Yumi had been making sure she put in the effort leading up to the sports festival. She relied a lot on her quirk, but she knew she couldn’t if push came to shove. No matter how hard she trained, she always had the last drawback that if she used her final burst tactic, she’d be out of power for a short while and would have to rely on the limits of any other human being. Not only that, but like any other bodily function, her quirk heavily relied on how physically fit she was herself. In turn that meant that the more she worked out and pushed the limits of her physical form, the further she could push her quirk and…well. Not vice versa, she didn’t get the ability to get more muscles by pushing her electrical output, but it was still something she needed to do.
Ever since she’d joined the school she’d realized this to some extent. She knew that her body only looked slim because of her quirk burning a lot of her food as fuel, but she’d never actually been fit. Any tightness in her muscles wasn’t enough to be displayed beyond the more healthy layer of fat she always held, and a light jog could wind her back then. Damn even thinking about it now was borderline embaressing to the point of buckling her knees a little.
But no, that was in the past. It was a weakness she knew of herself even from so long ago, and as such she’d made a constant effort to improve. Ever since Darren had pointed out how her work was starting to show she’d been a lot more aware of the changes to her body. What had once just been her smooth stomache now was close to being called ‘abs’, or at the very least could be described as more firm than it used to be. Her calves were tight to the touch and she had a bit of definition even in her shoulders from how she’d been progressing. Even with all that though, that had come from months and months of work, and all of it, while progressively getting harder, was relatively casual compared to some of her classmates.
With the festival coming up, she needed to kick it up a notch and had started heading to the gym. With her paranoia gone from the semper Fi event, and her confidence boosted by Darren after they made up from her mistake, she wanted to put her best foot forward at the festival and display herself in all her glory. She didn’t expect to hit the top scores in any of the segments she’d applied for, but she still wanted to present herself to the best of her abilities! The gym had taken some getting used to. It was a lot different to use the weight equipment or even the treadmill compared to the weights she had in her dorm or the exercise she put in when going for her morning jogs, but it was an adjustment worth making as even after just the first week she could feel a difference in how tense her muscles felt after each workout.
As such, she was going for another workout even during the festival. It was a weird sensation, seeing the gym of all places at a hero school being barren and devoid of activity. There’d been a handful of other people around when she started but each got pulled away after what seemed to be an odd text here or there, to the point Yumi was left with only one other person that she vaguely recognized. She was a little nervous to approach them, weirdly more cautious than she would be approaching a stranger. She could hi to a stranger easy, if she guessed this guys name and got it wrong…well now that was actually embaressing.
She’d spotted him on the treadmill for a short while when she finally decided to join him. Dressed in spats and a sports bra, she hopped onto the machine next to his and started into a light jog, noticing he seemed rather ‘in the zone’ and likely didn’t notice her at first, but once she’d gotten a nice pace going and could trust herself to hold a conversation without tripping over her own feet, she called out to him.
“Heeeey. Ryuusei right…?” She waved a little cautiously, hoping she didn’t get the name wrong, especially as she started to realize why she recognized him. “From the football game right?” She knew she could still be wrong, but it was better to try and make contact, especially if she did have his name right. Darren mentioned Ryuusei a fair bit in passing so she assumed they were good friends, and any friend of Darren’s would be good to make a friend of her own.

Dreams breathe life into men. The stars... I'll reach them.
He didn't care that much, so why was he training? Since the operation - a consequence of having his insides turned to scramble eggs after putting too much effort into his body and the fight with Nick acting as a trigger for the inevitable explosion - Ryuusei had spent almost two months at home. Lying down, sleeping, pain killers. A pretty miserable time that he had managed to hide pretty well, even from his closest friends. During that period the teenager lost some weight, naturally - if before he weighed in at slightly more than 70 kilos, he was now at a little above 65. It was a small drop, barely noticeable in his body, but Ryuu still hated, for some reason. He compared it to videogames, as he usually saw the world: it was like grinding EXP just to then lose the save, meaning that the process had to be repeated all over again. For some as lazy and uninsterested as Ryuu that sucked, but thankfully he was a perfectionist when it came to things he set his mind up to. First it was soft work with his father at their private dojo. Light aerobics and yoga to get the body back to the flow of things. Then, when Ryuu was ready, some light grappling exercises in order for the boy to keep on incorporating jiu-jitsu into his Maneki Neko style of fighting. Only then was it time for small weights, meant to keep the tonification and core strenght of Ryuusei's developing teenage body. But all of that were at home. Now, at Yuuei, Ryuusei Igarashi was hitting the gym everyday. However, while others were most likely doing it in preparation for the Sports Festival, Ryuu wasn't the same: he couldn't care less about the results he produced in that fake spectacle. He was training for himself, for his dreams only. Doing it for him and not for others to see. In any other way he would never have the motivation to be going there. He started with the bycicle, going on a steady increasing rhythm. Then he went for leg drills and then to back ones. He was feeling good, noticing that his body was brand as new and fully recovered. Then it was time for some abdominal work, meant to fortify the area of the scar and keep the definition of his muscles. After that, he went to the sauna. In the hot room, he did what he had already been doing the other days: sparring alone, punching and kicking the wind while in a temperature of an extremely hot desert. When he got out, he was obviusly drenched in sweat, his pale white skin shining under the gym's lights. His white tanktop was almost gray due to the amount of water and his lean arms were showing, with the small and scattered burn marks of the right one visible. His shorts were black - same as his shoes and socks - which had proven to be a good decision, since any other color would have made his underwear isible due to the sweat. The gym was now basically empty, but he still had one thing left to do. His blonde hair making it look like he had come out of a shower, Ryuusei made his way to one of the treadmills for an all-out final run. He started strong right way, beginning to increase the spped until it reached the max in intervals of 3 minutes. It was then that a female hand appeared in front of him. And then he heard a voice. He looked to the side while going at full-speed. O-oh, yeah - he was gasping in the middle of every other - W-Wait just a... Just a sec...
