How he got Goro's number, well, he did tell the guy he had his ways. He had called him once before, yet he didn't expect to call him just a month after their secret Vigilante outing. Since the night Nightmare was unleashed. He laid down the rules, Goro knew those. He would also know how strict Yusaku was about those. He was risking alot for Goro. Everything, pretty much.
Still, what he was doing was the right thing. Whoever hurt Goro the first time the bat boy wore him was no friend of his. He had to find a way to pull Goro out of that sick world. Though to do that he would have to educate him to not...well...act like the scum that was torturing and forcing him to do whatever dirty work they wanted him to do.
Bat boy had been reckless in his latest stunt, something that Yusaku couldn't just stuff under a rug. That was the reason of Yusaku's call that night. At this point, he couldn't let Goro waltz around with his secrets and half truths. If he truly wanted to be Nightmare, then no more secret were tolerated.
As such, Yusaku waited for his guest to arrive, sitting on the couch in his usual bat form, albeit with a few improvements. The new shell sure looked way more stunning and way sturdier than the last one. He would surely make quite the first impression, that he knew. It was exactly what he wanted. Goro should tell right away he was pissed to no end, even though he had no mouth or facial features to show it.

Countless, ice cold talons gripped Goro’s body, stabbing right through his wings and pinning him to the prison walls behind him. Two more punched through the skin of his back, while another three dug into his stomach. He cried out in pain, but heard nothing back besides a painful ringing in his ears. The agony coursing through his body was the only thing that told him what was happening to his wings, as steam obscured his vision and his ears failed him. Mother was here. Goro couldn’t see her or hear her, but he knew all the same. Just as her presence set in for him, and pinprick tears began to well up in his eyes, her voice began to echo through his head. Even robbed of his hearing, her voice was still clear as day. “GORO, YOU USELESS WHELP!” If Goro’s ears had not already given up, he would expect them to at any moment from the volume of the hate-filled voice surrounding him. “YOU HAD ONE PURPOSE, AND YOU COULDN’T EVEN MANAGE THAT!” The claws dug in tighter and tighter as the screaming continued, echoing through Goro’s head. “I’D EXPECTED MORE FROM YOU WHEN I ALLOWED YOU TO LIVE AFTER YOUR FIRST FAILURE, BUT OBVIOUSLY THAT WAS A MISTAKE!” Each word echoed longer and longer in his mind, until all he could hear was the word ‘MISTAKE’, over and over and over again. Even the ringing was drowned out. Goro opened his mouth as if to defend himself, but another freezing talon shot into his throat. The liquid that came forth was foul-smelling and, though barely visible, far blacker and viscous than blood. Oil. Oil that ran down his body and up into his mouth, choking out any air- Goro’s eyes shot open as he coughed himself awake from yet another nightmare. He was in his hotel room, not some dank prison cell, all his senses were functioning, and his tablet was just finished vibrating from a new message. Fear shot through him immediately, only to be replaced by confusion as he finished collecting himself from his dream and read the text. It wasn’t from Mother, thank God, but the actual recipient was someone he’d never expected. Izumi. Immediately, Goro ran through everything that’d happened the last time they’d met, sure that he’d not left a moment where the robot could’ve installed a backdoor onto his tablet. But, if he did have a backdoor onto it, why would he only send a text and not something more? Either way, Goro wasn’t going to leave Izumi waiting, lest he attempt something more intrusive. The walk to Shibuya wasn’t nearly as painful this time; it helped that he wasn’t bleeding out this time around. The receptionist seemed to expect him, and merely slid him the room key over the desk, not speaking a word. Goro didn’t bother meeting his eye before turning and heading to the lifts. The sight that greeted him as he opened the hotel room door almost prompted Goro to simply turn and leave again. The bags under his eyes probably more than conveyed how little he was in the mood to be lectured by this robot.

