~ I want to line the pieces up - Yours & mine ~
"Hey, there's nothing to apologize for. It sounds like it was an overall shit situation. And you've got pregnancy hormones going on so that can't be helping." Elena tried to make light of the situation, even though all the whilst she spoke, the concern in her eyes didn't fade. Man. She wanted to ask for more details--who didn't when they heard about something like this, so dramatic and emotional and intense?--but at the same time she wanted to let Hanako have her privacy. She didn't need to ask the name of her baby daddy or ex or whatever they were to each other. She didn't need to know the specifics of what their break-up was over. It wasn't relevant right now. Elena could still help her and talk to her and comfort her without any of that info.
And that was what mattered most right now.
Elena turned her head to look around and, spotting the waiter who had taken their drink order going by another table, returned her attention to Hanako with a raised finger in the universal hand-sign of "give me one second". She then stood up and walked right up to the waitress. At first she looked confused--her expression, not Elena's own, being all Hanako could see at their angle--but it swiftly cleared, and with a compliant nod the waitress scurried to the kitchen, and Elena returned to the table.
"I hope you don't mind that I guessed your order, but I got the cutest looking cakes I could see on their menu for both of us. I think they're chocolate and strawberry or something. Should be here in a second." She smiled a little brighter. "If movies have taught me anything it's that eating a ton of sweets helps when you're in a bad place."
She leaned back a little in her chair, though she was still seated right next to Hanako rather than at the table itself. If she didn't have the details to really help pick apart Hanako's problem, then maybe giving something personal of her own, something she could empathize with, would help a little. And if it didn't, hopefully her sense of humor was dark enough to find some schadenfreude in it. It was an old scar at least.
"Y'know...for as bad as bursting into tears in the cafe in front of a relative stranger is, I think I've got you beat on the 'break down in public because of a guy' scale. I had a pretty great one right around last Christmas time. Unless you've had another one of these where you set fire to a park bench and a dead tree and had to hide in an alley for an hour 'til the fire department and police were gone. Then we may be on par."

all the pieces lie where they fell... ♥ Finally! Someone that understood how much of an emotional well what word would fit the best, she was considering her pregnancy! She wasn't a cry-baby, she normally never showed emotions and she hated it so much! She was emotional, she was scared so easily when she met the Yakuza princess again, it was ridiculous! And that were only two examples if you counted her moment here, but she nodded, yes, hormones because of her pregnancy were definitely not helping. "Ah." she said softly when Elena asked for one second or well said it and she almost took her hand to take her back, she managed to not do that and her gasp of surprise was simply inaudible soft and quiet. It could be a sigh for those that did not listen or were occupied with another small goal for her, she did not know. She made mistakes, she knew that and she also realized how much she liked Elena and wanted to be able to do something for her. She was glad to see her come back and well at least she stopped crying and listened carefully to what Elena had to say "I love chocolate and strawberry." She smiled and gave a little pat on her bump, "Especially now." And rolled her eyes but kept that hollow smile plastered on her face, so much for doing an interview. But yes, she had eaten ice cream and chocolate a lot the past few weeks so yes, she assumed it was right, and it was simply tasty. She took a sip of her tea, looked back at Elena and bit her lip, it was bad that she cried in front of her. But she was intrigued when the girl continued that she had done something worse. Her lower lip trembled, last Christmas... it was the first time she celebrated Christmas at all and at his pl- NO HANAKO FOCUS ON THE STORY! She bit her lip and simply eyed Elena, took in how she looked while listening to distract herself. She couldn't help but snicker a little, it was the sassy way in which Elena talked, "No can't say I have." She said with that smile and thus wrapped her hands back around the mug. "Thank you, I am sorry, it's just been so much on my mind and with no one really to talk to, it's simply waiting to be spilled out." How to get back to the conversation was beyond her but maybe she could just have a casual conversation anyway.

~ I want to line the pieces up - Yours & mine ~
Elena let a soft laugh free when Hanako lightly patted her stomach. "That's an even better reason then! Hey, have you had any insane cravings like they joke about on television? It's always something like pickles and peanut butter or ice-cream and ketchup. They all sound super gross. But there's supposed to be some science to it."
Just seeing the poor woman relax and smile again was an immense relief to Elena, and finally she could start thinking about something other than cheering her up. The need to help her hadn't passed but it wasn't devouring her brain. What was it she'd been thinking about before Hanako had started to cry? Right, which of the vigilantes she knew could be her baby's father. Wasn't her friends, wasn't the teenagers--God she hoped it wasn't the teenagers--definitely wasn't the penguin...right? She only knew one or two girls in the chat so those were out. Then it had to be that Gucci guy.
