sometimes you want to go WHERE EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME
Variety is the spice of life, as they say, and Delta was quite certain this next act was going to make her wonderfully baked music night nice and spicy! After some typical and somewhat atypical acts for a bar music night, eventually came one of the more unique performances of the night, from one of Delta's personal favorite stage names. All that Delta regretted about letting this next performance on, was that the Fourth Corner didn't have much room for dancing within it. The setup was the most unique so far, leaving the audience with many questions on their mind as Delta took the stage again, all smiles and glamour as usual as she enthusiastically grabbed the microphone. "Hello hello, my lovelies, the wait is over, and it's time for the next act of the night to begin!" Delta proclaimed as usual, cheers still resounding nonetheless. "This time, I've got something a bit different for you all~ Someone else who's proficient in the art of mixing, though her specialties are within tracks rather than glasses~" A light chuckle to keep them on the edge of their seats, before she gestured emphatically, introducing the next performer to enter the stage and begin their turn! "Ladies and Gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to the night's smoothest disk jockey, the marvelous mixer, DJ Sweet Soul Sister!" Dear performer, this act is now in your hands!- The performer will post after this introductory post, to begin their performance - From there, they will give a window for spectators to post (i.e. 48 hours) after which the performer is expected to post again! - This repeats until the performance is done! - Dear performers, please, choose a posting window that suits your own posting habits - And most importantly... Have fun!0000 WORDS |

It was time for the set. Chiyuri had thought about what tracks to use, when and where, all sorts of little things she could throw in and let simmer to get the whole bar grooving to the music of her favourite artist! Her setup was ready, fit to her requests, which looked snazzier than she had pictured it. With Delta's budding remarks and announcing her to the stage, Chiyuri made her entrance, coming in to her spot with a spring in her step. Without hesitation, she got into position, both hands above the records. Usually she would use her analogue deck for remixing, but tonight was a special occasion, so she figured to try and get futuristic and get some digital stuff going, for that real neon aesthetic. Two records, hands raised above them, and a buzzing crowd. Nothing better. She flipped the switch, motioned for the lights, and got to work right away. First up – Let Mom Sleep. Gotta get the classics in. Letting it rock for a moment to build crowd excitement, Chiyuri got scratchin' and went ahead to get to the real meat of the track, adding in a few samples she'd heard around and thought would be cool to use, as well as ones from the song itself, grooving a little as she did so. She dialled the switches on her canvas like a madwoman, flicking and turning along with those classic hand waves on the disk. The beat was palpable, like you could taste it, and it tasted good. Although, she didn't have too much time, so after about a minute and a half, when the mid-section got around, she decided to mix in another track, this one being a sweet summer sound for the crowd. After teasing for a bit, the previous groove was gone but not forgotten, as the song moved forth into Back 2 Back, an energetic track filled with that classic seasonal bubbliness. Pumping the sound up a bit, the song rustled through each part of the bar as she could clearly see people starting to get down. Some of the crowd were before, but now a lot were getting into it, envigorating Chiyuri to get more creative with her craft.

