It had been a long year, to be sure, and yet it also felt as though it had started just yesterday. It had been a particularly memorable first day at that- The cookies he brought, overlooked in the hustle. Being approached by Chise after class- Their first meeting. Immediately after, starting the cooking club. The quiet days that followed, before getting involved at the Kunshu circus debacle. His second time saving lives, reinforcing his desire to become a doctor. Soon after, QED struck the school, and in helping to cure it, he reinforced his ideals once more. He had asked Chise out, and his only regret was having waited so long to do
Then came the Semper Fi military camp. Haruto's quirk was revealed to be very different than what he had known about it for so long. A curiosity ignited, about what he could do with this newfound power. However, before he gained more than a foothold, tragedy had struck- The military had gone rogue, attempting to murder the visitors, including the students. His first time failing to save a life. The shock he had felt, the disgust. If Chise had been hurt, hadn't come to his side, he was not sure how he would have faced the next day.
But she did come, and his heart was safe. The white-haired boy had become interested in rescue operations- Working to save people in the field, and not only after the dust had settled. Semper Fi had been an eye-opener in that regard. Despite having no time, he had found the time to enroll in rescue operations training at the school- Culminating in the rescue event at the Sports Festival, in which he had proved his growth in this regard. And even so, he had not lost his root, continuing to train his medical skills with the aid of the school nurse, Nakahara Nimue.
And now the year had come to an end. The freshmen would arrive tomorrow, and the upperclassman had the right to head home for orientation week, or to stay in the dorms. It wasn't a hard choice- Haruto's family had lived far away from Tokyo as long as he could remember. After a year apart, it was only natural for the boy to be homesick! However, he was not sure what surprised him more- That Chise had accepted when he had jokingly asked if she would like to join him, or that both of their parents would agree to it! Well, naturally his own parents hadn't had a problem with it, but was it really okay for a teenage girl to drive halfway across the country to stay for two weeks with her boyfriend? Even with his parents to chaperone, it was truly unbelievable!
However, Haruto knew better than to look a gift horse in the mouth, and had settled for rejoicing and planning all the places he would take Chise out to while they were there. He was certain she would love it the same way he did! Just so long as she survived long enough to get there... He looked at the redhead in the next seat with pity in his eyes. Perhaps predictably, Chise wouldn't have been given a quiet moment since she got in the car- A barrage of questions had flown at her. From her birthday to her future aspirations, any question that could come to mind and more than a few that Haruto had never imagined had flown at his girlfriend. It wasn't that he didn't try to help her, but... "Be quiet, Haruto dear. We're talking to Chise-chan right now. Where was I? Oh yes, how long have you been going out with our son?"
Well, along those lines, Haruto found himself completely sidelined from the conversation, even as the questions grew increasingly intrusive and embarrassing. And this was only the beginning of the drive! There were still hours before they would make it to the small mountain village he called his home.

"Spring Break? Sure! I'd love to go with you Haruto!"
It was a full two weeks when Haruto had asked her to come and visit his hometown with him over spring break. With testing done and homework turned in, Chise was free until the new term would start it. It's crazy to think how quickly her first year at U.A. had gone by, meeting new people, learning new things, growing stronger as a hero, so many things she didn't think were capable but had happened in what seemed like the blink of an eye. Hopefully next year will bring just as much excitement as this last year did, but for right now, a nice long break was in order.
Chise was excited to see where Haruto lived and meet his parents, wondering what they were like and if Haruto got any of their qualities in terms of looks or even quirk. She had packed a decent sized bag filled with a few changes of clothes, toiletries, medicine, and other things one would need on a trip away from home. She just hoped she packed enough and didn't pack too much that it would be a burden on Haruto and his family. She was already grateful for the hospitality and them hosting her in their home. Although, Chise wasn't quite prepared when it came to the barrage of questions his parents had thrown on her as soon as they left the school. Hopefully she could remember all the questions and answer them in the right order.
