sometimes you want to go WHERE EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME
They were finally here. The last act of the night. Delta breathed in deep, breathed out. This was it, the finale, the cap on this wonderful night, on this night that had been everything she wanted it to be. Truly, she wished to thank everyone for making it that way, but not yet. Right now, she had a few final duties to fulfill. One of which, was welcoming on stage the bombastic finisher. The band to knock the socks off the audience and leave them breathless at the end of the night. OD Hazard. Breath in, breath out. Showtime. Delta took the stage for the last introduction, grabbing the mic with gusto and a fiery look in her lone amber eye. ”Alright, lovelies, let’s get right to the finisher! You’ve all been amazing tonight, so please, keep delivering for the final group! For the band to rock this bar right!” The band that contained an employee, and the child of a friend of hers, so naturally Delta was biased in thinking it was going to be great already. Or perhaps she just had that much faith in the energy the bar provided. ”Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together, for OD Hazard!”Their equipment was set up, they just needed to take the stage, and raise the roof! Dear performer, this act is now in your hands!- The performer will post after this introductory post, to begin their performance - From there, they will give a window for spectators to post (i.e. 48 hours) after which the performer is expected to post again! - This repeats until the performance is done! - Dear performers, please, choose a posting window that suits your own posting habits - aim to complete this performance in ~2 weeks, 3 max. - And most importantly... Have fun!0000 WORDS |

Jack in. Megaman, execu-- wait, wrong franchise. BZZZZZ, answered the amp in protest to Darren plugging his bass second. Every musician worth they salt knew you was supposed to plug the bass first, and then the amp second, to avoid the white noise from the male jack finding his way inside the female jack hole on the instrument. If you think this is dirty, you’re correct, but it’s actually the technical terms for plugs: male for the end with the protrusion that goes in, female for the hole which you put it into… For obvious reasons. The reason Darren was distracting himself with dirty observations about the etymology of male and female jacks was simple and old as time: stage fright. It was funny. Darren had no trouble going up to fight in front of cameras in the sport festival, or to complete Cian-sensei’s training courses while the whole class was watching. When it came to fighting, Darren was confident. He knew he was strong. When it came to this kind of stuff, however… It was not that he doubted his skill with the bass. He had been practicing after the tournament, when he was prescribed a lot of rest, and during the vacations -- for the same reason. It was a nice way as any to pass the time, helped keep his mind sharp and it alleviated the twitchy feeling he got in his hands when he was away from a sandbag for too long. He had even gotten good enough to play some Primus songs! Truly a wonder of nature this awesome predator. It was not that he doubted his bandmates either. Eli was solid as ever, and he had an easy nonverbal communication with Miku that let the rhythm section they formed together click. And of course, Chimmy was always laying it on thick with the kind of vocal performance that made or break a band, and, as much as he’d never admit it, he provided a nice emotional counterbalance to a band that would, let’s be honest, otherwise overrun by his bullshit. They were all still backstage, which in this type of venue just meant “behind the scene, half-hidden by the platform. The provider of bullshit in chief assembled his band members around for the kind of rousing speeches of which he had the secret. “Alright you dickheads, I don’t know if it’s my mom who pulled strings but this here bar made the correct decision of having us as the finale act, so we’re about to fuckin’ deliver. I don’t need to tell y’all what to do, you all know your shit. This is an important song.” He shot a glance at Chimmy. “We won’t mess it up. Now let’s get up here and blow them away like a cheap hooker!” He extended a fist for a cliché “all four bandmate bump it before going onstage”. Clichés were clichés for a reason, after all: they fucking worked. Those who knew Darren for a while probably realized it by now, but his language got worse the more uncomfortable he gets. He ridiculed and joked about the things he didn’t want to think about, turning them in derision, only acknowledging them through half-looks and nods, and, well, through his choice of song. The truth was he didn’t pick Paint It Black, a rocking yet lancinant and melancholic song for no reason. As much as he liked to play the tough, emotionless masculine cliché, and as much as psychopathy legitimately dulled some of his emotions, he was in the end only human. He had witnessed death before, graphic death, even dreaming about playing football with a severed head after the sharkman incident, but it had never been someone close. Levi was different. He played music with Levi. He took her place on the drums when she bickered him enough about it. Levi was a real person, a former student of UA. And now she was dead. And Aki had been stabbed by this painter villain -- he reminded himself to cover the graffiti he spied the other day one of these nights. Perhaps characteristically of him, it was less sadness and more anger that he felt. The students of Yuuei were his people, the one school in which his aptitude for violence was valued and respected. And again very characteristically, another misguided way Darren expressed that love was with protective violence. But tonight wasn’t the night for that. Tonight was a night for music and homage. And so he stepped onstage with the rest of the band, approached the mic, and, of course, true to himself, said something stupid. “We’re OD Hazard and we’re about to rock out with our cocks out! Figuratively. I’m Daimon Darren, and on the guitar is The Blondie Formerly Known As Ginger, good old Eli and his totally legit golden locks. Behind us is the world’s tallest -- and meanest, don’t trust her looks -- beansprout on the drums, our very own Miku! And ladies -- as well as a few gentlemen I’m sure, wink wink -- the one you all came here tonight for, the man, the goat, the rabbit, and a lot of other things, the one and only, Satan Mercury! Contain your drool to the confines of your mouth, please and thank you!” He stepped away from the mic with only half the grin he usually wore after torturing his singer with his favorite nickname. He wasn’t good at emotion, alright? That was Chimmy’s domain. Jokes were easier. And now he only had to retreat behind his bass anyway. Let his fingers do the talking. Once the audience quieted, the first notes of the rock classic started filling the room, drums and bass coming in to supplement the guitar riff before everyone's favorite Satan Mercury would take it away.

