and happy to keep it up.
She muttered inaudible words under her breath, she had lost her shoes in her moment of running around, and in her moment of trying to find them back she only got lost more and as the scouting was near the edge of the forest, she had tried to find a lighter spot with less trees, only to end up in the middle of the whole forest on the outskirts of Tokyo, close to the mountains because there was an open spot and she now simply sunk onto the ground on her little knees and groaned and sobbed. What would she do... how would she get out of this mess? She cried a little more before rolling up as a ball of well squirrel, if she did not move they would find her sooner than later, her shoulders shaking a little as she cried, it wasn't fair. 391 words ft. honey hirano
A felled tree, long dead, lay like a gash on the forest floor. Around it, ferns exploded, splashes of green against the sun-bleached brown. Two, human-shaped splashes of green were sprawled across the old, felled tree, basking in the light. Duplicate beings, with halos of viney, green hair blooming from around their restful faces. Birdsong on the wind, the rippling of a nearby creek. Footsteps in the detritus.
A sound.
Always a sound.
Neither creature stirred. With bellies filled from eating a deer just a day prior, both were sluggish. Neither excited by the prospect of a visitor. Sleepy. Warm. Let the deer walk past. They were napping.
Whatever was walking by sniffled woefully. That was an unusual sound. One of the creatures opened their eyes, orange like amber, and rolled to a sitting position.
What is it? What is it? What is it? What-?
The thought reverberated between the two, and the second creature rose. Then the two descended from the log, and moved one behind the other towards the source of the sound. They moved slowly, bare feet silent upon the pillowy forest floor. It wasn't long until they came upon their visitor, an apparent fluffy orb. The twin with the rounder face crept closer, ignoring the grab at her elbow that the sharp-eyed twin made. Squirrels had tails like that, but squirrels were not that big.
Be careful, be careful.
Is it food?
Big squirrel?
Big squirrel!
The observation was thought with a note of disdain. Squirrels were small and fast, and therefore generally not worth hunting. The round-faced twin sank to all fours as she drew nearer, sniffing at the ball of fluff. It smelled… sweet. Like fruit, but somehow unreal. The round-faced twin extended one hand, and, ever so slowly, took an open-palmed swing at the ball of fluff.
Her open palm connected with something, but she didn't stay too see what. Instead, she scurried back to the safety of her sister's company, and the two of them watched owlishly.
They must have made quite the sight, in their tattered sundresses over cargo pants, rolled at the knees, with their flannel shirts tied around their waists. No shoes, crouched on all fours, watching their visitor with curiosity. Not a word was spoken, from either of them, and neither seemed aware of how peculiar they must look.
ooc: this takes place before the girls leave the woods!

● waiting, waiting... i fall asleep It wasn't a hard slap as it mostly hit the fluffness of her tail that was wrapped around her, like a little ball, feet pulled up, her tail over her head, she would just sob in her tail and wait for the people to find her. They were with four others, they should find her. But now that someone hit her tail, she half expected her ferocious mother to stare at her like a wild ox but she stared with a blank expression to the green haired girl in front of her. There was no sound to catch out of her little throat, that's how surprised Honey was. W-wood monsters? Because it wasn't only one that stared with big orange coloured eyes at her, there was an identical one sitting next to it and quickly Honey scrabbled up and went to sit upright and wonder what she should do.
The longer she had the time to look at the wood monsters, the more human they became with their dresses, pants, blouses, their faces and even the facial expression could be of something that would explain for Honey for them to be human. Were they here for the role of wood monsters, she thought this would be the oasis where she would hide as a princess from the dessert and feel more at home. Heck she even had to sing a musical song about it but at the moment she felt more like singing a heartbreaking song about it. "H-Hi." She said, normally not the shy type she was simply not sure what there was going on and she had just been crying because she was lost. She held up her hand, spread out all her five short fingers in an international sign of hello, or so she thought, it was true right? As if these two were aliens... she wouldn't even be surprised because Honey believed everything. "I am Honey." What more could she say to the two that stared at her, "I am lost." That was a good thing, she remembered that it was maybe smart to simply point out things she immediately felt like it mattered, compliments, statements and facts, and this one was a big one. "Do-Do you know where the parking lot is?" She asked, did they care, were they going to eat her! No, no Honey, we just realized they were human. But they looked a little str, oooh that was their quirk! Why did she not think about that before! She was of course holding her own tail, she looked like a human squirrel, she just simply forgot, she nodded to herself, yes, she simply forgot! MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

