Yui had jumped out Kohaku's apartment window, using the breeze combined with her umbrella to slow her descent slowly till her feet slowly met with the concrete. It felt different from grass...it was warm..TOO WARM, HOT. Zephyr ran over to the shadowy side of the street. The spring sun was in full swing and the concrete was getting a bit too warm for zephyr's feet.. Ughhhh but she hated wearing shoes.. what could she do? She walked over to a store and saw some racks of shoes. they were all super thick and bulky which she hated, until she saw something rather unique, sandals. She jumped around when she saw them and found a pair in her size!
She was about to walk out of the store when suddenly the store clerk grabbed her arm and asked her where her mother was so that she could pay for the shoes. Yui was kind of stunned for a few seconds before wondering what to do, she began to panic and cry saying she didn't have money for shoes and that her mom was gonna yell at her and stuff. Eventually the store clerk panicked at the screaming kid in her store and just told her she could have them. She immediately smiled and ran out the store thanking the lady for her kindness.
Phew that was close, Yui almost got herself into some trouble there. She wanted to go exploring into the outside world but this event just proved she had NO clue how it worked. She looked at some of the kids playing in the park who seemed to be around her age. She wondered if she could play with them..oh wait one of them had an interesting looking toy. It seemed like he balanced himself on it while the wheels seemed to help him keep moving. It was like a wooden horse! She ran around the fence as she waved her hand calling out to him "Hey! what's that? Can I try it out? can you teach me?" she said bombarding him with a bunch of questions.

434 words ft. yui fujin After school, Kenji had frantically changed into his street-clothes, shoving his uniform into his backpack, before hurrying off to the skatepark. The air was warm with spring-time, and he would soon advance to his third year of junior high. The possibility of this filled the boy with squirrelly excitement, which manifested in an inability to shut up, primarily, and sit down, secondarily. Needless to say, his days had been fraught with disciplinary action.
But now, time was his! And that meant skateboarding. Kenji dipped lazily into the bowl when it was his turn, occasionally being carried airborne by momentum. Otherwise he stood and waited his turn, or tried to do a trick off of a ramp, whatever struck his fancy. Skateboarding wasn’t really a “think about” kind of thing. He just did what he felt like.
The park was quiet, probably because it was late in the afternoon and most people were going home for dinner. Auntie didn’t keep a tight rein on the boy, though.
A girl’s voiced snagged the boy’s attention, and Kenji looked-up. Kenji skidded to a halt, his mouth drying-up at the sight of her. Her hair was blonde and bright, and she was… well, a girl… a pretty girl. And she was talking to him. The boy tilted the front end of his skateboard up, realizing that the girl was talking to him but momentarily unable to make words in reply.
“It’s uh… a skateboard,” the boy finally managed. He turned the skateboard towards the fence, and rolled closer. He noticed that her ears were kinda funny, or maybe she was wearing a headband. And she was prettier up close. Kenji dropped his gaze. His face felt hot.
“Do you know how to skateboard?” the boy tried. OBVIOUSLY NOT, if she was asking him to teach her. Kenji frantically corrected himself, “I mean, not that that’s a problem! Just! Skateboarding is hard. It’s easy to get hurt.”
He unfastened the buckle of his helmet, and lifted it from his head. The last thing he needed was for some girl to get brain-damage because Kenji was such a colossal pushover. He wiped the back of hand against his forehead, realizing that the helmet pads were probably sweaty too. His ears were hot, probably flushed with embarrassment. He put the helmet back on. He couldn’t give his sweaty helmet to a girl. And he didn’t want her to see his bright pink ears.
“You could try it if you want,” Kenji mumbled, “But only if you’re careful.”
That should be enough. It wasn’t like she was gonna do tricks or anything.