"A-Ah let's see if I got everything. I'm 17, my birthday is November 23rd, I was the support studies class president and vice president of the cooking club, my blood type is O+, I am an only child, my mother's quirk is language mimicry, my father is quirkless, my quirk is vocal mimicry, sheep are my favorite animals, peaches, cherries, and strawberries are my favorite fruits, I'm not a fan of sour or spicy foods, and I've been dating Haruto since last September. Hopefully I answered all of your questions thus far," Chise said with a sheepish chuckle, turning to Haruto to see a tinge of red on his cheeks, probably due to his parents neglecting him from speaking as they asked Chise questions. He tried his best to help, Chise couldn't help but smile at the fact. "I want to thank you again for having me Mr. and Mrs. Shimizu, I greatly appreciate it," Chise said with a warm smile, glad she gets to spend time with the one she loves while not having to worry about school or heroing for a bit.

Thankfully, Chise was good natured, and did not mind the barrage of questioning from Haruto’s mother. However, this cooperative nature would only encourage the mistress of the Shimizu household, whose questions would continue unless she was somehow stopped. “Oh, vocal mimicry, is it? That sounds nice. Can you just mimic anyone? How about that rising new actor, Nakamura Kou!” Haruto’s mother would reply, unaware of the limitation behind Chise’s quirk. Haruto shot his girlfriend a worried glance- He didn’t know how well his parents would take to hearing that Chise had to kiss people in order to copy them. As for Haruto’s father? As usual, he had his own ideas- “I know! Let’s have Chise-Chan mimic Haruto, and we can try to guess which one of them is which!”
While the idea of kissing Chise with his parents in the front seat was mildly awkward, the game would certainly provide a measure of relief from the constant questioning, and help burn time as they drove down the endless roads. “Up to you, Chise. I’ll play if you want to.” But of course, Haruto would never do anything if it would make Chise uncomfortable, so he left the final choice to her.
However, even if they did play, it would not be long before the questions resumed. “Oh, September? That son of mine certainly works quickly!” Haruto’s mother would comment, while his father would add in, “Like father, like son, eh?” While this elicited a chuckle from Haruto’s mother, neither seemed inclined to elaborate. Frankly, Haruto was perfectly fine not hearing the details of his parents’ love life, so he would let it be. But if Chise thought she was done with the questioning, she was dead wrong. “But September, really. That son of mine didn’t say a word about you until this year!” The accusatory tone would cause Haruto’s face to turn completely sheepish- It was true, he had worried about how his rather overprotective parents would react, and so had procrastinated on letting them know.
“So, did he ask you out, or did you have to ask him? It was you, right? I mean, that son of mine, he had so little interest in girls, I was starting to wonder if he was… You know, I searched his room high and low after he left, and didn’t find a single dirty magazine! What kind of healthy teenager is that!?” Haruto’s mother wouldn’t mind her mouth as she gave Chise a look that said- ‘it must be hard on you.’ Haruto’s father, ever one to fan the flames, would add to this, “Dear, don’t you know that magazines are a thing of the past? It’s all on the internet now! Ah, but don’t worry Chise-chan. I have access to the router logs, and there’s not a speck out of line! That son of mine only uses incognito mode to buy presents!”
Haruto, the subject of all this, had absolutely nothing to say in his own defense. He could only attempt to merge with his seat in the hopes that the topic would soon change. And with Haruto’s mother at the helm, the conversation would travel wherever it went. “So, what is my son like at school? You know, I was so concerned for him when he first left home- It’s his quirk, you know? When he was born, we had to move him up here, because the air quality anywhere else in the country was enough to kill him! The whole time before he sent his first letter, I was sure we would next see him in a hospital. But now, I almost can’t believe it! I’ve never seen so much color in his skin in my life!”
The questions would continue in this manner, until Haruto’s mother asked one that was perhaps too far out of line- “My dear, may I ask a question which has been bothering me since we met? Your chest is so large, what are your three sizes?”
