Yumi had been re-elected class president relatively a few weeks ago, and after the mental torment she'd put herslef through after all the doubt and paranoia the semper fi event had caused about herself, she felt she was gonna be better this time. She had no idea how, but Alex had always left the impression that despite the fact even he was sure she'd be re-elected, she wasn't a good class president in the slightest. Her body had felt stiff for a brief moment when it set in that she had been re-elected by her class...but no. This was the new Yumi. She wasn't letting that get to her this time, and she was gonna make an effort.
One such was she was going to is facing the first task ahead of her as class president seriously. As an opening aspect of the sports festival, while attendance was not compulsory, the class presidents had each been asked to deliver a speech. The theme of the speech was unclear, but generally they wanted the students to be motivated for the events to come and the like. Yumi wasn't sure how good she was as a motivatory force, but she was sure as hell gonna try...in fact she may have been trying too much. She'd even read a short book on the topic of writing such speeches, which ultimately had de-motivated her and put her to sleep more than it hyped her up, ironically.
Come the day of the festival, as per Miss Junko's likely request she'd worn her uniform well. Her blazer done up tight around herself, her skirt a normal length, her tie and shirt done up properly as they should be, and heck she'd even pulled some of her bangs back to look presentable...that was a moment she realized she was maybe doing this wrong. She was thinking way too much on doing it right that she hadn't thought about doing it 'well'. This was a speech that was meant to motivate her classmates and the school...
Walking up onto the stage when her name was called, Yumi had her small notepad she'd written her notes on, glancing down to it, then to the mic, and finally what few, if any students and adults had decided to attend the opening ceremony. A slow breath coursed through her and her eyes drifted back to the notes. Planned words, all meant to perfectly bring out something in her fellow classmates and appease to the teachers and the viewing adults alike.
That wasn't right.
Another breath, quicker, through the nose, and out through the mouth, Yumi lifted her hand to her side, and with a blue spark the notepad ignited. The flames tickled her fingers for a second before she tossed the notepad aside, smiled brightly, and picked the microphone off the stand, starting to undo her stuffy blazer, and hooking a finger into her straight ass tie, tugging it loose with a bit of vigor, a pep to her tone and a brightness in her eyes she may not have even had at the beginning of the year.
"Hey UA you doing okay?~" She smirked brightly and stopped pacing the stage once her blazer was hanging loose and her tie was similarly. "A bit of a cliche opener I know but I literally just burned my notes, so I think ya can forgive a girl this once yeah?" She grinned nice and wide, hoping her new idea of approach was getting the attention of her students, and just generally putting more of herself out there rather than some prim and proper ideal of her. Junko was probably standing off stage right now completely mortified, especially as Yumi abandoned her jacket entirely and tossed it on the floor of the stage, pulling her shirt out of her skirt and fully untucking it in a haphazard fashion.
"Now lets get some things right. Its been a terrible year." Putting the mic back in the stand, despite her words, Yumi remained strong and confident as she spoke, and most importantly she smiled. "We've learned a lot. We've become better on our path to become heroes. We've all hopefully learned in some way or another, THIS is for us. I mean I never even wanted to be a hero when I first came here, I've told so many people now it's hardly a secret, and heck I'm sure a lot of you have learned what it means to be a hero, and how much you wanna do it in the future, but despite the friends, despite how we've grown, it. Has. Been. SHIIIIIIIT!"
She burst out giggling into the mic as she just chimed out a curse to any of the staff attending the opening ceremony, but getting her head back she grinned as she rose back to the mic. "None of it's a secret! We were drugged! Our hospitals were attacked, and some of us lost loved ones thanks to a brute who drinks battery acid! We were assaulted and abused at an event supposed to get us engaged with the military, but ya know what we all did!? Some of us were bitter, a lot of us were hurt, ALL of us were pissed on some level, but here we are, still standing! Still on the path to becoming heroes! The world keeps trying to throw a tragic origin story at each and every one of us and we grit our teeth and face it like a hero should! We power through it with a smile on our face!"
Sparks were starting to come off of Yumi as she got herself excited. For all she knew this could be the worst speech ever, but she was getting herself hyped and that was good enough. "Now! To my class! 1 C! A class I am so proud to be apart of! Those of you attending outside of UA may not know it, but our class has unnofficially been labeled, by ourselves and others, the delinquent squad. We got some good apples, we got some bad ones, but that's are name. And ya know what!? That's fine!" She held a grin through it all, picking the mic off the stand again now and speaking into it with both hands.
"Maybe we are the delinquents! Maybe some of us are and some us aren't, Darren.~" She smirked cheekily at the crowd, knowing anyone in her class would get the joke even if Darren wasn't present, and if he was, she felt he'd take it in good humor given the vibe of her speech. "Delinquents or not, we're heroes all the same, and ya know what comes from that label? Its telling us no one really knows what to expect from us, and now of all times is the time to show them. Welcome to the sports festival folkes! Its time to show what your made of, and to see what the heroes of tommorrow have got, so to my beautiful, amazing, diverse, energetic, ENTHRALLING class of 1 C, I have one thing to ask of you!"
Tossing the mic high into the air, Yumi pumped her arms into her side, pushing her quirk out in full, the whole stage filled with a brilliant blue sparking light, the mic falling into a burning blue hand as Yumi stood before the crowd in her power suit, her hair flowing in it's full brilliance behind her like live wires flicking up and down in the air. She brought the mic to her lips, and pointed to the crowd. "WELCOME TO THE SPORTS FESTIVAL! SHOW US WHAT THE HELL YOU'VE GOT!"
(anyone who'd like to join can just react, or if you like you can timeskip to after the speeches and meet up with yumi? Up to you guys i mostly did this for fun but i'd love to interact with people after!~)