"A skate board?! How cool! I've never seen one before." she said really excitedly, she saw him dip down into the bowl of the park...she began to analyze it. She put her hand on her chin to try and figure out how it worked, gravity would pull the user down with enough force to help them reach the other side of the bowl...how innovative! It was a great way to use gravity for your own gain! She wondered what would happen if you had a tail wind pushing you, how fast of a speed could she achieve? Hmmmm she put the question to bed for now, first she had to learn how it worked! She looked at his face and began to take mental notes, he was a little taller than her, orange hair that seemed oddly shaped like a bowel- oh wait that's probably from the helmet he was wearing.
He asked her if she had any experience on a skateboard before "No, not really but I wanna learn!" she said as she stared at his unusually pink face, was it really extraneous exercise? Well that wasn't usually a problem for her cause she was always a bundle of energy when it came to playing outside and this was no different! She wondered if she could even fit that helmet over her ears... It's easy to get hurt huh? She was visibly taken a back for the second at getting hurt, her mom always warned her that she was a fragile being compared to other kids. She once broke her finger and the doctor warned the quirk-less parents that Yui's anatomy was very different to their own. Her bones were hollowed and less dense compared to other people so physical injuries involving bones would be more dangerous for her.
That warning from the doctor lingered in her head for a second before all care and worry was tossed out of her brain and she hopped up on the board. She had her umbrella hanging from her wrist causing her to lose balance at first, wiggle around for a minute but mimicking the stance he had on the board she managed to learn it quite quickly. This was like a game, she grabbed onto his shirt when she was falling but as soon as she found her center of gravity she let go slowly "Sorry, sorry, I think im ok now." She said her face showing an inkling of worry and concentration. She then looked up at him "Ok now how do I move like you did on the board?" she asked curiously as she tried to let him teach her, she saw earlier that he used his foot to push himself but she was worried that there was more to it than just that.
She then had just realized something " Oh, hey by the way I forgot to ask your name. Im Yui." she said with a small focused smile as she looked ahead trying to not be scared of the board moving from under her feet.

344 words ft. yui fujin “Haven’t seen a skateboard?” Kenji echoed in disbelief. Honestly, when God made Kenji, he should have given him a filter. Unfortunately, Kenji came as he was, pure and unadulterated, “How is that possible?”
Did this girl crawl out from under some rock? Her statement was enough to kick-start the boy’s brain and propel him past his initial bumbling. If she didn’t know what a skateboard was, that made Kenji the expert! And, as the expert, it was his duty-- no, his responsibility-- to enlighten her. About skateboards. And she said herself, she wanted to learn.
Kenji let the board fall flat as the girl approached, keeping one foot on it, to help steady it. He was about to say something, but the girl just-- leapt right in. And the boy was intrigued… once she spaced her feet, she found some sort of balance, but not before cleaving to the boy’s shirt for balance. The flush ran right back up into his ears, and the boy thinned his lips, looking away.
“You’re doing great!” he assured her, “Soon you’ll, uh, skate circles around me.”
She asked how to move and then, as an afterthought, introduced herself as “Yui”.
“Kenji,” the boy supplied, his eyes going around the girl towards the board. He was trying very hard not to look at her. If he looked at her, he’d forget how to talk again.
“S-so to move, you uh, keep one foot on the board and kinda kick at the ground,” Kenji explained artlessly, pantomiming the motion, “Then, after a few kicks, you get both feet back on. Once you, uh, really get some speed.”
The fool that the boy was, he looked up at Yui, to see if she understood what he was saying. God, she was pretty. His brain went blank again. She had this way of standing just slightly too close, and looking a little too confidently at the boy. But Kenji didn’t want to move because of how wobbly she was.
“Does that-” he began, before clearing his throat, “Does that make sense?”