Almost immediately, Haruto’s father would jump in to interrupt before Chise could answer or take offense. “So, how far have you two gone?” A question meant not to actually be answered, but to cut off his wife. In unison, Haruto and his mother would protest- “Mom! Dad!” “Dear!” Although it seemed that Haruto’s mother had not recognized the implication that her question was just as inappropriate.
Fortunately, the plan would work, and the questioning would end… At least, for now.

Perhaps she should have gone into more detail about her quirk, not mentioning the crucial step needed in order to use her quirk. Chise froze in place for a moment, when Haruto's mother spoke up, asking if she could replicate the voice of a rising young actor. If Haruto's mother did want her to use her quirk for that, she would surely be disappointed. Before Chise had a chance to speak up about her quirk, Haruto's father thankfully stepped in and suggested she copy Haruto's voice so they could guess who was the real Haruto. The redhead let out a small sigh of relief, that she was capable of. Chise turned her head and looked into Haruto's brown orbs, hearing him say he would be alright with such a game as long as she was ok as well. Chise grinned and nodded, "Sounds fine to me!" she said with a small chuckle before leaning in close and capturing Haruto's lips in a quick kiss before his parents looked back. "Alright, who's the real Haruto??" Chise spoke up in her boyfriends voice with a bit of cheerfulness in her voice...or Haruto's voice.
As the car ride continued, it seemed they were entering more rural parts of Japan, exiting the city and getting a better view of the wide open fields where the hustle and bustle of the city life was not found. It definitely was a different environment but Chise was sure a break like this would be quite enjoyable, considering she was with the one she loved. As Chise admired the scenery outside, she almost missed the next barrage of questions Haruto's parents had thrown at her...mentioning something about Haruto's lack of telling them about her. "A-Ah it's no trouble really," Chise spoke, "I hadn't told my parents until around Christmas time when I went home to see them. Studies and training have kept me pretty busy all year long. I still talked to my parents almost every day but with being the support studies class president, the vice president of the cooking club, school work, classes, and training, it was almost hard to find some time to myself to bring it up," Chise replied with a sheepish chuckle, trying to vouch for Haruto.
What was asked next, Chise was quite confused as how to respond. Sure, the 'who asked who out' question was easy enough to answer but the following statement about Haruto's…personal time. Chise couldn't help but grow a bit embarrassed, what parents casually talk about a subject like that. "W-Well Haruto was the one to officially ask me out. I was quite nervous to say anything in fear my feelings would be rejected," Chise said, trying not to think about Haruto and any kind of dirty magazine. He wasn't like that, so why did his parents think he was? Was he hiding something from her? Did he secretly have a more suggestive side? Chise shook the thought from her head, not wanting to think about that considering it was his parents that brought it up. "A-A-Ahh w-well....that's good to hear then," she said with a sheepish smile, a bit embarrassed to look at Haruto, instead choosing to look out of the window.
Thankfully, the topic switched to a more mellow one, Haruto's mother asking how Haruto was up at school, going a little into how Haruto's quirk effected his health and their reasoning for not living in the city. "Haruto is quite well! When I first met him, I was concerned as he always looked quite sick, but since working and training his quirk, he's done a lot in order to maintain his health considering what his quirk is. He's grown quite a lot...I'm really proud of him," Chise said, turning away from the window and looking at Haruto with a small smile and blush on her cheeks, reaching her hand out to lightly touch his.
Just when Chise thought the topics were settling down, Haruto's mother had commented on her...ample bust and asked what her measurements were. Chise stared at the front seats with a flustered look on her face. "E-Ehh?!" she said softly, not sure whether she should answer such a question with both Haruto and his mother in the car. She knew she wasn't a thin and petite girl so her numbers were a bit on the high side...but to ask a question like that during their first encounter?! Before Chise could answer however, Haruto's father asked a question of his own: wondering how far her and Haruto had gone. Did they really think she was that kind of girl?! Chise didn't know how to answer...she didn't know if she even should answer those personal questions. This was certainly going to be a long car ride.