He refocused his attention to the monitor of the treadmill, decreasing the speed to a little under the one the girl that had talked to him was on. That way he would be able to have a regular conversation in the middle of the workout. He looked again at the girl while he kept running. Yeah, and you're Yumi, isn't it? now in a more steady rhythm, Ryuu's characteristic cold and more mature and graspy voice was more evident. The girl that initiated the interaction was Yumi.... Yumi something, Ryuusei did not know her last name. But she knew her from the football match - like she herself mentioned - and from Darren sometimes talking about her. She had long red hair, amber eyes and was, in Ryuu's opinion, beautiful. If he wasn't mistaken, this was the first time that they were actually having a conversation. In his efforts of slowing things down and trying to be a regular teen, Ryuusei tried to follow Yoruhi's constant advice for him to express himself more and to not be afraid of interacting with others. He continued to speak, trying to make conversation. Training for the Festival? he asked. What a dumb question, he thought. Of course she was probably there in preparation for the Festival. He was the only crazy self-proclaimed lazy person that actually went to the gym as a way of focusing on himself.... Right? Yeah, most likely. Anyhow, that would probably get the conversation going. While Yumi was oblivious to the compliment the boy before her had just given her in his head, she did at least get a nice warm feeling from the mere fact he seemed willing to talk. Turning her treadmill down just another few notches, she turned to her side to better address him, doing side-skips along the length of the treadmill for a few moments, trusting herself enough not to trip over her own two feet and meeting Ryuusei more directly with a bright smile as she tried her best to hold a conversation with him.
“Yumi is righto!~” She smirked, sticking her tongue out with a playful smirk for a moment. A light stumble of her feet however made he realize that while she could definitely do side hops on a treadmill safely, she couldn’t do that while talking and swiftly switched to jogging forward, though at a moderate pace still so she didn’t get too out of breath while talking, shooting Ryuu a bright if somewhat sheepish smile after her small accidental trip.
For a brief moment she took in his appearance much like he had hers. Yumi’s mind didn’t really grasp ‘beauty’ so easily…it was odd. Like, she could tell someone looked nice, which she could easily say Ryuusei did, but being ‘enthralled’ by someone’s looks was never really something she succumbed to. What she could notice however was this boy was drenched. Whether in his own sweat or something else wasn’t so easy to tell, but it did bring an ever so brief giggle to her lips as she wondered how hard he must be pushing himself to completely drench his clothes to that extent, never once did it even occur to her that he may have just used the sauna with his clothes on.
With the question she gave a bit of a cheeky smirk, what with her own observations, and simply dipped her head over his own body, gesturing to it given her hands were busy helping her keep a good form with her jogging. “Yeah, and something tells me you are too huh?~” Her cheeky grin just got a fraction or two wider and cheekier to boot with a little giggle filled cherry on top of it, shaking her head out and not meaning to tease him too much as she continued. “Seriously though, you must be working hard. Pretty sure I can almost hear your shirt begging for mercy there.” Okay maybe she wasn’t ENTIRELY done with her teasing but at the very least she felt assured that was funny enough to pass.
“You usually come here when it’s so empty?” She asked, a little curious given it lined up with her own habit for the day. “I don’t usually come here period, but ya know, I figured, what with the sports festival I may as well give it a go eh? And what better time to learn how all the equipment works when there’s no one around to laugh at ya?” She shrugged her shoulders with a light smile as she shot her gaze back to her new running buddy for the past few moments. “How about you? Come here often yourself? I mean I assume so what with you being on the sports team right?”

Dreams breathe life into men. The stars... I'll reach them.