Yui looked at him pouting "Cause they don't have any in the fo-" she said before realizing she'd be talking about herself and that's a no no. The young maiden paused "I don't know. I just haven't." she said looking away quickly while a sweat-drop formed on her forehead as she tried to dismiss the conversation.
She started to get the hang of this "skateboard" device, it was simple in theory a bit after she tried it out herself. "Really?!" she said to him with a glint in her eyes after he told her how good she was at this. Yui was usually indifferent towards compliments, but when it came to new stuff she LOVED to learn as much as she could. The boy then gave instructions on how to manipulate this board into moving, she watched him mimic the movement she was suppose to make. She clung onto his arms for dear life though as she did NOT want to fall, the girl moved her foot forward to back and the board moved. As soon as it moved she lost her balance for a sec, thankfully keeping her grip on Kenji to prevent her from falling. She tried it once more and this time it was less shaky, good. She tried again and this time she was ready for the board and the recoil from the friction on the ground, hey! her body adjusted naturally this time. Soon before she knew it she had let go of kenji and she went a few feet away from their original location. "Look! I did it Kenji!!" she said giddily, she looked over to the skate pit thing and pointed to it. "I wanna try that!" she said eagerly wondering if there was a trick to it. At him eagerly as she awaited instructions on what to do to be able to master the "wheel pit" as she called it.
She then wanted to ask him some more questions "How did you learn to do this? Also who made this thing? Did you make it? It's so fun!" she said eagerly trying to learn more and more about not only the skate board but about him. She was also using this as an excuse to talk to him, where Yui was from the only male she really got to talk to was her father. The boys from home avoided her on account of her status, she didn't really blame them either, how could one knowingly approach a goddess and act casual?

589 words ft. yui fujin The boy fixed Yui with a scrutinizing gaze, at her artless avoidance of the question. But scrutiny quickly gave way to a mental flat-line because, wow, she was pretty, especially with the spill of blonde hair. No further questions were asked. The attempt to propel the board was shaky at best. Yui only managed to avoid face-planting by virtue of the vicelike grip she maintained on Kenji’s arms. The flush finally drained from his face thanks to the shift in concentration. Making sure Yui didn’t fall was his new objective, and help distract the boy from how pretty the girl beside him was.
Kenji murmured recommendations periodically, telling her to space her feet more to help her center of gravity, to put a foot off of the board to steady herself, to put her arms out, or to bend her knees—stuff that seemed pretty intuitive to an experienced skateboarder, and stuff that Yui simply wasn’t doing. Kenji began to step away from Yui, mostly because her iron grip on his arm was cutting-off the circulation to his fingertips. But he didn’t completely move away from her. He kept his hand extended, available for clasping on to if she needed steadying. Finally, she seemed to get it, lowering her center of gravity and pushing herself forward. Kenji watched appreciatively.
“Good job!” the boy called back. Without missing a beat, she pointed to the cement bowl, loudly declaring that she “wanted to try that”! Kenji eyed the bowl, thinning his lips. There was a little more skill than just… propelling yourself, when it came to navigating a feature like that. There was the issue of dropping-in to the bowl (which Kenji feared would be the biggest challenge for his pupil), carving the corners or pumping the board at the right moments to create more momentum. Truth be told, it wouldn’t be all that fun for someone as new as Yui, but--
“We could try!” Kenji agreed—he was a sucker, and couldn’t say no.
The boy walked towards the bowl and, crouching down, slid down the curved side to the bottom. Nothing was stopping them from starting at the bottom, and it would probably be easier than dropping-in off of the ledge.
“Come on-“ he said, gesturing to Yui, “I’ll show you. It’s a little easier than explaining.”
As he’d wait for Yui to follow, he’d answer her questions.
“My brothers skateboard too, so I mostly learned from hanging around them,” Kenji explained, “I’ve been skating since I was little. And yeah, I chose the parts for this board, but you get the parts at a skate-shop. So I guess… I kinda made it… but it was also kinda made by the skate-shop? I guess?”
Once the board was surrendered, Kenji would step onto it.
“So, the trick of skating in a bowl,” Kenji would explain, “Is building enough speed that you don’t need to take your feet off the board. You can skate in circles for hours if you’ve got the gist of it down.”
He put both feet on the board.
“When you’re on the flat parts, the best way to do it is how I showed you before, by kicking at the ground,” he continued, “But when you’re on the curves, you want to pump your legs, like this-“ he bent his knees a little, “-if you do this at the right moments, it builds speed, and will enable you to keep going without putting a foot down.”
He stepped off the board, and asked, “Make sense?”