Yusaku slowly got up and walked over to Goro. He closed the door of their room behind them before speaking. "First of all, I know what you did on tv and lemme tell you: I am beyond pissed." The robot calmly stated. It seemed that he was one of those people with a more calm anger. The insidious kind which explodes in wrath when you least expect it. "You have know idea, do you, of just how much I risk for you." Yusaku added, tip tapping his way back to the couch, slightly showing off his new body. "Did you ever stop and think for a moment...think the reason I risk pretty much my life for you?" Turning around to face the bat boy, Yusaku gave out a long sigh. Goro probably just thought of him as just a tool. For Yusaku, however, it was a different story. "Many have worn me. A whole lotta people. Yet only a handful of them feel special. Hell, less than a handful even. The fact is, Goro, that while you don't give two shits about me I actually genuinely care for you." He said it. He didn't stutter. He didn't falter. He stated it loud and clear. "I adore being worn. It's not because it makes my body feel great. It's because I enjoy spending time with the people I hold most dear to me. In a way, I get to become a part of the people I look up to. I get to...be human again. Well...feel like one technically. I get to share their great virtues." This time the robot walked up to the window, checking outside. "The first time we became Nightmare...the feeling was indescribable. I never felt better in my life. And the more we shuffled around giving a good lesson to those thugs the more I realized...I want to be Nightmare. I want to be Nightmare again." Yusaku's tail twitched in excitement as he recalled their last night together. Once again facing Goro, he pointed at himself. "I want you to wear me again. The freedom I tasted while you were piloting me was so sweet and I want so much more of it. I want you to give me the courage to do the things I want again, despite it being right or wrong." Pausing a moment to give his guest time to digest all that he said, he took that opportunity to take out something from the big closet. It was a mannequin, holding a jet black full-body suit with purple highlights here and there. It seemed to be made of spandex, or at the very least a stretchy material. It had integrated boots and fingerless gloves. When Yusaku turned it around, he showed a zip up and two neatly tailored wing hole, making it pretty clear that suit had been tailored for Goro himself. The bat boy could guess that the robot pretty much was able to take measurements of his bode when he first wore him. "It's thanks to you that I have somewhat improved my confidence. I broke out of my shy shell a little. All because you showed me how to just wing it and impose my ideals on others regardless of what they think. You showed me I don't have to cower away all the time." Another long sigh echoed out as Yusaku finally settle down on the couch, a worried look in his eyes. "That suit there was tailored for you by my cousin's wife. The same that got you the new tshirt last time. It's supposed to be a pilot suit. Something to let you better integrate with me and allow better movement as Nightmare. She doesn't know what we did, but when I told her my friend wore me in shorts and tshirt she was adamant to create something that would feel less rough around the edges." Was all he said about his apparent gift to Goro. "I was...so happy you understood our rules. Even though you kept your secrets and spoke in half truths. I respected your privacy as best as I could, but now I wonder if it was all just a hoax. I saw you kill people, in tv no less." Feeling he had blabbed out long enough and pretty much rambled about everything too, Yusaku decided to stop beating around the bush and just get to the point. He stopped in front of Goro and gently put one of his claws on the bat boy's shoulder. "I told you many times I want the truth from you, but from this point forward if you wish to keep this relationship going there needs to be no secrets between us. The real reason I allowed you to wear me and use my powers was because I was trying to...well...bail you out of your bad situation. I can't stand seeing you kill and I can't stand seeing you tortured. I know you can be way better than this and I know those wounds you had on your wings were there for a reason. You weren't alone in your tv stunt, so the other guys must be from the same mafia gang you're in. I am more than sure they were the cause of your wings wounds too. I don't know the reason, but usually when you fuck up something you get that kinda treatment. Do you consider them your family? Would someone that cares about you give you those kind of nasty wounds? Ah. Forget it. In the end...I guess I just don't want to lose you, despite you being a murderer. As I said, I admire a little part of you, the one that showed me what courage and confidence is. I thought we could have been friends. Well, if there is even a smidge of care in you for me, now's the time for you to show it. As it stands, I offer you a choice:" Yusaku pointed at the entrance door. "If you don't care about me you can leave, give the key to the room back to the receptionist and walk away from here. You can forget we ever met and forget everything we have ever done. I won't bother you anymore and we'll go our separate ways." The robot then moved his claw to the pilot suit. "Or you can grab that suit, try it out and wear me, becoming Nightmare once more. From there, we'll go for a long walk on the rooftops together and tell me everything about your situation, let me help you. If you do want to keep the one person that is truly trying to help you, the only person who's actually a bucket of bolts yet he's worried sick about what you're doing and doesn't want you to get in trouble well...you know what to do." So what will it be, Goro?

Goro just stood and watched quietly as Izumi closed the door behind him. It sounded like he had a hell of an axe to grind, and Goro wasn’t about to interrupt him mid-sentence.
He didn’t move away from the doorway, despite Izumi’s constant shifting throughout the room. The only movement Goro made was his eyes, following the robot wherever he went. That was until Izumi brought out the mannequin, and showed off the wing holes, at which point Goro’s wings twitched reflexively, as if he were checking to confirm they would fit him.
He fell silent once more, barely reacting as Izumi walked up to him once more but flinching as his claws fell on his shoulder. The memory of his earlier nightmare had not yet faded, and the feeling of such a sharp implement on his shoulder only made him expect it to be stuck straight through him at any moment. The reminder of his earlier wounds, still unhealed, didn’t help matters.
“Do you consider them your family? Would someone that cares about you give you those kind of nasty wounds?”
Bile rose in Goro’s throat, threatening to push its way out entirely. He remained silent, but now it was less a choice and more an inability to respond at all. Did Mother care about him? That wasn’t a hard question to answer; of course she didn’t. He was the failure, the unintended hanger-on. She didn’t care about him because he wasn’t worthy of it. Even now, with Nick in prison, Mother probably cared more for him than Goro. Would that even change if Goro were to defeat Nick again? If Goro were to kill him?
And that made everything Izumi was saying even worse. He didn’t want to lose him? He thought they could’ve been friends? Was Izumi trying to get something out of him, or was he so blind that he couldn’t see how worthless Goro was?
For a moment, he was frozen to the spot. Then, he lightly pushed Izumi’s claw from his shoulder, and turned to the door. The doorknob felt ice-cold, and he struggled to even turn it, Izumi’s presence behind him almost as overwhelming as Mother’s had been in his nightmare. He only turned the doorknob an inch before his hand fell from it and he fell to his knees, slumping against the door defeated.