Good, I got the name right, Ryuusei immediately thought as Yumi confirmed to him that he was, in fact, correct. It would be embarassing if he had called her a name that belonged to someone else. People usually find that rude, didn't they? Talking was really just a thing that Ryuu started to do since entering U.A. Highschool, so he was still trying to grasp the concept of it and navigating the social queues that others gave him. He was getting better and better with it - thank God for Yoruhi and Darren being such playful dorks and for Rinkusu for having the patience of an angel - but there was always a lingering doubt in his head that made him cautious of others not liking him or saying something hurtful. But why was he thinking so damn hard about such a small detail? He got it right and, by her expression, Yumi seemed to be a nice person. Yeah, he could relax. "Relax" - he could Yoruhi screaming the words on his head. Besides the initial impression of being nice, she also appeared to be carefree. Her light stumble on the treadmill only made her give out a little smile out to Ryuu, something that the boy reacted to by letting out a very small and contained laugh - everyone knows how funny near-falls are, especially when that one that almost fell didn't take it seriously. Contrary to Yumi, Ryuu's arms weren't supporting his body on the treadmill's handles. His body straight, he was running just like he was in the streets of Tokyo or in an outside track, the velocity of the machine also being slightly higher than the one from the girl besides him. Despite this, Ryuusei kept looking sideaways at Yumi to keep the conversation going. Looking at her eyes - that were, in colour, identical to his - he took notice of Yumi looking at his body after he posed her the question about the Festival. Not looking for much meaning in the action of Darren's friend, Ryuusei simply looked at his own self in response. It was while doing so that Yumi replied. Her giggle at the end made Ryuusei confused. He was looking at his shirt, at his shorts and at his moving feet, but... Couldn't understand? The expression of slight confusion on his usual emotionless face must've been almost hilarious. It was only when she finished her teasing that Ryuusei took notice. Oh, he let out loud. Right. The ridiculous drops of sweat running down his hair and hitting the treadmill's floor aswell as the shirt that looked a different color and was basically glued to his torso due to how wet it was really made it look like Ryuusei was training for some type of war. Y-Yeah, it prob-
Before finishing, it was his time to stumble. Got too distracted, probably. It was a harder stumble than Yumi's, making Ryuusei go almost to the end of the treadmill and having to sprint to the front in order to not fall off. Once he reached the panel, he slowed the speed down and grabbed the ledge with his right hand. Now more stable, he looked at Yumi while leting his left hand run through his wet blonde hair. It probably didn't deserve such heavy torture, he finished with a slight smile, the "it" being the "shirt", obviously. WIth his left arm now also on the machine's designated place for it, Ryuusei kept light jogging while looking Yumi, hearing her talk. Her way of speaking was interesting, making Ryuusei wonder from which area of Japan was the girl. After she finished speaking, Ryuusei would reply while always maintaining eye contact with her. Nah, not really. Believe it or not I'm not the most active person out here - he pointed at his shirt for the next sentence - The shirt is screaming for help because it's not used to this type of effort, he joked back with Yumi's previous teasing. Ryuusei's voice was now completly stable and his words could be 100% understood. The constant breathing exercises he did due to his Quirk served for something more than God's Alibi by the looks of it. Ryuu continued, hands back on the treadmill. I just joined the Sports Club because I came too close at beating Darren during a spar and his ego demanded him to drag me into something that he is way better than me at, if we're being honest, Ryuusei said jokingly (despite not being able to escape his cold voice). It was a slight exaggeration of what really happened and, by the way he said it, Yumi would clearly understand this. Nevertheless, it was how Ryuusei teased Darren when the subject came up in conversation. So yeah, I'm not usually here at the gym. Like you said: there's normally too many people around and I don't really enjoy that. But it's been awhile since I worket out, so I've been feeling the need of getting back into shape. Just happens that everyone is at the Festival right now - he paused for a bit in order to readjust his steps and then finished, his face turned towards Yumi - To what event did you sign-up to?A normal question that kept the subject of the festival going on, but Ryuusei felt that it was appropriate. Afterall, they were now getting to meet each other and hearing what event Yumi had chosen would probably give him some insight about her and about how she thought... Right? (won’t address it in post but just to be clear, yumi is supporting her running with the swinging arm motions that come with it, sorry for not making that clear. (just also don’t want to give the impression she needs the supports for some reason XD))
Yumi was easily the type to laugh at herself, at least when she wasn’t in paranoid mode, and since Semper Fi her defences against falling back into that mood had been risen significantly. It was like facing a cold. Sure, it felt like hell while you were going through it, but you tended to face the next cold with a stronger defence. It could weaken and it could wear over time, and eventually, bam, even Yumi was aware the depression could strike again, but for now she was living life with a smile and confidence, and of course, the ability to laugh at herself. Speaking of which, she was certainly glad it had gotten her impromptu running buddy laughing too, shooting him a bright smile as she started to jog more normally while they continued to chitter chatter.
Heck to be honest Yumi would have even just laughed it off if Ryuu had ‘rudely’ gotten the wrong name for her. Yumi could be immensely poor in remembering people’s names herself so someone getting hers wrong wasn’t so bad. Heck she even had a habbit of trapping herself into nicknames if her run in with the fluffiest little boy in support studies had anything to say about it. Oi vey, she really needed to ween him off the habit of calling her ‘Yummy’. She’d only suggested it as a joke, and it did make her smile, but she worried he was only doing it because she’d given the wrong impression that she preferred it…which she KINDA did, cause it was funny and made her smile but-
Okay. Overthinking for later. Back to the present where you’re running on a rubber strip that could sheer your skin off if you fall. Yeah. Best to focus on that. Oh. And the conversation you’re trying to have with it.
She saw him look a bit confused for a moment, but was glad to quickly realize he was the kind to laugh at himself a little too once he caught on. Heck he could even be witty about it too. Seemed that Darren knew how to pick his friends well. She did dart over a little on instinct when he tripped, yelping and nearly tripping herself too in an attempt to catch him, the two of them likely having a nice giggle at their own expenses, though much like her running partner Yumi now kept at least one hand on the treadmill to make sure that didn’t happen again. Sure that last one was definitely her own fault, but best to make sure it doesn’t happen again yeah?