444 WC Hi four is death trope | Being the last act of the night was both the best and most terrifying position for any band or performance. As the last, you were remembered the clearest by the audience. You had the weight of every other act before you on your chest. It was great if you were confident that you would be the best of the night, worthy of being what everyone else walked away with, but it didn't make it any less stressful. Chimera was sure OD Hazard was perfect for such an honor.
That wasn't what was making him fidget with his claws. Not the stress of singing itself, but more so what they were singing. Who they were singing for.
Her funeral felt like it was yesterday.
Had it really been weeks ago?
Had it really been December since he'd last seen her?
Has it really--
Stop, he drew in a slow breath, red eyes focused on the owner of the bar as she wrapped up their introductions, Don't think about it. Just have fun tonight.
He followed behind Darren and walked up to the microphone stand, raising it enough and setting it a little more in front of him than was normal for people, thanks to the length of his muzzle. The familiar static of jacks being plugged in and the roll of strings being tuned helped to provide white noise that drowned out the rest of his thoughts. It was just another song. Just another night with his friends, singing his heart out, putting on one hell of a show. This was good.
This was normal.
Like last time Darren ran up to shout something into the mic, and this time, as opposed to the sports festival, Chimera was ready for the ridiculous crap that came tumbling out of Darren's big mouth. "Still not my stage name," he countered like clockwork, then returned to the mic as Darren stepped away. One more roll of chords, one more deep breath in and out, one more look out into the audience. He could see their eyes reflecting the lights that blinded him, their outlines and defined features blurred. It was different than the sports festival--smaller, more intimate, less space between him and the crowd--yet still the same feeling of heat from the spotlight, the vibration from the speakers.
The riff played and Chimera breathed in.
This is good.
"I see a red door and I want it Painted Black... No colors anymore, I want them to turn black..."
This is normal.
"I see the girls walk by Dressed in their summer clothes. I have to turn my head Until my darkness goes..."
Don't think about it.