A deep breathe, to gather his thoughts, to answer everything Izumi had said in the right order, before Goro spoke. “I wasn’t the one who asked you to risk any of what you have for me. You made that decision.” His forehead was still pushed against the door, and his voice was quiet and strained. “And I don’t understand why you ever would.”
“What you've gotten out of me is things you could learn from nearly any mutant. Maybe if you'd found someone else, you'd be better off. You have other pilots, so I don't understand why you bother with someone like me.” He wasn't crying, his eyes were dry, but he might as well have been.
“If you're looking to feel human again, I'm the last person you should be asking.” Goro finally turned his head to look back at Izumi, only barely registering the changes in his chassis. “I don't regret what I did at Tokyo5. I helped killed someone who'd tried to kill a dozen others. Your classmates, even. The world’s better off without her in it.”
Goro paused, as the memories of his actions flooded back. The fear and hate in her eyes, the way her skin gave way under the knife, and what remained of her after Lavende was done. Somehow, for the moment at least, that victory felt hollow on repeat viewing. Even it wasn’t enough to purge the noxious anxiety from Goro’s mind, even momentarily.
“However, I do regret agreeing to your terms without further clarification. I had assumed what you’d asked of me only applied to our actions as Nightmare, not… overall.” Goro’s voice was even quieter now. He had to almost force the words out. “You may not believe this, but I was not lying to you when I agreed. Nor am I lying now.”
He met Izumi’s eyes for the first time that day, and his gaze was somehow even more lifeless than usual. “You should’ve just abandoned me when you had the chance. It’s not worth the effort of pitying me. But if you feel the need to continue anyway, then I-I…”
What was he about to say? It had left him just as quickly as it had come. Usually, it was easy to translate his thoughts into words, but this time he was overcome with emotions he just couldn’t process, let alone distill into spoken words. But, he had to try.
“T-then I don’t want to let that effort go to waste…” Goro muttered, barely audible. “Being Nightmare made me powerful, for once in my life, and I don’t want to give that up. I can’t live with how worthless I am, I n-need something to make me forget about it.”
He stood up, only to slump over onto Izumi as he tried to walk closer to him. His arms hung limply by his sides. “And as long as you’re willing to continue being Nightmare, than I-I’ll stay here. I can’t tell you everything about my situation, but I suppose Nick gave enough information on the broadcast that you’d be able to put together most of it on your own anyway. It’s safer if I just tell you, rather than…” The image of Izumi broken at Mother’s feet flashed in Goro’s head again, and he shivered a little. He was so out of it, he barely even realised he’d dropped Nick’s real name, rather than calling him Abaddon, but that didn’t matter anyway. The news had already made everyone well aware of it.
“I suppose you probably don’t want to fight with me again, since I’d be holding your strength back, but I don’t wish to stay in this hotel room any longer than necessary. Just… Just give me a moment.”
There was something ironically comforting about Izumi’s cold, metal exterior, and his emotionless face. It was as if Goro was looking at a mirror of himself, but every time the robot spoke that feeling was shattered. Despite Izumi’s own thoughts on the matter, he certainly had more grip on his humanity than Goro did his own.

Yusaku was dying on the inside. To see something like this...and people said only machines could break.
He gently slipped his arms around the bat guy, tring to confort him. A hug seemed the only thing he could do right now to make the whole situation a little bit better. He didn't speak. Goro had asked for "a moment" so that he would grant him.
"Look, the situation as it is...it's really difficult for me." Yusaku broke the ice after a minute of two of their weird and slightly awkward cuddling. "Associating myself to a villain is something I shouldn't be doing. Especially now that you showed your face to everyone. I personally think you are wrong on killing that lady, but I can't really stop you. I just hoped to make you realize that actions have consequences. Hence the rule thing."
Yusaku looked in the distance and patted Goro's back. "The world isn't about getting powerful. Everything is just a construct of society as a whole, really." He should probably let Goro go, now. Let him wiggle free of Yusaku's grasp.
"Money is just something we invented. Power too. If every person alive stopped caring about money, then it would have no meaning. That is not to say that it should not mean anything, it's more of a way of saying that everyone has something that means alot to them. In my case, is the people I consider friends or family. The few that see me as a guy rather than the bucket of bolts the world sees."
Not being able to give out a small yet warm smile was yet another one of Yusaku's limitations when it came to expressing his emotions. "And you are my friend, no? Which means you aren't really worthless. Sure, you looked like a royal dickface on tv and you've made some very bad choices. But I wouldn't be trying to be a hero if I just quit. My job is to help people, regardless of who they are. This means that I want to help you, even though you killed people. My purpose is to save lives and it's exactly what I'm trying to do right now.
Sure, I might be found out and I might get in trouble. I would probably get expelled from U.A and get branded as a 'killer sympathizer' and all. To be honest, heroes all are kind of hypocrites on some things. All this talk about helping, yet no help is given to bad guys. Some, like you, are bad guys because of their situation and not will. Personally I say those are the guys that need saving the most."

Goro didn’t reciprocate the hug at all, but he didn’t shy away from it as he would’ve before. He just let the moment go on; the feeling of cold steel around him comforting for a reason he couldn’t place.