“Aw poor shirt.” Yumi chimed in with a cheeky smile of her own, giggling a little. “Best toughen it up though. I mean if it can’t handle your normal exercise imagine what it would be like with your quirk.” She said, having no idea what his quirk may be like in the end. Though, it did lead her to joke about her own.
“My clothes used to hate me before I got control of my quirk. In the movies they always tend to gloss over how the fire guy or the electro girl don’t scorch through their own clothes. Me? Not so lucky. All my clothes that weren’t made special used to get fried whenever I used my quirk. Thankfully they can all sleep in peace. Now I only scorch them if I want to be dramatic~” She held her nose up as if almost having pride in the fact she could go through half a wardrobe a year on harsh electrical burns alone.
As the conversation shifted to the sports club and Darren, Yumi couldn’t help but snort a little, relating a little too hard to that vibe and giggling away as she recalled how it had been similar for joining the football team. “Ah tell me about it. I mean I love it about him, but I offered to help him train when I spotted him on the field. Next thing I knew he was treating me like I already signed up? I mean don’t get me wrong I had fun, and I would have joined anyway, but he can really get ahead of himself. And like, not in the rapey way of course, but ‘no’ isn’t really part of his vocabulary is it? Like I could never see him taking a no well in the face of something he’s excited for…like he’d take it well ENOUGH just not…’well’, ya know?”
Probably not, she had gone a bit into mindless babbling towards the end of that there. Ehehe…
At the question of what event she was doing, she answered. “Oh I signed up for the tournament for starters. I always wanted to be more of a rescue hero but my quirk just isn’t built for that, so I wanna show the pros I might be working for in the future what I’m made of. Plus…I know it’s gonna be tough, but I definitely think it’ll help my confidence.”
She continued. “Mainly though, I’m in it for the obstacle course. I recently figured out how to fly using my quirk so I’m totally gonna knock that one out of the perk, plus Darren’s been helping me with this new agile form of movement! It should go really well. How about yourself?”

Dreams breathe life into men. The stars... I'll reach them.
Yumi was good enough of a person that tried to help Ryuu when he himself stumbled, something that got a small laugh out of the both of them. It looked like she was the type of person who liked to banter, much like Darren. As he listened to her talk about the difiiculties of managing clothing items with the details of one's Quirk - and saw the playful face she pulled at the end of it - Ryuusei could understand why she and Darren got along. Apparently, her Quirk had something to do with either fire or electricity. Pretty sweet Quirk to have, Ryuusei thought. However, even with his 'power' being completly different, Ryuu could very well understand of clothes being a real problem - unlike the movies, like Yumi mentioned. In Ryuusei's case, there was a point where he had to touch every piece of clothing he was wearing in order to make it invisible along with his body, which very... not pratical, to say the least. Thankfully that wasn't a problem anymore. It was with his previous experience in mind that he replied to the red-haired girl. Well, not so long ago it was way more pratical for me to use my Quirk on myself while almost naked, so I get the feeling pretty well, he said while remembering about how during the events at Semper Fi he infiltrated the trailers while only with boxers on and a knife on his hand, the contrast between his voice and what he said being, at the minimum, pretty funny. It also made him crack an unusual smile when he heard that Yumi had a similiar experience with Darren. Unlike her, he probably wouldn't have joined any club, but knowing that Darren made it a priority to drag every friend he had into the things he enjoyed to do made Ryuusei think highly of him... no matter how odd and sometimes agressive his method could prove to be. The rambling of words Yumi got herself into by trying to explain herself was also something that Ryuu could find humor in: afterall, it was something that someone like himself easily did at times. Yeah, I know, I know, he simply said, conveying that he understood what the girl was trying to say. Answering to his question about the Festival, Yumi answered with a good amount of detail. She liked to talk, it seemed. Ryuusei couldn't share the same sentiment, but perhaps it was someone like her that he needed to start to learn how to speak longer than one sentence. She was joining the battle torunament in order to test herself, but also also joined the Obstacle Course to test her new capacities of flying and quick movement. She must be pretty cool, Ryuusei thought as he heard her. Afterall, a Quirk of either fire or eletricity that allowed her to fly and fight was basically a jackpot. Nodding and looking at her while she talked - in order for Yumi to not feel like she wasn't communicating with a wall - Ryuusei listened carefully to her. He wasn't good at talking, but people usually said that he made that up by being a good listener. After she concluded, he began speaking. I'm sure you'll do amazing in both - he initially said, keeping his light jogging pace - I'll try to be in the stands during the tournament to cheer you on, even if I'm not able to do the same for the Obstacle Event, the reason for that Ryuusei would explain right away. I'm in the Rescue one. I think it's at the same time, but I'll be giving you moral support - he added - I don't think I'll do that well since I'll basically be Quirkless out there, so one of us has to do great.Always downplaying himself, like usual. But, at the same time, thinking that, if he was to follow Yoruhi's advice and try to be more extroverted, he might aswell do something that he would never do. He decided to demonstrate what he was actually talking about. He was already holding the treadmill, so he really just had to "lock it" in his mind. Doing so, he held his breath, turning the machine completly invisible and making it look like Ryuusei was floating. After 5 or 10 seconds, Ryuu started to breathe again and the treadmill turned visible once more. It was then, and after a long inhale of needed air, that Ryuusei finished. Turning people invisible doesn't exactly help them in a rescue operation, right? he said, a shy smile of his lips. Notes: Quirk demosntration!.Words: 770.Tags: Yumi Tasukai

Yumi couldn’t help but snicker for a moment as the boy beside her described having a quirk that was best used almost naked. For a moment she could think of questions as to what his quirk was but easily invisibility came to mind, or some form of camouflage at the very least. Other possibilities flittered in too, like quirks that required your skin to breathe like that odd woman from the metal gear games, or perhaps one that worked with expanding limbs? Would be pretty awkward trying to extend your arm in a punch but not being able to cause it got caught in a tight sleeve? No that didn’t really make sense. Easily invisibility was the main contendor, but whatever it was it was still a little funny to picture him in his boxers.