Miku had baggage, plenty of it. First the trauma that b-word of a person did when she wanted to mange her hand, then her parents splitting up and then finding out Levi's funeral is at the same day as Miku's birthday. Well... things didnt happen in that order, but there was plenty of stuff going on at once, and all of that stuff was bad stuff.
Not only that but OD Hazard was performing here at the Forth Corner, and they were the very last act to play. The grand finale. No pressure.... yeah no, ALL OF THE PRESSURE. Each one handled it their own way. Everyone was shaken up by Levi's departure. Her funeral... April 20th. Same day as Miku's birthday... god, that creates a bad taste in Miku's mouth. If she was alone in her dorm, she'd probably scream and cry. But she wasnt alone in her dorm, she was backstage with her bandmates. And they had to prepare to perform, she couldnt afford to break down. She looked at her hand, and then at the others to make sure they couldnt see it, her left hand still trembling and shaking uncontrollably from that battle; Darrens little joke at the beginning also didnt help. She grabbed her hand to stop it from shaking and took a deep breath to focus. The show must go on. They have to perform. She has to perform, she knew her 'parents' but not really, were there waiting for her performance. G and Hana...her mish mash of a family that was broken. They came here to watch her, each at their own table, seperate from one another, unable to stand eachother. But they came to see her. NO FRIGGIN PRESSURE MIKU.
Miku took a final deep breath. Inhale. Exhale. Before she went on the stage with the rest of the band. She was there at the drums when Darren introduced everyone. She just looked at her drums and focused. She wanted to ignore everyone and just play. She wished no one could see her. Is that the reason there's a metal band that plays with masks on their face?

Unlike the rest of the members of OD Hazard, Eli wasn't particularly sad about Levi's death. It wasn't that he took death lightly or anything it was just the fact that he had never met the victim. Hell he wasn't even aware most of them knew Levi until they all seemed sappy, excluding Darren who seemed to be taking it well on the surface. Eli couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking in that head of his. Still, they had a performance to do. Despite the recent loss of a friend for most of the group, they carried on with little hesitation.
The tune that they had chosen to play was simple for the guitarist, Paint it, Black by The Rolling Stones. It was obvious why the other three had chosen it, it was a way for them to pay their respects to their friend. In a way, it was their final goodbye. Eli shook his head, this wasn't the time for sad thoughts, they were gonna rock that stage! He grabbed his guitar as they moved from backstage to where they would be performing. The audience was nice, but not near as big as his first performance. While he was still nervous, it was significantly less than before. Darren plugged his guitar in, and a resulting screech emitted from the amp.
His roommate introduced the band, starting with himself, then mentioning Eli with his new hair color, Miku and finally Satan Mercury himself. Finally he stepped away, allowing the goat boy to step up to the mic and steal the show. Eli didn't have anyone here to play for, but he still had to give his all out of respect for the others that were mourning if nothing else. He strapped on his guitar, played a few notes for tuning, then gave Chimera a smile to show he was ready. Once they were all ready to go, he started playing the riff. He focused on his playing, Chimera's voice filling his ears. They all had baggage, but this performance was no different then the others. They did it before, and they would do just as good this time.

Now, Kirk had been feeling kind of lost in the big crowd of people. As much as he could see over them, he couldn't see the right people that he needed to pull himself in the right direction. However, there was one thing Kirk wasn't and in that, his brain got a little bit of a sporty jolt! He had promised to his bro, that he would be there to watch his show, so that was what he was going to do! He knew that they were gonna be the last showing, so it had to be some sort of big event! And the familiar sound of the lady in charge of the place rang through, informing how amazing the night had been. Yeah, it had been real amazing in the music department, atleast! Had his attention full of head turning ventures! Although, with a distinct lack of his bro, and the hard time finding the rest of his friends occasionally, it had been a wonky one thats for sure.
But then came the announcement: OD hazard was on its way! The first time he was gonna be hearing the music in this sort of setting! He quickly joined the applauding crowd, shouting his own "YEEHAW! WOO!" In there occasionally, as he brofisted towards the roof! He was already hyped. An admittedly somewhat easy deed, but the amount of waiting for this moment, had pretty much had the hype fuel in him bubbling for a long time!
And then he heard the first step on the stage, and there came his bro, with a bass in his hands! "BRO!" He shouted, pointing at himself, like reassuring him, that he was indeed watching! Kirk would have their back in case the rest of the crowd didn't take the show too well! That was something he could silently promise! Of course, Darren couldn't immediately answer, with a mic in his mouth introducing others to him, surprisingly, every person somebody he knew in some fashion! Eli had changed an awful lot, and Kirk chuckled a little at the "former blondie" comment. Hadn't his hair always been brown? Next up was Miku, one of the two girls that Darren had fought against during the tournament... It was sort of a relief to see that they were still ready to do something like this together! "You can do it Eli! Miku too! Show us what you've cooked up!" There was also the fact, that Miku was Akios girlfriend! Brocode dictated that she cheered at her, like he himself was on the stage!
Then, there was Chimera... Or well as Darren called him, Satan! Kirk looked a bit devastated, by hearing a fellow sports club member being called names like that... But, Kirk himself knew, what he should do! "Give em a big kickoff, dude! GIVE EM MY LEVEL OF VOICE! MAKE SURE THE CROWD HEARS!" He was the singer seemingly, so that was pretty good advice to give in his opinion!
Now admittedly, Kirk had expected his ears to be blasted off by some sort of heavy metal song. He wasn't exactly good at that sort of music... instead it was this very quick plucking, and the rhythm was clear... occasionally the song sounded outright sad, but sometimes the beat was hard enough to get into kirks reflex inducing section of his brain... he could feel his foot stamping against the ground as he shook his head to the beat! eventually, he was like cowboy, Lifting his leg up high, stomping the ground to every second beat, and clapping at the same time! Something to hype up the crowd to do the same! He didn't know the words...
But he did understand timing and rhythm of a well placed swing of the leg!