351 words ft. honey hirano Suzume rose slowly, until both she and Ayame were standing together, watching the small squirrel-creature before them. The squirrel-creature righted themselves too, and the twins stared at her, there eyes round and unreadable. After what seemed like a long moment, the twins glanced at one another, volleying their thoughts on the newcomer back and forth.
Clothes squirrel.
People squirrel.
Weird.
Don't like it.
Not like squirrel squirrel.
And then the squirrel spoke. The sisters snapped to attention once again.
She spoke in slow, deliberate sentences-- first, offering a greeting and a raised hand. Then, she offered her name, her reason for behing there, and a question. The sisters understood most of what was said... though they had no frame of reference for the word "parking lot". The sisters glanced back at one another again.
"Hhhh-" Suzume began. Her voice was like the wind in the trees, a great and raspy explosion of noise, "Hhhhiiii."
Despite all the effort she put into greeting the other girl, that was the best, loudest greeting she could muster. Suzume placed a hand to her throat. Ayame shook her head. The two moved inquiringly closer, bent at the waist to get a closer look at the other girl. When they were within a meter of her, they sank fluidly to the ground, crossing their legs. She wasn't a threat, they'd decided.
Ayame was the first to act, beginning an elaborate pantomime. She gestured to Suzume, then to herself, and brought her hands to her throat, sticking her black tongue out. Neither of them could really speak. She pulled a mushroom from the crown of her head, small and white, and held it with the stem towards her ear. With her free hand, she extended an index finger skyward, and waggled it from her mouth towards the squirrel. With this, they could talk.
Then, Ayame held the mushroom out towards the weird squirrel, an offering of good faith.
Is... a good idea? Suzume pressed, looking towards her sister.
Only until she is found, Ayame assured her sister. Whether she would accept it or decline it was something else entirely.

● waiting, waiting... i fall asleep She did not know what to think of the girls and their clothing. She wasn't a type to judge, she was simply raised to wear pretty clothing but if she would pick things for herself, she would be okay with not doing that. She would run around the woods and so on but she simply wasn't allowed to do that. She decided to just introduce herself, be polite and ask for the way to the parking lot. She still had not heard people screaming her name so apparently they were not doing that while trying to find her or they were still discovering the woods themselves without trying to find her, which was... well it was what it was. So she said her name was Honey and watched both girls, they could understand her right? Or did they not speak Japanese? She could speak English but that was about it for now and there was just as much as she could say and mostly she learned from television and songs.
She jumped a little backwards when one of them said hi, it was like they had not used their voice in ages... they could not be much older than her could they be? Now the thing was that she looked very young and they looked... dirty, it was hard to consider and she wasn't sure what to say but now that she learned that one of the two had said hi to her, she simply smiled at them brightly. Maybe they would know the way to get her out!
However, Honey did not understand their behaviour, they walked strangely towards her or should she call it crawling and they finally sank to the ground, set crossed-legged and stared at her. Felt like some sort of special meeting and she dropped herself back to but sat on her knees and stared at the two girls. What should she say next? Parking lot? The way out, there might be too many way outs and she would be lost again. But before she could say anything, the other one from saying hi gave her some sort of mime show and Honey stared with big eyes at the girls.
Pointing at the two of them. Their thro- holy a black tongue! She followed the gestures, the mushroom and to her ear.. Honey moved her hand up to her own ear, could they hear mushrooms! But the next gestures made no sense of that... Oooooh! She decided to nod and wonder if she understood it completely, playing an actress in a world of fantasy, surely made it a lot easier to have a big imagination. As the girl offered her the mushroom, Honey scooted closer and took it, "Do I put this in my ear?" She asked out loud because they seemed to understand what she meant, could she hear them speak in that case. She held it up to her ear, it felt weird to put something like that in her ear, she might have done it when she was younger though but how would that work out now. She waited for a response before she would do what they suggested. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