“I’m not so sure about being better naked since I got my power suit to help me handle it, buuuut that would definitely act as a good distraction tactic don’t you think?~” She snickered a little before continuing. “I mean picture it like a cartoon, distracting the bad guys so they get close then ZAPPO! I mean I’d never do it but it’s a little funny to think about don’t ya think?” Of course even with Yumi’s liberated sense of how she viewed her own body and those viewing it, even she wasn’t so crazy as to be some weird naked electro hero lady. Least of all when she could probably get sued for that alone. Heck even her current costume was kiiinda pushing the limits, albeit just a little.
She thought for a moment on asking about his quirk but felt she’d get the details in a moment. If she didn’t she’d be a bit too awkward to ask for it after the opportune moment to strike had passed, so she’d probably just ask Darren about it when she next caught him during a free period.
Yumi gave a bit of a nervous chuckle after her bumbled words, always finding it was a little too easy for her to get on a roll, difficult to stay on target, and nearly impossible to make herself stop, but most of the people around her seemed to understand at least. Sure you needed confidence and speaking skills as a hero, most of the time at least, but they were all still awkward teens. It was just commonplace for them all to trip over their own feet or catch their tongues on awkward conversations. She just shared a light chuckle at her awkwardness and moved on with a little.
“Aw thanks.~” She chimed in at his encouragement after her little ramble, though this time she didn’t recognize it as one so easily given she didn’t stutter over her words or anything. Maybe she was a bit of a chatterbox but someone would kinda have to point that out to her at this point for her to even start to realize, and even then, can’t say it was a negative so long as she didn’t go overboard. Probably a good quality for a hero like her to have in the future. Bright, peppy, chatty!~
“Oh yeah! I noticed we couldn’t sign up for more than one so maybe on the time thing? But yeah same to you! I havn’t asked what Darren’s going for but I’m gonna bet he wants to fight the students from other schools no doubt yeah?” She smirked, knowing Darren’s skills lended him to the obstacle course, literally able to move himself sharply in any direction he wanted, but his sense of pride and determination lead to him battling against the other schools more directly most likely. She did hear about the quirkless aspect though, quirking her brow and wondering if she’d finally hear about his quirk.
Seems she got a direct demonstration instead and Yumi jolted a little (thankfully not trippijng this time) as it registered it definitely was invisibility, not only that but he could make other things invisible, and Yumi had to actually scoff in disbelief at the use of that in a rescue situation.
“Are you kidding me that’s amazing!?” With how down she made herself about her own quirk sometimes, Yumi spent a lot of time thinking about the potential of others in situations she wished she could excel at, like rescue to say the least. She stopped her treadmill entirely to talk more persistently, draping herself over the handlebar of her own treadmill tot alk. “Okay think about it, one of the most risky things in rescue can be finding a person and getting them out safely, pretty much the whole job really. You have the power to make rubble invisible and look through it. Not only will you be able to find people easier, but you can see everything else in the way! You’re like a walking hazard detector like that! Not only that, but if a villain is on the scene, you can make yourself and other civilians invisible to get them out of their more safely! How is that NOT awesome for rescue!?~”

Dreams breathe life into men. The stars... I'll reach them.
By the choice of the word "ZAPPO!" to describe the sound her Quirk would make when used on a villain, Ryuusei threw away the possibility of Yumi having a fire Quirk to confirm the one of her having an electricity one. And, by Yumi's description, it looked like her Quirk consisted on being able to produce electric currents from her body. Nice - he thought once again - Dangerous, but nice, he concluded his simplistic assessment of Yumi's Quirk. As for the rest of her rambling, it made Ryuusei smile a little. In the comicbook world such tactic would indeed be hilarious for the reader, but in the real world the Hero Organization probably wouldn't approve of such method. Thankfully Yumi understood that. Yeah, kind of... Don't do it though, he ended up saying. As they were running and continuing to talk, Yumi thanked Ryuusei for his words of support towards her. She then proceeded to talk about Darren - their mutual friend and only connection until this meeting - while also wishing Ryuu good luck on the Rescue Event. Thanks - he simply said - And yes, Darren will join the Tournament for sure. There's too much bragging rights on the line for him to not sign up for it. But can you imagine his face if he lost in the first round before having the chance to fight Jaz, Rin or the stronger foreign students? I'd pay to see that.