Wait a minute this isn't rock and roll. This isn't classical rock. What is this drivel.
Kaz managed to ignore the first performance, payed some attention to the second one, and completely blanked out on the third one. But now, this has grabbed the attention of the chronicler. Is it interest in the music? Is it disgust? Is it confusion to why they keep saying back to back now spin it alright or something, can't really find the right words for it it's too fast for Kaz's ears. Seriously, why is this allowed here? Like yeah, it's music but she isn't really...playing it. All she's doing is just scratching some disks and flicking on and off some switches. It's like computer magic, but in physical form. Kaz stares in confusion but a mild interest. Hanemi meanwhile is nodding to the beat, clearly entranced by the groove. Of course you would easily get suckered in. Kaz smirks as he stares at his hypnotized sister. His mother is still not paying attention, still looking at her phone. Makes sense, she was never into remixes or mash ups. In fact, he's not even sure if his mother even liked any type of music. He once showed her a song from an old time band, something Rejects or whatever, and she just shrugged it off as it were nothing. Like how could she? It's like a representation of his soul, of what he was feeling at the moment! Of course he swiftly ditched it for proper bands such as Gear and other musicians, but still.
He looks over at Red and his sister, and he appears to trying to ignore her. Such an odd sibling duo. Shame he's stuck with this fool of a sister. He glares back at Hanemi who is still bobbing her head to the beat. Still, he will give credit to the musician for their ability to keep the flow and beat attractive enough for others to understand. It's also just plain catchy. The "Back 2 back" is now vibrating inside Kaz's mind, and it is practically permanently embedded on his brain. He doubts he will ever get rid of this. Maybe if he drowns it out with some classical rock later in the night he can sleep soundly, but from the look of things he's gonna spend the entirety of tonight awake. The everlasting Back to back
back to back, n' spinnin' on the back Back to back, on the turntables' back Back to back, n' spinnin' on the back Back to back, on the back to back! Back to back, n' spinnin' on the back Back to back, on the turntables' back Spinnin' on the turn, n' spinnin' on the turntables
Back to back
It's alright, Kaz mumbles.

all the pieces lie where they fell... ♥ Hmm fourth performance, she had the urge to leave but that was absolutely not about the music, she even considered herself very rude if she did so because of other circumstances. She listened to the introduction Delta gave, liking the name of the DJ already. She wasn't sure what she thought of mixing, the performance went into a smooth way that she could not deny that, she might not be a fan of the songs picked but she put that aside and simply form an opinion about how it went and that was something she could definitely appreciate. It was actually a shame there was no dance floor, not that the pregnant woman would dance but it would perhaps show more engagement from the public instead of what was happening now, but maybe she just missed the point. It would be a nice dancing beat, that she thought so for herself. Maybe she would find a performance of this DJ when she was able to dance again. She wrote down a few notes for her blog for the future and continued to simply listen. Putting her right cheek on her hand with which she leaned on the bar and she looked at the young woman at the stage, wondering how someone trained or became a DJ, a very interesting feature in her opinion. Maybe she should ask Haruuhi, but she did not dare to look at the girl right now, she had already found answers about tonight that she had not wanted to know. Before she knew it the second song was done already, which surprised her because maybe she was absorbed with the sound, meaning she did like it even if she told herself not to. She bit her lip and wrote that down as well. On such a music night, you learn more about yourself.

With the crowd now buzzing and getting down, Chiyuri thought to kick it up a notch. She mixed in a few more samples for the current song, letting it rock for a moment. The beats reached a slow lull, allowing her to do some mixing in of the next track. She switched back and forth, getting both going, seemingly at the same time, until a few scratches transitioned into That's Enough. Even though the title suggested otherwise, this was a more groovy tune to bounce to, not an incredibly high energy song, but one you could vibe with, and the implemented voice clips worked great. Chiyuri herself couldn't stop herself, as she danced a little while working the deck, shaking around and moving herself to the timing of the music. But while it was a groovy, sensual track, it was more of a grace period until the next track could get that juicy dance feel back. As That's Enough made it's course through almost the whole track, it was time to switch it back to the more high-energy jams. Transitioning very smoothly, the next track began, one with a similar summer feel, but something more subtle, a nice throwback to give the people exactly what they needed. In the mood of the moment, Chiyuri couldn't help herself, and broke into a full head-swinging trance, dancing around behind the deck, letting the song run its course, while still inputting her trademark feel into the track with the tools she had. 'If this one got me to dance, then the next one is inescapable', she thought to herself. She looked over to the crowd, a lot of them getting excited, and jiving around like no one was watching, a great feeling washing over Chiyuri, a feeling of self-worth and pride in getting people to enjoy themselves. This was what she lived for.