Hell, he had been on not a few weeks ago in a complete slump over his girlfriend leaving him. His pregnant girlfriend. There weren't enough vigilantes on the scene--at least in the Tokyo area--for it to be such a coincidence. Yet as perfectly pieced together as their stories appeared, several factors didn't line up. Why did he think she'd gotten rid of the baby? Why was she the one scared to go talk to him? Hadn't she broken up with him? Maybe the emotions had run too high, like today, and it ended up with her leaving him. Did he not know what a mess pregnancy hormones were? He'd been so excited to be a father, too, going on and on about it in the chat...
Man, this was not any of her business. He might have done something to hurt her emotionally or, heaven and hell protect him, possibly physically. Or maybe it really was just a big mess and Elena could do something to help. She'd need more info.
For now this would be enough. It would have to be.
"Again, for like the third time, it's no problem at all. Though your boss might get a bit snippy if you come back without an interview," Elena's smile turned a sheepish and she scratched at her scalp through her thick white hair, "Still. I'm not complaining. I don't have a lot of female friends these days so it's nice just talking to you. If you don't mind me assuming we can be friends." There was a small pause and Elena glanced upwards at the ceiling. More friends in the "scene" was dangerous. Just like she'd said, it was only a matter of time before somebody got hurt and she, too, was hurt because of it. But Hanako was Quirkless and seemed to be cautious enough for somebody who did interviews with wanted criminals. Could make an exception?
She'd already made an exception for Haku, then Yui, then Toma, then Mikhail...and now here she was wanting to make yet another exception. She's made so many that it was becoming the norm for her to make friends in this goddamn dangerous scene.
Oops.
"Si tu qu--ehem. If you want to be. So. Question two for the interview? Question one only took twenty minutes to wrap up, so hey, maybe we'll finish this by midnight."

all the pieces lie where they fell... ♥ She chuckled as their conversation was stirred into a direction that made her hold on to something, to their little one, without having to break down. Yes she knew what she did, which was the whole reason why they could not be together again, not fully, but that did not mean she did not love the baby. "Nothing strange really, everything dipped in chocolate will do. I woke G up in the middle of the night to get me a chocolate milkshake." She chuckled, "I thought he would be angry about it but he was really kind, almost tempting to do it again but I did not." She had not gained weight, now that was a miracle in one but maybe barely eating for so many weeks had made it okay that she ate chocolate, she would figure it out after the worst part of this: labour! Ice cream and peanut butter sounded great, the combinations that Elena mentioned, not so much. She gave Elena a sheepish smile because she had apologized for the third time, it wasn't that the others weren't there for but they did not seem to understand it so much and what could she say about all that, she felt relieved for the first time, that she did not have to be guilty of being pregnant. "Oh yes, good point." She would be disappointed in herself if she had nothing and looked at her notes, she had a lot of questions but not particularly for Elena anymore, albeit there were a few things she still considered, for some reason, just as with Bashira, she wanted to help. That's when she looked up surprised when Elena called her a friend and her surprised look quickly changed into a grin, "I don't mind, I am glad you think the same." She really hoped that this interview did not ruin her chances with Elena, she really liked talking to her and it would be high time that she fixed her English, she would ask G... eh well she would figure it out herself or ask Lisa. She laughed a little about their question one and nodded, "Is there this teamwork for your group or do you all work solo?" She wanted to know, G never told her anything and only once brought someone home which was Kenshin, still not entirely satisfied that he let a child handle the things yet send Miku and Haruuhi to school, little hypocrite but whatever, not her issue... anymore or ever would be. "I spoke to a vigilante months ago, he told me that there was a war coming, do you think so too?" It was a combination question because she wondered if they were sort of recruiting. Recruiting a group of vigilantes must come with a lot of danger, what if it was simply someone pretending to be a vigilante?

It would probably not go over well if her first response was "What kind of a name is G". Oh well. It was a joke to make at another time. Besides, this was the same person--she presumed--whose screen name was GucciGang420. Honestly the name 'G' was practically mundane in comparison. "Hell yes. When you're less pregnant, I'll take you out for some real drinks. I like tea as much as the next person, which may not be saying too much, but some topics are just better discussed with fruity liquor."
Like the subject of men. Especially the men she was subjected to.
"Teamwork...I don't think there are many proper 'teams'. Only one I know of is one my friend used to head. I've worked with a couple other solo runners before though. Not for anything big, but..." she shrugged her shoulders slightly, "It's risky business to be going about all by yourself for too long. Eventually you're going to need somebody to save you from something too big to handle alone. I think it's smart to know your 'colegas' before that point." Even if some of them were right bastards, those she had met in person seemed to be sane enough to be trusted. Most of the time.