It would be a funny vision, Ryuusei thought as he proposed such scenario to Yumi. Of course that, in such situation, Darren would just pressure Ryuusei into fighting him more in order to get better and better, which sucked for Ryuu... but, at the same time, he liked that about the blonde maniac: always pushing forward, even if pulled back some times. When talking about his own Quirk after the little demosntration, Ryuusei wasn't expecting such reaction and words from Yumi. Amazing? It really wasn't... But she even stopped her treadmill in order to stand still and rest her body in the machine's handleebar for the purpose of talking without the risk of falling. As she talked, Ryuusei kept on jogging - but with his face turned to Yumi. His golden eyes got wider as her words kept on going. She was... making a lot of sense. Saying things that Ryuusei never really realized about his power. Maybe he knew the real potential pof it, but chose to ignore it - aknowledging meant accepting the fact that he could really become a great Hero, a thing that he didn't really believe in. But having someone else telling him that so enthusiastically, it... felt good. He took his hands out of the handlebars and started looking at them. There were so many possibilities... Was he really willing to accept that? Beginning to stop his feet, he looked at Yumi. Thanks. Really. I nev-
Oh right: the treadmill was still on... and he had stopped moving. Before finishing his sentence, Ryuusei Igarashi got projected backwards, his sweaty back landing on the gym floor. The momentum made him roll, only stopping when Ryuusei reached a sitting down position facing the treadmill from which he had fallen and Yumi. His back hurt a little, but the immediate reaction was looking at his belly - location of his big scar. It looked solid, no blood or pain. Good, that meant that it had really fully healed. Withh both his hands on the ground in order to support his body, Ryuu let out a big laugh. It was genuine and unusual. He then talked to Yumi, completing what he was saying before falling. I never thought about it that way. Thanks, he smiled at her, despite not being able to run from his icey voice tone. Still sitting down - perhaps his body was unconsciously telling him that it was fully out of gas - he decided to ask something else to the red-haired female. I think that I'm done for the day... Do you want to go check out the Main Alley with me? I still haven't payed that much attention to it, might be fun.It came out naturally, but merely seconds after shutting up Ryuusei realized what he had just said. It didn't sound like a date, right? Oh... he mumbled only for himself to hear. This is why social interactions were awkward - you don't really pay attention to what you're saying and you end up asking someone you barely know to go somewhere with you. Ryuusei could only think of Yoru's face mocking him. The image of getting to hit Yoru's face with a plastic hammer was the only thing keeping Ryuu from not freaking out. After Semper Fi and his fight with Nick, Ryuusei had promised his parents that he would try to be more like a regular teenager. Whether he liked it or not, this whole situation was a perfect example of what it meant to be an introverted sixteen year old. Snickering at his warning not to do it, she simply rolled her eyes and kept jogging. Yeah she was open about her body but not THAT open. Besides she was pretty sure some of the first heroes had worn things so flashy that there’d been rules and regulatons put in place about their costumes to make sure they were ‘child friendly’, they were basically idols for a lot of them afterall and no one wanted to teach their nation’s kids it was okay to run around naked punching people…no you needed a silly costume and a license first. She snickered a little at the thought but mostly waved it off and kept jogging for now.
Yumi was glad the two of them had some common ground in seeing Darren from the outside. When she was infront of the ‘crazy blonde’ she had a weird sense of awe in regards to him with how confident and gung ho he could be about everything, but talking with a friend of his, viewing Darren from the outside? Yeah, with the best of respect, he could be a bit of a nut and Yumi was glad to at least use him as some common ground to find a new friend in Ryuu. She definitely still held Darren with the highest respect given their history as two of the longest standing students in their class, buuuuut…yeah. He could go a bit off the deep end sometimes.
“Yeah I mean, I’d never wish it on him, but he would be SO disappointed if he got knocked out before he faced any of them! You could see him coming into lesson with a pout and just kicking back in his desk. Heck he’d probably be so pouty he’d drag it even further to the back wall.”
Okay maybe she over-exagerated just a little there, but it was actually something she could totally see, again with respect but Darren could be such an expressive person when something rubbed him the wrong way that a borderline tantrum wasn’t entirely out of the cards for him. Yumi still loved him (as a friend) of course, it was just the sort of impression he’d left on her at this point.
Still that wasn’t all they had to talk about at least and Yumi was definitely eager to talk about their potentials for the festival. Yumi had been so into displaying what she thought Ryuu’s quirk could be good for that she’d realized in advance she definitely needed to turn off her treadmill to get it all off of her chest. Sadly however, it didn’t seem Ryuu had realized the same thing when he’d slowed down to address her in turn, the realizations of what his quirk could do setting in so hard he forgot he was meant to be running.