Soon enough, the quartet entered Haruto's small town, driving through the little streets and making their way to Haruto's house. It seemed quite small in comparison to all the land around it but it didn't matter. As long as Chise was with Haruto, that's all that mattered. Chise turned to Haruto and grinned, "You'll definitely have to give me the grand tour one of these days. I'd love to take some pictures of the scenery, oh as well as some pictures of the two of us together," Chise said before unbuckling her seatbelt and hopping out of the car, heading to the trunk to retrieve her luggage.

Expecting it, Haruto didn't so much as let out a sigh as his voice was stolen along with his lips. He did, of course, cast his gaze to the front seat, making sure that his parents were not so much as looking in the rearview mirror. Fortunately, they were abiding by the rules of the game, or at least pretending to- Neither so much as raised an eyebrow, to his relief. "Did you drop this golden Haruto, or this silver Haruto?" The white-haired boy would ask, referencing a traditional legend. Of course, even if his parents said they didn't drop either, they wouldn't receive all three! However, perhaps as expected of Haruto's parents- Or perhaps because they could hear which side the voices were coming from, they would both make the correct choice. Of course, the one we dropped is our beautiful white Haruto!" Haruto's mother would declare, while his father would respond, "Why not both?" But regardless, it was obvious what they meant. Haruto would grin sheepishly, but still proclaim, "You win this time, but we'll see how you fare when we can shuffle who's on which side!"
Unfortunately, the car was not a place where that was possible, so the conclusion of the game would have to wait until their arrival. As such, it became nothing more than a short interlude in the endless interrogation. At Chise's explanation that she had waited to tell her parents as well, Haruto's parents would exchange knowing glances, but not tease her any further. Truth be told, they didn't mind that much. While they might be rather overprotective, they had some trust in their son's judgement. Still, if they let him hide a girlfriend without giving him any crap at all, what might he hide in the future!? But of course, Chise-chan was blameless, so they wouldn't dare take it out on her! Well, not too much, at least.
When hearing about HAruto's sickly appearance at school, his mother showed a look of concern. Of course, by his current appearance, he was fine, but... She and his father had both worried that the air quality in the city would prove too low for him, and from Chise's words they weren't wrong. But at the same time, his recovery proved himself right- That by entering UA, he could improve his resistance to his own quirk. It was a bittersweet feeling, but altogether, they were just glad to know that their fears were misgiven. After all, a single look at their son was enough to tell that he was doing better than ever, even before arriving at the clean air of their home. Of course, if they heard about some of the dangers he'd been through in that time, perhaps they still wouldn't be letting him go back.
As for the topic of Haruto's browsing habits, it was thankfully let die with no fanfare, as it should be.
"Chise, you don't have to answer that kind of question!" Haruto would confirm for Chise, glaring at the front seat. Both his parents would agree, though it seemed his mother still hadn't recognized her own fault. As for his father, he had only asked to try and drive home to his wife how inappropriate she was being... Though, while it hadn't worked, he wouldn't press so long as she didn't. The awkward silence pervaded the car, but at least it ended the endless barrage. But as time passed, and the silence continued, Haruto felt like something was strange. He hadn't particularly thought much of being leaned on, but taking a closer look... "Hmm? Did Chise-chan fall asleep?" Haruto's father asked seeing her in the rearview mirror.
"Ah, yeah. It happens sometimes- Her medicine must have worn off. I did mention her narcolepsy, didn't I?" Haruto was pretty sure he had, but it may have been lost in the confusion. "But, let's try not to disturb her." The three concluded, and the road trip continued, albeit quieter than before. It was a long drive to go completely silently for, but Haruto's did their best to not waken the sleeping girl as they chastised him for keeping such an adorable thing a secret from them.