all the pieces lie where they fell... ♥ She did not want to say finally but FINALLY the night was going to end. She wished she had listened to Haruuhi and just stood up and left with her, she could offer her a ride home before going back to the outskirts of Tokyo's suburbs and back to her home or well her new home, the home of her aunt and uncle. She wasn't sure what to do now that the apartment was rented but she missed her penthouse, but most of all, she missed his house. She missed him but she set up straight or more like rigid and her eyes staring at the blonde in the back, of course, the drummer would not been seen very well but she could make out Miku and she held her own hands in front of her. It was good she had listened to Delta to come but she wasn't sure if Miku was actually happy that she was here now. Maybe she did not see her and maybe that was for the better. She tried to focus on the other students, so classmates of Miku, she had not paid much attention to the other students during the sports festival but the song gave her goosebumps, it was nicely performed but there were moments where it just made her feel sad. She had expected a bit of an upbeat tempo, but of course the performance wasn't over yet and she had to focus on the fact that she should make a few notes if she would write down the things for her blog, in the near future, when she could focus. She tried to focus on each of them for once, but she only listened to the melody and the voice that was singing, surely to be fair, the singer was a sight to see but only Hanako had eyes for the blonde in the back. She did hear the song, she did try to pay attention to the lyrics, hoping that the next song would distract her better.

At last, the final performance of the night, and the one to wrap it all up. There was that phrase 'saving the best for last', and Kenshin was curious to see if this final act would live up to that. Either way, the boy was eager to listen to OD Hazard and see just what kind of performance they would put on. Upon looking at the performers, Kenshin smiled upon recognizing some of them. The first he recognized was his friend Miku. He had no doubt that she would kick some ass with her drumming. Then there was that guy Darren that he met earlier. As a fellow bass player, Kenshin looked forward to seeing the guy jam. The other two were not people Kenshin knew personally. A blond guy who was going to be playing the guitar, and then there was the singer. This guy was distinct in both the fact that he was the only person on stage who wasn't a blonde, and the fact that he kinda resembled a goat. Pretty damn metal in Kenshin's opinion, especially with a name like Satan Mercury. Once the band started playing, it did not take long for Kenshin to recognize the song. Ah, Paint it, Black. I love this song! Such a classic! The boy could not help but shake his head a bit in a light headbanging motion, tapping his foot in tune with the drums while quietly humming the lyrics, and grinning like a maniac. Once the song ended, it was like Kenshin was in a life or death battle to make sure that his clapping and cheering was the loudest. "WOO!" That was freaking awesome! The boy was very excited. He could not wait to hear more of what OD Hazard had to deliver. They were undoubtedly going to end off the music night in a glorious bang. @tagged | Word count: 311