A hand clasped over her mouth, this time Ryuu leaving the treadmill in such a fashion that even her instincts didn’t reach out to grab him and instead just tried to restrain her shock, and soon, the urge to giggle. Seemed neither of them were really a strong hand, or foot, when it came to these machines, and as the boy started laughing Yumi couldn’t help but start laughing along with him, realizing how ridiculous that had just been no matter what angle ya looked at it from, and turning off her treadmill entirely as she hopped off and helped him to his feet, her giggles replaced by a warm smile as she steadied him up.
“You okay there champ?” She smiled brightly, making sure to hoist him to his feet. A little surprised she managed to pull it off really given how weak she was at the beginning of the year, but Darren’s comments a few weeks ago really had her noticing the difference even in the smallest of things, sharing a smile as she dusted Ryuu off a little and heard his offer to go check out the main alley with him, her eyes definitely perking up.
“Oh I’d love to. I mean-“ She looked over her vaguely sweaty self, and the drenched boy before her. “We should totally get showered and changed first, but it’d be great to have some downtime and get to know ya more. Meet me by the entrance?”
She’d assume all was good, not realizing Ryuu felt he may have asked her out and not worrying too much herself either way, considering it just a friendly time out and about the festival booths as they got to know eachother. The red head broke into a light skip and a hop to make her way towards her own changing rooms and showers, scooping her bag up from some of the other equipment as she did.
Assuming Ryuu didn’t stop her, Yumi would enjoy a quick but energizing shower that helped relax her muscles even after the short stint on the treadmill. She never really got why some people could spend half an hour in a shower. For her it was always get in, scrub up, rinse off, maybe enjoy the warmth for a handful of seconds, and get out. What you needed a full half an hour for every time was beyond her but she’d just shrug it off knowing someone was waiting for her. She got dressed in a warm hoodie and cargo pants given the weather, and with her gym gear slung over her shoulder in a bag, rest her back against one of the walls outside the gym facilities, eagerly awaiting her new buddy to see what they could get up to checking out the festival.
This was…definitely nice so far. Ryuu seemed like a chill dude and they both knew how to laugh at themselves which was always nice. She wondered for a moment how much Darren had spread about what the two had gotten up to the other day, but given how nervous he’d been about it…yeah, he didn’t exactly seem like he’d be a blather mouth to her, and she was pretty reassured as she waited that no nasty rumors would have spread.

You don't need a dream or even a tomorrow Just live
Yeah, totally, he replied as the girl helped him stand on both of his legs once more. It was then that she also answered Ryuusei's offer of going together to check out the Main Alley of the Sports Festival, telling Ryuu that she'd love to go after a shower and a change of clothing. A fair reason - going out there soaking wet in sweat and red from all the workout would probably be a bad idea. Sure, he simply said, agreeing with the proposal of meeting at the gym entrace when they were both ready. As Yumi made her way to the female lockeroom, Ryuusei first approached the treadmill he had fallen off from a minute or so ago. Turning it off, he then slowly walked in the direction of his own lockeroom. He was quick to undress, putting on some flip-flops, grabbing a towel and head to the showers. There, he set the water to a steaming hot temperature - just how he liked - and took around ten minutes to clean his hair and body. His muscles felt immediately more relaxed and, in Ryuusei's mind, he was good to go for another workout if someone asked him too. Not that he would like that, obviously - such thing would already be too much work. Ryuusei was also fairly quick to get dressed, since he had the habit of being on time for everything and disliking keeping other people waiting for him. First, he placed his necklace - the one that his sister used to wear - around his neck. It was a simple one, consisting of only a black necklace cord and a tiny black stone. Then, he put on his left earlobe earrings: they were three, all silver, two of them being simple small hoops and the other being also a small hoop, but with a dangling chain attached to it. As for clothing, he wore a large white t-shirt underneath his oversized black hoodie. His pants were slightly baggy and ripped on the knees area and, on his feet, he wore white sneakers with some black details. With his blonde hair loose - he hadn't brought any bandana that day - Ryuusei placed all of his stuff inside his black backpack that was nearly camping size, put said backpack on his shoulders and headed out. Stepping outside, Yumi was already there waiting. Ryuusei was hoping that she hadn't been there for too long. Giving her a small wave as he walked towards her ,he spoke. Yo - he said, just a small greeting for her to note that he had arrived - Ready to go? he asked. Notes: To the Main Alley!Words: 442.Tags: Yumi Tasukai

Yumi hadn’t been waiting long by the time her new buddy walked up on her, just toying with her phone with her bag slung across her torso, tending to prefer to carry a satchel even when what she was carrying didn’t really suit it. Like most people would slide papers of a folder int a satchel like the one she was wearing, Yumi had folded clothes and sneakers tucked into the dividing pockets of it. She lifted her eyes with the calling Yo and raised her own hand to make sure he knew she’d seen him, starting to walk with him as he came over rather than letting him stop to check in with her, sliding her phone into a zipper pocket of her satchel and nodding along with a smile.
“Yeah I’m all good!” She chimed happily. “I was just checking in with the UA chat to see if there’s any good suggestions on where to check out first, but I didn’t get any clear answers.” She gave a lightly nervous chuckle before continuing to walk with him. “Usually I just go where the wind takes me but I’m not so sure this time. You have any clubs you wanna check out the booths for?