She listened to his story, dipping in and out of it cause she was extremely interested in just watching him skate, plus her attention span was very short. Yui stared at the dip in the bowl...worried about hurting herself she allowed for the skateboard to slide off the edge first. As she saw it go in and slide from one side to the other she gave it a few moments. Like a child staring at the edge of the world she decided the only logical thing to do was jump in after her friend who went first. She slowly made her way forward towards the edge and slid down on her butt, holding on to the edges of her dress so it wouldn't go flying up revealing more than she planned to for poor Kenji.
Yui surrendered the board to Kenji and watched in awe as he showed off his skills with the skateboard. OOoOoO he was so good, which caused one of Yui's infamous great idea's to come to mind. What if they made a super tower of power!? It wouldn't make much sense to anyone else who had heard that thought she had but she really didn't care. Before Kenji hopped off the board, she jumped into the air and used her legs to grip onto Kenji. "We're gonna go for a ride! This is gonna be fun!" she said as her voice began to be unable to hide her enthusiasm. Before Kenji could even ask what she was doing, or protest the idea she opened up her umbrella in front of her and began to glow yellow as she caused some winds to be caught in her umbrella.
This would cause Kenji to propel forwards a bit allowing her to build up enough momentum until the two were out of the bowl and onto the park. Everyone around them would look extremely confused as to what the heck was going on, a girl was illegally using her quirk? Some people had looks of concern while others looked on in disgust. Yui however, did not care, she however got a bit too trigger happy and led the pair out of the park with her winds. "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" was all that the kids in the park could hear as Yui and kenji both started to gain some distance from them.

401 words ft. yui fujin Kenji had started to step down from the skateboard when the girl all but threw herself at him. How the heck did she jump like that?! If that wasn't crazy enough, she landed on his shoulders, clutching him with her legs. He'd never even hugged a girl, much less given on a piggyback ride! The flush was fast and unforgiving, surging straight into his cheeks and ears.
"W-w-wait a minute! Y-Yui-san!" Kenji stammered. He was going to lose his balance on the board! He stepped back on, a little frantic, and as he did, the girl announced her intentions.
"What?! W-wait!"
Embarrassment was quickly replaced by panic as Yui opened her umbrella and sent the two rocketing across the bowl. Kenji yelled in alarm, lowering his center of gravity. On one hand, his instinct was to grab her calves and make sure she was steady, but if he did that, their center of gravity would suck, so he'd stick his arms out and do his best to make sure they didn't eat shit.
"Ohmygodohmygodohmygod!" the fourteen-year-old stammered, watching as they approached the edge of the bowl. Muscle memory took hold and he bent his legs, pumping the board so that it could continue upwards.
Bad move. They took to the air.
"My board!" the fourteen-year-old squeaked, feeling it start to leave his feet. Pink sleeves rippled over his feet, starting at the soles of his shoes and going up his calves. Sticky discs. That skateboard wasn't going anywhere. A delighted squeal pealed from Yui as the two were carried well over the fence and onto the park's sidewalk. They connected, then accelerated forward, whipping past pedestrians. Old couples. Moms with strollers. Students. Men with newspaper. Shouts of alarm and distaste. Prying eyes. Holy shit. He'd never gone this fast. Kenji gulped. He looked towards Yui. It was clear that she was doing this. His heart felt like it was going to explode out of his chest.
This was actually-- pretty fucking cool!
"This is awesome!" the boy yelled, allowing himself to smile, "YEEEAAAHHHH!"
They cut a little close to a vendor with a cart, and Kenji's arms pinwheeled in an attempt to keep their balance. They kept it.
They were running out of sidewalk, though-- and headed straight for the street. A street full of cars. The moment of victory was short-lived. Oh my god, they were gonna die.
"Uh, Yui?!"