It was finally the last act of the evening and apparently they would be treated to the performance of a band. At the back of her head Karen was already expecting that this might be yet another UA group or at least led by a student. Surprise surprise, she not only recognized Darren walking up to the mic to introduce the group but also the girl on the drums Miku whom she recently found out was a student at UA too. As for the other two members, this would be Karen's first time seeing them in person but she had spotted them quite a few times talking in chat. The entire band was made up of students. This was definitely a great way to cap off the not-UA-exclusive Music Night and she couldn't wait to see what they had in store. Shouting and cheers from the crowd would tell Karen that their band or at least the members were well-known and well-liked. Among them was the easy to recognize upperclassman Kirk. She had already noticed him earlier in the evening but he was cheering awfully loudly this time. It reminded her that he was classmates with most of the members so of course he'd double down on the support. Their band set up was pretty basic. One on bass, one on guitar, one on drums and a singer took positions on the stage. The song that played was an old classic. She didn't know it by title but it was very familiar. More than likely she had heard it before playing in her father's study. He had those days when he had songs like this on while he was working or relaxing. Listening to the lyrics though, she couldn't help but feel there was something very genuine about the emotion being projected by the group as they performed. From the vocals to the individual instruments, they were all very talented. From a skills perspective, they were definitely a cut above a lot of the performers. But playing together? Karen could definitely feel things. She didn't know the story behind it but there was something about this first song that really resonated. When the song came to an end, Karen found herself giving a small applause. There was no reason to clap harder. The venue was pretty much doing that already. For now she was content with getting swept up in it all. The next song ought to be good too.

Well, it was finally time. The band was gonna play, about the fucking time. G has waited just for this. He didnt expect Miku's band to be the last one. Ah well. G watched eagerly and curiously, he saw that one guy. He was on the stage and went to present the band "We’re OD Hazard and we’re about to rock out with our cocks out!..." G immediatelly death glared at the punk kid. Now he remembered what rock bands are like. And Miku was the only girl in that band. That wont do! But then luckily whats-his-face finished his sentence "Figuratively." which was a sigh of relief to G internally. But externally he was still stern as ever "Good" he said to himself as he sat back and crossed his arms
Once the whole band was presented, Satan Mercury approached the mic and the first thing he said was "Still not my stage name," which made G roll his eyes "Lame" he commented. Its not like the band can hear him. But seriously, why cant the goat bunny dog monster chimera just roll with it and go with the nickname??
Well, whatever the song started. It was a good song, classic. G focused more on the instrumental of the song rather then the singing. Since Miku played the drums and Eli the guitar. One was his daughter and the other his student, who coincidentally played the same instrument as him. Then there's the bass blondie whats-his-face that G forgot his name. It was english and super generic. Damon... Desmond... Dasomething. Da whatever.
Though, G couldnt appreciate the song as much and listen to the notes and chords as this other guy kept screaming DUDE BRO AAAYY YYAAY. Which just made G cringe. But he heard the loud one say Miku. Which made G look in the direction of the voice. Another UA student? Possibly. Then there was Hana who he saw.... he... just looked back at the stage and the band

(Song ain’t over yall)
Darren acknowledged Kirk’s vocal support with the old snap of the fingers into a finger gun pointed at his sports mate before he left the stand, Chimmy commented that it wasn’t his stage name, and the song began. He vaguely recognized some other faces in the crowd, but his attention was quickly spirited away by his instrument.
Paint it Black’s bassline wasn’t the most complicated, and in the original Stones mix not the easiest to hear, but it was groovy and almost constant, as a good rock bassline ought to be; a solid rhythmic base marching in lockstep with the drums, a safe launching platform for the wilder guitar licks and emotional voice work of the solists. If the drummer was the heart, the engine of the band, the bassist was the gearbox and transmission, putting that rhythmic power down on the ground for the guitarist and the singer -- steering and driver -- to bring it to life. As good as the solists were, they could only go so far as the rhythm section could take them, and even the best rhythmic section wouldn’t excite no one without good solists.
It was a humbling experience, really, something that idols and solo performers could never understand. Darren’s fingers danced along the fretboard, but instead of the usual low bouncing notes coming out of his amp alone played the lancinant sitar-like guitar, the pounding drums and Chimera’s powerful voice, at once lamenting and energetic, angry and lost, confident and insecure, bright and dark, many things at once, like… A chimera.
For a second Darren smiled a bright smile, looking over his band from the right-hand side of the stage. It then turned into a slight frown.
Something wasn’t right. It didn’t sound like practice -- well, no, it did, but something was off. A second of auditive investigation revealed that it came from Chimmy’s return. He wasn’t singing like usual, or… He was, actually, but there was an imperceptible note of strain in there that was only growing more noticeable. As if the goat boy was forcing the words out his throat while he was singing. Something was definitely off with him.
Still plucking along to the beat of the drums, Darren took a few steps forward, which was not uncharacteristic for a rock band concerned with stage presence: he was one of the more energetic members and most comfortable playing his instrument while tricking along a la Flea, but here his objective was less to entertain the public and more to get a better look at Chimmy’s face from the side, a slightly concerned look of “wtf dude” on his face.