(Sorry for the short one im never good at taking lead)

You don't need a dream or even a tomorrow Just live
Yumi was quick to notice Ryuusei, not even allowing the boy to stop the movement of his feet. Instead, she came towards him and started to walk besides him. At a slow pace, they both walked without a destination has the conversation regained traction. I sometimes forget that the chat is a thing - Ryuusei replied, walking right next to Yumi and with both hands on his hoodie's pockets - I barely use it, usually has too many movement for me to feel confortable, he justified. The question, however, remained: where should the newly made friends head after their gym session? Hmm, Ryuusei voiced as he thought of a reply to Yumi's question. It didn't take too long to realize the most rational place for them to visit. Listening to his stomach instead of paying attention to his brain, the answer became clear. We should go eat something. Want to get some ice-cream? Not exactly the best post-workout food but... I'm kinda in the mood for it, he finished. There were loads of food tents at the Festival by what the panflets had written on them, so surely they would have some sweet ice-cream that, for some reason, Ryuu was craving. If Yumi agreed with the place Ryuusei chose, they would both walk there at a steady pace. In order for the short trip not to be made in silence, Ryuu's brain was working hard on coming up with some topic of conversation. This is hard... he thought, not sure about what the hell to say: afterall, he avoided being alone with someone he barely knew for some reason. Asking something generic like "So, liking Yuuei so far?" or "Why do you want to be a Hero?" wasn't something Ryuu was willing to do: not only because it was boring, but because it meant probably having to reply to the same questions. However, this process of thought eliminated many topics of conversation that would be available. What then...? She seems super nice so far... Oh!, an idea popped on his mind. Yumi was someone that was giving a relaxed vibe, something that was resonating well with a Ryuusei that was tired of playing Hero, of dealing with his mental problems or with the absence of his sister; a Ryuusei that just wanted to be a teenager. He was even managing to be less deatached than normal - even if his mature and icey voice wasn't a good indicator of it - and laughing or smiling from time to time. It was then only normal for Ryuusei to at least try to get to know more about her. So, what do you do in your free time? he asked. A simple and genuine question, even if coming out of nowhere. A question that, in Ryuu's mind, would be good not only to get to know the girl better but to also keep the chill vibe after an intense gym session. Notes: No problem!!!Words: 489.Tags: Yumi Tasukai

"I don't so much forget it's a thing more...I just can't keep up." She snickered a little at herself, feeling a little bad that she couldn't keep up like that but just shaking her head about it all the same. It was just a chat and she didn't need to keep up with it by any means but a lot of the time she definitely felt like she was left out of the loop on some things. Ah well. "I mean it's a fun place by the looks of things but between my books and my hobbies and...that. The pace of it when it gets going, it's just never gonna be something I can handle while still keeping a hand on my own things." She casually shrugged it off all the same and kept moving, though she was glad that for, whatever reason, she wasn't gonna be the only one out of the UA chat loop.
At the prospect of ice cream she was definitely eager. Yeah not the most healthy, might lead to cramps somehow Yumi had no idea how that stuff worked, but she was fairly sure she'd be okay and with the weather getting warmer and how hot she felt after exercising- "Yeah, it definitely sounds like a nice treat, so why not?"
She was a little short on conversation topics too. Usually people couldn't get her to shut up but Yumi did struggle when she was trying to make a new connection like this, not wanting to slip up and say the wrong thing or the like. Still they seemed to do the job for her and came up with something that could promote a conversation easily enough. Knowing eachother outside of just what they were as students would be good, and she'd start talking even as they likely reached a stall selling ice cream, getting out her wallet ready to pay for their choices.
"Oh er, well let's ignore any like, quirk stuff, any training...I kinda like to just try and keep up with the season's anime I guess?" She lightly scratched her cheek with a soft smile. "It dosn't always feel very er...fruitful as a hobby I guess, but it's kinda the luck of the draw each season I guess." She shrugged but had a warm smile on her, definitely not regretting her choice of hobby in any way, taking a large double-cone mr.whippy ice cream with sprinkles and a flake from the stall. "How about yourself? Any hobbies?"

You don't need a dream or even a tomorrow Just live
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one then, he replied to Yumi when she shared that, just like Ryuusei, she wasn't one to pay that much attention to the constant messaging that went on the Yuuei Chat application. The girl also agreed to go get ice-cream, walking along with Ryuusei when the 1-A student started to go in the direction of where the ice-cream stand was supposed to be. It was after they arrived at the stall that Yumi would reply to Ryuu's question about her hobbies. Ryuusei had ordered a chocolate & cocunut cup, paying for it with his own cash as he expected Yumi to want to pay for her own. As they started eating the refreshing sweet desert, Yumi told Ryuusei's that her favorite hobby was watching anime. It appeared like she enjoyed the surprise that each season could bring. I like watching anime too, but I like reading manga more, especially the classics - he replied as he put a spoon-full of ice-cream in his mouth - But I read all kinds of books, that's probably what I spend most of my time with. That and videogames, I like playing videogames too much.It was a nice change of pace, talking about regular things like anime and videogames, eating ice-cream and talking about their hobbies. Ryuusei was enjoying that. It helped keep harmful thoughts out of his head. And so they continued eating the ice-cream like they had no other worries in the world. A new friendship had been made.