Yui felt the wind going through her hair, THIS WAS AMAZINGGGGGG. She never managed to go this fast before! This board with wheels was a great idea! Her feet could have never possibly kept up with the board and with her umbrella it was the perfect combination! She looked behind her for a second, spotting Kenji. He seemed to be having fun too! Yui was glad but if she was honest she kinda forgot he was there at first, it wasnt malicious but with air power came air head moments. She dashed through the streets with him, giggling at the people watching the two zoom by. She tried to hear them warning her for some reason but the wind was too strong and blurred out the sound of the people warning her to look ahead.
She tilted her head at them, not looking where she was going. She then luckily turned her head in time to see the flood of evil metal machines covering the street, she saw as some garbage got crushed by them and began to panic. OH NO THEY'RE GONNA DIE- Oh wait, Yui could fly."I GOT THIS" Yui waited and began to focus, she began to gather up a ball of wind under her and grabbed onto Kenji as tightly as she could. "SERENE GRACE." she said "conjuring" her magic. She raised up her umbrella and a gust of wind came up from beneath the two of them. The umbrella was made specifically to not break from Yui's own wind powers so it naturally lifted the two of them above the car. The board also made it through the cars, untouched since it managed to luckily sneak a path under the cars. Yui however did not plan for the landing now that the board was gone. There was luckily another park on the other side of the street traffic.
However, not so luckily the two did not make the most graceful landing despite the "spell's" name. She managed to break her fall using kenji as the two of them rolled down the hill. Once they made it to the end Yui noticed the world was spinning actually WAYYYYYYY too fast, OH NO DID HER MAGIC DO THIS? It took a few seconds but the world finally stopped spinning, hopefully no one noticed. As soon as the world stopped spinning she turned her attention to the young boy who got sucked into her wild scheme "Are you ok?" she said looking at him "That was so cool! Lets go again!!" she said excitedly as she looked around for the board. She tried to get up but she felt a sharp pain in her leg, ouchie. She looked down and it was a bit bruised but nothing too serious, she was lucky she didn't break a bone. They were hollow so it would have taken a long time to heal, let alone that injury could have been a lot worse.

416 words ft. yui fujin Maybe it was the wind, or perhaps it was the fear of an imminent crush, but Kenji’s eyes were watering, and his expression pinched. The roar of the wind in his ears drowned-out Yui’s shout. The blond latched onto him which, in any other situation would have embarrassed the young teen to no end. Kenji just… didn’t want to die.
“What are you d-?!” she opened her umbrella and, like some nanny in an ancient movie, the two were carried skyward.
In his moment of distraction, Kenji released the sticky disc that had held the board, and it went skittering across the street.
“My board-!” he gasped. Then belatedly, “Ah fuck, this is high-!”
He clung to Yui, his eyes wide with fear. Snotty little redheads weren’t supposed to be this high off of the ground. The flight was short-lived. It snapped out of existence, dropping the two. Kenji got the worst of it, the collective harsh landing and the toppling blond knocking the wind out of him.
The world quivered and wheeled around him dizzily, the sounds reeling like a bubble. He tried to inhale, got nothing. Tried again. Yui came into view. The boy sat-up, wheezing, until he finally coughed, violently, into his clenched fist. His head was reeling, and Yui’s voice came into focus just in-time for Kenji to hear her enthusiastic proclamation that they should do it again.
“Wh- I, uh- you-” so many thoughts clamored to be spoken. And none of them seemed to reign victorious. The fall must have jumbled the boy’s thought processes. Finally, Kenji seemed to look around with an ounce of focus, and noticed that his board was nowhere to be seen. He got stiffly to his feet, various points of his body screaming out in a dull ache.
“Ah, ow,” he grunted, looking around, “I would, uh, love to, but… my board’s gone? I think I saw it… go down over there… better go see if it got out okay. Come on-”
Or run-over. Or stolen.
He dragged his palm against the front of his shirt before extending his hand to Yui, to help her up, “You okay?”
As if he hadn’t just been clinging to her for dear life, and his hand warranted wiping. Assuming she’d accept his hand, Kenji would pull her to her feet, assisting her as needed. The walk towards the street would be slow-going, the redhead hobbling a bit as he went.
“So, you uh… fly,” the boy remarked, “That’s wild.”