With the crowd buzzing and getting down to what was being offered, now was the time to bust out the biggest jams Chiyuri could get. Slowly quieting down the current track, she threw the people for a quick loop, turning the sound down and starting to walk away, before immidiately jumping right back, kicking the volume all the way up, and letting loose by far her favourite track in her set. The ever energetic, ever sick, ever funky-fresh Ain't Nothing Like a Funky Beat. Chiyuri had half a mind to jump down into the crowd and dance around to the music, it was the slickest sonic ride she'd heard, and getting to share that feeling with a bunch of people was a truly awe-inspiring feeling. It was like the song was crafted expertly in a lab to be the most groovy song in history, something that not even people who were laid to rest could resist getting down to. Unlike most songs in the night, Chiyuri let this one go all the way through, applying her jive movements to the disks, and watching as the crowd busted their best moves, which was fun to see, even though objectively there was some dad dancing going on. After the fun breakdown, there was still more, this was a climax point, sure, but it was time to bring it home. A few tracks more, and her set would sadly be over. But now was the big send-off, and it needed a short transition. That's where Sky-2-High came in. Pretty good track, a little short, but that would be more helpful here, as she was able to set up more radical stuff later on. Chiyuri was happy that most of the crowd could get down to her stuff, all she really wanted to do was to make others feel happy living in such a diverse city.

This was it – the final part of the set. Chiyuri had been performing for a fairly good length of time, but now it was time she ended it, much to her dismay. Maybe she'd get to do another gig for the Fourth Corner in the future, or this could get her some publicity as a DJ, but for now she knew she needed to call it quits. She began to turn down the music, and reached deep into the setlist for the last full track – the eerie, hypnotic and definitive Grace and Glory. The song suggested a stranger vibe, which was reflected as Chiyuri began to change up her movements to be a little more sinister, moving her arms a bit more loosely as she turned dials and moved switches on her setup. She also put on a slightly more menacing mean look on her face, kinda like a creepy guy in a horror movie. It might have been odd, but it mixed with the song, made it feel a little more than just music. That was one thing Chiyuri loved about the song – it could change your mood depending on how you listen to it. However, that wasn't the finale she was planning on. She wanted to bring things full circle, and decided that when the song reached the cut-off point, she very quickly dropped the look, and went back to her more usual jovial self, rewinding the song, and even rewinding through every song she'd played up to that point – all the way back to Let Mom Sleep. It signified a return to self, or something like that if this was to be some kind of musical journey. As the song reached a final end, she leapt up in front of her setup, bowed to the applauding crowd in an almost over-the-top fashion. “Thank y'all for listening, and don't forget, music lives in all of us! You just gotta find the right beat!” said Chiyuri, and she backed out and moved behind the curtain backstage, where she took a seat, feeling proud of what she'd gotten done tonight. She might not have been a winner or a loser, but she sure felt satisfied that she could bring such music to so many.

Finally accepting the fact that yes, this music was indeed music, Kaz nods his head in approval and starts clapping softly. The nonstop remixes and the constant change ups confused him, but he didn't complain. What is worrying, however, is that this music broke his concentration. You see, there was something that Kaz realized when he entered the 4th Corner with his family, that he should have realized the first moment where he signed up for it.
Kaz has no idea what to actually do. Sure he can start reciting Speeches, but compared to the rest? Th-that's child's play! What can he do in order to grasp the attention of the masses without embarrassing himself (less than usual?) Will he sing out the words? Will he recite them in the form of a spoken poem? Will he just go up there and stand there nervously, unable to do anything but mutter in nonsensical vowels and sounds? This truly was a trial: the trial of having no idea what to do for the performance. He wanted to at least write up something during this performance, but he keeps getting distracted by the rad sounds and groovy beats. So this is the power of remixes...this is truly a dangerous power to have. Kaz shudders as he looks at his family. Hanemi's chatting with some other people while his mother is still on the phone, typing away. Hopefully they'll pay attention for his performance...oh no they're gonna pay attention to the performance. Kaz shuts the notebook close, and holds it close to his chest.
This is gonna be rough as hell. Please let this night go by faster, please let it go by fast. Just go back 2 back-OH NO I'TS BACK, WHY CAN'T I GET RID OF HIS SONG? IT WON'T LEAVE!