Some time later, the car arrived at the small village Haruto knew as home. Chise woke from her nap, although she didn't even seem to have noticed that she fell asleep- Much to everyone else's amusement. "We're here! Home sweet home. Unfortunately, we don't have an extra guest bedroom... But I'm sure Haruto dear won't mind sleeping on the couch, will you?" The last bit has such emphasis on it that it was clearly not a question. Haruto grinned sheepishly. Of course, he had never expected that they would let the two stay in the same room... But couldn't they have at least found him a futon to sleep on? As for Chise, "Of course! Tomorrow I'll show you around town. But for today, it's getting late, so let's get you situated in the house!"

She didn't even realize she had fallen asleep, that's what narcolepsy will do to you, making you fall asleep at the most random parts of the day. Sometimes you could be asleep for a minute or ten minutes or an hour or even longer, there was no set pattern for narcolepsy. Perhaps she should take her medicine before starting a long car ride. What felt like a few minutes, however, was in reality a few hours as they finally arrived to Haruto's hometown. As the car stopped, Chise got out and went with Haruto to the trunk of the car to get the luggage out. "I'm really sorry for falling asleep on you. Sometimes these sleep spells just hit me out of nowhere. I should have taken my medicine before we left but the excitement of break had made me forget all about taking my medicine," Chise said with a sheepish chuckle before grabbing her bags from the back and heading towards the front tour to the Shimizu residence. Seeing the outside of it, Haruto's home was definitely much different compared to her city home. She wondered just how different the interior would be in comparison to her own home and what she was used to. Chise smiled and bowed her head for a moment, silently thanking the gods above for letting her come on a trip like this. Chise walked inside and took her shoes off at the front door once she was inside and followed Haruto around the foreign home, well not so foreign to Haruto and his family.
Hearing Mrs. Shimizu say that Chise could take Haruto's room to sleep in, the peachette felt her cheeks heat up just a bit. "A-Ah not it is alright! I would feel terrible if I made Haruto sleep on the couch of his own home. I hope not to be a burden so I can sleep on the couch!" Chise said, although she had a feeling Haruto's parents would insist on her sleeping in a bed since she was the guest. Chise turned to Haruto and spoke up with a sheepish smile, "S-So, when do I get the grand tour?" Chise asked, her nervousness mostly going away and her small cheery smile replaced the anxious grin on her face. If she was going to be spending a few days here, it would be nice to know where each of the rooms were and where certain things were in case she needed them.

“Oh, there’s no need to apologize, sweetheart!” Haruto’s mother would comfort Chise. “Haruto made us well aware of your condition. It must be quite inconvenient!” Not one to be left out, Haruto’s father piped in. “Besides, if you’d seen the look on our son’s face the whole way down, you’d know that you should really be saying, “you’re welcome!” “Dad!” Haruto interjected in embarrassment. Regardless of whether it had shown on his face as was claimed, the head of the Shimizu household wasn’t necessarily wrong. Being leaned on by the cute and soft Chise as she slept, how could Haruto feel troubled? Plus, it had helped to evade yet another round of dangerous questioning! His heart was saved in more ways than one!
However, they had to clear up one misunderstanding right away! “Chise, do you really think I could sleep comfortably with you sleeping on the couch? It’s fine, really, you can have the bed!” While in the background, his father nodded, as if to say ‘as expected of my son.’ Of course, both boyfriend and girlfriend were stubborn as mules when it came to each other, so… This might take some time to sort out. And in the end, odds were good that they would both end up sleeping together on the couch.
As for the promised house tour… It wasn’t particularly exciting. It was a one floor building in the so called, 3LDK style. Three rooms, a kitchen, dining room, and a living room that was home to the aforementioned couch. As well as, seasonally, a kotatsu- But now was not the time for that! Haruto would give brief introductions to each room- There’s only so much a person can say about the bathroom, as important as it is to know which door it is behind! And naturally, there was no purpose in exploring the room which belonged to his parents. The third room was an office which was split in two- Fairly obviously, at that! One half of the room was a cluttered mess, a wonder its occupant could find anything at all- While the other was so clean, it was almost a wonder they could stand seeing the other side of the room! It was where his parents had worked since moving to this small town, although Haruto could only shamefully admit that he still wasn’t sure what either of them did. In any case, it wasn’t an appropriate place to linger.
