It was finally over. The hellish nightmare that was Semper Fi had come to a close. Chise went over to rest on one of the vacant benches, trying to wrap her head around what just happened. First, she and several others were taken to an underground bunker where they had to disarm bombs and make their way through a dimly lit labyrinth. It didn't help that couldn't diffuse the bomb properly and ended up covered in colored corn starch. It was embarrassing enough that she couldn't use her quirk but she made a fool of herself in front of her good friend Ericka. Hopefully the blonde didn't think badly about her. Once the team cleared the maze, they were led to a pitch black chamber filled with water which they had to traverse to make it through to the other side. The wetsuit provided was too tight on her, curse her stupid anatomy, and it was hard to navigate without a light of some sort. Thankfully, they stuck together and with the help of a certain student's light source, were able to make it out of the water chamber with minimal damage. The last portion of the trial involved yet another maze, but filled with enemy drones instead of bombs. Chise ended up with some scratches to her arms and a bit to her stomach, but overall, her limited martial arts skills helped her get through it. Thankfully, no one was critically hurt, they all made it out with minimal damage...to think that the military personnel in charge would end up risking this only to have his life taken away...it was a bit devastating to see. Why do all this only to die once it was finished? It made no sense at all. Was he messed up in the head? Her question would be left unanswered as she stared blankly at the floor beneath her. There we supposed to be no causalities during this test...yet more than one person died. A shame really.
It seemed this test was set up to not only test their skills as quirkers…but maybe even to dwindle them down one by one, starting with the weakest. Sure, Chise may have needed some help, scratch that, quite a bit of help throughout the test, but she wanted to prove that even someone like her, someone who was seen as unfit to be a hero, could prevail in the end. Chise stared at her scratched up hands and arms, the result of miscalculated movements and mistakes. Thankfully they weren't fatal, but the sting was still present. Chise sighed as she looked at the cute and spots where bruises would surly form, give it a few hours and they would most likely pop up on her pale as white skin. Chise shook her head, right now she should think of happier thoughts lest she find herself in a slump. She hoped Haruto was alright...Haruto...Haru. Chise gasped and stared at the wall with wide eyes. Was Haruto alright? They spoke very little before going into their respective tests...she had to make sure he was alright. They were told to wait in a specific meeting spot once this was all over, this went for anyone participating in the Semper Fi tests. Chise, although was uncertain if she'd even see Haruto there with the amount of people participating. The violet eyed girl made a quick minded decision to meet Haruto at his training site: Venus Boarding School. Chise stood up abruptly and headed toward the meeting area, hoping to the gods above that Haruto was alright. He had to be alright...she couldn't loose him like this.

Regret sank into Haruto's stomach like a pit. He had failed, he was useless... The imagined eyes of that man bore through him, laying clear all his insecurities. He didn't even know that doctor's name, but... As long as he lived, he would never forget those eyes. Those despairing eyes, begging Haruto to save him- Only to glaze over with the finality of death. The blood he had coughed up was still on Haruto's shirt, the boy never having had the chance to change.
They praised him as a hero, saying that they'd all have been dead without him. But that wasn't true. He, he hadn't been able to do anything at all! He wanted to tell them, but his mouth wouldn't move. Nothing would. He wanted to vomit, but his stomach had long since been emptied. It may have been over, but it didn't feel that way. Was it that it had ended too easily, or was it something else?
Somebody else brought Haruto his bag- He didn't know who it was, or how they knew the bag was his. He didn't want to see them, either. Didn't want to be told how well he had done, how many people he had saved. They thought they were comforting him, but... Why! Why hadn't he been able to do anything!? He... It wasn't him who saved anyone. It may have been his quirk, but it was Rin who used it, not him! The only thing he'd done.... Was watch a man die in front of him, while he did nothing.
Out of the corner of his eye, however, something caught Haruto's eye. His bag had never been closed, and it's contents were exposed- Including a simple bento box. That box... "Chise..." Haruto would whisper. That was right, it was the lunch Chise had made for him, before they went their separate ways. Wait, Chise. A gleam appeared in the otherwise dulled eyes. A gleam of fear.
The boy made the most rushed move he had made since being rescued from the basement of the Venus Boarding School. He took out his phone, which had been turned off since the start of the presentation. His heart felt like it would stop in his chest as he watched it turn back on. Time felt slow, too slow. Was Chise okay!? If anything... If she had... He couldn't even bear to think about it. And seeing no notification since then, his heart felt like it might stop. With trembling fingers, he typed, and prayed.
Chise
Please
Are you okay
It was the only thing he could think to say.

How far was it? Chise felt as if she had been running in circles trying to find where the school was. It couldn't be that far away, she had seen Haruto not too long before now, so why did it feel like she couldn't reach him no matter how hard she tried? Everything was supposed to be contained to the military base, correct? So the school should be close by then, right? Chise stopped running and panted to catch her breath, resting her hands on her knees to try and calm herself down. She knew she couldn't rest until she met up with Haruto once more, but the physical and mental strain she put on her body was getting dangerously high. The poofy haired girl gasped as she felt a buzz from her phone in her pocket, quickly pulling it out to see who it was. Chise covered her mouth with her hand as she read the few words on the screen, afraid she was going o cry just from reading a few short messages sent by Haruto.
Chise's fingers trembled as she tried unlocking her phone, trying to get to the messages as soon as she could. "H-Haruto..." she choked out, watching as a few tears streamed down her cheeks, hitting the LED screen on her phone, reflecting bits of the messages in the blobs of her tears. She managed to find the strength to type something out before turning her messages off. She stared at her home screen for a moment, trying to think of the best course of action. It was hard to think when all that was staring back up at her was a picture of her and Haruto. For a brief moment, her mind went blank, any thoughts she had previously covered in white. She wanted to just collapse then and there, exhaustion kicking in, her gauges empty...but she had to find Haruto. That's why she felt this way. Chise haphazardly tried punching the name of the school into her GPS to see if anything would pop up. "Please...please be there," she softly said, watching the small circle on her screen spin as it thought of the location in question.
It seemed like an eternity but a result popped up, not too far from her current location. Chise stared at the phone for a second longer before she began running once more, following the directions her phone had given her, calling out Haruto's name as if her life depended on it. This couldn't be the end. She had to find him if it was the last thing she did.
Yes
I'm coming for you
Please be alright

His phone beeped. Three lines of text on the screen. Eight words to keep Haruto sane. She was coming. She was alright. Suddenly he coughed- Red blood and black blood. He had pushed himself too far inside that death chamber, and still he could feel the repercussions. But even the pain in his chest could not compare with that in his heart. The pain of failure. The memory of the cold, dead eyes of those he had failed to save. He needed to see Chise, to know she was safe. And yet, at the same time, he did not want her to see him. To see this useless failure, who could not save even a single person by himself. He wiped the blood from his face and held the blanket tighter.
It was a painful wait. Not knowing how far away Chise was, seconds felt like minutes, minutes felt like hours. He wanted to see her. He didn't want to see her. He was useless. She was safe. He tried to focus on the positives, but his head always returned to the same place. Those eyes. The blood. His failure. His empty stomach churned again.
Just as the boy felt near insane, he heard it. A voice in the distance, one he knew so well. "Chi... Se." The name escaped his lips. His whole body shaking, the boy rose to his feet. Stumbling forward, "Chise," he would say, slightly stronger this time. Another step. "Chise!"
At last the two faced each other. For just an instant, Haruto felt as though the horrors of the night... Were all in the past. "Chise, I... I... I'm so glad, that... You're okay..." Haruto nearly fell to his knees, then and there. But if he did, he was sure he wouldn't be able to get back up. "I'm... So, so... glad." Haruto cried, the tears pouring down his face. From the blood on his shirt, it could be told that the boy had, had a rough night, to say the least.

Lungs heaving, legs burning, heart racing, Chise felt like her body could give out at any moment but she had to find Haruto, not admit defeat that easily. According to the GPS, she was really close to the school, just make this next left and it should be right there. Chise panted as she ran, soon turning the corner and seeing the school in the near distance. Thank the gods for GPS. "Haruto!" Chise called out, running towards the school, hoping that the closer she gets, the easier to see Haruto will be. She was so close, just one last push and she would be there! Chise's eyes widened as she saw someone coming towards her...was that? Seeing that figure made Chise run harder, her eyes filling with tears as she heard a familiar face call out her name.
Three steps, two steps, one step, and Chise crashed into Haruto, clinging to him and stopping herself from knocking both of them over. Feeling the other's warmth against her caused her tears to finally spill. It was a relief to see that he was alright and was unharmed for the most part. She listened as Haruto said how glad he was knowing that she was alright. "Of course I'm alright, I'm overjoyed that you're standing here before me. Who knows what could have happened!" Chise said, pulling away slightly to look up at Haruto, a soft chuckle leaving her lips as tears streamed down her rosy cheeks. Chise's smile turned to a frown once she felt Haruto's weight almost give out, gently helping him to the ground. She cupped his cheeks in her hands, seeing him let his emotions go and start to cry, tears also streaming down his face. Chise pressed herself closer and gently kissed his forehead before resting her forehead against Haruto's own. "I-It's alright...I'm here for you. Let it all out, it's ok to cry," Chise promised Haruto, wanting him to know that she was there for him always.

Chise's voice was like a light at the end of a tunnel. It was hope, hope that even after all of this, that things could turn out to be all right. She was safe. Chise was safe. As long as Chise was safe, Haruto felt like he could pull through, no matter what happened. No matter... How many people he failed to save. However, as the girl moved to help him, Haruto would unexpectedly push her away. The last of his strength giving out, the boy fell to his knees. "Don't... Don't touch me.... I'm... So, dirty..."
He wasn't exactly talking about the physical filth on his body- Although there was plenty of that. Sweat and tears, mucus and blood. All that was missing was the black blood formed by his quirk, which had long since dissipated as though it was never there, and taken the toxin in the room with it. The blood didn't belong to Haruto, of course- Though at a glance, it may appear to be so. However, the truth was, the boy simply felt as though these hands of his, which could not save anyone, were unworthy of touching Chise. The dead man's eyes still burned in Haruto's memory- Judging him. These hands had touched his dead body so recently- He could not bear to stain Chise with them.

As she tried getting closer to her beloved, she felt his hands pushing her away, confusing the poor girl. Why was he pushing her away? Was he angry at her for not coming to him sooner? Was it because she worried him so much? It seemed the reason for his distancing was because he claimed he was dirty. Chise blinked a few tears from her eyes before looking at Haruto, examining his body and clothing. Sure, he did have some stains and tears in his clothing, but nothing that couldn't be fixed and cleaned. "Sure, you may be, b-but I am too. We'll go wash up and try to calm down and recoup after everything that's happened," Chise said, moving closer to Haruto even if he felt he shouldn't.
Chise carefully reached her hand up and ran her fingers gently through Haruto's hair letting him get a clear look at how disheveled Chise was without his bangs hanging in his face. "Please...don't push me away. I don't care if you're dirty, just please...let me be able to feel you just to clear my own paranoia," she said in a calm voice, moving her hands to cup his cheeks, releasing a pent up breath she didn't know she was holding. Being able to feel Haruto's skin against her own gave her the clarity to know that this was real and that she was here with him. It wasn't just some dream. Her hands reached down to hold Haruto's own, looking at the scratches and blood on his hands. She held both of their hands up and intertwined their fingers, a small smile forming on her once happy face as she turned her gaze from their hands to Haruto's deep brown orbs. "Please, just let me stay like this for a short while with me, that's all I ask right now in this moment," she said, closing her eyes and just feeling Haruto's presence here with her.