Yui looked at his hand and saw him extending it to help her up, she tried to stand up but as soon as she did she felt a small pain. She winced a bit at the pain, it wasn't so bad, it was one of the few times she felt pain since she was sheltered the majority of her life. However depsite it being not that bad Yui was a dramatic child and this minor convenience mean the world had to stop and pay attention to her. She dramatically fell on her knee and grabbed at her ankle. "Ouchie!" she said wincing at it, god she was terrible at dealing with this pain thing. How did other people deal with it so easily? She saw people in her clan shrug off cuts and bruises as if they were nothing, was it because of Yui's presence? Did they shelter this pain for her joy? Naww couldnt be..could it?
WOAH WAIT THAT'S TOO DEEP FOR HER THOUGHTS, BACK TO THE SITUATION AT HAND. Yui looked at Kenji, "It hurts too much- WAIT MY SANDALS." she said realizing that they flew off. She looked around but they were nowhere to be found, oh wait! there they were! That guy had them! Wait why was he yelling and angrily walking towards them? Oh gosh they had to go but Yui was in NO condition to be running. What were they going to do? she looked at Kenji "Yeah it's wild but I cant do it again and we gotta run from that guy!" she said with a panic in her voice. If that guy got to her it was game over, she would get not only herself but kohaku in trouble and she'd be sent right back home to her clan!
She looked at Kenji with big puppy dog eyes screaming help. "Please, we gotta get away from him! Can you help me?" she said with a panic "I'll pay you back! I promise!" she said knowing full well she had no way to compensate Kenji other than being a pain in his side.

307 words ft. yui fujin The girl tried to stand and then crumpled as soon as she put weight on her leg. She might've broken something, or at least sprained something. Sometimes sprains were worse though. Kenji frowned. Yeah, they definitely wouldn't be hopping onto a missing board if she was injured.
Some man was running towards them and yelling, waving Yui's sandals as he chastised them. Kenji laughed at the absurdity of it all-- what would the guy do, arrest them? Then again... they weren't supposed to use their quirks...
"Yeah, yeah I'll help," Kenji said quickly. He knelt on the ground, his back to Yui, "Wrap your arms around my neck-- n-not too tight, ah-!"
She'd already shown she couldn't stand, so clearly piggie back rides were the way to go. Kenji stood , looping his arms under Yui's legs, and took off at a steady trot. He ran right past the yelling man, in the direction that they'd come from. He had to get his board-- his skateboard was his life. There were murmurs as Kenji ran, his head swivelling-- everything looked different from ground-level-- ah, they'd come from that way. He took off running again.
Kenji paused at the street-side, a metallic glint in the road catching his eye. The trucks-- and those were wheels-- the piece of wood it clung to was little more than splinters. His board had been crushed under the hapless wheels of vehicles.
"Shiiiiiiit," Kenji breathed. Now that he looked closely, the wheels were totally chewed-up too. Probably useless to salvage. God knew where the other truck and wheels were.
It wasn't like when his Dad broke things. This was random. Not malicious. Still didn't make it suck any less.
"Where should we go?" he asked, clearing a wetness from his throat. It was the only hint of any dismay over the shattered skateboard.

"That way!" She said wasting no time telling Kenji where to go, the guy was hot on their trail after all. She clung onto his neck in a panic and then let go when he immediately told her it was too tight, dont wanna choke out your trusty steed right? Anyways they had to friggin GO the man was going to catch the both of them at this rate and they couldn't afford being caught. well at least Yui couldn't afford being caught, she had much more at stake than she thought that Kenji did. She shouted instructions as they ran off at the speed of light from the old man with her sandals. The two of them eventually, after around 30 minutes since they got lost since yui kinda had no idea where to go found their way back to her house.
As soon as they arrived Yui would speak again "Finally we're here." she said as she suddenly hopped off Kenji's back and acted like she was all fine with her foot. "Oh." she said realizing he'd probably be confused as to why the girl who couldn't run for the past thirty minutes could now just hop off on that foot so quickly, heh the answer was actually much simpler. "My foot stopped hurting a while back, I can walk on it again. i just didn't want to. The concrete's a bit hot and without my sandals since he took em." she said with a small doofy smile. She had fun with Kenji! He seemed to be pretty obedient and Yui LOVED a good pawn~ With that she gave Kenji a big hug to thank him! "Thanks for playing with me. I had a lot of fun! You can come over whenever you want since now you know where I live. I'd love to hang out again but KK is probably already fuming at me for sneaking out!" she said as she then turned around and ran towards the door while waving to him "Byeeee kenji!" she said with a smile. Yui was glad she made her first friend on her own.