The next quote Hanako gave Elena pause. A war? "A little dramatic, isn't that? Like something off of a sentai show." She lowered her head to smile, though it didn't quite reach her eyes. Although her words were teasing there was something tense behind it. A distaste for the words themselves. A war? On who? By who? She knew some of the more vocal members of the chat truly hated heroes as well as villains, but they wouldn't be going against the people on their own side, right? And that was what they were. Hero or vigilante, their goals were the same: ridding the world of criminals. Some more violently than others. "By any chance, was the person who said that going by the name Sunhawk? That sounds like the sort of thing he'd say."
"To answer that question though? I don't. I think that this was always how it was, on some level. Quirks have just made it...louder. So there's criminals that make things explode or shoot lightning instead of using guns--or, hell, while using guns, why limit yourself--but there are also people who can stop them, and those people can do crazy things like fly or grow into giants or," Elena flicked her bangs aside for just a moment, flashing the blazing blue eye behind it to Hanako before shrouding it again, "Can turn themselves into living fire. But asides from that? This is how it's always been."
"War has been here for a while. We've just got new weapons to fight it with."
Elena blinked, pursed her lips into a tight frown, and drummed her nails on the table.
"Maldita sea, that was as dramatic as the other thing. I need to lay of the anime."

all the pieces lie where they fell... ♥ She could not help but laugh when Elena called it: less pregnant. Yes, definitely, she did not know when or how that would be exactly but she looked forward being able to do things without having trouble getting up, or getting a drink without having to wonder if it was okay, like coffee. "I am normally not even a fan of tea." But to be fair, she had learned how to love it, so that was a good thing! But she nodded, "I look forward to that moment, though." To make sure Elena understood that she absolutely did not mind the suggestion, less pregnant, she giggled again before focusing back on the conversation. She tried to dive back into the interview, but to be honest, her most asked question was about motive and Elena had already answered that, so it might be better to try and learn the understandings of a... wait..."I know a good bar that sells fruity drinks like that, maybe they need someone to work there. Sorry I am probably too forward but the owner is a friend of mine." Sorry Delta, but Fourth Corner, someone definitely did not mind to be seen there, at least not Hanako, she had only not been there often to resist the temptation of wine and coffee. She waved her hand to bring her back to the interview, "Sorry sorry, I do have another question." So she asked about teamwork. She nodded, she agreed with that as well, "Do you feel like its a risk to try and figure out who does the same job as you or is it some sort of vibe that makes you immediate understand?" How much did the government publish things about pro-heroes? It would be or it could be a mistake if you counted them as one of the vigilantes, right? But before she could ask if she ever encountered a pro-hero who had been mean to her about her job, she decided to ask something that once was said to her about a war. She shook her head with a grin when Elena compared it to a tv show, which was a funny suggestion, but it wasn't her who said it, so she did not know what to think in general about it. She was surprised when Elena in one go mentioned the person who had said this to her. "Yes, yes it was." Sunhawk, she had not heard or seen much about him anymore for months, to be fair, she wasn't paying much attention either. She was glad that she looked at Elena as she went on to explain and she did not miss her blue eye and scribbled finally down what she said and she nodded, "That's actually exactly what I think." Which was an interesting thing, she believed, hence why she wasn't against quirks as a quirkless, that nothing changed in the principle, the way people used it, that changed. She shook her head with another smile, "I do understand what you mean, if anything, I could use some anime recommendations before I can barely move about, you know." But it was again not a part of the interview, it would come and go. She rather kept it a casual conversation anyway than a real one on one shooting questions all the time.

~ I want to line the pieces up - Yours & mine ~
"Huh, I went there not too long ago, actually. Totally by chance. Rain and I don't get along and I ducked in there for a bit." Elena put a finger to her bright red lips, thinking over the encounter she'd had there. It was a strange one. Fortune telling often was, especially when she wasn't the sort to believe such superstitions, but when the result had been so positive...hey, who was she to spit in whatever-god-that-may-have-been-paying-attention's face? "Definitely a place I'd check out when it's busier. Though you said something about a..." She stopped. She didn't have a visa, didn't have a real ID, and was underage. There was no way she could get a nice, legitimate job like the one Hanako hinted at. But it was nice to dream. "...hmm. nevermind."