Even if he didn't understand it, he certainly wasn't about to let go of it. He wanted this moment to last as long as possible, he'd have willed himself to fall right back to sleep then and there if reality wouldn't inevitably butt in.
And butt in it did, as the robot spoke up again. Talking about how hard it was for him to stay associated with him, how in the wrong Goro was, how Izumi knew so much more than him. How did he think lecturing him was going to help? But then again, why had Goro expected anything else from a UA student?
Izumi’s grip loosened, eventually, but Goro didn’t take the opportunity to stand properly. He just continued to slump down over him, begging the metal to not loosen any further.
All this talk about who Izumi considered his friends, his family, and yet, he said those were the people who saw him as a person. A human being. Something Goro didn’t, and both of them knew it. When he called Goro his friend; was he lying to himself, or to Goro? It didn’t make him feel any better, so there didn’t seem much point to it.
Maybe he was imagining it, but it felt like the cool surface engulfing him grew slightly warmer for just a moment. Even if that was all it was, it was a nice feeling, and he didn’t really want to give it up.
When he was completely certain Izumi was done talking, he spoke again, his face half-buried in Izumi’s torso. “You called me your friend, but you said your friends see you as a person. We both know that’s not true for me, so why make me an exception?”
“And, if you know the world at large will abhor you for merely associating with me, why are you going ahead and doing it anyway? Surely, you have goals beyond your attempts to ‘better’ me, you should be focusing on them instead, instead of risking everything on one person.” He didn’t bother to argue about whether or not he had any worth, since obviously Izumi was going to stick to his guns, but it was impossible to convince Goro of something so fundamentally wrong.
Eventually, when he could bring himself to, he peeled his face from Izumi’s chassis, leaving a sweaty mark on his torso. He stepped over to the suit, and ran his fingers over the smooth material. It seemed like it would be comfortable, though maybe a little tight over his fur. He unzipped the spandex from the mannequin, and pulled it off, taking it as slowly as possible as if any sudden movements could rip it.
“I’ll tell you as much as I can, b-but not in here. Once we’re outside.” With that, he left for the bathroom to change.

Yusaku patiently waited for Goro to try out his new pilot suit. It was going to happen, Yusaku was turning into Nightmare again. Part of him was scared. Part of him was ecstatic. He wanted it to happen. That way he'd be able to find out more about Goro, which meant he could help him way better.
The robot hopped closer to Goro once he showed himself donning the pilot gear. He circled his friend, observing how well the suit fit on him. He gently placed a claw on Goro's wings that were now clad in armor. Armor made to look like him. Those wings would soon be his, too.
"Eheh...how ironic. Out of all the people in the world...the only one caring about you is just a simple robot. Think about that." Yusaku mused.
"It's true. I know you consider me just a soulless bunch of metal. But I know that you know that I genuinely care about you now. Even just a little." Yusaku answered Goro's question by putting his right claw on his heart. "And...honestly...that's all tha matters in the end. Right, so...it's about time we uuh...let Nightmare have some time outside." No reason to delay the inevitable. Goro was going to finally open up. Yusaku knew it was like opening Pandora's box, but that didn't scare him off. If anything it gave him more resolve to fix things.
The robotic bat then slowly unlocked all of his plates from head to toes, folding open just enough so that Goro could climb inside his metallic frame. Once again, the bat boy would be forced to wiggle his feet into a digitigrade stance to fit into Yusaku's claws. Thankfully, the pilot suit he was wearing made the task infinitely more easy. With legs now snug in place, Yusaku started to armor up Goro's arms as the guy sinked further into the foam interior of the robot.
Click click click. Yusaku's plates locked closed from the three fingered claws all the way up to Goro's shoulders. Chest plates would cover up the guy's chest soon after. The robot didn't leave any wiggle room this time, keeping himself tight on Goro. That way, his movements would be translated 1 to 1 to Yusaku's frame. Plus, it felt like hugging...and man did Goro need alot of hugging.
Now, the lower back plates and Yusaku's tail settled in position nicely. The proplem would be the upper plates. Yusaku had a general idea on how to go about integrating Goro's wing armor into himself. He didn't expect to suffer a little though. His plates always locked into each other without even a millimeter of give. Now he had to make space for not one but two new pairs of interlocking plates and all their servos that'd allow Goro's wings to move.
Yusaku finished covering up Goro's body up to his neck plates, the last piece to snap shut being the ear pads, barring the two spots on Goro's back where the armored wings poked out of Yusaku's chassis. He left Goro's head untouched, for now. "Right...so...we're almost done. I just...need to integrate your wings and we'll be one."
He began by closing up the two shoulder blade plates, noticing that he'd have to kinda brute force the wings in a little. "It's gonna be a little uncomfortable now, I know... I'd go limp if I were you. Just in case."
Man, uncomfortable was an euphemism. It fucking hurt like hell. So much so that the pain had Yusaku forced on his and Goro's knees as the robot desperatly tried to force some space between his plates so that they could lock into the wing armor instead of between themselves. The bat boy sadly didn't have a choice but get dragged into the whole thing. He could clearly feel Yusaku's twitching and writhing as he forced his plates to reconfigure against what they were normally supposed to do. On his side there was some major discomfort as Yusaku pressed hard on the base of Goro's wings, but not much so to be painful, trying to squeeze the armor into his body. On Yu's side of things...he was in hell.