The twins nodded as the girl guessed their intent. Yes! That was exactly what she needed to do! She took the mushroom from Suzume, and began to slide the mushroom stalk-first into her ear canal. Filaments at the base of the mushroom would begin to sway, sensing a new place to take root. Honey's ear might itch as the root took hold, a soft rustling accompanying it, but once the connection was made, the sound and the sensation would subside.
'Did it work?' Ayame asked, rising from her crouched position? Her voice, however psychic, was murmurous, and would sound to be just over Honey's shoulder. Ayame "spoke" somewhat coolly, as if the success of the connection didn't affect her one way or the other. Her body language conveyed the same disinterest, only a passing glance being given to the squirrel-girl before she gazed off into the trees.
'Let's ask her,' Suzume insisted, bright orange eyes turning from her sister to the new girl. Her voice was decidedly more lively, and a toothy smile broke across her features, 'Ho-ney. Did it work?'
Suzume lingered too close to the new girl, pivoting in her crouched position to get a closer look at the mushroom. It certainly looked as though the mushroom had taken root.

● waiting, waiting... i fall asleep It wasn't every day that you put a mushroom in your ear, not that it was every day that you bumped into a twin that looked rather green than human pale or brown or any other colour that Honey knew, but to be fair, for them it wasn't probably every day that they bumped into a squirrel girl. So the twin nodded and she put up a brave face: or well she frowned, closed her eyes, reopened one and pushed the mushroom in her ear. Ew! It felt dirty and cold and strange and like a little dry worm that now reached into her ear, she shivered, she wasn't made for this, it must take all the space of her small ear that was on top of her head, almost hidden by her brown hair but it was there none the less, a squirrel ear too. It itched as well and she wanted to pull it out but she did not as she tried to sit still as well as possible, her hands holding on to her legs, so she could not pluck it out and destroy the effort. Patience was difficult for Honey but not impossible.
She looked over her shoulder when she thought she heard something but as the mushroom was still making its way in her ear canal it took a bit but once it sat there, it was right at the moment that Suzume spoke her name and she stared at her. Not that she knew her name but the way she smiled, Honey thought it would be that girl and she nodded, "Y-yes." She wasn't shy, she would be enthusiastic in a few seconds but it felt weird and she wasn't sure how this worked with the girls, "This is your quirk?" She looked more at Suzume now because she was the one speaking to her but she did not want to ignore Ayame. What an idea what was going on but now she still was lost in the middle of the forest without a way out and so on.
Hmm maybe she could make more clear what happened to the two, no wait, they had understood her, she had just not understood them entirely, that did not change a thing, that meant she was still lost in the forest.. what if there will be mushrooms growing from her ears and hair too, she wanted to go hoooooooommmmeeeeee! 241 words ft. honey hirano When the squirrel person answered the twins aloud, they jostled each other excitedly, Suzume repeatedly patting her sister's shoulder, Ayame grinning. The two seemed entirely unaware of the stranger's discomfort over having a fungus take root in their ear canal/brain, too lost in the excitement of inviting someone new into the hivemind.
'It worked!' Suzume psychically proclaimed.
'I noticed,' her sister thought smugly. They turned their gazes back to Honey.
'This is something we do,' Ayame advised the girl, linking her arm around her sister's waist. She allowed her smile to become more subdued, 'We talk like this. Not with our mouths.'
They didn't know what "quirks" meant, but they assumed she was asking about why they were speaking now, but couldn't before.
'We want to help,' Suzume supplied, 'But it is hard to help with no talk. Yes?'
Suzume offered a grubby hand to the girl, as a gesture of goodwill, blissfully unaware of the fact that her hand was, in fact, grubby.
'You are lost,' Ayame reiterated plainly, 'Where are you trying to find? We live in the trees, so we know them very well.'
She meant in the woods, but didn't know that there was anything other than the trees.
'A different tree?' Suzume guessed. The girl had a squirrel tail, after all.
'Or a burrow?' Ayame agreed.
There was no inkling of meanness in their tones. They genuinely didn't understand where the girl wanted to go.