Before she could answer the next question, the waitress arrived with a pair of small plates and set of intricately detailed dessert forks. The cakes--two on each plate, cut thinly to fit but still tall enough that they weren't poorly proportioned--were exactly as expected: one chocolate with deep brown icing and coffee cream-colored swirls on the rim, the other vanilla with strawberry filling--both flavored cream and chopped pieces of the fruit--with red glaze so bright it rivaled Elena's lipstick. Both were decorated with an adorable little decal made of what looked like decorative chocolate. And both strawberry cakes came, of course, with a full strawberry besides it, dipped in what looked like either white chocolate or a simple sugar glaze. Elena gave the waitress a quick word of thanks before she left the table once again, then grinned at Hanako.
"Oooh, these look so good! Now for the most difficult choice of the night: which to start with!" She took one of the little silver forks and gently pressed the teeth of it into the bright red glaze, just enough to get a little of it on the fork, and brought it to her lips to taste. Absolutely overly sweet. Perfect. "Think I have to go with this one. Red is my second favorite color, after all. Though I bet you can't guess the first."
One bite of sickeningly sugary strawberry cake later Elena answered the question left hanging in the air. "I mean, we do have an online group that we add others in the field to, we can kind of set up to meet up and then there's no guess-work to it. But if we run into one another by chance, or at least think we've run into another vigilante? I think it's worth it to at least put out some sort of signal. Even a subtle one. If the other person's smart they'll catch on." She stabbed through a chunk of fruit and waved it about on the tip of her fork. "If I'm wrong then, well, I just hope that whatever I said makes me look crazy and they don't ask any more questions. That's how I met one of my best friends, actually. Saw enough hints that this random guy I just bumped into was someone I knew from the channel, but had nothing solid. So I asked if he was God." She snorted. "I know that makes no sense out of context, but I guess that was the point. Luckily I was right and didn't look like a total lunatic."
"And before you ask, no, I'm not going to explain that. He's a sneaky NEET, and I am not going to get all of my shit hacked for giving out any more on him than I have."
Sin embargo, la mirada en su rostro no tenía precio.
Elena popped the strawberry into her mouth and contemplated what anime she'd even recommend to an actual Japanese person. She had no idea what was "good anime", she just watched a bunch of silly crap and whatever had Spanish subtitles online. "There's one I've been watching lately called Sour and Shocking, but it's mostly about cooking and cute moments between a widower and his kid. There's no action or anything like that. Still a cute watch, though, if you need something chill or some tasty recipes. Nothing like that other cooking anime. You know. The...orgasm one."
Everyone knew that one.

all the pieces lie where they fell... ♥ "Ah than you already know where it is! That's easy." Meant to be, not that Hana believed in those things at this point she simply believed it was practical that Elena knew where she meant. Hanako wasn't bad with directions but the problem was she always took a taxi, so... how accurate was it. But your phone would always be albe to tell you! "I think you should try, point out the issue to my friend, I am sure she will try to help as well." If only she knew someone at the government, but to be fair she had not been a fan herself but she could... dunno... talk to someone there, maybe her colleagues knew something or someone. Elena called her a friend and as Hanako sort of might be desperate to have friends, she wanted to hold on to that. She did not want to linger on things she did not know or make it worse but she wanted to give it a try, so this might be a good thing. Now that's why she might sound a bit rude or not interested in the issue, they talked about it before and she did not want to make the matters worse again and thus not start the discussion on her lack of knowledge about visas. So she asked another question, right before the cakes were brought and she stared at that with an intensity and a delight, they looked really nice.
Hanako looked at both cakes with a smile on her face, "That's a very good question." She answered Elena as she just mentioned where to start, in the end she simply picked the strawberry on top of the strawberry vanilla cake but the struggle would come after that again, her hormones told her chocolate, so she simply obeyed. "Red is your second..." Hanako looked up from a piece of chocolate cake, what was G's favourite colour? Gold? Purple? What was her own favourite colour? Pink? No she hated pink because associations, blue? "Eeh, I thought I would interview you." She laughed because it was difficult to randomly call a colour, "But what is your favourite colour, now you got me interested." Soon they continued the questions Hanako had for Elena which was nice, it just felt like Hana was learning about a world that she had stood in with one food and now she could understand more. "I mean you need to be careful right, so in the case of that question, if he was not you would be save enough." A sort of signal, yes that would be nice, at least they had a channel, that worked well to keep up the talk, depend on each other if necessary maybe. "Oh, no I don't need to know anything speciifc I just, try to understand?" It more formed like a question than she originally wanted but for now, it did not matter, it would be over anyway. She did not know how she came up with the question of anime, not having watched it as a child, she had not seen much and it felt weird, considering their well differences, it would be most likely that Hanako should know, but she tried to push that aside. She dropped her fork and looked at Elena, she had tried to write down the name she just mentioned, she could use tasty recipes and moments to chill as Elena said it with her pregnancy but she was sure she did not hear the last word right. "Sorry what?" She only started to feel like a bigger idiot, no Elena could not have said... could she?