Yusaku muffled a pained screams as to four loud cracks ringed in their hotel room. Good thing walls were soundproof. Yusaku's claws were gripping on the floor so hard he had begun to dig into the moquette. Then, after two minutes of what seemed like torture...
*Click clack click clack*
To upper joints, two lower joints finally locked in. Sweet relief after a world of pain. Yusaku had to force the locking mechanism to bend into a new position, but now that it was done, he souldn't have to go through that pain again next time. Best of all...he could now feel them. Whatever Goro had done while constructing such wing armor, it had haptic tecnology inside... it was allowing Yusaku to feel them like he would for any part of his own body. As soon as they were in, his hud beeped, signaling a successful installation. A nice change from the flurry of warnings signaling a problem with the locking system moments prior.
Yusaku took a moment to relax his body a little, his new wings trembling lightly as he slumped onto the ground. He already had control of the servos within them. Goro had done a masterful job. He was kinda amazed how good they responded. "D-done... t-they are in..." Yusaku declared, seemingly out of breath as he gently pushed themselves back on their clawed feet. "Well, now Nightmare has wings. It wasn't too bad." He lied, it was so bad he was still somewhat trembling. "S-sorry to have you faceplanting on the floor."
The robot stood in front of the mirror inside the room, allowing Goro to admire his armored form for a few moments. Slowly, he spread out the somewhat aching mechanical wings to their full wingspan, admiring them for a moment. They were his now. His wings. Well...Nightmare's wings technically, but he'd savor them for just a moment. He had all the right in the world to be a little selfish for once.
He gently took Goro's glasses off of him and settled them aside, opening a slot in his right thigh where he could safely store them. His hud would correct for Goro's eyesight as long as they were together. No reason to keep glasses under heavy armor. "We'll keep these safe. I wouldn't want to break them once you're wearing me over your head." He concluded, knowing Goro would understand.
Things seemed to have settled down now. "Alright. Say goodbye to old Goro for a while..." Yusaku mused as he closed up his mouth guard, following with lowering his visor over goro's eyes and finally wrapping around his head. Just a moment of complete darkness, and Goro's sight lighted up again, this time with a neon green hud feeding him all kinds of information, like last time. "Cause it's time for Nightmare to have some time for himself." Yusaku concluded his sentence using the distorted mixture of his and Goro's voice.
He chuckled. Despite the pain, he was still excited. He shited them into a cocky stance, more fitting for someone like Nightmare.. "Fancy a walk then?"

As someone un-used to wearing skintight clothing, every movement Goro made felt like hell. At the very least, whoever'd made the suit had accounted for his fur very slightly, but it was still a highly unpleasant sensation of whatever material it was rubbing against it.
He supposed it was better than risking getting any of it caught in Izumi's chassis. That didn't stop him from trying to adjust it a bit as he made his way over to Izumi.
It was moments like this that made him regret the haptic feedback in his armour. Every time a claw rested on his body, he had to hold back from crying. The echoes of his nightmare were still clinging tight to his mind, and even if Izumi didn't mean it, Goro was still ready for his attempts at comfort to suddenly turn him into a pincushion.
‘The only one caring about you is a simple robot’, hm? It was… about right. No one else was stupid enough to care, after all. Not Nick, for sure, and especially not Mother. Usually, he’d object to such a thing, but he wasn’t in any mood for arguing today. Instead, he just nodded silently.
Again, he winced at the claw on his heart. Again, Izumi’s words of comfort only made Goro feel even worse on the inside.
“Sure.” He muttered. At least Nightmare would be some respite for him, however small. Already turned around, he could hear Izumi open up, and stepped backwards into him the moment he thought there was enough space to do so. He wasn’t waiting another second to be Nightmare again. Even if it did mean having to speak openly about things he’d been told never to share, under threat of death, the sheer power offered to him in those moments would do enough to offset that anxiety. Hopefully.
Immediately, the reason for the pilot suit made itself clear. It really was a work of genius, whoever’d first conceived of it, as the slight tugging on his fur all but melted away as he fit into Izumi’s chassis. The interior flexing and pushing against his body was still strange to be sure, but much less so. Maybe, if he became accustomed to it, he’d eventually be able to call it comforting, but not for the moment.
He swept his wings out behind both of them, doing his absolute best to line them up with the rest of Izumi’s plating. Of course, there’d need to be some calibrating no matter what he did, but he could make it a little easier on the robot at least. All he’d have to do is move his back plating around a little, it couldn’t be that difficult…
Izumi’s warning kind of confused him, so Goro didn’t bother to listen until it was a little too late. He lurched forward, taking Goro’s legs with him. He winced at the horrible angle his leg had been pulled into. Even as he let it go limp, the muscles were still being stretched in just the wrong way. With how much Izumi’s interior was pressing against his body already, every little motion he made was clear as day.
For a brief moment, Goro was terrified he’d broken him. That he’d fucked up making the wings, and that Izumi was malfunctioning trying to integrate them. The pressure on the injured base of his wings was painful, but not enough that it would force a sound out of him.