685 WC Sorry goatboi fans | Every eye in the place--or at least, those who were here for the festival--were on them. Claps and cheers and the occasional familiar voice reached Chimera from under the thrum of the guitars and tempo of the drums. It felt good, like this was how it was supposed to be...that was what he told himself, at least. He didn't smile as he sung; not only did it not fit the message of the song to have a bright, cheerful grin on his muzzle, but even if he did, he couldn't force it and focus at the same time. Just singing. He just needed to keep singing, and everything would be alright. He was happy. He was fine. This was fine.
"I see a line of cars And they're all painted black. With flowers and my love Both never to come back."
Never.
His voice grew ever so slightly more strained. It was just like it had been at practice--yes, the lyrics were sad, yes they were dark, but it wasn't like he hadn't been singing them since Darren had chosen it as their song tonight. He'd practiced. They all had. Yet it didn't feel right this time. His eyes darted through the crowd as the next line slipped from his lips. Had anyone noticed?
"I see people turn their heads And quickly look away. Like a new born baby It just happens ev'ry day..."
No. Nobody noticed. It was fine. Chimera was a damn good singer. Even straining to keep the energy in his voice he sounded fine to an unknowing ear.
"I look inside myself and See my heart is black. I see my red door I must have it painted black."
...unknowing...
Chimera glanced to his right, where he noticed movement in his peripheral vision. Darren had stepped forward and was looking right back at him. The look on his face said it all. He had noticed the change. Chimera swallowed his next breath, and, swiftly looking away, pushed his voice out harder. Forced it.
Don't look at me like that. I'm fine. We're fine. Nothing's wrong.
Nothing is wrong!
"Maybe then I'll fade away And not have to face the facts. It's not easy facin' up When your whole world is black."
"No more will my green sea Go to a deeper blue..."
He looked out into the audience. An audience of strangers, but also of his classmates. His friends. He counted faces that he recognized. Here and there, some he knew well, some only in passing. Some dear to him, some not.
But in the crowd...
"I could not foresee This thing happening--"
...there was one face missing.
It'll always be missing. It'll always be gone. She's never going to be in the crowd again. She never was in the crowd. You couldn't have seen it. Not in that audience. But she wasn't there. Not then, not now, not ever. Because now and always and forever she'll be dead and I'll never see--
Chimera's voice hitched.
"--t-to..."
His throat tightened, and with a step back from the microphone, Chimera felt the whole stage shift, moving under his feet, without really moving at all. Was the room spinning? Or was it just the lights? His head felt hot. The lights. They were too bright. And spinning. Why wasn't there any music? His voice. He should still be singing. He wasn't. He wasn't even breathing. Why was his throat closed up? His vision wasn't blurry. He wasn't crying. Everything felt too clear, too crisp, too bright, too loud even though the music had stopped. Or had it not stopped? It was too loud to tell. Or was it too quiet...?
His legs weren't moving. Neither was the rest of him.
I'll never see her again.
Levi will never be here again.
She'll never see us play, she'll never be with us on stage, she'll never be mad at Darren, she'll never smile at me, she'll never become a hero, she'll never...
He took another step back. His eyes, pupils blown wide, met Darren's again.
He couldn't do this.