~ I want to line the pieces up - Yours & mine ~
Elena nodded once, her expressive becoming pensive as Hanako finished her hanging question with encouragement. Was she serious that the owner may actually be willing to hire a foreigner--an underage foreigner at that--despite the legal risks there may be? There were crazier people out there doing dumber shit with their businesses. It still felt almost too good to be true...but did that also make it too good to pass up?
"You know what, alright. I'll file that away. What's the worst that can happen, right?"
Ella llama a la policía y te deportan.
Gracias cerebro. Eres tan alentador.
With a mouth full of dessert Elena gave a muffled laugh, and raised the hand not currently spearing a strawberry with a fork to her hair. She gave the mass of carefully constructed curls with her fingertips, the bright white color making the green on her nails stand out all the more. "White!" she spoke once she'd swallowed the cake in her mouth, "I know a lot of people think it's the absence of color, or that it's just so boring, but honestly, that's why I love it so much. White is a canvas! It contrasts the rest of myself, makes all my accessories pop, and it's the easiest color for hair if I want to temp-dye it for something. Hell, I wouldn't dye my hair a color I didn't love."
She resumed her mission of disemboweling the slice of shortcake of all its yummy fruit. "Huh. A signal wouldn't be a bad idea. Would make finding one another in dangerous situations that you happen upon a lot easier. Maybe something like 'wear X color on X day', and keep it to something subtle, like shoes. That assumes everyone would even remember that, though. Or wants to own a rainbow's worth of shoes." She paused, glancing down at her bright red heels. "Not everyone is me."
Well, crap, it looks like Elena found the one person who didn't know about that anime. Her face immediately felt hotter--which to the woman made of living flame was quite, quite hot--and her skin darkened to an almost blueish tint. Still, a grin split her face, countering the utter embarrassment the rest of her exposed. "Um. Uh. Look up 'Food Battles' when you get home, and prepare for the weirdest kind of fanservice you'll ever see? Or maybe not 'weirdest'," she covered her mouth with her hand to hide her smile, all in vain. "I don't know I was introduced to it at like fifteen. It's a really, really dumb show. Like. Imagine a battle anime but with cooking and the people eating the food like it so much they...you know. Do that. It's real dumb."
Maldita Gracie, mira que tu mal gusto en...
Ah.
Though her blush did not recede, and neither did her awkwardly forced smile, Elena felt her temperature cool just enough to not be literally burning up inside. It had been some time since she remembered that name, or any of the names of her friends back home, save for Tatsuya. For a moment she hoped they were happy. Safe. Well.
The ones that were alive, at least.
"I'm so so so sorry, I thought it was infamous enough that everyone knew it...!"

all the pieces lie where they fell... ♥ Well she was sure that there were many worse things that were able to happen for Elena but she did not want to point it out, she wanted to help her because... well she had called Hanako a friend after their first meeting so basically the reporter was swooned and wanted to help her new made friend because... well she barely had friends so she would treasure the ones she had very much. The person she cared about the most... let's not go there before she would have to cry again... This was why she moved to Kyoto and look at her coming back running within seconds when someone offered, what should she do? It would be a question for Kyoto, she would not come back so easily again only with meetings for work because well she could not deny her boss that, it was not his issue that they-they... Hanako tried to quickly focus on the cake instead of thinking of words such as break-up. She was at least glad that the conversation continued, Elena was a great distraction and Hanako thought about her answer. White, she wasn't a picky person about whether that was a colour or not she just never considered it. "I really like that explanation." She twirled a piece of hair around her own finger, hers was completely the opposite considering she had black hair and what a work that had been to keep it blonde, it surely was easier to keep her hair natural, she liked black, the absorbing of all the other colours right. She smiled, maybe one day she could consider her favourite colour. Hanako nodded when they talked about signals. "Hm or like drawing a cross on the back of your hand in a specific colour, saves people from buying a rainbow of shoes, albeit I wouldn't mind that idea either." But most of her clothes were... not in Kyoto, she had packed one bag and walked out, she had not asked G for her stuff back because she wasn't ready for that. Her clothing at the moment was rather dull and limiting. She also did not go shopping but well, it did not matter, once she settled on an answer... she could ask it back if needed. Would he burn her clothing? Oh no... she shook her head mildly to try and focus on Elena again. So the colours were in contrast with her hair which made her accessory pop, she liked that idea, shame that she could not use it for the interview. "But did you ever bump into a pro-hero? I mean I half assume here that all pro-heroes know each other so they would immediately know you are not one." She said it carefully because mostly she did not want to be overheard, Elena's openness and her warmth with words in this conversation made it so that Hanako wasn't afraid to ask anything anymore, which was surely a good thing, better than her careful need of words with the Yakusa princess and Meiko. As they spoke about anime, Hanako felt like the only Japanese person that did not watch it, which was equally as embarrassing in her eyes and she looked with a questionable expression to Elena and stared when she explained... "That-that sounds really strange." How...why.. would someone make an anime like that but to be honest, her interest was sparked so she might look it up later. "I never watched anime and it did not spark my interest when I got out of my parents house so... I am just too cut off from that world." She said with a nervous giggle, she surely had seen articles but mostly skipped them and so on, she might get into the normal ones if her son would watch them. It would be good to research so he wouldn't bump into... such weird ones.