● waiting, waiting... i fall asleep It was very strange, and she winced a little when she heard their voices, it wasn't that they were very loud, no the tone of their speech was perfect but it was just something so weird and she had the need to look over her shoulder while the twin stood right in front of her. She looked from one to the other and wasn't sure what to say about it in general. She was still lost within this forest, which was bigger and if they could only now film her, they would have the perfect set up of the movie. The whole reason why they were here, she would be a princess from a made up land that was in a dessert and she would be kidnapped to a forest, which would be here in Japan, well she was lost as well now. It made her tired that she felt so stressful and her tail looked a little static as she was still not convinced she would find her way out. Her mother's voice carried a lot of ground, especially after always yelling for her but now Honey still did not hear her name being screamed through the leaves. For a short second she wondered if her mother left her but that thought was only based on stress, it wasn't really there.
We talk like this, not with our mouths. Ha interesting. She tried to stay positive, at least she could hear them talk now and explain what she was trying to find and hearing their answer which made it a lot easier now for sure. She nodded, still not sure what to say especially not when they did not answer her quirk question. She nodded again, like one of them said, she had no idea who was who obviously they would not be able to help her if they couldn't talk. But now they could hear each other, albeit Honey was lost for words.
She looked at the hand that Suzume extended to her and well it was grubby but it wasn't as if Honey was still a hundred percent clean after walking around in the forest, she after all had already lost her shoes. She took the hand and wasn't sure if it was the idea to shake it but she did so, "Well nice to hear you two talk." Even if they talked a little strange.
"I am looking for eh." She had to think, they spoke of trees, not the woods, but they seem to know them all, how to describe the parking lot. "Do you know the place where the trees stop and the ground is hard and black?" They must know, it might not be their favourite place but that's where the bus was. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Two slitted smiles reflected on the twins' faces. Their voices could be heard by squirrel girls. She accepted the proffered hand before explaining that she was looking for a place "where the trees stopped and the ground became hard and black". Suzume's face broke into a dagger-like smile, Ayame huffed in amusement.
'The road?' Ayame supplied. Leave it to a squirrel, to not know what a road was. Perhaps that was why so many squirrels died in the road, because they didn't know what it was. The twins knew what it was from women who yelled for their children to, "Stay close to camp! Don't play in the road."
'Not safe for squirrels,' Suzume murmured gravely.
Ayame swatted at her sister. That was besides the point, 'There are many roads in the trees. Which road do you want? A road with camp?'
'A road where cars sleep?'
'A road where cars fly?'
Though their vocabulary was limited, it was clear that their knowledge of the woods was rather extensive. They were like urban foxes, living alongside humanity but interacting with it as sparingly as possible.
Whatever directive Honey might provide, the response would be the same.
'We know the place,' Ayame would declare, 'Come. Follow us.'
Suzume would offer another disgusting hand and, should their petite companion accept it, Suzume would clasp Honey's hand and start leading her along the narrow trail.

● waiting, waiting... i fall asleep Okay this was one of the new experiences and she wasn't sure if she liked it. Repeating that it was just a movie was something that might work rather well. It was only hard for the hyperactive, forgetful squirrel to do that every five seconds but well for as long as she did, it worked. It's just a movie, just for a movie, just for a movie. It's just a movie. And so on for a couple of times. How to explain what she was looking for though, so she tried her best, no trees, hard black road, yes, no not road, just ground. She shook her head, even better. She stared at Ayame, when she said road, "That's it." How did she know, oof she had underestimated the lack of well knowledge of what the plant twins would know when it came to official words. How would they else be able to communicate with her, Honey, she thought to herself, lidded her eyes a little to try to hide her own angry talk at herself. She nodded, yea not safe for squirrels, but she was not only a squirrel she was human too. But she wasn't sure how she would convince the two.
With camp? There was a camp near by? That's not where they stopped, right? Or did they? Hmm she wasn't sure now but where cars sleep, that made more sense, heck they even knew what cars were. "Is the road with camp at the same place with the road where cars sleep?" She decided to ask, if there were two parking lots, she might be more screwed than she thought before or well, she thought she was completely lost but now she had help so it could be... worse? Figuring out it was not, Honey picked the place where cars sleep and she would nod and consider to follow the twin, that was the best idea.
She would take Suzume her hand again and let her sort of guide her, it was a lot less scary but it was dirty and scary when you considered what was peeking in her ear and brain and... oh they would probably know that too, where her thoughts save? Not that she thought anything bad, right? She should not consider it and focused on where she was walking, step over this rock, dodge this tree branch, would she be able to climb up and see the parking lot? That would be useful, jump over this fallen tree, and so on, she followed the two before her. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS
