Listening to Yumi's words, Sean wished that he could create water in addition to manipulating it. Not that he was not satisfied with his own quirk, but having that extra option would have been nice in rescue or combat situations. "Unfortunately, no. I can manipulate water, but sadly, I can't create water. Not from nothing, anyway. The best I can do without any water on me is gathering water molecules from the air, but even then, it's not something I can just do instantaneously. Still trying to work on that, to be honest. Kind of a bummer, I know, but I suppose that's just the kind of quirk I was born with." Sean supposed that being able to create water in addition to manipulating it would be pretty unfair.
Of course Sean was gonna be screwed if he ever found himself in a situation where there was no water around for him to manipulate. "Yeah, that is something I'm trying to work on. I'm not always gonna be around water, and I'm not always gonna have water bottles on me." Thankfully, the second issue was not as big of a problem now thanks to the awesome utility belt made for him by an equally awesome friend of his in Support Studies. "A navel based hero does sound like a great idea, though. Sounds perfect for a water lover like me! Saving drowning victims from a sinking ship, stopping drugs from being smuggled into the country on boats, and taking down water-based villains. So many possibilities! Though I do need to be prepared for the possibility of being needed away from the water."
Sean was both surprised and excited to hear that Yumi was going to be in the obstacle course as well. He couldn't wait to see what she could do. Speaking of, Yumi revealed that she could actually fly! "Oh sweet! That's pretty awesome, Yumi!" Sean then wondered if he could create water wings and fly as well. Or maybe get on a small boat and manipulate the water underneath and lift it up to literally sail in the skies. Probably not, as that would require a lot of strength and stamina that the boy most likely did not have enough of. Oh well, at least the thought was nice. "I'm guessing, or at least hoping, that there will be some water-based obstacles. It will make things easier on me if there is, but it's fine if there isn't any. I do like a challenge!"
Speaking of challenges, Sean wondered what he could do with his quirk to make a spar with Yumi more fair and less of a shockfest for him. He did read somewhere that pure water was actually a poor conductor of electricity, and it was only when there were things in the water (as was the case with saltwater) that made it conductive. Since Sean's quirk only affected water and nothing else, he should be able to purify any water he controls and remove anything inside it. At least in theory, anyway. However, the boy had yet to test out that theory. Maybe he would get to do that when he went up against Yumi. It would be very informative, so there was nothing to lose by trying.
"Railgun sniper shot. Now that sounds badass!" Listening to Yumi talk about what she was and wasn't good at, the two really were similar when it came to range. "It's fine. We're all good and bad at certain aspects. Though if you want some help with melee, I'd be more than happy to assist you there. I used to be terrible there as well. Karate, or really any kind of martial arts, can help patch that problem. Or I suppose staying hidden and not getting hit ever works too." Sean chuckled a bit.
More talk of training and sparring could come later, though. Sean was hungry, and he was eager to get something to eat with Yumi. Sean did not really know where to go to eat. In all honesty, he did not have much of a preference. Anywhere was fine as long as he and Yumi could chat and hang out some more. "We can go to the cafeteria if you're really hungry and would rather eat now. Or if you don't mind waiting a bit, we could go to a nearby restaurant. I'm good with wherever. What are you in the mood for?" Perhaps the cafeteria would be fine, as it was closer than anywhere else Sean could think of going, and if Yumi was really hungry, she would not have to wait long. But then again, maybe going out somewhere to eat could be fun. Ultimately, Sean just wanted to make sure Yumi would have a good time. Location was nowhere near as important in comparison.

Yumi pouted a little at the news that Sean couldn’t control his quirk to the extent of pulling water out of the air or some plants and the like, but it was definitely understandable. Forcing enough moisture together to make a usable amount of water was probably incredibly difficult even when taking into account the fact someone might have a quirk built towards it. She simply offered a smile of encouragement and pumped her arms about her chest infront of her as she briefly hopped on her toes. “I’m sure you’ll get it down eventually! When I first came here all I could do was produce electricity wildly, and even now I need a costume to help me control my output, BUT, I’m definitely getting better! Just the other day I was training with my classmate Darren using this new trick? I can make positive and negative charges now to accelerate me between points! I never woulda imagined being able to do something like that when I first joined so I’m sure you’ll get it down before ya know it!~”
She definitely hoped her energy about this was more infectious then detrimental, but ya could never really tell when ya blathered on as much as she did.
Yumi chuckled a little and nodded along. “Yeah while your at school they’re definitely gonna be providing water for you but ya always gotta be prepared to be sure. I mean, ya never know? Some day you may be trying to put out a fire, get a little ahead of yourself and before you know it you’re out of water in the middle of a burning building-“ As daunting as that sounded she quickly bit her lip and tried to correct the ship a bit. “But er…I’m sure you’ll always think ahead before that happens.”