~ I want to line the pieces up - Yours & mine ~
The off-hand line that Hanako wouldn't mind having multiple shoes in a variety of colors didn't go missed by Elena. Her smile grew just a little more, though it was already quite bright so it may not have been noticeable. Hanako liked to shop? Hell yeah. Maybe the two of them could go out clothes shopping sometime. That wasn't something that had to wait for the pregnancy to end--hell, there were tons of cute maternity shops that Elena never had rhyme or reason to go into, so having Hanako along would be the best excuse to actually see what was in there. What did one do with maternity clothes after the baby was born, anyway? Get the clothes re-fitted? Save them for a theoretical next pregnancy? Give them to a newly expecting friend?
Elena chewed on her strawberries thoughtfully. Maybe, just maybe, it would be extra worth it to help Hanako find some cute maternity clothes...for future, potential uses.
Not that she would have to think about that for a long time.
"The drawing could work. At least for people who kept their skin when they use their Quirk. Not so much for me. Then again, shoes wouldn't work in that case, either." She sighed, over-dramatizing just a little for humor's sake. "I might need to stick with a normal boring key-phrase. Or just tell the chat to look out for, well, myself."
The strawberries had mostly been consumed now, leaving the cake and brilliant red frosting for Elena to have at. "I've only met one on the street, and I didn't give away who or what I was. I know I don't look subtle but I do know to act it on occasion. He was also half-frozen to death so he wasn't in the best position to question why I was in a dark alley in the middle of the night in the first place." A bit of frosting got caught on the corner of her mouth and Elena wiped it away with her napkin. It really was as red as her lipstick; she was half-tempted to check her lips to be sure she hadn't smudged her make-up, but knew better. She only wore the heavy-duty stuff.
"If I ran into a hero on the street while I'm not Quirked out, they'd be hard pressed to recognize me. If I was all bright and blazing then there might be a problem. At the same time there are laws that let citizens defend themselves or others, even if they aren't a hero. We just have to time our involvement right and look like we weren't actively looking for trouble. It won't work if our faces are known, obviously--" O si el héroe que te ha gustado conocerte, dentro y fuera de Quirk, como un vigilante. Gracias, Tou-chii. "--but that's just another reason for us to be careful. We're still criminals by every letter of the law...just have to make sure we can bend said laws."
"And if heroes or cops start cracking down on those laws because we're abusing them, then it's going to show they're more interested in stopping people from helping than stopping criminals." For a moment, Elena's smile hardened, her visible eye darkening. "If that happens, well, it will really help show who's a good hero and who's a tool."
Her expression softened again, chosing to move away from that line of thought. They were all heroes, all trying to help people. Some just a little more legit-ly than others.
Elena took the chance to steer away from that weird as hell anime like a life line. "Hey, I mean, it's never too late to find the genuinely good stuff. I wasn't a big fan of anime until I was shown the right shows. And the weird stuff is really just a small, small percentage. It's not all bad. Seriously. And it feels weird to defend anime as a Spanish person, to a Japanese person." She snorted. "Is that cultural appropriation?"