It may have been muffled, but Izumi’s scream might as well have been clear as day to Goro, considering their proximity. That, more than any physical pressure, more than anything else, was what snapped Goro out of his haze and left him completely awake for the first time that day.
Izumi was in pain. He could feel pain. This wasn’t just a matter of a machine not quite functioning correctly, but trying to force the wings through was hurting him.
He wanted to tell Izumi to stop, but his throat was dry; he couldn’t get the words out. Instead, he just sat in silence, feeling Izumi all but break down around him, too afraid to ask him to stop. Then, all at once, finally the great pressure on his wings lifted, and he heard the plates click around his invention.
Goro’s body remained limp for a moment as Izumi pushed them onto their feet, still shaken from the experience. “Please.. tell me you won’t have to go through that every time we become Nightmare, Izumi…” He muttered. At some point, when the locking mechanism was being forcibly recalibrated, Goro had pulled his wings shut, but, just as he’d hoped, the robot was able to reopen them without Goro’s input. He was far too tired to resist any motion Izumi made, just barely shifting his head back as the visor closed over his face.
Izumi seemed excited, but Goro couldn’t quite bring himself to feel the same. He just walked him over to the window, pulled it open as carefully as he could with their massive claws, and leaped out and into the open air in one bound.
With their combined weight, there was a doubt in his mind that they would even be capable of gliding, but all those fears dissipated the moment he gave their wings a single flap and felt the wind rise below them. Flying wasn’t at all new to him, but he still gave an uncharacteristic, triumphant twirl in the air to celebrate their combined form’s maiden voyage.
The moment they landed on the rooftops, he’d have to open up, and a pang of dread toward that still lingered in his mind, but for just that sweet second of airborne freedom, it was all but forgotten. “How is it, then?” He asked, a hint of pride managing to finally seep into his voice for the first time in what felt like weeks. “Flight, I mean. And, I suppose, just being able to feel wings on your back to begin with. What do you think?”

The robot squeezed one final time around Goro, moving them in a cocky pose. "It feels great." He replied, wagging his tail in slow arcs above the ground and spreading his new wings wide open. "Totally worth the pain. I...I feel powerful." He stated.
It was more than a feeling. Goro was physically heavier after donning Yusaku, yet not slowed down. Every little twitch and tension transferred right into the robot and vice versa. Yusaku's untapped power was all there, free for the taking. The two were that close to linking together like during their first time. There had been a moment in their battle with the thugs where Goro and Yusaku stopped being themselves and started acting as a single entity.
"Plus, now we're truly connected. Next time we become Nightmare we won't need to go through that again. What about you?" He asked, stopping by a mirrored window to admire their shared form. "Don't you feel better this way? Stronger? Faster?" He kept his wings open in defiance and unfolded Goro's mask. "This is what trust and bonds give you. Without you this wouldn't be happening so you're not really useless. Quite the opposite and you know what? I don't regret doing this at all."
The robobat wrapped himself back around Goro's face, restoring Nightmare's true form in full. He even involuntarily shifted them back in a confident pose. "Storytelling can wait. For now let's just relax and have some fun. Don't you wanna try and see what can we do together? Close your eyes, take a deep breath and when you open em again try and see yourself as Nightmare. You are Nightmare. Just like last time."
One final time, Yusaku made sure to be correctly enhancing Goro so that he could benefit from his power indiscriminately, No filters or limitations this time. "Ehehe...so much power..." Yusaku mumbled. He really loved those wings he now had on his back, as Nightmare's digital eyes often glanced back as his two new appendages.

Despite himself, Goro found himself smiling at Izumi’s reply. Part of him had been afraid that the robot had been frightened away by the herculean task of integrating the wings, or that something would mess up mid-flight, so hearing him genuinely enjoying them was encouraging to say the least.
He’d more than adjusted to the basic sensation of his wings being pulled open and shut; it helped that he was already used to that force acting on his other limbs from the last time. The greater implications of those motions, however, he was still wrapping his head around. It wasn’t something he wished to dwell on for long, but it kept resurfacing in the back of his mind. That he’d really signed away the use of his Quirk to someone else, just to feel a little more powerful for an evening.
Even as Izumi continued to compliment him, it still didn’t quite reach him. What he was saying made sense, but Goro just couldn’t make himself believe it. So ingrained in him was the idea of his own lack of value, that he couldn’t comprehend a dissenting opinion.
Either way, despite that, he didn’t feel nearly as bad as he had in the hotel room. He already felt freer, more awake, less burdened by his own mind. He breathed in, trying to ignore the helmet stifling the passage of air, and then out, putting the sensation of the hot air running against his face out of his mind. In, out. In, out.
It took a shockingly small number of breaths before the padding around him seemed to melt away, replaced once more by the breeze against his skin. He knew he could only fly for so long, but he supposed he might as well get another trip in before retreating to the rooftops once more. One last breath, then he plunged from the building, letting Izumi guide his movements as much as he controlled them himself.

Well, Goro sure was loving it. That was nice. At the very least, Yusaku had managed to take his friend's mind off his own problems for a little while. As soon as that happened, the robot felt like he was back in the "zone". Just like their first time. The robot wasn't quite sure where his movements ended and Goro's began. It was a good thing. The only other pilot that had managed that kind of link was his girlfriend Yumi. Sure, JackRabbit was infinitely more powerful than Nightmare right now, but the bat boy didn't need to know that.