The talk about him being hyped to be an aquatic hero though had her pumped too, and someone literally able to control the battlefield out on the seas was bound to be an amazing hero. “Ya know heroes who work in niche roles like that definitely never get enough credit, but ya know, you’d definitely never be out of work with a quirk like that. Hey could be worse anyway. You could be a sewer based here.~ Heroically unblocking clogged sewer lines and catching hiding criminals down with the teenage mutant ninja turtles!~”
She was glad to know she at least knew one other person who’d definitely be sharing the same event with her, though in truth she had no idea what to expect, but she definitely felt there had to be at least some way they’d limit people who could make it through a little too easily, though as Sean asked for water obstacles Yumi was the opposite. “Oof. I hope not. Not exactly much of a swimmer. Was kinda hard to find a place that would teach me as a kid given, ya know, I’m a walking toaster ready to be dipped in the world’s biggest bath, if ya catch my drift.” She really hoped he caught on, she didn’t want to spell out the idea of her frying every other kiddie in the kiddie pool. “I mean I’ve been making efforts to learn but I’m in no way perfect so…ground based obstacles! WOOO!~” She snickered and giggled as she threw her arms up, pretending to be ecstatic about no water events.
Yumi wasn’t oblivious to the conductivity of water either. She had to do a lot of research for her quirk afterall, but sometimes it felt good to gloss over her research for a fun tease or a joke. A lecture on ‘that’s not how electricity works’ was a bit of a mood killer after an admittedly funny or at the very least witty joke from one of her friends, or heck even herself.
“Hahahah, it’s just a dream of mine from one of the anime I used to watch. Likely never gonna be able to pull it off since there are so many factors involved but…hey, ya never know right?” She shrugged with a warm smile about to rest her hands in her pockets before recalling her power suit didn’t have any and awkwardly sliding them to just rest on her hips. “Really Melee is definitely my weakpoint though, I definitely need t-!” She stopped as she realized a super awesome idea and squeed as she flailed her arm. “RAILGUN PILE DRIVER! I-I could have like an arm attatchment with a one of those nail stake pile driver things or whatever they’re called!” She was trying to refer to the weapons that shot out a stake super fast and strong then retracted it. “And I could power it by railgun energy! Aaaah I gotta send that idea to my pen pal she makes my suit and gadget designs!” Odds where that could never work and was WAY too deadly for a hero to be toting about willy nilly but hot damn that idea struck her and she was hyped to at least see a blueprint before she gave up on it entirely.
She’d cam down pretty quickly, but when inspiration strikes, it strikes.
Sean’s inner monologue was right though they could talk more later. After firing off so many bolts, Yumi was absolutely starving as she skipped over to the bleachers to get her clothes, hopping into them while still wearing her powersuit underneath for now. “I don’t mind the wait. Cafeteria food’s bound to suck anyway. No way they can make so much for all the people here for the festival and still keep even the grool level quality huh?” Of course the UA food wasn’t so bad, it was just an easy, cliché joke to make. “But yeah sure, resteraunt sounds good…I’m feelin like a burger. You?” She tipped her head, careful to hear what he wanted before going too gung ho and dragging him along with her own desires. She knew she could get like that sometimes when she was hungry and excited.

Sean smiled at Yumi's words of encouragement. "Thank you!" Listening to Yumi talk about how she had improved her quirk and could do new and impressive things with it like accelerating between two charged points, Sean began to think about how much his own quirk had improved. He could control more water now than back when he first arrived at UA. His range had extended too. He was better at shaping his water and got more creative with it as well. Before, he had trouble with anything that was not basic and simple in design. Now, he could make things like tridents, armor, and even an aquatic clone of a certain isopod-like creature.
"That's pretty awesome, Yumi! Sadly, my quirk isn't suited for improving my speed unless it's something like swimming faster. Still, at least I got offense and defense covered!" Sean began to entertain himself with the idea of making a car or bike made entirely out of water. Nah, that would probably be way too complex for the boy to handle. Still, it was fun to think about. And who knows, maybe with enough concentration, training, and power, the impossible will not be so farfetched after all.
Hearing Yumi mention being out of water in a burning building reminded Sean of that burning tent back in that circus months ago. Despite doing everything he could to help the poor people trapped inside escape safely, Sean did end up not having nearly as much water as he had hoped. Thankfully, Sean had learned much from that experience. Should something similar ever happen, the boy would be better prepared. And then Yumi brightened up the mood by joking about Sean assisting the teenage mutant ninja turtles down in the sewers. The boy instantly chuckled. "Oh hell yeah! That would be awesome! Who knows, if I do well enough of a job, I might be made into an honorary ninja turtle! That would be pretty sweet!"