The last stop on the tour was likely the one Chise most anticipated- Haruto’s room. Upon stepping inside, she would be eerily reminded of his dorm at school- A place that could be considered more empty than clean. His bed lay flat against the wall, and next to his desk was a bookshelf evenly split between cookbooks and medical texts. Simply looking at it was a glimpse of what Haruto’s interests had been prior to coming to UA. “It’s not much, but it’s mine.” Haruto said with a slight smile, as though he did not mind the minimalism. “And that’s the house. How do you like it? It’s small, but as you’ll see, it’s got a great location!” It had never been a problem before, and was likely larger than an apartment in the city anyways. Besides which, the pristine natural scenery made for a treat whenever looking out the windows.

Chise was a bit relieved that Haruto's parents weren't upset at her for falling asleep on them. Although it was a bit amusing to see Haruto getting teased by his parents. When she got inside, she would have to take her medicine lest she fall asleep again. She just had to wait a few more minutes. Narcolepsy don't start acting up again! Soon enough the four of them went into the house, letting Chise see the smallish yet somewhat traditional look of the inside of the Shimizu residence. After a bit of a back and forth about who would be sleeping on the couch, it seemed Chise's voice would go on ignored as Haruto insisted on him sleeping on the couch. He really was too good to her.
Chise left her bags in the living room as Haruto made sure to give her the grand tour of his home while his parents went off to tend to other things. It was quite nice, homey even as Chise looked at each room they visited until they landed at their last stop: Haruto's bedroom. Would it be weird to say this was the room she most wanted to see? It was minimalistic like his room at school, nothing too fancy laying around, no big posters or plushies like she had. A perfectly normal room for a perfectly normal teenage boy. Hearing Haruto speak up, Chise softly smiled and spoke up herself, "It's nice...I like it." It felt like it was just right for Haruto, fitting his personality to a tee. "Your house is quite lovely Haruto. I'll have to show you my home when we get back home. My parents would love to meet you, but that's for another time," Chise said before taking a small look around the room once more. Chise walked up to Haruto and wrapped her arms around him, leaning in close and listening to his heartbeat for a few moments. "This is going to be a great spring break," she said softly with a sleepy smile. Perhaps she should take her medicine now or risk falling asleep listening to the melodious thrum of Haruto's heartbeat.

“Mmhmm, it’s a nice place.” Haruto concurred. He may be slightly biased on account if it being his home, but he was fond of it! Which was why he was happy that Chise seemed to like his family home. “I’d love to see yours! Maybe next break.” He offered. He knew that Chise tended to decorate more than he did- Her room at school was so full of plushies, what would her room at home look like!? Although the idea of meeting her parents was rather daunting, it was something he would need to do eventually… He gulped nervously at the thought.
Suddenly, he felt a pressure against his side. Looking down, he saw that Chise had leaned against him. With a soft smile, he would wrap his arm around her back. “Mmhmm,” he agreed quietly. But while he enjoyed the contact, he could tell that that wasn’t all there was to it- “Is it setting in again? Where did you put your medicine?” He asked. Although it was a little bit too late. By the time he fetched it, she would likely be too far gone. Taking advantage of her tiredness, he would carefully settle her onto the bed. “Sleep well,” he would whisper with a kiss on the forehead. The road trip had been long, anyways. It was nearly time to sleep. “I’ll show you around in the morning.”
Tucking her in and thus winning their earlier argument, Haruto would bring his beloved’s belongings in to the room, making especial care to leave her medicine next to the bed for when she woke up. In the process, “Hmm? Where’d you leave your plus one?” Haruto’s father asked jokingly. Haruto explained that she had fallen back asleep, but that she would hopefully be more able to visit in the morning. His parents understood, and the three spent some time talking about Haruto’s year away from home, before they set the couch for him to use, and the boy joined his other half in the embrace of sleep.