Miku tuned out the worl- no, the universe. She tuned it out and played her beat. After all the drummer was the heart of the band. She did glance up towards the crowd for a second, and there she could see her dad who probably looked towards Kirks direction, trying to spot the sporty boy.
She didnt thin about it as she looked down at her drums and played her bea. She had to focus and ignore everything. But something was off, she couldnt quite pin what was it, for some reason she felt something was wrong. But there was also another problem lurking. Her left hand, she gripped her drummy stick tightly there as she felt her hand wanted to tremble. Damn that Rin.
And then she heard something, she looked up at Chimmy, while Darren had a whole 'wtf you doin bro' kinda look on his face. Miku's expression was pure confusion. She tuned it the universe once again and noticed her surroundings fully. Thats why she was confused. And thats when she noticed Chimmy's voice which hitched.
Chimmy... he didnt look so good, what do they do? What does she do? What does anyone do? Of course all of these questions flooding her mind, caused her to just ever so slightly play off beat. Of course as the situation on the stage worsens, her beat will as well...

To put it in a sentence, the calm before the storm had ended. Everything was starting to fall apart, Chimmy was choking, Miku was off beat, Darren was trying to keep everything together. But what about Eli? What was he doing? The blonde had simply continued to play as usual, as if he hadn't noticed anything was going wrong. He shifted to Miku's new pace and continued doing so for the majority of the song, but it was starting to get harder and harder to play. Eventually, he finally tuned everything other than the instruments back in, noticing a jumping hype boy known as Kirk, G lurked in the audience, mostly for Miku most likely. Then he looked at the rest of his band mates...
Initially he thought Darrens look was to him, but then he saw Chim. His goat friend was a mess. Was there a way to save the song? Probably not. Was the idiotic blonde gonna try? Damn right he was. The boy turned his amp up just a little, enough so that he could try to cover Chimmy's singing, or at least the faults. It was for naught though, as Chimmy stepped back. Words that should've flown through easy weren't there. The reason to Eli, Miku, and Darren was obvious, but the audience had no idea. So Eli just continued playing, so what if the song turned into an instrumental. He was gonna power through! Eli shot Darren a confident smile, they could still do this!

It was like seeing a crash in slow motion. Poor Chimmy.
It was clear to from the goat’s glassy eyes and increasingly trembling delivery that he was emotionally affected, and for a second, the thought that picking Paint it Black was perhaps not the best idea in the world crossed Darren’s mind, but he quickly dismissed it with a “come on mate, in the middle of the show?”
The song went instrumental for a couple seconds as Chimmy choked and Darren’s mind ran accelerated to process the situation and find the best way to deal with it. Death affected him differently; he wasn’t one for crying and mourning, and more one to put on a performance to the memory of the dearly departed -- a convenient way to show some emotion, easily dismissable as showmanship if pressed on the subject.
So in those few seconds, Darren wasn’t thinking so much about protecting Chimmy’s feelings and more about saving this performance for Levi, any way he desperately could. Maybe she was snarking at them from above and making fun of them. That wouldn’t do. Making a split second decision, Darren jumped on the mic to deliver the last two lines.
“If I look hard enough into the settin' sun My love will laugh with me before the mornin' comes!”
He then quickly turned around to Eli and Miku, mouthing at them to do the hmm mmmh mmmmh part and we fuck off. Leading them into with the bassline, he mmh mmmhd in the mic a couple times before going, as the last notes of the song were dying: “And then it just goes mmmh mmmh mmh for a while. Good song amirite? Anyway we were OD Hazard, show’s over, our dear Satan Mercury has abused of his powers a little too much and he needs to rest back in hell, you know the deal. Bye!”
They then promptly fucked off the stage to focus on the next part of the evening: playing emergency Chimmy care unit. Darren chimed in first as soon as they reached backstage. “God damn it, you pulled a fast one on us. I think we saved it. Somewhat.” He didn’t sound very convinced. “What the hell was that anyway? You forget how to sing?”
Darren was not very good at this part of the evening.