all the pieces lie where they fell... ♥ She frowned, she had not thought about the potential transformation, sometimes she wondered if it wasn't obvious that she was quirkless. In general you did not have to see quirks, for G... wrong thoughts... for Miku for example you would only see once there were plans around and she tried to control those and so on, there must be enough people that could go for quirkless but weren't and in her case they were. But yes than the shoes did not work so her mistake was not noticed at the moment right now. "Do you lose a lot of clothing if you don't mind me asking directly how your quirk works that is?" She basically assumed something about fire, heat, anything like that with that temperature that Elena had waved off when Hanako had her blurry-cryable moment. Even if the situation about half freezing to death in Elena's example wasn't funny, it made her giggle. The way Elena spoke and the example of her own not subtle ways to show off but how to act, made her understand her. She believed she could be more the opposite, she looked anything but impressive. Especially now that she dyed her hair back to black. Maybe she looked out of the ordinary now with her baby bump and the odd clothing that a maternity store gave her for her figure, it was hateful to have quite a bump and be small! She stopped eating from her little cake when Elena seemed to be rather serious and she nodded. It confirmed her thoughts that not everyone looked like a quirker or in this case a vigilante only by passing by or even using a quirk. So she agreed. She listened while focusing on the strawberry cake on her own little plate. There must be enough loopholes to wiggle their way out of harms way when it came to the law, so that was a good thing, but definitely not something she would write down, it would only make up for more problems. She dropped her fork accidentally and rolled her eyes as she gave a wry smile to Elena, she could not pick up the fork, but the waitress was quicker and gave her a clean one and took the bad one away. "Sorry, as you were saying." Tool. Tool. What am I to you? A tool? Tool. The word kept ringing in her ears. "I totally agree, it should not be something that should be the police or law-enforcers their priority." Their conversation about anime was more surprising and funny than she had thought and it made her laugh. "I doubt it, I mean more than enough people worldwide seem to know it, I was raised by a mother that disliked it too much probably. I bet my son would watch it wit-." with his father. That meant she still would not see it, well maybe one day. She took a deep breath, "I hope it's not too late to try and like it." She smiled though, trying herself to steer away from the conversations that might hurt her.

Elena nodded, her humorous over-dramatic response extending a while longer as she answered Hanako's next question. "Oh, it is the worst Quirk for keeping my clothes in one piece. The absolute worst. If I want to do anything without literally burning everything I'm wearing to ashes, I have to strip. And there is no such thing as phone booths anymore to do quick-changes in, so it is as awkward as it sounds." Her visible eye went over her own hand. Her beautiful dark skin would be fine when she transformed, so long as she transformed completely. The delicate gold jewelry--faux, but still pretty--and the sleeves of her jacket, and even the green nail-polish she wore; all of those would burn up or melt or evaporate in mere moments. So she wouldn't demonstrate exactly what she could do. It was too risky, anyway, in public.
"Long explanation short: I turn into fire. All of me. I'm even a little fire-proof when I haven't transformed, and with the steam that comes off me," she gently touched the side of her cup, and a bit of condensation turned into steam and wafted away, "I think that some part of me is always like that, like flame, even when I look normal. When I go all out it's very impressive, if I do say so myself. It's awful for my outfits though."
The sound of silverware hitting the floor caused Elena to look up from herself to Hanako, and to the fork she'd dropped. Before she could even say anything the waitress had replaced it. Good service, definitely. Or maybe after what Elena has said earlier, and the fact that the waitress had seen Hanako crying from afar, said waitress was keener to their table than was normal. It was only a 'maybe', but Elena liked to think that good people were everywhere. Maybe this was one of those cases.
"Yeah. Haah, still, it's one of the big debated topics you see online or on talk-shows. 'What makes a hero', 'Which heroes secretly support vigilantes', 'Are heroes any better than vigilantes', bla bla bla. No offense to you, but some journalists just have nothing better to do, I swear..." She scoffed softly, letting the tension out of the conversation as best she could. Something that had been said bothered Hanako. Or maybe it was just an ill-timed accident that she'd dropped her fork? It wasn't like she had shaky hands or had been balancing it on her finger, it had slipped right out of her hold. If something Elena said had hit another nerve, she'd drop it like a hot coal.
Or, well, something with an equal pain to a person who wasn't already made of heat.
One cake finished, practically inhaled by Elena, she started with the next one by plucking the chocolate decal from the top and biting it in half with a satisfying 'snap'. So she was having a boy, huh. Chalk up another similarity to Gucci's story. If this wasn't, in fact, his girlfriend and he wasn't her baby-daddy, she would eat the table. "Pssh, you're never too old to learn to like something, and you're not even old to begin with, so stop it. You just have to find something you like. Check out that one I recommended to start with, and just look for other shows that have similar themes to what you liked from it. And just avoid the weird shit as best you can. Muy fácil."

