It was a quiet morning in the mountains, but it was everything but relaxing. The sounds of a girl running herself ragged can be faintly heard in the distance. One can see a red-haired girl being launched in all sorts of directions as she does a manner of kicks on various trees, showing signs that she has been at this spot for a few weeks.
It has been a while since the Sports Festival ended, it was an amazing time and everyone did their best, but her tournament match has been on her mind. During an extended period of rest at the hospital, the memories of her match stayed fresh in her mind in her recuperation. As soon as she was discharged and was cleared of everything, she was planning her training regime on the way back to UA. Her family and friends were so shocked that she was so resilient, they were both proud and worried to see their baby girl like that, especially her father. They were so close to flying over and take her back to the states, but she convinced them that she has no regrets and wants to continue her time here at UA. It was an uphill battle but the match was a wake up call that she needs to train even harder in order to catch up with the titans of the school. Well that’s what she told herself on the way back to the dorms.
Even then, she felt something deep in her chest that didn’t sit well with her. It could be anxiety, could be sorrow, could be regret, could be several things that have dug deep into her. Was it her words? Was it her actions? Could she have responded differently? Could she have planned out her attacks better? Did she even have a chance of winning? All these thoughts going through her head as she laid down on her bed staring at the ceiling with tears in her eyes. It’s a hard pill to swallow to realize that you lost in front of whole world, in the most one-sided match. All she could hear is her heartbeat as the tears went down her face as she blamed herself for several reasons. She kept a strong face in front of her friends and family but deep down, she tried her best to keep it together. Lady Luck was a cruel one when those match ups came up and the reality of her dream hit her dead on like a steel wall. It was a miracle that she didn’t have any lasting injuries, but her pride shattered like a glass vase.
After an hour of her blaming herself and calming herself down, she slowly picked herself up and planned her new training schedule. Her path leading straight to the mountains to training both herself and her quirk in new ways. She was dressed in normal training outfit as she jogged on her path up to a good part of the mountain where she spent her time training her quirk and its application. She worked on her kicks and its application, her breathing and its energy usage related to her legs, how to launch off quickly and from more uneven surfaces. She trained her fists and how to use them in tandem with her strong points. Early hours every morning before the start of school, she would come here and train herself to near exhaustion, at several points she would curse herself for not having enough strength to win. She swore to herself that she would getting stronger, not for others or anyone else, but to herself.
Three weeks after she started her regime, she yielded some results in the form in an accident; she jumped in the air and overshot her intended spot to kick where she discovered that she can hop mid-air, it was surprised when she landed on the ground. But it opens a whole new world of movement in terms of how she can approach future situations involving flying opponents and how to take down opponents using this method. It wasn’t enough as it was a full-on upgrade and but more a new way of thinking when it came to using her quirk. She wondered what that rescue lesson would be like if she learned by that point. But it was a start nevertheless, a small but important step for her as a hero and regaining her self-confidence.
“This will be the ace in the hole in the future for sure", she says proudly.
But weeks went on by and nothing new came up, it became a cycle of her coming to train, curse herself out, try new thing and how to apply it in more ways, go back to the dorms and shower, go to school and so on and so forth. The moment that broke her was realizing what she has been doing for the past few weeks and just broke down at the thought that she is stagnating in her skills. She punched the ground with all her might, cursed herself for having all these huge dreams, she could only see the face of that monochrome girl looking down at her as she walked away from the stadium. She screamed in rage and it echoed through the forest as she just yelled what she was fighting for, her body ached, and her legs burned but there were no improvements.
“GOD DAMMIT ALL, WHATS THE POINT OF ALL OF THIS !!”, She yelled.
Jealously, Rage, Sorrow, Regret, all these emotions gushing forth in a flood as she opened a barrage on a particularly sturdy tree. It withstood every hit as Feng let out all her emotions in every kick, each kick sending a message to herself and the world that she will succeed. To the world, to her friends, to her family, to society, to herself, every kick carrying a message that she will achieve her dreams and become a hero that everyone will look to the skies in joy. To leave a mark on the world that the Typhoon Dragoon existed and is one of the worlds best heroes that can stand tall along aside her peers.
"GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAH", She screamed.
Her barrage of kicks slowed, and intensity of each kick went down. As she came to a stop and took a few minutes to catch her breath. She noticed something about her legs, an odd sight to see steam coming off her springs. She went to feel it and it was hot to the touch, which caught her off guard. Feng looked up at the tree she was kicking and frantically threw water and dirt on the tree to make sure it wasn’t to catch fire or anything. After that, she just fell flat on her butt and just burst out laughing. Everything that drove her over the edge, all the insecurities, anger and sadness went away as the steam came off her springs. She poured a bit of water on her legs and more steam came fourth, confirming her suspicions that she “overheated” her springs. she sat on her but for half an hour as she took in the scenery around her. After that she got up and went back to the dorms to get ready for school with the knowledge that everything will be alright with this new ability she discovered about her quirk. That she will be ok as long she continues her training. This is her first real step to becoming the high-flying heroine.
“The legend of the Typhoon Dragoon starts now” , she says to herself with a smile on her face as she leaves the dorms.