Flying was odd at first, but Yusaku got used to it rather quickly. After Goro had his adrenaline surge for the prior leap subsided, the robot decided it was time for phase 2 of his plan. He was allowing Goro to wear him for a reason. Finally, he would get answers. Upon landing on the first available rooftop, Nightmare's bulky form melted away as Yusaku walked his partner down the roof to sit at the edge. Replacing it, a much more streamlined version of their alter ego and an insane spike in power compared to what the bat boy was used to.
The much more sleek version of Nightmare, eased off Goro's body just a little. The robot was still wrapped skin tight around Goro, but the feeling of weight on the bat boy's shoulder completely subsudided. Yusaku had got his fair share of upgrades since their first time together, so he guessed it would be as good of a moment to unveil them now.
"So...how about you start from the beginning." Yusaku softly chimed through his internal headphones. Goro could feel the robot's curiosity. It was like his own body needed to know what he already knew. That, and he could feel his hand moving up to gently pet his wings again. "I hope new me is much more comfy to wear. I thought you'd like a little surprise, plus I wanted to ease you into all the power we shared. You know, so that you don't go around casually snapping around streetlamps or anything."
As a cheeky little thing, Yusaku interrupted his haptic connection with Goro. It was a easy trick he used alot of times with Miyu. When you can't feel the world outside (or at the very least feel it muffled), there are no distractions. Yet, you could still very much feel the robot's presence all around...or so he had been told. Either way, Yusaku wanted his pilot to be completely focused on him. Tonight was the night he finally got his answers. Tonight was the night he would finally figure out how to actually help him out of the hellhole he was in.

Nightmare twisted in the air, revelling in their new experience. Their wings fluttered out behind them, waiting until the last second of them dipping in the air to flap once more. There was none of Goro’s usual doubt, only complete confidence in their shared form’s first flight. The sheer adrenaline, the power they could feel behind every muscle, every movement they made, had all but melted the bat’s neuroses away.
After they landed, that state lasted but for a moment before Izumi’s voice broke it. In silence, they could effortlessly coordinate movement and thought, but the moment one of them spoke Goro just couldn’t hold onto that mindset. Any reminder of the person present inside the robot was enough to kill any illusion he had of his control in this situation.
Still, his body was adjusted to feeling the world through Izumi, the external plating all but an afterthought, so when something shifted outside, it felt extremely jarring. The plating he’d imagined falling away was now actually doing it, and every step they took felt as if it had way more force behind it. A little voice in the back of his mind reminded him of Nightmare’s maiden voyage; how easily their enemies fell then, and how easier it would be now if this force was real.
Izumi sat them both down at the edge of the building, and loosened his grip around Goro’s body just a bit. It was just enough to make Goro wonder what exactly the boy was up to, but that question wouldn’t last for long. Not a minute later, the haptic feedback letting Goro feel the rooftop below them and the wind blowing against their body, faded, leaving his sense of touch in the dark. Of course, he could still hear the world around him, still see through Izumi’s visor, but the loss of a sense was still disorientating all the same.
If he was trying to get Goro’s attention, he surely had better ways. Was this a threat? A reminder of how much power Izumi had over him at that moment? If it was, it was certainly working. With how anxious he’d been already, it wasn’t hard to push him back over the edge. His expression didn’t change much, just a slight frown, but Izumi would be able to feel his pace quicken.
After Yusaku was done talking, Goro stayed silent for a while. “Start from the beginning”? What did Izumi mean by that? Was he asking for Goro’s entire life story or something else? Or did he just expect Goro to pick a starting point on his own?
It took at least a full minute for Goro to gather his thoughts, but eventually he spoke up, just loud enough that Izumi’s internal microphone could pick him up. “I am an orphan.” He began. “I do not know or remember what happened to my father, but I remember that my birth mother abandoned me when I was young. For a time, I stayed in an orphanage, but I do not remember much of my time there either.”
“Only a few years later, I was-they-I…” It was a struggle just to get the words out. All his life he’d been trained not to speak of these things, he could almost feel Mother’s claws raking against his side. “I was adopted by the Gifted Underground, and taken to Britain.”
Another pause, as he desperately tried to ignore the sweat pooling on his back and the way it made his fur stick to the pilot suit. “They aren’t a mafia, or whatever you’re thinking. You may think of us as terrorists, but it’s the only option we have to spread our message. The Quirkless have spent decades oppressing and abusing us, so it’s more than time for us to finally take over. That’s what we believe.”

Yes yes yes yes yes! That was exactly what Yusaku wanted. Finally, after so long. He finally had concrete answers. YES! man that was gold. The Gifted Underground. Now that was a spicy name for an organization. Oh man, the things...the things he could find now. That was exactly what ne needed.
Goro could feel his body's exitement, with Yusaku as the epicenter. The robot squeezed once around the bat boy, pratically begging him to continue. "He who desires but acts not breeds pestilence. So it is said." Yusaku mumbled, his mind already racing to find anything that he had seen that could give him more stuff on the GU of Britain. "But you know, I'm pretty sure by know you know there's always another way. A different side of things. Light to the dark and yang to ying. I told you a miriad of times no? Even though I'm a hero, I enjoy being Nightmare, being...bad so to say. Kinda sorta same ordeal on the whole message thing. You chose to use violence. Now, that didn't help you now, did it help you then? The more you push, the more the people will resist you. You can't force progress. You can slowly make it happen though."