Sean was not surprised to hear that Yumi was not too eager about water obstacles in the obstacle course. In addition to not being much of a swimmer, Yumi being in water with other people was just as bad of an idea as putting a toaster in a bath. Even Sean knew how bad an idea that was. "Yeah. In that case, I hope you get no water obstacles while I get them all. I doubt that it'll be that straightforward, though." The boy knew that it was extremely unlikely for the obstacle course to feature many of the things Sean was great at handling. Wouldn't exactly be an obstacle then, now would it?
"Railgun pile driver?" Just the name alone sounded badass to Sean. Like, holy crap! "That sounds awesome! I know you'll find a way to make it work, and when you do, it's gonna be amazing!" Sean had his own moves that he came up with, and even gave names for, such as the Oceanic Overdrive, Torrential Trident, Water Wall, Cascade Crasher, and many others. Were they necessary? Not really. Were they awesome? Hell yeah!
When it came to deciding what to have for lunch, Yumi suggested getting a burger at a restaurant. "Sure! Sounds good to me! I'm ready to go whenever you are!" Sean looked forward to having a nice lunch with Yumi. It was gonna be fun! And then there would be the sparring match that came after. That would be fun too!

“Oh yeah not everyone’s is, and heck I didn’t even think mine could be till I started looking into it, but ya never know! I mean.” She gestured loosely about as she tried to get the words in her head. She never had been good at imagining things for her own quirk without heavy research since she physically felt her own limitations, but for others, she had so much popular culture to pull from she could make a good metric fucktonne of ideas. “You could er…throw yourself in a ball of water at high speads, or create a long stream of water to propel yourself through, or erm…” Okay there weren’t many easy ways to go fast when you just manipulated water. “Oh I’m sure there’s a third one somewhere, but the bottom line is ya never know. If going fast is something you want from your quirk, aim for it. If not, then focus on what it is you’re looking for. Yeah?~” She smiled brightly, giving him a big thumbs up in the hopes some encouragement would help promote his growth going forward.
Snickering with him as her teenage mutant ninja turtle joke went over well, she rolled her eyes at her own joke, idly commenting somewhat to herself as she whispered under her breath. “Ya know these days there probably are a few turtle mutations out there to boot…maybe one with a rat uncle. Who knows.” She smirked a little at her own cheeky comment, hoping not to be rude to anyone who actually had such quirks and rubbing the back of her neck as she thought on it. “And yeah, who knows right? I mean they take on just some girl in a yellow jumpsuit, who knows what they’ll do for someone who can actually be useful in a fight.” She stuck out her tongue with the second cheeky comment, giggling away a little at herself and her weird sense of humor.
To the topic of her facing water obstacles though, she winced a little and ruffled her fringe about. “Yeah here’s hoping, but ya never know right? Like, to be clear, I CAN swim, and its safe for other people now that I can control my quirk…buuuuut ya also don’t wanna risk other people’s safety like that if ya can help it, ya know?” She gave a little shrug and then added with a lightly cheeky smirk. “Plus, less chance of me losing if I’m not put up against something I’m terrible at. Never hurts my odds ya know?” She chuckled and shook her head. Aaah she felt she should stop making jokes but surely they weren’t all so bad right? “Oh hell yeah!” She chimed in back on the pile driver, giggling a little as she pictured it. “Just imagine this badass metal spike attatched to my arm in some sort of mechanism. Line up the shot and KAPOW! Wall gone! Odds are it’s impractical as hell, I mean, imagine the feedback on that thing, but it definitely feels cool to say don’t you think?~” She had the brightest look on her face, giggling away at the idea. “I don’t often get awesome new ideas for my quirk without my pen pal’s help, but I’m sure Valda’s gonna love this! Whether we can use it or not!~”
She was glad the idea of the resteraunt wasn’t so bad, but chimed in quickly. “Alrighty then, fair warning though I’ve got a hell of an appetite after I’ve been using my quirk, so if I suddenly get like, half as attractive once you see me eating, you know to expect it now.” She gave a wink as she headed off school campus with Sean. Some idle chatter likely made along the way but before long the two of them were sitting in a nice 80s style resteraunt that served some nice American style burgers. As good as traditional Japanese Ramen places could be, Yumi’s mother helped her grow up on the more meaty and greasy items found in American styled dining experiences, so it was her first bet when finding a place to eat. She’d order her food with Sean and slide into a booth with him, eager to enjoy the food she was waiting on.
(Up to you if we sit and eat or timeskip to them going back and sparring, left it open for either option)