all the pieces lie where they fell... ♥ Definitely awkward, for this reason, Hanako for maybe the first time, did not envy that part of someone's quirk. Surely Elena's quirk must have its nice things so there would still be a way of being jealous of just having a quirk. She wondered if her son would get one. Probably, considering G's. She thought way too often about him in her free days, it was demotivating. She wanted him back but she needed a solution to their issues... or well issue, she looked at her bump, that wasn't going to be fixed so easily. "So we have no movie scenes where you can change into phone booths but how do you do it? Find a special place to hide your stuff, behind a dumpster or how?" She looked up Elena, following her eyes over the jewelry and so on, she was curious more out of her own idea of fashion and jewelry that she liked. She looked at the empty ring-finger... right, that too. She should stop being so melancholic, it wasn't getting her anywhere and it was also probably, very annoying for Elena over time.
But she watched and listened to Elena explaining her quirk, turning into fire, so basically she was living fire. What an idea, that explained the warm feeling Elena gave off. She watched as the steam wafted away from the cup as she showed off a piece of her quirk, after all she could not turn into a living flame here. As they continued to talk about the issue of heroes and vigilantes about the whole issue that Hanako agreed with, she had only not expected Elena to use the word tool. It was like an alarm going through her mind, almost causing a flashback of her crying while dragging her bag downstairs to the cab, tool. She asked him first, he called her tool later in his language. It took her three times to translate it from Hawaiian to Japanese. Tool. She tried to focus on the continuation of the conversation, giving a hollow short laugh when Elena said no offense to her. "Don't worry, I do not take it personal, I just want to talk to the people who dare to talk to me, but it is also what the public wants to read, a strange thing to say. I also try to learn from it myself, even if I think that I am or maybe was biased." No, she still supported him. She nodded, "I will try the cooking one." The idea of trying out new recipes sounded nice, and she never had anything better to do at this point but being at home, a sitting duck, waiting for the hospital to give her the a-okay of taking good care of herself, waiting for work to give her appraisal for her articles. She would figure things out, she wondered if she had more questions for Elena but at the moment that was about it, it was nice though, even if it was an interview, she simply felt a connection to talk about anything, which was surely fine.

~ I want to line the pieces up - Yours & mine ~
"If I have the foresight beforehand, I'll usually store a backpack in an alley out-of-the-way before lighting up. Other times I just have to hope I can lose any tails and make it home, or to a friends house, before changing back. It's easier in summer, when I can get away with wearing, like, a tiny sundress that I can change in and out of and hide quickly. Purses are a godsend, too. Even if I'm wearing something I won't miss I don't want to burn my money or melt my phone. I've done that before," Elena's lips became a thin line as she recalled a fairly recent time that had happened. She'd been ready for a fight, but she'd not expected to go full-body-burning like she had. Thankfully her sim card hadn't melted, it had just gotten a badly charred screen. It was still a pain to replace, especially since she needed her roommate to do it for her.
Elena grumbled a quiet "Asura estúpida, sin apegarse al plan" before returning to her chocolate cake with renewed need for something sweet. It was a good pick-me-up.
There was a lull in the conversation for a little while, as Hanako didn't even try to defend some of her "colleagues" for their click-bait and overall crap journalism tactics. Nobody who wrote articles trying to defame good heroes--or, hell, criminalize children after a traumatic experience--deserved any sort of respect; certainly not from their fellow better reporters. Though with a name like "Lady Scandal" it might be hard to take some of her interviews seriously. Was it intentional, to keep people off her trail?
The police would probably love to catch the woman doing interviews with criminals.
A little while longer into the calm quiet, Elena finally spoke up, unable to keep the burning question she'd been sitting on inside her any longer. "So. You don't have to answer this, because it's both totally nothing to do with the interview or even remotely my business, but I'm dying here. Your ex. What did he do, that you left? Or what did you do that you felt like it was better that you left? I don't like to point fingers at anybody, and my experiences aren't even close to your level. But it's not like perfectly happy couples break up for no reason. Again, you do NOT have to tell me, but I can tell that...some of the things we've talked about today, even what isn't directly related to him, are eating you up. And if I can help at all, I want to. That includes dropping this and picking a different subject, if you don't want to share it."
Elena drew in a deep breath, meeting Hanako's eyes with her own, and trying for the life of her to keep any trace of sheepishness off her face. She was being serious, dammit. She couldn't afford to let her sincerity be tinged with awkwardness. Or let anything she did or said make it sound like she was just out for gossip. Which, yes, a very small part of her was. That wasn't even close to the big reason for bring it up; she wanted to help Hanako, and tip-toeing around the problem wasn't helping.
Sometimes a sledgehammer was all she could use to breach a tender subject.