Yusaku paused for a moment. He could feel Goro's heartbeat go up. Probably it was cause he isolated him. Usually it relaxed people but he seemed way more calm the other way around. As such, Yusaku reconnected himself with Goro's pilot suit to allow his friend to feel again.

Was Izumi quoting something at him? If so, its meaning was all but lost on Goro. It almost felt like he was mocking him, laughing at him for not getting it, but even if that was the case all Goro could do was put it out of his mind and keep going. After all, he was literally trapped inside him, he couldn’t escape. Overall, though, it just didn’t seem like Izumi, to be so overtly cruel to him. He’d just have to brush it off.
He laughed in response to Izumi’s argument, but there wasn’t much humour in it. “If you think that’d work, be my guest, by all means. But our methods have had success.” Not as much as he’d want to admit, but he’d seen enough talk in the villain chatroom to know they’d had some impact. “We aren’t aiming to convince the quirkless, only other Quirkers.”
They weren’t out here to argue, though, so he left it there. They were out here for one reason, and no matter how much he struggled to, Goro had no choice but to see it through.
At the very least, he could feel the outside world again, so he didn’t feel so claustrophobic. Not that it made him feel any less trapped.
“Throughout my childhood, the Underground made sure I was aware of all the injustices that the quirkless put Quirkers through. All the bloodshed, all the suffering, all the oppression.” Images they’d shown him flashed through his head. Pictures of mutants, mutilated in horrific attempts to ‘normalize’ them. He closed his eyes, and waited until they went away.
“They’d adopted me, and many other children, to raise us into the perfect soldier. To fight the quirkless, and win.” Goro’s heartbeat, which had calmed when the haptic feedback had returned, sped up again. He scowled as he continued. “They… Mother didn’t think it worth raising any of us who would prove too weak for that purpose. So, we had to be culled.”
His heartbeat felt like a hammer, being slammed against his ears over and over again. The inside of his mouth felt like sandpaper. And yet, his voice only just barely faltered. “It was kill or be killed, and… And I failed.” An old pain crept back over his body, reminding him of wounds long since gone. “Nick, he, he was the victor. By all rights, I should’ve died.”
“And yet, I lived. Even though I was, obviously, far too weak to be of any use to them as a fighter, it was also too much effort for them to put me out of my misery. So, they raised me to become a scientist instead, to develop Quirk-based weaponry. Nick wasn’t allowed to know of my survival, so that he wouldn’t try to finish the job.”

Goro would be able to feel his tail slowing to a stop as he kept telling his story. He would feel Izumi tightening his hold on him as their combined form, the powerful Nightmare, instinctively cuddled his legs close to his chest and wrapped himself with his newly acquired wings.
It was happening again, even for just a moment, through their common grief Yusaku was sharing his possessive and protective feeligs towards Goro, as they blended into the mutant's own fear for survival.
"...alright well...I think it's enough." Yusaku mumbled after he had snapped out of his Goro induced daze. "It's my turn anyway." It really wasn't, but for some reason Yusaku felt like he needed to reciprocate one of Goro's absolute truths with one of his own.
"You know...I think you already kinda guessed, but I never actually told you...I never told anyone really... what part of my body actually is experimental military tech. It aint my armor or servos nor my hud and neural network software, those are common things from the 2020s." Yusaku sighed.
"DNI. This armored body has the very first Direct Neural Interface prototype. For how rudimentary it might be from the DNIs of science fiction it's still a DNI. You know what that means right? That day we fought together and we moved around as if we were a single entity...well...that's cause it was the first time I was able to activate it. So every moment we...you know...were able to feel eachother's emotions and all that...the DNI is responsible for it all."
Yusaku queted down for a moment. He wondered if Goro believed him. "It was hidden and locked. My software was unable to detect it until we snapped that guy's legs like twigs. That moment of super strong fight or flight response from me must have engaged some emergency protocol and bypassed the lock. For as long as we were under threat of being found out and or shot, this protocol would bypass my programming and allowing us to access the DNI functionality to increase our odds of survival.
In the end, this armor I am inhabiting was designed to keep quirkless police alive in a villain encounter."
Another pause.
"I've been knowing of its existance since then. I probably can unlock it manually now that I know about it. Upside to an active DNI? Well...it'd be like that night but times ten. I'm talking about my mind inside yours, instant response time. Instant reflexes, combined knowledge, perfect mobility. Thoughts, memories. All of it. It's literally a mind merge. I don't even have to tell you this stuff is dangerous though...right?
A human brain might go into shock if unable to handle two sets of emotions, memories and personalities. There could be side effects after separation too like schitzophrenia or paranoia. Even if merging were possible, well...the 'we' becomes an 'I', meaning that if that 'I' decides he wants to kill people I can't stop it...cause that would be what I want to do too. I would basically surrender my entire existance to you. I...I'm not sure I feel prepared and confident enough to do that."