"No, no, I, no... I,,," She didn't understand? How could she understand? It wasn't just... His body that was dirty. It was... Everything. But despite his best efforts, the girl insisted on approaching- And the white-haired youth lacked the strength to repel her once more. "Please, no... I... You don't... I..."
It would be a miracle if she understood half of what he said, so incoherent and mumbled were his words. But even so, the girl was not discouraged. "You... Don't? But, no, I..." However, gradually, the boy's meager resistance fell to none, allowing Chise to hold him as she wished. Tears rolled down the boy's cheeks as he finally was able to let out what he had been holding in for so long.
"Ch... Chise, I... I failed. I... I failed. I couldn't. I couldn't, couldn't, save him. I... I couldn't, save anyone. Why, why do I... Why am I... What am I, if I, I can't. Can't save. Anyone... What... What should I do?" Between his sobs, Haruto babbled, more coherent before. Coherent enough that Chise could understand, at least in part, what had happened. Of course, his was only half the story. No one else who was in that room would call him useless. In fact, when asked, many of them would point to him as their savior, among the other students who had been present. But that wasn't how Haruto felt in the slightest. All he knew was that he had tried, and he had failed. And in the end, he had only been able to force Rin to push, even farther than she could handle. The sight of her, hair as white as his own... Proof that his own worthlessness had pushed everything to her shoulders.
But Chise's continued ministrations would prove valuable. The more she held him, the more coherent the boy would sound. "Ch-Chise. You, I'm, so, so... Glad. You're safe." So saying, the boy's eyes would droop. The night had been altogether too long, and tiredness began to override all else.

Her heart hurt seeing Haruto look so defeated like this, broken down because of what was supposed to be strengthening for them. She held back tears every time his voice tried to speak something coherent, his voice broken in that moment with only fragments of words escaping his trembling lips. Hearing him finally break down, Chise couldn't help but pull the white haired boy closer to her, letting him rest his head on her chest so he could listen to her heartbeat. She knew the noise was always comforting to her, perhaps she could be that comfort for Haruto in his time of need. Chise softly calmed him down, gently running her fingers through his hair as he spoke and cried, her shirt now stained with his tears. "It's alright now...let it all out...it's ok to cry," she spoke softly in between Haruto's breaks, listening to him grieve as she stated that he couldn't save anyone. "You did the best you could and that's all that can be asked of you," Chise said, trying to stay strong for the both of them. While this was a difficult emotional moment, she had to be the strong one in this moment, she couldn't let her own emotions take over and revert back to the weak girl she once was.
"You want to save everyone, but that's the risk of becoming a hero, the negative voice speaking in the back of your mind, telling you that you can't save everyone. You do your best and push yourself harder than your body will allow just to protect others, but sometimes even that can't save everyone. It's a terrible feeling knowing that you could have helped someone but something came in the way that prevented you from doing so. It's..." Chise had to pause for a moment to breathe, afraid if she continued she would break down again as well and that couldn't happen, at least not now. "...It's ok to fail...all that matters is...you tried your best to do everything in your power to help those in need. That's all, no one can ask for anything more," Chise said, leaning down and placing soft kissed on Haruto's head as she let him cry as much as he needed to. It seemed exhaustion was overtaking Haruto, his body growing heavier as he slumped closer to the girl, a if his body was becoming that of an immovable rock. Chise looked down and smiled to him, continuing to comfort him and gently running her fingers through his hair. "I'm glad you're safe too...Haruto," Chise said, feeling her own tears breach and travel down her cheeks. She would let him sleep for as long as he needed, she would stay with him for as long as was necessary. Chise quietly pulled her phone back out and messaged anyone, teachers, students, etc. that they were here and in need of help. Closing her phone, Chise looked down at Haruto once more and smiled, "Everything's going to be alright now," she spoke softly before closing her own eyes.
